Its a neighbor of mine I help them take care of their computer all the time.

The problem is the screen freezing randomly, it might be in 3 min might be 5 or 10 or 25, it does it after it has been turned off for awhile or all night or when you have been on it for awhile or quite awhile. Point being its not heating up cause it does it when it has been off for hours them 3 or 4 min after it is turned on or sometime it might be 2 hours after you turn it on. I had a thread a couple of weeks ago about this same computer I came to the conclusion that it was the Powersupply, so I put in a brand new 400W powersupply and it ran great (no freeze ups for a few days then all of a sudden it started in again).

The mouse freezes so they can't do anything but shut it down at the tower so I gave them another usb mouse tonight and told them when it freezes to unplug there mouse and put the new usb mouse in and see it it works right away then it would be the mouse. I have great doubts about it being that but I am at witts end. I consider myself pretty good at fixing computers hardware and software problems but I am lost. I have no idea. I looked in the divice manager everything is ok, checked the events and nothing happening there. I know the computer is clean of viruses or spyware cause I keep it clean for them monthly.

Spybot
Spyblaster
ie-spyad
script defender
AVG 8.0
Windows defender

also ran malware bytes
everything is clean

Computer is about 7 years old but runs great (except for this problem)
The only thing I haven't done yet is run a memory test, I have that mem test but it is a program I haven't run before and don't no what to do, I have no directions to follow for it or how to read it when it is done.

Could it possible have anything to do graphics card at all, she did say that every once in awhile when it freezes (not all the time but I suppose like every 5 or 6 times the screen goes black. they always turn it off at the tower and then when they restart it is is ok till it happens again. THERE IS NO ERROR MESSAGE. no error message at all.

Can someone help, have any idea's, anything possible to try, at this point anythjing is worth a try. Please help. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: Windows XP SP2- Screen freezing-no pattern- but lots- Can someone help? Pleas

The first thing that comes to mind with older machines is overheating. They can accumulate a lot of dust (even in the cleanest places) and fans can get bogged down. Check all your air intakes and remove dust from the interior. Make sure that all fans are moving (including the one on the graphics card, if present).

While inside, check all your connectiuons and make sure the graphics card is firmly in its slot.

If that doesn't help, try a memory test:

MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)
Memtest86

If you have enough memory sticks, you can test them by removing one at a time and see if the problem disappears.

If you are running Vista and can boot up, go to Start > Search and type:

mdsched.exe

Choose to run a memory diagnostic on next boot. Or, you can boot from the DVD and run it from there.

Hi all,

Have been having some frustrating issues with my system recently. It all started when my system started freezing with strange patterns showing up on the monitor. I thought it must have been my video card and took it back to the computer shop to test it. They agreed the video card was faulty and sent it off for warranty. In the mean time I purchased a new low-end card and the system worked fine for about a week.

I then started to get the same issues again. I returned the system again and was told there was nothing wrong with this card. They spun some crap about the card not being powerful enough to run photoshop (which is where I spend most of my time) and convinced me to upgrade to a higher-end card, which I did.

Unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem and I continued to have problems. I returned the system yet again for a week or so. They tested it (with their HD and fresh install of vista) and said they didnt have any problems.

I picked the system up and used it without problems for around a week or so when the problems started to occur yet again. At the moment the system is freezing, freezing with a strange pattern on the screen (see attached jpgs) (looping audio), restarting, blue-screening (ecache.sys, IRQL not less or equal to, etc). It freezes during vista loading but sometimes makes it to the main OS environment.

I've tried reinstalling vista on a different drive and get exactly the same problems. It freezes and restarts during vista setup so... Read more

Hello,
I reccently downloaded a realtek high def audio driver but after i booted i recieved a blue screen after windows xp screen.
0x0000007f (0x00000000 x4)
I am not sure if the problem is hardware or software. Also, i was wondering if their is a bios command to check my RAM.

A:[SOLVED] Pleas help - Blue screen

The error message is due to hardware deffective it might be with memory, motherboard or CPU processor overheating due to overclocking. But to confirm where the problem.

First uninstall the audio driver and download the upgrade version of it. (If you had installed the upgraded audio driver than suggest you to use the "Roll back" options to use the pervious driver installed.)

2. Go to BIOS settings and run a memory diagnostic tool to find out is there any problem with your memory RAM.

3. Check the tempertaure of the CPU from BIOS Settings or download Hardware Monitor http://www.cpuid.com/download/hwmoni...onitor_116.zip
(HWMonitor is a hardware monitoring program that reads PC systems main health sensors : 1. voltages, 2. temperatures, 3. fans speed. )
Save the log file and post it.

Hi
For the last few weeks, everytime I turn on my computer, about 10 error messages come up. It's the same error message that looks like this:
*If you want to read what the error message says, click the photo and then click the expand button in the bottom right corner to read it*

I would click "close" and the message would keep popping up but then disappear after a while.
My computer has also been acting very slow while on the internet, sometimes it would freeze and I wouldn't be able to click anything. While it freezes, it would make this beeping noise repeatedly until it unfreezes too.

Is my computer infected with a virus? What does the error message mean? How can I solve these problems and what do you think all of this is caused from?

Thanks!

Hello everyone,
First of all, I know that this isn't a BSOD issue but I wasn't sure about where else to post this thread.

Like the title says, my computer screen freezes with mouse movement and numlock / capslock activation until I ctrl+alt+del and then even those stop but the audio (if I was was watching a video when the freeze happened) still plays. So I have to press the power button until the system turns off, wait a little and turn it back on again. In the past week it's happened at least 35 times. I also get graphical glitches when I'm running programs like chrome. These freezes can happen at any time such as when I'm browsing on Chrome, reading messages on my email client, a couple of minutes after coming out of hibernate etc. Over the last couple of days the freezes have been happening more frequently, I've frozen 4 times in the last 2 hours.

I've run Malwarebytes as well as Avira, I've checked the health of the hdd, the ram (memtest for a couple of hours), the temperature (even had a 140mm pointed directly at the cpu and gpu heatsinks). There's no point looking for gpu driver updates because mine is not supported anymore and I have the latest one. Turned all my startup services off apart from Avira and I've also run sfc/scannow and that didn't come up with anything either.

My gut feeling is that the gpu is dying because if I run the amd test in Catalyst Control Centre to check load temperatures the test fails after a couple of seconds even though t... Read more

About a week ago, I bought a brand new Asus CM1630 computer. It hasa dual core Athlon II x2 220 processor, 1Tb HD, and 4Gb RAM. Ran fine until yesterday. I usually shut it down when not using it. But now when I restart, quite often it will just hang up at the Welcome screen. The only way I've found to get it to work is to restart the computer again, sometimes it takes more than 1 restart, and sometimes on the restart it will hang up at the screen where you can hit certain buttons to enter BIOS and SETUP(don't know the name of that screen)

Hope someone can help me out

Hi,

I'm trying (via a macro) to allocate a patten to a cell and also change the color excel uses on the pattern. By default it uses black.

I already have a macro that conditionally changes the background color of the cell. Problem is that when I print out on my cheap paper the colors bleed i.e. the black text bleeds into the yellow background. Therefore I want to use a pattern color to highlight the cells which uses less ink, therefore less color bleed!!

I have a quick workaround- print it draft all the time I want a nicer solution.

Thanks Phil

A:Excel- Macro-Allocate pattern to cell and change the pattern color

Phil, a word of advice. Don't try to program Excel to overcome an inefficiency of other hardware, namely your printer. You're going to be fighting a losing battle.

Easiest solutions?
1) Print in Draft mode
2) Get a new printer

I know it sounds daft, but those are your best bets.

Hi, i'm new to the forum and i need help with my toshiba a205-s4577.

it was working fine for the past year and months that i have used it and then one day it suddenly crashed while i was watching a movie. it displayed random patterns on screen. kinda like part of the image from the video is on the screen then a black strip and random colors. I restarted the unit to safe mode and left it on and browsed the net and downloaded some big files for how many hours and nothing happened.. there are also times when windows is still loading with the windows logo on screen, it crashes. there are also times when the login screen is displayed and it crashes. it just crashes randomly! so i tried to reformat it. i deleted the partitions and created a new one, formatted it then fresh installed windows 7 ( my previous OS is windows 7 by the way) and started installing the basic drivers and after a few hours, it crashed again... thinking that the driver installed might not be compatible, i tried another fresh install of windows (same execution, delete partition, create, install OS) and this time, without installing the drivers, it crashed again after a few hours... sometimes it crashes immediately after turning it on from cold start!

is there someone who can give me an advice on this? is this somehow caused by dust accumulating inside the laptop? or is it already busted?

I put new memory into a friends computer. She has an HP Pavilion 511w. It came with 128 MB and can hold up to 512. I got the right memory because even the company I bought it from says it is right oemworld. I put in 2 sticks of 256. No problems putting it in and the computer recognizes it because it shows 512 now. Here is the problem.

When I started the computer back up everything was fine then an error message came up saying I needed to update the video driver I assumed because of more memory and as far as I no she had never updated it and it is at least 4 years old. I first went to the HP Site and looked under her computer the 511w and it had a driver update there for a Intel Extreme Graphics Driver update 02/2005 version 6.14.10.3943 6.36MB, the one in her computer matched that except for the extreme part so I downloaded it and thought that was it. It worked ok for a while then started freezing up and the monitor would go to a black screen. I got looking and hers was an 810E (I think I remember that?s what it was) anyway I went to the Intel site and found the driver that should have been put in it was for the 810E chip set. I have an extra computer here at home that is also the 511w so I downloaded that driver into mine and everything works fine. Anyway I went to her place and was going to roll back the extreme driver I had put in and then put the one in from Intel. I went into device driver and open the adapter and double clicked on it and went to the driver and clicked ... Read more

Hi gang,

For a while now when I play HitMan Blood Money (right at the begining of the game) all of a sudden this wierd looking colored pattern appears on my screen. The game just quits when it does this but I can hear the sound.

The colors in this woven like pattern showing on the screen are red, green, blue, purple, black, yellow, white. It looks like a piece of fabric.

The other games it does this with is Half- Life2, Far Cry, PainKiller. Now with PainKiller it don't do it until you are into the game a while.

I do shut the internet and all my programs in the tray down when I play any games. Resolution used 1024 x 768.

My video card is a Nvidia 6800 Ultra. I have a AMD Athlon FX-53 with a A8V-Deluxe.

Does anyone know what this is? What can I do to remedy the problem?

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Toshiba laptop Satellite A205 with Vista. DSL connection with outside modem. When turning on computer, often it goes through all channels then as it begins to open the main page a grid comes up, its blinking and it covers the whole screen, I feel like I am looking inside of something. It wont go away, I can't shut computer down normally and the only way is to shut it down with on off .... It also happens if I leave it on and fall asleep at night, it goes into sleep mode.... modem etc. say connected just fine. Hold down the on off button, screen comes up and within a few seconds the grid appears (I would say it looks like a radiator inside) and blinks or jumps and I have nothing again. Turning it off with on off button is the only way to stop it.

Avira and Spybot say I have no threats anywhere. Cleaned cookies and temp files, history etc daily. Worried .

Please does anyone have any suggestions. I am retired with illness and have little money to take it to someone. Computer 3 1/2 years old.

use the filter (on the right) and choose chipset

update the chipset driver 1st, then the display driver (use the filter and choose display), then any others that apply to your system.

if your system is 64bit here is that link http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...ily=1073768663

Dell i7-6500 laptop
Lately when I go away from my laptop for a bit and it goes to sleep, it will often wake up with a fine light coloured zigzag pattern all over it.
I plug into a docking station and the monitor tht is connected to the docking station will also display this.  If I move my mouse around I can see a square moving around the screen.
I have another monitor that plugs in to the HDMI port.  That one comes up fine.  Using that monitor, if I go to the start menu and manually put it to sleep then wake it up by hitting the touchpad, all three monitors (laptop, docking station monitor and HDMI monitor) will come up correctly and I can keep working.
However, the other day I was working remotely, and my laptop went to sleep when I stepped away and I could not get the display to come back properly, because I could not see any menus.  I did a hard shutdown.
Any thoughts on the problem?

I have a HP Pavilion w/Windows XP Media Center Edition. Some months ago my screen started freezing in a little geometric pattern (see attached pic) at any given time for no apparent reason. It does this multiple times a day and I have to reboot using the power button. As far as I know all the programs are still open and running but who knows because I can't see anything?
I contacted HP multiple times to no avail. First they had me test the monitor by hooking my laptop up to it and leaving it on. The monitor worked fine. Then I updated all my drivers and my graphics card driver (NVidia). Then I updated my BIOS. Their last attempt was to have me do a destructive re-format of my hard drive (system recover) to reinstall everything on a clean slate. The screen still freezes.
Can anyone tell me what the problem may be? I am almost to the point of going out and buying a new graphics card just because I can't think of anything else and no one has been able to tell me what it is... Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, I am having a very strange problem with my screen looking scrambled with a test pattern when I turn it on.  It does not boot anymore.
When I hold down the D key to do the display test, it actually flashes white, red, green, blue, and seems to pass the test.  Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?  Anyone ever seen a screen look like this?
Bad screen cable?

A:XPS 9343 screen scrambling with test pattern

Hi JADWARE,
When did the issue start on the system? Could you kindly check with an external monitor?
Turn on the system by holding the "fn" key + power button and it should start the diags on the system. Make a note of any possible beeps that you might possibly hear. The exact # of beeps in a cycle will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on your description, I would suspect a faulty video card and the motherboard needs to be replaced on the system.
If the system is under warranty, then contact us via Twitter - @dellcarespro for faster communication or write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details. If there is no warranty, then we can help with a paid service call if required.

I can usually find solutions to my problems online somewhere, but this problem has stumped me so here I am on bended knee. My computer is freezing randomly: no blue screen or anything, just a total lockup. When it freezes, a pattern of rectangles appears on the screen. To get out of the freeze I have to restart.

I have attached a photo of this freeze phenomenon. The photo shows this pattern at the log-in screen because it froze on this occasion when coming out of stand-by. Usually it just freezes out of the blue when I am working on the computer and have several programs open, such as Internet Explorer, Outlook or Word. I always get this strange pattern on the screen.

On some of the freezes, the event viewer log shows a sequence of similar event ID's usually ending with 32003. Microsoft Tech Net says this is related to the Network Address Translator.

I have also attached a pdf file which shows the Windows event log entries for before and after the freeze. Usually, but not always, the last log entry before the freeze is event ID 32003. I have searched this forum using 32003 as the search term and haven't seen anything related to this problem but I'm hoping somewhere has seen this before.

Summary: whilst watching a video commercial on a trusted corporate website, the screen went black (though still backlit). On restarting, screen came up normal (graphics perfect) until the first Windows XP page (with the green loading bar) when there were green and black vertical strips 5mm wide, the green strips made up of four lines, a little reminiscent of that code pattern in movie Matrix. After the Windows page the green lines turned to blue, and then the screen went black (though still backlit), and the usual user login didn`t appear. Leaving the computer to run, the hard disk was active from time to time, then before long the windows logging-in jingle played as if we had logged in, the screen still black. After that, no response at all.

After problem: Laptop can be started in Safe Mode (from where I write this), there are still faint green lines superimposed. I completed a system restore but this has not fixed the problem.

The last few weeks: A number of weekends ago I attempted to open my mouse for the purpose of silencing the clicks, but on opening the mouse half way and looking inside it made itself apparent that it was not meant to be opened (without breaking the plastic case [mouse is GlanzHS by Sanwa]) On closing and restoring the mouse, I found that initially the left button didn`t seem to work, and then it did, problem solved. But then strangeness began: next time on restarting the computer, nothing responeded to the pointer or the left click on the first ... Read more

Hi Naval, welcome to TSF, I reckon the mouse related issue could be easily diagnosed. Try another one, not USB - there known to be hassle when the system isnt working properly - and we should easily see if the problem is with the pc or the mouse.

with regards the problem with the graphics, i'll leave that to someone with more experience.

Hi there eveyone, I hope someone can shed some light on this issue for me.

Basically, I might have once accidentally dropped my laptop quite hard, ever since it has frequently frozen, with the screen displaying a repeating pattern (see picture). The only way to get out of this is to power off and turn on again. The odd thing is that I can use it normally for prolonged periods with no problem and it'll suddenly happen or sometimes it happens during boot-up. It's most possibly some kind of loose connection but I'm not sure what really. One other thing to note is that when the screen goes funny the computer shows no sign of working (HDD light either has no activity or stays on permanently).

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Neil

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could identify why the following situation is happening on my computer (using Windows XP Home)... When certain combinations of applications are open at the same time, this strange red and white pattern shows up, scattered across parts of the screen in a seemingly random fashion. In some cases, it is so dense that it covers up parts of the screen completely, making it difficult to complete certain tasks (such as changing font or style settings).

This was a mild case, but I wanted to take a photo of it in case anyone has any suggestions for a solution.

Thanks,
Ed

I tend to think that there may be some incompatible hardware on your system because of the random errors that are being generated. Your drivers appear updated and there don't appear to be any known incompatible programs installed.

I've been through hell trying to get my computer to stop freezing. My computer is custom built (three years old) and it never had any freezing problems until about half a year ago. This is what I've done to try and cure the problem.

- Uninstalled IE and replaced it with Mozilla FireFox (this seemed to help a bit because Mozilla isn't using nearly as much memory to run the browser)

- Bought RegCure and regularly use it

- De-fragmented my C: drive

- Uninstalled any unnecessary programs and applications

- Recently updated my video drivers

This is the deal. When idle, my computer never freezes. I can leave it on all night/day, whatever and it won't freeze. It seems to lock up when I'm actually using the computer, mainly when I'm browsing on the internet or using media devices. For example, sometimes I'll download a video to watch or tamper with iTunes and the computer will randomly just lock up and I'll have to restart. Sometimes it will lock up constantly after restarting, then other times I can go hours without any problems. Now what else can I do!? Please help! My Hijack logs never get any responses, so is there anything I can do? Thank you.

Hello Bleepers! You have helped me in the past and I am back. This time, this is my mom's computer and she didn't have a firewall (until now) and so this thing was infected beyond anything I have seen!I will be posting the log below, but first let me tell you a few things. I did follow the preparation instructions as best as I could, however, there were certain things I could not do.Ad-Aware:I kept running Ad-Aware and rebooting and it kept finding 50+ new critical items every time. I then disconnected the internet access to the computer and ran it. This way I got it down to 2 entries it said it couldn't removed and it couldn't remove them even after restarting.Spybot:A similar thing happened with Spybot, except I connected to the internet only to download the software and updates and disconnected to do the scan and fixes. Spybot also said it couldn't fix certain items, EVEN AFTER doing it during rebooting.I then ran HouseCall, Bit Defender and Avert Stinger (Panda was taking too long and I wasn't sure if it was stalled). Then, I installed ZoneAlarm and Finally ran HijackThis.Hopefully you can help me get this thing cleaned up and it top shape soon! I hope this can help someone with the same problem.

http:[email protected]/2054110901/
This pattern is over everything, it's not like the problem many others have had with horizontal lines etc marking broken graphic cards.

I have narrowed down the cause for this to the pin under my ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility or the AGP slot on the motherboard. I opened the computer, took of the keyboard and applied pressure to different parts with a rubber tool. The one place having an effect on the overlay pattern was when i pressed on the screw holes on the right side of the graphics card closest, to the agp connection. It even dissapeared when i pressed hard for a while. It is very sensitive so it came back from pressure on the keyboard later. There's a glitch here.

There is no heat problem as i thougth before, the heatsink under the keyboard is touching the thermal gap filler on GPU. And the temperature is fine.
Functionally the card passed all tests. No broken graphics.

I remember another tech support guy mentioning how many graphic glitches he's fixed by cleaning the agp slot and pins on graphic cards.

If noone else comes up with an idea, this is my last hope.

Any recommendations on what to use for cleaning?

It's been like this for a few weeks. Luckily Winamp and VLC don't seem to be affected so I can get away with using those for most things. It's just a pain because it affects Endorphin and other animation thingamabobdoofas as well as lots of games. I've noticed that things that use directx seem to be okay but opengl things seem to be a bit buggered. It started when I was on a bit of a demo downloading spree (I'm really into the independant game scene) and I had just installed a couple and I think one of them buggered it up. I'm not too sure though.

I've tried digging around on the net for solutions but I've had no luck. I also tried installing newer drivers for my graphics card but still no luck. So yeah. I'm a little scuppered.

I have big folders of bookmarks with folders with bookmarks in them. Every time I go to delete a folder with around 600 bookmarks in it, my browser freezes. (Mainly firefox but I think other browsers freeze too) I know the common sense would be to go bookmark by bookmark etc but that would literally take me a year. Is there any way to get around this problem at all?

Thank you!

A:Browsers keep freezing deleting lots of bookmarks

I don't know in what version this was introduced, but if you go to Organize Bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu you can open the folders and multi select with the Control or Shift keys. If you selected 10 at a time it'll go faster than if you did it one by one, but should be less likely to freeze.

It appears that you have two antivirus programs installed and running, AVG and McAfee. While this may seem like better protection, they can actually conflict with one another and cause system instability or even system hangs. Please choose one to keep and uninstall the other via Add or Remove Programs in your Control Panel.

I suggest you uninstall McAfee. If you do uninstall McAfee, please do the following:

Please download the McAfee VirusScan Removal Tool VSCleanupTool.exe and Save it to your Desktop.Close all programs and double-click VSCleanupTool.exe then click Run
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Restart the computer if asked.
Then delete VSCleanupTool.exe from your desktop.

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or runn... Read more
