Brand new Windows 7 laptop... giving problems.

Q: Brand new Windows 7 laptop... giving problems.

I was like, really excited to get it, then it started giving me problems. ._.

Yesterday, the night I got it, I was playing The Sims 3, and I found that I just couldn't type a thing. Not a thing. I typed things into the box, nothing came out. Thank God for the randomize name feature or I wouldn't have been able to name my Sims. Clicking was okay, and I restarted, haven't had this problem since.

Then about 15 minutes ago, I was happily playing The Sims 3 again, and browsing the web on Firefox, when suddenly my cursor froze. I looked down, and the red light was on. I tried using the arrow keys to scroll down the page, but it gave me a beep. I restarted and it worked fine again.

Five minutes later, the same thing happened, only that I could use my arrow keys to scroll, not like the first time.

Also, one more thing. When I refresh the page in any browser, it sends me straight back to my home page (Google). Is this a feature of Windows 7, or a bug? I'm not really sure since I've been using XP all along. Help please?

Preferred Solution: Brand new Windows 7 laptop... giving problems.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Run 'Windows Update' and post back.

Start, type "Windows Update" without the " and double click. Check for any updates and install accordingly. They may require a restart to take full effect.

I have a HP Presario C700 laptop. Os Win7 home 32bit. When I 1st turn the laptop on cold everything is fine. After a while the front left side of the laptop gets warm. It isn't hot enough to burn my hand. I can rest my hand there for a long time but it does get a bit uncomfortable after a while when I am playing a game.
After a while when the laptop is warmed up. Prog's that need a a lot of cpu usage and memory start slowing down and stop working. Then the prog needs to be closed and reopened. Often FireFox will stop working right in the middle of doing something. Thank the makers of FireFox for putting in a sub routine in that lets FireFox go right back to were ever I was (even if I am in the middle typing a post and I don't lose what I already typed) after restarting the prog. Also I understand that some laptops just do that, getting warm in one spot, because of the design and layout. Is it something I just have live with until I can get a better laptop? or is it something that needs fixing and can be fixed.

OOO a ps. Sometimes, not very often, like with the current proj I am working on with a pare of SDR (Software Defined Radio) RTL USB radio dongles. I am often running 4 or 5 different prog's at the same time to decode the digital signals picked up by the receivers. Windows sometimes, not often, will get so over worked that it locks up the laptop and the only thing left to do is reboot the laptop.

A:re: laptop is giving problems after it heats up

You can try using a laptop cooler.

And to make sure of thermal throttling:
- Change to High Performance power plan - so CPU stay at max frequency
- Download and run HWInfo in sensor-only mode.
- Make sure minimum column for CPU frequency is 100% (multiplier at max), reset the readings (lower right) and keep it running in the background
- Do your thing until it gets slow, then check the frequency (multiplier) minimum to see if CPU has throttled.

Also try to vacuum the fan openings as compressed air may cause more issues with laptops since blown away dust don't have anywhere to escape.

Im having a major problem - my laptop (TOSHIBA SATELLITE L510, Windows XP SP3) was infected with windows repair virus and i was attacked by nearly 40-50 Trojan virus. I used Malware bytes to remove all virus. This same virus problem happened twice in the span of 1-2 months and both the times using Malware bytes i was able to successfully remove the virus. But, after the first virus attack and after i had cleaned my laptop, i was having trouble starting my laptop in the normal mode. Once in a while it would hang at the blue Welcome screen or at times it would hang at the desktop screen with only the desktop image seen and no icons and the only way to restart would be to hold power button. Sometimes I wud have to restart 2-3 times to get it working normally. Then this problem also passed and for a while I didnt really have this problem, until I had the second virus attack. I got an EeePC about 2 weeks ago. It's running WinXP Home SP2 and has a 4GB SSD (it's a subnotebook). I upgraded the RAM from 512 to 2GB. Everything was perfect until Thursday when I inadvertently downloaded a theme file from Appleblossomart.com (AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE) that had the Win32/Gaelicum.A virus. I got rid of it using the vcleaner tool from AVG. After I finished I ran several AVG scans, all came back clear. I ran the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and it found nothing. All was good until Saturday when I clicked shutdown and a window popped up Windows Live Mail couldn't be closed automatically and did I want to manually shut it down (I had already exited the program before clicking shut down). I said yes and it closed and the system shut down normally. I rebooted to see if everything was fine and when I went to shut down this time I got:

"The system is shutting down. Shutdown is initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM

C:\windows\system32\services.exe terminated unexpecetdly with status code 1073741819

System will close and reboot in 60 seconds"

When it rebooted all was fine. In fact I was error free all day Sunday but Monday evening got that error again. When it reboots all is fine. I tried installing AdAware but when I try to run it I get:

"Exception EAccess Violation in module Ad-Aware 2007.exe at 001DD084. Access violation at address 005DD084 in module 'Ad-Aware2007.exe. Read of address 00000414.&q... Read more

You can likely fix the AdAware error by uninstalling AdAware and reinstalling a freshly downloaded copy. But I wonder if there may still be some malware hiding in your system. I'd suggest a couple of these free, online scans to double check:Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully:http://housecall.trendmicro.comhttp://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscannerhttp://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.htmlhttp://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtmlhttp://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asphttp://onlinescan.avast.com/http://ca.com/us/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspxhttp://www.eset.com/onlinescan/<links compiled on 02/14/2008>

I'm setting up an MSI CR70 for one of my staff and am having nothing but problems. I removed some of the bloatware and installed avast! plus a couple other programs and it seemed to be working. She had to ship the laptop back to me because it had become unresponsive and she couldn't use it. I restored the laptop to factory settings and left it running for a while. The HDD LED was constantly on so I checked the performance monitor and disk activity was at 100%. The laptop was sluggish. I eventually worked out it was the scheduled maintenance running but not doing anything. I stopped it and tried installing updates manually but it stays at 0%.

I ran the update troubleshooter and it said it fixed a problem but it was no better so I emptied the SoftwareDistribution folder. I then ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth which took over 2 hours to complete. When it finished I ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth which finished quite quickly so I checked for new updates and only selected the 2 optional updates (hardware drivers) which installed no problem. I then selected all the recommended updates and nothing happened...back to being stuck at 0%.

I just ran /Scanhealth again and it didn't take as long but said "no corruption detected" I haven't installed anything except a few updated drivers. Any ideas or should I send the laptop back?

Personally in cases where you need to identify if it is soft or hardware related problem I like going with safeboot or using a live cd OS and take it from there.

So I bought a brand new hp envy X360 laptop 5 months ago which cost me 85000INR with a fancy bag. Since I was busy I just started using it a couple of days ago.But Whenever I open any page it automatically scrolls down itself to the bottom of the page, even though i try to scroll up it keeps on going to the bottom of the page! Also when I try to click on a folder or my pc in the homescreen it automatically opens the webpage! Also when I try and open a particular folder, it opens some other folder and it keeps on opening the same folder irrespective of which folders I click on! I just can't deselect it!! Yes!! All these malfunctions in a brand new laptop!! So today at around 14.00 hrs IST I call HP support and they connect me to their technical support. Then they tell me to do all these tests for about half an hour(don't know why am the one doing all these tests on a brand new HP laptop when I have heard they have their own testing engineers to do it before a product is sent to the market!! Am really having doubts about the "quality" of their "testing engineers" ). Ok so after doing the tests they tell me that there's no fault in the hardware and I will have to do recovery (or something) and they tell me how to do it. And the technical person informs me it may take a couple of hours to finish the recovery process and she will call me after 2 hours. So after 2 hours the recovery process ended and I got a message on my laptop saying the recovery didn't complete due to an error. ... Read more

Ever since I installed Windows 7 and IE 9 my computer has been giving me fits. Pages and games load extremely slow and I have to refresh constantly. Windows live mail is a nightmare as it takes over 2 minutes to load an email just so that I can delete it. Can I uninstall IE 9 without causing any problems on my computer? And will it revert back to IE 8? I'm thinking that IE 9 is what is giving me such problems and I have heard that it causes a lot of problems with other programs and games. I scan and defrag all the time so I know that isn't my problem with too much junk on the computer. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello all,

I used to use incredimail until I got a new computer with Vista on it. I installed incredimail, and used it (kind of) until I found out it wasn't compatible with Vista, and then uninstalled. I switched over to Windows Mail and have a question.

First off, I HATE IT. I know im a nerd, but I love all the little icons and themes that incredimail has...and windows mail appears to have none of. Well...to the question...

I set up my account, and email works just fine, but there is a problem with attachments. I can receive (for instance) a pdf and save it to my computer. If I open it from its saved location, it opens up perfectly. If I click on the attachment in my email and try to open it that way, I get an error that states something like "there is no file extension set for that file. Please go into control panel and set one."

I know there is a file extension set, because I went into control panel and checked, but it has the acrobat reader icon for the file, and I can open it pefectly if it is saved to my desktop.

Does anyone have an idea why I can open the pdf files perfectly as long as it is saved to the computer, but if I try to open it from Windows Mail, it gives me that file extension error?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

A:Windows Mail is giving me problems

It has something to do with Vista's tight security. With XP, I can open PDF files either way.

I recently noticed that the system was trying to do 7 updates every day at closedown, and found that update was giving a return code of 800736b3.

I have run SURT several times, and it doesn't seem to give any results (or should I be looking somewhere else?).

I ran sfc /scannow and extracted the results and they are in sfcdetails.txt (attached). SFC said there were some files it couldn't fix, even though sfcdetails.txt says it has fixed all of them.

CBS.zip is much too big to upload using the paperclip - is there another way?

I tried restoring to an earlier restore point, and unfortunately all the attempted updates have flushed my list of restore points - and the oldest few all give me a return code of x00000022.

Not sure if this is one problem or two...! I am reluctant to do a System Recovery as it sounds pretty drastic - help would be much appreciated!

I attempted to install the Netflix application on my Windows 8 laptop, and it told me there was an issue with the firewall.
It gave me the Error Code 5, so I fixed it with this video. The instructions within got rid of the Error 5; however, I'm now getting the following message when I attempt to start the firewall from "Services."

There reason I'm trying to start it from Services is because when I try to start the Firewall and "Use recommended settings" from settings page, it displays this, and loads for a second, and then doesn't do anything.

Also, I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but when I try to start Windows Defender, it shows this.

I just spent the last 4 days reformatting my previously-XP computer, installing Windows 7, and setting up all my programs just the way I like them, installing new drivers for the move to Win7, dealing with new problems of moving onto Win7, and so forth. The OS acted like an angel for the first 2-3 days, and now, suddenly, it's acting like a moron.

The '3 Stooges' of problems I'm experiencing very often while it's running is that it often likes to go slow/freeze/(Not Responding)/white window, or give me a totally black screen with just the mouse pointer, or it shows me nothing but the desktop background and the mouse pointer.

Hi everyone. Thanks for taking the time. As a 9 year Windows user I just am left disgusted and disappointed after finally getting an otherwise great new laptop and discovering that these updates that are all waiting for you once you get going do little more than throw your machine into a boot loop, from which there is essentially no escape.*

I've researched this endlessly this morning and no one really has a definitive fix for this. I'm sure it's one or two specific updates in the pack (thinking KB2933809, KB2919355) that are marring the installation, but whatever the case, I am unable to boot into safe mode (yes, I followed all the prompts and did it correctly, it simply restarts back into the error message, I.e. safe mode is not responsive) to carry out any of the procceses stated online, and am left with only a factory reset option to once again try my hand.*

It's actually resetting now to factory, from essentially factory settings, and is taking ungodly long. I based.that previous statement on executing factory resets on many a device over many diff versions of windows over the better part of ten years.

I have chronic pain in my fingers and so I have to stop typing right there since this is on my smartphone and hurts tremendously to do.*

If any good soul out there can assist me, please:

Thank you for reading my querey.

Hi Windows Hater, welcome to the TSG Forums....

It is easy to understand your frustration, annoyance and other less printable feelings towards everything computing... I've been there, got many a T-shirt with that logo on it.

There are two things that I can share with you right up front.

1. Lenovo

My experiences with Lenovo has mainly been positive. When I have had a less-than-positive experience, they have immediately and unreservedly "sorted the problem". 1st-line support is rather inexperienced, but once you move on to 2nd-line support the support personnel are knowledgeable and very helpful and respond promptly to email correspondence.

2. W8.1

I have supported Windows OS's since W95 and I can absolutely assure you that W8.1 is the best, most accomplished and most professional OS yet produced by Redmond.

So what should you do to fix your problem...? Contact Lenovo and let them sort it out for you - which they will do. As a customer of theirs, there is absolutely no reason why you should have to sort out a computer that is still under warranty.

I'm giving a my old laptop to my friend but first I want to reinstall Windows XP so all my data will be wiped.

I bought the laptop used, so it didn't come with an OS DVD. I searched through my stuff and managed to find the Operating System DVD for my old computer which the disc to install Windows XP Media Center 2005.

So can I install this OS on the laptop? And if I do, does that mean all of my data will be gone (which is my goal)?

A:[SOLVED] Giving Dell Laptop to friend, question about reinstalling Windows XP Media C

Technically, if it's an OEM disk then, no, you can't install it. If it's a full (or upgrade) version then you should be fine providing it is not installed on any other machine. If you don't care whether it has an OS installed or not then boot from the CD (DVD?) that you have and allow the setup to proceed as far as the disk formatting section. Allow it to format and then cancel the install. Nice clean disk that only a forensic expert would be able to reconstruct any data that was there.

I just received a new XPS 13 laptop and was dismayed to find that it failed to boot properly, giving the error "No boot device". The automatic Dell diagnostic tests did not find any problems.
Fortunately I had a bootable Ubuntu stick handy, but when I booted into Ubuntu and began the Ubuntu installation process, it told me that no operating system was detected on the computer. I re-checked my order and it was supposed to come with Windows 10 installed. Regardless of whether I can install Ubuntu, I would like Windows to be on it as well. Is there anything I can do short of returning the laptop?

Hi All

First post here and really hope someone can help. Bought a new Laptop with Windows 10 preinstalled from pc specialist, I turned it on and started going through the set up, once I had done all the normal stuff with the Microsoft account, wifi settings etc it came to a 'Just a moment' screen with spinning dots, and it has been stuck there all afternoon now and really dont know what to do. I have tried resetting it and it goes straight back to the same screen and I cant get out of it!

Any help would be appreciated, I was so excited to get my PC now my mood is gone.

A:Brand New Laptop Windows 10 Boot loop

When you reboot does it begin at the setup wizard? If it returns to the beginning of the setup then don't connect to the wireless and setup a local user account instead and see if it progresses. If it still hangs remove the wireless card and try again. If that ails return it to the "PC Specialist" and ask him to reinstall Windows 10 using the latest Anniversary Update ISO. This occasionally happened with the older release with certain PC's & setups.

Posting here after ongoing frustration with Dell's Hardware Warranty & Tech Support, in hopes of a response that's actually helpful. I've had this laptop for about a month now, and have been troubleshooting BSODs since day one. If I was wiser, I would've returned it right away, but now I'm stuck. BlueScreenView gives me Bug Check Code 0x000000f4 and lists ntoskrnl.exe as the driver cause, ntoskrnl.exe+74ec0 as the address. This is the same error code that I've been seeing all along. Dell Tech said it was a memory problem, shipped me new RAM under warranty; I installed it less than a week ago and the system BSOD'd again tonight, so that did not fix the problem. I'm a grad student, so most of my computer usage (and what I'm doing when the crashes happen) is reading articles online and using Word, Media Player Classic, and occasionally Skype--nothing that should be straining a brand new laptop. I'm out of town and don't have access to the Windows 7 disc or my external HD to do an OS reinstall right now. I've run Dell's onboard ePSA diagnostics and they don't pick up any errors, nor does their online support analysis; ran Memtest86+ but only for 3 passes, again no errors; sfc /scannow turns up errors with the usbhub.sys.mui driver th... Hi! I suggest you test one memory stick at a time in each slot. You could have a bad memory slot that is causing you grief. You have a lap top, so you should only have two slots. It's best to test your RAM one stick at a time and alternate the slots.
You might look at your reliability monitor. Some times it will give you a clue.

(I did not know where else to post this so I put it here)

I just opened a brand new V3-575G (i7-6500U 2.5GHz) and it is extremely slow.

After opening the package I booted the laptop up. As soon as everything was done, the first thing that happened before I even opened anything was that windows stopped responding, and I was greeted with a "end process" window. That was half an hour ago and since, there has been half a dozen more cases of this as well as extremely slow browsing. I have had to restart many times due to the laptop freezing and in one of the times the laptop wouldn't even boot up, it just stayed on the Acer loading screen while starting (and had to restart again).

I have no idea why it is acting up this way, as the specs are more than capable of running Windows 10 at the very least. 8 GB Ram and i7-6500U 2.5GHz.

$800 price-tag and this is what I get. :|

I would install the latest drivers (beginning, of course, with the chipset) from Acer's web site and if that does not solve the issue have it replaced or my money refunded.

My son recently got a new Samsung ATIV Book 4 laptop and it will continuously go from being "connected" to our wifi, to "limited." It works just fine while plugged in with ethernet cable.
I have tried unplugging and replugging in the router. It works for a while then goes to limited again. I looked this problem up through search engines and someone talked about a static IP address but I don't know our router login/password.
I also saw someone talk about wireless networks in the neighborhood that may be broadcasting on the same channel but there wasn't any info on how to check/change that.
I hope someone can help. There's nothing like getting a brand new toy that won't work right.

A:Intermittent WiFi Connection on Brand New Laptop w/ Windows 8

After posting this I searched again and found a video that explained how to change the power management under configure under properties of the wifi connection that was showing limited connection (again). By unchecking the box that allows the computer to turn off the access point, the computer now leaves that function alone. But in order for it to work I needed to restart the computer (I know, an easy step that I totally forgot to do).
But it still doesn't work!!
So frustrating!

Hi. So, I just purchased a brand new HP laptop with Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11 already installed. I just want to download and use Firefox as my default browser, but so far I'm having no luck.

First of all, IE 11 won't even display Mozilla's web page properly. It only shows a stripped down, text-only version that is of no use to me at all. (This is also a problem with my Outlook email, and probably a few other sites.) I don't know if this is because the computer is brand new and I need to install certain software or change certain settings to fix it or not. I can click on some of the text, but it doesn't take me anywhere. It says Internet Explorer cannot display the web page. (And by the way, other computers in the house are working just fine on the internet, so it's not the network connection.)

So then I downloaded a Firefox installation file on a different computer, and used a flash drive to transfer it onto my new laptop. I was able to open the file, but every time I tried to install Firefox (either Metro or the latest standard version) I got an error message saying, "Your download was interrupted. Please click the OK button to continue." So I did, and it would open up IE and take me to some non-functional, text-only Mozilla page again. I'm at a loss.

If you could help me get Firefox working on my new laptop, that would be amazing. Thanks for your time!

So i was very excited since i bought a new laptop from Alienware \ Dell this weekbut it has a lot of bugs which are very annoying:

WinKey + Arrow issue

after some time, when maximizing screens or moving them left or right (Using the [WinKey + Arrow] combination) it suddenly stops working. the key WinKey alone is working, keyboard arrows are working.. but to use this functionality.. not working any more... The only way i found to fix this issue was to restart the computer - and then it would work. I have seen people suggesting to enable "Snap" on the options, but it is already enabled.. there is some other bug in here.

Maximized screen, not fully maximized

i have experienced a weird problem, in which when i have a maximized screen (for example chrome browser) moving between desktops and coming back to the browser, for some reason it wasnt really fully maximized.. it was like 1 inch away from the top of the screen.. with a weird little space (Although the icon of the 'Restore' was showing, in order to "fix" it i had to minimize and maximize the screen again. Which was not so bad if the WinKey + Down, WinKey + Up combinations worked..

Not really a problem, more of a request - Virtual desktops

If you want to have that "multiple \ virtual desktops" to work as users expect.. make it more like linux? The ability to move one screen to another from the keyboard (CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + ARROW) is something i use a lot and it will be very helpful... Read more

To anyone who can help,

I bought a new HP Pavilion DV2395EA Laptop 3-4 days ago and it came with Vista Home Premium already installed. For a few days I began putting in some of my music CD's and importing the tracks to iTunes. It worked fine.

Today, I inserted a PC Game CD (Battlefield II if it makes any difference) and the CD-Rom made the usual sounds that you hear when a CD is inserted, and then everything just stopped. Just to make sure, I put it another music CD (different to the first one I put in a few days back) and the same thing happened - the CD Drive reacted initially then stopped. Neither of the CD's were run.

So I went to the Device Manager, DVD/CD-Rom Drives, and the CD-Rom is called

TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632M ATA Device

I right-clicked it and it stated the following under "Device Status":

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

Obviously I clicked "check for solutions" and it informed me that my driver was the latest and is upto-date.

When I select Driver > Update Driver it says that I already have the best driver software installed on my device.

My clear problem is that there is a problem with my CD Drive and I don't know how to solve it.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated,

I just built my second computer. I bought all the parts I needed and went to work installing them in my new tower.

My specs are in my profile!

Problem is I am getting all these pixels on my screen. I don't know what it is but it only started after a day on my new machine. I did a bunch of updates and installed the driver that came with the Card but It is really bugging me that this brand new machine is messed up! I thought it was a temperature issue but its running at 37 C so its not the temp of the Card! What else could it be? I will install the newest driver and see if that changes anything and will post back with my results!

Hi all, I'm new here so sorry if i've made a mistake in my post or if these problems already have a solution. I'm using a brand new ThinkPad T450s. Sometimes when the display times out (if im inactive for a while) the power light will stay on meaning the computer is not sleeping, however I can't get the display to turn back on (it's just a black screen). After a few minutes of this, the computer shuts down by itself. Also, sometimes when i close the lid, the light stays on and the computer doesn't sleep even though it is meant to (i already checked control panel settings), other times it will work normally. Yesterday i went away, the screen went to black but the power stayed on as usual, the computer shut down by itself and when i turned it back on i got multiple different BSODs, all with different error messages. I restored my computer (it gave me the option to restore windows but keep my existing files which I did). The computer gave me one more BSOD today but it restarted and is working now. I suspected something wrong with the display drivers so i updated everything and it's working now. However, youtube videos are crashing and causing me to have to shut down the system, when it restarts it takes a very very long time to get the display going. I ran the DM Logs and they're attached here. Thank you in advance for your help!

My husband bought me a brand new laptop from Best Buy and also recently purchased an iPod touch for me for Mother's day. I had downloaded iTunes 9 on my old laptop (before getting this new one), the old computer was running Windows XP and I did not encounter any problems installing iTunes 9 & using it to get my Touch started.

I wish to install iTunes 9 on the new computer to use for playing, storing, and burning CDs but when the download is complete and I start going through the installation process, at the very end of it all I get an error message saying that the installer detected an error and the installation could not be completed...and then something about try installing later. I would have copied and pasted the message but I am in a bit of a hurry and I don't have time to sit through the whole download again to get the message.

Anyway, I can follow directions but if anyone has any help to offer please put the information in lamens terms...I'm very familiar with computers and other forms of technology but after wasting all day trying to solve this on my own I just want someone who can help to give me the simple steps to solve this problem so I can get iTunes up and running.

Let's try looking at these 2 sets of reports:1)  Please run this report collecting tool (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location.By default it'll be a .zip file located on your DesktopSimply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there. If it doesn't work for you, then please try this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/2)  Please do the following:- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")- right click on the "Administrative Events" heading- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."- save the file as Admin.evtx- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Hello, I have recently bought my daughter her first laptop as a gift and have been racking my brains as to why Windows 7 won't install. We get an error message of which I attach a screenshot (well a photo of the screen).
I am well versed with PC's, after all I am able to get the USB Flash drive recognized and started. It isn't until just after "Starting Windows" does the screen go blue with said verbage.

Now to put things into context my daughter wanted a computer like mine, which is Asus X75VC, of which I have no issues running Windows 7.
Her new Asus X540s struggles with Win10, regardless, we don't want Win 10, but will keep it as the main C partition for now. Am also waiting on Linux Mint 18, but today I need Windows 7 so please help!

Have spent the past few days scouring these forums, but have yet to find a solution to this "modern" problem. Computers these days seem to be going backwards, with less customizeability freely available at our disposal.

I just unpacked my custom build and got it turned on.. went to try and get the internet working, and for the life of me.. i can't figure it out.
I don't even have a little wireless bar down in the right hand corner. when i try to connect to a network in network and sharing center, it wants me to plug in an ethernet cable. But i want wireless.. Also in the side panel of Network and sharing center, i don't even have the option for wireless.. i have Change adapter settings, and Change advanced sharing settings.

I try to set up a new connection or network and Connect to the internet, the only way it asks me to connect is by broadband(PPPoE). If i try set up a new network it asks me to choose the wireless router or access point i want to configure, might take up to 90 seconds for networks to appear.. but nothing pops up.
Anyone have any ideas?
