Windows XP restarts in loading

Q: Windows XP restarts in loading

When I try booting my computer, it reaches the end of the "Windows XP Loading Screen" and it just restarts itself. I've tried multiple times, and always the same result. But when I tried booting to safe mode, it works fine (until I plugged in a flash drive, then it restarted). I have also tried booting to a Linux (Knoppix) disc and there were no issues there. I've taken the harddrive out and accessed it without issues using an external enclosure. I can access the files fine, but I can't boot to it.

I think it may be a problem with the harddrive itself, but the fact that I can boot to safe mode confuses me.
If anyone has any ideas, please help.
Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Windows XP restarts in loading

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows XP restarts in loading

Try running chkdsk in Safe Mode.Right click on the C drive in Explorer and go Properties > Tools > Check Now (under Error Checking). Check both boxes then click "Start Now". A message will pop up saying that Error Checking will run after you restart the computer. Restart the computer and Error Checking will run automatically after the restart. After it?s finished it will restart into Windows automatically.

Hey guys I woke up this morning and turned my computer on to find for no apparent reason it restarts on the windows loading screen. The bar stops moving, there is a flash of blue screen for a fraction of a second, then the restart. I now get the options of start normally - which doesn't work, or start with last known good configuration - which doesn't work too. I can however, which I have noticed is different to other people with a similar problem, use all the safe mode options, and I am now posting here from safe mode with networking. This makes me think that my hard drive is not at fault, but other than that I am clueless. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! Can you state what you might have installed before this started? Any new hardware installed, programs, drivers?

If you can boot into safe mode this is aiming toward a program or hardware issue.

A:Windows xp restarts after loading screen

Hi sensrule and welcome to TSF !

To make it sure : you did a clean reinstall (formatting the drive, reinstalling windows from the start) and still got the same problems ?

What are the motherboard, PSU and RAM brands and models ? What are the PSU specifications (should be written on a sticker on the side of the power supply) ?

Could you download and install everest, or install whatever monitor program that came with your motherboard driver CD, and report here with the temperatures, fan speeds and voltages ? We don't need the whole everest report, only the informations under "sensor". We need to double-check those values with the ones from the BIOS, so enter the BIOS (repeatedly press del at computer startup), find the screen that monitors those voltages, fans speeds and temperatures and give us also the values reported there.

Could be faulty ram : download and burn Memtest86+ bootable ISO. Boot the computer on the CD : you'll have to enter the bios and change the boot device priority to CD-rom first. Let memtest run three full passes on your ram (it can take some time, you can let it run overnight). If it finds errors, you'll have to redo the tests on one ram stick at a time to identify the failing one(s) : open the case and leave only one ram stick on the motherboard (remove the power cable and touch a metal part of the case before you touch any internal components) then reboot on memtest CD. It's recommendend that you also run Windiag to double check ... Read more

Basically here is what happened. i was having graphics glitches and trying to fix it, some1 suggested i had artifact problems which meant my GPU was screwed. i removed my GPU and this started happening. b4 this my computer would boot with the GPU in it but the graphics were fcked.

now my computer wont boot in normal or safe mode, with the GPU in or out. GPU in i dont see anything at all but i hear the pc booting. A:PC restarts after windows loading screen

Hi knoddy

What is the make/model of your PC?

I'll assume you know that when working on a PC, you know how to take anti-static precautions, and to have the power off & the cord unplugged.

Try:
1) Remove the add-on graphics card.
2) As the computer is powering on, immediately start tapping the key/key combo mentioned in your bios banner or bios splash screen "Press F1 (or F2, F10, DEL, etc.) to Enter Setup".
3) In the Bios, make sure the date/time settings haven't moved backwards a year or two. If the time/date have moved backwards, it's time to replace the CMOS battery (see your system manual or your vendor's support webpages for full details on how to do that).
4) Look for an item in the Bios that allows you to "Save Defaults & Exit", and choose that.
5) As the system is restarting, begin tapping the F8 key, and see if you can enter Safe Mode.
6) If you can enter Safe Mode OK, visit Device Manager in the Control Panel (Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager) and remove all the devices listed in "Display Adapters".
7) Visit Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, and remove any video/graphics drivers that might be listed there.
8) On reboot, Windows should redetect the onboard graphics, and install drivers (you might have to allow it to visit Widows Update to get the most recent driver).

If that helps things display OK, next see if you can return your video card for a refund (if it's under warra... Read more

I have read some posts on the internet, but none seem to be similar to my situation. I have loaded and used Vista Ultimate for over 3 years now with my 3 year old computer and just recently it started to restart automatically when it's loading windows. I get an option to safe mode start with either networking drivers or command prompt but any selection I choose still gets restarted automatically. It never was a problem before and my computer has been stable for 3 years now, anyone know of a solution to get back into windows so that I may save my files and then I will just do a clean install. I don't have a secondary HDD so a few options are out anyone know anything else that might help?

P.S I also have Windows 7 Ultimate and when I put the disk in it loaded the installation phase but I cannot upgrade from startup I have to be in Windows to do that, and I don't want to do a clean install. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Tricky one this.

Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop - Was working fine, I restarted the machine then the the laptop would get to "Windows XP loading" (just before the login screen) and restart itself after the login screen.

I then disabled the harddrive after it happened a fair few times. I then booted a USB stick with ubuntu on, and it loaded but if the hard drive was connected it would show lines down the screen just a few RED GREEN BLUE ones.

So this morning I placed a Latitude D630 hard drive in the laptop. It would do the same but this time with vista.

What could the problem be?

I'm wondering possibly could it be the bios? How can I over come this. There was an error with the Windows XP when I stopped the machine from restarting but rather it turning straight off it came up with a blue screen about how i have installed new software or hard ware. The only thing was before it turned off it had some form of virus on it, which disabled the microsoft essential security.

I tried installing AVG but it didn't work as Windows Installer now wasn't working. The virus seemed to had only affected the internet when I done searches a page unrelated to the search would display.

I then tried installing avg but windows installer needed ot be instaled so I installed that it restarted itself and now this is the problem I'm facing.

Hardware failuer more than likely. If you are getting lines up and down the screen it is probably a video adapter and/or it's memory. Try running some diagnostics as I think DELL has those in the startup options.

Exactly what happends,

- I start the pc,
- Pc shows normal starting up black screen with white text every thing says its ok there.
- Pc then says something like "Windows was not closed properly"
And allows me to pick the normal safeboot safeboot with networking and safeboot with command. And sepperate is Start from last known working config.
All 4 then start to load XP and it crashes about 1 second into it.

Does any one know what the problem could be.

Yea. might be a virus. Might be your Windows installation is corrupt.

If you want to first just get to your data to back it up See How to recover your folders/files when Windows won?t boot

To fix the problem, you can also scan for a virus (as suggested) as well as repairing your Windows installation from your XP CD

Hello everyone, please help.

I'm having a problem in starting Windows Vista (OEM) in my Acer Aspire 5735.

Everytime my laptop reaches somewhen between loading screen to welcome screen, it unexpectedly restarts with no blue screen or any message. The restart it does cuts the power, turning it off and back on then boots normally. Making a restart loop.

This also happen to any Windows Installer. I tried booting it with Windows 7 and 8 installer but the problem still occurs.

The weird thing is when I run the Acer eRecovery Management or Windows System Repair and Recovery I created before upon boot, it runs fine and I be able to restore my laptop to its factory defaults. But when I tried to boot it again, the problem still occur.

THE PROBLEM ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I BOOT WINDOWS. But when I go to BIOS settings, booted USBDOS, flashing BIOS, it works fine...

What's the matter with my laptop? This is the weirdest problem that I'm facing when fixing computers...

These are the things that I had done but the problem still persists:

1. Flashed the BIOS from 1.07 to 1.10 using USBDOS.
2. Restored the BIOS to factory defaults.
3. Restarted the CMOS and changed the CMOS battery.
4. Removed the hard drive and booted using the Windows disc
5. Removed external devices and battery
6. Reseated the CPU and RAM
7. Diagnosed the RAM using memtestx86+ (no errors)
8. Check the power (no faults)

Please help me in solving my problem. Thanks for reading

On my personally built desktop I recently encountered a problem where my computer restarts when loading windows. More specifically, when I power on my PC it first sends me to the screen where you see, "we apologize for the inconvenience...windows did not start sucessfully...recent hardware or software changes may have caused this." it then gives you the five options: Start windows normally, Start windows with last known good configuration, safe mode, safe mode with cmd prompt, and safe mode with networking.

When I choose either of the first two it begins to start windows but then suddenly restarts and goes back to the previously mentioned screen. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. If I choose any of the three safe mode options I can watch as it loads the required system files for windows. They speed along for about three seconds and then stop on a file and then the computer restarts itself again. All three stop on the same file, "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)/WINDOWS/system32/Drivers/agp440.sys" I am assuming when I choose the non-safe mode options it is restarting on the sae file even though I can't see it happen.

Usually when a computer does something of this nature it can be because of a few things, power, cooling, or possibly a virus. I calculated for my sysrem how much power it needed and by my estimations it's ok. All my fans are spinning so I don't think it's cooling. I recently reformatted to RAID 0 but I install and... I don't think this is of help but I'm having the exact same problem. I just got a new motherboard and p4 2.66 processor but it does this exact same thing. Although after the lines of partition stuff you mention I'll get a flash of a windows xp screen then a flash of a blue screen. F5 or F4 brought up a screen that gave me a choice of not restarting on errors. The screen says to check the disk, controller, or for viruses. Now I know there's nothing wrong with the hard drive cause I'm using it right now (reinstalled old motherboard etc). The only thing I can think of is the controller on the new mobo is bad. But I'm lurking to see if there's any bright ideas coming. It has occured to me that my power supply isn't up to the new mobo I'm only running a 300 watt ( have a 550w sitting here waiting to fix this problem first).

Some background. About an year ago, my hp dc7800 wouldn't start and was giving the 5 beeps with red light. I had not used it for a month, and the tech fixed it. Nie again, after an year, I turned it on. It's been working fine for a month but during that time, the pc would suddenly stop, and even task manager won't work. I robstalled windows after the first time, because the windows splash screen would get stuck. It happened again but then I reset the CMOS, and I think I used f8 and booted with last known good configuration. Now it's happened again but none of that works. The windows splash screen loads and a blue screen comes on for a very short trine before it restarts. I can't read what it says but it's not the standard BSOD,too short. I tried removing the DIMM stocks one by one but no dice. The windows startup repair said that problems had been fixed but they weren't. I've tried running a hard drive diagnostic but my cd Tom is screwed as it won't open, so I can't make a bootable cd, and the bootable USB I made doesn't work either. If you need any logs tell me and I'll post them, but my pc won't boot in safe mode either and just restarts.

Windows Xp crashs during windows loading screen and reboots. Displays a blue screen with no errors on it only the stop information, 0x00000024 (0x001902FE, 0xBA52F380, 0xBA52f07c,0x8AD5980F). This blue screen stays up for less than a second, needed to video record it to get the numbers. Windows doesn't load in normal mode, or any of the safe modes. I have tried chkdsk /r and /p. Bootcfg /scan fails, and /rebuild also fails. I have also cleared Cmos on my motherboard, which didn't work either. I also tested the ram, tried booting with 1 of 3 sticks in 3 times rotating the sticks, I wouldn't think all 3 would fail at the same time. The HD does show serial numbers tho and appears to be working. This all started when i was running a virus scanner, it crashed, and the problems started. Any help is appreciated, I have yet to try fixmbr, and a repair install. The fixmbr says it could cause a problem with the HD, that is the reason I haven't tried it yet. Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thanks

Ok so I got into work today and an employee was having issues with their PC. It's a Compaq built machine with Windows XP. The machine boots up into the loading screen, says it's loading and then restarts and gives me the option to go into safemode and all that because the machine was not properly shut down.

I've been researching the problem for a few hours now, and the employee had said "the computer was acting up lately" but couldn't give me any information past that.

So far I have replaced the power supply, checked the fans, checked the RAM, checked the IDE cable to the HardDrive, and made sure nothing is overheating.

In short Im at a loss here and I can't seem to figure it out. He needs the PC back ASAP and I'm running low on time now.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Does choosing safe mode allow you to boot the PC to Windows? It may be that Windows is crashing or hitting a blue screen and restarting because it's configured to do that.

hey anyone have any idea why this may be?
im trying to boot up my computer using an ATA drive. I normally boot using SATA drive but it currently wont boot as it is stuck in the middle of a windows xp setup that fails to complete everytime (it locks up at 2minutes remaining).
im using an ATA drive to load windows so i can copy the files off of the SATA drive to back it up so that i can reformat the SATA drive.

for some reason every time i go to load windows on the ATA drive, it goes to the 'do you want to load last known good config" screen and no matter what i pick, the computer reboots.

why would it do this?
i've tried unplugging all drive except the ATA and it did nothing

Hi

Suddenly having serious problems with my computer.

Has been working fine for months but when I turned it on yesterday I started having problems.

The problem is that the computer starts to boot up fine, but when it reaches the Windows Loading screen it restarts the whole process of booting up again. This loop continues and does not stop.

Have tried starting the PC in safe more and all the other different modes but it doesnt make a difference.

Have also tried changing the boot order of the drives, no difference.

Unfortunatly I do not own a CD to re-boot or re-install the OS as the computer was passed onto my from a relative. They dont have the CD either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have alot of photos and documents on the PC that I would like to get back!

it loads the windowx xp screen and the blue thing scrolling showing that windows xp is loading (basically the windows xp loading screen)

it keeps doing this loop.
i tried, putting a xp installation cd in but i cant seem to boot from it.

PLEASE ADVISE, THANKS

A:after windows xp loading screen computer restarts!!

This is what we refer to as the blue screen of death unfortuinately that usually means something bad. First off try booting to the xp cd and doing repair and when you log into the windows it asks for usually number one iwth a blank admin password at the command prompt type chkdsk /r and run that until it says no errors and then try to boot again. If that doesnt work let me know and we can try other things.

Well I had trouble finding anyone else with this exact problem. I'll try explaining this the best I can.

Well when I start my computer, it sometimes goes to the last known configuration page. The one that looks like this:

No matter which option I choose, when it gets to the Windows XP loading screen, it lags when the windows xp logo fades in, and then the computer restarts.
I did find a temporary way around this. When the computer starts up I hit F8 and i'm shown this screen:

Then, if I choose my hard drive, the loading screen comes up, and everything works fine. I figured this may be a hard drive issue, so I ordered a new hard drive. (I needed one anyway)

My original HDD is a Western Digital 75GB Raptor, the new one i bought is a Western Digital 640GB, both SATA. I tried setting them both up on my computer so I could transfer over some important files, but when I booted the computer with both of them installed, the computer would lag on the windows xp loading screen no matter what I did.

So I took that out and now i'm in the same position I was before. Anyone have any advice?

Make sure the CD/ROM Is set for first boot in the bios and install XP anew in the new drive. After the install shutdown the computer and connect the old drive and boot up the computer. Now you should be able to access the old drive and transfer your data to the new drive. Once done and confirmed that the data is transferred, you can delete, or format the old drive.

Ok, this is weird
My computer just randomly restarted, then I got this message that system32/hal.dll is missing, so I used chkdsk /r to repair, now my computer restarts every time it finishes the windows splash screen.

Any ideas?, Because i've tried them all

Thanks

Boot off of the XP CD and get to the Recovery console. Try Chkdsk /p again. And report back.

Not sure what the problem is. Basically, for a long while now, whenever I restarted my computer or sometimes turned it off, the computer seems to fail to get past "loading" the floppy disk, and as a result is on, but there is no display or anything.

Today I went on my computer in the morning, right clicked on MSN messenger, and it shut off. Now, whenever it gets past the Windows loading screens (this goes for Safe Mode as well), it simply restarts, and fails to load the floppy drive and there is no display. I have to manually turn the power off on the back of the computer, wait a little, and then power it back on, but it's always the same deal. My operating system is Windows XP Professional.

What should I do? What can the problem be?

Hi everyone. Okay, as the title says, I cannot get my computer past the Windows loading screen.I tried in safe mode, taking out one stick of RAM, switching the sticks around, anything I thought would work and nothing.I had recently gotten rid completely of AntivirusPro 2009 and could finally download AVG.After downloading it, I did a full scan and it found roughly 6 viruses. The one virus that I thought was odd was winlogon.exe, obviously you can't delete that and I'm pretty sure AVG has no access to delete that either. But anyways, after all that happened, I had to restart my computer as AVG instructed, thus starting the endless cycle of restarting after the windows loading screen. If you have any tips or suggestions, please let me know.

While my friend was playing Dead Island, my computer started to get laggy, then shut off randomly. When I tried to reboot it, it would freeze after a successful POST. I have since been able to get it all the way to the Windows loading screen. Once it starts loading windows, a BSOD flashes for just a second and then my computer restarts.

Any help provided will be much appreciated.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and which one was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Informa... Read more

Welcome to TSF....

Give this a try:

If you have a Full Operating System on CD then you can try this:

1. Configure the computer to start from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. For information about how to do this, see your computer documentation, or contact your computer manufacturer.
2. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer.
3. When you receive the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM.
4. When you receive the "Welcome to Setup" message, press R to start the Recovery Console.
5. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you have to use from the Recovery Console.
6. When you are prompted, type the administrator password, and then press ENTER (if none was set, leave it blank and press ENTER).
7. At the command prompt, type bootcfg /list, and then press ENTER. The entries in your current Boot.ini file appear on the screen.
8. At the command prompt, type bootcfg /rebuild, and then press ENTER. This command scans the hard disks of the computer for Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows NT installations, and then displays the results. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to add the Windows installations to the Boot.ini file. For example, follow these steps to add a Windows XP installation to the Boot.ini file:

Hi, so I woke up this morning and turned on my pc and it turned on then went to a screen that said, turn on pc in: safe mode, safe mode with networking, start windows normally, etc.

So I clicked on all of them and the result was the same, It took me to the windows XP loading screen were the blue bar at the bottom would begin to load and then it would just restart, it has been doing this all day.

I have been googling this issue all day but I do not know what to do.

Originally I presumed my power supply might be at fault since it seemed to be making lots of noises the past 4 months.
I have read that faulty RAM could also be the issue, I am currently running memtest86.
I have heard of people reformatting and the problem persisted.

I just need some advice.

btw, this is posted from my other pc

Not to be a messenger of doom, but i once saw a video on youtube about this exact problem. The poor guy had to replace his entire motherboard. I hope this isn't the cause of your problem, but it is a possible cause.

Hi there,Background & probs with CombofixIt was suggested by the guys at the Micro Star forums that I run ComboFix to solve / diagnose any problems with a PC I am trying to fix. After following the guide on the bleepingcomputer webiste, and disabling security software etc.. the program just sits there and doesn't get past the 'This typically doesn't take more than 10 minutes - However...' message. It does not alter the clock or suggest it is going to do so and it does not get to any of the test stages.History of problems with computer (lasting one month)[RARE] BSOD reporting PFN_LIST_CORRUPT (0x8F) - tested drivers and memory (idividually and then both 512 sticks with memtest up to 40 passes) - all tested as working[FREQUENT] Some cold starts result in restarts at random points in the start-up process (initial checks... login screen... loading windows...) - some restarts result in a dead computer with a flashing HD light though this is quite rareTested without cards (except GFX card) / drives etc.. and still have unstable PC. Sometimes, it boots without failure many times in succession - but turning it off for a while, and then turning it back on will provoke the problems. The Pc is clean of dust. The PC is a work colleagues' and they have used tools to remove virii (pc tools, avg, spybot) - I have scanned it myself with Spybot & AVGIf anyone can give me some advice it'd be most appreciated.Thanks,James--------------------------------------------... Hello Gurus,

I am having problem installing Windows 7 on this laptop HP Pavillion dv7-3007sg.
This PC comes with a German language and I want to convert it to English language
so I decided to clean install it. So I decided to delete the all partition including the
recovery partition and the recovery disk cannot be found already.
It restart or reboot during the loading of Windows files whenever I tried to reinstall it.
My question now is, how am I going to clean install Win 7 without needing the recovery partition and
recovery disk. Is there any work-around of doing it?

Thank you so much,

A:HP Pavillion dv7-3007sg : Restarts on loading Windows files

Do you have a Win 7 DVD with a valid COA?

Delete or remove all the partitions, insert the Win 7 DVD and it should install. Select your options to load the English version. There are several tutorials covering clean install. Do a search of the tutorial forum and follow the tutorial explicitly.

I'm posting this on my laptop at the moment.

Earlier today my computer froze, so I reset it. My hand twitched and I pressed the switch twice in the same second, which is bad. I think it might have cause my computer to short out, but I sure hope not. So I turn it on and I get to the usual "Choose how you want to reboot Windows" screen after your computer gets turned off automatically. I chose every option and each one lead to the same result: they all went to the Windows loading screen and my computer reset from there.

Has anyone experienced this before and/or knows how to fix it? I really don't want to have to wipe my hard drive since at the moment I had just finished downloading King Crimson and Porcupine Tree ><

Hi, last night I was running a virusscan and adaware scans, disk cleanup (adaware, spybot, windows thing, etc) as I always do. Only difference was that i uninstalled my ATI drivers in preparation for installing the 5.11 drivers.

Well, I wake up this morning and my PC is on a blank screen saying "Hardware initiate failed, press G to continue"...

So I restart. All my computer does is hang at the Windows loading screen for like 5 minutes until it restarts by itself.

Then when it restarts I get the choice of running Windows normally, safe mode, or last known config. Last known good config does the same as running Windows normally - it hangs on the loading screen.

I've tried safe mode but it hangs when the list of drivers appears on my screen.

What do you think is wrong? I'd like to fix this without having to reinstall windows, etc. Do you think it has something to do with the fact that I uninstalled the ATI drivers?

I've updated drivers before AND did my virusscan/adaware scans before with this problem never occuring like this.

Please help, this is urgent as there are alot of important unfinished documents on there.

Thanks!

hey Blaine B.,

try a windows repair and see if that helps at all. bootup with your windows xp cd and then on the main console, choose install windows. press F8 to agree and then on the next screen, instead of reformatting and installing windows, choose the option that says "R=windows repair." then see if this works out for you. good luck

hi everyone

well I am going to talk about this problem from the beginning
my laptop was fine running on vista OS and when I heared about windows 7
I installed it and that went fine too
4 months later the laptop suddenly restarts at any time (browsing - playing games .. etc)
I took it to a technical and he formatted it to windows XP then when I opened the laptop it restarted on loading screen (where the logo is displayed)
I told the technical and he said that I should go to safe mode and restart from there I tried this and it worked
a few weeks later and this method stopped working
now I must go to safe mode and restart and go there again and restart ... etc now it is luck which opens it cause it works sometimes and sometimes not
yesterday i re-installed windows 7 on another drive (not C:/) and to complete installation I must restart the computer
now I must choose an operation system on startup so when i choose windows 7 it restarts on loading and the same on XP but I can acces safe mode in XP

My Laptop is toshiba satellite A300 - 4GB Ram - ATI Radeon Graphic card 1GB - 400 GB hdd

thanks for any help

A while ago, my computer started making some wierd beeps and would not start. The problem was exactly the same as this guys: (cant post link, add "http:")

So, I concluded that my motherboard was faulty. My computer is an old HP that should still work.
I bought a motherboard (P25G PCChips) from newegg to replace the faulty one. Its compatible with the CPU and memory and everything. So when I go to turn it on...it starts up to the black screen and reads the CPU and says that something is wrong and that I should goto the BIOS and change something. I dont specify the "something" because after i goto the BIOS and change somethings around, then restart it fixes THAT. It seems that everything is going OK and contiues to load, but as soon as it gets to the WINDOWS XP loading screen it restarts. Its very frustrating and I dont know what to do. It gvies and endless loop that the only way to stop is to mess around with the BIOS.

Ive tried it with two different HDDs, both HP oems, same thing. I dont know what it could be.

I'm running an Acer Aspire 5550 with a (bootleg) copy of Windows XP. My computer was booting up/running fine (although it did have a lost of missing components it was running fine) I recently made some registry changes, a solution to a problem I was trying to fix with my CD Drive. I have a genuine copy of Windows which I am planning to install but I'm having another issue with that.

My problem: Windows boots up, goes through the process of starting XP up (I get through the Windows XP screen where it gives the XP Logo and that blue 3 piece loading bar) next it begins to open the login screen but before that finishes my computer just restarts.

The registry changes that I made were from this thread:
http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/518714-solved-cd-dvd-drive-not.html

After I did that a restarted my computer and this started to happen.

I want to reinstall my genuine copy of Windows XP but my CD drive is not detected and I figured it would be easier to fix that if I could open/run Windows.

Thanks in advance.

If you have a XP CD put that in and boot off of it. You may need to boot into Setup (Bios) go to Boot Priority and move CD rom drive to First Boot Device. You may also be able to change the boot order once by pressing F12.
Get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. Check Disk will go through 5 stages, it may take a while.
