Preferred Solution: User accounts script error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

right I've read through countless threads regarding deleting user accounts on XP but none have the same problem I'm having.

Basically as soon as the window for the user accounts managment thing comes up an error box saying "an error has occurred in the script on this page" and no information is given on any of the lines and does not disappear when you click either yes or no to continue running scripts on this page.

Any help would be mucho appreciated

Now ive run into problems with Getting into User Accounts from the control panel and using system restore. Everytime i try to get into user accounts, it says User Accounts on the top of the box but the box itself is white. Furthermore, it then pops up with a bunch of dialogs saying an internet explorer script error has occured. Then, also recently, i was trying to get into system restore to create a restore point because i was about to make a slight modification to the registry..when i tried to get into it, it also popped up in jus a white box with nothing on it. This happens in both Normal Mode and Safe Mode. The only account that dosen't experience problems is my aunts account, whos the owner of the computer, an im not sure why that is. But anyway, do u have any idea of what i should try to do to fix this issue?(An my computer is a Dell XPS 400 with Windows XP Media Center 2005 Service Pack 2 installed)

A:Problems with User Accounts(Getting internet explorer script error messages)etc

You can try dial-a-fix. Its magical for this kind of problems. Dial-a-fix will put many of your registry entries to Windows default state. You need admin rights for it.

Read carefully first, then download and run it ONLY if you understand clearly what would it do and if you can take all the previous actions suggested.

Good luck!

I just got a second hand computer from an auction, and have installed windows XP home edition and the service pack 2. my father accidentally included 4 user login profiles (the ones that appear when you first turn the computer on) instead of just the 1 for me, so I tried to delete the others. However, when i go to control panel and user accounts, i get a message saying "an error has occurred in the script on this page" and "do you want to continue running scripts on this page?" with a "Yes" and a "No" box underneath. no matter how many times i click on either the yes or no boxes, the message won't go away, and so i cant access my user accounts, and the only way to get rid of the box is to log out or shut down.

Can you please help me get rid of this???

Many thanks,

We currently have a few public computers that anyone of the employees can use while waiting to have thier computer fixed, we have been finding that the Users folder in Vista is getting awefully crowded after a few weeks of this experiment.

We where looking for a way to have a timed script to run on each of these computer at a certain time of day to delete all User accounts on the computer except Public, and our Admin account and shutdown the computers so they would be ready for the next mornings use.

Does anyone have any ideas of how this can be done?

Hey guys,

Let me preface this by saying that I have done some research and have found SIMILAR issues to mine, but not this exact problem.

For Christmas, I upgraded my computer a great deal. New processor, hard drive, RAM, video card, motherboard, DVD drive, power supply, etc. Basically a new machine except the case. Used a utility with my new hard drive to transfer everything over from my old one so there was no need to reinstall XP or anything.

Everything on my account works perfectly. However, my sister's account is having issues. When she clicks on User Accounts, an error message comes up saying an error has occurred in the script on this page, then at the bottom it asks if you want to continue running scripts. The rest of the dialogue box is completely blank. Clicking yes, no, or X does nothing but immediately create a new window with the exact same thing.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix this problem? Thanks for your help.

A:Error in user accounts

When upgrading a computers hardware, the best thing to do i reinstall the operating system, or else problems can occur. Because when you install xp, alot of neccecary drivers and programs installs for just that type of hardware and if you don't, it can accur alot of errors.

In my opinion, you should just reinstall the operating system. Because you can come across more errors.

Recently my mother tried logging onto her username and the computer would not let her. It said something about not being able to find her personal profile. So I logged onto my username, which is the administrator, and tried going into USER ACCOUNTS to find out what was going on. However, when I double clicked on USER ACCOUNTS, this error message popped up:

The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.

I have no idea what this means or how to surpass it. My computer does have its share of problems, however this is very new. If you need any further information to help me, please be very specific for I do not know a whole lot about computers, but I do know some.

Thank you!

Ok so here is the problem..I am brand new to this website and don't know too much about computers and fixing them, but I will try my best to explain this problem as clearly as possible. I am using windows XP Home edition. For the past few weeks, whenever I log into a user account, a bunch of error messages pop up right away. They say, "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022) Click on OK to terminate the application."The first one that pops up says ccApp.exe, then the 2nd one says osCheck.exe and the third one says PIFSvc.exe. When I click on the AOL icon, I am unable to use it because another error pops us that says aol.exe with the same error message as the ones before. The same also happens when I click on the icon for Norton Internet Security and it says uistub.exe. I am unable to use any of these programs. I am aware that uistub.exe , PIFSvc.exe , ccApp.exe , and osCheck.exe are all related to Symantec and Norton but I have no idea how to fix these problems and stop these error messages from popping up. I temporarily fixed the AOL error message by searching for aol.exe on my computer and sending the icon to my desktop to create another shortcut. When I click on that icon, aol loads and works fine. However, I am unable to delete the old AOL icon and the error messages still pop up for the old icon and won't allow AOL to load. I know many of you will tell me to get rid of Norton completely, but I am afraid I won't do that right now, ... Read more

A:Error Messages On Limited User Accounts Only

Yep, I'll tell you to get rid of Norton also BUT it's your choice if you go back to it or not. I believe that your Norton is corrupted and needs to be replaced or fixed. It's your choice - either waste the money on the subscription or waste your time fixing problems like this. We can recommend good, free replacements for the security apps that you're currently using.First, I would uninstall all of the Norton/Symantec stuff on the system using the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel. Then, I would run the Norton Removal Tool (free from here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...005033108162039 ) This is essential to remove all traces of what's likely to be causing the problem. Then you can either reinstall the Norton or you can install the free apps that we recommend. Here's my list of recommended free programs:AntiVirus: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/28415/lng/us/tpl/v5AntiSpyare: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5Firewall: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Sygate_Personal_...Free_d3356.html

I used a program called autoruns.exe to adjust my startup programs so it'll start faster. I'm not sure what I turned off but now
1. It takes longer to start up,
2. I don't see any accounts (not even admin) in Control Panel - User accounts
3. I can access a directory and open files but I can't cut or copy and paste them into another folder.
4. In services.msc, most of the programs under Local with automatic setting don't start and cannot be started. I can't even see the programs under extended.
5. I have a home network but I can't access any of my other computers.
those are a few of laundry list of challenges with my computer (with me ?)
I'm even ready to format and reinstall XP but I need to copy some files before I do that.

I'm surprised that nobody else has this problem, but I've searched and can't find an answer...apologies if I've not looked hard enough but I decided to post a question because this is 'urgent' to me.

I had 2 children's accounts in Win 8, and had local Parental Controls. Upgraded OS to Win 10, and now I can't manage Parental Controls in Win 10 locally, so I 'think' I need to set up 'online Profiles' for them.

However, all their game progress, profile settings, etc are on their local profiles - how can I get all this data to be on their online Profiles? I didn't want to copy and paste folders (such as AppData) without knowing that this was a 'safe' way to do this.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

I have Windows 7 Starter SP1, on a netbook PC.
I normally use an account with Administrator Privileges.
Having started the computer, at the Login screen, Standard user accounts now get an error message, something like:
A USB device or floppy disk must be attached to enable this function.

The Standard User accounts are still shown in:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts\Manage Accounts

Previously, some Windows Updates (particularly Security Rollups) had to be uninstalled and (thus not installed) because, on the second boot up following their installation, the an error message appeared on loading the Desktop
"Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service [sic]. This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system ..."
Removing any such Updates that causing that error message cleared the error, but now without any such warning, it is now not possible on starting the computer to log on to Standard User accounts at the Login screen.

I believe therefore there is high probability the error message at the Login screen for Standard User accounts, has been caused through a Windows Update.

How can I make it possible to once again log on to Standard User accounts, at the Login screen?

And when I use virus programs do they sift for infections through all the users etc?

I have been chasing up an answer to this problem for a couple of weeks now and have found a number of people with same symptoms but no answer which works.

When I go to the User Accouns page the dialog box for the "Choose the Account you would like to change" is blank.

I am an administrator and there are 2 accounts on my notebook - windows 7 professional.

I can view the accounts through the run command, but would like to know why the dialog is empty and what the fix is for this.

I have done a scan for errors - none found.

Done a complete reinstall - Accounts still not visible.

Looking on a variety of forums, this appears to have been happening to XP and Vista prior to Windows 7.

However none of the fixes for XP or Vista work (Some don't even apply).

Does anyone have a solution for this bug?

Hi all

I can't find any mention of my problem on this or any other forum. Or at least I don't think I can... Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my set-up:
Linksys DSL modem, connected to an Apple Airport Extreme wireless router. The modem is configured to be the DHCP server, the Airport is set to bridge mode. I have a new Compaq Presario desktop running Vista Home Basic with a Belkin wireless-G USB dongle. All of this discussion is about wireless, btw - I don't have a long enough CAT-5 cable to connect the Airport and PC.

I have 5 users set up on the PC - 1 true, unlocked administrator account and 4 standard users. When I boot up and connect as any of the 4 standard users they automatically detect and connect to the Airport, and receive IP addresses.

But when I change user to be the administrator the connection drops after a few seconds. The Airport network is visible to Vista, because it is in the list of available networks. But if I try to connect to it it fails, and the Vista diagnostic tool tells me it has been unable to connect 'for unknown reason'. One of the standard users used to have admin rights, and that account had exactly the same problem. If I log in from a boot-up as the administrator I also cannot connect to the network.

If the administrator account has been used and logged out the other users cannot connect to the Airport. I have to re-boot before they can connect again.

I also have a MacBook and a Nokia N95, bo... Read more

Do you have a recovery restore install disc or partition?
You can try doing a repair or system file check...
Scan For Missing/Corrupt System Files...

Windows XP comes with a wonderful tool called System File Checker (SFC)
Itscans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer...
To Do This:
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button.
In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following command:
SFC /scannow
And then click OK
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run SFC..
You will need your Windows XP CD during this procedure if SFC needs to get an original file. Please remember that Windows XP can have multiple instances of a .DLL file and remember which version is for which program.
I have been asked if it is possible to have a "progress meter" show when SFC runs... This is the registry hack you need. PLEASE do not go messing with your registry if you do NOT know what you are doing!

Hi all,

Hoping someone might be able to help. Recently, a few strange things have happened with the PC, which first started when I found I couldn't use the Backup & Recovery software in Windows 7. Whenever I clicked on one of the buttons with a shield, nothing would happen at all. I've looked around and just can't find the solution to this. However, today when trying to fix this, I've come across a new user account in the permissions section. The name is jvactaett - I certainly haven't made this! Does anyone have any ideas how this account has got there, and how I can remove it? It doesn't show in user accounts through Control Panel.

I've put a screenshot as well. To get there, I right clicked a hard drive and went to properties, Security, Add, advanced and then clicked Find Now.

I don't know if the two things above are linked or not...

I am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.

Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.

I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured. I would appreciate any thoughts that anyone has this problem.

I was able to logged in through Safe Mode but still an error flagged in status bar that the profile was not properly loaded.

Although I was able to copy all data from that user account to a new account, can I still troubleshoot the problem and be able to log in using the old user account? I have all my shortcuts and archives there and "every customized thing".

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The other day I went to delete one of my user accounts and found a password protected user by the name of Machine ASP....'s which did not show up when log ging in, only in user accounts. I deleted it as there was no way of accessing the account to see what was in it but was wondering if anyone might know how it could have got there. I have norton internet security, norton antivirus and sygate pro firewall. No one else has had access to the computer either(at least not from my home). Any help appreciated.

A:User Accounts & Fast User Switching

I believe that if the Terminal Service isn't started then fast user switching isn't available. To start the Terminal Service, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools and click on Services. Right click on Terminal Service and select Properties. Make sure the startup type is set to Automatic. Also, see this Microsoft article on fast user switiching.

Hello all,

I have a question. I've been using a batch file to delete users from our computer lab here in campus. That batch file worked beautifully for Win 7, but not sure for win 8.1. We've been having problems with the accounts either not loading correctly, being corrupted, black screens, not getting the GPO. So I am not sure if the delete script is causing any issues.

Below is the batch file:

@echo on
SET rootKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

FOR /F "DELIMS=" %%i in ('DIR "C:\USERS" /B /AD') DO CALL :remove_old_profiles "%%i"
GOTO :eof

SET dirName=%~1

IF /I "%dirName%" EQU "Default" GOTO:eof
IF /I "%dirName%" EQU "Administrator" GOTO:eof
IF /I "%dirName%" EQU "administrator.CLCSEC4-134569" GOTO:eof
IF /I "%dirName%" EQU "Default User" GOTO:eof
IF /I "%dirName%" EQU "Public" GOTO:eof
IF /I "%dirName%" EQU "All Users" GOTO:eof
IF /I "%dirName%" EQU "%USERNAME%" (

I am trying to run the script from here:

Script to parse .txt & move Computer Accounts to different OU

I am getting the same error the user was getting in the OP, but he does not give the answer how it was fixed. I'd like to find out if anyone knows how to get rid of that error.

Hello all -- I was reading an article about managing passwords in XP and followed its' instructions.
I went to Start/Run and entered "control userpasswords" at that time the 3 accounts that I have put
on the computer showed, along with another that I did not knowingly authourize or even know about.
The suspicious account is a limited account -- password protected and has the title "ASP.NET Machine A..."
(thats exactly what it says). asp.net seems to be a microsoft sponsored site -- I guess.
My concern is that I have recently had and removed spyware from this pc and I did not knowingly authorize this account nor have I heard of ASP.NET prior to this. I really want to delete this account but I am more courious as to how it got there. I am your everyday home pc user with limited knowledge of much more that the color of my computer. Please advise. Thank you.
Oh yeah -- the ASP account only shows when I go to the start/run and access user accounts that way -- to access user accounts through control panel does not show the asp.net account.
thank you

ASP.net is put there by Microsoft when you installed the .NET thru Windows Update. Not to worry.

I'm getting this error message.
I did a google search and found this: You receive a "The User Profile Service failed the logon
But did not help me. I also did a search here and found a few topics with this error message though they didn't solve my problem either, because mine problem seems to be different.

I can login to existing accounts. But I can't login to new ones.
So when I go to the registry editor there's no folder for the new accounts. They just don't exist at all. Only the existing ones.
I create a new user account at the Users menu in Control panel and they show up at login screen. When I click them, it starts the waiting icon saying "Logging in" then after a few seconds, this error message pops up. I can click OK and then it says "logging off" and goes back to the login screen.
I do have access to an administrator account and a standard account, I can log in to both

I don't have any system restore points before this started happening. i'm using ESET Smart Security as my antivirus but I don't think it's causing the problem, I uninstalled it and it didn't work then either so I reinstalled it back.
Please help me what could be wrong?

I'm currently trying to use my LG Rumor 2 to act as a modem for a dialup connection with my bluetooth capable computer. Everything is working great but my university, which I'm trying to connect to, requires a ppp script setup and I need to use the terminal window. So the computer dials correctly and everything works but when the terminal window appears I can't type anything although the text field appears for the username. Also, within a few seconds of the terminal window appearing I get the error "The Script has Halted." I can however right click and paste in text (but i don't know if that's relevant). Here is what I see:

Any suggestions?

Hi I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I can make it so that when i turn on my computer, it doesn't ask me for a username or password? I recently got a new computer, and my old one had XP on it like this one, but i didn;t need to have a username or password. On this one, my username is already there and I don't have to type a password I can just click ok, but there must be a way for me to turn my machine on without going through this part.

You can also do it with the XP PowerToy TweakUI.

I have a Windows XP and I am (obviously) having trouble. Before, I had three accounts set up on the laptop, two days ago I checked and two were admin. and one was limited. However, since yesterday, it has been asking for a password to enter my main account. I thought nothing of it until I had to access one of the other accounts. I logged off and it wouldnt take me to the Welcome screen. When I checked under USER ACCOUNTS in the CONTROL PANEL it only showed that account and said it was limited, so pretty much I only have one account on my computer and cant add the other ones back on because this one somehow got set to limited. I don't know how any of this happened but how do I fix this so that I can add another account?

A:HELP! User accounts

Have you tried restarting into safe mode (tap F8 on bootup) and using the default Administrator account, which either shouldn't have a password or will have the one you set when installing?

I'd also take a look under Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management> Local Users and Groups>Users. see whats listed there.

Also check Control Panel>System>Advanced>User Profiles and C:\Documents and Settings

Anyway let us know how you get on.
