Thinkpad X270 - Synaptics WBDI Fingerprint Scanner Stopped Working

Q: Thinkpad X270 - Synaptics WBDI Fingerprint Scanner Stopped Working

A couple of days back, after a windows update, the fingerprint scanner on my Thinkpad X270 has stopped working. Initially, in Device Manager, it displayed the following: "This device cannot start (Code 10)" But after I tried to update the drivers, it now displays: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful." Any ideas what I can do to fix it? It's as if it just suddenly stopped working overnight.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So lenovo replaced my motherboard because of a defect HDMI port. The HDMI works, but now my fingerprint reader isn't responding. When trying to add or remove fingerprints in win10 settings... nothing happens. In form of no windows or program starts. No error in device manager, and Synaptics WBDI (SGX enabled) has no errors. Fingerprint reader is enabled in bios. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. No effect... A:X1 Yoga fingerprint reader (Synaptics WBDI) stopped working after repair / motherboard replacement

Okey!  Few rounds around the Internet got me absolutely nowhere. Lenovo said that it was a known problem and the only way to fix it is to do a factory reset.... BULLS** is my response to that. Anything software related can be fixed without nuking your system. So i refused to give up and with a bit of trial and error i found a way. You have to tie your Microsoft account to a pin AGAIN! Even if you already had one. I guess the account is tied to your hardware somehow. Here are simple steps to fix it:  1. Make shure to Activate and Resett fingerprint reader in the BIOS Reboot and enter the BIOS (f1 during boot) Go to Security > fingerprint Make sure Predesktop Authentication is [Enabled]And to to "Reset Fingerprint Data" and press [Enter] to reset Save and exit   2. Make shure drivers are up to date and working Run Lenovo Vantage (windows store) to make sure your running the latest drivers for everything including the fingerprint reader. You can also download the drivers directly form Lenovos product support page, but Vantage actually works (so Kudos to Lenovo for that one). After that check you device manager if the driver is running currently. Like this: (Start menu > type "device manager")Like this... You don't want the yellow triangle warning or (SGX disabled)If you got a yellow triangle or (SGX disabled).. Then uninstall the ... Read more

Hi, I have the Lenovo Yoga 720 15 IKB 80X7 (4K display), since many days ago, I'm currently posting this on 7-20-2017, the fingerprint of my laptop stopped working so now In the windows hello sign in menu it shows a message in which it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device", the fingerprint option doesn't appear there anymore. When I check the issue on the "update device drivers menu" an exclamation mark appears next to the synaptics drivers WBDI, in the section of biometric devices. When I click on it to see more information it appears this message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful." I show you in the picture the information I get in the driver tab. I do not have the option to roll back the driver so I can't make it work again. I checked and it is the last driver available so far but it doesn't work. By the way I have the same exclamation mark and the same message of error in the driver "system interface foundation driver", code 31..., is there any link with it?I've already re installed windows twice through the option "reset this pc" from the configuration menu, one without deleting my files and the other removing all, but I still had the same issue with the fingerprint reader since the beginning of the new start, it didn't work. Does anybody have the same issue and a solution? Thanks in advance

HiI recently applied the Windows 10 April update to my x270. Everything worked okay however Windows Hello and the fingerprint reader no longer work. I have checked the Biometric settings in device manager and the Synaptics WBDI (SGX enabled) device is showing the following status"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful". I have checked everything is enabled in the Bios and also uninstalled and resinstalled the device from Lenovo. Has anyone else experienced this issue. Is it a driver incompatability with updated windows 10?Is there an updated driver somewhere please? Thanks in advance

I tried doing a search but came up with nothing. The fingerprint scanner on my P50 just stopped working last week. No changes were made by me. In device manager there is an exclamation under Biometric devices/Synaptics WBDI. I tried disabling/reenabling and also tried uninstalling that and re-installing the Synaptics drivers from the support page but nothing is helping. I'm working on a project right now so don't have the time to do a Windows 10 re-install or contact support and inevitably ship this computer in for repair....so I thought I'd ask and see if anyone was experiencing this lately and if there was a simple fix (assuming the hardware just didn't fail suddenly). Thanks

Hello,Today I updated my Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen with the latest drivers recommended by Lenovo Vantage program, as well as the latest Windows 10 Pro updates. After conducting those updates, I can no longer sign in using the Fingerprint sensor. When I open the Device Manager to check the status of the Biometric Device driver, it shows the following message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"The sign in option using the fingerprint does not even show up in the Windows settings for Sign In. Things I have already tried:1) Update the driver through the Device Manager 2) Download and reinstall the fingerpring driver from the Lenovo drivers website3) Reset fingerprint settings in the BIOS and making sure it is enabled4) Change configuration in "gpedit.msc" -> computer configuration -> administrative templates -> windows components -> biometrics -> allow the use of biometrics and allow users to log on using biometrics set to enabled None of the 4 attempts above solved the problem. Can anyone please provide any solution for this case? It looks like a lot of people have been experiencing this issue and no one from Lenovo provided a clear and definitive solution. The latest drivers must have bugs and, in my opinion, Lenovo must stop distributing them until this issue is fixed. Thank you very much.Best.

I wasn't sure if this was the place for this but here goes.

when using the fingerprint scanner on a network with pasword changes every 90days, does the fingerprint scanner on a lenovo laptop synch properly with a newly updated password? I have a user here who changed the password but the fingerprint scanner did not seem to recognize the change since when you first set it up it asks for your current password. Once setup correctly all you have to do is scan your fingerprint and it logs you in.

Any info would be great.

With the pc booted and fully working, the installed fingerprint reader functions corretly. If I shutdown the notebook and I restart it, it still functions and I can unlock / login using the fingerprint. If I reboot manually or if the system reboots for example because of updates are installed, the fingerprint stop working. So I need to reinstall the driver using the "repair driver" feature.

I'm using a fairly new X270 (about two months old) with Windows 10, machine type 20HNCTO1WW.  Yesterday, as far as I could tell, my Bluetooth suddenly stopped working.  By "as far as I can tell", I mean that my only reason for using Bluetooth is an audio receiver connected to my stereo; so I don't have any other devices to check it with.  (Before I go any further, I'll add that the receiver still works fine with my three-year-old Yoga.) Basically, my music stopped playing.  I tried restarting my computer and reconnecting to the device.  In nearly every instance, my X270 was unable to reconnect with the receiver.  In the two or three instances when it did reconnect, it played music briefly--no more than thirty seconds--and then abruptly stopped. The only thing out-of-the-ordinary going on during this time was that within a few minutes of the problem's appearance I got a notice from Lenovo Update stating that an update was ready.  Lenovo Companion shows that it installed - Intel Management Engine 11.8 Firmware - 7 [32,64]/8.1/10 [64] - V. Intel 8265 Wireless LAN Driver - 10 [64] - V. As for how far along these updates were when they were announced, who knows?  The process by which Windows alerts me of its updates is still a bit opaque to me (I haven't had too much time to investigate it yet), and I'm not sure how far that might extend to Lenovo's updates. Anyway, if anyone has any insight or ... Yesterday my touchpad was suddenly turned on and I tried to disable it with the settings I always used (configuration screen) However, when i tried to open the control zone for it, it told me it couldn't connect to the driver. I decide to try and reinstall the driver, but it said another driver was already on my computer. I could delete it within the program files on the configuration screen, but there was nothing. So I couldn't deinstall it at all. Its really annoying because I never use my touchpad and my hand keeps brushing over it, so my mouse or text keeps going away.  Please I would like a solution. I can add files to what my screen keeps saying; but it's all in dutch. (Also my smart connect technology keeps flashing a yellow triangle and I have no idea what I have to do against that)

I have a problem with the login process for Windows. A while ago (nearly a year now) I installed a USB fingerprint reader and this worked fine for a while when all of a sudden it appeared to stop working on the login page. It turns out that if I scan my fingerprint within the first 2 seconds of the login page appearing then Windows recognizes the device and allows me to log in using biometrics, if I try after the 2 seconds then it doesn't work and I have to use a password. I really don't understand, the device is recognized, working properly and even if it doesn't work for logging in then I can still access biometric settings and everything as if it was completely fine.

I'm presuming that this is a driver conflict somewhere that during the loading process something happens after 2 seconds that prevents the fingerprint reader from operating correctly but how do I find out what?!?!?!

Does anybody have a clue how to get the fingerprint scanner to actually work ? - in all the time I`ve had this laptop  it`s NEVER really functioned  properly. 1. It keeps  losing its registry settings  - & I  find myself constantly having to uninstall it and scan  for thedevice again  just to get it to even light up. 2. it point blank refuses to take a fingerprint scan, - according to it , the sensor is either too dirty , I`m moving my finger too fast  or  using the "wrong" stroke when  scanning. if its such a unreliable  device - why  even include it in this  otherwise excellent laptop? - I have no issues with the actual machine itself,  other than its  running the awful windows 8.1 operating system  - which I find is bugged beyond belief- I`d really much have preferred to buy this  laptop with windows 7  on it but thats  another story entirely...sigh. Back to the fingerprint scanner - has ANYONE got it to work?

Dear Lenovo forum, Is this working as intended? I have my computer set to sleep automatically when I close the lid. For example, I go to bed, close the lid, I wake up open the lid and it prompts me to use the fingerprint scanner or to type in the password manually. So I roll / put my finger that is recognized by  the scanner to try and log in, and 9/10 times it does not work. Instead I have to type in my password. But this defeats the whole purpose of me getting the T460p with the fingerprint scanner. The only way it works is if I start it up from sleep, type in my password, then close the lid again, slide/ roll my finger then it works and recognizes my fingerprint. How do I fix this ?? Thanks, P

Fingerprint scanner for HP Pavilion dv6-6047cl laptop (Windows 7) was still working after install of Windows 10, but then stopped working when Smart Friends initiated a clean install of Windows 10 to fix Office (which was acting wonky). I have downloaded and installed various drivers, including those on HP website associated with my laptop model,  the lenovo driver, and the driver HP Tech Support told me was the specific driver for my laptop (Validity Sensor -- sp53369). Nothing seems to work.  Do I need to download software (Digital Persona) for it to work?  Because the tech at HP TECH Support said that the scanner would work with Windows 10 if I installed the correct driver.  I contacted HP Smart Friends and told them all this, thinking that they might no what to do next.  But the tech just mucked around for over an hour re-dowloading the same drivers I already had and a third-party software called Software Informer that I really did not want on my laptop.  In the end the tech told me that the drivers were incompatible with Windows 10 and there was nothing more he could do.  But I not very confident that the tech knew what he was doing.    Is this hopeless as HP Smart Friends would have me believe?

A:Fingerprint Scanner not working - VERY CONFUSED!

Fear not, there is always hope. Had a similar situation with an EliteBook 2560p. After playing around with several ways and configurations, I was able to make the fingerprint sensor work with Windows Hello to log on to the machine via finger print. Do not ask me WHY it works, but this is the way the installation does work (for this machine) and as I have an image of the drive of the state before it worked, I was able to repeat the process to make sure this (and only this) is the way it works. You will need the Lenovo driver https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/l67y44a0.exe and the HP driver package http://whp-aus2.cold.extweb.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58900.exe Please be aware that you are proceeding at your own risk. If your configuration is screwed after this, its not on my account. 1. Unistall all the current Validity and Lenovo packages2. In Device Manager remove the current Fingerprint driver AND delete it.3. W/o a reboot install the Lenovo package l67y44a0 (Synaptics WBF DDK 5011 (Advanced)4. Reboot5. Install the HP package sp58900 (Valdity WBF DDK)6. Reboot7. In Device Manager (whatever it shows there, even if it loooks good!) , update the driver for the reader by "Browse my computer for driver software" and "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". There should be only one driver to pick, called "Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=003c)" which might differ for you. Step 7 should bring the Fingerprint reader online. If... Read more

I have a new Acer Aspire 1670 laptop which has worked fine for the past few weeks. However, I turned it on this morning (it worked fine last night) to find that my touchpad no longer works.

I don't feel this is a hardware issue in the sense that the touchpad has become unplugged from the internal PS/2 port, because the touchpad works for about 3-4 seconds after I log onto Windows/when the desktop loads up. That's the only time it works, it doesn't even work at the welcome/logon screen.

After those 3-4 seconds, something obviously happens that's preventing it from working.

I thought it might be my Wacom Graphire II graphics tablet, which is plugged in via USB 2. However, my touchpad and tablet have worked fine together for the past few weeks and have never caused any problems.

I unplugged the tablet, and uninstalled the tablet and touchpad drivers. I then rebooted, and - navigating around with the keyboard - reinstalled the touchpad drivers and rebooted. It still won't work.

Any ideas?

Two things:

1. Does the touchpad have an indicator light that shows you when it is activated? The one on my HP does.

A few days ago I was on my Tecra R940 and I got series of messages re., a disconnected USB device. I didn't think much of it at the time, but since then my fingerprint scanner has stopped working.

I can't login via fingerprint scan, and when I run the Fingerprint Utility, it says, "Failed to connect to the sensor".

I've run the Toshiba PC diagnostic test tool and it passed everything except the Modem test (I skipped, don't have a telephone line).

Any ideas on how to diagnose this?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Recently bought a brand new Yoga 920. Fingerprint scanner worked perfectly for about a week, then suddenly stopped working. I googled some solutions and have found that if I restart the computer or uninstall/re-install the fingerprint scanner device in Device Manager then it will temporarily work again, but usually only for the next sign-in attempt. Very annoying - are there any more permanent solutions?
