I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The AVG on my Dell thinks the Virus database is out of date even though it has the most current update?

How can I change the date back and what might have caused this to happen in the first place. I've heard of some AVG update problem but didn't find much relevant information on it.

Any suggestion or links would be great.

Hello ... I have a flash drive attached to my Netgear wireless router that I make backups to and transfer files to and from other computers at home. It was formatted as NTFS and set up in the router about 2 weeks ago. I just noticed yesterday that all the folders in the drive have dates of 2003 -- even new folders I created today. The files inside all seem to be fine, with correct dates.

I am positive the drive did not start out this way. It was functioning normally. Does anyone know what could have caused these weird folder dates and how to prevent this from happening in the future? Is there any way to fix this? Could the backup program I am using be causing this problem? It is Syncback and it is doing automated backups to this drive.

The computer I am using is a new Asus T300 Chi with Windows 8.1.

Any ideas? I am stumped.

A:Folders on a network attached drive show wrong date

It probably isn't the drive but the Router. You may have to enter the Router setup while connected via Ethernet cable and check the date. Check the documentation for the address to use in your browser, something along the line of, the last two numbers will vary between brands and maybe between models.

I have some computers I'm currently just managing updates with Windows Update.  A computer will appear to be 'up to date' on patching.  However, if I run something like `wmic qfe list` or `Get-Hotfix` and I get a list of the patches installed
on the computer I will find that of the 9 or so listed for that windows build and time range in the Security Update Guide, only 1 or 2 will actually be installed.  I'm struggling to answer for compliance how I know all the patches that should be installed,
are installed, when the one source I've found for available patches seems to show I'm not up to date, but Windows Update seems to think I am up to date.  Thanks for the help.

Just spent a number of hours trying to resolve a problem with Windows Messenger where my wifes computer reported that the .net Windows Messenger Service was temporily unavailable when she tried to login . Deciding to resort to a roll back of Windows I noticed that the PCs clock was a month out, July instead of August. Correcting the date corrected the problem.

Looks like Windows Messenger needs the PC to have the correct date before it will log in. Is this normal for messenging services? A sensible error message would be helpful.

I use the search box in the top LH corner of an Explorer window to search for files modified on a certain date.

For example, I searched for files modified in My Documents on the current day's date .....29th October at the time. There is a file I KNOW has been modified because I have been working on it all day. The search returns 3 files, but not the one in question. I then search for files modified the day before, 28th October, and it turns up on the list, at the right it gives the date as 28th October. I right click on the file, choose file properties, and it shows date modified 29th October, last modified 5 minutes ago.

Today, 30th October, I check again, and again it doesn't appear on the list of files modified 29th October (I haven't worked on it yet today). It still shows up if I search for files on 28th October, and again the file properties box shows date modified 29th October.

Yet some other days it shows up on the current day's search correctly.

Both the file type (Word Doc) and location are included in the index for searching, and the index is shown as being complete when I do the search.

What is causing this hit and miss behaviour?

i was away for the weekend and when i got back my computer started switching itself off... just turning off. no warning/no beeping.

i thought it could be over heating - its running hot when doing (edit) CPU intensive things but im sorting the fans out at the weekend - its running ok without turning off now that the side is off.

since this started happening when i turn on, or restart the computer the date is wrong. it is always 2 years wrong.

the date(day/month) is correct so is the time but the year is 2005 not 2007

i have already
-replaced the battery on the motherboard
- problems still happen, date is wrong at startup.
ive checked the cmos date and set it correct when i replaced the battery,

cmos date time is correct at start up just wrong when i get in to windows.

anyone have any ideas what could cause that? as i haven't got a clue. im not useless with computers so any other details that might be needed could be given.

This is my son's computer. I mention this as it is a fairly unfamiliar machine to me. It is a Dell Latitude D620 running Windows XP Home SP3 with an Intel T2300 @ 1.66GHz and 0.99 GB of RAM (odd number, yes?). He's been having trouble with his media player recognizing his DVDRW drive, it is also extremely slow and for some reason Windows keeps saying his avast! is probably out of date. I've run the avast! virus scanner, also Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware free version, we have Spyblaster installed, and I've run CCleaner. These have picked up nothing out of the ordinary that doesn't appear under regular maintenance and I've taken care of those. Still, the problems persist.

The most pressing is the DVDRW problem. A week ago it worked. When a DVD is placed in the drive now and Windows Media comes up it gives a pop-up window that states: "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings." I have tried adjusting the display settings every possible way and even clicked the web help on that pop-up to try and resolve this to no avail. You have helped me so much in the past with problems on my machine I am hoping you can solve this dilemma as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. So i recently build my brother a PC for Christmas and i have installed windows 7 pro on it. its working fine and dandy however when i try to run the next lot of windows updates it tells me that i am up to date, when i know that I'm not. I have run 3 round of windows update and installed something close to 300 updates and not one has failed but when i try to update the next lot it wont let me. I know that i need to update from previous experience and it is still in the original UI from early service pack 1 (it changes slightly with one of the updates) which allows the task bar to be colour customisable. I have run the trouble shooter and everything was fixed and the only error I got was the 0x80070005 error. But i still can't update. Anyone know what it going on here? I've also ran the update readiness tool, and reset the windows update components which didn't work either.

Several times tonight I've gotten the following message from Windows Security Center:
Virus Protectiion Out Of Date

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security reports that it might be out of date. Click Recommendations for suggested actions you can take.

Yet when I click on my PC-cillin Internet Security icon I get a message informing me that my antivirus settings meet recommended levels, so I figure I should be protected. However, whenever I click on PC-cillin's Update Components, I get this message:

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security

An error occurred while connecting to the Internet. Please make sure your Internet connection is properly functioning and try again.

It doesn't make sense to me that I should be getting these error messages. I have more than a year left on my PC-cillin subscription, so it definitely should not be out-of-date. Also, I am already online and able to check e-mail and surf when I get the message telling me that an error occurred while connecting to the Internet and that I should make sure my Internet connection is properly functioning.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who is able to tell my why I am suddenly getting these inappropriate error messages. Thank you very much.

When viewing the software downloads page, all of the update dates are newer than the release dates.  And they are all very close to current date (Jun 20).  Running the HP tool doesn't show any update is needed.  So I'm puzzled. Are all these drivers/patches really out of date or is the earlier release date still the correct one.  Surprised that every available update shows close to current date.

A:Update Date does not Match Release Date

Hi: The date you see next to the actual driver exe file is the correct driver date. The 'update' date you see is because HP redesigned the website and had to upload many of the drivers again.

I was talking with my friend and she told me to up update my laptop to the the Anniversary update. But, when I go into my update settings, it tells me that Windows is up to date, and I can confirm that I don't already have the Anniversary update. I did perform the "check for updates" option but it still came with the same result.

I tried searching online but there was no luck. Hoping an expert could help me solve why my laptop is not letting be update.

A:Windows is up to date, but I don't have the Anniversary Update

I think Microsoft were gradually upgrading computers in phases, rather than all at once, so perhaps they haven't enabled yours yet. That said, they were supposed to be doing new hardware, and I notice my really old laptop (upgraded all the way from XP bit-by-bit) updated itself when I switched it on this week.

You can force it to upgrade if you like - see this tutorial: Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation
Step 4 links to the Microsoft website which contains a link to start the upgrade; alternatively you can download the ISO installer using later steps in that tutorial.

A word of caution - if Microsoft haven't enabled your machine yet, there may be good reason.
If you want to upgrade yourself I would take the opportunity to make a backup image (I use Macrium Reflect but other tools are available) before starting an upgrade.

You should still be getting security patches and updates and if I'm honest there isn't much in the Anniversary Update which makes it a 'must have' for me, so the other option is to wait a little longer.

Hello. So, my laptop runs Windows Vista and I have Verizon DSL for Internet connection. I use Verizon Internet Security Suite (VISS) for antivirus and all that stuff. Now I have an icon in the task bar that takes me to Windows Security Alerts, which under Malware, says that "VISS reports that antivirus protection is out of date. Update now." I keep clicking Update Now and it takes me to VISS and then a popup window comes up which says "We detected no Internet connection. You must be connected to the Internet..."

I'm confused???? VISS has not "updated definitions" in a long time. Whenever I turned my computer on, a little window would say "VISS is updating such and such definitions now."

How do I fix this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you would like the date in the System Tray along with the time, right-click on the Taskbar (ensure that Lock the Taskbar is deselected) then drag the top edge of the Taskbar upward until it snaps to twice its normal height. The clock displays three lines rather than one, showing the current time, the day of the week, and the current date.

A:Outlook uses wrong date

Most likely, your user has dd MMMM yyyy set as the date format under Start-Settings-Control Panel-Regional Settings, Date tab. Whether it's his short or long date, I'm not sure. Generally, here in the US, they would be mm/dd/yyyy and can be selected from the dropdown or the appropriate format typed in, such as I had to do to duplicate the behavior on the short date field.

In EXCEL (Office 2002) Is there a way to have a header that is auto matically updated to show the date the file was last edited(changed) ? . It should do this each time the file is edited(changed). Then when the file (.XLS) is emailed to someone and they print it, The last "edit(changed)" date will show .Currently the local date the file is printed is showing.
Manually editing the header is forgotten at busy times.
