Looking for Write Protect Screw Yoga 11e 3rd Gen Chromebook

Q: Looking for Write Protect Screw Yoga 11e 3rd Gen Chromebook

Hi, I'm looking for the write protect screw on the Lenovo Yoga 11e 3rd Generation Chromebook. I cannot remove the Keyboard Bezel, so I wanted to ask, is this screw that is next to the M2x4, and above this chip, the Write-Protect Screw? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Wondering how many are still seeing this issue.  This thread explained the problem, and even provided some helpful information to resolve.
Unfortunately, Dell does not appear to have contributed to solving the issue.
We have a Chrome book 11 that we purchased 2 years ago, in the back are 7 screws to hold the case together.  The center 3 screws are still there, but the 4 in the corners are all gone.  The chrome book itself seems to be working fine, but worrying about the screws I started looking for the size needed and found this apparently was a wide spread issue.  And No indication Dell had really tried to resolve it.  After a round with customer service on the issue, they claimed we were not in their database and recommended we go to a PC store for the fix.  What a joke.  We have had several Dells over the years, been good machines, but they seem to have slipped with respect to customer service.

I don't have any kind of burning software, and am forced to rely on Windows XP's built in Write-to-CD software. The problem is, even with a rewritable CD drive, re-writable DVD drive, and re-writable CD's and DVD's, any material I put on them with the built in Windows XP writing software, becomes write-protected, making it impossible not only to remove the material at a later date, but also to add anything to it. A CD can have over 675 mb of free space that is absolutely inaccessible because of this problem.

Is there any way to reformat these CD's or otherwise remove the write-protect on them? Some of the data on these CD's is not the kind I'd like anyone else to see, meaning that if they are absolutely absolutely ***ABSOLUTELY*** untouchable forever and ever and ever, I would be forced to destroy them altogether (likely breaking them in half or something) and dispose of them as trash (environmentally unsound or not) rather than submit them to a recycling center and risk some noseybody reading what's on them before recycling them.

A:Windows XP Write-to-CD: Write-Protect blues

All CD's are read-only and the contents cannot be changed. Some use packet-writing, but those only erase the previous version and write a new one, so they can't be changed, either. Space is less and gets used quickly.

The best way to have read/write access to data is to use an external USB drive or thumb drive.

It is best to stick with the standard ISO format. Save all your changes to a folder untill you are ready to burn the final copies to CD.

Hello,I tried to make my chromebook into a Linux machine - but I fear that will not happen. I went through the entire process of removing the keyboard etc, and finally moved the switch. However, upon pressing the power button......nothing. Nothing with just the battery, nothing with just AC power, nothing at all. Can anyone point me in the right direction? is there something I missed? Or is this perfectly good laptop just dead weight now? Thanks.

I need to remove write-protect on a partition of HD. The HD is divided into 2 partitions, 50 gigs with OS and programs; 450 with video editing. I had attempted (stupidly in middle of complex project) to enlarge the OS partition to add more software, using Partition Magic. Process failed, leaving the video editing partition dismounted. Remounted and named with same drive letter using Find and Mount. However now the partition is write-protected and I can't work in the video editing program (Premiere CS3). I need to get the disk or the partition to no longer have write-protection so I may proceed. Any information welcomed.

A:write protect on HD

Since you are running XP Pro, you should be able to right-click the partitioned HD, "Properties">"Security" and take ownership of the HD. Give yourself (as Administrator) "Full Control", then under "Advanced">"Permissions", tick the box "Replace Permissions Entries on All Child Objects..." which should give you (as Administrator) full control of the HD. (Otherwise you will only have Full Control over those "objects" that do not have "inherited" permissions from other Users (such as System, etc...) which may prevent you from accessing the objects (files). The inherited permissions part is the difficult part to understand and work with (and around).

I am hoping that this partition is a data-only drive, and that you are not trying to execute programs from it, as changing the permissions in this way could have some unpredictable effect on how the applications run.

One of the screws fell out of the back of my yoga pro and lenovo's absolutely WORTHLESS website is of absolutely NO VALUE in assisting!  The "support center" poput won't connect. The "find service provider" popup won't connect. Would it really be all that difficult to simply list the providers by state on a SIMPLE webpage somewhere? I also need whatever weird screwdriver is required -- is there something wrong with a phillips head screw? Does Lenovo enjoy making more complicated than it already is?

Hello, my Yoga 2 Pro has a missing screw . In addition to that the screw next to the power connector is very loose. Where can I order some new screws to fix those issues? Thanks,Michale

A:Yoga Pro 2 - screw replacments

Laptop LaptopScrews.com sells the screws that you need, but you need to first locate the part that is loose in the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro 13 inch Display Hardware Maintenance Manual and note the type, size and style of the screw needed, since the lengths do vary from 1.7mm to 5mm, and putting a long screw into a hole needing a shorter screw could damage the motherboard or other components. Starting on page 32 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual, it shows the steps to disassemble the laptop, and the size of screws needed for each part (e.g. M2 5 mm, flat-head screws for the back cover).    Laptop screws also has a guide for measuring them should you need to, and if you have questions, you can contact them directly if needed. Good luck,  http://www.laptopscrews.com/https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_yoga_2_pro_hmm.pdf

Adobe charge over 100 for their Adobe Acrobat X Standard software and given I don't want to protect that many docs that is too expensive. How can I write protect a pdf via CutePDF for free or certainly a lot cheaper? Or is there is another free download of pdf writing software that is available that does this?

Does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement screw set?  I have to replace my LCD assembly and they made the screw for the WLAN so tight I've now stripped it.  I checked the parts list on the Lenovo site by putting my serial number in, but it doesn't seem to be on the parts list.  I know I ordered a complete set of screws for my old Lenovo SL500 when I had to replace the right hinge.  I thought it was directly from them, but now I'm not so sure.  Thanks!

OK, so I've been an owner of the Best Buy Special (the Yoga 2 Pro with 256 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM, and i7 CPU) since last November, and the system died on me once a few months back.  Fine, I send into Lenovo for repair and they got it back to me pretty quickly.  Soon after getting it back, one, then two screws on the bottom side of the laptop fall out, and others look like they're precariously close to doing the same.  At the time I didn't even have an idea of what screwhead these were (now I know they're Torx), but I was missing 1 out of the 2 that fell out.  I called Lenovo to ask if they had an extra screw to send me and unbelievably, they told me the only way this could be resolved was to send it back to them.  I went to my local Best Buy's Geek Squad, and they said they didn't have any screws or means of screwing in the one I still had (so what do they do exactly?)Finally, I gave in and sent it back to Lenovo for another week's turnaround time to replace two lousy little screws.  Well, it's happened again in the last week, and I do not know when or where it fell out, but I sure as hell don't plan on losing my computer for another week's time over a screw.  So does anyone know where I can locate the world's smallest Torx screw?  The service manual is of little help in identifying it, in fact I think it's completely off because it says it's a Philips or flathead (can't remember, but it was wrong) and nylon-coated; and even if I did know ho... Hi there

I have tried many tools inlcuding disk management format, low level format but I failed to recover my mini SD card and other solution anyone have here please tell me and do remember there is not any kind of switch for write protection I think its the virus who coded the MBR for write protection.

A:mini SD write protect error

If you are using it in a larger SD card adapter, try a different one.

But those cards do not last very long. It is possible that it has simply failed. It is also common with those small ones for them not to make complete connections. Try using a different adapter, too.

If you use the HP USB Disk Format Tool on it, even though it doesn't say so, the tool removes the partition on the drive and creates a new one before formatting. Though an MBR lock like you mention is not likely the problem, that tool will replace it.

Or try SDFormatter. You will need to install a driver from Microsoft to format the larger capacity cards like the 128 GB and 256 GB ones - SDXC exFAT.

Hi,

I'm a newbie here and also new to Windows programming.

I want to keep a program from storing a value in its registry key. The other values of this key are needed to store necessary program options, so I can't bar write access to the key completely. The key is in the Current User hive.

With regedit or the RegSetKeySecurity and SetNamedSecurityInfo functions I seem to be able to assign permissions only to the key as a whole, but not to its individual components.

Is there any way to protect a single value?

I'm using XP professional, but I'll have to install this program on other versions as well, so any help will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hello,

I have been beating myself up trying to create a bootable CD that will map a network drive using MS networking. I have done it before, but that was 5 or so years ago and my memory is not as good as it used to be.

Here is the issue:

I build a TCP/IP network floppy based on either MS or PC Dos. I burn the CD using an image of the floppy for the boot.ini. When the CD boots everything loads fine until it encounters tcptsr. At that point I encounter a "Write Protect Error Writing Drive A:". Does anyone know a way around this issue? It seems that there is a setting (as I have succeeded before), but I cannot locate it. I have built similar CDs for Norton Ghost, but Ghost seems to have built-in TCP/IP.

Any help will be appreciated!

I recently upgraded from Vista 32-bit to Vista 64-bit. I did this reformatting my C drive then performing a clean install of Vista 64-bit. I now have a problem with my volume(s) becoming write protected. I have to fight a constant battle against Vista to keep the volumes writeable.

I have two drives:
WD SE16 640GB: Primary or C drive
Samsung T166 500GB: Secondary or D drive (used mostly for storing downloads, music, video etc.)

Under Disk Management, both my drives alternate between being shown as "Online" and "Write protected": They can be shown as Online and then seconds later I hit F5 and both drives are suddenly write protected. Then I hit F5 again and they're "Online". Sometimes one of the drives is "Online" while the other is "Write protected". It's like a lottery, every time I refresh, the drives show a different status. It's like they're rapidly and constantly changing status.

My C drive always remains writeable despite this. I don't know why - maybe it's because the drive is in use by the paging file and windows system files so the change cannot be applied.

My D: drive on the other hand will write protect itself shortly after I have booted the machine. When I try to rename, copy or delete files I just get a Windows message saying the drive is write protected and I should remove the write protection or use another drive. When this happens I run Diskpart, and the command "Attributes volume clear readonly&qu... Read more

A:Disabling Write protect on my drives?

If any of your dynamic drives has become read-only you can use diskpart to clear the readonly flag. Check the MS support article on the utility

A Description of the Diskpart Command-Line Utility

In sort, you launch diskpart from the command line, do a "list volume", then "select volume X" where X is the read-only volume and finally "attribute volume clear readonly".

Note that the volume has probably become read-only for a reason and this won't fix the problem. And you can not clear the readonly flag on XP unfortunately.

That feature has not been around for a long time. The only way to do it is by setting the Security permissions for the drive, which can always be circumvented with Linux.
