Internet explorer 11 W7 reset default home page to a MSN page.

Q: Internet explorer 11 W7 reset default home page to a MSN page.

We have a domain environment with the roughly 300 computers. Almost all the computers are Windows 7 and we have has the default home page define my GPO for years.

July 2017 we had about 50 Computers change the default homepage that points to a Microsoft link that redirects to a msn page. The msn page is no longer a valid page. I cannot find a pattern between the computers, The policies are
still apply and it just does not reset the default webpage for the user profile. If you reset the Internet explorer settings everything works as normal and he gets the policy homepage.

I ruled out malware with multiple tools could find nothing to suggest it had been hijacked.

If I log into a different user account on the same computer that user account does not have the same problem. My Theory was a old Microsoft patch some how did this, but I could not find a patch that had ran on the affected PC's.

Preferred Solution: Internet explorer 11 W7 reset default home page to a MSN page.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The IE default home page of Dell Venue Pro 11 is MSN. The link is: MSN.com. The OS is running win 8.1 and IE is ver 11.

I went to settings of IE from the desktop and changed the default from MSN to Google.com . However this did not work It keeps defaulting back to MSN.

I did a quick scan with Malwarebytes , no malware that I know of .

Any advise what to do next?

A:Internet Explorer Cannot change default home page

Hello sportflyer,

You might check to see if you may have an installed add-on or toolbar in IE that is forcing the MSN homepage.
Internet Explorer - Enable or Disable Toolbars and Extensions Add-ons - Windows 7 Help Forums
If not, then you might see if using the tutorial below to specify a default homepage in IE may make it stick.

Hope this helps,

hello & welcome to TSF ,

just for starters I would like you to do this

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

also

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

IE is not a search engine. You must select a search provider such as Bing, Google, etc.

My Internet Explorer is not going to my default page but to microsoft.com and it asks me to install the IE7 I didn't want it and thought it would go away (I was happy with IE6) anyway, to try and solve the problem I have downloaded it 2 (because 1st time still same problem). I set it and been using it for many years...just occurred.

What I have also noticed is my PC beeps in the background has if a command as been made and the title bar goes light blue in colour thus stops me using it for that moment. This happens on other applications i.e. Internet Explorer, Word.

I ran HiJack this and spotted 1 'name' I did not recognize and read up that it needed to go, so I deleted it.

Can you advise me please.

I've tried to change my Internet Explorer home page to one I use aloe. For about a year, no problem. Went to Internet Options, made it my home page as instructed - never had a problem untill I loaded Quickbooks for Manufactures and about the same time I added a Spyware and Pop-Up bloc software. The problem seemed to have began with the Quickbooks install. Quickbooks said I needed to update Explorer, so I allowed this to happen. I don't know it these are related, but ever since I cant' seem to have my custom home page come up. After I go thru the process of making my home page custom, it remains this way for one or two times (when I click on Internet Explorer) but then it reverts to "about blank". Note: My operating system is Microsoft 2000 Professional and the home page I keep installing (or would like to use, if I can figure out how) is a UPS.com site. So am I crazy, or has Microsoft made it impossible for me to have something other then "about blank" or "MSN's" home page? Hope someone can help. Thanks, lrbronze

My MSN email was recently hijacked but I was able to reset password and correct that problem. When I signed back in to my homepage I was directed to a "guest page" that has never appeared before. I can then sign in from there and go to my original home page but am unable to change that to the default or delete the "guest page". Funny thing is both pages have the same address in the explorer address bar. I have run Spybot and Virus detection software with no problems found and then went to Hijack this. I have a log that I would like help to review before I try to correct any issues. I also checked Spybot to make sure it had not locked the homepage also. Not a serious inconvience for me but want to be sure I don't have some other malware on my computer tracking me. Any assistance would be appreciated.

A:Cannot change my home page of internet explorer

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running. Ad-Aware® SE Personal Edition
*Note* For Ad-AwareSE also install the VX2 Addon Cleaner To run this tool once Adaware is updated click on Add-ons in the lefthand column. Select VX2 Cleaner V2.0 and click Run Tool. Click "OK" , then, if something is found, click "Clean" as in the directions given. Click "Close", and exit Ad-Aware.
Spybot Search & Destroy
CWShredder
Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

Please upgrade HJT and run another scan. Post the results of the new scan in your next post.

Does it look like this: http://homepa... or something similar?

This is a way for IE to see URL's. Usually caused by a "highjacker" program or spyware.

I very recently had a malware or problem that created lots of popup adds. I ran Malwarebytes and Superantispyware to no avail. Decided I would do a system restore and then couldn't get back in as my user profile was corrupted. Had to go in and set up a new profile. I should have said this is in WIndows 7.
I really don't know if this is a problem or not but when I go to Tools-Internet Options-General I see the following for the home page:  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=255141
This just doesn't look right to me but everytime I try to change it, it pops back up again. Can I change this? Should I change it ? Not sure what is going on.
Thanks for the help. If I get this resolved, I will have a question on how to get my email addresses and old emails back in my Mozilla Thunderbird!
Thanks again!

EDIT: I fixed it I went back a few more days and now it is gone but the file line is still in the system.ini

Okay I am new I just found your site today and love it. So here is the problem I have that nasty hijacker called inetg I have this before and the only way I got rid of it was with an F-Disk. I don't want to do that again. So Please help.

Here is what I did last time.
1. D/L Hijack this and stopped everything that had inetg in the dir name.
2. Turned off the system restore thing.
3. Went in to safe mode and deleted the inetg folder.
4. Went to the cmd promt and typed in system.ini and delted the inetg file
from there to but it keeps putting it's self back.
5. Reloaded windows in normal mode and inetg comes back.

I have also deleted stuff in Hijack this. But enough talk here is the hijack this file.

You have been infected by a hijacker. That is indicative of what a hijacker, malicious malware, does.Run both Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy from safe mode, updating each program before you scan and setting both to fix what they find.*AdAware SE: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html*Spybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.htmlFollowing that that I suggest you post a ?HijackThis? log for expert assistance with your problem.Read the pinned post in our ?HijackThis? forum, herehttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/ Carefully read and follow all directions explicitly.Following instructions run a log, and post it in following HJT forum, at this link. I installed (and uninstalled and reinstalled several times) IE 7. I love it with one exception: My home page is hijacked by this website: http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/stp/ymsgr*http://my.yahoo.com
I have tried so many things and nothing works. 1) Resetting home page doesn't work 2) Editing registry doesn't work. 3) Ran HijackThis and tried to repair those apps and doesn't work. 4) Ran SpyBot S&D and can't find the problem. 3) Ran CCleaner and doesn't work. 5) Ran Registry Mechanic and does nothing. I have Norton Antivirus 2006 running. I have DSL with a wireless router, so therefore a firewall. In the 15+ years of owning computers, I have never had any viruses. I know my security. Just don't understand how I got this and how to get rid of it. It's not so much as bothersome, it just irks me that something got through my security and now am unsure my security is enough. Please help me get rid of this. Thanks,

Navycpo

Hi people, I new and probably this problem is old but I could not find the solution in the answers.

Yesterday I was surfing internet suddenly my anti virus catched 3 VIRUSES It automatically detected them but said file access denied. After this my home page in INTERNET EXPLORER was set to http://213.159.117.134/index.php . I tried to set it back to blank but it again changes itself to http://213.159.117.134/index.php within seconds.
Can anyone tell me how to remove this one.
I have tried using adaware & HIJACK THIS.EXE to remove this virus.

Thanks to all who will devote their time in Advance

Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.

My computer is connected to a router, from there to an ADSL modem, and from there to the DSL line.

Everytime I open a new Internet Explorer (v.6.0) window, the lower-left corner has a message "detecting proxy settings" (or similar) and it hangs there for what seems an unecessarily long time (@ 5-10 seconds).

Is this normal behavior ? I would think that the "proxy settings" would have been detected and saved, so this delay shouldn't be happening.

Nothing has changed in this system for several months. I don't remember it happening before, but now that I have noticed it, it is becoming rather annoying.

Is there something that can be done ?

Thanks in advance,

George

A:Internet Explorer Slow to open Home Page

Could be a browser hijacker. Run Spybot S&D and Adaware SE, as well as Avast antivirus. See if those can clean away any browser hijackers.

What make and model of a router are you using?

Hello. This is my first ever posting.
There are two things which I think might me related.
At start up I get the "Identity Switch Cancelled Panel". This goes away after some minutes.
When I try to open Internet Explorer it opens with displaying the Outlook Express Address Book and not the home page which is Google.UK.
I have read the replies to the "ID Switch" problem but that was related to Outlook Express.
These problems and a number of other small issues all happened overnight.
I have Windows XP Professional. It is a Media Version. I have IE 7 and OE 6.
Hope you can halp because I think these problems are the reason why I can't re-load my HP 1200 series printer which also failed at the same time.

Thanks,

Since I have to use IE as well as FF I want IE to perform as much like FF as possible. I've set most things to do what I want but when I only have my Home Page open I want a search page to open in a new tab. It doesn't, it takes over my Home Page. Yet links from the search page will open in new tabs. I want to keep my Home Page as it is and open any new pages in a separate tab. The only way I've found to do this is by opening a blank tab first.
Can anyone explain how to do this please?
