I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone. I'd like to know why win7 64bit decides by itself to auto refresh a window minute and literally the next second or two later it does not.
Lets say, I save a pic from the net, just before I go into the browser I already have my downloads folder open. I save a couple pics and I go back to the open folder and the pics are there at the bottom (I sort by date modified). I go back to the browser save another pic or anything, I go back to the folder and the pic or whatever is not there, so i have to refresh myself. I was just in that folder 10 seconds ago I seen no reason for it to not refresh now when it just did it 10 seconds ago. Now, I have not changed any setting regarding this or any explorer action. I can't even find an auto refresh option anywhere.
So how is this possible? What the heck is wrong with this OS?

I must say, I will soon be at my wits end with this OS. I paid $300 to spent more time organizing and moving files around. A lot more time. They have really screwed up explorer this time around. Explorer in XP was essentially perfect (I never even touched Vista on my machines. My wife has Vista). I'm starting to believe that win7 was just a money grab and that of the many problems with this OS will not be fixed in any hotfix or service packs, but win8 will be all better just as long as you spend another $300. A:Explorer windows auto refresh then don't auto refresh. Why?

We have a thread for this kind of thing. I can't find it at the moment. I think unsubscribed from it on accident, but I'm pretty sure its in general discussion. Explorer is working like it always does. It can be annoying that it doesn't always refresh, but I'm sure you can find a pattern, like how many added files it takes or how long it takes to "auto-refresh". The reason you don't here anything bad about Windows 7 is for three reasons. 1) you haven't looked hard enough. There are plenty of news stories with Mac lovers saying its Vista with a new paint job. 2) XP was as unstable as Charles Manson on Crack at the best of times when it first came out. 3) Vista was, well Vista. MS claimed it would run fine on 512MB of RAM, so people were installing it on old computers, and new computer were being bought that were seriously underpowered. When it wouldn't run worth a crap, everyone hated it. Not to mention the incompatibility issues that no one saw between 2000 and XP. If you didn't use Vista at all, the changes do seem a lot more drastic. If you don't like it, go back to XP SP3. Problem solved!!!!!!!

We have WINDOWS XP OS on my system. We have a problem with auto refresh in windows explorer.
We have a folder that is mapped to network location. We have this problem only with the network mapped drive.
As soon as we rename any file, the file is moved to the last in the folder. We do not want this behavior. The file
should be in the same place where it was before renaming.

For example,
we have the following files in the folder in the same order

if we rename the file 'fgh.pdf' as 'fghxyz.pdf' then the order will be

Any ideas to disable this behavior?

My 2 year old was banging on the keyboard the other day and changed the way my desktop appears. The icons are no longer translucent and windows no longer auto refreshes when I make changes to files.

I've done a repair of XP, loaded all the updates, reinstalled the latest graphic/ATI drivers and VIA chip drivers. I can't find a setting option to change these settings.

Any ideas?

For the autogrid, go to your desktop, right click your mouse, select "Arrange Icons By", and then check "Auto Arrange" and "Align to Grid".

Greetings all~
I was wondering if there is a easy way to "set" IE 6 to automatically refresh a page...say 2-5 minutes...
I usually leave my work email page open and manually click the refresh button now and again to check for new emails...SO basically I'm lazy and wondering if I can set IE to refresh the page on its own....
Hopefully for my sake this isn't a stupid question and I'm missing something obvious

Hey guys,

I go to a site everyday that auto-refreshes every minute or so, but everytime it does it jumps in front of all other windows and I lose control of anything I've been working on.

e.g. I'll be typing an email, looking down at the keyboard, and that window refreshes and jumps in front of everything as I'm not looking. When I look up, I lost everything I've been typing and have to click back on that window to gain control.

Does anyone have any ideas? Can't tell if it's a browser (Explorer) setting or Windows (XP professional)setting or something else.

I have wondered for a while if this were possible and just found out it is.

If you scroll to the bottom of the home page and click where it says Currently active members, here you can have a look if anyone viewing your thread, see which thread a particular user is active in etc, ok you probably knew that but if you stay on a page for a while it auto refreshes itself and what i wanted to know was if there is an option somewhere in windows to enable this for any or all web pages?

A:[SOLVED] Auto refresh

I do not think there is this option in IE. Usuallyany auto refrsh page is built into the page. What you can look for is a program to automatically refrsh a page or you can even create one, shouldn't be too hard. Oh course if you download onealways be careful and check it first. I'm fairly sure one must be out there though.

It's driving me crazy that IE5 won't let me look at just one window when I have multiple windows open. The ones I don't want to see at the moment while letting them complete, are updating and popping back on the screen when I'm trying to read another. I often go to click something in one window when another one suddenly refreshes and I click something I didn't want to, or close a window that I wanted to stay open.
Does anyone know how to get IE5 to update/refresh in the background so I can focus on the one window I want?
Or is this something that IE6 will allow?

I have a Win 7 Pro (x64) machine with an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT and two Samsung monitors, a SyncMaster and an SMBX2440. The NVIDIA driver is v8.17.12.6099 dated 10/16/2010.

Displays are set at native resolution, 1280x1024 for the SyncMaster and 1920x1080 for the SMBX2440. Refresh rates are 75Hz and 60Hz respectively.

Every once in a while the display on either monitor will not refresh. I'll close a program and even though it's actually closed, its' image is left on the screen. Right clicking on the display and clicking refresh clears the problem. Or dragging another application over the area with the ghost image will also clear the problem. It wipes the ghost away.

I can't make this issue happen so it's hard to troubleshoot. I haven't been able to put my finger on any particular set of conditions that causes it to happen.

My PC is working well otherwise. Does anyone have any suggestions what might be causing these image ghosts to be left behind and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

A:Display doesn't auto-refresh (sometimes)

I created the original post here 2 1/2 years ago. The problem is still happening so I thought I'd post an update and bump the subject in the hope someone may come along with a solution.

I'm currently running driver version, dated 1/18/2013, for the 9800 GT. I'm sure numerous other things have changed in my machine but since the not auto-refreshing problem was happening before any of those changes I don't think they're causing the issue.

So...anyone have any thoughts on why my displays sometimes don't auto-refresh?

Greeting folks, I'm new to this site. I'm somewhat new to XP, we've used NT4 for years. When using windows exploreon a busy networked folder, the cursor is hourglassed frequently, to the point that you cant copy anything. If you only have explore running, open to this network folder, the cpu constantly pulses to 80% about every 5 seconds, sometimes for 20 seconds or more. This only happens on a very large folder on a mapped network drive, with about 10,000 folders and about 100GB of data. This folder is being written to very frequently by about 20 users. It seems XP wants to refresh every time the data changes. You don't have to be in a folder that is being written to, any of the 10,000 will act the same. I've also noticed that when everyone goes home, there is no problem. Is there a way to stop the refreshing, like NT4?

Wasn't sure where to post this but since I only use Firefox as a rule, I guess here will do.

I recently came across a browser add on called ReloadEvery

I thought it might be handy but if its going to cause me any problems, I won't bother.

Anyone else use this extension or similar? It seems to do what it says on the tin but I notice that on forum sites it seems to depend which board software is being used.

A couple of sites that I visit, when I select view new posts, if I want to refresh the page, I can do so by clicking the refresh button. Therefore ReloadEvery can be set to do it for me.

Here at TSF, that doesn't work and I have to click view new posts again to see the latest posts. Consequently, it would appear that the add on is of no use to me here.

Anyone know if there is a way around this?

A:[SOLVED] Setting web pages to auto refresh

This first started a couple of days ago.  Turned my laptop on and found all my desktop icons had auto arranged down the left hand side in alphabetical order.  I'd had it plugged in to a TV the previous day so just assumed they had auto arranged
due to a resolution change.  I changed them back to how they were and didn't think anything more about it until the next day when I booted up and they had auto arranged again.

- I then narrowed it down a bit further and found that if I rearranged a couple of icons then right clicked the destop and choose 'refresh' this wouldn't save their current position, it would put them back into alphabetical order down the left hand side
- I then tried safe mode using my login, and again it failed to hold the desktop icon position when I clicked refresh, or rebooted.
- After that I tried safe mode and normal mode using a different user account, and they could hold desktop icon positions with no problems.
So it just seems to be affecting my user account on the laptop.  I have made sure both 'auto arrange icons' and 'align icons to grid' are turned off.  align icons to grid makes no difference whether it's on or off.
Running 64 bit version of Windows 7 ultimate.

Any suggestings on what could be causing this, and what I could try to fix it?

I created a "search folder" in outlook with one criteria (Recieved = Today) and (Browse = inbox) This displays all the eamils that are recieved (today) and it searches the inbox and all it's subfolders so I don't have to dig through all subfolders.

This is working great with only one glitch. It doesn't update itself automatically, so if I open outlook in the morning it displays the emails from yesterday (which were "today" yesterday ) I have to right click the search folder, click (customize current view) and click OK then it refreshes itself automatically. This is strange because I have another search folder that displays yesterday's emails and this one automatically refreshes itself everyday whenever I opened outlook and all other search folders update whenever I use them (based on date or any other criteria). Any idea why this happens?

Hey guys! I'm new to the forum and I didn't find a topic that helped in the search function. Anyways:

MS Access 2007. I'm trying to change a command button from refreshing "on click" to automatically refreshing at a set interval (say 10 min). I've been playing around with it, and I assume this change should be made in the "Events" tab in the Property Sheet for this command button but I can't figure it out.

Anyone know how to do this? This is one of my first experiences with Access btw (I've done a little more with Oracle sql developer).

A:Solved: Microsoft Access Command Button Auto Refresh

axkoam, welcome to the Forum.
Can I ask why you feel the need to do this?

The event that you need is on the Form properties, it is the "On Timer" event and the you need to set the time interval with the "Timer Interval" when the form is loaded. If I remember correctly the time intervals are in 1000ths of a second or something similar, so you will need to test the time interval against a clock.

I just installed a retail copy of win 7 on my laptop and have been experiencing some issues. At first everything worked fine but out of the blue my desktop/folders have not been auto-refreshing. Whenever I try to delete or create a new folder I have to manually refresh to the folder in order to view it.

When shutting down my laptop it takes 5+ minutes and when my desktop is loading after booting up the laptop it takes several minutes for everything to load and for the win 7 chime.

Finally, it won't allow me to update. When I try to use the windows updater it hangs for a while on "creating restoring point" (which may be normal) but then permanently hangs on installing update 1/16 at 0%. If I try canceling the update nothing happens and even when I try to shut down the laptop it attempts to install the updates but hangs on update 1/16.

From researching these issues I've realized that the auto-refresh problem is not uncommon and has something to do with a network. This may be unrelated but these problems only started to occur when I was transferring pictures via a USB stick.

Anyways thanks for reading, is there anything I can do that would help?

A:Slow startup/shutdown, no auto refresh, update hangs

Welcome to SF, Dante19. Please complete your System Specs.

Did you add any new software after which the problem occurred?

Does it autorefresh in safe mode?

Do you have the latest video driver installed?

If you start msconfig, tab to startup, and uncheck ONLY items your are positive are safe, do this make a difference?

Is it possible to set a function which automatically refreshes a page at a set interval.

Some of the forum/community pages I use have this as part of your user options
eg: "Check this box to refresh screen at __ intervals"
but is there something in the IE settings/tools etc that you can do it for every page?

(OK, I am perfectly aware that there is a refresh button; who says I'm lazy!!)

I would like to completely disable auto run / auto play in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7, and I cannot find a way to do so. I've searched the web endlessly, and there are lots of suggestions, but nothing works. I have disabled every type of auto run / auto play I can find, but if Windows Media Player is open and I insert a flash drive, CD, or DVD, whatever I'm playing is interrupted by what was inserted even if it's not media. Just a plain, blank flash drive does this.

Has anyone else been able to figure this out?

I have Word 2002, SP3, for Windows Office XP Pro.

My problem is I want to permanently turn OFF the autocorrect options (all of them: correct initial capitals, correct first letters of days, etc etc, autoformat, as well as auto text and auto type).

Yes, I have unchecked all the boxes in Tools > Autocorrect Options, the problem is I have to painstakingly go though all the boxes every time I open Word and uncheck them. My setups are not remembered.

I can't figure out how to make these options stay set this way.

I've tried installing the Office Resource Kit and setting a system policy (though I am the only user on this PC), but no success.

I had to rebuild my system a month ago -- before that, I never had any problems, Word seemed to remember exactly my preferred set up and saved autocorrect options etc to the normal template.

I checked the normal template and it is in Doc Settings folder where it should be.

I searched the forums and Word help but can't seem to find any advice, mainly because most people usually run these options and they only wish to modify the instances where they apply, rather than permanently disable them.

Please help! Much appreciated! Thanks!

I did a system refresh and I noticed a 'windows.old' folder that contained all my programs.

Is it safe to copy it back to my programs directory or should I reinstall these programs and delete windows.old?

A:Windows.old after refresh

Do NOT copy it directly to your programs folder, it will either not work or mess up your system, reinstall all your applications the normal way. You can safely delete it if your new OS is working fine.

Hello and thanks in advance for your help! The other day I was having some difficulty opening one of my browsers so I decided to reboot my computer. This occurred after Windows tried to have me upgrade to Windows 10 and I clicked upgrade later. For some reason it still tried to download something but I closed it. I rebooted like I said but after the start screen, instead of going to the screen to enter my password I was just getting a blank screen. Perhaps it was running an update and I needed to wait longer but I thought it was frozen and forced a shutdown. The same thing happened when I started again so again I forced a shutdown and tried to reboot in safe mode. Turns out that's not s thing in Windows 8 and it took me to a screen asking if I want to refresh my system or reformat. I chose refresh because the description sounded benign enough but it actually reset every setting I had made and deleted all my programs, which included browsers with saved passwords and bookmarks. I tried to open system restore but apparently it wasn't automatically making restore points! I have a Lenovo and saw an option for "onekey restore" so I tried that but it was somewhat confusing and I wasn't able to find a restore point there either. I saw somewhere online that your old files are saved and indeed I was able to find a Windows.old file one my computer. Can someone please help me return my computer to how it was before the "refresh" that I did? I'm pretty sure when I did it the computer said... Read more

I should add that since the refresh it's like my computer has a virus. I keep getting pop ups to install a faster browser and Internet explorer keeps opening to random ads.

Hey all, I've got a question regarding the refresh feature. I'm thinking about doing it because my XPS is full of a bunch of programs and I'm not sure about what's even used anymore, especially of the 9000 Visual C++ redistributables in programs and features. My question is this- does there need to be a windows 8 recovery partition? This machine shipped with W7 Home Premium and I installed W8 Pro followed by the 8.1 update so I'm not really sure if that recovery partition was updated, and whether or not I even need to worry about that to begin with..

Thanks in advance!

A:Windows 8 refresh

Hey Zach,
You'll need a recovery of some sort, be it a built in partition or media you created.
Click on the 'Get Started' button, it will tell you what to do next; you can cancel if you wish.
(I think maybe the 'Remove everything...' option is what you're looking for.)

Lately my laptop has been running a bit slow, not sure why. After doing anti-virus and malware scans I decided to use the Windows Refresh feature to see if this has any affect. However, when I try this it asks me to insert my recovery media, so I inserted the recovery disks I made using HP Recovery manager and then I'm told that they're all invalid. Any suggestions? Not sure why it comes up saying they're invalid as I made them in the proper way and have deleted my recovery partition so can not re-create them.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks, MattthewB

A:Refresh Windows 8.1

You have use the Windows 8.1 DVD or the recovery media containing the large install.wim file.
You can create installation media by downloading Windows 8.1 files from Microsoft (takes some time and downloads lots of files)

Edited since original posting: I have since found that build 10586 was the W10 Insider Preview version, which continues to be updated in parallel with...
build 10240, which is the RTM, or final retail version. Not sure how I ended up with the different versions as I backed off from the Insider Program, back to W7, long ago...

Scenario: I have 2 computers, both say that they have all updates applied.

Computer A gives the following information when I access System > About:Edition: Windows 10 Pro
Version: 1511
Build: 10586.63
Product ID: finishes with AA569

Computer B, for System > About:Edition: Windows 10 Pro
No version or build info
Product ID : finishes with AA812
Using System Information tool yields slightly different results:
Computer A:OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
Version: 10.0.10586 Build 10586Computer B:OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
Version: 10.0.10240 Build 10240
It is not my primary problem (see below), but I cannot understand why the System > About, build number on Computer A is different to the version and build given by System Information.

My actual problem is as follows. I have had recurring losses of internet connectivity since upgrading each of these two computers to W10. I found a link somewhere which helped to sort out Computer A. I had to download an iso file of W10Pro and then do a REFRESH, which kept all the apps and data intact. Nice.. it resolved my problem and sorted one or two I didn't realise that I had. So I thought to do the ... Read more

A:Cannot do a REFRESH of Windows 10

Hi, I would imagine the problem is the build difference. The two PCs are at two different build levels; 10240 was the first public release, and 10586 the build released in November. Upgrading from 10240 to 10586 is virtually a reinstallation of Windows.

Given that you only have the one DVD, that will be one of those specific builds.

You can freely download Win 10 installation media, so you should download the appropriate one as needed.
