Preferred Solution: Access to a folder on the server that I could previously access?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

[Windows 7 Prof 64-bit SP-1]

A folder in \Programme Files(x86), which was shared last week no longer allows access from my network (XP Home/Prof machines).

The folder is (was) a shared one, has the read only attribute removed, and has a share-name. I don't have the [Share With] option on right-click, only [Advanced Sharing]. It's shared with Everyone for read-write access.

Try as I may I cannot get this folder to revert to its previous shared status and unless a solution is found I shall have to move it out to a new folder unde c:\ outside system control.

My UAC is one notch down from the top.

Hi Everyone,

I am running a single Domain Controller on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box.

Within my Domain there are about 40 clients; a mixture of Windows computers ranging in version from XP to W7.

On many computers I have enabled shares on various folders (for backing up email, sharing data directly between computers, etc).

On my personal workstation I have a number of folders shared with the rest of the Domain.

Recently colleagues of mine have not been able to access any of the shared folders on my workstation. When they attempt to do so through "Network" (from Windows 7) they see the following message -

Whilst colleagues cannot see my shared folders they are setup exactly as they were when they were accessible (and I have not made any changes in recent memory). Furthermore I am able to access shared folders on other computers from my workstation.

I have performed a fair amount of Googling before posting to this forum, and many of my search results indicated that I should use the Netdom.exe command to reset the "machine account password" for the Domain. However this seems like using a sledge hammer to put a tack in a wall, and I really don't want to mess with the Server if I can avoid it.

Further to the above I have also read a great deal about file encryption and setting the encryption in Windows 7 lower, but this only appears to be relevant when trying to connect from XP to W7 (which doesn't really concern me at this stage).

A:Cannot access Shared Folder (that was previously accessible)

Hi Everyone,

I have managed to solve this issue. Previously I have encountered similar issues between a Windows Domain Controller and a client computer; however in previous cases the client computer simply wasn't able to logon to the Domain (even when using the Admin, or Administrator account). In those previous instances I would receive a "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed." message at the logon screen (as pictured below) -

In the instance related to this post there appears to have been some kind of "partial mistrust" between my workstation and the Domain Controller (Windows 2008 R2 Server).

Before looking directly at the Domain as the primary cause of this issue I performed the following on my workstation.

1). Removed an "Alternate DNS" entry from the network adaptor
2). Flushed the DNS (using ipconfig /flushdns)
3). Rebooted

After the above steps there was no improvement, so I performed the following additional steps.

1). Unjoined the Domain from my workstation
2). Rebooted my workstation (and logged onto a local account)
3). Deleted my workstations entry from Active Directory User & Computers on the Server
4). Rebooted the Server
5). Rejoined the Domain from my workstation
6). Rebooted my workstation
7). Logged back onto my workstation with my Domain account

The above steps fixed the issue, and I am now able to view shared folders that are on my workstation from Windows 7 & Win... Read more

A:Cannot access Shared Folder (that was previously accessible)

It may be worth checking that the time/date settings are all in sync on the server and the clients. Another common problem is people may inadvertently use their ISP or router as an alternate DNS server.

Your PC's and servers should only point to your internal DNS servers. If not you will often have name resolution and connection issues.

I've also read that Symantec Endpoint security can cause problems such as is being described.

On Windows7 Pro,  trying to run IIS.  The way I am used to execute is  on the browser "localhost".  I used to have the code in the directory  C:\inetpub\wwwroot.   Even before I copy,  I am hoping to see
the image IIS welcome page.  Once it is successful, want to copy the code as that was the way I used to do in Window XP.    However I am getting the following message.  I have administrator access to the machine and gave full permissions

Error message 401.3: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied (access denied due to Access Control Lists). Ask the Web server's administrator to give you access to 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.

Can someone help me to address this issue.  Thanks a lot in advance.

I did something really stupid, apparently.

In the list of users for a folder I need, it showed EVERYONE as having all access privileges (along with some other users too). I denied access to EVERYONE, thinking that the permissions for the other users would remain. It didn't. Now I can't access the folder, even as one of the other users or as an administrator.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

I am the IT support guy at a hospital, and have started noticing that a few user logons have the ability to access all of the folders on the network share. It appears that they have 'Domain Admin.' access. I have checked permissions, and these users do not belong to groups that have been given access to the folder. I have covered what I believe to be the basics (folder permissions, users permissions, group permissions, inheritance, etc) but the IT manager and myself have run out of ideas.
I realise I can add the users that I have noticed to all folders on the network share and expressly deny them access; but this will do nothing to any other users that also have this quirk that I have not picked up on yet.
Is there any area I am not looking at, and is there a way to discover if any other users also have incorrect access without the need of testing every user (about 500 at last count).
The hospital is running Win Server 2003, and the client machines are a mixture of Win 2000 and Win XP.
Any ideas would be gratefully received,

how can i restrict user from finance department to access share folder in server? just that particular department. can anyone advise me with steps? what i know i can set in the permission 1by1. but the department has 100 user. is there anyway to actually set to restrict this 100 user from accessing the share folder in the server?

A:how can i restrict department access share folder in server?

How it works in my company is that the rights are provided on the designation/department and not on the user.
For e.g. You would want to restrict rights on the finance dept by accessing any folder in the server. This will automatically restrict all the "users" who feature under Finance Dept.
I guess its best to talk to your company's IT team to get this sorted.

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
Trying to access a folder on via a CIFS share on a Netapp file server.
On my Windows 7 box I get the "You don't have permission to access \\file path.
If rt-click > properties on the folder > Security Tab I get the "You don't have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings."
Clearly I do since I am a member of the File Administrators group and a Domain Admin and an Enterprise Admin.
If I login to an XP or Server 2003 host, I have full access to the folder, the files and can update any and all permissions.  So clearly something is different about my Win 7 host.  I've even tried opening the Windows File Explorer as an Admin,
but that made no difference.
What gives?  How can I fix this?
Thank you,

A:Can't access folder or permissions in Windows 7 but I can from XP or Server 2003

I finally figured this out.  Sorry, I forgot to post the solution a while back.  Basically I don't know the real reason why this occurred.  I was able to solve this by installing and running CCleaner.  This went through the system and
cleaned up a bunch of little know cache's that I wasn't aware of.  After that I was able to view and update the permissions on the Security tab of all my Files and Folders that were being accessed via a CIFS share on my Netapps.  I don't know which
item that was cleaned was responsible for causing this problem in the first place.
Good Luck.

Hey all,

I'm using Access 2007. Either way, my users want to use the Access database I've built to store documents (including jpegs, excel files, PDFs, .doc, etc.). To be blunt, I want this interface to be able to handle any file that the users want to throw at it, so I won't have to edit this once they decide they now want to "save" a file type that I didn't think of at the beginning. Now I know that Access won't be able to handle the bloat of the amount of files that my users want to add. Either way, I'd like them to have the illusion that the files are stored in Access. Really what I'd like to have happen is to have the users upload the files using Access to a folder on the server and then when they'd like to re-look at the file...download it from that folder. So Access in this case would just act as the middle man to put the files in the folder and re-load the files when needed. Is this even possible? For Access to connect itself to each documents' save functions from Access? Let me know.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a Dell Inspiron 545s Desktop - Intel Duo Core 2.93, 6gb RAM, 720gb HD, 64bit Windows 7

I get the message: (every time I try and open a folder on my c/drive - Can't access Windows Explorer folder on the taskbar and any other folder or file by double clicking it. I can open them by right clicking, then open)
"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a progra or, if one is already installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control Panel".

I can open applications. But, I can not open the folder for them lets say in c:/program files -- the only way to open them is by rightclicking, then open. If I double click, I get the above error message. (same issue with "my documents", "My pictures", etc).

Included with the above problems:
I now, can not access User Accounts. When I go into Control Panel, click User Accounts.. I can not manage existing ones, nor can I "Add or remove user accounts". I click the link and nothing happens.

I have someething built into the computer called "Dell DataSafe Backup". Its a recovery partition/part of the HDD that saves all my files for a recovery. However, I can NOT access it. I click the "Dell DataSafe" in my taskbar and nothing happens..

MS Support suggested:
I tried doing a registry fix:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

after saving the above file as 'exe.reg', I went to CMD prompt and typed: reg import exe.reg

I also saved above file as (by another suggestion): and ran a file called: vista-7-fixexe.reg , then CMD Prompt: reg import vista-7-fixexe.reg both did not work..

tried another suggestion in the CMD Prompt: "assoc.exe=exefile" but have no idea what this was for or what it did..As I have no idea what the above did or did not do..

(Some recent installs: Some updates including Service Pack 1. Some updates to applications I use as well..)

This has been happening for a couple of weeks - I can access the site from other locations, so it isn't the site itself. I have this site in my trusted sites in IE, etc.

This happened to me once before about a year ago with the same site and someone was able to tell me what to do - it wasn't something I'd have thought of and it worked, but I tried to call and the same guy wasn't there and no one knows what to do. Can you help?

any ideas where the problem lies??

Have a look at this Microsoft article, which describes how to set up a Homegroup.

HomeGroup from start to finish - Help & How-to - Microsoft Windows

Just remember that a Homegroup should be used when all your computers on the network have Windows 7 installed.

If they don't you need to be using a Workgroup.

I recall one of my older versions of Windows had a dropdown arrow between the Forward and Back arrows on the top left of the screen. This may have been the case with my present Win7 version of IE9, before I updated the program. Now that dropdown arrow has vanished. How do I get it back, if at all possible?

A:How do I access the drop down arrow to view previously visited website

Hello charita and welcome to Seven Forums.

I believe you can left-click and hold on the back arrow and a drop-down list of previously visited web sites will appear. Or you could access the browsing History with Ctrl+Shift+H.

My husband and I have several email addresses for our business that were created and hosted by another party using cPanel. Unfortunately we are late in paying our bill and our emails addresses have been shut down. Is there any way to redirect them? Any other advice? We did have access to the cPanel account but looks that was access was changed too. (see attached) If I am able to obtain access again, can I transfer the email addresses somehow?

A:Can I Access Emails If My Server Access Has Been Shut Down?

what was the last part after the @ of the email
why not just pay the bill ?
if ita a domain youu own , then you can transfer to a new provider and they can also host your email - but there will be a hosting / email server charge for you on another host.

Assuming this is all via a domain name, what is your domain name ?
when does the domain name expire?

Who are you hosting with now - is it very expensive?
What country are you in

You will NOT be able to transfer the email address and all the OLD emails , just the email address may be transfered - the emails will stay on the current hosting server , and if you leave it to long , which you may have already done, they will delete all the emails anyway

Hello there,

I'm struggling with networking problems.
I have server 2003 that acts as print server, file server and VPN server.

But after some configuring for the VPN adapter (separate adapter) I can't connect to \\server (that's server real name) anymore.
BUT I can connect with it over IP (, static IP)

So I thought that the VPN adapter is conflicting with some settings and disabled it, and it didn't help.

Server is behind router and I have static IP. Router seems to be configured correctly.
I can ping the server.

What's the problem?

May it be netBIOS problem?

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Intel Pentium running Windows XP  sp3 and have been getting tons of junk mail. I ran Avast, malware bytes &spybot. Nothing found. So I started looking through the Dell help on my computer. I'm not as savvy as I'd like to be and while trying to fix the issue myself I did something that I shouldn't have. First, I tried system restore to go back to a later date but it wouldn't let me no mater which date I tried. Then,I followed a suggestion regarding the registries. HUGE mistake! Now my computer is stuck in a boot loop. I obviously need to repopulate my hives but have no idea how. When the computer starts the Windows XP logo pops up. Then a box pops up saying lsass.exe access denied a proccess has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights. When I click ok It restarts. The Dell logo pops up then the Windows XP logo and then the access denied again. Ive tried to start in last known good configuration. Safe mode. System restore. But, i keep ending back in the loop. So, I tried ordering some disks that I thought may be able to help while I've been reading through threads for information. A:lsass.exe Access Denied a process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights

Windows XP has reached end of life 2 years ago... It is an insecure Operating System and should no longer be used especially online.
The Dimension 2400 is weak hardware (Pentium 4 Processor, IDE hard drive, DDR RAM) from 2003! so 13 years old! Its not worthwhile running a modern Operating System on it and below minimum system requirements.
If on a budget you are best to buy a second hand OptiPlex 780 with a Windows 7 OEM license (which can be used for a free Windows 10 upgrade).

A:Access Denied error when trying access Windows 7 folder from Windows XP

multiple levels of controls here

the XP needs the LLTP service from SP3 to be able to share w/ win7

there are two layers of access for share resources:

the network access
the NTFS access
The simplest solution is to use Simple Sharing and share via the All Users\Shared Documents\ directory. The Admin can set Allow Modifications (or not as needed),
which create the NTFS perms for the <Everyone> group.

So, *IF* you have network access (you can see the shared folder and it's contents),
then the NTFS permissions are the controlling factor.

IF not, the the network access is in control and you need to figure out Simple Sharing vs not-so-simple and those requirements

I've got an annoying problem which is similar to [but not sure if its the same as] some other complaints about the navigation pane reported here (like this & this).

It seems to happen only when the navigation pane is open on file commands like "open..." and "save as...".

When the dialog opens and I left click a folder opening arrow on the left hand pane, the folder expands but then after half a second or so it jumps back to whatever folder was previously expanded. Both parts of the tree remain expanded but I have to scroll to get to the one I just expanded, which is very annoying.

Has anyone else come across this (sorry - tried a search but couldn't find it)?

Is there a way to change it?

Why does Windows Networking always seem to hose things up ( Linux works EVERY time)

I have two computers on the SAME test private LAN one Whitehorse (W2003 server) and the other Blackdog (W8 Enterprise) both enabled "Shareable and Visible".

View from W2003 -- can see and access disks C,D, and F on W8 Computer

View from W8 - Networking shows the computer Whitehorse (W2003 server) but can't access any disks etc (or even its printer). PING even fails but W8 obviously knows it's on the Network because its found it. The stupid Windows diagnostics when you click Diagnose doesn't help at all --in fact I've NEVER found the network diagnostic panel of the slightest bit of help ever.

I've switched off firewalls etc while testing so there's no security rubbish to take care of while I'm trying to get this to work. LAN is purely LOCAL -- no computer is on "the other side" of a router.

Both machines can access independently the Internet through a Local router and connections are via LAN cable so nothing should be simpler. !! But can I get this to work !!.

I had a similar problem with W7 but it seemed to "Disappear" without me actually doing anything -- the proverbial "Ghost in the Machine" I expect.

Assuming this Windows 8 Enterprise machine isn't locked down with Group Policy.

This type of problem usually requires that you change the lanman server parameters in order to get Windows 8 working with older servers. Do these adjustments on the Windows 8 machines that needs to connect to the server.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

Reboot all machines after making the adjustment.

There are two separate settings for disabling the 128 bit encryption.

A:Cant access one particular server

If you can access via a proxy, but not from your normal IP number then it means that the website has blocked you. This appears to be a game site, so it is likely that you have been banned for breaches of the game rules
All you can do is contact the site via its support forum

A:I can't access my Web server from my pc?

Hi and welcome to the forums, your log which you have submitted here is now in the process of being analyzed, some logs take longer than others depending on the type of infection. As I am currently at undergrad status all my post are verified before final posting so this may also cause a short delay in the final post. Please be patient and I will get back to you as soon as I can

While you are wating for your reply please note...

Do not try and fix any entries that you see yourself (even if they do seem very obvious) If you do so the fix may not work as it should, leaving you open to possible immediate re-infection.

Do not disable your system restore - an infected/corrupted system restore is better than none at all, if anything should go wrong during the fix and restore is turned off then you could well be looking at a full system format

Please do not post in other forums while you are being helped here This is so the HJT helpers at other forums can get on with helping other users that are in need of attention.

If you are at anytime in doubt, or unsure of anything then please ask ! Dont be frightened - we wont bite....

Many Thanks - Dorian - AkA Steve

Okay, I'm stumped

I am trying to access a webserver from a PC and the browser tells me the server is down. Tried pinging it and I get a timed out response. nslookup fails to find the server. tried turning the firewall off, tried checking the content setting in the internet options, tried explorer and firefox. all with no luck. The user can email people at the site without any problems. The workstation can access pretty much any other server

I know the server I am trying to access is up and running because if I go down the street to another computer, I can browse the site and ping the address with no problems. Not only that, the site has around 500 subscribers and no-one else hase any problems.

There is something weird going on here. Any thoughts would be good. I am running Spybot on the workstation at the moment but have no real hope that it will turn up anything.

Workstation is a pentium 4 running Windows XP from a small office using a Seimens Speedstream modem.

We are running Windows 2000 Server. On the server is a Q: drive called 'Public'. 'Public''s permission is set to 'Everyone' with full-control. The employees and I can access the Public folder through My Network Places (most people have Win XP Pro) or through the run command, \\server\public.

Here's the problem. One person does not have access. She always did have access to the Public folder, but not anymore. I can access my PC (which is \\networkid) through her PC (\\popc). However, I cannot access \\server through \\popc. What is the problem? How come mine cannot see hers, but she can see mine? Me and everyone else can see the server, but not her.

Through her PC (\\popc), I type 'ping networkid' and I get replies. However, I type 'ping server' but there is no reply.

Any suggestions? I would love to get out of this funk!

A:All PC's can access the server, except one

Try recreating her Windows profile. Are you able to access the server if you log in with your profile on her PC? Is she able to access the server from a different PC using her own login?

Well, this has been an ongoing problem for a while, and RoadRunner support says "We don't block anything here at RoadRunner", so...here's my problem:

I can't access my server, http://darkangels-rs.com. Only very seldomly can I access the front page, with just the text, no background image and no little person icon that should be there. If I refresh, I get a timeout error. Most of the time, I get a timeout error.

I'm running Windows XP SP2, the site does not load on IE7 or FF2, and I'm using RoadRunner/Time Warner Cable as my ISP (obviously.) I've checked all my trusted sites, restricted sites (unless the IP of the site is blocked, in which case I don't know it, I think it's like 216.something.something.something) and even turned off my firewalls, checked their settings, scanned for adware, spyware, viruses, and the like, reset my modem, repaired my connection, AND turned off google web accelerator, in case they were blocking it, and no dice. Anybody got any ideas?

With the company I work for, we have VPN access using a Cisco VPN dialer. Now from this, we can access our billing software, as well as our email. Now I want to get access to our main server, where most of our files are, but no one has had any success except one guy who has XP that doesn't recall what he did to get there. Can I FTP over? I can ping the machine so I know my computer can at least see it. I run W2K and the server is W2K as well...

any help is EXTREMELY appreciated!!!

My friend has windows xp at her house on a dsl connection. At her office in the university she has a newer mac. Is it possible to do a remote login to her home pc and access files through the internet. I know she has to have at least a shared folder. the mac has a menu to connect to servers and gives the option to enter an ip address. I think all i need to do is type in the address and then look at the share file. does anyone know if it is more complicated than this and will this kind of access be blocked by a firewall either by the university or from her ISP.

A:how to get access to xp server across web

You can share files using the following methods:

- FTP programs
- Remote control applications
- Online storage and collaboration web sites
- Other options (vpn, peer-to-peer, instant messaging)

I am using a wireless linksys WRT54G router with 3 pcs, and can access the internet fine will all of them. I can connect to ftp servers that use the standard port 21, but cannot access one using a non-standard ftp port. I am using FTP Commander, and it appears to connect, but no files/folders show. A minute later I get the error message "An unexpected response was received from the FTP server. Make sure that you have entered the correct value in setup for your FTP port."
I have tried enabling port range forwarding (both while assigning a static IP and while using dhcp) and have tried enabling DMZ with the same result.
I've tried this with a computer running 98SE as well as with one running XP.
I know other people can access this server. Any Help would be appreciated.

I hope this is in the correct forum, so here goes. We have opened an ofiice in an old blg, and when we called ATT they said we could get a dsl line! well they made a mistake, so we explored a t1 line to much money. ok the people we rent from have a server, so someone suggested we do a wireless bridge. We are not directly in thair line of sight so is there a way to connect to a server wirelessly from building to building if the connecting bldg is 150 yrds away. Thanks any help would be appreciated or a site for help. There will only be two maybe three computers in use lap tops with docking stations or just lap tops.

oh forgot , we are using att sticks now , but slow and cumbersome also we are not the same company so w its two differant servers. Thanks again.

A:Server access

On the server, install a MIMO router which will have higher radio output.
Mount the router (at the server) near a window that faces your building and
set the SSID to something you and the owner agree upon.

Take a laptop with a WiFi adapter and stand outside your building and verify you can
get a good signal and connect.

Once that works, you get a Wireless Bridge (usually an Access Point configured as a bridge),
like this.

Once it all works (ie your systems have internet access), the MIMO router should have encryption enabled and your Bridge will need the key to connect.

Recenty purchased 2 new PC's with windows 8.
Setup workgroup, connected to server via work group. Saved credentials to system. Was able to access files first day.

Day two: try to access server and Win 8 prompts for username and password. I input UN and PW and system tells me its wrong. Even though I know its right.

I have tired many things with firewall and outbound security on WIN 8 machine, but it will not connect to win2k server via workgroup as it denies password.

Anyone know how to fix/resolve this issue (hating windows 8 right now)

hello all,
i have a lacie ethernet mini nas storage device.
router has been configured for port forwarding. device is seen and usable through
lan computers, both wired and wireless.
shares , users & passwords are setup. everything works fine over the lan network
at home.
i tested (at least i thought it was a valid test), the ftp through both wired & wireless
computers, and access is good.
but i cannot access ftp from work (same kind of win-xp box).
this is what i used when it worked from home; "ftp:[email protected]/documents"
but IE cannot connect.
lacie instructions do not cover an ftp walk through.
i think their tech support is out having a donut with the maytag repair guy.

Yeah i'm playing a game called Gunz, from legacygamers.net, i've downloaded all the latest patches, i've shut down my firewall, portforwarded, etc etc but when i go on i always get "cannot access server" i talked to the creator and he said that the server is accepting logins, but i still cant access the server. I know its kinda weird asking this here since most of you probably never heard of this game, but i thought it was worth a try.

I'm having the same problem, but that little Windows trick didn't help. My computer is and has always been (yes, I double checked!) authorized to access the network, but it won't now. I think I accidentally specified a wrong path, and now I can't get into the server at all. Does that make sense? If so, any advice??

Destination Folder Access Denied
You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder.
<Folder/Sub-Folder Name>
Date created: <Creation Date>
I get this dialog files whenever I try to modify (copy, delete or edit) contents of the "C:\Program Files" folder or its sub folders. When I click the Continue button, everything goes on fine without any problem. Some programs give write errors when I try to modify a file inside Program Files with them (e.g.; Notepad++ gives write error when I try to edit a text file inside one of the sub-folders of the Program Files folder).

I'm the only user on this computer, and I'm already the administrator who installed this Windows. There is no other OS installed on this machine.

This problem has been occurring for a long time. At first I ignored it, but later it started to became bothersome. I don't remember how have it started, or what had I done before it first appeared.

What can I do to stop Windows showing me this dialog box? I want to freely modify contents of any directory in my computer. This is a home computer, I have no social privacy concerns.

(OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1, Up-to-date)

I keep getting this error everytime I try to get onto a certain site:

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

And I am not sure why. I can access the site when I am on a different network or through a proxy, but not from my home network. Is is possible that I was blocked from this site or something? Is there a way to get around this (other than a proxy)?

A:You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Can you tell us the site or give us a link to it so we can see if others get the same error.
