I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Up untill today my PC has been working a-ok. I first encountered the problem when i was palying a online mmo. After a couple of hours playing i entered a world and some graphical corruption occured where green pixels seem to appear in bands where the lighter colours where. After a short while the pc locked up,with loads of green pixels appearing and the last split second of sound caught in a loop.Nothing worked, mouse keyboard, even the lights for numlock, scroll lock and capslock did not respond to the keys being pressed.it has happened almost every time i tried a game since then.

I rebooted my pc and it was fine untill i was loging into the pc,where more of the same graphical corruption occured, when i logged in after a short while the pc froze on my desktop and hr monitor lost signal.after a few seconds it came back on an a message appeqred in the corner by the toolbar saying Kernel driver 258.96 had failed but had been recovered, his happened a few times. Windows works perfect in safe mode and i updated the graphics card drivers to try and resolve this but it did not work,i am posting this off my iPod so pardon the bad spelling, will upload a picture or video tomorrow wih more info if needed.
Runnng on a packard bell iXtreme with a quad core cpu and Nvidia 8400GS grqphics card. Hope somebody has a solution .thanks.

Working on:
Dell B110
DE051 Celeron D
Almost 800MB Ram
WinXPSP3
80GB HDD
DVD/CDRW+- drive

User complained about Computer slowdowns and crashes when left alone.
I turned off startup programs and power options to always on with no screensaver.

They said they were using malwarebytes antimalware, so I did a quickscan to reporduce the results of the crash to get more info.

1hr 30min later the scan was in the Huiristics portion of the scan.

The user then used the bathroom and turned on the heater, turning on the waterpump and hitting the main breaker killing power to the computer.

Now 1 sec into windows booting "normally" it BSOD with:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disc defragmentation or backup
0x000..024

Safemode does the same thing.
I dont have a cable onhand attach their HDD to my laptop and run CHKDSK,
So I try a boot from a windows install disc intending to repair. Either the disc was scratched or the drive would not work on the CDR, but my drive at home plays it fine. Im thinking of going to install from USB or get a cable to CHKDSK from my laptop.

Im starting to think Im over my head, and am taking too long to finish.
Any help is appreciated.

A:possible OS corruption

You are headed in the right direction
0x24 indictes the NTFS file system and chkdsk /r should help.

I dont suppose that you can get to a command prompt?

As long as the bios is set to boot from the cd
I would try a few more times.
I have seen it take 6-7 tries before it will "hook up"

If the computer supports booting from a usb device that would be good.
If not you may need to hook it to your laptop to run chkdsk.

Here is an interesting problem for you all;
When I attach my DOK to the USB ports on my computer I get an error nessage that there is an increase in electrical flow followed by a message that the newly attached is not working properly. Tried detaching the DOK and retrying, tried it from all USB ports, tried removing alll the USB drivers from the device manager and have tried reboot - none of them work.

Any suggestions?

I am a mac user and I own a site that has downloads available for purchase. They are zip files with psd's in them. I have two windows 7 clients who can download the entire file and unzip it and everything show up except the psd files.

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to why this is happening.

Thanks!

A:zip corruption

Welcome Paigeypar to the windows 7 forums.

There is the possibility that the .psd files that you created are not compatible with the intel version of photoshop.
or, your zip program is only zipping up the fork files and not the data files. Not being a mac person, I do remember from my mac days that the mac uses two files to make a pair, one being the resource fork and one being the data fork. Most pc's ignore the resource fork and only use the data fork.

Hope this helps

Hiya

First post ever

Straight to the point.....

I have an Acer travelmate 3300 and all of a sudden on startup, in windows, or even when running the recovery Console or in Safe Mode, the system will blank out e.g. the screen will just go blank and the HDD light will completely disappear (the light that shows HDD activity)

Everything else is on including all the power and the motherboard Fans.

I've taken the drive out and ran a scandisk and repair on it and it says that it fixed some bad sectors (about 32k) but I put it back into the laptop and i still get the problem

i did get blusscreen once and it had the following information.

Page_Not_found_In_Non_paged_Area

It then went on about Win32k.sys and then

if anyone has had this problem, or know the answer that would be great

It's been driving me nuts all day

I all of a sudden started getting messages about my DRM being corrupt when trying to use Rhapsody music subscription software. The software directed me to a microsoft web siite to upgrade windows components (see below). I then tried upgrading the Windows components from Microsoft web site, but the upgrade button is grayed out - don't know if this means no update available or means invalid windows. Working with their support, I was finally told my windows valid license key is corrupt (as in illegal copy - Not!). They washed their hands of me and said I had to contact Dell because they installed the OS. I do not really think it is a license key issue, but I am still trying to resolve the DRM problem.

I'm just looking for a second "fresh pair of eyes" to comment or suggest a fix for a dilemma I'm having with my WIN XP PRO system. I'm working with a mS MVP on another board, but it's going stale and I'd thought I toss this over here and see if anybody has a suggestion. Approximately 3 weeks ago, when i started Internet Explorer this error message came up: In the above example, substitute sys restore, help center, sys info, management console etc To cut to the chase, as I tried to solve this error, it turns out several of the windows components return this error also even in safe mode, thus ruling out using system restore. sys restore is dead, sys info is dead, mmc, helpctr etc.. However, the computer works with my Corel Draw! program, the internet works with mozilla or Firefox. Things I've done is uninstalled add ons in Internet Explorer, dumped adobe, corel draw, ran hijackthis and run virus scans.. Here's a funny thing: Windows hot fix and security updates come on down the line and install no problem. But when you try to run sys restore you get that "* has encountered a prob and needs to close..." And of course Dr Watson has the same prob If there is an expert who wants to see the total history, here's the link:http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=23623 Nothing against Walter, just thought I'd ask if there is a fresh pair of eyes who might have a different opinion thanks all!!

Wow! They've done a whole pile more than I could! Since the mshtml error seems to be common with all events - I'd suggest reinstalling SP2 to "repair" IE6. Also be sure to get all the Windows Updates. If that doesn't succeed, then I'd go with a repair install of XP (it'll save your data and programs): http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htmFWIW - here's a link to TrendMicro's online scanner that supports Firefox: http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/h...call_launch.php

so where to start, well first of all i need to know how to repair a corrupted version of windows 7. I have two hard drives atm one with windows 7 working and one with the corrupted version on it. The main issue here is when my friend was fixing my computer he didnt format the hard drive with win 7 on it properly and i now have about 500mb's if im lucky on that hard drive. So id like to know how do i go about fixing the other hard drive with the corrupted windows 7 on it and no i cant reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows on it since he lost the disk briefly after doing so and it may not have been all that legal.

In the end of it all id like to get windows 10, how i figured about doing this was to get my old hard drive working with win 7 on it, boot up using that then install win 10 on it since it would have enough space to get the files which my current one cant.

If anyone else knows a better way of eventually getting windows 10 as my os without all this trouble that would amazing, i just want a hd with space on it

uhh i dont know what other information to give, i'm fairly certain its the windows files that are corrupted since i can still run my old games from it and not the hard drive.

tl;dr win 7 corrupted, got new hd with win 7, didnt format correctly, ****, want win 10 but not enough hd space, help get meh win 10 somehow by fixing corrupted hd or black magic

ill be out for the next two hours kinda bad time to post this but oh well

I am new to this forum and have a new computer and a new W7 pro 64bit
When I initially turn on computer the screen displays an illustrated information title of the gigabyte mother board,, then goes to a black screen with white lettering that flashes on briefly and appears to list the components of the system.
Why I believe there could be some corruption is that a flight sim game Rise of Flight is refusing to load. When i go to the start it tells me -"connection to master server was temporaily lost. check internet connections" All other sites are working. This change in Windows display occurred about the same time access to the game was denied which is why I I feel some problem has arisen within W7

A:possible corruption of W7?

Do you initially see something like this:

Then (or now) something like this:

?

The 1st is Gigabytes Splash screen. The 2nd is the BIOS screen. Usually, if you disable the splash screen, you will see the BIOS loading screen (which I prefer).

For me it was either/or, are you saying you now see one, and then the other? I won't be able to test it, but it's possible the BIOS is taking longer to load now and so the splash screen ends before the BIOS screen (which loads "behind " it) is finished. Does the boot take longer now? Perhaps the BIOS is hanging while your PC searched for a device? You could have a device (HDD, Optical drive) issue.

If not, this may just be a coincidence and you just need to troubleshoot your game issue. I don't think the OS itself is "corrupted". Have a look here and see if you don't find some help:

Rise Of Flight Blog

You may find your answer or an update to correct this. Looks like you must have a connection to server to play.

what happened is that while i was downloading a file though firefox, firefox froze and could not be shut down(by task manager and by right clicking - close, and various other ways of trying to shut down the program) , so i reset the computer thought the start menu, now after a full re-install of the OS (vista ultimate) i have no access to the hard drive that has very super ulta important information, i've had a bad experience with data recovery programs that i still lost everything anyways, so i'm wondering if there is a way to rebuild the MFT with a free program so then i can access the hard drive in a whole, just like it was before the MFT got corrupt

the only things that were installed in the new OS were firefox, avast, and the raid drivers(that the crashed 400GB drive is NOT connected to)

Re: Dell XPS, 2 gb ram, 160 gb hd, Intel Pentium 4A 3200 mz chip, running XP Pro SP2. I am having a series of problem that may or may not be related and would appreciate any help on these you can give.

First, The computer will not respond to keyboard commands in the boot source menu. But, the keyboard works fine once windows is running. I tried a USB board and the standard keyboard port; got the same result with both.

Second, the update download notification shield, microsoft puts in on the task bar while downloading, never gets beyond 9%. Auto update is turned on and my fire wall, sygate, has never gotten in the way before.

Third, the internet connection service that can be turned on or off in the Services window, is not there, neither is there a network icon in the Network Connections window. But, my satellite connection to hughes.net is running fine and my Belkin router is sending strong signals to my router.

Fourth, System Restore will not restore to a prior configuration whether it is one saved 20 minutes before or ten days earlier.

I'm having massive corruption issues running windows 7 ult 64. It regularly fails to boot and gives random bsod messages (Memory Managment, dll errors etc.).
I recently RMA'd the HD after it showed errors on the HD diagnostic utility (even after a complete wipe ) I also RMA'd the motherboard but it didn't change anything. At this point I have my eye on the wireless card (Rosewill RNX-G300EX PCI card). My thought is that (either through driver or hw fault) its causing some corruption in downloaded files, namely system updates. I also regularly get errors trying to open zip and executable files.

So heres the rap,

i have used the same install of windows XP for around 2-3 years without a format. ive updated all pc components in that time but kept the same install. of course i used all the relative driver cleaners before hand to reduce any clashes. I always kept the system clean and virus/ spyware free. never missed a beat until...

A few days ago i left my computer on all day whilst at work only to come home to a moniter screen which displayed 'no signal detected' so decided to reset it. then windows loading screen came on and near the end of the loading phase BSOD. i decided to boot in every other mode all followed with BSOD. i have never come across this before in my experience. I am very desperate to recover a few files within my documents including uni work and photos amounst other things <1gb in total id say.

to rule out hardware failure i tried booting it with another computer but BSOD still follows. it must be a software issue. or perhaps the hard drive it self?

i also threw the HDD in an external hard drive box and tried to load it as a mass storage device it does show up however i cant access it because it says it needs to be formatted. also windows displays the drive as empty instead of partially full which it should be.

any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
im sure this comes up alot but it does teach a valuable lesson to back up!

thanks,

kim

A:HDD corruption

Hello Kimbo
I would suggest that you d/l the tools from the website of the company that made your drive.
Most major drive manufacturers offer such tools.
Some are great... and highly recommended.
Not all are fully compatible with hardware from other makers.
SeaTools may be useful across makers, but I cannot say that it may be used with all.
That is why I suggest going to the maker of your drive.
(When I changed drives, I found that the WD utility was better for my new WD drive, and the Toshiba utility better for the old drive).
Again, YMMV.

Run both S.M.A.R.T. and Long tests, especially the Long.
This will let you know if the drive is bad, and (hopefully) whether anything can be recovered.

My Dad's computer has been acting funny lately. First thing is, the scanner is not working and an error message keeps showing up that the usb ports are not turned on. They are enabled in the bios with no previous problems. Connections are secure, no cracks in the cable, and the bios still says usb is enabled. Second, the power went out twice on the computer during some lightning strikes without adequate surge protection. The inside of the computer seems to be fine, but ther seems to be alot of sudden file corruption. Will wiping the hard drive clean, and reinstalling help this? Or perhaps the scanner or the usb cable can be looked at? Please help....

Hey guys,

I'm at my grandma's for christmas break and she's having troubles with her computer. I'm out of my league here so hopefully you guys can help me.

A couple of days ago an error would appear at start up stating that the Paging File Size was not turned on or was set too low. I looked on Microsoft's website and followed the steps on how to fix it, but it did not work. Now it keeps giving errors that certain windows temp files are corrupt. The corruption in MCE001f5 is preventing chkdsk from fixing the errors as it usually does when there's a file corruption. When the computer starts up, chkdsk is automatically canceled before it can start. Now to start the computer, you have to hit ctrl+alt+del whenever windows is trying to load, otherwise it just stays still and doesn't load. Also, this morning many files were missing and the wallpaper was changed.

Does anybody have any advice for me? I'm sure you will probably require further information from me as my description is pretty vague, but I'm not sure what all you need to know since I'm not very technologically gifted.

Thank you.

It sounds like she could have a fairly nasty infection. Which operating system is she using, and has she been downloading windows updates regularly?

I would advise you to follow our First Steps at Removing Malware . This process can get pretty in depth, especially depending on how bad the infection is. If they determine that you have a very bad infection, it may be quicker to just format the HD and restart fresh.

A section of my HDD has been damaged in some way (I believe a physical scratch to the surface). The program which the HDD was accessing when it got scratched no longer works. However everything else on the computer runs perfectly fine. The only problems occur when CHKDSK /r reaches stage 5 (verifying file data) or when I attempt to defragment. Then it either freezes or crashes. I have run SpinRite 6.0 and have identified the areas damaged. I am planning on backing up all essential files, however getting a new hard drive for this laptop is out of the question for me at the present time. I have resigned myself to the fact the hard drive is likely to fail relatively soon and that this damage is eventually going to make the hard drive unusable, however in an attempt to extend its lifespan, I was hoping to separate the damaged areas from the healthy HDD. My first thought was to create a partition which would contain all the damage to the hard drive and leave the healthy section intact, however I'm no expert in this area. Is there a way to dictate the parameters for a partition so as to use the values given to me by SpinRite about where the damage to the HDD is and create a partition which contains the damage? This would only be a temporary fix so I could defragment of CHKDSK without risk of a crash and to extend the life of the remaining HDD.

A:HDD corruption/scratch

I would try Hard Drive Regenerator, not Spinrite as it might actually fix that and it is shareware so you can get 1 free sector fix this way. If there is more than that then you have to reboot it to run again.

Recently after a power outage, I noticed that my Quick Launch bar was missing. After restoring it, every item was out of order.

I was trying to figure out why that was, and one possibility jumped out at me, registry error.

I could be wrong, but I'd like to fix my registry now, before the heavy computing season starts (school)..

I've spent the last 2 hours looking up how to fix the registry in Windows XP pro. I searched through google and microsoft's support site, but the only instruction I've found was (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545), and I'm not sure that applies to my case. There were tons of ads on using registry fixers, cleaners, etc..

I've searched these forums extensively and I don't plan to use a registry cleaner/fixer program (since those do more bad than good in the long run?), but is there a way to rebuild the entire registry so as to fix any corruption that may be latent?

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP 3 and I can burn a slipstream install cd w/ SP3, but was hoping to not have to reinstall all my games (their patches included).

i seem to have this really disturbing problem with certain files and folders. When i have collection of stuff grouped together, with multiple levels of folders, all of a sudden, when i come back after a few weeks or so to view the content, whole folders appear corrupted. and from what i have seen, this problem spreads and corrupts other folders as well.

What happens is :
1. the folder containing the documents -the tooltip says its empty, but when you go in, there is a file and the file size is listed beneath it

2. the files cannot be opened, especially a problem with pdfs

3. when you right click on the files, all the normal options do not appear, but a shortened version with much fewer options (none of which work ) appear.

4. those folders cannot be manipulated - cannot be moved, cut, copied, deleted nothing - not even with Unlocker.

Please help me to find out what hte problem is - because i have already lost quite alot of valuable content because of this

Hey everyone, I've got an issue with an old school laptop running XP Pro x86 SP3. It's a Dell (I know...) Latitude E5400.

It used to run perfectly fine, but one day I was removing some of the useless outdated programs my school had installed on it, and everything went FUBAR.

Booting the laptop doesn't take much time, but after clicking on my username, and getting my desktop wallpaper shown, things stop loading. I see my wallpaper, but icons don't load up until about five minutes later, with the taskbar. The icons don't have graphics either, until much later.

When everything finally loads, I can't do a single task without it freezing for another five minutes. Clicking on the start button, everything freezes. Right clicking on anything, it freezes. I'm able to navigate around for about 20 seconds smoothly, and then it becomes frozen. Even the clock stops at the minute it freezes.

I've got no startup items, I've only got 28 processes running after boot, I've ran a diskcheck, Microsoft installer cleanup utility, Advanced System Care Pro, CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, Malwarebytes scan, defrag , and disabled all visual themes. I also have over half of my harddrive space free, and I've tried deleting and creating a new user account.

Booting into safe mode is a temporary fix.

So can you guys help me out?

Hello, this will be my first post here. hope I do not screw up and I sure hope I can provide enough info for you folks to give me your opinions as to what action I can take in regards to a problem both myself and wife have on our computers.

The problem is this, on odd unpredictable occasions we both experience a odd graphic corruption on windows 2D application, I say 2D as the only time this problem occurs is when we view pictures with windows picture and fax viewer, also we get this same corruption when watching both streaming and downloaded video's.

Our systems play games like Fallout 3, Crysis, Borderlands flawlessly and we have no issues at all no matter how long we play, however when we do things as simple as view pictures, rename files or watch movies on unpredictable occasions we get odd lines that appear on the desktop application, and any band boxes we make on the desktop get even more corrupted.

The following is our system statistics, and below that is a link to the MSI forums to which I have tried to find a solution to this problem with no luck. I really would like some basic opinions as to what else I could try or if I should just give up and attempt one last final repair the the motherboard with a rather large hammer...

When running the defrag utility it stops saying that there may be disk surface corruption on drive C, it then advises me to run a full scandisk/surface scan.

When I do this it shows no errors... so I cant defrag my drive via system mechanic (still can normally) and also the scandisk screen shows up in different colours (not the usual XP blue)

Is this a problem with sytem mechanic or my system? (if so how bad?)

Thanks in advance

A:Possible disc corruption.

Hi,

Go to your disk manufacturer's website and download their disk utility for that drive. Use that to diagnose and/or repair/defrag your disk. That should give you any details that are needed. I am familar with System Mechanic and don't think that would be your problem from what you have said. The disk utility should get you back on track.

I am sort of stumped on this one although I have a few more options left open. I just wanted to get a few more ideas. I built a new computer a few months ago and it has been giving me hell ever since. It started with things on the hard drive randomly getting corrupted. I was using an old hd so I figured might as well buy a new one, so I did. That didn't solve the problem. I have had problems with 3 hard drives. I used memtest on my ram and it checked out ok. I am running out of ideas on what could be wrong.

Symptoms:

I noticed randomly files will get corrupted for games or any application in general. MOO got corrupted, but then again so did regedit. Periodically something important gets iced and the system won't boot so I have to reformat. It stays together for a period of time then something takes it down. I was wondering what else I could try or what it might be?

Hi, thanks for opening my post!

I've been having chronic BSOD crashes on a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop running Win XP Pro SP2.

No new hardware or software loaded. Microsoft Windoze automatic screw-ups are turned off. Only hourly AV patches are new software uploads. (Run 2 other near identical laps, and not having same issue).

Have done extensive tests on HDD, loose RAM, corrupt drivers, diagnostic utilities et al, and nothing really presenting itself.

Have tried the "Restore computer to last known good config", have done a couple of system restores to points earlier in the month. And even removed from OEM loaded software which has been noted on Dell forums to possibly cause BSODs.

To date, laptop has always been able to load back into windows. However, on last but one crash (happens about once a day, randomly, no pattern re usage or applications being run), just got the command prompt with message that system 32 is corrupt, and couldn't load windows.

Ran some further tests, one reported that the NTFS HDD volume was dirty, but other diagnostics (Dells and the HDD drive manufacturers (Hitachi) utility report nothing wrong with hard drive), though Checkdisk says there's a bad sector.

Was about to follow laborious process of using Recovery Console and OS CD to repair registry, get into windows via safe mode, over-write a recovery point and activate an old system restore point, when, trying a reboot one last time, have got into windows again. But aft... Read more

I am running into a problem where my Windows XP keeps corrupting.

The first round after corruption, I used my windows installation disk and the repair option was not offered and the NTFS was gone, as if Windows disappeared. In an effort to salvage any data, I installed a new Hard Drive and then installed Windows XP again on the new drive; however within 2 days, this Hard Drive gave me the blue screen, which I couldn't see the error as it moved to fast and upon restart to repair the only option was to reformat.

Any idea what would cause this? I updated my bios for my ASUS P5n32e-sli as well as the chipset, but I am truly clueless as to what could have caused this.

This morning upon starting up, chkdsk found errors and did it's thing but at the end, gave me an error message, error unknown.

Any direction or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've posted this question on other forums and so far, no one has been able to help. I have an XP SP3 desktop, Time Warner cable modem, LinkSys WRT310N V2 router. I also have a Win7 laptop connected to the router.

From time to time, usually once a day, but sometimes, more often, and ONLY on the XP computer, I lose all network connectivity. This includes the net and local mappings. When it occurs, I cannot raise the router (or anything) via HTTP, even using IP addresses. I can, however, ping ip addresses. I've tried recycling the router, but nothing except rebooting the computer helps.

When it occurs, the Win7 laptop is OK. HOWEVER, I did find that when my cell phone uses my wireless router instead of the cell tower, it has the same problems.

WHEN the WIN7 laptop connects via wireless, it has no problems.

Other problems also occur: For instance, on this site, I get "invalid URL" messages. And just a few minutes ago, when I tried to view my blog, I got invalid URL "/..." but now I don't.

I've run various anti-virus apps; nothing is amiss.

This is my second router.

RON

A:XP Network Corruption

There's is probably nothing wrong with your computer. If you can't access the Router setup even after recycling the power, with all computers, then there is a problem with the Router or Modem. The computers that are wired, try replacing the cable. If it persists, eliminate the router for a test. If a direct connection to the modem test good all the time, then it is the cable to the router, or the router itself. Try updating the Firmware for the router. Or go to the live support chat for Linksys.

So this has been going on for a while.

When I download an ISO file, the type that's compressed into a list of different RAR files of same name, I first need to extract them by extracting one of them, and then automatically the others get extracted.

Thing is, I always get a message that this and that files are corrupted.

I would also like to note:

1) If I give it a try once, I get a message that, for example, archive r.09 is corrupt. Then I cancel the entire operation, and get a message that r.31 is corrupt, while 09 is extracted normally. And so on and so forth! Which I find weird, as it mean that none of those single archives are really corrupt!

2) Also, I get this message on the archives with which I had no problems say, a year ago. I though they got corrupted because of standing on my HDD for too long, so I redownload them with same effects!

Any diagnosis guys? Using Win XP.

Since then Internet Explorer will not open any websites, and System Restore gives an error “System Restore has encountered a problem and needs to close. Do you want to send an error report……..”.
Firefox is also installed on this computer and works fine. I can do without IE but am concerned about not having System Restore.
I have tried the following:
Ran ewido malware removal, Spybot and Ad-Aware (all in Safe Mode), system was clean.
Ran Trend Micro Housecall, system was clean.
Ran ccleaner.
HiJack This had a few “nasty” entries but removing them made no difference.
Ran sfc /scannow.
Repaired Internet Explorer and System Restore using the command line “rundll……” commands.
Reinstalled SP2.
Turned off all Startup programs via msconfig.
Turned off all Internet Explorer Add-Ons.

I can ping everything ok.
I’m pretty much out of options other than a Repair Install of XP. I have about 30 gig’s of family photos on here that I need to back up first. Any other suggestions?

I did an update for BIOS for my HP ENVY 15-j049TX from HP's website itself. The installation somehow was not a success. While installation, the computer shut down (or restarted) and now it won't boot up. All I see is a black screen. I had to remove the battery. When I turn on with Start+B pressed, the caps lock LED blinks 2 times every second(indicating the BIOS error). So I did my search on the internet and I downloaded HP UEFI Support Environment and installed it into a USB stick with my desktop pc. This formatted the USB drive and turned it into HP_Tools. It formed a folder Hewlett-Packard with 3 folders, one of them is BIOS with subfolders New, Current and Previous. I am currently running Windows 2000 SP4 and have run into a huge problem. I had my computer off for about 3 days and I go to it today and boot up. Everything seems normal but once I log in it says something like "Could not open environment section in Registry. Logging in as normal user." I hit ok and was surprised to see that only the standard icons on my desktop were showing up. Nothing in my taskbar or quick launch bar. I decided to do a manual check of my registry with Regedit.

Upon further investigation I found that there are alot of keys and values missing from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER (I checked this by logging into my computer with my brother's account). Then, when I try to go to My Computer->Properties->Advanced Tab and then click on the Environment varibles button, I get an error message that says "Cannot open USER environment section in Registry. Possible corruption." I cannot do any actions in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key. I check both Google and MSDN and nothing has come up. I am backing up everything just in case I need to format and reinstall windows. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmmm....this 'might' work, depending on how 'friendly' windows was feeling. If it logged your bootup as abnormal, then restarting, hitting F8 at the right time, and choosing 'Last Known good configuration' "might" (and I say that hopefully) just fix the problem. If not, then looking at what you have said, you might just need to reinstall. However, don't do that until someone else has looked at the problem. They might be able to fix the reg for you.
