I will buy a ProBook 4540s (Intel i5) very soon. At a lot of places on the Internet, it had been mentioned that it supports upto 8GB DDR3 RAM. But, on a details page at HP site, it had been mentioned as "16GB". So, I'm a bit confused here, though I guess that it might be 8GB. I want to know about this for sure. Thanks
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Compaq Presario CQ5726FWindows 7 64-bit I need to add additional RAM since the HD is crunching like crazy all the time and performance is too slow. Which specific parts did you use?

If the U410 has two RAM slots, why is it not possible to upgrade from two 4gb chips to two 8gb chips for a maximum of 16gb? What prevents the other 8gb from being supported?
Based on the spec of U410 the maximum supported memory is "8GB max/ PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3, non-parity,dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets - * System automatically clocks down for processors with 1333MHz DDR3 memory controller". Based on this the maximum memory to be used in a system is dependent on the processor used. You may want to dig some more info on this issue, so head on to Intel's website and lookup your processor model number to determine the maximum memory that it is capable of addressing. And there are numerous questions similar to yours if you search their forum.Read other 8 answers
Looking into buying the Lenovo 510s, I see "Up to 8GB" listed as supported memory. However, I've done some research and some Lenovo laptops, while they also only support 8GB of memory officially, can be and have been safely upgraded to 16 GB of RAM. My question is: Is this true of the 510s? The CPU specifications page from Intel for the 6200U/6500U both say 16 GB is no problem, and Crucial even has a 16GB dimm listed as "guaranteed compatible" for this model--I'm not sure, though, if this means it will work but only recognize 8 GB or if 16 GB is truly Ok. Is there any reason 16 GB could not be used? Perhaps some motherboard memory controller limitation? I would love to have some input on this before deciding on whether or not to purchase this laptop. Hi, I ordered PAVALION 15-AU116TX laptop and I have below questions for the Memory upgrade. 1) It has 7th Gen Core i5 and I went through the specs for that(http://ark.intel.com/products/95443/Intel-Core-i5-7200U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz). It clearly says that processor can support upto 32GB of RAM. - When I checked with HP Consumer support they informed me that maximum supported memory is 16GB only. Can you please clarify on this? 2) If I install additional memory(considering it'll support 32GB, I'm planning to add 16GB of additional memory) will my warranty be void? 3) What is the motherboard configuration with above laptop? Regards,Ankur
@ankurtr? Your correct that 16GB is the maximum memory supported for your laptop. As far as warranty goes some say it would void the warranty some say it would not. I think of it as this if you add the memory yourself and nothing gets damaged then the warranty is still good. But if you damage something doing it yourself then the Damage is not covered. Attempted to up-date to Windows 10. Couldn't do it. Microsoft (MS) Tech tried to do it and couldn't do it. It seems there are some security tools that must be removed as they are incompatable with Windows 10. MS tried to remove and couldn't do it. He said they were on the mother board and when he tried to remove them they just kept coming back so once again he couldn't do it. He said contact HP and they could do it. Unable to find anybody at HP that can do it. As you can see nobody can do it so I guess it just cannot be done. That is unless some fine person out there has discovered a way to do it. I found that my Probook 4540s sometimes cannot boot. I have to use the trick applied to 4530s: remove battery, press power button for 40s, put the adapter. Sometimes the trick works, sometimes it doesn't. Is this a bios issue? Any solution for this?
Well did you try reseating the memory? Has the computer worked since you have upgraded the memory? Also are the memory chips the same speed? If your running two different speed chips it could cause this issue. ThanksSeanRead other 10 answers
Hello! My ProBook 4540s was working fine until a half hour ago, when I unplugged it to move it and then attempted to plug it back in, and it stopped charging. When plugging in the power cord (that came with the ProBook when I bought it around 18 months ago), the light above the power jack (and no other lights) flashes white 9 times. I've tried following this fix I found on Google: 1. Turn off the notebook2. remove the battery3. remove the charging adapter4. press + hold the power button for 40 seconds5. insert the charging adaptor only6. press the power button and it supposedly continues but I get stuck at this point, because even plugged in, my ProBook won't start up without the battery in also. Is this a know problem/is there a fix for this?

I have a new ProBook 4540s notebook that I shut down over the weekend. I am not sure if I put it into hibernate, sleep, or what as I am still getting use to it. When I tried to turn it on (not plugged in) I got nothing. So I plugged in the power cord and hit the power button again. All it did was the LED above the cord plug blinked about 8 times and nothing else. I let it "charge" overnight and tried again in the morning. Nothing but a blinking LED. I Googled the problem and it said to take the battery out, unplug, and hold the power button down for 20 seconds. I plugged it back in but left the battery out, and still the same thing - flashing LED. HELP! Thanks.

My laptop is running Windows 10 64-bit.
For the past few weeks my laptop has been turning off unexpectedly.
I've tried with battery only. With battery and power cable and with battery removed and only power cable.
I am using the machine normally and then screen just goes black and power offs - no restart, no hibernation, no shut down. Just instantaneously off.
It's not overheating. Could it be a fan issue?
I don't know - but it's getting quite irritating as I often have many apps open and many files open on each app and takes me 30 mins to get back to where I left off.
Is this the same problem as the thread you have posted or is it a different one.
the touchpad of my 4540s i5 freezes after some time of working.this happens from time to time.i unstalled Synaptics TouchPad Driver and restalled but probles is the same.OS windows 8(64bit)
I understand that your touchpad will freeze.
Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
Run the startup test.
This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.
If the entire test passes, turn off the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.
When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

I have problem, Bios password forget.
Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility 2. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.
