I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you have desktop programs which require java to run then the best thing you can do is disable it's browser functions, this can be done by the method described on the following page, that way java can still run for those who need it as an environment for their desktop programs, but it will not be vulnerable as a browser plugin.

Updated Java to v7 Update 11, websites that use java are coming up with a security warning asking if I want to run this application? It says:

An application from the location below is requesting permission to run.
Location: www.time.gov/.../java Then I have to click "Run" so the program will complete.

I get the same thing when going to
How do I test whether Java is working on my computer?
and
Java Tester - What Version of Java Are You Running?
to test my version of Java.

This never happened before, is there anyway to disable this?

I assume that this security check was installed by Java 7 Update 11 because it did not start until I installed v7.11.

I checked this PC before I updated and no security question, after I updated I get the security question.
I updated my PC at work first and that is when I noticed this had started, came home and tested this one before updating so it must be v7.11 that is installing this test or whatever you want to call it.

I've been doing some reading about Java and how it relates to system security and vulnerability. Been thinking about removing it altogether, but not ready to do that just yet. I would at least like to make sure my Java is set to check for updates every day. However the Update tab is missing from the Java Control Panel.

I'm currently running Java SE 6 Update 33 (just updated today), and in Control Panel it says it's the 32-bit version. This is on a Win7 x64 machine. Do I need to get the 64 bit version?

Should I be using Java SE 6 Update 33, or Java SE 7u5?

A:Where is the Java Update tab in the Java Control Panel?

Nevermind, I noticed that I had both SE 6 Update 20 and Update 33 listed in Uninstall Programs. After removing 20, the Update tab appeared. So I set it to check for updates daily, and then hit Update Now. Now it has installed SE 7u5, and did in fact uninstall SE 6 Update 33.

Also the 64-bit version is only for 64-bit browsers, which I never use because I've heard they don't work that great with many web pages.

Hi Frank,

My understanding is that this environment is for application development suitable for the Sun Developers URL you provide in your second link. If you are not developing Java applicatons then one only needs to download the latest J2RE Runtime environment in order to run Java applications.

The latest J2RE environment is 1.5.0 update 4 available from here. The file size is 82KB. Unfortunately, I cannot find a separate JRE update 5 at the Sun Developers URL.

I'm running vista home premium 32 bit, on a dell inspiron 1525 laptop and have encountered all kinds of application errors since downloading and installing Java version 6 update 12 .
Would a system restore correct the issue? If so How would I make it the date of 2/10/2009 when my computer was running at it's best according to the performance and reliability logs.
I've tried uninstalling update 12 and reinstalling without sucess, what do you suggest? It was running very well with update 11 but that is no longer available.

I thought I might be infected with something but just ran super anti-spyware scan and it removed a bunch of ad-ware tracking cookies. I've tried to do anti malware scan but when I go to check the logs something sends me to windows media gallery??, And I don't know why. I have used this software sucessfully before (6 months ago) but had to do a complete install with drivers , and have just now tried to download this software again. all my updates are current except for SP1, which created a bunch of headaches. So I asked Microsoft to help me remove it. they did. that was almost a year ago.

Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - October 2013

Description

A Critical Patch Update (CPU) is a collection of patches for multiple security vulnerabilities. Critical Patch Update patches are usually cumulative, but each advisory describes only the security fixes added since the previous Critical Patch Update advisory. Thus, prior Critical Patch Update advisories should be reviewed for information regarding earlier published security fixes. Please refer to:

Critical Patch Updates and Security Alerts for information about Oracle Security Advisories.

Due to the threat posed by a successful attack, Oracle strongly recommends that customers apply CPU fixes as soon as possible. Starting Oct 2013, the Java SE Critical Patch Update will be released quarterly every year as per the main Oracle Critical Patch Update Schedule. After removing all previous Java programs as advised by flavallee in another thread, I installed the latest version of Java (v6 update 18) on my XP Home SP3 Dell inspiron 1501 Laptop. All is working normally except for one puzzling thing. A JRE icon now appears in the systray when I first launch my browser (FF v3.5.8) after startup or reboot. At least it did for the first 2 times I did a reboot. This time when I rebooted and launched FF it did not come up.

Things I've done...
1. Unchecked SunJavaUpdatesSched in AutoRuns
2. Set Update to once/month. This may be what changed it. got one occurrence after the change and reboot. Second reboot (this session), icon did not come up.

To be clear... the Java icon does not appear upon reboot and there is no entry in msconfig for Java. The icon does not appear when I go online (I'm on dial up) until I launch my browser. This may be a non-problem since it did not happen on my last reboot, but I thought I'd post anyway to see what others had to say about it.

BTW... I just prefer to minimize background programs on principle.

I have since run Ad-Aware and removed some malware and am using compatibility mode so this issue seems to have resolved for the most part though I am still having issues accessing websites. They freeze up, close down, some websites lose their formatting and come up as just text. When I click the browser back button it will not take me back, it will only refresh the current page I am on. If I click it twice quickly I am sometimes able to go back to google search. Programs that require Flash or Java are asking me to update it but when I check, I have the latest version. I read somewhere that this is related to the virus.Exploit:Java/CVE-2008-5353.CLocation: C:\documents and settings\user\application data\sun\java\deployment\cache\6.0\18\6eb74992-63fbfb59 myf/y/appletx.classTrojan:Java/Selace.KLocation: C:\documents and settings\user\application data\sun\java\deployment\cache\6.0\18\6eb74992-63fbfb59 myf/y/loaderx.classTrojan:Java/Selace.LLocation: C:\documents and settings\user\application data\sun\java\deployment\cache\6.0\18\6eb74992-63fbfb59 myf/y/trewsdf.classDDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by User at 5:06:07.58 on Wed 02/03/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1015.521 [GMT -5:00]============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:&#... A notification in the task bar says that there is a Java update available on my Windows XP professional computer and I click on it and it presents me with a message "Java installer requires a newer version of Windows." and I hit OK. but later in the day or another day, the same update available shows up with the same requires a newer version of Windows when I click on it.
Why is Java trying to update itself on a version of Windows that the newer version is not compatible with? how do I stop it from showing up?

A:Java update available - Requires newer version of Windows; repeat later

Hi Sylveon You should disable the Java Auto Updater program that is being launched on start-up. You can easily do that via the msconfig panel, under the Startup tab. Like for Java Update Scheduler and disable it. Once done, go in the Services tab, look for a service with the same name and disable it as well. That should do the trick.

Hi Guys,

This one has been bugging me for the past few updates for Java Version 8 - the "Update" tab is missing for the Java Control Panel program.

This was (apparently) a bug in earlier version, but is supposedly fixed.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and have had this issue with at least the last three updates to the Java JRE Version 8 64-bit.

I've tried uninstalling, cleaning the registry and making sure any leftover Java-related files are gone, but once I reinstall Java, the problem is still there.

Can anyone else confirm this issue?

Cheers,

Mike.

My Zone Alarm program has picked up two viruses in the space of about a week, Exploit.Java.CVE-2009-3867d six days ago and Trojan-Downloader.Java.Agent.cf today. * After the first, I updated and ran Malware-Bytes and online ESET virus scan. Computer was apparently clean. Zone Alarm was set to do a full scan only every month (! and I'm sure I set it to scan daily.) There are no scan logs for either the ZA antivirus or firewall.* After the downloader trojan appeared, I updated and ran Malware-Bytes, and again it showed no infection. I've run DDS (log attached), but GMER is not running for me. The error message is: C:\windows\system32\config\system: The system cannot find the file specified.I assume it's not working because the computer is set up as 64-bit.Because of this, only Services, Registry and Files are checked. I ran it anyway, and for what it's worth, it said no system modifications were detected. The system is a Toshiba Satellite A500 running Windows 7 - 64-bit.DDS file:DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSX64 Run by Cathy B at 21:57:54.84 on Fri 02/07/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.7600.16385Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7600.0.1252.61.1033.18.4061.1818 [GMT 10:00]SP: Spybot - Search and Destroy *enabled* (Outdated) /coloro3SP: SUPERAntiSpyware *disabled* (Updated) /coloro2============== Running Processes ===============C:\windows\system32\wininit.exeC:\windows\system32\lsm.exeC:\windows\syste... Whatever I do to update java 6.0.18 to 6.0.20, I get the same error code:
"1606, could not find network location :. " (It is a stand alone computer, and no network installation.)
I get this message with online update by jucheck
I get it with online update with jxpiinstall.exe
It get it with the offline installer : jre-6u20-windows-i586-s.exe

And even more comprehensible, I get this error message if I try to uninstall Javan6.0.18
(I thought I make a clean installation after, but that is impossible too.)
the update from 6.017 to 6.018 went easy without any manual handling required.

I use: Vista sp2, on a Acer Aspire 5810T

Hi -

See if Revo can take out ALL existing Java installations --> http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_..._download.html

Also try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility --> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Let Java check your Java installation --> http://www.java.com/en/download/dt_v...s_jre=1.6.0_18

Hi

I am currently having an issue with my Java application bundled as an executable for deployment purposes. The application (or JVM) crashes after some activity (15-20 minutes). I have tried using tools such as VisualVM and YourKit Java Profiler to check for memory leaks and heap allocation but nothing seems to be out of place. For every crash, a log is written to Windows Event Logs. See summary below:

Code:

Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.14393.479, time stamp: 0x5825887f

I have looked up the exception code online and I found out it corresponds to heap corruption. How can I find out what exactly is causing this heap corruption?

I've lost too much productive hours trying to fix this. Any help will be greatly appreciated

First get the latest version of Java. I'm not sure if you're using the Development Kit, but if so, update that also.

Hello,

I recently had the two Trojan virus warnings caught by my AVG Anti Virus - It says they were deleted but ever since I have had erratic, slow and error messages popping up on Firefox and Chrome. Can you please help me to see if something is still in my machine? I ran Malware Bytes - nothing found - then ran a full scan with AVG and again nothing. The machine just does not perform like it was at all.

Thank you for any help - Jeff
