Can't view WMP Streaming video since I upgraded to Vista!

Q: Can't view WMP Streaming video since I upgraded to Vista!

Hey All

Ok I have done EVERYTHING i can possibly find on the net to fix this problem. I am using Firefox 2.0.0.11, Netscape, Safari and IE 7 NONE of them will play any Windows Media Streaming Content. I have installed plugin after plugin that are suppose to fix these problems but no luck at all.

For example, when I go to TSN.ca and click on any of their videos I get an error that says

"Firefox users need to install the following ActiveX compatibility plug-in:
Windows Media Player ActveX plug-in
To begin the installation, you may need to add our site to your list of trusted sites."

So I go ahead and install it and it still dosent work.

Then I try to listen to my Sirius Satellite Radio online, and I can push the play button and it just sits there says I am missing a application/x-oleobject

I have no idea what the problem is, I can listen/watch my Windows Media Player 11 for DVD's and Cd's no problem, just will not work with streaming video. Anybody have any other suggestions??

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Can't view WMP Streaming video since I upgraded to Vista!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Did you have any earlier codecs or plugins which might conflict with Vista before you upgraded?
Is WMV files associated with the correct program?
Have you tried VLC Media Player from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ ?

Windows 8 was working flawlessly. When I upgraded to Windows 8.1, my IE started flipping out and then my NVidia drivers crashed (Windows gave me a "Video drivers stopped responding" message). Thinking the whole thing was fubared, I did a clean format, installed Win8, and updated to 8.1 without installing gfx drivers. Once I had updated to 8.1, I then installed the drivers and everything is running smoothly.
The only problem I'm having is on sites like YouTube and in metro apps that stream media like Netflix. The content starts out fine and then after few minutes of playing, halts -- nothing is responsive at that point. The mouse cursor moves, but CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't work, and if I have the task manager open before-hand on the second monitor, it too freezes and becomes unresponsive. CPU fan doesn't spin up any faster so the cpu is not being 100% used. After hopelessly clicking around the screen, everything jumps back to life as if nothing happened after a couple minutes of being frozen.
I thought because Netflix have moved to IE11 HTML5 rendering that it was some how IE11 problem, I played youtube in Chrome browser and ran into the exact same problem. If I don't stream any video, everything works perfectly fine -- I've been using this IE11 instance for an hour now, browsing reddit, etc. and it hasn't frozen once. But if I go to YouTUbe and play something, it'll lock up in a few minutes.
I havn't tried playing any video through... Read more

Definite possibility. Install or reinstall the latest network driver from your PC (or motherboard) manufacturer's web site. Of course, if you are using an external network adapter you need to get the latest driver from the adapter manufacturer's site.

I cannot even see the video on my own Myspace page!

I have tried this in three browsers. I cannot watch streaming video from any source, such as Windows Media, or Youtube.

I am running XP Pro on a computer that is quite old...but used to run streaming video just fine.

HELP!

A:Help! Can't view streaming video!

Go to a page that has a streaming video that you can't watch.
Windows Media Player opens a black screen.
Put your cursor in the middle of the balck screen.
Right click
A panel will open for you to set up the options, partic. the protocols for receiving the video.

For some reason, I am no longer able to view streaming video from any place on the web. It used to be just Launch.com, but now it doesnt matter where, I cant get anything. I have checked all the security and scripting settings, tried turning off Spysweeper and Pc-cillin real time agent, and still no dice. I am running xp sp2, and the only firewall is my Linksys router (xp firewall is off). Any help on this would be great. Thanks

A:Unable to view Streaming Video

Does this occur with any other media players?

I know the normal streaming video options usually include support
for Quicktime, and Real Media Player. Try downloading either of those
and see if you can access the streaming video. If you can
then we know it's Windows Media Player that maybe corrupted.

Good Luck.

Using IE8 Windows XP operating system. I cannot open and view any streaming video on Yahoo home page.
I have attempted settings resets of active x, scripting, video accelerators etc, as advised by yahoo help on three occasions with no change.
I can load MSN as a home page and the video streams load and play normally.
I am using a Verizon laptop wifi card to access the internet.I use Zonealarm firewall and popup killer but have tried system with these turned off with no change.
Occasionally I will be able to load and view a yahoo stream but it is only temporary and not repeatable.
I have changed browsers from IE to Firefox with same results.

Please give me some new ideas to rectify this problem.

Hello all,

I recently upgradded my Windows Media player to 10.

In WMP across the top there are several tabs. The last of which is video. Clicking on this I see screen shots of videos with a link beside it that says "play video".

I assume this is free, streaming video. Is this correct?

I cannot play this.

I click on the link and the screen goes black as you would expect, very briefly then the screen goes white. The status bar says "playing" but the screen just stays white.

The progress bar moves as if I'm watching a 9 second video playing on a loop. As it does this the status bar alternates between saying "playing", then "playing playlist: Playlist 5", "clip c",

I went into the MSN Entertainment Download Troubleshooter and everything comes up fine except "Digital Rights Management Test" which comes back as unsuccessful.

I don't know if these two things are connected, but suspect they are.

All the other media I have that I previously had plays fine with no problems what so ever.

Any ideas?

A:Cannot view streaming video in Windows Media Player 10

Can you stream audio?
The 9 second clip that recycles sounds like a sample video.
I'm guessin' that the DRM test result is 'cause you're not subscribed to anything.

Hi! Somehow, last week while I was sleeping, I lost the ability to view Netflix instant movies, TV Shows from sites like ABC.com and TNTtv.com, news video from Yahoo and CNN and also cannot hear the broadcast from my local radio station's web site (it's too fuzzy on my stereo). I use IE 6.

I first contacted Netflix support - 3 times - because that's where I initially encountered the problem. When trying to view films I got a Digital Rights Management error. The support people ran through all of their options with me. I also spent the week searching the Internet for solutions. I uninstalled (rolled back) Windows Media Player then installed WMP 11, reset Digital Rights Management, attempted to update my sound driver and maybe more.

It seems my OS is not recognizing the DRM reset. We tried renaming the file to "hide" it, but that hasn't worked.

Because I am unable to view TV episodes on several sites, Yahoo and CNN news videos, and cannot listen to the radio site (though I can hear general sounds on the PC ) the Netflix support people admitted they'd run out of ideas and advised me to contact OS support.

I welcome any ideas or suggestions. Thanks!

Ok, I originally posted this issue under Vista, prob should have been there to start.

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I frequent a local news website where they fly with a helicopter over news incidents and stream live video footage. They recently changed their website and I cannot see the video at all. Just a black box. They also have a shoutbox chat section which still works fine. If I switch over to my Dell w/XP, it's fine. It doesn't work whether I'm used IE, Firefox or Chrome.

If anyone needs to check it out, the website is http://www.myfoxny.com/subindex/video/skyfoxhd

I'm suspecting I'm either missing something that I need to d/l or have a setting that needs to be changed somehwere. What puzzles me is the page previously worked fine before they changed the site.

Oh and when I go to the website on my XP computer and right click on the video link, right on top of the options, it has Akamai Basic Player v1.0. On the Vista system, nothing comes up like that. Is this something I'm missing?

I'm really lost as to how to fix this.

Thanks!!!

Hey I wanted to get your opinion on this.

I got my wife a laptop for Christmas, it?s a Compaq c777cl

Our digital video camera is a sony trv22

We want to connect the camera to the laptop to capture the video which is on the mini dv tape.

I have done this already on my old desktop computer thru the usb port and it works fine. But my desktop has XP.

The new laptop has vista.

I have read that vista does NOT support usb streaming and that you need a 1394 port or whatever for a firewire

The laptop does not have this port. It also does NOT have a PCMCIA port or any other type of expansion port on it so a 1394 card which sells for only 20-50 dollars is not an option either.

So I?m stuck.

The only way to get video to this laptop is to put the camera in memory stick mode and then either hook it up (it will recognize the card as drive F) or remove the card and stick it in the digital media slot on the side of the laptop. But the problem with that is the video quality when using memory stick is not nearly as good as when you record like normal on the mini DV tape.

What would you do?

Well this problem has started just about 3 weeks ago. The whole computer will just become non-responsive, mouse and all! The are no symptoms that would lead up to the crash, (if you want to call it that) but i've narrowed it down to when i'm watching streaming video (youtube, dailymotion). That it what's running the majority of the time when the system crashes. It does also happens at random moments when i'm not even at the computer. Sometimes I can be on for hours and sometimes it happens in as little as 5 minutes.

Now I've done some general clean-up but the problem stil exists. I just feel that it started after I installed something but I can't figure out what it was being that I don't remember the exact date! I uninstalled a few programs from around that time but maybe they left behind something in the registry. Now I have experience with editing reg files but that's still one place I will not go unless I know EXACTLY what i'm looking for! Well there's really not much more I can say to describe this problem being that I haven't experienced this one before.

Now I already have the HJT log file ready to go! Any help aside from formatting would be GREATLY apreciated.

A:Vista freezes during streaming video

Well it looks like it is not just the streaming video causing the problem anymore. I have had it happen when Pandora is running on safari. Another theory might oddly enough be my phone. I have just purchased the HTC HD2 about 2 weeks ago.

The reason for this theory is becasue I had my phone hooked up via usb and as soon as i recieved a sms, the computer froze! I wanted to try and rule it out as just coincedence so I kept the phone off the computer and it ran problem free for about a day n a half. It froze once again when I had pandora running overnight. So now we can add these in as possibilities!

I gotta believe its a sound issue, I installed just the basic audio drivers on my MB disk since it comes with a Supremefx soundcard. Tried to get those drivers as well but they require the MB manual, which the guy who put together the computer still has.

Will typically stream for like 5 minutes before crashing. It's a brand new system so I don't have any antivirus yet, I'm willing to install a recommended type.

Thanks for any help in advance guys!

Like it says, every time I stream video online, it may work for 2 seconds or it could work for like ten minutes, but pretty soon I get a blue screen error. Often times it is this error:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
while other times it just says STOP with assorted data values, I looked at the most recent one right before this post, and here it is exactly...
NETIO.SYS - Address 87E1185E base at 87E0F000, Datestamp 47919103

Now, I have recently installed my new video card, a Radeon HD 4550, and thought it might be that. So I uninstalled the card and reinstalled it again, but the problem persists. I have looked up the netio.sys errors and have found that there is some hotfix available that may perhaps help me, though I haven't tried it. Should I do this?

I know this isn't too much information to go off of, but streaming video is my life, and I guess I'm praying someone has had the same problem and knows the fix.

Anyways, if anyone knows anything I should try to fix this, please please let me know, Thanx

A:Blue Screen Errors when streaming online video in Vista Home Premium

Identify what network card you are using and then get the latest drivers for it.

If this do not work do the same for your motherboard, and also be sure you download and install the latest drivers for your graphics card (not using any cd that came with it).

If you are overclocking anything try not to.

Just to rule out the problem test your memory -> www.memtest86.com

The hotfix I found was this one: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929547/en-us - and it seems its not excactly the problem you're having since you're experiencing bsod and the hotfix mentions only a 15sec delay of some sort.

Also be sure you're on the latest Service Pack level for your OS.

Verify that you do not have more than one firewall/antivirus program. Also, try to disable your firewall/antivirus to check if that helps.

If you are connected by wireless, try wired and vice versa (to see if it works with one of them, and not the other)

Check your Network Connection Properties and try to disable any items you do not need (like QoS, Low-level network analyzers etc.)

I recently installed Windows Service Pack 2, actually three times after reinstating my computer software to the original state by erasing and reinstalling the full software install CD on my computer's hard drive for Window XP Home. I have no problems playing games with my new FX 5200 Ultra video card by BFG, but I am at random times getting the annoying green screen that blanks out my videos I am streaming or playing(happens when I am streaming more often). Then after that happens usually, the computer reboots or shuts off. I never had this happen before. My computer's memory tests ok so why can I play games with this never happening but when I am streaming or watching video through Windows Media Player, etc do I get the "green screen blankout" and then often the shutdown of my computer? I have 512 MB of system memory and 128 MB of video memory! I use System Mechanic and it shows I have at least half of my memory even during playback so what is the problem here? I can attach my system computer file of my information if you like in an e-mail if it will help. AND YES I HAVE THE DIVX CODECS. I thought about that to and uninstalled and reinstalled them with the same random problems. PLEASE HELP ME. This is really annoying.

A:video playback and streaming. Video card problem or software?

Well, it seems u dont have a hardware problem. this problem occurs only when u r watching videos. so i guess its the media player. take my suggestion, stop using it. Download this pack: KLite Codec Pack. I think the latest version is 3.2. Its got all the codecs u need to play compressed videos, and dvds. Its also got an advanced media player which can play any video u open it with like wmv, dat, mpg, rm, mov, avi, divx..... of course, the codecs for these formats r included in the pack.

This has been happening on and off ever since I started with Win 10 and its always very annoying .

System just hangs, no error message, no bsod, just complete freeze and loud hum.

I cant say I can remember having issues watching youtube videos, its the streaming of live content such as filmon. Sometimes I can watch filmon for days and not have the issue and then randomly it will start again. Today I was watching hypermole playing on twitch tv (live) and it just happened. Getting tired of it.
I can also report having all my video content display as a green screen after using hyper v although that may be totally unrelated.

As far as I am aware, I'm using the latest drivers for my graphics, I always try update everything. I have attached the log files as requested.

A:Hang up/Crash when streaming video, especially live video

Hi m1a1t,

Welcome to the 10forums

I'm not a specialist when it comes to freeze problems, but I do have a tip (or 2 when talking about reverting back the changes)
IObit software is known for causing problems, I would highly recommend that you remove it and revert back the changes it made when it comes to drivers.
DB3 may install corrupted or the wrong drivers what may cause problems,Malwarefighter is IMHO garbage,Advanced SystemCare may cause more harm than good
About the uninstall program I can't tell you anything, because I have no experience with it and I prefer to keep it that way.

Hello. I am trying to watch live video on nbcolympics.com. When I load a video, the advertisement comes up and plays, then when the streaming loads, the video goes black, but I can hear the audio .

Any suggestions? I'm running an intel i7 on Win7 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 58XX graphics card. I have tried upgrading my drivers, to no avail...

A:Solved: Streaming Video - Audio, no Video

I found the solution on another website - disabling hardware acceleration by right clicking on the video and going to 'settings' resolves this issue. Then the browser needs to be restarted.

Apparently its a fairly common problem with the current Flash build.

A:Just upgraded video card but!

Did you uninstall your old graphics card drivers and applications first? Thats the usual cause of the problem you describe.
If not there are several ways to fix this but it'd take a while to explain, so let me know if you think it is the cause and i will help further.

Another question: The specs on my mobo (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=KM3M-V&class=mb )say that it supports four memory banks and a maximum memory size of 2 GB....yet I only see two slots to insert said memory into. How can this be?

When I built my system a few months ago I had a Celeron G540 and I thought the Intel HD Graphics 1000 was pretty decent. When the i3-2105 was $25 off at Newegg I bought it because it has Intel HD Graphics 3000 and I thought it'd be better. The CPU is much better but the graphics seems to be the same.

My sis saw me leaning forward to read the text and mentioned it. I didn't realize I was doing that but I thought my 17" monitor was too small. It turned out that the text is somewhat blurry so I ordered a Sapphire HD 6670 video card and a Seasonic 550w Bronze because I wasn't sure if my Corsair CX430 will handle more wattage. I'm playing it safe.

Got the stuff today and installed them. Blew me away, good lord! The text is lot easier to see and the video's much better as I can see more detail.

So the Intel HD Graphics is that bad? Jeez.

EDIT: by the way, the resolution is 1280 x 1024.

A:Bought a video card (and upgraded the PSU)

For 2D stuff like what you're talking about, onboard video like that should be more than good enough and clear enough. Blurry text is usually a sign that the monitor is not in its Native Resolution.

Also, the CX430 would have been major overkill for this video card.

I have a HP zv5160 laptop. There is 512MB of shared RAM leaving only 386 MB for processing. I went to HP's website and it said a 512MB 333 MHZ DDR SDRAM would fit this machine. I purchased a Kingston 512MB DDR SODIMM for notebooks, KVR33320/512R. I swapped the existing 256MB that was accessed through a panel on the bottom and put in the new 512MB and when I booted the machine up the screen was blank. I had to remove the battery to shut down. Put the old memory back and still no screen. Any ideas why this may have happend and how to fix?

reseated memory, it is now ok!!!

To put this shortly, I had a Nvidia 8800 GTS and decided to upgrade to an ATI Radeon HD5870. When I put the HD5870 in the computer and try to turn the computer on my monitor wont recognize it (just goes to standby). However, everything in my tower is running (all the fans, even the HD5870 fan is running). I replugged the 8800 GTS and it worked again.

Computer Specs:
OS: Windows 7
Motherboard: p5n-e SLI
Power Supply: 800 Watts
Graphics Cards: Stated above
Ram: Kingston 4gigs

A:Just upgraded video card, now my monitor won't work

Did you remove the nVidia software and drivers first? You need to do that with the 8800GTS still installed, then shut down your computer, and install the new GPU, then reboot and download the new drivers for your card for amd.com and install them.

I presume you also have the power connectors fitted to the new GPU when running it as well?

In 2005 I proudly bought this PC new from circuit city (remember them)... it was either the most expensive or second most expensive PC avail, and it keeps on ticking like a fine watch (YAY HP!).  Really has been the perfect pc... enough usb ports, media card slots, etc.   Looking for a replacement/upgrade from the nvidia geforce 7300 that came with the machine... obviously something cheap/used/out of current date. The graphics were getting a little slow, so i bought a card from ebay (dont recall) and it had a taller profile, requiring me to remove a sound card so that it could fit. Vid speed improved immensly but i gave up sound lol.   I only use the pc for web surfing and some light ms office stuff.  Specs... Intel E6400 (duo core?). The PC is stock except for the upgraded 500w ps (corsair cx500), and maxed out the memory. I 'F-disked' the system years ago to solve for too many reg errors or a virus, didn't do the back up disks when new and local tech support guy gave me a win 7 os that says is not genuine (but works).  Please dont answer with 'buy a new pc'... i will at some point, and it will be an HP (guaranteed)... but it has become a point of pride to keep this one going, and it works suprisingly well.  thanks!!!

Hello,

I am brand new to this website and I was just looking over these great forums. I have a question.... I dropped my computer off at a local computer shop near me and they upgraded my video card for me. I had a Radeon 4650 in there and now it is a Radeon 6450. I went to play a little bit of saints row the third and it is lagging like CRAZY! I had no problems running this and I used the can you run it? program developed by amd and i used to pass with flying colors, now im a little over minimum. What could be happening!?

A:Upgraded video card... performance drop?

Take it back and get your money and the old card back.

I want to ask how much did you pay for the "upgrade?"

i had a radeon x700 pro(laugh if you must)

and i recently upgraded to a radeon 2600 pro hd

now all of my games are running slower

i uninstalled all of my drivers for the x700 and installed all the new ones for the 2600
i cant seem to make my games run on directx 10, while the 2600 is supposed to be compatible
yes i downloaded and installed it, i just dont know how to make the games change to using 10

plus, the 2600 pro is running my games such as call of duty 4 and counter strike source much slower than before,
with call of duty, with the x700, it run good
with the 2600 even on very bad settings its uplayable with lag

im using catalyst control center, and i have it set to use the games setting

A:Upgraded video card running worse than old

huh, no need for us to laugh at the X700 look at my specs, i run most my games full at 1600x1200. i am actually going to purchase a HD2600 tomorrow i hope we see what is wrong with this.

The only solution i can offer are the latest drivers from ATI site. as for the games running DX10 only DX10 games will run in DX10 and under Vista.

If you have Vista and the HD2600 and say a DX7 game it will run in DX7. Even with DX10 installed.

You can google for the Alky project if you want DX10 in XP, or at least game compatibilty.

Hi! Some time after I'd installed Windows Media Player 11, audio stopped working when watching a streaming video (like CNN Pipeline etc.). Some servers offer a RealPlayer stream as well and there's no problem watching that, but when the stream is in Windows Media Format, the WMP plugin in Firefox is used and I can watch it, but I can't hear anything. I downloaded&installed Windows Media Codecs from Microsoft.com and it didn't help. I uninstalled WMP11, but the previous version (WMP10) does the same.

When I copy the address of the video stream and open it in VLC Player (or WinAmp), it works fine, so there must be some problem with WMP.

Does anyone of you know what to do? Or is there any chance of changing WMP Plug-in in Firefox for a different one - i'd like to be able to watch streaming videos embedded in wep pages as before.

A:Streaming Video & WMP

solved... reinstalled my codec pack and everything runs smoothly.

Apparently I know even less about this than I thought I did. If I can watch a TV show on my computer screen, how can I record it - either as data to burn to a disc or on an adjacent VHS machine. I can get the audio out the speaker jacks, but how about the video. Can I get it (or both video and audio) through a USB jack? What minimal software might I need.? I don't plan to do this on a large scale, but I missed something with my TiVo andI'd like to watch something that will available for only a few more days. Would appreciate any help and advice -- also about downloading movies. What should I read?

Thanks,

John Farris

Chances are pretty good that the kind of stuff you're looking to record is protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM) meaning it's not recordable. There are programs that claim to record DRM protected videos but none of them work. I am assuming you're talking about something like Hulu as opposed to Youtube.

Hi

I am trying to watch some video streams, my computer plays them but after about 5 minutes it stops working and the when I move the mouse there are pink strips appear on the screen and the colours are not right.

Also if I try to convert video after a short time, anything from a few seconds to a few minutes everything on the screen freezes inluding the mouse. I normally use AVS video converteer but have tried others and other videos but it still freezes.

I am using windows 7 and ie11, 2GB ram. AMD athlon64 X2 3GHZ

A:video streaming

Sounds like the PC is overheating. Video conversion will typically use 100% of the cpu, thus generating heat. When was the last time the PC was cleaned of dust and dirt?

hello,
How can i download streaming video from a website on to my computer? Instead of the video passing through a buffer, i want to store it on my hard drive... how can i do this?!?!?!?!

A:streaming video

In alot of instances you can't because they purposefully setup the webpage code and delivery method of the video so you can't download the file. About all you can do is right click on the video link and then select "Save Target As". Depending on how the page and delivery method is setup, you may or may not actually get a video file. You have to try it and see.
