Thinkcentre Edge 92z all in one to install msata?

Q: Thinkcentre Edge 92z all in one to install msata?

I have a thinkcentre edge 92z all in one (3426C2B).There is some trouble of the windows and I'm considering to reinstall the os.Then I wonder if I can add a msata ssd to it and install the os to it to boost the performance.I read another post here saying that it is possible. However, when I asked the local lenovo support via email, they just replied me with the Hardware Maintenance Manual saying that there is no msata slot so it is not support. Can someone please confirm the real picture.many thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is it possible to have both an mSATA and HDD drive installed on this device? I recently installed an mSATA with Win10 in to it but now it won't detect the HDD. It's definitely connected correctly as when I unplug the mSATA drive it boots from the HDD just fine. Is there a BIOS update or anything along those lines that will let me use both?

Hi, Got a ThinkCentre Edge72 that I am attempting to recover to factory settings. The partition drive with the Lenovo_Recovery is there, however pressing F11 on start up does nothing. I can access Windows System Recovery Options, when I try System Image Recovery, it is unable to find an image. Further inspection suggests that someone had installed a fresh copy of Windows by other means thus removing any Lenovo software/tools which I think might be what I'm missing to access the Lenovo recovery options correctly. Is there any tools avilable that may allow me to use F11 and use the Lenovo_Recovery Partition?  ThanksTom

Hi. I have a thinkcentre edge 72, Intel Core i5-3330s 3.20 GHz - Intel H61 - 4GB DDR3 - 1TB HDD - DVD/RW - Windows 7 Pro 64Bit One day on startup (from power button) it just ran the fans for a 1 second, and then shut down, then the fans ran again after about 4 seconds for 1 second again and shut down, and repeats. I took the thing apart, fiddled with connections, removed the ram and put it back in, then did the paperclip test on the powersupply.  The powersupply was giving out the required voltages on yellow, orange and red etc.  Powersupply fan runs.  Seams the powersupply is ok. tried removing almost everything from the motherboard - DVD, harddisk, fans, power button (shorted the startup from the connection on the motherboard). Seems to me either the RAM is no good, or the motherboard has a problem.  I don't have any suitable extra ram, so can't test that. I guess before I go out and buy a new motherboard has ANYBODY ANYWHERE had this problem with a Lenovo ?    Can Lenovo experts indicated what they think this might be ? If Not, how can I get my hands on a replacement motherboard? I'd rather not change/upgrade as I don't want to have to reinstall windows 7 or risk data loss.   thanks! Guy

Hello Walter,

Please update the BIOS which will resolve the issue.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/9qjy36usa.exe

You may also try the Windows registry setting. Kindly be careful while editing windows registry.
Have a look at the following registry location (note that you need to invoke regedit.exe with administrative privileges in order to make any changes in this location) and ensure that the value ClearPageFileAtShutdown is set to 0 (if it is set to 1, change the value to 0).

Hi All,  This is my first post on these forums and I have recently in the last couple of months purchased the above computer. I have made a couple of upgrades to it, in the form of an SSD hard drive and using the Crucial memory scanner I have upgraded the ram from 4gb to 16gb.  It now runs extremely fast indeed, but when I turn the computer on, when it posts it beeps twice, two short beeps, then continues to load windows 7 fine and works flawlessley.  I have been trying to diagnose the two short beeps upon startup for a few weeks now and am getting no where fast. I found the following article on these very forums but the suggestions dont seem to have made a difference to my situation.  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-E-H-K-M-Q-and-ErazerX/Lenovo-H330-2-short-beeps-at-power-up-but-... This issue can be intermittant, I would say it happens 6 to 7 times out of every 10 times the machine is turned on. Initially I wasnt getting any form of error on the screen at all, until I went into the BIOS, cleared the error log and rebooted the machine. Then I got the error as follows - Error 0162 : Setup data integrity check failure Now this error code does not seem to exist on the Lenovo website, I found the following links which were helpful in showing me all sorts of other codes and beep sequences, the first one lists the two short beeps and links to an error code list - https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/migr-46... Hello guys, I've got this problem:I've bought a second-hand ThinkCentre Edge 72 SFF desktop and a Lenovo Radeon HD 7450 graphics to go with it. Since it was an OEM Lenovo-branded card and originally available for this very computer as a CTO option, I thought "what could go wrong?" Boy, a lot. I Plugged the card in, installed the OS (Windows 8.1 x64) and the went to fiddle with the BIOS for a bit. That's where I stumbled upon this problem: when the graphics was installed, you couldn't disable CSM and enable Secure Boot, because if you did, you'd lose video. It took me a few tries and a BIOS update to find out what was causing the black screens. So I did some googling and found out Lenovo knows about this and they offer an official solution, which is a VBIOS flash - see here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/dk/en/solutions/HT081709 Great, huh? So I followed the instructions TO THE LETTER and read everything twice before acting, ran the AtiWinFlash, but got a flash error after a few seconds. Clicked OK, closed the prompt and restarted the PC. To this point I still had video output, however after the reboot the screen was black like when the secure boot was enabled before. So I pulled out the card to see if it's gonna run on IGP and it did, so I loaded BIOS defaults and double checked that CSM is enabled and Secure Boot disabled. Put the card back in to no avail, still no change, which kinda made me sure that the card is bricked. Since then I ... Read more

Hi,

Yesterday I received my Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge E73 and the first thing I did was update my Windows 7 professional. However, after it had rebooted about 3 times it froze on the 'loading windows' screen.

After a reboot, the startup repair launched and was restoring to a previous state. The pc rebooted and tried to do a CHKDSK but it failed and loaded the welcomescreen but froze with the message that winload.exe was damaged. Knowing about the system recovery partition I booted it at start and selected the option to restore the whole pc to factory state. Unfortunately, this happened.

I tried using a retail windows 7 pro-disc to repair the computer since the recovery partition shortcut (f11) didn't work anymore. However, it didn't even recognize that the old windows was there, untill I looked at the partition manager.

It seems the recovery partition is still intact but I can't boot to it anymore. Will it work if i delete the old windows7_os partition or do I have to do anything else? The bios is setup to start from the harddisk.

Thanks in advance,
Joeri

A:Is it possible to install mSATA in any of the P50 ...

Good day.

I suppose you could install an mSATA SSD into the 2.5" SATA space with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Micro-SATA-Cables-MSATA-ADPT-Adapter/dp/B004YKJ5TE

And while there appear to be mSATA-to-m.2 adapters, like this: https://www.amazon.com/mSATA-Mini-PCI-Adapter-Converter/dp/B00OQ1Y5UA, I think that the extra width of the mSATA wouldn't work in either of the m.2 slots without impinging on something.

I just read someplace that if you remove any memory you added (returning the unit to its factory state) it can solve this issue. Someone else suggested just letting it run... I'll try the first, then the second, because I am stuck.

Hi and welcome to the SevenForums!

One solution I can suggest to this is to use imaging software to create an image of your current Windows installation. Acronis True Image is one of the popular ones on here, but there are other programs that can do it such as Macrium Reflect.

Hi, Should be another way around I think. You can make mSATA SSD as disk 0 and normal SSD as disk 1. Install the second OS to mSATA SSD your machine would boot from the second OS first. I would install a larger (capacity) to the mSASA slot and use it as primary disk. The following article tells you how to make mSASA SSD as boot disk           http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/install-msata-ssd-tutorial Regards.

I'm trying to do a clean install on a Intel 525 series mSATA SSD on a Lenovo T520 via USB. W7Pro.

I've had the msata installed in the laptop, formatted, for a month. I wanted to make sure it was stable. Moved some files to it etc....ran Intel tools on it....stable!

Finallly decided to do a clean install via USB.
Removed HDD.
Booted to USB.
No SSD found (it is in the BIOS)
CMD prompt / disk part / list disk / clean
Back to setup
Disk is there but win refuses to install saying 'Computer may not support booting this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the BIOS.'

I don't see anything except SATA which is set to AHCI (w/no option to change it anyways)

A:Clean install on intel 525 msata

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install:

Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. I would use a fresh ISO written with tool in Step 2 as yours is in question.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"

EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failu... Read more

I upgraded my T530 from Windows 8.1 to 10 a couple months ago and it runs fine, but I'm running out of space in the 7,200 rpm 500GB drive so I puchased a 256GB Crucial mx200 mSata intending to perform a clean install and use it as my boot drive, then use the 500GB as the data drive.  I removed the 500GB spinner and have been trying to perform a clean install on the 256GB mSata for almost 2 weeks now.  I have gone through every permuation of uefi/bios settings and cannot get it to load the OS from the msata drive.  I have found a few posts from people describing the exact same problem on various model (x, t, w, y) Lenovo laptops that were shipped with an open wwan/msata slot who came to the consensus that booting was somehow disabled in their hardware, gave up and simply used it for caching.  However, I find too many posts with people successfully running mSata boot in Windows 8 & 10 that I refuse to give up. I have the latest firmware on the Crucial drive, latest bios on the T530, have tried loading from USB thumb drive & DVD, and I'm pretty sure that I have put the system into every possible BIOS setting configuration, AHCI, no secure boot, uefi priority, forced, legacy priority, allowed, etc.  I have access to a W530 and a W520 and the drive fails to boot in both of them also. I tried to force all 3 systems into as much non-uefi mode as possible in an attempt to install in MBR mode, but it always comes back with an error stating th... I have a cache drive and want to install it.  When I try it says "no boot drive" and just won't start at all.

A:How to install MSATA Cache Drive

So you have a hard drive in it and the computer has never has an mSATA drive in it before? Is the mSATA drive blank? Have you set the SATA mode in the BIOS to RAID?  Your service manual Have you tried tapping F9 as you power up to make sure the system is booting from the hard drive?

mSATA to 7 pin adapter for SSD or HDD: mSATA to 7pin SATA Adapter

reviews on Amazon.com: Amazon.com: Micro SATA Cables - mSATA to 7pin SATA Adapter: Electronics

I ordered a Dell XPS 8500 Special Edition desktop with a 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate OS installed on a 500GB Samsung 840 SSD and a 3TB HDD for videos/music/documents/etc. I want to install Windows 8 so that it will be a dual boot system along with Windows 7. Each OS will be on a separate SSD. I have an empty mSATA port. So, I've ordered a mSATA to 7 pin adapter like above to connect a 256GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD to and to install Windows 8 on it. I understand that this mSATA connector should make the 256GB SSD bootable.

The desktop comes with an OEM Windows 8 installation disk. I have a Windows 8 Pro upgrade disk. What would happen if I had to install Windows 8 a second time on the same SSD on the same desktop? I've read that the 8 Pro upgrade deletes the original OEM serial number. How would I install Win 8 again if I would need to for some reason? Would I have to purchase another edition of Win 8?

With the 3TB HDD, I would like to partition it so that both Win 7 and Win 8 can use it, but on separate partitions. How would I do this? Would it be like any partition? GTP?

Thank you for your help on this. I'm not well versed in computerology. I am a 61 year old rookie, so to speak.

You can only install one of the OS's (windows 7 or 8)

I have a Windows 8 Pro upgrade disk.

If you install Windows 7, You can upgrade your Windows 7 x64 with the Windows 8 upgrade, but to dual boot you will need the full version.

If available in your country or region, Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro System Builder products can be purchased at participating stores, you'll need to ask a sales rep for more info. This version doesn't include customer support.

I have a Sleekbook 4-1215DX.  Came with Win8.  Updated to Win8.1.  Win8.1 became corrupted.  I blew away ALL partitions on 500GB drive and 32GB mSATA, and installed Win10 onto the 32GB mSATA and I now have an empty 500GB SATA drive.  Although it appears to be working fine and boots very fast, which is good, I am unhappy with the arrangement and would like to get back to a larger C: drive on the 500GB SATA.  I do NOT have any recovery disks.  Before I spend $50 on HP Recovery Media, does anyone know what the partition layout should look like from factory? Currently, from Disk Management, I have a Disk 0 with the SYSTEM, Win10 recovery, the 32GB mSATA and the 500GB hard drive partitions.  And a Disk 1 with a 4GB partition and no drive letter?  I have no idea what this 4GB partition is??? I would like to ensure the 32GB mSATA is setup properly for its primary function, which was caching.  Does it make sense to get this back to factory partition settings first, and then just turn around and upgrade to Windows 10?  If I just blow-away all partitions again, and install Win10 onto 500GB drive, how can I ensure the mSATA is doing it job of caching?  Is there something more I need to do to "activate" the mSATA?  Does the Intel Rapid Storage Technology just find it and use it???

I hope someone can help. The computer--a new Lenovo Thinkpad X230 notebook, which came with Win8 Pro pre-installed on the 500GB HDD.I bought and installed a 256GB Micron mSATA SSD to the PCIe slot., with the intention of a clean install of Win 8 to the SSD as system drive, and use the HDD as a data drive.First of all, the Win 8 installation (from USB stick) would not accept the SSD as a drive to install Windows 8 to. On reading forums though, I tried removing the HDD from the laptop (fortunately, very easy to do on that model), and it worked, I successfully did a clean install of Win8 to the SSD. Very quick painless installation after that.A couple of problems remain though:1) I wanted to have the system reserve partitions with recovery options installed on the SSD too. Although one can do that from a USB stick, I find it good to have it built in to the system, the recovery options. (Not the manufacturer recovery partition. No interest in that.) Anyhow, from reading here I assumed that when one installs Win8 to a blank drive with nothing on it, that it will automatically create the necessary system recovery partitions. Anyhow, that did not happen. Why? In any case, how do I now after installation create those system recovery partitions on the SSD. (I have them on the HDD still, but I doubt it would work to copy them over somehow.)2) Before I re-attached the HDD, the system booted up fine from the SSD, with clean install of Win8 Pro. Certain problems arose though, after re-atta... Read more

A:A few Problems with Clean Install of Win8 on mSATA SSD

A couple additional remarks: First of all, a problem I have with this board. In looking at my message above, the different questions ae not nearly as clear as in the message as I wrote it. I separated paragraphis with line breaks, so that there was an empty space between each paragraph. The different issues I brought up were separated and clear. As I see the message above though, all line breaks have been stripped out, so it is one long run-on paragraph, and not as clear as when I wrote it. Can anything be done in the settings for the board, to allow line breaks to remain?Regarding the first problem mentioned, the lack of system reserved partition, I realized that when I first did the install, although the SSD was empty, no files, one large partition, there was that one partition on it, one volume. While booted through the HDD, I deleted the volume on the SSD, turned off the system, removed the HDD, booted up through the USB stick install, and re-installed to the unallocated SSD, and now there is a system reserved partition on it as well. I still have questions about that, however, as there is only one system reserved partition there (I think about 350MB), while on the HDD there is about 3, not counting the Lenovo Recovery Partition. (I backed up the latter for safety's sake, but do not want to install it to the SSD. However, i do want all the Windows recovery options, and wonder why there were a few such partitions on the HDD, and only one on the re-installed SSD? (I don't h... Read more

Hi
I have an XPS 8700 with 3 HD-slots and a mSata-connection. From the factory there is a 32 GB SSD in the mSata acting as a cache for my 2 TB HDD which is the system-disk. I also have 2 older HDD with data.
I want to install a new SSD-disk as boot disk - 500 GB. I am a bit confused about the use of the mSata-connection in my system, so I hope you can help me:

What is my best option:
- Buy a 500 GB mSata SSD disk and replace the 32 GB?
- Buy a 500 GB Sata SSD disk and use the standard Sata-connection? (I can easily upgrade my data HDD so I'll have enough roome for my data)

Also:
Are all the Sata-connections in my system the same speed?

Thank you for your help

A:Will install SSD in my XPS 8700 - should I choose mSata or Sata?

I would recommend using a standard SATA SSD, the reason for this is because the mSATA is the older version and not the one that is using NVMe (meaning there is no performance gain other than aesthetics). All SATA ports are SATA 3.  Here are some older posts with similar questions/results:LinkLink 2Best regards,Brad

The 1TB regular HDD in my out-of-warranty 17R-SE crashed so I bought a new drive to replace it. I am having trouble with the installation from the mSATA SSD drive and/or the IRST mode. 1)  What is the best configuration, RAID with IRST?  AHCI with OS on SSD?  And how do I go about doing a clean install of Windows 10 in that configuration?
2)  Where can I find explanations of the setting available in the BIOS?
I have the Inspiron 17R-SE-7720 with a 1TB HDD, PM830 32GB mSATA SSD, 8GB RAM, installing Windows 10 Education.

A:Inspiron 17R SE 7720 HDD crashed, install new HDD + mSATA SSD

You need to set the BIOS for RAID with IRST.  To run the OS from SSD, you'd need a larger capacity drive - 32G is just too small to run the OS from.
