I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Now there should be no problems with it's installation.
Hello, I have a laptop HP4530s with intel i5 processor blue sticker on palmrest and one red sticker with word "Radeon graphics".The model of CPU is i5- 2410 with 2.3 GHz. Now I know that ATI is producer of radeon graphics so naturally I thought that my laptop has switchable graphics and can choose between ATI video card and internal Intel HD. In device manager video card is recognized as mobile Intel HD graphics. I have tried to install ATI catalist drivers bu just as many people before me I experienced Blue screens until I didn't roll back the drivers from ATI. Motherboard chipset is Intel Sandybridge, and for the graphics I can find with CPU-z: Mobile Intel (R) HD graphics, clock 648 Mhz with 1155 Mbytes. My laptop currently uses internal graphics, but how to know if it has separated video card or not?IN my BIOS I have option "Switchable graphics" but I also have a question mark "?" next to it. So I'm not sure whether this laptop has another Video card or not. How can I really check this? Thank you!Read other answers
Hello to all, can you please help me decide if it is the time to change thermal paste on my CPU on laptop HP 4530s. I own this laptop for almost 5 years now and lately I noticed significant overheting. Ofcourse the fan is always ON. Attached please have a look at screenshot from Speedfan application. As you can see Core 0 (I guess this is CPU and sometimes reaches over 60 °C). Since fan was cleaned not so long time ago, I was thinking to give laptop to some specialist to disassemble it, remove heatsink and change thermal paste. I saw a lot of such videos on you tube. I have win 7 pro installed on this laptop and is mostly used for web surfing, MS office and youtube. What is your opinion? Thank you!Read other answers

hi there, i am fixing a friends old computer and the hdd was stuffed so i got a new maxtor diamondmax 9 for it. although once installing it i found out that it would only run in udma2 mode (checked it in another computer and it ran at full udma6)
so i suspect that the current bios cannot support udma5 or 6, so i am looking for a bios upgrade for it.
the bios string is 6A69RPRDC-00, the number on the actual motherboard is 35-C960-00-05
thanks for any help, i am really hoping i can make this board work at udma5 at least and not have to settle for udma2.
ps. i just found this
04/19/2001-i815-ITE87X2-6A69RPRDC-00 ITE87X2 + Winbond-W39A
if that is any help.
Old Machines.....(just like me... but can still perform to the max lol)
I your Bios has the option of udma up to 6 then generally the bios supports the Mode! and your problem is that the HDD does not support the mode (cant remember if you said it does).
You are probably using wrong criteria for bios upgrade search.
You Need the MB's Manufacturers Name or at least the MB Chipset and bios Manufacturers Name as well. go to the Computers muanufacturers website (you probably done that already) and search model.
otherwise Download a System info utility from Tech Spot, I use SiSoft Sandra or AIDA32.. (sandra might cause bluescreen on older machines).. Aida problably will have link direct to bios update site. hope this was of some help

its a bit lengthy and might not seem a really general question; but I guess Im only asking for basic understanding here:
Im occasionally getting the error 13 :
: The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.
I thought I would do a bios update. I googled it and found this,
when I go to the manufacturer website (here) , I cant see any batch file that the manual mentions, instead there is exe files to updating the version of bios. when i download and run them, I get the error saying that the file didnt install properly and if i want to redo it with the recommended setting. I tried checking the version of the bios externally with a software and it seemed its still the previous version. I tried reinstalling the update using the new settings, same old same old.
note: in the sony website it says:
This BIOS update must be installed before upgrading to Microsoft? Windows Vista? operating system. ( the computer was shipped in xp)
I have missed it.
anything I can do?
i want to update my bios ( i have asrock motherboard N68-VS3 FX ) and i am a gamer who interested in performance
i have bios ver 1.20
can i use the last bios update 1.70 ? or i have to download all the previous updates first
what i mean is the update cumulative ??
You only have to update the BIOS if you have a problem with the machine. I wouldn't advise you to update the bios becaause you only update the bios if you have a instability problem that warrants a BIOS flash or installed newer hardware that supports the mother board but its unable to boot with the newer hardwareFor exampleI bought a newer CPU (AMD 6100FX) with a newer motherboard socket AMD 3+ but when i installed it it didn't boot up because the CPU was newer than the manufacturer motherboard bios so that warrants a BIOS update. I look up your board and you have some newer versions of the bios but the current bios only improve windows 8 compatibility. The bios is a cumulative update you have to read the documentation for the exact BIOS version because you cant really tell what changes in these updatesBIOS updating can be risky because if you have experience a power issue or event your computer can become a paper weightRead other 11 answers

the motherboard is an abit IB9, i have already found the correct update for it, any help would be greatly appreciated
Is there a specific problem with your board that a BIOS update corrects? If not, I would leave it alone.
Here is a link from Abit that explains the flashing process in detail.
Additionally, it is reported that Abit ceased motherboard manufacture at the end of 2008. If you should encounter a problem with the flash and need to RMA the board you may or may not be able to do so. I would proceed with caution.
Hi i have just bought a new laptop as i fried the MoBo in my last one which i bought in the early days of Vista, not realising what system requirements were for Vista i landed up with a very under resourced in the hardware dept. laptop and i am shure my constant tinkering with the hardware caused the death of it. Which brings me to my query (now that i am overly paranoid about tinkering with hardware) i have been researching and have found there is very mixed opinion on applying Bios updates and was wondering what people here thoughts are? I have two pending Bios updates 1st addresses better support for SP2 and the 2nd improves system performance & LCD panel brightness.
and if i apply these updates do i need to do both updates or just apply the current one, any opinions would be greatfully received.
Bios updates are mutually exclusive (ie, you can only have one installed). I believe that most bios updates are cumulative so if you choose the newest one you should get both of these issues addressed.Read other 2 answers

I hope I'm posting appropriately. I'll try to be brief.
I've been having problems with my monitor lately. Squiggly lines appear around the lower half of the monitor and garble the image. Messing with the degauss and refresh rate seem to have no effect. The effect seems to be random, and from what I have read I assume it's just dying, but there is something troubling me. I ran the troubleshooter (which I don't think I've ever really done) and got to the point where it said I should update my BIOS. When I first had this computer assembled in 2k2, I had a problem which ended up being the BIOS and the folks that put it together updated it and its been that long since its been done. I've since installed a new video card and updated windows a fair amount in that time.
I'm trying not to be too verbose, but I want any helpers that may come my way to have as much info about my situation as possible...
Anyway, whether or not this is the problem with my monitor may not be important. If the monitor is just dying out I probably still need to update don't I? I've read a bit about it and I've downloaded what I assume is the most recent update for my BIOS and the (again, assuming) appropriate "flash" thingy. However, I'm more than a little apprehensive about attempting this on my own without some input.
The folks here helped me out immensely a while back with a browser hijack and the first forum I though of to come to with th... Read more
1. The BIOS has been there since 2002, the squiggly lines appeared recently. ergo the BIOS has nothing to do with the squiggly lines.
2. The windows troubleshooters are as useful as tits on a bull.
3. If you are not experienced with BIOS upgrades be warned you can get into real trouble if anything goes wrong - possibly to the extent your PC never works again.
4. The majority of people NEVER upgrade their BIOS and their computers still seem to work OK.
Have a look at the download site where you get v1010 and see what the update is supposed to fix. Unless it says "fixes squiggly line problem" (and I'll bet good money it doesn't) it's not going to help you.
Let us know what kind of monitor and what kind of display card you have, because i think you have a hardware problem.

Will updating an A-Bit BIOS to the latest BIOS remove any Virus that is in the BIOS. And what BIOS Viruses are out there and what can you do to get rid of them?
If your BIOS is infected overwriting it with the latest version of the real one will overwrite the problem. Most of these however render your PC useless to the point you cannot even boot. SOme of the names are Chernobyl, PE_CIH, Win95.CIH, Win32.CIH, W95/CIH.1003, CIH.Spacefiller
Most AV sites have removal tools
I have a laptop in the shop and one of the things the tech is doing is updating the BIOS, he said they were way out of date. It got me to wondering, should I be updating BIOS on my other computer? is it something I can do? I don't really understand that part.
Check the PC (or motherboard) manufacturer's web site to see if there is a firmware update for the BIOS. If there is read the notes to see if you think that the fixes or improvements are worth it. Updating the firmware is doing a brain transplant so in the unlikely event that something goes wrong there will probably be no recovery.
Yes, you can probably do it, depending on the procedure given.

Most manufacturers have updated BIOS on their websites for download. If it is a custom build, the motherboard manufacturer will have one.
It is not usually necessary to update BIOS unless you have a particular issue that the update resolves . .
I am upgrading my system from Windows 98 to XP Pro, Full (clean) install. I plan on wiping everything out on the hard drive and start from scratch. Is it necessary to update the BIOS, and if so, where do I find the update? The computer I am upgrading was put together by a local person and he is no longer around, so there is no manufacturer's website to go to and I am not for sure who made the motherboard.
It is a good idea to run the Compatibility wizard on the XP Disc prior to installing . . it will tell you what hardware and software is compatible. ( Insert the XP disc while the system is on and choose "Check for Compatibility" )
I like to update to the newest BIOS when I Upgrade a pc to XP, but it is not a exercize to be undertaken lightly . . I use a UPS to prevent a power loss from converting the machine into a trotline weight . .
You can download and run the Belarc Advisor or Everest to find out what MotherBoard you have ( and a lot of other details about the system as well )
Good luck . .
I am thinking of upgrading my pc by putting an Intel E8200 cpu with an ASUS P5E x38.
Im just wondering if this is as straightforward as I think because I read somewhere that most of the x38 motherboards are not updated for the latest E8+ cpu`s.
If this is so, does anyone know how to resolve this problem?
