Can't access the internet while running Virtual PC!

Q: Can't access the internet while running Virtual PC!

Hi, just thought I might ask the professional if they know of any issues concerning Virtual PC and access to the internet.

I've recently installed VPC on my computer and am running an XP client and Windows Server 2003 on two separate virtual hard disks.

The problem I'm having is, is that as soon as I run one, I can no longer access the internet on my host machine.

The real annoying part is that even if I exit and close the virtual operating systems and VPC altogether I still can't access the net.

I have unplug my router and modem, reconnect and restart my machine to be able to access.

Anyone know what may be causing the problem and a way around this?

Cheers,

HF.

Preferred Solution: Can't access the internet while running Virtual PC!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Can't access the internet while running Virtual PC!

It may be that the virtual network adapters are interfering with the performance of the real network adapter. I sometimes have a similar problem in VM and I have to disable the virtual adapters to get it going again.

Hi All,
I have established a Virtual Wifi Miniport and would like to share my laptops internet via the Miniport. Whenever I connect my android phone with this access point, it works perfectly for a few minutes and then all of a sudden there is no internet on the phone. The phone remains connected to the laptop hotspot but the internet access is no more there. Now at this point if I disconnect the connection between my phone and the hotspot and then again try to reconnect back again, it wont even connect. The phone will keep on searching and shows connecting status but can never connect. I have tried all sorts of softwares connectify, virtual router, intel mywifi and even tried to create a hotspot from the cmd using netsh command. All the hotspots work in the exact same way intially works perfect but maybe after half an hour internet is gone. I have completed all the steps properly even changed the settings in the laptop adapter with interet access to allow other networks to connect but nothing seems to work. I have a Windows 7 Machine and my wireless adapter is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless N-100 and the drivers are up to date according to windows. I know that its a problem with my laptop/OS or something because my android phone can connect and remain connected( without losing internet ) to the connectify hotspot in my wifi enabled desktop PC.I am breaking my head over this for the past 15 days even formatted my system once but no use. Please help if you can..please!

Hello, I have had 2 people come up to me at my part time job saying they cant access the internet because there computer says they are low on virtual memory, what does low on virtual [u]memory actually mean and what can be done about it.

A:Can't Access Internet, "low On Virtual Memory"

Basically, the Page File (Virtual Memory) is what your operating system uses when it runs low on RAM resources.virtual memorypagingThe minimum should be 1.5 times your memory size. The maximum should be, at least, three times your memory. If you continue to have problems, raise the maximum. Keep raising it until you no longer get the message. Then click the Set button.Or, the best solution, you could increase the amount of RAM your system has by buying more, since raeding the hard drive is much slower than RAM.That's how I solved my, low virtual memory, problem.

https://modern.ie/ used to supple several virtual machine downloads to cater for previous Internet Explorer versions, 7-10. They seem to have all been removed and no longer available as the only option is for a single
IE11 and Edge VM.
Here is a GitHub repo https://github.com/magnetikonline/linux-microsoft-ie-virtual-machines which has all the previous download URLs and there is an open issue https://github.com/magnetikonline/linux-microsoft-ie-virtual-machines/issues/14 indicating
that the VMs are non-existent anymore.
I need to download these VMs to test work for clients. I know it's old tech but it's essential for me.
Any idea where to get them from, or where an old archive download may be?

After changing XP Mode's network adapter (in order to get port forwarding working), I found that I cannot access the internet using a browser anymore.

I went from Shared Network to Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller in the Virtual Machine settings, which broke its internet connection completely and gave the "limited or no internet connectivity" message. After going back to Shared Network, when loading any page in any of the virtual machine's browsers (Firefox, IE), the page would remain blank then time out after a while. However, pinging websites using cmd worked in the virtual machine. Using the 'repair' option in XP's Network Connections did not help. Disabling the firewall did not help either.

Also, the Windows 7 host machine's internet is working fine.

How do I fix this situation, without having to start anew with another virtual machine?

A:XP Mode virtual machine cannot access internet

If available, run system restore in XP using a point where Internet worked.

I've been trying to use connectify to use my laptop as a hotspot.
I have an ethernet connection that my laptop connects to and i want to connect my itouch to the internet via wifi.
I installed connectify and it worked just as it says it should, I can even connect my itouch.
But i never get the internet connection with the itouch.
I've checked and my Atheros wireless adapter is supported and everything seems like it should work, but for some reason it doesn't.

Please help. I have a hunch it's maybe a small little thing that's blocking the internet (possibly a windows sharing setting?).

Not sure how actively anyone is tracking user needs here, but figured I had nothing to lose by asking for help...unable to find an understandable answer here so far.
I had been happily running Virtual PC 2007 on a Win 7 Home system, printing on a network physically connected via usb cable to a Win XP system.  I have now replaced the XP tower with a Windows 10 tower, with that printer attached to that tower, and
functioning normally.
When I run Virtual PC 2007 on the Win 7 system, it "sees" the Win 10 system, but on trying to install the printer, it is asking for a password to the Win 10 system.
I am guessing that it would require a ton of tweaks to get around this, and although I am not a full blown novice, I never like fiddling with too many settings that might screw up everything else that is working.
So, long story short, is there in fact a reasonably simple way to work around this, or should I just give up to progress and new operating systems?
Thanks to anyone who might be willing to point me in the right direction.

I just installed windows 8.1 pro on an MSI z97 pc mate motherboard with I5 3.3 ghz processor, 16 gb ddr3 1600 MHz ram, with embedded realtek pcie gbe NIC. I checked and found that hardware virtualization is enabled by default in the BIOS.

I tried to set up a virtual switch using the latest bios and drivers from MSI. I created a virtual switch choosing the external option and the share with host OS option. I then connected to the VM. No network connectivity on VM but host still worked.

I then used autopatcher to update windows 8.1 on the vm. I removed and reinstalled the virtual switch choosing external option and share with host OS option. Same conditions occurred.
And then I installed the latest NIC driver. Same problem - media disconnected.

I tried this process with the latest driver from the realtek website which was a couple years more up to date. I had such high hopes! Same problem.

I then used msconfig to prevent all non-Microsoft services from starting and rebooted. I removed and recreated the switch and I was still hoping for success. Same exact conditions occurred.

These are the conditions that occur whenever an external switch with host os sharing enabled is installed in between all of these troubleshooting steps. It looks exactly the same every time...
The host machine can still access the network but it does so through the virtual switch. Ipconfig /all on the host reveals the following...

I was helping a friend with his restaurant computer which had many viruses on it.  I used malwarebytes to remove most of them. But the internet was painfully slow to open.
I then tried Combofix which ahs worked for me many times in the past.  His computer will not connect to internet now and the network says it is an unidentified network and I can not change that.

I re-ran combofix so I do not have the internet toolbar that it got rid of.  The internet explorer was screaming fast until a reboot.  Now it does not connect.  I have attached the DDS lof and also ran a FSS log too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this has caused his business to not be able to process credit card transactions!

ComboFix logs should not to be posted outside the HijackThis forums. It is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. Please create a new topic explaining the nature of your problem in the Am I infected? What do I do? forum. Describe pop-ups and system tray or desktop icons that have appeared. Explain what is "going wrong" with your computer. Note any tools you have used and their respective results. If needed, we will direct you to our HJT Preparation Guide.Thank you for using BleepingComputer as your malware removal source. This topic is now closed. I ran spysweeper on a computer and it found 21 programs and over 100 entries. Running Windows XP. Obtaining IP (or should be) from a Router.

The problem is that after I rebooted the computer I could not access the Internet.

I tried:

IPConfig (release & renew), but get error that IP Address Could Not Be Renewed.
Manually configuring the TCP/IP protocol.
Netsh (netsh int ip reset new.txt)

None of the above fixed the problem. Some additional information: the computer accessed the Internet just fine right before the scan/clean. The IP address that is being assigned is: 169.254.117.209 (Generated by Automatic Private Address). The cable still seems to be connected and working just fine (plugged in and light a shining).

I appreciate the help.

Hi, I have ran Combofix 2 days ago and after that I couldn't connect to the internetI use windows 7Edit: Moved topic from Networking to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

A:Unable to access to the internet after running ComboFix

This is one of the reasons why we recommend not to use ComboFix on your own. There are risks involved and we would prefer it if someone who knows how to resovle any issues that may arise is supervising its use.ComboFix disconnects the computer from the Internet as part of its routine. If you did not disconnect, you may loose your connection. The connection is automatically restored before ComboFix completes its run. However, if ComboFix runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be restored by restarting your machine. If rebooting did not restore your Network and Internet Connection, then follow these instructions for Manually restoring the Internet connection.

Hello,

I recently ran the trial version of Hitman Pro on my computer (attempting to get rid of Google Redirect Virus), and after rebooting, my computer would not connect to the internet.

It's just stuck on "Acquiring Internet Address".

I have Malwarebytes and Spybot installed also, but could not access those due to the virus, had tried all sorts of things that mbam suggested (safe mode, rkil, etc), but nothing worked. I have heard that AV programs can conflict with each other, so I'm wondering if that might be the problem.

I'd like some help figuring out how to reconnect to the internet, thanks!

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Just purchased a new laptop with VISTA. I can access the internet through microsoft internet explorer. Cannot do it through Windows mail, or through any program in office 2003, or from Phostoshop CS2 or from Outlook. I have configured my laptop exactly as I have my desktop (running under XP). The desktop programs work have no problem. The lap top can't do it. I cannot send any registration from any of the programs. And I can't access any email. I suspect some problem with VISTA but since it is new to me, I cannot determine exactly which setting is blocking all these programs. Thank you.

A:Can't access internet from within programs running under VISTA

Actually, after two weeks of doing this, I removed Norton anti virus as was suggested in one of the other threads. I then returned the computer to an earlier setpoint and reinstalled Norton. Just as I wrote the last question, the internet became asscessible. I have no idea what I did or why it worked. It was my last straw before removing VISTA all together. So, in the words of Rosanne Rosanna Dana........Um, Nevermind.....

Hey all, first post and everything.
My little brother, brilliant boy that he is, installed some program that was supposedly a better Steam with better sales. Of course this program was littered with viruses. I proceeded to run Avast, which froze up and could not enable the firewall anymore. Then went into the Control Panel and uninstalled Wajak which was popping inappropriate ads all over everything and Steam. I saw that a program called One System Care was there as well, but I couldn't remove it off of the Control Panel.

Afterwards I ran adwcleaner and it removed One System Care and Lavasoft Web Companion. Unfortunately after that finished the computer lost access to the internet. It shows that it's connected to the Network, but neither ethernet and Wireless are working. I've tried:

- Checking the Internet Options to see if a Proxy was enabled.
- Checking if the DNS was messed with in the Network options.
- Ran Rkill.exe
- Ran MiniToolBox.exe
- Ran JRT.exe
- Flushed the ipconfig, ipv4, ipv6 in cmd.
- Reinstalling the Ethernet and Wireless drivers.
- Restarting the computer afterwards.

And none of that has helped. He is still unable to access the internet after all that. I'm out of ideas, hope you guys can help. Not sure what other information I can provide.

Have you tried resetting Winsock and TCP/IP. Sometimes Winsock gets corrupted after removing adware.

Type CMD in the search box Right Click > Run As Administrator.  Type the following then reboot.

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

I have been looking for a long time, but have found little to nothing to help resolve this. I am hoping someone here can help me.

My primary network, connecting this machine to the internet as well as my media server is running like a champ and always had.

One day I wake up and get on one of my VM's inside this machine and, low and behold it's connected no more. I have been racking my brain ever since to try and figure this out.

The seconday network has always said unidentified network, but I had access to the net. Something changed this, haven't found out what.

I have found a bunch of info about Adobe, but I have been unable to find anything in regards to Bonjour in my system. Note: I do have AIR, Flash Player 10 ActiveX, Flash Player 10 Plugin, ReaderX 10.0.1, and Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5.

I have even gone into the Local Security Policy editor and found nothing to help me get my secondary Network back online. I know it has nothing to do with the VM's, as I have redownloaded and reinstalled all my subsystems since with no help.

Basically, I'm just lost here. I know it's simple, but I'm just not seeing it. Any help would be a huge help. Thanks in advance. If you want any additional information, I'll be glad to offer it.

A:Secondary Network running VM ware, No Internet Access

Under the Network Settings of your VMware... for the Virtual Drive.. can you do a screen capture. That will let us know how the VM ware is setting up your network... bridging, NAT, ect.

Another thing you can do for us is go into the VM ware ... so the network connection is active and do a "IP Config /all" and screen capture everything for us.

Hello All,
I am new to this and not very computer savey so hope you can help.
I had a problem with my proxy turning on every 10 minutes so searched around to see if i could fix it. I came across a thread on this site that resembled my problem. The solution was to run some adware removal tool reboot and run something else. I cant recall the name of the adware tool but it was something like adWcleaner.
Anyways i followed the instructions ran the tool and cleaned 2 hotspot shield errors or something. Then i rebooted as directed and now cannot access the internet as i have limited connectivity.
I troubleshot the connection issue and it says network adapter is experiencing problems.
I found many other topics on this site for not having inet connection and tried all the cmd recommendations i could find (netsh interface, winsoc, flush dns etc.) and nothing has worked.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Try the portable version of Windows Repair (All In One).

Once you've extracted the Tweaking.com - Windows Repair folder, open it and click on to run the program.

Go to step 5, backup the registry and create a restore point:

Click Next:

Click on Open Repairs.

Select the circled items and deselect the others.

Click on box next to the Restart/Shutdown System when Finished.

Click on Restart System.

Disabling your antivirus is recommended before running the repairs.

I have been working with nasdaq on the virus board but have come up short of figuring this out. he recommended I post here.

The computer will boot ok but when you go to try to get on the internet all browsers crash. Went to try to check the firewall and defender, firewall was down and defender was off.started to try to use MBAM and it crashes with runtime error. Went to use the recovery partition to reload, windows says it isn't there and can't see it at the list of drives. Went into defrag and the drive is listed there.   This is when i turned to BC. We ran minitoolbox first. Then we ran ADW Cleaner scan then tried to run JRT but it failed. tried to run MBAM again and it failed same as before. tried to run ESET but it never sees the internet that is connected or at least shows that it is. We then ran ADW Cleaner Clean, but same problems persisted. Ran FixExec but it showed that my operating system was unknown and not supported. I'm running Win 8.1 x64.
I can access the advanced tools area but when I click to use recovery or reset it say drive isn't there.

A:Toshiba Laptop running 8.1 no access to recovery drive or internet

Can you create a Recovery Drive from within Windows? Then use the USB flash drive to do the reset or refresh. If you do a refresh you will lose all you installed programs other than your apps. With a reset you will lose everything.

If you want to install a second Operating system on your system you have several options :

? Double boot
? Install in a virtual partition
? Install in a VHD
? And maybe some other options

The intuitive move seems to be to install with double boot. But that can be extremely frustrating. If the second OS is a Linux distro, you get your bootmgr clobbered by the Grub which will give you a lot of trouble the day you want to get rid of it.

If the second system is Windows 8, you may run into complications with the UEFI and have similar problems as with Linux.

In any case, a double boot is not very fluent for concurrent operation because you have to take down OS #1 and boot OS #2 if you want to switch.

None of those problems arise when you install in virtual. In fact there are a lot more advantages.

1. The installation of the second OS is completely isolated from the host OS. No impact on the bootmgr or anything else. The virtual partition ends up to be a folder which you can move to any partition or disk drive if you want to change the location of the virtual partition.

2. You can move that installation folder to an external drive attached via USB and run your system from there. That is how I run Windows 8 and Zorin (an Ubuntu based distro).

3. If you want to 'image' your virtual system at any given point in time, you just copy the installation folder to another partition/disk and you save the status of your OS at that moment. That beats imaging in simpli... Read more

A:Why is running your second OS in virtual so much easier th

Very useful post. Thanks. You might want to explicitly mention (certainly not necessary) running two systems--one via Remode Desktop Connection (RDC). I do that a lot here--run Win8 on an old laptop from my MacBook Pro via RDC. The old laptop is relatively unpleasant to use.

And, you might bring in some of the disadvantages of virtual. I have not used virtual too much--only Win7 as installed on Boot Camp run virtually via MacBook Pro. But, I didn't like having to have dedicated memory and disk space for Win7 (as I recall). I don't have to do that using RDC. And, while I certainly haven't investigated the advantages you mention above in the context of RDC, some of them apply to RDC, e.g., running programs, etc., on both at the same time.

I have perforce upgraded to W10 from W7. The routine stuff is fine - after a bit of digging around. However I have two applications I can no longer run.
Locoscript (DOS) which has an extensive English-Russian database built up over decades
Photoshop Elements (XP) - I'm accustomed to it and would like to continue with it.
I was running both under Virtual Machine on W7. I have backups of the
VSV and VMC and VHD files.
Can you suggest how I can set up for these programs?

I also have a system backup of the 7 system.

Possibilities are in order of strong preference -
- a virtual PC under W10 (where from ?)
- a W7 boot on my W10 machine, just to run the Virtual PC for these two environments;
- for the DOs unpack the VSV data and possible DOSBOX to run the program
- Get a separate box and try to reinstall W7 on it from my system backup

In each case I not sure where to start. Is it possible? Any suggestions?

You can use MagicISO to create an ISO file of the CD.

But why pay for something you don't have to. You can create and mount the ISO with plenty of other free utilities.
