Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation

Q: Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation

I recently performed a system recovery because I was unable to back up to earlier time before we started having computer issues. Anyway I performed a recovery. Stumbled accross this by accident that windows has 3 days before it wall automatically activate. So I clicked activate. It gave me this message header. "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation". There are 3 options. 1 is to Buy a new product key online. 2 is to type a different product key. 3 is to contact Hewlett-Packard Company to resolve this issue. I contacted Hewlett-Packard Company and they had me call Microsoft. Microsoft wants to charge me $100 for something I already own. Very confused. Anyway does anyone have a fix for this. Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi
You have two choices:
You may either reinstall using the recovery partition, if you have one.
or
You could look for the key on the computer. It can be anywhere, including the battery compartment, if you have a lappy.
As a last restort you can try to use magic jelly bean, but I have doubts since you reinstalled.

keep being asked for the product key. I installed the home premium on the vista basic laptop due to not having the disc to reinstall and it worked for a few weeks. My friend read out the product key she had but one of the letters which is a (/) will not go into it but she said that is what is printed. So now I am stuck as it will not allow me to use the forward slash so cannot do anything now....Any ideas please would be appreciated

Hello Angie,

It sounds like that may not have the product key number. The product key number is a sequence of 25 letters and numbers divided into 5 groups of 5 characters each.

Product Key Number

Is this a OEM or retail copy of Vista that you installed?

You will not be able to use the product key number if your friend has it activated on her computer.

I turned on my computer and it has a pop-up that reads "The windows vista home premium product key you typed is invalid for activation". There are 3 options 1. Access your computer with reduced funtionality. This will allow you to buy a new product key online. 2. Type a different product key. 3. Contact Dell to help reolve this problem.

Before this the computer was working, in fact I used it earlier in the day, I didn't download anything, didn't do anything new. I've had this computer for about 3 years. I don't know why i'm suddenly getting this pop up, maybe it's a virus I don't know.

When I click on the first option (1) my firefox opens to this Genuine Windows website http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/genuine
I tried to look it up, seems like a lot of ppl have this problem and no solution.

I have no access to my desktop, no start menu, no taskbar, time, icons, etc, just firefox and when I minimize firefox there is the pop-up. I thought about running malware bytes but i have no access to that.
Please help.

A:The windows vista home premium product key you typed is invalid for activation

Yes, this is an issue that some people have experienced, from what I remember this sometimes happens because of a corrupt Windows Update. 95% of the time the easiest way to resolve the issue is to find the Windows Certificate Of Authenticity and re-enter the product key. If this is a laptop computer you should be able to find the sticker on the bottom of the computer or in some cases I have seen the sticker hidden inside the battery compartment. If it is a desktop, look on the sides of the case or the rear.

Make sure you are connected to the internet when you re-enter the key so that the activation process can complete without incident.

The certificate of authenticity will look very similar to this....

ation. I get these messages every 7 minutes or so along with another one less frequently (I forget what it says). And at the bottom of my desktop says ' Windows 7. Build 7601. This copy of Windows is not genuine.

When I got new parts for my pc (CPU, mobo, video card and power supply) my hard drive didn't recognize my upgraded computer, and the only option to solve this was system restore, but it said that a Windows CD was required for this, which didn't come with my computer that I got from HP 2 years ago. So my brother just used another CD he burned, and probably downloaded from the internet, to install Windows and use the CD key on my case.

Now that I've installed Windows 7 it's become very glitchy, with random BSODs and freezing and video card problems etc. Now, I have these windows that pop-up telling me to give Microsoft $150 in order to get rid of them. So, if I used a valid CD key from a downloaded version of Windows can it still be genuine? If not, I may buy a copy of Windows 7 just to pray it'll fix all the problems I'm having atm. Also, I created a cd install of my computer from before it was upgraded, but I lost it so if I found it then everything should be fine. Please help if you can, I'll answer any questions you may need.

If you got a key without paying for it, it's fake, it's pretty much that simple, you may have been able to make your original key work by using the phone option to activate, but from the sound of it you've messed with things now using a key whose source I'm blurry on.

I bought my Medion PC about a year ago and it came with Vista preinstalled. Yesterday when i turned it on i was inexplicably shown the above error message on a black background, with three options - 1. Access your computer with reduced functionality 2. Enter different product key 3. Contact Medion AG to help resolve this problem.
These are my only options, i have no access to deskstop, or start key etc. I have reentered my product key numerous times and also reentered a new product key given to me by microsoft customer support on the telephone but neither was accepted and i received the following error message with both product keys: Code 0xc004f050 . The people on the microsoft customer support number could not help me any more and refered me to Medion, who referred me back to microsoft!

I have not performed any updates to Vista or uninstalled any drivers etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have an important deadline looming,

Hi,
I am posting in a new thread as requested.
I bought this Windows 7 home premium OEM from coastal software and downloaded the ISO. The product key was sent to me via email so there is no CD or other media. I have done a clean custom install of Win7 HP 3 times and each time the key still comes up as invalid. I have followed all the steps and instruction that was given to another chap who looked like was having the exact same problem but still not worked so I really hope you can help me.

You will probably have to call Microsoft's licensing people. There should be a number on the label with the product key. I've had to call them before when I've reinstalled Vista and they are more than glad to help (as long as it's a legal copy).

First of all, apologies if this problem has been posted before and solved - I did look but I couldn't find it.
Second of all, I know next to nothing about computers and wouldn't have them if I didn't need them for college work. Because of that, I don't know what information you might need to know - so I'm just going to put everything I can think of!

I have an HP Pavilion g6 laptop that I have had for several years. Around Christmas time the hard drive died and I had to get it replaced. That all went fine except for the fact that I'm from England (where I bought the computer) and at that point I was on in Canada. Obviously I didn't think to bring my windows disks with me. And I wasn't going back to England any time soon. The tech guy who replaced my hard drive told me it was no problem and put Linux on the laptop so I could use it until I could get my windows disks. Or I could just keep using Linux.

As I was traveling around, I didn't have an address to get anyone to send my disks to me until a month ago, when I settled in Mexico for a while. My father bought me new Windows 7 disks from the US as they would get to me quicker.
I managed to figure out how to partition my drive and everything so that I was able to install windows without removing Linux (as I couldn't find out how to do it any other way. No one seemed to understand why I would want to remove Linux!). Everything installed correctly except for the fact I wasn't able to get online to activate it. I typed in the wi... Read more

This might seem roundabout but doing a System Restore to a point within the 30 day limit would work to allow you to activate. Wherever you are, it might pay to just pay the heavy toll to call MS to activate and some 3rd party phone services offer cheap rates if you have access to any phone.

Hi friends Bobby Light here!

I keep getting this error message "The windows 7 product key you typed is invalid for activation"

I purchased my version of Win7pro from a "friend" and he said the code should work but it is not... I asked him for more help and he said he is unavailable at this time.

Real Quick Question... is this pop up just going to keep popping up or at some phase stage does the whole system lock down? And I can not get into my stuff at all with no recourse at some point. Many thanks and I guess I just want to know what happens if you just keep ignoring the pop up. Says I need to activate but what if I simply don't?

Best regards,

Hello,

I have an HP Envy Touchsmart (m7-j120dx) laptop hat came with Windows 8.1 installed on it. I went through all of the steps to prep the computer so that I could install a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium (OEM) that I purchased through Amazon (Tech-Depot).

The installation went fine and I had all of the Windows 7 drivers that I needed. However, when I went to activate Windows 7, I got the following message; "The Windows 7 Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation". I then tried to activate it over the phone but the automated system said the same thing. I even went on Microsoft's website, where you can chat with someone or request a call and both pages were not working. I called Amazon and they're going to send me another copy of the same software to replace it.

I was supposed to have this laptop back to the owner by tomorrow morning. Now I've got to call him and let him know otherwise. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you think that Windows 8.1 has anything to do with this or is it just a BAD Product Key?

I know that activation is some sort of anti piracy thing, but my copy had already been activated - about 3 years ago - and it accepted the activation no problem. How does the system know I'm going to junk my old system? Same thing happened when I reloaded my copy of Office.

If my key doesn't work, is there any websites that give away valid working ones so I can get this activated? I just spent all my money on this key so I have none left

I don't know why my key isn't working.

Double check your product key number to make sure that you have entered it correctly. It's real easy to type a 0 instead of 0 or B instead of 8.

If that's not it, then this will show you how to manually do a phone activation.

Neither Microsoft Office nor any of its components come with Windows
7, nor has it ever come with any version of Windows. If you have
Office on your new computer, almost certainly your vendor bundled a
trial version of Office with it. The reason you are now asked for
the product key is that your trial period has ended. If you want to
continue using it, you need to buy it and thereby get a key.

This is my first install of Windows 7 Home Premium. I install Windows 7 Enterprise and Ultimate the most and I have a few Windows 7 Professional install under the belt. So this is a new problem to me that I have never seen and I believe I have done everything right.

I did a clean install from DVD of Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade. The machine was running Windows XP so there is no upgrade path. I backed up all data and wiped the drive. I have installed all the other versions of Windows 7 this way without issue so I am stumped as to why I get this error. So before I call Microsoft and wait on the phone. I figured a quick post here would be a good idea.

However this is no way to install Windows 7 on XP without a Clean Install???

A:Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 Activation fails

Hi, Welcome to SF

1.) Call notebook support and explain the situation to them and they will ask you for some information about the laptop (ie. serial number, model, etc.) and will sometimes provide a new key that will get you activated ( OEM versions are supported by the manufacturer and not MS so they are suppose to be the ones that verify the purchase and provide support to get the system reactivated if there are problems )

2. If notebook manufacturer will not help then call the MS activation hotline and explain to them that the Software required a reinstall and notebook manufacturer will not help will sometimes get MS to provide help (they will ask for information about the system to ensure you are installing the correct version that came with the system and will want you to give them any info you can still read from the sticker as well as the model and serial number of the laptop etc. )

Normally since you are dealing with a laptop that did come with the OS preinstalled one or the other will provide an activation response code that will activate the system but it does sometimes take a bit of talking with the support staff to get it done.

I have an older Acer 1410 that I recently replaced the HDD on.

On the Microsoft sticker, the product version reads:

"Windows 7 Home Prem OA Acer Group"

Underneath that is the product key.

I know I had a 64bit version of Windows 7 installed, so I downloaded an ISO of Windows 7 Home Premium from digital river and installed it on my computer. (The laptop did not come with it's own installation disc)

However, when I try to activate the product using the product key, I am told that the product key is not correct. I recall being able to call Microsoft to activate over the telephone in the past, but it appears this option is not available any more?

What can I do to activate my copy of Windows 7 with the product key I have?

This computer was donated to RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program).  We repair/refurbish donated equipment and then donate it to local charity organizations that need it.  When I booted the computer, there was a message indicating that Windows 7 Home Premium may not be genuine and needs to be activated.  When I tried to activate it, I was offered the option to buy a new product key online or type a different product key.  I do not know the original product key, but need to be able to activate the product.

A:Get message that Windows 7 Home Premium requres activation, ...

Take a look at the computer's case.  Is there a "genuine Microsoft" sticky-label on the back/sides/bottom of the case?Does it contain a 25-character product-key?  If so, use the product-key.  From: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-p6000-desktop-pc-series/3884665I looked at this computer's specifications, on the HP Support web-site.Sometimes, one can still order a copy of the originally-installed software, for a small fee, from HP.Unfortunately, not so, for this model. Some Other People on have recommended:  www.ComputerSurgeons.comas a source for buying a copy of the original software, again for a small fee. If your charity is registered in Canada, see: www.techsoupcanada.caMicrosoft donates copies of Windows 10 and Office 2016 to Registered Charities, for a small "administrative fee".

A:windows 7 home premium 64bit activation issue

The likelihood is that you simply need to use operator activation.

telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

A:Windows 7 home premium Activation issue Refurb PC

Hi melkiadark & welcome to sevenforums.

Here's the relevant part of the MGADiag report:

License Status: Notification
Notification Reason:
0xC004F009 (grace time expired).
Remaining Windows rearm count: 3

Run attached & see if it you have windows product key in registry.

You said Refurb PC, does it have product key sticker on machine? desktop usually on left side bottom. laptop usually on bottom or inside battery compartment.

You can enter this in elevated command prompt 3 times total, which has not been done yet according to MBADiaglog, but it's a temporary fix and resets the trial period.

slmgr -rearm

Alright, so I'm just going about my business as usual on the computer. And I get a message asking to validate windows. Well at first I ignore it. I mean I've been using this computer for 2 years now. If the activation had been invalid, I'd know.

But then my wallpaper disappears. And at this I get VERY worried.

Now, I've put back in the product key# (luckily it was on the side of my pc), and it's back to normal. But I'm worried about why this happened. And if it'll happen again.

A:Windows Vista Activation Key suddenly invalid.

This can also happen if you use Microsoft's security essentials and suddenly decide to disable it from starting up.

As much as it can be a pain, it's the price we legal windows owners pay for the software theft that dishonest people do.

As long as you have a legal license key, you have nothing to worry about.

I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but we all have to live it in todays dishonest society.

I'm ttrying to get the Windows 10 Upgrade, but after going through some help screen, It's telling me that my product is not eligible for an upgrade.

I'm just wondering why that is. I have Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium SP1 that I purchased with a new HP Pavilion desktop computer. I have a product key. why isn't this eligible for W 10? Any ideas?

thanks,
Carl

A:Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium SP1 Product Not Eligible for Upgrade?

Hello and welcome Carl I don't know exactly why but it does recommend you remove any security suites from the machine before you go ahead.

My own personal experience is that one of my desktops upgraded from an OEM Home version I put on but my Toshiba laptop upgraded but would not go past build 10074 and kept asking me to activate it so it could be purely down to glitches or bugs in the system.

By the by how did you get the 10 as I downloaded the ISO and then loaded it from booting from the DVD? As I said I had an OEM clean install to get rid of all the Toshiba crapware - maybe the HP stuff could be causing the problem/s.

Hey, today when i logged onto my computer it continually kept giving me a message that my Vista may be counterfeit and that i should validate it. I figured there would be no harm in doing so, as it is a valid Vista product key, but it came back saying it was invalid.

My computer came with this version of vista, and it had been running on it for quite some time (2+ Years?) It gave me the three options (contact HP, enter another key, or use w/ limited functionality to order a new key) What i did, however, was shut down my computer. I didn't have time to troubleshoot earlier, and figured i could come back to it later.

Now, when i boot up i get a microsoft recovery screen w/ startup repair, hardware diagnostics, system restore, etc. Exiting that causes a reboot into the same microsoft recovery screen. I booted in safe mode which only comes up with the black background w/ safe mode & vista version on the outer edges of the screen, and then after a few seconds the same microsoft recovery screen pops up.

What i believe is happening is that because it recognized the product key as invalid (for whatever reason, it shouldn't be doing so though) it cannot boot windows properly. The Vista product key problem is pretty frequent, and i believe i can solve it quite easily if i can manage to get back to the screen where it again gives me the three options.

I cant access the start menu, any applications, the internet, etc. I can only access the cmd prompt, and the mic... Read more

So I have an old Sony laptop, and it came with Win 7 Starter.

It got slow and bogged, so I installed Win 7 from scratch from instructions here, and when I went to enter the product key from the bottom of the laptop of course I got the "The product key you have entered will not work with this version of Win 7. You must either run Win 7 setup or enter a Win7 Home Premium product key."

The problem is I couldn't find a Win 7 Starter download anywhere...

Thanks for any help/advice...

Hey guys,

I want to upgrade my OS from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium and I have the Anytime upgrade DVD (provided at the time when I bought my laptop which came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium). Since this is the first time I will ever try to upgrade my OS and I will be paying for it (lol) I wanted to clear a few doubts before I went about it. My current OS is a Deutsch (German) version. I want my new OS to be in English. So my question is -

Will the upgrade process provide me with the option to choose an installation language?

I researched a bit about language packs and if I'm not very wrong, Multiple language packs work only for Business and Ultimate versions but not for Basic and Home premium. Third party language packs like Vistalizator has been reported to work fine but Microsoft doesn't recommend it and some users have reported to have problems where it pops the message " your windows is not genuine".

So should I do an upgrade or just do a clean install with an original Windows 7 Home Premium DVD?

A:Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade

Welcome
I am not sure about the answer regarding the language pack, but I am sure about the upgrade or the clean install. Do the clean install. A clean install is always preferred over an upgrade. With an upgrade all the old problems that may exist with the OS are just carried to the new installation.
Upgrades often fail, either because of third party software that is not compatible, or malicious software that breaks in the new install.
There are some members that back up their stuff and do a clean install on a regular basis to have the OS run smoothly as the first day. Trust me go with the clean install and enjoy your new OS

Hello, I was running a Vista x64 OS a week or 2 ago, when I decided it would be a good Idea to try out linux, but I forgot to write down my product key from the registry before formating to ext4. My sticker that was once on the side of my pc was ripped off at some point and so I cannot use that. The product code I was using is an OEM code that, (Aren't OEM's registered to the motherboard?), was shipped with my 32 bit system around 6 years ago, with a P5N-D motherboard.
I've already tried Hard Disk recovery programs but they say that "the file system is damaged" or something so I cannot get back anything that was stored on it.
Is there a way of recovering my product key?
If there is any addition information you need to prove that I'm a legitimate customer then please ask.

-GanderThePanda.

Hi & Welcome.

Do you have the original recovery disks for the PC. 32 or 64 bit?

As they are OEM they do not need the code & it will be regenerated.

A:Replacing Vista Home Premium with Windows 7 Home Premium

When you get the Vista DVD, boot from it and choose Custom "advanced" installation. Then highlight the partition you want to put 7 on (preferably the Vista partition) then click "delete" (be careful which partition you choose) once the old Vista partition is deleted, be sure the new unallocated partition is highlighted and hit next to continue installing 7. Here is a screenshot, your partition structure may be slightly different.

Well to do this you would need two product keys. Since you can only use one key on one installed system, to dual boot two vista OS you would need a seperate product key for each one, if you have two keys all you need are two seperate partitions to install them on.

Hello Everyone,
Of course I'm typing this post on my laptop that came pre-installed with vista home premium 32-bit installed on it. A short time ago I stumbled across a site on the internet that offers free software to change older computers that are running older operating systems ( like mine ) into a chromium o.s. that comes installed on newer chromebook computers. At the time I thought this sounded interesting, so I thought I'd try it out. BOY was I wrong for even remotely ever considering it !! I downloaded the transformation software..I followed the installation instructions exactly..( the software MUST be installed via usb drive ). Of course I was informed before I started the procedure that " everything on my hard drive would be deleted ", which at the time didn't bother me. That's where I went wrong..in the fact that I hadn't done a system backup in case something went wrong..which it DID. To keep a long story shorter, I essentially had to start from scratch on my laptop. Anyway, I was FINALLY able to get a copy of vista home premium SP2 32-bit from a forum member in here. The install process seemed to go normally, when I got to the page asking for my product key, I entered the one that came printed on the c.o.a. sticker on the bottom of this laptop. The operating system did install ok, but when I checked to see if my copy of windows was 'activated' it wasn't.I feel like I haven't done anything illegal..I just wanted to get my laptop running again.
