Eligible for upgrade offer?

Q: Eligible for upgrade offer?

I am currently planning on ordering a refurbished Gateway MD7321U laptop. I checked Gateway's website and the MD73 models are eligible for the free upgrade, and I did not see anything about refurbished laptops in their FAQ, so I assumed it is.

But becaue I am not sure, before I make the purchase, can someone tell me if the fact that the laptop is refurbished takes away it's eligibility for the free upgrade?

Preferred Solution: Eligible for upgrade offer?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Eligible for upgrade offer?

I would imagine that it is still eligible, but the only way to be sure would be to contact Gateway.

I purchased my HP computer in 2009 with "Windows Vista" O/S installed. I wasn't aware that I was eligible to upgrade my O/S to "Windows-7". Recently Microsoft stopped servicing "Vista" & I may have security risks. While HP healthcheck, I just had this message popped up on my computer, "Any HP PC preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium, purchased between June 26th 2009 and Jan 1st 2010 will be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7 when it becomes available". I tried to update but it is no longer available. I purchased a Windows seven OEM cd from Amazon to upgrade from vista. I'm now wanting to upgrade to ten and the installation using a usb stick gets to the screen where it asks for a product key. The OEM disk doesn't have one.
the install apparently will not proceed.

Is is there a workaround?

A:Is 7 pro OEM version eligible for upgrade to Windows 10?

Just a clarification needed to address your question, lbeck. Are you booting from install USB intending a clean install or just running the setup.exe in the root of the USB to perform the upgrade per se? If only upgrading, you need to make sure your USB has precise edition of Win10 needed to upgrade from your Win7 edition.

In the meantime however, download & run the Upgrade Advisor from M$ and make sure all your software and drivers are up to spec

I'm ttrying to get the Windows 10 Upgrade, but after going through some help screen, It's telling me that my product is not eligible for an upgrade.

I'm just wondering why that is. I have Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium SP1 that I purchased with a new HP Pavilion desktop computer. I have a product key. why isn't this eligible for W 10? Any ideas?

thanks,
Carl

A:Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium SP1 Product Not Eligible for Upgrade?

Hello and welcome Carl I don't know exactly why but it does recommend you remove any security suites from the machine before you go ahead.

My own personal experience is that one of my desktops upgraded from an OEM Home version I put on but my Toshiba laptop upgraded but would not go past build 10074 and kept asking me to activate it so it could be purely down to glitches or bugs in the system.

By the by how did you get the 10 as I downloaded the ISO and then loaded it from booting from the DVD? As I said I had an OEM clean install to get rid of all the Toshiba crapware - maybe the HP stuff could be causing the problem/s.

My question involves upgrading a home desktop to Windows 7 Ultimate. I have a copy of Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista Ultimate which are Academic versions I purchased at a discount from my university. (I already purchased the Student Windows 7 edition for my laptop).

**Are the academic versions of Windows Vista Ultimate or Windows XP Professional eligible for the Windows 7 Ultimate Retail Box Upgrade?**

I do not want to purchase the Upgrade retail box version to then learn the Academic version of XP and Vista are not eligible for the Upgrade version of Windows 7 Ultimate. Or will I need to purchase the Full Retail Box version to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate?

A:Academic XP Professional eligible for Retail "Upgrade"?

You are "Eligible" to upgrade from any version of xp or vista - but you can only perform in-place upgrades from certain versions, the fact that they are academic should not matter. But see Windows 7 Upgrade Paths for details about which versions can be upgraded in place.

So I recently won a BitDefender product key from the MalwareTips Giveaway section, and I wasn't sure whether I could install it on my Android or not. So I decided to ask...

-----

Dan Caloianu is from BitDefender Tech/Chat License Support.

Formatting changes made for making this easy to read. Content is as original.

-----

Dan Caloianu: I can see that this is a Total Security key, only for 3 Windows devices.
However, you can upgrade that for free, to the Total Security Multi Device for 5 devices, which can be installed on Windows, Mac and Android.

Me: for free? How can I do that please?

Dan Caloianu: The only requirement for this is that the key has to be activated on your account.

Me: activated on my account..meaning?

Dan Caloianu: You have to activate the key in order to modify it.

Me: Okay

Dan Caloianu: When you activate it, you can contact us and we will upgrade the product.

Me: Is this a limited time offer?

Dan Caloianu: No. We can always modify it.

Me: So when I activate the license, I can call Bitdefender support and request it to be upgraded automatically to a 5 device multi-device product?

Dan Caloianu: Exactly.

-------
In other words, you can buy a 3-PC license for whatever price you could possible get in your region - and upgrade it to a 5-device key, for free!? Maybe purchase two 3-PC license and protect 10 devices? Obviously no user has that many devices but it has interesting possibilities...

Hello.

On Windows 7, a reserved upgrade offer to Windows 10 blocks me from selecting and installing optional and security updates to my Windows 7. I have "notify me of patches but do not download or install them automatically" selected. I plan on taking the plunge to Windows 10 a bit later on; need to uninstall/change some to-be-incompatible software, etc.

Thanks.

A:License terms of $40 upgrade offer

No, the limitations are on the pricing (sales) of the upgrade. It's an upgrade license, and if it took you a year to use it, it'd still work as it was a legitimately purchased upgrade license.

I did the Upgrade Assistant from Win7 pro to 8 pro and this is what I was told:

Secure Boot isn't compatible with your PC

Your PC's firmware doesn't support Secure Boot so you
won't be able to use it in Windows 8.

More info

I really want Secure boot, however. I have a UEFI BIOS. I am willing to upgrade or clean install, as I will never use the previous windows 7 version again. Is there a way to get Secure boot with my computer [when I upgrade to 8]?

Secure boot requires firmware that supports UEFI v2.3.1 Errata B and has the Microsoft Windows Certification Authority in the UEFI signature database

How do I get this?

All replies welcome, and thank you any who take the time on this problem of mine.

PS. I have the windows 15$ upgrade, but I want to install it on this computer (details listed) instead of the new one that came with the deal

A:Secure boot with upgrade offer?

SecureBoot is a feature of UEFI on newer (released late this year, mostly) motherboards that allows digital signage of the boot process and some extra (well, lots of it) security checking during boot process. If you want it, you need to acquire a motherboard with it. You might (/might/) get it via an upgrade, as it's security software built into the UEFI software itself, but I don't know of any current UEFI motherboards that didn't ship with SB enabled that have updates to enable it yet. Since the x77 and x79 chipsets seem to support it (I've seen a Gigabyte and an Asus board so far that have it, both were x79), you could ask Gigabyte if they plan on adding it to your UEFI system software in the future, of course.

Hello!

31.Oct.2012 we purchased Portege Z930-G1S (PT234R) - quite an expensive notebook with Win7 Home Premium OS.

We thought we are entitled to Win8 discounted upgrade, but as we entered our data on Microsoft site - they told us we're not entitled.

We tried to reach Toshiba support in Russia - http://ru.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/contact_toshiba.jsp
Several times over a month.

But all the mails are returning with "invalid recepient address" error.

How can it be that official Toshiba support site enlists invalid blacklisted address ?
How can it be that recent and quite expensive Toshiba notebook is not subject to Windows 8 upgrade program ?

Thank you.

Hi

Please check this page how to upgrade to from Win 7 to Win 8:

The point is that you have to order Windows 8 from Microsoft and install it.
If it fails contact Microsoft why the Win 8 order has failed.

From my knowledge Toshiba provides an Win 8 drivers. You can get this drivers using TOSHIBA Upgrade Assistant but you can do that after Win 8 has been installed!

However, I want to do a dual boot for both 8.1 & 10. Does a normal upgrade contain the box whereby you can select the 2nd choice, 'Custom: Install Windows only' which will enable me to do a dual boot. I didn't notice it when I upgraded it before. Or do I have to use a bootable USB drive to get this feature. Thanks for any replies.

You'll need two licenses to run both OSes, but the install process is no different than Windows 7 or 8/8/1. You have the same options for partitioning and choosing where to install.

I've had many difficulties upgrading my Dell Inspiron from seven pro to Ten. Now that I finally have Ten up and running, it needs an activation key. Apparently in order to keep it running.

I have the slmgr -dlv report attached. What does it tell WRT my eligibility. If it says no, how do I get a good key? My original product key is for Vista and my upgrade was with a seven Pro OEM disk purchased from Amazon a couple of years ago. There is no product key on the packaging or the disc. I used ShowKeyPlus to get an activation key but the windows install says that it is a general application key (or something like that) and won't work.

Yes, it is eligible for activation. You just have to enter a valid Windows 7/8/8.1/10 Pro product key.

A genuine Microsoft product would have come with a product key sticker. You probably did not get a valid genuine Microsoft product that was eligible for you to use in the first place. Microsoft is improving their product key checking.

I think "eligible" in this case means "eligible for Acer driver support".  My unoffical opinion (I don't work for Acer)  In other words, if you upgrade an Acer computer that's not on the list, then you're on your own to find drivers.  In most cases, Microsoft will automatically give you the drivers you need during the upgrade.   Windows 10 provides a 30 day rollback feature, but be sure to backup your files and make recovery discs or recovery USB drive prior to upgrading....just in case.   http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29934/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDQ0MTU1ODA... Edit:  So you can click "ok, notify me when ready" and it will let you know when it is ready (Microsoft has all your drivers).Edit2: As to why a fairly recent computer isn't on the list...I don't have a guess.

Hi I have a Switch 10 32gb, it seems to be an eligible device. However, I don't receive the icon tray notification. But, in addition, how could I even think to update it to Windows 10 if this requires 16 gb free disk space? I guess this amount of GB was not even free when I bought it! So, how did you manage to update it?  ThanksFabio

A:Switch 10 eligible, but space will be never enough...

I solved with a "radical" solution and i got 18 Gb of free space after installing Win10 and Office. This is what i done: 1) Back up of all my data (documents, pictures etc)2) Hard Reset of my Switch 10 (Alt+F10 at startup, complete recovery option). With hard reset you'll have about 17 Gb free after Win 8.1 recovery. This will be enaugh for avoiding the "not enough space" error during Win 10 upgrade.3) Installation of the only required update to upgrade to Win 10 (KB 3035583)4) Upgrade to Win 10 by using Windows Media Creation Tool.5) Check for Windows 10 activation.6) Make a bootable USB stick using Windows Media Creation Tool.7) Perform a clean installation of Windows 10 by deleting ALL partitions (also the Win 8.1 recovery). (Power button + volume up to enter BIOS settings and set USB as primary boot device, remember to remove USB stick after first installation reboot, you'll not asked for) Steps 4 and 5 are mandatory because if you don't activate Win 10 by upgrading from Win 8.1 you will have activation issues (the product key of Win 10 is not the same of Win 8.1). With this solution you'll lose definitely your software warranty and support (that covers only pre-installed Win 8.1) but the hardware warranty is kept (i had this information by Acer Support Service). If you want to keep Win 8.1 recovery partition you'll have about 8 Gb less (10 free) after installation of Windows and Office. After installation i... Hello. I have this PC, it came with windows 8, specs seems perfectly ok for Windows 10 upgrade. It mounts an i3 3220 w/ 4GB ram.Yet the product is not listed in the eligible model list. http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/windows10-eligible-models The W10 advisor shows this info:  I don't know what is going on here. Any clue??

A:Veriton X2611G not eligible for W10 ??

I have an Acer Aspire S3-391-6046 and am wondering if it is eligible for a free Windows 10 upgrade?  (i.e. Was the stock Windows 8.1 installed with the PC actually Win 8.1 RT? How do I find out? Thanks, Jim

A:Aspire S3-391-604 with Win8 eligible for Win10?

jlandwehr61,

The system in question is not on Acer's eligible model list, but that doesn't mean that it cannot be upgraded. What that means is Acer will not be providing driver support for the upgrade to Windows 10. In fact I upgraded one of our S3-391 notebooks here for Windows 10 use and it is working just fine.

Hi, I have just received my new HP 250 G5, with an information slip stating: "You are eligible to receive one copy of Windows 10 recovery media and HP driver media. For more information or to register your computer and request your copy, either use the registration app or go to http://register.hp.com" I have registered my laptop, but cannot find any information on obtaining Windows 10.

A:Eligible to receive one copy of Windows 10

Paris2801 Sorry, but you are misunderstanding the offer. It is NOT for a free copy of Windows 10; instead, it is for a free set of Recovery Media to use on Win10 with your PC. This is used to restore your PC to its original factory condition.

Greetings,

Mods may want to pin this for easy reference:

Microsoft has provided a compatibility list to determine if your computer running Windows 10 is eligible for the Creators Update. Here is that list:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...puter-is/5152bb37-f95d-48a6-b7b2-ad0d5c738923

While most systems will eventually get Creators Update, older systems, designed with processors for Windows 7 to 8.1 may not. For example, Adom Clover Trail processors, were discontinued by Intel and were produced from around 2012-2014, so those machines will only get fixes up to Anniversary Update. Search online for more details. Computers that were manufactured with Windows 10 out of the box, should be fine.

Microsoft will provide older processors running Windows 10 Anniversary Update with Windows 10 Updates until 2023. For machines that are newer and can get Creators Update, Microsoft will support Anniversary Update until March of 2018. The cycle is that support for a Windows 10 build will be good for 18 months per each release of Windows 10 Feature Updates for the life of the device that runs Windows 10.

It is also recommended that only advanced users upgrade to the Creators Update manually. The automatic update process includes processor and hardware checks before the download happens automatically. You may bi-pass some of those checks if you do the update manually. You will be asked to review your privacy settings, before the update begins.

I have Windows 7 on an HP Pavil ion DM4 Intel core i5 laptop. When I'm using Firefox with several tabs open, I usually have Yahoo email client open in the first tab. When I come back to the Yahoo tab, it frequently has changed to a screen that either has a Full-screen to an "update Firefox" or to update Adobe Flash Player. I have not clicked on either because it seems pretty hokey to me, because a genuine update is usually displayed when I reboot the computer. The URL for the Adobe Flash Update screen is

For some reason, Windows 8.1. downloader package refuses to see my 8GB SanDisk flash drive as a target for creating bootable Windows 8.1 installer USB media. A 16GB Patriot drive is detected and processed properly, but 8GB SanDisk is ignored. The same is true for the Windows 7 USB/DVD tool.

What could be causing this?

When I create the media on the 16GB drive, only 3+GB is used, which means that 8GB drive should be sufficiently large.

UPDATE: It appears that the SanDisk drive is not detected as "removable", so neither Windows 8 downloader nor Windows 7 USB/DVD tool see it as a valid target. There are quite a few reports of that issue on the Net. So, how do I create a bootable Windows 8.1 install media from that SanDisk drive?

A:8GB USB flash drive not eligible as installer boot media?

Use Diskpart
Clean
format fat32

I had a few SanDisk thumb drives that would not work as install drives no mater what I did. I did a little searching and found out there were some issues with older thumb drives and UEFI, I sent them back to Amazon and got newer units for about the same price and have had no problems with these

HI ,
I am a 17 years old student , and while attending school meetings using microsoft teams , i found out a way to start sharing my screen even though i am denied to share my screen . The admin of my organisation has granted permission to only the organisers
of the meeting to start sharing their screen , and the students are denied to share their screen to prevent misuse. But I have discovered a way of sharing my screen even though I am prohibited from doing so . Is this vulnerability eligible for the bug bounty
