Preferred Solution: can not install combo fix computer shuts down

I recommend downloading and trying SP Photo Recovery. It will help find and retrieve your lost files.

I've used it in the past to recover photos, music, videos, and other multimedia files, regardless if the file has been deleted, lost, damaged or corrupted.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/UDbKNE. (This link will open the download page so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: can not install combo fix computer shuts down

Hello and welcome to TSF.

i have been reading logs and it seems you want combo fix and hijack this files to be posted,

I don't know which logs you've been reading, but that's quite the contrary to what we require.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link given below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a

Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps

link at the top of each page.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.

Had this problem once before and just formatted my hard drive and trying to re-install XP and after it copys all of the files and restarts the XP logo comes up and for some reason the scrolling under the logo is grey instead of blue and then when re-install continues it shuts down in about 10 seconds. Just tried this with another XP disk and had the same problem. When I had this problem before someone mentioned that the disk may have a smudge or something so I wiped it down and that actuall did it but now I have no idea especially after two different disks. I installed 98 with no problems so I'm just trying to do an upgrade at this point and getting very fustrated. Thanks

I'm doing a clean install of win 7 64 bit off of an official cd. Part of the install goes well. It gets to 100%, reboots, goes to a screen that says it's loading settings. Then it gets to the completing installation phase and always at the same time, it shuts down. I'll hear the CD stop in my computer, then five seconds later, the computer just shuts off and I'll hear a faint beep. There's no warning message on the screen first. If I turn it on again, Windows will give the error that it restarted during install and I'll have to start over.

There's no network connection while I do this. The temperatures are all within norms. Everything worked fine under XP a few hours prior. I ran a memory test that was fine. I sprayed the dust out.

Any ideas?

*edit* Fixed!
My boyfriend just played around and disabled/enabled a million things in the bios.
His best idea is some security setting he changed.

Magically, it got past that point and is working. I don't know what changed, but if anyone else has this shut down problem, I guess, fiddle with everything in the bios that can safely be changed?

A:Computer shuts down during win 7 install

I'm having exactly the same problem so if anyone knows a solution to this, please share! I will now go and randomly disable things in the BIOS, although I have read on some posts that people have problems with the USB flash drive or printer being plugged in. So might start with disabling some USB options.

So im not exactly new to building computers but i do have room for improvement especially when it involves motherboards lol. so i just purchased a new CPU, MOBO, RAM and a new aftermarket CPU cooler, and i hooked everything up and the computer starts up and POSTs and i am able to get into the UEFI BIOS and im able to boot from my new copy of windows seven to start installing the O/S onto the new system and that is where i have my issue.

every time i try to format a drive ( i have three different HDD's all SATA) or even just keep it unformatted and just install the O/S the system just shuts off... no reason at all that i have seen but as soon as i hit the OK button to format the drive BAM! shuts off.

at first i though it was the PSU so i unhooked two of the drives and only used one stick of RAM in the slot farthest away from the CPU so all i had installed was the CPU w Cooler, one SATA dvd drive one vid card and one hdd and i knew that my 850W PSU should have been able to handle that but... did the exact same thing.

im able to stay in the BIOS for as long as i want and im able to be in the installation of windows screen for as long as i want until i reach the point of either installing the actual O/S or im about to format a HDD to install the O/S. so i really dont think its the PSU.

next i thought it was the HDD but i tried installing the O/S on THREE different drives, i mean what are the chances that they were all bad? but i checked any way and ran S.M.A.R.T ... Read more

What are the temps and voltage readings from the BIOS?

System shutdowns can usually be attributed to heat or power problems.

Seems to happen at different points during the install each time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

A:Computer shuts down during XP install

It could be heat related like a dirty processor heatsink, I would take a can of compressed air and with the computer turned-off remove the side cover and very carefully use the compressed air to vacate all of the dust bunnies and such especially the processor heatsink (DO NOT REMOVE THE HEATSINK FROM THE PROCESSOR) then reboot and see if this makes any difference.

I recently installed windows xp. I had no sound playing so installed a driver for my sound card (realtek AC 97) and it worked, no problem.

A month later, My hard disks got wiped and I am reinstalling windows xp.
This time, when I try to reinstall the driver for my sound card, the computer shuts down half way through the process. this is what happens:

I have downloaded the realtek driver from their site, (and some other sources)
I double click on the driver
it asks me if i want to install I say yes,
It unpacks some things and runs windows installer, it spends about 20 seconds installing, file names flash across the screen
It comes up with a warning "This driver has not been verified by windows...do you want to continue"
I click yes, it does some more installing, but 5 seconds later, before the install is complete the computer crashes - it automatically restarts (as in it suddenly shuts down, like there is an error, not like the driver has finished installing and is restarting in a healthy way - actually, i would not say my computer shuts down, it is more like it suddenly restarts like someone pulled the power plug out the back), and then after the restart i still have no sound driver installed.

I have tried deleting all the sound drivers in device manager and reinstalling, but the same thing happens. I have tried different sources for the driver.

I have no sound! (and can't install the driver!)

A:When i try to install my soundcard my computer shuts down

Forget the sound for a minute and disable auto reboot.How To Disable Automatic Restarts When Windows Crashes - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/74644/how-to-disable-automatic-restarts-when-windows-crashes/ This should result in a readable error message, rather than a reboot.Post the error message contents.System manufacturer and model...or motherboard manufacturer and model (if custom-built)?Louis

I am attempting to upgrade from Windows 98 to XP Home. Things seem to go OK until Windows actually begins installing the new XP Upgrade files and then it shuts down the computer. When you turn the computer back on, it does its little check screen (Windows did not shut down properly) and boots back to Windows 98. I have tried turning off the Power Options, I have looked for glitches in BIOS. It just will not let me complete the Upgrade.

A:Xp Home Upgrade - Computer Shuts Down During Install

take the side off your computer and check that the heatsink and fan for the CPU isn't clogged with dust. It sounds like either disk errors or the CPU is overheating. If that fails i'd suggest backing up all your data that you need, reformatting and doing a fresh install, not an upgrade.

I have a friends acer here, and as soon as I turned it on it goes to the point where it says "Installing vista service pack" Step 1 of 3....it stays at 0 for about 2 minutes then restarts. I am able to leave the computer on during bios or a memory test so Im not sure its a heat related issue. Could it be a hardware issue? If so would reinstalling a new vista OS be sufficient? I do have a vista disc but wanted to get your opinion on it first. Thanks

A:Computer shuts off during vista service pack install

sorry i meant to say i thought it was a software issue and not a hardware as i shuts off only during the service pack install

Hi everyone. I have a new computer that i just built. It has a Biostar I945PA7 motherboard, with an intel Pentium D (dual-Core) 3.4 GHz 800 Mhz FSB 2x2 MB L2 Cach Processor, a CoolMax Cr-550W ATX2.01 Power Supply, a 80 GB 7200RPM Western Digital Hard Drive, an eVGA2n25 nVidia GF 6200TC 256MB(512MB) video card, and a sony 18x18 Dual Double DVD-RW, and i have 2GB Corsair DDR2. I am running windows xp professinal and have not installed any other programs or drivers.

First, I had a very difficult time installing windows xp professional. During installation, it has turned off unexpectedly and gave no error messages. Then once I was able to get windows xp installed, it installed it with a password. I then re-formated the hard drive and re-installed windows and finally it installed properly. Now, I have been trying to download drivers for the video card at the eVGA website (http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/default.asp?switch=2), but once i run this driver it stops in between and doesn't let me install it. Also, when i tried to go to the web and serach for help, my whole computer restarted itself.

Additinally, I have also tried to install the drivers that came with the motherboard and it doesn't allow me to install those either. It either stops in between or doesn't load at all. Also, if i try and do something else, the computer has a tendency to restart itself.

Heck, when I went to turn the computer on this morning, windows started and then the computer restart... Read more

Whenever I play a movie or a game, after about 20 mins or so the display stops working. On some occasions the computer will just shut off. I have ran a AIDA64 benchmark test on my machine with all hardware devices and the system performs well. (Test ran for 5 hours +) I also checked my cpu temperatures and when I do play a movie or game temps rise into the 75C + range. I have replaced my power supply with a(thermaltake 600w tr2) and even bought a ZALMAN CNPS5X Performa 92mm FSB cooler to help but still no solution to my problem. I also tried putting in a pci-express video card and the problem still happens.

A:Computer display shuts off/computer shuts down. During video tasks.

75c isnt hot hot, but is a little hot for watching movies.

what cooler do you have on your cpu? and what are the idle temperatures?
also how long do they take to recover from the highest to the lowest temp?

this could be something as simple as poorly applied thermal compound.

im not saying it is over heating its just one possibility.
especially if youve a cpu with a built in apu and not a discreet gpu.

It all started when i opened some foreign file and it mustve been a virus or something. That triggered my computer to make these weird whirring clicky noises. Then my computer shut down. That day, i tryied to turn it on, it worked. However, the monitor didnt display anything. The computer was running but something to do with the bios just wasn't working.
Later on, my father fixed it.
However. NOW, the computer randomly shuts off by itself.
I'd start the computer on, and usually, the computer would start to make these noises similar to that of a computer reading a disc.
after the noises, the computer shuts off, and restarts by itself.
Anyone have any ideas?

So this time the problem started out as a simple issue. Whenever I bump the desk or move the keyboard out with too much force, the computer shuts off. Everybody told me that it could have been a loose connection so I checked it all and replugged everything back in. The computer starting working fine for about 5 hours then it just shut off randomly while I was playing a game. This time, though, it shut off without me bumping into anything. SO, is this a power supply issue? I'm using a 550-watt supply while running a 7800 GT. This is the right power amount so that's not my concern. And now the problem has gotten worse to the point where I turn on the computer and nothing shows up again. Windows doesn't load and the screen is on too. You here the fans and everything but nothing will load. All my parts from my old issue were replaced EXCEPT the power supply and CD-drive. I don't think it could be another loose connection b/c now nothing even shows up. Please help!!!

A:Power shuts off randomly, and any movement around computer shuts it off

Have you tried plugging into a different surge protector and different outlet?

Sounds like you need to swap the power supply to me.

I am working on a Dell Inspiron 9200. It has a Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-324S Combo Drive in the laptop case.

I ran some security programs (AVG anti-spyware, Spybot S&D 1.4), and reinstalled iTunes. Suddenly, Windows has started alerting me that it has detected new hardware. It identifies the drive correctly, attempts to install the driver, and then displays a box with the message:

Cannot Install this Hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware:

Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-324S

An error occurred during the installation of this device. The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.

Click Finish to exit this wizard.
When I click finish, the wizard immediately restarts and cycles through the motions again. It's an endless cycle. I tried to download the driver from Samsung, but it appears they have a "LiveUpdate" that detects the drive and then automatically downloads the correct driver. Unfortunately, the software does not recognize the drive.

As a last resort, I uninstalled the drive, and tried to use Add Hardware, to no avail.

I am open to any and all solutions. Thanks in advance!

I am currently running Windows 7/64 on 2 160 gig hard drives with RAID 0. New MB has different RAID controller. I know I could clone to single hard drive and install on new MB and reclone to new RAID 0.. However:

1. There are a few bugs in my current OS (including driver related BSOD that happens about once a day) and I also have an unresolved issue with Firefox hanging the system on occasion. and;

2. The new MB has different chip set, so would require different drivers, and;

3. I have some utilities, add-ons, etc. that I really don't want to keep.

I know I could solve those problems with a new, clean install of the OS. The problem is, I have a diet/nutrition app with user provided database, ZoneAlarm Suite with protocals, web browser bookmarks, and some system utilities that have data bases I would like to keep.

I know nothing about back-restore. (except for digital photos to cd). In all the years I have had computers, I have been lucky and never had a hard drive fail or crash, so have never been motivated to learn.

I have extra hard drives, so could someone tell me how to back up what I want to keep to a hard drive and then get the files off it onto the new install, or direct me to a web site that would.

Also, could you recommend software that would help me do this? Free software would be good. LOL

Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

I just purchased an hp pavilion HPE h8-1234 desktop model.  When I turn off or restart my computer the USB host power also shuts off.  I would like it to stay on even when the computer is shut off.  One concern I have is that I have an AVID M-Box connected to one of the USB ports and I don't think it is good for it if the power going into it is always going on and off.  Also I like to use the USB host power to charge up one of my video cameras and not have to have the computer on to do that.

I am creating a database to track the courses an employee takes for the company. This will also be used for creating the registration list for a class being offered.

I have created the following tables: Accounts (name of business locations), Courses (name and course number of classes offered), Course schedule (dates of specific classes), employees (name, Account, etc of each employee), and registered students (the student id & schedule id). I believe my table set up removes redundancy, so I think I am OK up to here.

I am trying to create a form that will allow me to select an employee and based upon that populate the account field with the appropriate account name. If the employee moves to another account, then the account must be changed and the account id stored back in the Employee table.

I need to have the movement to a specific record done by selection of the name, not by entering a record number (or unique id).

I have tried forms and sub forms; I have tried macros using the SetValue expression, but I can't seem to get everything I need. Often I recieve a message stating that "The object doesnt contain the Automation object 'Test table 1'." It also says to "Check the components's documentation for information on the properties and methods it makes available for Automation operations." I have no idea what this is trying to tell me.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Right now I am stumped

A:Computer Hardware Combo? which one is better

The second setup is better. However I would reccomend going the extra mile and buying a socket 939. If you were ever to want to upgrade the best choice would be here, the 754 is becoming more or less the budget line for AMD now that the 462 is being retired.
Here is what I would go with more or less, staying as close to your pricerange as possible.

I will admit we are about $100 over what your other two PC's cost, but with marginal performance gains.

Without knowing what you want for a grphics card, or price range, I chose this one, PCIe

I am currently using a Lite On Cd/DVD combo drive, and I have a very annoying problem. Whenever it is accessed (opened, started, closed, read) it will make my computer lag tremendously! I can listen to a song or be in Ventrilo or Teamspeak, and whoever is talking, or whatever music is going when the drive is opened, will start to stutter, freeze, pause, loop, etc. I have speedupmypc and it says it is using over %50 of my computers power? I also checked Device Manager, and it is set to DMA if available. But the current transfer mode is "Not applicable" I have tried unplugging the drive, rebooting, reinstalling, etc. Nothing helps. I also bought a new combo drive to see if its just faulty, but it does the same thing. Oh and, Everest home says it is an SCSI Cdrom drive. Does that mean i need a special cable instead of using an IDE cable?

A:Combo drives make computer lag

"Not applicable"? Did you check the correct channel? Are you sure it's IDE and not SATA?

Start from ground up.. How does the BIOS detect the drive? Use the pause key to stop the POST messages if they scroll past too fast.
You may have to disable any splash screens and quick boot to get a proper hardware report from POST.

I have a computer that has XP on the main hard drive. I threw my old hard drive in it and it had ME (which I thought was a slave).
Now the computer opens up with Me and I have no idea how to get back to original. The control panel and My Computer only show the old C drive and doesn't recognize anything else.
Is there some way to boot back to the XP version and then set it so it doesn't happen again ( like remove Me operating system ?)
Thanks for any help. I have tried to restart/restore to previous setting but that is not working........
a very baffled Meltedcrayon........

Have you tried removing the ME drive altogether?

New prob for y'all. I have a Northstar laptop running win XP. My little brother has had it for about 6 months and it suddenly quit recognizing the cd-rw/dvd rom drive. Can't pick it up in the bios or once you get logged into XP. Could a virus have caused a corrupt file that makes the computer lose a drive? I scanned it online with panda and trend micro and found 197 infected files. Now it also won't let me install AVG anti-virus on here. It says cant find "Shell.dll" then closes. Shell.dll is there and just in case it was corrupt, I deleted it and copied it over from system32. Thanks in advance.

Hi forum!

Currently, when I stream on Youtube (with and without my game of Ragnarok Online), my computer will 'hang' after a few minutes of video at 720p and 1080p. By 'hang', as in the audio of the video will be dragged on i.e. Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhh wooooooooooooooooooo. This 'hang' lasts for 2 minutes, and happens on both Chrome and Firefox. I have tried to update my drivers through Device Manager, and Windows proclaims that I have the latest drivers.

Any thoughts please?

Hey I was looking at an old post I had made in regards to my friends computer. I used the program combo fix and HiJack this to rid the computer of the infected files. I was just wondering if anyone can see anything else that needs to be addressed and the steps I should take from here.

Unplugging a computer & modem/router combo save me about $40 USD a month off of our electric bill.

I have an all-one computer (Not a laptop) supposedly energy star efficient. I actually done a test but I don't know if it is the computer or the modem/router combo. The computer received power while it was off, the router was always on. I changed that, the computer and the modem/router combo is now totally unplugged so I saved $40.00 off of our electric bill. The computer & modem/router combo is now unplugged for 6 to 12 hours a day.

A:Unplugging a computer & modem/router combo saved me about $40...

I use surge protectors on both my computers and modems/router.
When I turn off the computers I also turn off the surge protectors which turns off everything including my router and modem.

Everything that hooks to my computers are hooked to the surge protectors;
speakers, printers, ect. So everything is turned off. (No power)

You can also use this method for a T.V.
When a T.V. is off it isn't really off, it's in kind of in standby mode using electricity.

I have a page that I set up with a table. Inside one of the cells is a combo box. I want to have it so that when you select the last option it changes the combo box options in another cell. Every time I try it now I come up with "null or not an object". Here is an example.

"<"Script Language = "Javascript">
var num_of_cats = 4; // This is the number of instructions, including the first, blank, category.

var option_array = new Array(num_of_cats);

option_array[0] = new Array("N/A",

option_array[1] = new Array("N/A",

option_array[2] = new Array("N/A",

option_array[3] = new Array("-- Select Return --",
"Small Biz",
function switch_select()
for (loop = document.number1.select_2.options.length-1; loop > 0; loop--)
document.number1.select_2.options[loop] = null;

for (loop = 0; loop < option_array[document.number1.select_1.selectedIndex].length; loop++)
document.number1.select_2.options[loop] = new Option(option_array[document.number1.select_1.selectedIndex][loop]);

document.number1.select_2.selectedIndex = 0;

Title descirbes it mostly...
It all happened when Vista SP1 Came out, my pc failed to boot. I tried the startup repair, deleting some files that were suppsoed to fix it reinstalling vista, installing Xandros... nothing wanted to work it wouldnt let the installs start. I couldnt format my HD either...

I figured ok the HD is a few years old maybe I'll go get another. I picked up a sata/ide to Usb adapter while i was there, and managed to format my old hd but the new one I bought wouldnt work for seperate reasons. (adv format/blocksize crap)

What happens when I try to install is it goes through the whole process -almost- to the end and it shuts down. Ive tried multiple times to reinstall, Ive rotated the ram, ran a 4 hour extended 3pass memory diagnostics check, reset the bios, tried the new hd but ntohing works...

Out of desperation I installed XP x64 pro and it worked... but I want vista. Mostly bc 64bit xp is like an unwanted child. When I tried to upgrade from xp to vista, I get the same problem, I thought it might the cd so i attained a copy of vista ultimate, same bullcrap...

I'm at a loss for what to do. I considered re-flashing the bios but I cant see why the bios is starting crap now... and I cant see why i can do what I can do if the bios is corrupted in some way... I reinstalled this vista to my pc a couple weeks ago after win7 didnt work right and everything went fine...

I've been trying to install swagbucks on my husbands computer. I have it on mine and have no problem. When I download it on his I immediately (within 30 seconds) get a message " INTERNET EXPLORER HAS STOPPED WORKING. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". Then I uninstall in and the IE works fine. I contacted swagbucks and they said it's a browser issue and to check my internet options but it doesn't say what to check for. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

A:IE shuts down when I install swagbucks

Hi Victoria -There may be several reasons why you can't access Swagbucks, and these include your Antivirus or AntiMalware programs.As the site has a Medium rating, some A/v or A/m programs will block the download of the Swagbucks program.You can disable your Antivirus for a short time while trying to download, then reactivate it once it is installed.This is another way A link to Swagbucks Facebook page if you want to go that way.Tell us how you get on by doing either way, and we may have other links for you -Thank You -
