I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I rebooted my laptop after windows defender found malware, and after that, the left ctrl key stopped working, but the right one is still operational. I can ctrl+c and all that stuff with the right ctrl key, but there's no function whatsoever on the other one. The malware I'm talking about is called BrowserModifier:Win32/Prifou, just in case.

I was playing a video game and the left speaker on my laptop just stopped working all of a sudden, I wasn't even sure it stopped working at first, but as i started turning around in the game i noticed the stereo being gone.  After about a week it turned on for a minute or so and stopped working again.  I tried messing with the balance in windows, nothing happens, i tried using AIMP and If i balance it to the left speaker the right one just becomes quieter. I'd appreciate any help, thank you.

I have a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000 which was brand new when purchased at the end of December. I was using it fine until yesterday, when I went to click the IE shortcut and noticed it wasn't working. Everything else works (hover, point, scroll) just the left click button has stopped functioning. The mouse is clean.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong and how to fix it?

My 7 year old son was playing on Roblox (internet) and all of the sudden the mouse stopped working. "He didn't do anything" he says but trying to get the left mouse button to work is impossible. I have gone into the control panel and changed the settings so that the right button acts like the left, but this still isn't good because now I don't have a right button feature anymore. I try to change it back and then the left doesn't work at all.

I did a system restore to this morning and the problem is still there. There are no new add ins in internet explorer from today either.

Well... Thats about it. My left click was working and then all of a sudden. BANG. stopped. Moving the mouse with the touchpad and using the mousepad to left click still works as does the right click button on the touchpad. Any solutions?

A:Left Mouse Click on Laptop Touchpad stopped working

I assume you have checked your settings in Control Panel > Mouse Properties?

It will save a lot of time if you can determine whether this is a hardware problem or a software problem.
Try this: Download a copy of UBUNTU. Put this on a USB stick. Boot from the USB stick and choose to Run The Program (you do not need to install it on your hard drive). Then check to see if the mousepad works OK in UBUNTU. If it does then it is a Windows/Software problem. If it doesn't then it is a defective mousepad.

Why you don?t try to configure the touchpad settings again.
Did you check the settings in the control panel -> mouse ???
There should be a option and some touchpad properties which could be changed.

I'm creating this post just fyi should it help anyone else with this problem. Here's what I tried and, at least in my case, how i solved a "mouse left click doesn't work" problem

I have a Logitech wireless laser mouse and use rechargeable AA batteries. The other morning i powered on my computer as usual and tried using my Logitech wireless mouse but left click didn't work (although rt click and mouse movement continued working just fine)

Things i first tried that didn't help:
> Reinstalling Logitech Setpoint and mouse drivers
> Reinstalling Logitech USB transceiver firmware
> Pressing the "reconnect" button on the USB transceiver to reconnect transceiver to wireless mouse
> Changed the mouse batteries a couple times and also tried recently recharged batteries

Then i had a hunch (well, it was really more of a last ditch hopeful guess - but it seems to have worked!)
I removed the batteries and let the mouse sit overnight without any battery inside it. When i put batteries back in the next morning, the mouse has been working fine again ever since. Go figure :stickout:

When I plug in my USB Keyboard (Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000), an "Unknown device" shows up in Device Manager:

Occassionaly the keyboard is showed correctly as "Comfort Curve 2000" but still with this yellow triangle. When I uninstall "unknown device" and plug in keyboard, this shows up:

The keyboard was working perfectly before 15 February. During 15-24 February period I didn't use it at all, and today (25 February) it doesn't work. During this time I installed drivers to pciexpress usb 3.0 and a couple of windows updates. I uninstalled them both, but still no luck.

The keyboard works both in BIOS and other computers, so both USB port and the keyboard are fine. I once managed to use it in Windows after restart (not sure how) but it stopped working after a couple of minutes (perhaps it tried to find "better" drivers?).

I don't care if it'll be recognized as Microsoft Keyboard, generic USB keyboard driver would be just fine, but choosing it from drivers list doesn't help.

I tried to remove all keyboard-related devices from Device manager and rebooting.

How would you go about it? Note: I don't have any restore points.

I have an external USB DVD-RW drive. It was working completely fine, until a few days ago when it suddenly vanished, apropos of nothing, from the list of available drives. Rebooting does nothing to solve this problem, and I can confirm that it still works just fine on other machines. In the device manager, I have the following error: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) {Unable to Load Device Driver} %hs device driver could not be loaded. Error Status was 0x%x.

Attempting to uninstall the device driver and re-install it does absolutely nothing and takes a flat 0.5, which makes me think that it's not even trying. I've Googled this problem and no, Toshiba (the manufacturer of my drive) do not offer standalone drivers; you can only use the GenCDRom drivers available in the Windows database. So I'm completely out of options, as far as I can tell. Short of reinstalling Windows, what on Earth can I do?

I made the mistake of leaving windows update on automatic. When i left it audio was working fine, during the night it updated and i lost the ability to detect my on board audio.

ok here is a list of what i have already done so far, not in any sequence other than what i could remember. I also have tested after each change.

Installed all non-directly audio related Motherboard drivers
Installed realtek HD audio drivers
Installed Microsoft UAA driver
Installed AC97 audio drivers
Checked bios to make sure was enabled
Checked seveices.msc to make sure was active
Applied the updated KB888111 update (UAA driver) from microsoft
Uninstalled SP3
reinstalled SP3
removed all removable devices from device manager and redetected
Tried to add devices manually (ac97 / uaa)

As it stands atm i have no conflicts device manager (no (!)'s )

on board sound is enabled in bios

when I tried add ac97 / uaa drivers manually the dont auto detect and when I navigate to them via the have disk button, i am able to find the INF file but once i select it, the device list is blank. ( It is worth noting that although i was unable to add any devices i can change the realtek drivers to the AC97/UAA driver but in both casses return an error 10 (failed to start) in device manager. So i can atleast be sure they are on the system).

In the divice manager list there are the following devices under the audio tab:

Hello there,

I have been searching all over the internet for an answer to this and i read up that this site would probably give me some more help on this topic.

I recently updated my video card and my PSU. Now after i installed them both, everything seemed fine (i can surf the web, watch videos) until i tried to play any game. I could play the game for maybe 40 seconds and then my screen would black out and come back displaying this message. I have also had it freeze up with a screen of grey vertical bars as well.

I have tried several things so far to fix this:

1. i have updated my video card, BIOS, and chipset drivers.

2. i have ran driver sweeper to get rid of any existing data of my old video cards.

3. I have checked the temperatures and voltages of my hardware. [which you can see by checking here: http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt340/liljjbjrx/Stuff/Afteragametemp.jpg ]

I currently have a HP Pavilion Elite m9350f (link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01469329 )

Which i switched out the nvidia GPU for a XFX Radeon HD 6790 (link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150564 )
I also switch out the PSU for a Corsair GS600 series [600W]

So what else could i do to fix this problem? i am running out of ideas here

About three hours ago I tried printing from Word to my Canon MP530, which has been working just fine since I switched from XP to Win7 in mid-December. I got an error saying that there were no drivers installed.

I tried the Windows Update method to reinstall them - that failed. I went to Canon's site and got the current x64 version of the driver. That supposedly installed, but when I try to print anything including the test page I see 'printer not responding' in the print queue window.

In the Devices & Printers window it tells me I need to troubleshoot it. Running the troubleshooter tells me there's nothing wrong with it.

I tried removing and reinstalling the printer with the same results, also trying the new drivers.

I just got the firmware upgrade from Canon and have installed that; that didn't help either. It still wants me to troubleshoot it, and that has the same results.

Please help me. I really need to get some work done today, and I really need my printer to be working.

Hi!I see there are a lot of questions regarding the Radeon Video Display drivers.Anyone else experience this:After the latest patching of the Radeon video drivers last week (12th. of August) my screen turned black. If I try to reboot the display freeze after about 15 seconds - during the boot process (with the dots going around under the HP logo!) It took some time before I realized what was wrong, so I completely reinstalled the Windows 10 OS twice. So this is what happens:- I completely wipe the HD with a new Windows 10 installation.- I get a notification that the Radeon video driveres is not optimal.- And after about 20-30 minutes the screen goes black.- If I try to reboot, the machine is stuck on the HP logo with the dots going around! I did this procedure twice before I understood that nothing is actually wrong with the computer. The second time I managed to change the boot procedure so I could press F8 and push the machine into Safe boot. So now the goal is to find correct drivers, and downgrade in Safe mode. Anyone tried that? Is there a trick, maby download the drivers on another machine and bring them over using a USB stick? Kind regards,Jarle

Hello, recently my computer has been crashing to a desktop without any of my icons, or when the disc drive trys to burn something. So i tried to do a system restore and all that happened was my Audio stopped working as well as my mouse. Ive managed to fix the mouse, have run a virus scan and presumably cleaned whatever the problem is, yet i still cant install drivers for my realtek audio, nvidia hd audio and my DVD burner. Ive tried installing in safe mode, uninstalling/disabling the drivers. My windows updater seems to be screwed up as well since i cannoy manually activate it. Any suggestions?

A:Mouse/Audio/Disc Drivers stopped working

There are no drivers required for any optical drives including your DVD burner. They are provided by the Windows OS.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, do you have any devices with Yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed.
What is the make and model# of your computer? Go to the manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in your make and model# or your service tag # and download the Chipset driver first and any other drivers you need from the Device Manager.
If your computer boots to a blank desktop with no icons, then press CTRL+ALT+DEL and start the Task Manager. Go up to File/New Task (Run...) and type in explorer.exe and press enter. This should bring back your icons.
If you have a desktop, go to Start/Search and type CMD right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type chkdsk /R and press enter. Now type a Y for Yes and reboot the computer. Check Disk will start at next bootup and go through 5 stages. It will take a while. It should repair any problems.

Hello everyone,

I have been trying to fix this random problem on my computer and I haven't been able to find any solution .

The only explanation that I can find is that startup got interrupted and something got screwed there, I haven't changed anything to the computer, no recent updates.

My computer:

QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2400 MHz (9 x 267) 2GB RAM VISTA64

Motherboard: Intel Dragontail Peak DP35DP (2 PCI, 3 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)

NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS (512 MB)

Intel 82801IB ICH9 - High Definition Audio Controller [A-2]

I tried:

- Reinstalling the drivers from the CD, it tries to install, and then says the device isn't present.
- Donloading drivers from Intel, same.
- Enabling, disabling on the BIOS, doesn't make a difference.
- Device manager doesn't even list any audio devices, when prompted to detect, can't find any. System info cannot detect any either, but Everest tools does detect it.

I would appreciate any help... this is a strange situation because I had the same happening on an HP laptop, no solution there either.

Would a different OS make a difference?
I am also thinking about buying a cheap PCI sound card, would that fix my problem?

Thank you in advance!

So I got a headset and it worked perfectly. (Trust me I dont know what it is so dont ask) I downloaded the game Just cause 2 from steam and had some audio problems with it. I'm running Windows 7 64bit on a new Asus N61v laptop with Atheros networking card. Everything was working fine but lately I've had some problems with the wireless network dropping out. Today my wireless stopped working entirely. I logged on to the quick browser profile I had and the wireless worked fine, but whenever I switched back to my main administrator account the wireless adapter wouldn't enable and kept saying no wireless networks available. The switch on the side did nothing at all, nor did enabling it via networking or the keyboard hotkey. After a while bluetooth stopped working too. I could connect to my router via ethernet cable, and went into device manager to update my drivers. I selected my network card and checked for driver updates via windows. It didn't work. So someone suggested I try system restore. I restored my laptop to June 2nd. It didn't fix the wireless adapter. I went back to device manager to reinstall drivers but I accidently hit "driver rollback", that's when my computer restarted and the BSOD appeared. Hello,Today I updated my Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen with the latest drivers recommended by Lenovo Vantage program, as well as the latest Windows 10 Pro updates. After conducting those updates, I can no longer sign in using the Fingerprint sensor. When I open the Device Manager to check the status of the Biometric Device driver, it shows the following message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"The sign in option using the fingerprint does not even show up in the Windows settings for Sign In. Things I have already tried:1) Update the driver through the Device Manager 2) Download and reinstall the fingerpring driver from the Lenovo drivers website3) Reset fingerprint settings in the BIOS and making sure it is enabled4) Change configuration in "gpedit.msc" -> computer configuration -> administrative templates -> windows components -> biometrics -> allow the use of biometrics and allow users to log on using biometrics set to enabled None of the 4 attempts above solved the problem. Can anyone please provide any solution for this case? It looks like a lot of people have been experiencing this issue and no one from Lenovo provided a clear and definitive solution. The latest drivers must have bugs and, in my opinion, Lenovo must stop distributing them until this issue is fixed. Thank you very much.Best.

Haven't been here in a while, so I tried searching for solutions to this problem and couldn't quite find any that matched my situation. A few results came close but no cigar.

Anyway here's my problem: My DVD drive just won't read DVDs! It reads CDs just fine but just won't recognize DVDs. I've had this drive for a long time now and haven't really had a reason to try a DVD-ROM until recently since Elder Scrolls: Oblivion was released. All I can really add is that it WAS an e-machines desktop until I replaced the CPU, mobo, vid card, and RAM (long time ago). I've filled in my specs where they should be filled in so feel free to check em if you need to.

My second problem is that my CD R/RW drive suddenly stopped working after my sister burnt a CD. I was making one for her boyfriend immediately after and it just refused to work from there on.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

A:DVD Drive Reading CD but not DVD! CD R/RW Drive Suddenly Stopped Working!

lets troubleshoot:

- Update firmwares/drivers/Winupdates
- check teh media for physical damages (scratches etc)
- try burning with a CD-RW to test its not a bad CD batch you got
- disable all third party burning software (nero, roxio etc) and try test with WinXP's cd burning software
- open up the pc and check cables and such connected properly, reseat if needed
- try on another pc
- try this thread : http://www.techspot.com/vb/showthread.php?p=262352
- how long have you had it in service? it may have well died out...

My CD-ROM drive has finally stopped working for me altogether now.

At first, about 6 months ago, I noticed that the tray of the drive would just pop open for no reason at ramdom times. I did not think much of that, for I would just close it, and it would stay closed.

Then, it would remain open and not close at all. However, I found out that if I put a CD in the tray, any type of CD, it would stay closed. It could be an audio CD or a data CD, or even a CD containing a program.

Now, however, for whatever reason, the drive will not remain closed at all. Even when I put a CD into the tray and close it, the tray just pops open. No matter what I do, it will not stay closed. This means of course that it will not read a CD at all...the tray just will not stay closed. Eventually, I get the little box from Windows telling me that it can not read drive D (the letter for my CD-ROM drive.)

There is no driver installed for my drive. It is not the original CD ROM drive that came with my computer. Under Device Manager in Windows, my drive is listed as:

CD-ROM Drive/F5A

if that helps you at all. Under Properties for the drive, on the Settings tab, it does have this:

Target ID: 1

and then to the right of that, it has this:

Firmware Revision: B1.4

and on the Driver tab, it says this:

"No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device."

I don't know about anyone else, but I found this no help to me at all. As I said, this is not the original drive my c... Read more

I had a similar problem with my cdrw drive. I too thought it was a virus, did a scan and nada. I then disabled the drive in device manager, restarted my puter, and then re-enabled it. Works now, don't know if it'll help, but worth a shot.

My CD drive has randomly stopped working and is no longer being displayed under my computer. I have recently installed the DivX player and believe that was when it stopped working. I tried the solution in a previous thread of the same name, but when clicking on the notepad file received this message:
"Cannot import ....The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor."
This is the solution from the previous thread:
"Fix for missing DVD/CD drives.

Create a text file with NOTEPAD containing the following data exactly as below and name it FIXCD.REG
You should have 3 boxes on the bottom in NOTEPAD.
1)Filename : fixcd.reg
2)Save as type: all files
3)Encoding: ANSI
If you do not change it from txt type to All files type, then the file will actually be fixcd.reg.txt, this won't accomplish the desired result

Double click on the file and say yes to the merge into registry question.

----------------------- Use text after this line, contents of FIXCD.REG -----------------------------

My DVD/CD ROM drive has stopped working on me, a yellow exclaimation mark pops up in the device manager and it tells me that it cannot load the driver it is either corrupt or missing and try as I may I cannot find a new driver for it.
Also my I'm having the same problem with my SCSI/RAID host controller, my friend says that that is what controls my DVD/CD ROM drive. Same yellow exclaimation mark, same error message.

I already tried doing a system rollback but that didn't work.
I looked on the microsoft website, the emachines website (the computers manufacuter) and the properties box says the DVD/CD ROM drive is manufactered my standard CD ROM drives, which according to a google search is a fancy term for 'we don't know who built it' and the SCSI/RAID host controller says it was made by Unknown.

Anyway I hope you guys can help me.

Hey, sorry if this is in the wrong section but I didn't see anything more specific to DVD drive stuff...

Here's my problem:
My DVD drive doesn't seem to work at all, the LED light won't even come on and the tray doesn't eject or close. It's like theres no power or something, although it was working fine a few hours before and then I went to use it again and it wasn't working.

I checked the connector from the power supply to the drive but its fine, i even switched my CD drive with my DVD drive connector and the CD drive still works, so i know its not the connector.

So has anyone had a similar problem or knowledge of this sort of thing? I've never had this happen before. Is this a symptom of a fried dvd drive? It made no weird sounds or anything before it went out...it just stopped working.

Thanks in advance

Edit: Forgot to mention its a "hp dvd writer dvd400i"

And it looks like i should have put this in "Other", oops.

A:DVD Drive stopped working

Hi Hanish.

Did you check with the BIOS if the DVD ROM drive is still listed? If not listed there are two things probably had just happened. First the internal connector is loosing (need to go to hardware tech), second the drive had just died already. In the second case you need to install a new one or buy an ext DVD ROM Drive (if you badly need it).

I am running Windows 2000, my computer said that my disk was full, so I was deleting a bunch of music files Sunday night.

I must have deleted something else by accident because now my CD Drive will not recognize a CD, whether it be a audio or data CD.

I just keep getting the message: Please insert a disk into drive D:

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that has not worked at all. The Device Manager says: This device is working properly.

I am not a computer techie at all, so if you wouldn't mind giving me simple directions I would really appreciate it!

My CD-RW drive stopped working several days ago, and Iím wondering whether itís something I can troubleshoot or whether itís beyond repair.

The drive tray opens and closes normally, but doesnít recognize the existence of a disk when one is inserted. There is no sound of the disk spinning up nor any other sign of activity. The drive is original equipment on an HP-753n desktop computer running Win XP 2002 SP3, purchased in 2003. Burner software is HP RecordNow by VERITAS.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

A:CD/DVD drive just stopped working

First thing I would do is shut down the computer, open the case and disconnect the drive's data cable. Leave its poawe cable connected. Turn on the computer and see if the drawer will open. If not, you probably have a dead drive.

Hi Everyone, I am hoping that someone will be able to help me. I have recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit onto my computer. I have had no problem before today with my DVD drive. Now I have tried to use and it tells me there is an error and I should troubleshoot which I do. It then tells me that it cannot install the drivers for my pioneer DVD-RW DVR-216 drive and even my virtual disk drive is not working. I have tried uninstalling it and then restarting it just tells me that it is unable to install the drivers. I am at a loss at what I should do I really need to get the dvd drive up and running again. I looked on the pioneer website and there is nothing there to help me either.

Please help !!

Hi Kimmey
Try this fix from Microsoft. It looks like your problem. I found on another site that this solved a problem exactly with the Pioneer DVR-216
