DVI port on monitor is stuck res of 640x480 VGA port works fine

Q: DVI port on monitor is stuck res of 640x480 VGA port works fine

I have dual monitors......my primary display monitor is a Chimei CMV223D
My secondary display monitor is an Acer AL1916W.

My graphics card is an HD ATI Radeon 5800.

My primary display monitor which usually has a display resolution of 1680x1050 is currently stuck on 640x480 and in the property settings it won't let me change the resolution. The cable running from the Graphics card is an HDMI cable with a HDMI/DVI converter. I have also tried using the DVI port of the video card to the DVI port of the PC which comes up with same problem. Using a DVI/VGA converter and a VGA cable the VGA port on the monitor works fine!!! SOOOO long story short there is definitely something going on with the monitors DVI port.........

This randomly occurred overnight and is driving me insane to know what I need to fix. I have used different cables and to no such luck. My secondary monitor is just humming away just fine! But I really need my primary display.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled video drivers for the graphics card which is the Catalyst control centre suite and all monitor drivers appear to be up to date.

WHY oh why is my monitor locked at this resolution!!??? How to fix please help!!!

Preferred Solution: DVI port on monitor is stuck res of 640x480 VGA port works fine

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Sorry about how long this is but I don't want you to miss any details that could've caused this issue.

Alright, so, I have a Sceptre X20WG Naga 20.1" monitor on a DVI connection with my EVGA GTX460 card. I was using it yesterday while studying for finals and decided to hook up my 37" Westinghouse TV via VGA connection, using a VGA-to-DVI converter to plug into the graphics card, as the card only has dual-DVI and mini-HDMI outputs. It was working grand as a second screen, no issue at all. Now, today, I turned on my computer and my Sceptre Monitor wasn't outputting any images at all, it just said no signal detected and then went to sleep, though my computer was still on. So I turned on the TV out of curiosity and found that the TV was now the main screen, still with the VGA connection, and I hadn't unplugged anything since yesterday. So I logged in and right-clicked on the desktop, went to screen resolution, and here it says that the TV is the only screen detected, even after hitting detect. So I unplugged the VGA from to TV and plugged it into the Sceptre Monitor. Turned on the computer and the monitor worked like a charm on the VGA cable. I also plugged the DVI cable that I was using for the monitor into the TV and that worked like a champ too. The only reason this is bugging me is because I won't always be using the TV as a main display because it's kinda of a pain to sit close to a screen that big. So I am currently on this forum while my monitor is using the VGA... Read more

A:DVI Port no longer works, AND Windows won't detect monitor with DVI

MustangFX93 welcome to the Seven Forums.

As you discovered only the first DVI port (DVI-I, analogue and digital) on the card will work with the DVI-VGA adapter and the second being DVI only (DVI-D, digital only). It also makes it that no matter what you do the first port is considered the primary port by the video card, with the only way around it is to try and modify the bios of the video card to change which it thinks is the primary port (not recommended); there is nothing you can do from within Windows to change this.

About the only thing you can do is from within Windows set the monitor as the primary display and then use the Windows key + P to set it how you want it (computer only, or extended displays for example).

Has anyone had any issues with the Precision 7510 only outputting through one DisplayPort output on the E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator? Our organization recently started to introduce Precision 7510 units to our employees, and we're finding that they will only output to one single monitor connected via DisplayPort through the E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicators - even though there are two monitors connected into the two DisplayPort outputs on the E-Port Plus APR. If the monitors are connected via DVI, the Precision 7510 is able to output to both of them through the E-Port Plus APR. We have tried Precision M4800, Latitude E7450, and Latitude E7470 units in these E-Port Plus APR's with two monitors connected into the two DisplayPort outputs - and they all work correctly. The Precision 7510 units have the NVIDIA Quadro M1000M video cards, and the E-Port Plus APR's are connected to either a pair of P2417 monitors or a pair of U2414 monitors.

I have suddenly gotten this on my main computer. (Windows XP)

Is it a bug issue... or will that program only run in full mode?

Dear mulebit,
It actually is " ipconfig /all " i.e replace" j"with "i".Please go to command prompt under Start--> Programs-->accessories. No need for "safe mode" to carry out this task. Can you kindly provide details of your computer specifications? Are you using a third party firewall and if so which brand? What security software are you running?

Hello all. I was talking on skype and lost internet connectivity while talking. I received the error above (Firewall Settings HTTP (port 80) HTTPS port 443 FTP port 21 error message). I am running a laptop with windows XP and IE 7 and my antivirus is AVG and I also have Ad-Aware.

I'm not much of a computer person but I did some research online and tried a few things: I turned off the option on skype's advanced settings for it to listen on Port 80 and then rebooted. I also ran a command, 'netstat -aon' and did not find a listing of 1270.0.1:80/443 or which seems to imply that nothing should be affecting port 80 or 443.

I also downloaded firefox and it cannot access the internet either. The only way I'm able to access the internet at the hotel I'm located at was to call the hotel's tech support and they had me go into the LAN settings of internet options and manually select port 8080.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I recently took the video card out of my Windows box and put it in another computer. I figured Windows would auto detect my onboard graphics card after that but its stuck in VGA mode and there isnt any option to change color depth or resolution.

No driver for any monitor or graphics card is listed in device manager and I the "properties" button is greyed out in Settings >> Advanced >> Monitor and the monitor listed just says "Default Monitor".

Thanks in advance...

A:monitor stuck at 640x480 16 colors

you need to download and install the proper drivers for your onboard. What motherboard do you have? If the onboard graphic was default when you originally purchased the computer, you should be able to go to the computer manufacturers website and download the drivers you need.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I've gone into the advanced display settings for monitor and driver, followed all of Dell's Troubleshooting advice, downloaded monitor-specific drivers... I can't increase the resolution. Is this a problem with XP or my monitor?

This happened after my brother ran all the system recovery discs. It appears several drivers didn't install correctly. He actually ended up ditching this computer for a new one because he was unable to get this one online. I think I've gotten it back to fully-functioning, but I need advice with this monitor stuff.

Well, this has me baffled. My Bell Internet Security Services Activation (I just installed it on a computer not used for some 4 or 5 months) popped up a window saying "Waiting for Internet connection"...and waiting and waiting. But my Netgear wireless connection to the router in the house indicates "very good" signal strength, which I thought meant I was connected. Obviously not!

I tried opening IE. "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" (much as I expected)

Clicked the button which was showing on the IE cannot connect page "Diagnose connection problems" and followed the instructions. The final diagnostic is "Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer. Check the firewall settings for the ports HTTP...etc." Where on this earth are they?!

I checked the Windows Firewall settings and found it "off (not recommended)" so I switched it on.

I re-ran the diagnostic on the IE page and nothing has changed.

My question is:

How do I check the settings for HTTP port (80) and HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)? Also what do I set them to?

Many thanks, in advance, for a solution to my problem!

A:Solved: Help! Settings for HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443), FTP port (21)

So you just installed an Internet Security Suite which has a Firewall built-in and then you enabled XP' built-in firewall? I am baffled as to why you would do that. The new software you installed has to be blocking it somehow. I would search their website for known issues.

Or just uninstall it and use something different.

I saw this problem listed, but My issue is a bit different and the previous solution didn't work for me.

Please forgive me if any of my posts offend, as I am new to this site. I don't intend to be rude, but my ignorace may anger some. Also forgive the length of the post, I wish to be thorough as to avoid getting possible solutions that I have already tried or are not relavent.

I recently had some repairs done on my computer which involved reformatting my hard drive and when I got it back started having trouble accessing some internet sites. Unlike the previous person's post with this issue i can still access the internet and 95% of sites, but a select (and seemingly random) few give the IE cannot access website error. When I run the networking Diagnostics for Windows XP get the following error:

Check the Firewall settings for the HTTP Port (80), HTTPS port (443), and FTP port (21)

The only firewalls I know of on my computer are Windows and my router (both of which I have disabled) i have also tried Firefox and it craps out at the same exact sites.

In addition to selected sites, some third party programs are having trouble accessing the internet. This includes Nortons Installer (I haven't been able to install my antivirus yet because of this error) and I haven't been abble to register Microsoft office after I installed because it cannot access the internet for ID Key Verification.

I have a new Windows 7 (32-bit) Dell Latitude E6410 laptop, and a new Dell E1909WDD Flat Panel Monitor.

I'm having an issue where on my desktop port 80 runs very slow. Often websites will fail to load, or only partially load. I've tested directly to my modem, and with my router; the issue persist. Also when pinging websites I get results of around 180ms, but no packet loss. Normally I see around 16-32ms.

However, on my mobile phone desktop and mobile version websites load instantly, as expected.

(EDIT) Malware/virus scans are complete and have come back clean.

The problem has come and gone over the past couple weeks, but more recently it's been so bad I cannot even browse anymore. Realizing it was only port 80 being affected I decided to go through my VPN to test web traffic; sure enough, smooth as butter. Slightly slower because of the VPN, but everything was working perfectly.

Here's what I've done so far to try and correct the issue:
- Virus/Malware check.
- Tried various DNS servers such as Google or OpenDNS.
- Factory reset on router and modem.
- netsh winsock reset

Any thoughts?

There is something very odd going on with JUST ONE of my USB 3 ports (one of the two on the front panel) on my new system that has a "clean" install of Win 10 Pro. A few days ago I tried to use that port and Windows did not recognize any USB drive that I inserted. There were no error messages and Device Manager was not complaining about anything (and did not "see" the drive). I was about to assume that this was a hardware problem and that something had gone wrong on the motherboard. (I believe - but I'm not positive - that this port was working fine when I first got the system...)

As a final test, however, I tried booting the system from a Macrium Reflect "recovery" USB drive that I had made some time ago. [This was a Verbatim drive - see below.] Amazingly, I was able to "boot" perfectly from the supposedly-dead USB port! Then, after restarting the system with Windows 10, I inserted that same USB drive and it was recognized then also. BUT still no other USB drives are recognized. [Not quite correct - see below.] All other USB 3 & USB 2 ports work fine, so I assume the USB driver is fine.

Would anyone have an idea what my be happening and/or how I might trace down this odd behavior?

Thanks, Wayne

I'm curious about how port forwarding works. I get the general gist of it and NAT. However what im really wondering is how when im playing world of warcraft on my computer and my brother is playing on his computer at the same time, the packets get where they need to go. wouldnt wow be sending return packets to my external ip with the default port, how does my router know which computer to pass the packets along to.

A:Question about how port forwarding works

It answers not to default port. Run netstat on both PCs and maybe you will understand something. Source port not same as destination, by this router knows where to answer because source ports on both PCs for tcp communication are different then connection established. This have nothing common with portforwarding. Its absolutely other question.

For future reference, it greatly helps other people help you if you include your system model and operating system.  I'm assuming the latter is Windows 7 based on the screenshot (and since everything newer has native USB 3.0 support), but the only hint of your system model is the partially chopped off Service Tag in your screenshot.  It looks like the support.dell.com site is having issues as I write this though, so even if I guessed it correctly, I wouldn't have a way to send you a link to the driver -- although that probably explains the Dell Detect application not working right now.  But fyi if the site starts working, even if Dell Detect still doesn't work, just click the "Find it myself" tab shown in your screenshot and choose your OS.  The USB 3.0 drivers will probably be under the Chipset section, but they'll be clearly labeled wherever they are.  You can just click "Show all" and then search the page for USB.

Well... I had a Win 7 Ultimate 64bit on this very machine (the one in my preferences) for almost 3 years until the moment when I said to myself: OK, time to refresh. And that only because my port 80 would die sometimes....sometimes thrice an hour for 10-15 min, sometimes twice a day. But it would happen every day. I re-installed with the hope it was just a bad Win installation but it happened again after just an hour in. What I tried? Well, I certainly tried a new router, but it didn't help. I knew it wouldn't since I also run Linux and OS X in home network and none is affected by this. I scanned old and new Win 7 with every possible malware finder, antivirus..etc. Even bought one (I have an "allergy" when it comes to A/Vs and such in general).. I went drastic today, I disconnected all devices (hdds, usbs, dvdroms, pcie) just to prove my point.. left a single 60 GB SSD with brand new win 7 with default drivers .. Took several hours but I still lost port 80 (it seems to be just port 80 since only browsers and windows LIVE are affected on my system)...Skype, FTP, rsync.. they'll all work just fine while nothing else web-wise does.

Help please! Any suggestions will be tested and reported.

Anyone have any solution/knowledge to this?

Windows XP Pro
ofc had a built in serial port go bad, it was hooked to a charicter generator (don't no how to spell charicter) for a tv channel.
Installed a Controller Card with two serail ports PCI Multi I/O Controller Card, it didn't show up in the device manager was having problems getting the driver to work. says to load driver first then put in the pci card. Anyway it wouldn't work. The port that was built in (that went bad was on com 1) When the new card didn't work I used a usb with a serial adaptor and it went in fine and showed up in the divice manager and it said it was working and it started out on com 3, I no each time you plug the adaptor into a different usb port it goes to a different com port. That isn't a problem cause it would stay in the same port. Anyway device manager said it was working we changed the charicter generator to com 3 but it wouldn't work. We no the cables are good. I then got a PCI Card with one serial port instead of two and installed it and it show right up in the device manager and said it was working and I for get what comport it was on but changed it to com 1. that port didn't work either. Finally brought in another windows xp computer and hooked everhthing to it and it works. The xp computer I brought in had no serial port so used the same usb to serial adaptor that we had used and it work the first time. Show up in the device manager just like on the first comp... A:How Do I change Com.port 1 to Com.port 3? My modem is silent. Dual booting problem

What do you mean by changing COM1 to COM3? Do you want to move a device? Reassign IRQs? Physically pick one up off the motherboard and move it?

Your modem sound is usually configured in two places. One is in the Control Panel, and the other is in the Dial-up Networking settings. Adjust the volume there.

Are you running Windows 2000 and Windows 98 on separate paritions (drive letters)? If so, you'll need to use special software to convert the FAT32 file system to NTFS. I believe Parition Magic will allow this without data loss. However, I would never make such a large system change without first backing up data. There is always the chance that everything could get wiped out.

I recently started using the E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator with my Latitude E7450, but the headphones are not working. Sound comes from the laptop itself, even when the headphones are plugged into the dock or laptop. The headphones work with other devices, and the laptop works with the headphones when it is not docked.

Internet Service – Personal Router – Static IP – MAC address of LAN Port or WAN Port

Hello friends,

I have purchased static IP from Local ISP Provider . Problem is that the tech support of local ISP provider is asking em

“Which Port would you like to bind your Static IP”

Also they ask me whats the MAC Address of Router –
Pls see attached screenshot –
As you can see Internet port - 74:44:01:94:E0:79
Whereas LAN Port has mac address - 74:44:01:94:E0:78

Which is router’s mac address?

I have no idea.

I know we have two ports in router (mine is Netgear 300N Model) –
1. WAN (Internet) Port
2. LAN Port
Could anyone really help in explaining me –
1. Which one is router’s mac address
2. Static ip should be binded to LAN or WAN Port

Pls guide Thank You

P.S. I intend to use DVR for CCTV for remote viewing later

A:Internet Service – Personal Router – Static IP – MAC address of LAN Port or WAN Port

I Don't know what your talking about directly but I'm willing to try. Can you explain a little better what the isp person is asking you? From the screenshot I know the bottom section is your local connection and the top part is your WAN connection. If that helps any.

I contacted Lenovo support today and got NO help in answering my question on this T470 Thinkpad. Is the T470 able to support two external monitors at the same time (one) using the HDMI port, (one) using the USB-c port (connected VIA an HDMI adapter lets say) to two 32" LGMA68HY-P 60HZ ISP LED's ( max res 1920 x 1080) that ARENOT 4K displays!!  Man it was like pulling teeth, upside down, in the dark, getting astraight answer from tech support on the issue. It looks like my Pro Dock will be useless in this application. As soon as I plugged in a VGA monitor the HDMI port died. HELP!!

CDMA software requires a COM port to communicate with a cell phone. I'm using HW Virtual Serial Port v3.1.2 (single port, standalone install).

I have a separate modem and router. My Win8.1 PC is hardwired to the modem. Windows firewall is off. Windows Defender is off. Motorola Mobile Drivers Installation 5.9.0 is installed (directly from Moto's website for my phone although Win8 is not listed just Win7. I did not install in Win7 compatibility mode.). My Motorola Droid Razr HD is running stock 4.1.1 ROM. It is booted into BP Tools. WiFi is off. USB Debugging is on. It's connected as MTP (media device). Stay awake is on. Modem, PC, & phone have been rebooted. There are no errors in Device Manager for the Motorola USB Networking Driver.

In IP config, the IPv4 address for the Motorola USB Networking Driver is In HW Virtual Serial Port under Settings tab, I unchecked NVT Enabled. On the Virtual Serial Port tab, I selected Port Name=COM10, IP Address=, and Port=11008. When I select Create COM, COM10 is created and I can see it in Device Manager but I get a LAN status error (in HW Virtual Serial Port app). So something is not right. In Network & Sharing Center, I see it's an unidentified public network with no internet access (IPv4).

I'm at a loss on how to fix this. Anyone know what I'm missing? Thank you in advance for the help.

So I'm not exactly sure what information I need to share to resolve this issue or know how to fix it. I've been trying to open this port (7198), and no matter what I try it just won't open. I'm not exactly sure how to explain the problem, but the title pretty much says all. If there's any information I need to share please tell me.

My laptop had headphones plugged in because I was watching a film, but while I was in another room, my laptop was knocked onto the floor (around 1.5-2 ft drop) landing on the headphones jack, the wire is fine, but the ports completely broken, I can see cracks and its loose and everything

The laptop has Realtek HD audio manager, and in my experience of this program on other desktops I've had, I was able to change what port does what.

My laptop only has a headphones port and a mic port, and I would like to see if I can switch the mic port to be the headphones port because I never use an external mic, however in Realteks audio manager I can't find out how to do this. In pictures I've seen on the internet there is a "Device Advanced Settings" button (as seen in this picture http://www.vistax64.com/attachments...ealtek-hd-audio-driver-version-hd_manager.jpg) but my program doesn't have this.

Do I need to download a newer version of the software? or is it just not possible to change my mic port to be my headphone port? I dont mind if I have to use third party software, I just want it to tide me over till I can get it sent away.

Thanks for suggestions, greatly appretiated

A:Realtek HD audio manager, change a mic port to a headphones port?

I doubt very much if this will be possible. The mic and headphone ports are wired directly to the Audio section of the motherboard, there connections cannot be altered.

Your best bet is to get the damaged port repaired.

Recently i've noticed that port 50 000 is blocked, and bitcomet says it is blocked from using this for listening. Port 50 000 used to be open, and i even forwarded it to my router.

Currently i have no firewalls running, not even the windows firewall. I also have no anti-virus running. I've checked the port forwarding settings on my routers admin page and they appear correct. Does anyone have any ideas how i could unblock this port? Thanks. I am running windows xp home.

A:can't unblock port 50000 - needed as listen port for bitcomet

Hello guys,

I am being more concerned since few days about daily suspicious network traffic in my network about the below.

Looks like UDP port 137 from my private IP contacting destination port 137 to a public IPs (one source to many public destinations). I investigated these traffic by taking into consideration about 50 + offenses and 80% scan results on these PCs didn't find anything suspicious. Rest 30% detected some PUP programs from registry and some adwares, which I believe are not that much suspicious. (Scanned by Malwarebytes and Super anti spyware)

Below is a syslog log I am posting for your reference captured by my SIEM tool sent by Firewall.

<164>%ASA-4-106023: Deny udp src Internal: dst External: by access-group "My_CSM_FW_ACL" [0xb292c4f, 0x412e8e2f]

This traffic is happening on a daily basis, and to avoid security issues we have to unnecessarily scan those machines. But is this really a suspicious traffic ? Could someone please help me on this, please. After a brief investigation, if I find something good, I can save a lot of waste work by colleagues sitting abroad scanning the machines.

I'm doing terabytes of data transferring for months on end, and I was wondering if new hardware allows you to use multiple connections between hardware to transfer data to portable backup disks quicker.

Think Azure with a 5GB fiber line to RAID mirroring bay with only a USB3.0 and an ESATA port (dual banding) on the bay.

Hey Guys,

I have been messing around with Apache from (XAMPP) on my Windows computer. I know that it is not secure, but I am just testing it for right now (for fun).

I am behind a Linksys WRT54g router. I can easily access the apache server from internally (locally), and in order for me to be able to access it externally (external IP in address bar), I have to port forward in my router.

So, I port forwarded port 80 and everything worked fine. I just had a question about this.

Since most internet (HTTP) traffic is served through 80, and I just port forwarded 80 to one computer, how do the other computers on my network still have access to the net. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome that this works, but I would just like to know how. Theoretically, wouldn't all the traffic that is coming through 80 be routed to that one computer?

Can someone explain this to me?

Also, when people use Apache to host sites, do they usually keep the apache ServerName (in httpd.conf) at localhost, or do they change it to a different IP? I would imagine they would keep it at localhost, so what would be the reason for changing that to a different IP?

A:Question about port forwarding port 80 (for apache) and a couple other questions

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
