I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've experienced some problems and discomfort with skype for win8:
- not able to show screen,
- terrible design,
- very slow response (i.e. when I click RMB, the menu shows up in several seconds, and I expect to see it immideately),
- doesn't understand links to skype chat like skype:?chat&blob=blahblahblah, when I click it nothing happens.

I've also tried skype for desktop, it was even worse:
- when I changed online status to invisible (i've also tried with N/A), skype stopped to receive and send messages,
- when this or another error occurs, I try to kill skype process via task manager, TM then firstly says that skype is not responding (so i am trying to kill process), after that TM stops responding as well.
So when i've tried skype for desktop i had to reboot my laptop about 5 times in a day.

Now I've installed skype from Store back, but I still need to go to skype chat.

Could anyone please help me either make skype 5.x/6.x work on win8, or enter the chat which i need?

Here's my system: http://i.imgur.com/Fu65f57.png

Thanks in advance!

Hello sweeta, as i read your post, the solution that comes to mind is for you to confirm your settings in your Audio Manager. If you right click your Audio Manager which is usually located in the Taskbar, you should be able isolate and fix this issue . Hope i helped .

Hi there,
I have had this error for about 1 week after I installed/uninstalled several VPN services.
I have "internet access"  on both Local Area Connection and WIFI but, none of my browsers are
displaying a webpage.  Skype works, TOR works (I am using TOR's default proxy
settings to get online with Chrome).  On Chromes start page it even shows my name as logged into
GMAIL! (before I switched to the TOR proxy settings.)
Here is what I have tried
Flushing the DNS
release/renew ip
reset winsock
disabled/re-enabled both adapters
Unistalled/reinstalled both network adapters
shutoff the firewall
booted into safemode
removed my antivirus
Ran a few scripts
winsock repair
windows repair (all-in-one) tweaknow
mini toolbox
Run MBAM scan
and MSE scan
Reset IE to default.
Cleared proxy setings.
Re-installed the adapter client, service and protocols,
This is driving me nuts! Its got to be something easy that I am missing!
Any help would be appreciated!

My computer is fairly new...that's why this issue is driving me crazy! I use skype and messenger a lot because I'm currently stationed in Europe. When I first arrived everything worked great. Then, the voice went out on Skype so we started using Yahoo messenger..then the camera went out on messager...I went and bought both an external webcam and microphone and neither would work at the same time but every once in awhile one would work. Currently I can get voice on skype and that's it. Skype doesn't even give me the option of a webcam anymore and when i try with messenger it says no connection found. I'm not a computer smart person and I've tried and tried to get the camera working. I have no idea what to do about it now..I'm almost to the point of just buying another computer. I would love to be able webcam and talk at the same time!! Please help!!

Hi Alan....

have you got the latest S/W for your camera..?? if so, uninstall & reinstall the camera app, if it still fails try it in Compatibility mode for XP...

if it still fails.....you might want to try the camera is someone else's machine to check its not faulty...

if this is a recent problem & it was running ok in the past, you might try a ''system restore''

Windows version? Make/model of webcam? Not sure I can help but my original installation was a Logictech webcam on Windows XP & it had problems because the Logictech software installed a 'helper' service that needed to be disabled before Skype could use the Webcam. Now on Windows 7 laptop with built-in Webcam & 'it just works' with Skype so not sure I can help, but if this is a LogiTech Webcam then I'd look for & disable Webcam-related services, then try it again.

A:Webcam not listing in Skype

The usual cause of Skype not seeing a webcam that is known to be working is this
Is another application using your webcam?
Close any applications that might be using your webcam ? including video-editing software, virtual camera software, instant messengers and internet browsers. If your webcam has a light to show when it?s in use and you see it when you?re not in a Skype call, then some other application is using your camera.

Have you uninstalled Skype, rebooted & reinstalled it again?

A:webcam not working using skype

If the cam isn't listed in Device Manager, that would indicate that it's not recognized by Windows.

not recognized = not found or not seen

So it's not connected, not connected properly, or it's faulty.

I want to buy a webcam so that I can use Skype, but I have no idea how to install it. Are the webcams only designed to be hooked up to a flatscreen monitor? I still have an old monitor that isn't a flatscreen. (It still works; why get rid of it?) My computer is a Dell Inspiron 660S desktop and I am using Windows 10.

A:Installing a webcam for Skype

It doesn't matter what kind of monitor or computer you have to be able to use a webcam. The only difference is the mounting; some webcams have clips that easily attach to a thin LCD monitor, but even many of those can sit on something instead.

To install a webcam, just run the installation disc that comes with it or follow the instructions that also come with it. I'd look at Microsoft or Logitech webcams and make sure they have Windows 10 drivers available. Avoid cheap junk.

A:Need Advice on Microphone/Webcam for use with Skype

Skype works with a very wide range of microphones and webcams. As long as you have the drivers for the webcam, then you should be able to select it in Skype.

Get into Skype, look at the top and look for Tools. Click and go to Options. In the options on the left side, go to the Video Settings. It should automatically detect a webcam if you have one plugged in. Make sure you have the webcam set up how you would like.

As for the microphone, it's plug and play as well in terms of how it works. But I wouldn't try using an old microphone though. The sound sampling quality is usually a bit lower than a more modern mic or headset. I would go out and buy a cheap 10 or 15 dollar mic or headset and use that.

After you get your mic plugged in, go into Tools, Options, and Audio Settings. Choose the appropriate settings and you should be good to go. (Also make sure you don't forget to unmute the microphone. Sometimes Windows Sound mutes the mic because it doesn't detect it so you need to unmute it. And make sure there isn't a manual mute button on the mic that's switched on or you won't get sound regardless.)

After that, you should be able to make video calls. Make sure you have decent lighting in your room or else the webcam image might appear to be a bit too dark to see yourself/the other person properly.

Naturally, if you have any more specific questions, then don't hesitate to ask. I use skype on a moderate basis and I'm fairly familiar... Read more

Hi, after a long time I came back, settled in Toronto I found myself in need of superior assistance from the pros.

Not my laptop but a friends, by chance during lunch he mentions his webcam doesn't work anymore which surprised me cause I had to hold onto his laptop for 3 weeks while he was out of Canada, in any case I take a look and yes, webcam shows in use by another application, yet the webcam looks off and even skype is off, so instinct kicks and AV is not working, Win updates won't connect nor MB will update...tried to run Kas online...install closes by itself, and so it happens with every other malware detection program I tried, so I tell him to don't use it while I come back the next day and take it home, he managed to install and run some programs after googling around, in any case I have the laptop with me and so I decided to get help.

The internal webcam needs the preinstalled webcam software.
Did you delete or remove this from the system?
Check if this software is available on your notebook.
It?s calling: Camera Assistant Software.

If you would start this software then you could check the webcam functionality and the settings.

Sorry about the delay in a response, can you confirm the problem is still occuring?
Do you have a firewall or antivirus that is enabled.
If you do, it might be blocking your MSN and SKYPE, try PORTFORWARD.COM for more information.

I purchased about a week ago a Notebook Toshiba Satellite L50-B-166. After a few days that everything went well, for about three days, nor Skype nor the built-in camera activates again. The driver, in Device Manager, working properly and I have two rooms: a Toshiba HD Webcam and a SCPO82.

I have Windows 8.1 64-bit.
Who can he/she help me, please?

A:Satellite L50-B-166 - build-in webcam is not recognized in Skype

Try to reset the system back to factory settings.
To perform the recovery process, power up the unit and press F12
Then choose ?HDD recovery?

More details and further step by step instruction here:

I guess everything should work again booting the notebook with factory settings

Hi guys,

I have a few problems with my computer, a few days ago I was able to log with my skype and use it but yesterday I lost my contacts, I tried to reinstall skype (after I uninstalled) but it couldn't load any contacts and isn't working at all. Later today I was using my MSN Messenger and when I tried to log in again I couldn't log in keeps saying that there's a new version and when I try to install it sends me to a Microsoft site (http://download.live.com/?sku=messenger) and when I click on download keeps telling me that server not found, this also happen with other pages like windowsupdate.com

I don't have a Anti-Virus installed in my computer.

My internet connection is usually fine, I use a D-Link 615 router, and almost always have no problem connecting and using the internet. That is of course until I decide to connect to Skype, MSN messenger, or anything but AIM. AIM for some reason works fine. Skype however cuts out frequently and the webcam connection is horrible and i know its from my end. Is there anything I can do? It's pretty frustrating not to be able to talk to my friends on Messenger since i cant even log onto that. When I try that it knocks off my entire network. What's the deal here?

A:Can't Connect to Skype/MSN messenger

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

I just bought a computer with Windows 8 and I have a little problem.

Skype and Messenger are together now. It's ok.
But my Messenger contacts are on Skype AND on the app Messages
And when one of them send me a message I receive it on both Skype and Messages apps.

How can I change this ? Can I juste disable Messages app ?

PS : I'm french, sorry for the mistakes and I hope my Win8 apps are the sames as you :/

A:Messenger and Skype contacts x2

You can either disable notifications from messenger in the PC Settings, or simply uninstall the messenger app, since you have all contacts on skype.

I have Windows7 (hate it). When I try to use msn messenger or skype I cannot use them. I get the icons on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen saying they are loaded. I click on the icon and can see the windows that are open, but when I click on the window, nothing opens. I know the program is running. I just can't get the windows to open.
I am currently stationed overseas and this has been my best way of talking to my family and friends back home. Its so frustrating.
