Windows forgets Regional options setting after restart, needs to be reset to default every time.

Q: Windows forgets Regional options setting after restart, needs to be reset to default every time.

In Windows 8.1, I need comma as a decimal symbol. However, after restart it changes to dot and I need to reset it and restart all the programs. It is annoying. In Region settings, input method, Welcome, User setting etc. are the same language/region (Slovak).
Is there registry key that would prevent OS changing the settings after restart? The default settings are correct, so I do not understand where does the change come from. After OS installation I used different system language (English) for a time, because
it is easier for me to do setup in English, so maybe that is the reason. Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Windows forgets Regional options setting after restart, needs to be reset to default every time.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need to reset my Regional Language setting to default, . .

I see that this can be done by clicking advanced tab in the Regional and Language options

and checking the bottom box; Default user accounts, . . .

however this also says;

You choose to apply settings to the default user profile.

These changes will affect the logon screen and all user accounts.
Some system services may require you to restart your computer
before the changes will take effect.

Please tell me what effects will occur, . . I think I need to do this because on certain occasions I am inadvertently activating something that causes some language abnormalities to occur, when typing English, etc.

After a recent windows update, my browser displays weird fonts such as overlapping and blur. So I restored my laptop to a previous back up. The problem was solved but then the fonts got smaller. It didn't just affect my browser, it affected my whole laptop, even video games. So how do I undo this because I even tried to restore my laptop to the most earliest restore point in my laptop but the problem still persists.. Is there any way I can restore the default setting of the fonts without having to use the system backup and restore? Is there a program or software for this? And please don't give me solutions like changing font size DPI or using screen resolutions cause I've tried that like a million times already. Even using the advance settings of from the windows color option doesn't help. I've put up some screenshots so you guys can see what my problem is.

Then we I click blue button to choose default browser and choose IE new window is opening which looks like Edge - full screen mode with address bar on the bottom of the screen.

Two questions then:

Hi,

I just installed a Qwest DSL connection on my home network. On my PC I am having a problem with it "forgetting" the gateway setting for my NIC. All other PCs on the network are fine and do not have this problem. The problem occurs after a variable amount of time and does not seem to be related to network activity or inactivity.

The problem is present if the IP settings are DHCP or static.

It can be fixed (for a while) by using the "repair" feature available in the context menu of the connection in Network Connections.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Sid.

Here's my problem with Vista.

When I go into any folder for the first time, it comes up with a set of random things to sort the folders by, and random view settings.

I want every folder to have the "details" view by default. Also, I want the tabs "Type", "Size", and "Date Modified" that I can click on to sort these, with "Type" being the default selected one.

This is how I had things in WinXP. All I had to do was click "Apply to folders" in the folder options. I do this in Vista, also, I do have "Remember each folder's view settings" checked. Yet it makes up a random set of view settings for any folder I haven't manually set myself.

So, how do I make Windows Vista stop coming up with random view settings for folders? When I click on a folder of pictures I still want it in "Details" view, with "Type", "Size", and "Date Modified" tabs. With "Type" selected as the default to sort by.

Yet, it appears in "Large Icons" view, with "Date Taken", "Tags", "Size", and "Rating" as the only sort by options.

How do I stop this madness?

What program does it default to. There may be an option in that e-mail client that keeps setting it as the default. If you do not need it or use it then you could probably uninstall it and then set outlook express as the default again.

So two things; when I restart my computer my saved and in-use cursor always resets back to the default cursor pack that comes with the system. I had this issue in Windows 8.1 too, but now it's getting on my nerves because I've got to go to the cursor customization panel every time I turn my computer back on for 2 reasons.
The second reason is not one I had in any previous versions. On my laptop touch pad, I always use the invisible scroll bar option on the edge, which you can turn on through the Synaptics settings, which is now found in the same panel I use to change my cursor back.
Is there any way to make these two settings default so I don't have to redo them every single time I turn my computer on?
For the cursors, I download/make individual cursors and customized them, saving the general group in a file I call 'custom cursors', I don't download entire packs. I never have to reload the cursor set I'm trying to use, I just have to pull up the panel and click 'ok' to get back out of it, and this updates me to the custom cursors that were already on there, like the system knew I wanted them, but I just sort of had to remind it to activate them. For the Synaptics issue, I never had the problem before the Windows 10 update and I use the scrolling function a LOT.

A:Cursor reset to default & scrolling goes away on restart

I'm just posting on here again because it's been so long and the issue has NOT been solved. I don't know how it works on here, but this might bring it to the top of the 'recent' list instead of buried under forgotten issues. I guess I still want to know about the cursor thing, if that's even possible, but I'm really, real tired of fixing the scroll bar going away every time I restart my computer.
I use the scroll bar on the side of my touch pad a lot. And the fact I have to update my synaptics settings every single time is getting on my nerves. I didn't have to in Windows 8, 8.1, or 7. So is there a way to fix this?
Is anyone else having this issue, even?

Hi guys,

I'm using Windows 8 under VMWare Fusion on a Mac to access Windows 7 machine which acts as a file server. Both are part of Workgroup. The problem I experience is that after every reboot Windows 8 forgets the credentials despite checking the box "remember". Anybody else have this problem? How did you resolve it?

Thanks.

A:Windows 8 Clients forgets credentials to Windows 7 after restart

Found the problem. Apparently, it happens to Windows 7 users too.

One needs to go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> Credential Manager -> Windows Credentials and add a Windows Credential. If done this way, it will be saved and assigned Persistence: "Enterprise", whereas if done after reboot it will be "login only", last only current session and won't be saved in the system.

Recently I made my first custom mouse cursor scheme using the Microangelo Toolset.
I saved the scheme and applied it. I also re-saved the theme as well(i.e. background, colors, icons, etc.) so that the mouse scheme would be associated with my current desktop theme.

Everything works fine until I restart my computer. When I restart, my desktop theme loads but not the mouse scheme. If I right-click on the desktop and select personalize, and then select a different theme and then switch back, the cursor scheme loads.

But having to do this every time my computer starts up is annoying. So, I want to know what I need to do to get these custom cursors to load on start-up, thanks in advance.
*Edit*
Okay I just realized I was wrong about something. When I restart and switch themes and then switch back, only some of my custom cursors load. Specifically my custom re-size (i.e. horizontal/vertical re-size, etc.) cursors do not load, instead the re-size cursors from one of the default schemes loads. I think there might be some other one's that don't load also.

*Edit*
Alright, nevermind I got it working. I had my custom cursors saved in my microangelo folder so I copied and pasted them into the windows default cursor folder
C:\Computer\Local Disk C:\Windows\Cursors

Then I went back to the pointers tab in the mouse properties window(i.e right-click desktop=>personalize=>Change mouse pointers). I selected my scheme and then manually browsed to the new location for each cursor. ... Read more

A:Solved: Windows 2000 pro forgets zonealarm settings every time i reboot

Hiya

I was about to move this to Software, but you say other programs are having problems.

Which version of ZoneAlarm are you running, free or pro? Is it just the initial startup on the internet that it forgets, or any programs that are wanting to go out/come in? If its the former, have a look at this:

Depending on your version (I'm on Pro), look for this:

Program Control tab, Main option. On the Alert Adviser, is it set to Auto or Manual? Also, the same for Program Control.

A:Setting Outlook Default Reminder Time

Hi Don,

I remember spending some time discussing this very same issue with a collegue a while ago and unable to change the 18hrs; however 2 points:

1. If my working day starts at say 08:30 and I have an all day meeting, then I want to be reminded the day before so that I don't turn up late; 18 hrs is a reasonable reminder time to ensure I receive it during the previous working day. As much as maybe 12 or 14 hrs would be nice I don't know how to do that.

2. If you want a zero reminder time then just clear the reminder tick box when you set up the calender item.

Your Locale is based on the time zone your computer is in. If you change the region to a different time zone, Windows Updates and many other programs will not work, if the time is different then the region you are in.
You cannot change the Default Language of Windows, whatever version is installed is the Language your stuck with. You can Add an Input language in Regional and Language Settings, you will need the XP CD to proceed. Microsoft Corporation

Hello,

I work for an insurance company in the IT side over here in New Zealand.

A piece of software we write in-house is updated online, it checks the date format before it downloads, and if it detects the American format of Month/Day/Year it will throw an error (error is ours and known)

This is fine; however on checking the settings, the following 3 areas are set to the correct options.

Formats Tab = English - New Zealand
Location Tab = New Zealand
Default Location = New Zealand (button on bottom of location tab)

Now to fix this, we have to ask them to change all 3 above options to English - United States or any other country, apply the changes, and then reset the above 3 options back to English - New Zealand etc.

Its very strange, we cannot find why after months of digging around in code etc and presume its Windows, where its set to a location but its not 100% implemented.

Another thing I noticed, was when installing Win7 on a machine here, even when setting all 3 to English New Zealand etc during install, it still occurs with this error.

Just wondering if anyone knows of this error?

We are thinking about building our app so that if it detects the US time format it will read it correctly, and if it?s English - US it will just pretend its NZ to stop the time wastage of helpdesk time.

Thanks

p.s no we don?t live with sheep and no NZ is not like lord of the rings everywhere

You have to be.

Are you in a Domain?
There might be Group Policies in effect to keep you from making any changes in these options. Discuss with the Network Administrator.

The problems you describe simply indicate that "Numlock" is acive for the keyboard, where those keys are dula use as a number pad.

I finished the install of Nero 7 and for some reason every folder is in what I now found to be Chinese. The thing is I don't have the East Asian language pack installed. I ran a virus scan and nothing was found, then had the virus scan run at boot and still nothing so either something is messed up in the Registry, or there's a virus that AVG doesn't know about. Any suggestions on what I should do next, cuz when I try to install Virtual PC everything appears in Chinese.

Thanks

A:Regional Setting issue

The NERO Setup should have asked you what language you want to use first. I've installed NERO 7 & 8 and this was the very first question asked when you ran their setup.

If you did not get this, you have a language-specific version, that may be a OEM NERO install from a manufacturer. As when you buy a Chinese CD drive and the NERO install is in Chinese only.

The fix is to download the NERO Setup directly from NERO.

Does anyone know where in the registry I can go to unhide this tab? I need to change the date settings but the tab is hidden for all users except for the administrator (me). The systems are locked down to the nth degree.
We are using XP sp2.

My keyboard is set to the US setting and I am from the UK so I want to change this but when I go into the control panel and double click on the regional and language options the sand timer comes up for around two seconds then it turns back to the normal pointer and nothing else happens and the window has not opened. Although this may not seem a big problem it is extremely annoying to have to use a US keyboard setting with a UK keyboard and several keys are reversed such as the @ and " keys which is extremely confusing if anyone can help please do.

Hello...
I'm newbie in Script. I want some script that will change my system regional setting & language setting..
Is it possible to write any script that will change the same. If yes please help...

Thanks..

A:Script for Regional Language Setting!

When I added Japanese support to my machine (I'm a anime fan), it presented me with a handy little task icon to swap back and forth between it and my normal English. Such a script honestly never occurred to me. Even if you wrote it, I'm pretty sure you'd have to disable uac for it to function.

Can someone help me with figuring out file location for adding Japanese for outlook 2000? I went to regional setting and chose Japanese, a message said insert office 2000 CD. So I did. However, I cannot figure out where the file should be on neither C nor D drive. I used search files as well.

Short description:
Keyboard Repeat Rate & Location in "Regional and Language Options" keep getting reset everytime I start my computer up.

Long description:
I have been using Kaspersky Antivirus up until now and I update it quite often, but then I moved and didn't have the chance to update its virus list for around 2 weeks and accidentally got infected with the "gxvxc" virus. I tried to remove it manually like this:
S0. (System restore was automatically disabled by the virus)
S1. Booted into safe mode
S2. Used Unhackme (an anti-rootkit removal tool) to terminate the virus.
S3. Scanned (still in safe mode) for every possible malware using MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, and removed them.
S4. Delete traces of the virus: the fake Recycler, the virus's copies in system32, autorun.inf, in the Registry, startup.
S5. Uninstalled and reinstalled Kaspersky, because the virus somehow succeeded in preventing Kaspersky from running, Kaspersky was still able to start, but could not do a thing, let alone killing the virus. Updated virus list. Did a full scan.
S6. Booted into normal mode, ran Unhackme, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Kaspersky again, nothing found. Ran Windows Update (btw, I'm using XP SP2). Everything seemed to be OK.

But THEN:
P1. Keyboard repeat rate gets reset everytime my computer starts up. It's a nuisance having to scroll it back again to max speed.
P2. I can't change the Location and Standard in Regional and Language Options, it res... Read more

Download and run Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org), and CCleaner from my sig. Run Spybot S&D and immunize after. Run the registry scanner with CCleaner using at least 3 passes (you can change it in the Options tab)
You could also try HijackThis but you may not understand how to use it.

My system is Windows XP Home running on a Dell Dimension 8300, 1.5 GB RAM.

There are four user accounts. Two have passwords, two do not. All have Administrator privileges. Fast user switching is enabled.

Intermittently, after doing a "switch user", all attempts to login to any account yield a "Did you forget your password?" message. Caps lock is NOT on, passwords are typed VERY carefully, and no manipulation of Num Lock, Scroll lock or anything else on the keyboard seems to have any effect. As far as I know, this never happens on first system startup, but only after a "switch user". When the system is restarted, the problem disappears (until the next time).

What makes me think this is not due to a stuck key or something like that: When the machine is in this state, even the two accounts that DON'T HAVE passwords (and never have) prompt for one, and then ask "Did you forget your password?" regardless of what's typed. (Interestingly, those two accounts don't show a "?" password hint icon, while the two accounts that have passwords [and hints] do.)

Any ideas? Thanks very much.

A:XP Home sometimes forgets passwords until restart

Have a vague idea. I don't use fast user switching on my one user account machines, but think I remember reading something about fast user switching requiring passwords. So I'm thinking that maybe Windows is getting confused with the mixture of passwords and no passwords.

Did you search on Help and Support Center for fast user switching? If you get no better ideas than my guess, try passwords for the other two accounts to see if problem goes away.

Ok I have two problems here which I think are unrelated but you could help me with either or even both I would be very happy. My keyboard is set to the US setting and I am from the UK so I want to change this but when I go into the control panel and double click on the regional and language options the sand timer comes up for around two seconds then it turns back to the normal pointer and nothing else happens and the window has not opened. Although this may not seem a big problem it is extremely annoying to have to use a US keyboard setting with a UK keyboard.
My other problem is that when I try to install the Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283) the update process runs for a while and it eventually says that the installation has failed. All other updates are being installed successfully but this one continues to fail no matter how many times I try to install it and restart the computer etc.
If anyone can help me with either of these problems I would be very happy.Thankyou

It's a real PITA. Not only is it extremely difficult to assign default programs (either no option for "default" or it just doesn't take my choice) for different media, but once assigned, Win10 later forgets the default program and opens it with another.

For instance: I have assigned all audio file types (mp3, wav, m3u etc.) to open with Winamp. I've done this by manually assigning a default program for every single file type in "Control Panel - Default Programs - Associate a file type...", because every other option failed.

Later, after a reboot, it still shows "Winamp" in the list of file types. But Win10 now opens m3u-files with VLC player! Is this a known problem? Is there any solution to this? I'm going hardcore, with registry keys etc - only need the info.

And 2nd question: some file types are not listed under "Control Panel - Default Programs - Associate a file type...". How can i assign these missing file types to a program?

Any help highly appreciated.

A:Win10 forgets assigned default programs

Never mind, got it working.
