Wireless network doesn´t work

Q: Wireless network doesn´t work

Hi. I have four HP Envy notebook computers that I use regularly at work. Suddenly, starting up one day, all four computers stopped connecting to our wireless network. I tried at a different wireless network and neither of the computers still cant connect. I even tried a third and still no result. All of my other computers that runs Windows 10 (2 Acer, 1 Asus, 8 iMac) are still able to connect to all of the wireless networks. I even run Windows 10 on all 8 iMacs and they can still connect to all of the networks. And there hasnt been any chances to the wireless network. Strange thing is when I bring the computers to my home they can find my wireless network at home, all four of them with no problem. Ive tried all Windows repair and HP assistant and none of it works. Ive updated to the latest drivers and all I can think of. What can have happened. Ive noticed it has been a Windows update, but if that update have affected the network drivers, how can it the work at home. I can also add that all four laptops work if I use Ethernet. Hope someone can help out. //Richard

Preferred Solution: Wireless network doesn´t work

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello @Richard63, Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I read your post about the WiFi issue, and wanted to assist you! I understand that the Envy notebooks will no longer connect to the network. However, they all connect to your home network. If you believe an update to be the cause, you can try performing a System Restore, to set the notebooks back to their previous working states. You can also try uninstalling the network drivers, then restarting the notebooks. This should allow the system to install compatible drivers. If you continue to have issues with the notebooks only connecting to the home network, then you may consider restarting/resetting the router. Please post back with the results. Please let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution", this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for. Hi all,
I purchased a used IBM T41 laptop with WinXP and everything was working fine: cable and wireless internet, Dvd reader , wireless signal (like antenna) was flashing at the bottom of the screen, .
I had some problem and reinstalled OS: deleted partition and formatted into NTFS, install fresh WinXP.
I didnt get any error during installation, but some problem came after: internet, wireless connection, USB drivers, DVD reader and many other.
I couldnt find network adapter name in the Device manager.
To fix this problem I download drivers from IBM site and try one by one to install it.
Finally my internet start to work and I do not have any yellow question mark in Device Manger, but wireless internet and dvd writer do not work.
Network Adapter( in the Device Manader) and Network Connection display only cable internet device and do not have Wireless device type. Also, I have Wireless Link and Wireless Network icons on the Control panel.
Why wireless doesnt work? How can I fix it?
Is this possible that my laptop did not have wireless card before?
Is this possible that card stopped to work after reformatting to NTFS?

Thank you

My notebook computer is Lenovo thinkpad X1 yoga (20FQ), it can?t be enabled WoWLAN capability. The checkbox ?Allow this device to wake the computer? can?t be selected on the power management tab of the wireless network adapter (Intel AC 8260) properties page. Like this: But Wake on Lan (the hard-wired network adapter is Intel Ethernet Connection I219-LM) is ok:Another X1 yoga of my friend has the same problem, but a X1 Carbon (with the same model adapter Intel AC8260) I found has no problem with this. The operation system of the X1 yoga is win10 pro 64-bit (shipped with the laptop by default), and the adapter is Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260. I?m sure that the adapter Intel AC 8260 support the WoWLAN function, I checked the documents of Intel. I restored the system to the Windows preload environment, and it not works. I checked the BIOS, the setting ?Wake On Lan? has been enabled, and I uninstalled and then updated the drivers of the wireless network adapter, it doesn?t work still. I googled some methods such as edit the Registry Editor, download the driver (Enabling Wake on LAN) at the lenovo support website, etc., but non-effective. I guess is there something wrong with the drivers or BIOS of X1 Yoga? Or X1 Yoga just simply doesn?t support WoWLAN? Or this problem is due to a hardware failure on some batches? Anyone has any suggestion? Thanks a lot!

Yesterday i installed a PCI wifi card in my pc after which my sound completely stopped working, i have tried updating drivers, selecting the right speakers in the windows control panel and pretty much any other suggestion i found on other sites. My concern is that i might have damaged my motherboard while installing the PCI (I hit it with a screw driver when trying to remove my GPU to fit the PCI in), and that this is the cause of the problem. Do you have any other ideas on how i can fix my sound in windows or should i just assume i damaged the motherboard and buy a soundcard/ a new motherboard?

A:Solved: PC sound doesn´t work.

The test is to remove the wireless card, as of course beofre you installed this the sound worked
If it then still does not work and there are no warnings shown in device manager for the sound then I think you can presume that you have indeed damaged the motherboard.
That said, is the sound coming from the integrated sound chip or from the GPU

I have a lenovo z50-70 laptop with a built in cam. The cam works on skype, whatsapp, websites on firefox, and the built in Lenovo camera app. When I go on websites on google chrome that use the webcam it will not work even though those websites are always allowed to use the cam on chrome and the settings are not blocking camera use. Chrome is up to date along with the laptop cam driver. I even tried with all chrome extensions disabled and it still doesn't work.

Examples of websites are https://www.onlinemictest.com/webcam-test/, https://webcamtests.com/
The Cam will not work on chrome on these or any other websites that I have tried, but it works just fine on those same websites on firefox.

Any ideas on what it could be?

I think you mean you have a PS/2 mouse. Try another mouse, and see if that cures the problem. If not remove the mouse from Device Manager and on re-boot let Windows re-detect it to see if that helps.

Exact same problem on Windows 10.
Tried all of six steps above, including buying three new cables in step 6 one of those was the specific cable recomended by HP support.
Make 9 calls to HP  and 4 calls to Microsoft. HP signed me up for their paid Freinds Support and I called them 5 times.
I tried the monitor on a surface Book, and Asus Desktop and a Dell Destop. Did not work on any of them. I have installed the latest drivers multiple times and update the firmware in my laptops, Surface Dock and Asus Desktop.
HP connected to my Surface Book several times and installed two different - third psrty partitioning programs. One didn't work the other did but it was a trial version and wanted more money than I felt it should cost.
I'm using it as a single monitor with no partitioning. It mostly works but has some strange events where the mouse clicks are off by several undred pixles. rebooting fixes that.
Now I have atiny little spider runing arround under the front glass. Very distracting. How did it even get in there? I would have thought the area between the glass and the disply would be sealed arround the edges.

I recently switched ISPs (going from DSL to Cable), and that's when everything went wrong. In order to get the new network up and running, I needed to use a new router. I setup this network and everything seemed fine (all computers could see and connect to the new network, and even the printer could see, and connect to the new network). For whatever reason, I could not get any of the computers (one laptop running Windows 7, and one running OSX Snow Leopard) to see the printer wirelessly (works fine via USB). It would always say "printer offline."

Uninstalled an re-installed all printer drivers on all machines (printer is an HP Photosmart C7280 all in one).

The printer network diagnostic page came back clean indicating that everything was connected correctly, but when I pinged the IP address of the printer from the windows machine I'd just be bet with a "timed out" message.

This lead me to think it was something to do with the router, so I bought a $30 D-link router and set everything up again. Exact same scenario. Even after setting the network up with no security options (no WEP or WAP security).

This lead me to do a hard reset on the printer. After booting it up again I ran the network setup wizard (via the printer's LCD screen), and tried to connect to the network. This time however, the printer won't connect the the network at all! I printed the wireless network diagnostics page and it fails the "No Filtering" test. ... Read more

Essentially, everything is wrong with my computer and I have no way to fix it. The first problem arose about a year ago. My laptop battery suddenly wouldn?t register any charge, and could only be used while plugged in. I thought that might be a battery issue, but, a few months later, I replaced the battery and still had the same issue. Next, I started getting the ?blue screen of doom,? the Kernel Data Inpage Error. My laptop began to consistantly stop working after a few hours of use: webpages would stop loading, files wouldn?t open after being clicked, and then the mouse and screen would become unresponsive. Most of the time, I turn the computer off, unplug it, and restart it to resume use. However, if I left the computer on, it would either give a black screen reading ?all boot options are tried,? or the blue Kernel Data Inpage Error screen (the Kernel Data Inpage Error is the rarer of the two). It would last longerer the less I used it and after repeated sessions of rebooting after freezing, it would only last a few minutes. It also took a while after startup before it could open programs or load websites, but besides this, it still functioned as a proper computer, so, while frustrated and constantly attempting to find a solution, I dealt with it. However, recently, it?s begun to have errors opening any program not factory installed with windows or Google Chrome (I have no idea why Chrome, other browsers won?t open). Originally, I received an error box that... Read more

A desktop computer in the house with linksys wireless N router, Works fine can get on with a laptop wirelessly in house and outside etc. I have setup home networks quite a few times. Here is the problem and what I want to do.

Outside about 100 yds away is a steel building with an office. I can take my laptop right out side the building in the truck our out of the truck and get on the internet wirelessly with no problem. Of couse when I get inside the steel building the network won't come through. I thought maybe the signal would come through a pretty big window that is in the office but won't. What I want to do is I bought another desktop for that office and I want to put a PCI Wireless card in it one of those that have a screw on where you can screw a small plastic attenenaa onto it in the back of the computer. I would like to get a small attenena that has a cable on it that would screw onto the wireless card. in othewards mount an attenena on the outside of the building and run the cable through the side of the building and screw it to the wireless card in the desktop. If the laptop will get on the internet right outside the building but not inside can I then use an attenena mounted outside to get the signal and send it through a cable to the card in the desktop? the signal would be picked up outside like the laptop picks it up but be sent inside through the cable. will that... A:Want to know if this will work for wireless network

I was wondering if this would work it is magnetic so I could put it on the outside of the steel building to get the router signal from the house and then it would go from the attenea to the cable on the attenena to the wireless card in the desktop (this can be screwed right to the wireless card --right?) I dont want to make a mistake is why I am asking

Medium sized magnetic mount antenna for 2.4 GHz

Mobile WiFi is an exciting new thing. Many truck stops, coffee shops, campgrounds, parks and other locations are now offering 802.11 service across the country. This simple 2.4 GHz mag mount antenna gives you 5.5dB gain outside of your vehicle where you need it. You can also use this small antenna as part of your 802.11 wireless system to access your home or company network system from your vehicle. The future of wireless will be mobile applications. This is the highest gain antenna available for 2.4 GHz. The Mobile-5 antenna is only 6 inches long, which electrically produces alot of gain at 2.4 Gig. The strong magnet mount base is capable of holding this small antenna at just about any speed. For a little more gain, please look at our Mobile-7 antenna. For additional integrated connector options, please look at our Mobile-3 antenna.

Hi all,
I have a problem with my wireless network. I am running Windows XP home on my laptop(IBM thinkpad R51). I want to create an adhoc wireless network so that I can access internet from my netbook. I do not have any external wireless adapter.

So I installed the wireless adapter driver for 2200BG, then I right click on the wireless network, and I created an adhoc network, with open and no password, my firewall is also disabled. After I click ok, there is still a red cross next to the wireless network. On my netbook I can see the name of the adhoc network I created. When I clikc to connect to it, on my laptop, the wireless network starts to aquire IP address. Then it says 'connected' . However, there are only a few packets being sent , none received. So I cant use the internet on my netbook.

Please help , I have spent over 10 hours over this issue, trying every troublesooting from many websites, but nothing has worked..

I just purchased a Linksys 802.11g Wireless router for my home so I could share broadband access with my new laptop (Compaq 2500). Prior to setting up my new wireless network, I was running a server of my main desktop. Since I use DSL, I had to build a small client that resolved my ever-changing IP address with zoneedit.com... to make sure the domain name for my server was always pointing to the correct IP address.

Anyways, ever since I set up the wireless router, I can't access my server! The IP always resolves to the one for the router, and whenever I access it, it goes directly to Linksys's router settings page. I've disable the DHCP server that was enabled by default through Linksys, but beyond that, I'm helpless!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I have a question regarding my home network. I have three computers all connected by one netgear router and two netgear wireless adapter cards (with antennas, but you probably know that.) Well, the network worked well (several weeks) until we did an update on each of the remote computers. Now, it shows that it is scanning through all the channels and not picking up anything. Both are having the same problem and show a red X at the bottom of the screen, indicating the network is down. One interesting thing is that one of the messages suggests that the hardware is not connected, although I can see something is becasue it is scanning with no result. All of our computers run XP.
Please tell me this is an easy fix!
We have uninstalled and reinstalled the card's software already. That didn't help. We even removed the cards and reinserted them.
Networking is something we obviously know NOTHING about.
Thank you so much for helping us!

P.S. This is probably obvious to you, but the computer commected directly to the router is connecting just fine.

Hi, I'm trying to set up a wireless ad-hoc network between two laptops. One is an HP 530 and the other an IBM T41, both running xp pro. I've tried following guides on how to do this and configured the T41 as the host but it's not showing up in the HP530's wireless network list. I don't know if the laptops wireless is functioning correctly but they are both picking up networks within range from nearby houses.

I had some success when I installed IBM's Access connection on the T41. The T41's network then appeared in the HP530's list but I was unable to connect as it asked for a key which seems to be assigned automatically. IBM's Access connections seems only to allow other thinkpads to connect together. I've now uninstalled Access Connections.

The T41 is connected to the net via an ethernet cable and D-Link DSL-584t router. If anyone could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated. I've spent hours trying to sort this out.

I did the nbtstat -n ipconfig /all at the command prompt on both laptops.

I am requesting help! My knowledge is run out, I can't think of any other solution for my problem. I hope someone can help me.

My problem is that I installed windows 7 ultimate 32x to a old vista laptop. Windows 7 runs really nice and smooth on it. But the wireless function on the laptop and the icon in the right corner is not working. Ethernet is working perfect.

I read somewhere on this site with a case similar, where I look up the name of the driver via device manager and then download it. But it did not work (see picture).

Any ideas? I have Sp1 installed and tried to update everything via windows update. I can't find the motherboards name to update it.

Any help? I am really grateful!

Hey guys. I have a really weird issue with my Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Here are the details.

I tried to install a wireless network adapter. The installation appeared successful. Device manager tells me that the device should be working properly. It also shows up as an entry in System Information. But it does not show up in ipconfig/all and it does not even work or scan for network. When I try to use the Window diagnostic tool, it says that something is wrong with the driver.

I've tried two network adapter:
PCIe TP-LINK 450Mbps
USB D-Link DWA-160 Xtreme N Dual Band

My friend tried replacing my hard drive and did a fresh Windows 10 install and the card worked fine. So it is not a hardware issue.

Here are security softwares that I use:
Microsoft Security Essentials
Zone Alarm

I am looking for a solution that does not require me to re-install Windows 7. My Windows 7 disc is buried in a pile of boxes.

Can anyone help me to solve this mystery?

Did you find the correct drivers for that laptop and XP from the HP site? There are some machines that don't have XP drivers available, this may be one of them.

Hi all............I've been reading here for days on how to get my network card straightened out but to no avail....

Here goes.........I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista Home Premium on it and I formatted it and FINALLY got everything working as it wasn't easy with a broken DVD drive............But NOW I'm having an even HARDER time trying to figure out this problem.........

My Network card is showing up in the Device Manager but has an exclamation mark through it. Ok...No biggie....so I go to update the driver thinking that was the issue and apparenlty that isn't it either as it still won't work. The ERROR code is a 10. My card is a Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. Just in case somebody needs the Service Tag it is FCZ2QF

I am running a wireless network through my Airport Extreme. Three Macs (MacBookPro [airport admin], G4 PowerBook, and G3 PowerBook) work seamlessly sharing a printer and iTunes. There is also a Compaq Presario laptop running XP Pro -SP2 that can connect as far as internet connectivity is concerned. I can't, however, get the Compaq to find the network printer through Bonjour and also the Compaq can't access my iTunes libraries as the Macs can. Interestingly, the name of Compaq's iTunes library shows on the Macs but won't open. Any suggestions? It doesn't appear to be a firewall issue.

I've been using the same network configuration for about 4 years now and everything usually works fine. I have 3 desktops in my home as well as a laptop that all share the same internet. I recently replaced my old gaming rig (which is where the modem+router is located at). This new rig works came with vista and ever since then my network has been screwy. All other computers in the house other than mine cannot connect to the network. In fact, the network named "WLAN" doesn't even show up in the list of networks. The only networks listed under the list are the networks of my neighbors.

What's weird about this problem is that all the other computers can connect to the network when the gaming rig is OFF, but not when it's ON.

Built Gaming Rig=Vista
2 Dell Laptops=XP
HP Laptop=Vista

I am using cox high-speed internet (cable) with a belkin router.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have a new iPhone 4Gs. at work I noticed under available networks that there is one labeled 'Free Public WiFi' but when i try to access this i get no where. no error messages come up or request for password. Mainly I'm trying to use this wifi for FaceTime connect with the iphone. I am told that others try to access this network and can't get to the internet either.
What could be the problem? the strength is about 50% but even when I walk to an area that is supposedly FULL strength signal it won't work then either. the DHCP address is: subnet mask:

Well, you most likely answered your own question. Others that try to connect can't either. I'd suggest that maybe that free public WiFi isn't working.

Hi, Here is the story of my long struggle with this issue.

I have a Lenovo T520 and installed Windows 8 little over two months ago. After the upgrade I started having trouble connecting to different wireless networks ( ATT Uverse at home, Verizon Jetpack 4620LE, Verizon Pantech UML 290 and wifi networks at Starbucks). I can see the SSID but when I try to connect it, it says "verifying and connecting" and errors out. All these wireless networks work perfectly ok with rest of my devices (Windows 7 laptops, MacBook Air, Pro, Tablets etc)

However my windows 8 laptop is able to connect to the two wireless network at work, one is internal and one public wifi for guests. The only difference is our corporate wifi uses Radius servers for authentication where as rest of the wireless networks don't. Here's what I have done troubleshooting this issue so far.

1. Completely wiped the drive and reinstall the OS. Tried connecting to the wireless network with the default drivers and the same issue happened.
2. Downloaded the latest drives for the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN from Intel's website and tried connecting to the wireless network. Same error again !.
3. Called Verizon to see if there was a problem on their end. Reset the two Verizon 4G cards to factory settings, updated firmware's and tried connecting. Same error.
4. Called ATT and same steps and no luck.
4. Changed Wireless Authentication Type from "WPA2" to "WPA", "WEP" and tried co... Read more

My network doesn't have this dialogue box coming up come up asking for network key? Under its name on list it says "security enabled wireless network" but no (WPA) is mentioned on my network. When I click on it it says "if you want to connect to this network, click connect," which I do... I then get "please wait while windows connects to the TNCAPC1F9E1 network - detecting network type". an error message comes back which reads "windows is unable to connect to the selected network, the network may no longer be in range. please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again.OK". I click on ok. I have refreshed my network list, I am situated near my router, I have reset my router.
