I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, xprojectd24, and welcome to the forums.

Have you tried installing the Vista drivers from RealTek?

Am very confused by my soundcard - I can always hear system sounds, but sometimes when I boot up I can hear other sounds (eg mp3s in itunes or media player) and sometimes I can't.

I've reinstalled the drivers, the problem still occurs apparently randomly. It never cuts out or restarts EXCEPT when I boot up when there seems to be about a 30% chance it'll work!

Looking around various forums, I've found some guy with a similar problem, I'll write up his account here as it's basically the same as mine:

Occasionally on bootup I get:
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

and I look at the data the report contains. It says:

Error signature

szAppName : szAppVer : 0.0.0.0 szModName : unknown
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

Then I look at the technical info of the error which is:

Error Report Contents

C:\DOCUME~1\BOA\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERE.tmp.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\BOA\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERE.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

Some of my numbers there are different to his, but the gist is the same.

Also:

Also this is the error code when I try to open a movie with media player

Hi Everyone,

Okay here's the problem. My friend reformatted his computer (not using the recovery CDs) and now his realtek sound card isn't reconized. So we went to HP.com to get the drivers but when we tried to install the drivers we get a message saying that we need Microsoft's UAA bus driver. We googled and even tried contacting HP technical support but with no success. HP says we have to use the recovery CDs which we don't have and it will take about two weeks for them to send new ones. I was hoping someone here can help us out. All we need is Microsoft's UAA bus driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:Realtek Sound Card Problems

Okay, I had the same problem with my Payilion. You just may be in luck though. I can't tell you exactly what all drivers you need, I just got the realtek AC'97 driver update from hp's website. I'm sure you have that already, now for the thing I did to make it work. first go to start and click on run... there you will type services.msc this will bring up a box that shows all of your local services. Scroll down and double click on Windows Audio. In the General tab, change the startup type to Automatic and click the Start button below service status. This should get everything up and working. Let me know if it works!

whats up guys, i'm kinda new to the "mod" ing of computers and i have a question.

I just got a new computer with the Realteck AC 97 7.1 Sound Card, it works GREAT except, that when i play video games such as World of Warcraft, when interacting with other characters and casting spells they at first come in strong, then they fade away as if they were a mile away. But after a few casts the sound returns to normal, then fades away again. its almost like its trying to configure it to surrond sound, but i have it set on 2.1 / 2CH speakers because that is what i'm using.

Any suggestions guys, i'm really lost here, i've done the basics. Help !!! lol

I recently purchased a refurbished computer from Fry's Electronics. It seemed like a very good deal, so I went ahead and took it (along with others who were taking them).

Now, I finally got my internet up and I began to play Counter-strike. The sound sometimes messes up. I can hear other peoples shots just fine, but when I shot, it is almost silent.

Here is what I got from the Sound tab in dxdiag:
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: Realtek Sound Card. Messed up Sound.

I would suggest firsat of all to remove the sound drivers from device manager and then exit out and reboot the system, Windows will re-install the drivers for the sound. If this is not adequate then get new drivers for the sound card and install.

I have a windows xp pro SP3 system with a Realtek sound card. It was loaded with malware, and I used combofix to get rid of most of it. The sound disappeared and Im told the computer has no audio controller installed, and to install one.

Ive tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting, letting it reinstall, Ive tried installing it manually as well, but every time, I get this error:

This sounds like an IRQ problem, which is strange because modern PCs can usually resolve these conflicts automatically. But seeing that your system is a Pentium 4, maybe the motherboard is old enough to still be dealing with the issue.

One thing you could try is to perform a Clear CMOS procedure. This will force the motherboard to re-enumerate all the devices and will often solve IRQ conflicts. Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time in BIOS.
If that does not work then you could try to get the 2 cards to play nice together by installing them in different locations, if you have the extra slots.

Keep in mind that when removing any card it is important to remove it from Device Manager first. Remove it from Device Manager > shut down > then physically remove the card > then restart into Windows > then you can shut down perform the next procedure.

Sometimes you can simply install the newer card in another PCI/PCIe slot and that will resolve the conflict. (You must re... Read more

Hi, I have just recovered from a virus attack. All clean now. - Unfortunately, I'm left with no sound from my speakers. I know they work because the realtek software has a mixer/sound effect thingy and I can hear that. However there's no other sound.

I've been through the help menus. - In device manager it says that everything is working, except when you go to the volume tab where it says "no audio device". There's also no volume slider on my systray. This would seem to be where the problem is. Anyone know how to get it back?

Much obliged in advance.

p.s. sorry, I'm actually on Windows XP

Hi,

This is regarding some trouble I am having with my Realtek sound card.

I have a Realtek 5.1 compatible soundcard in-built on my Intel DG31PR motherboard.
Driver Version is 5.10.0.5436.
Codec is ALC888 (screen shot of info box is attached)

The problem: I am not receiving any audio output.

My layman's assessment of things is that some sort of output jack on my front panel is being detected when there isn't any which is blocking\over-riding the back panel output (just my observation on possible cause). The Realtek Audio manager seems to indicate that there is some sort of jack is plugged in to the front panel. Just to clarify - no pop up or anything came, I just started checking the manager when i stopped getting output. (screen shot attached.)

To assist your analysis, these are things that I have checked \ tried:

Things I have checked:
That speakers (creative 2.1 sbs a300) are powered on.
That speakers are working (tried it with another device).
That the audio device is default and enabled.
Device manager does not indicate any driver /conflict issues.
That speaker volume, system volume (both master and individual) and music player volume (have tried various applications/games, etc) are not on mute.

Things that I have tried:
Have tried disabling enabling drivers.
Have tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers.
Have unplugged cable to front panel - no change. put it back in - no change.
Tried plugging in speakers to front panel. n... Read more

I just put together a new computer and it works fine and everything except for the audio.

Windows XP pro. I havent updated windows yet as i have not connected the computer to the internet yet. Thinking this could be one of the problems.

I use an Asus A8N-E motherboard with a built in realtek sound card.
First i installed the drivers that were supplied with the mobo.
plugged in my headphones into the line out.
no audio.
I then dl the drivers on my other computer and then installed the up to date drivers and then tried plugging in my headphones into the same light green line out port on the back.
No audio.
Tried some speakers to, but no audio.
I checked out the software that comes with the drivers to see what could be done from there. The program has this thing where it tries to detect new speakers and headphones. The program could not tell if anything was plugged in. It kept on saying that it could not detect and to check to make sure everything was connected properly.

heh, Mute is off and the volume is turned up if ur wondering about that.

thanx in advance for the help.

Hi,

I am running Windows XP on a Intel Gigabyte 925 motherboard with onboard sound (CM9880) and 5.1 AOpen Surround sound speakers

The motherboard CD comes with drivers for both Microsofts UAA architecture as well CMedia.

The problem is that when I run the sound tests with the CMedia configuration utility all 5 of my surround sound speakers play at the correct times showing that they do work. The problem is this is the only place they work. The dont work when I play games or listen to music through various sound programs such as Windows Media Player. Here only 2 speakers work. Not all 5, some please help?

Is there and updated driver that I need to get for my onboard sound card fro Windows XP and if so from where

Hello.

I upgraded to Windows SP3 few months ago and didn't notice that I can't record sound anymore. Recently I started recording game videos and found the recording program does NOT record sound. But it USED TO.I tried various programs for video recording until I found out that the problem isn't in the programs, its in the sound card.I checked the sound card options and saw that all the input volume control is grayed out.
Then I checked the sound options in the control panel:
Can't move the volume there too :|

Help me..I've been trying to fix this for a week and starting to lose hope :/

p.s When I use fraps for recoring and my microphone is in the plug I can hear myself in the recorded video.

Hey Fellow Technicians,

I'm having a weird problem.
I have a HP Pavillon A730n
It's a P4 3.0 Ghz
512 DDR
blablalbla ...

IT has an integrated Sound Card which I use ...

My problem:

I previously Installed Windows XP PRO SP2 over my Windows XP Home Edition that originally came with my PC... I do not have my Recovery CD's since my house burnt down and all my computer stuff is at a warehouse all I have is my PC...

Basicly when I boot ... I see 2 choices ....
1) Windows XP Pro
2) Windows XP Home Edition

Can't Format have important files I need to keep there for the moment ...

When I log in XP Home Ed I get sound ( That was my first partition )
When I log in XP Pro I have no more Sound ( Partition Created Afterwards )

All my drivers all ok except my sound card ...

Me Personally I tried all the drivers ... all the forums ... and I still can't figure it out ...

I personnaly think there could be a conflict between both operationg systems and that I have to do something to activate my ISC ( Integrated Sound Card ) To work.

Get it off XP Home Ed and put it on XP Pro

I'm about 90% sure this is a problem within the windows registery ...

Please If anyone of you ever had a similar problem let me know ...

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot!

My thought on this would be to get another HDD.
Set it as Primary, do a clean install of xp pro.
You should be able to sort out the sound drivers.
We have the latest here @ TS, (top of this page, dead center)
Once you have stable install, slave your original Hdd to gain access
to your files.

Firstly, I wasn't too sure where to put this so I decided to put it here. Sorry if it's in the wrong section.

I recently re-installed Mirrors Edge via Steam and quickly noticed that the ingame sounds were messed up. After about an hour of hunting for solutions to this problem I realised there was nothing. I gave up and uninstalled the game.

Now all of my sound is messed up, sounds tinny, voices in songs are muffled or non-existant when they should be etc. It was fine before I installed Mirrors Edge, so i'm guessing that it has messed with something somewhere but I can't find what. I tried a system restore but that didn't work, and I tried re-installing my sound drivers to no avail...

So I have this problem right now, after installing fresh copy of windows 7 X86 I have sound problems from the beggining. It shows that I have sound drivers installed automatically by windows update, when I play music bars in sound manager is mooving, but i can't hear any sound through my speakers. I am using amplifier and I have speakers connected to it, and I have ASUS P5V-VM Ultra motherboard.
Here is photo how it looks.

So I know that my motherboard uses realtek drivers so I install them manually, and sound works good, but after shuting down pc it dissapears, pc shows that output is missing, there is red X on speakers icon, when drivers instals automatically and there is same story like i mentioned above.
This how it looks like with realtek:

Any ideas how windows rejects realtek drivers or how could I make automatical drivers working? I think that something wrong with jack detection or speaker detection, because it shows only amplyfier.

Hi,
Im having a bit of a strange problem. For reasons unknown, I cant seem to hear any of the default windows wav files e.g. startup, shutdown, empty recycle bin wav files. I can hear them fine in Windows Media Player but if I try to open them in, say Windows Sound Recorder, I cannot listen to them or use any of the buttons except 'fast forward'.
They were working fine last week or so. The only change I can remember making was updating the xVid drivers because I was having video problems with the Theorica.net package which kept causing explorer to crash whenever I previewed the video.

Attempts to resolve the problem:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled sound drivers
- Uninstalled new codecs and used old Theorica.net xVid codec pack
- Used new xVid codecs
- Was told to ensure the Windows Audio service was set to automatic and was running.

I still cannot get these event sounds to play as they should. I'm totally stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I just got a new computer today and have this lovely issue of having terrible sound coming out of my speakers. I have an Asus M4A89GTD PRO, onboard sound RealTek ALC 892.

Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster V8
RAM: 8GB (4 x 2GB) Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600
HD: 300GB Western Digi VelociRaptor + 1TB SATA-II
Motherboard: ASUS M4A89GTD Pro
PSU: Corsair 950W
GPU: ASUS 1GB Radeon HD 5870
Case: In-Win Ironclad (Comes with 250mm side fan)
Monitor: ASUS 24" VW246H 2ms HDMI

The issue is that when I plug in my stereo speakers, the sound produced is muffled with some static. Overall, disgusting sound and I have Harman/Kardon speakers (2 speakers, 1 sub). There are two plugs (one lime green, one black) and I connect them to the corresponding colors on the audio inputs and the sound produced is ghastly. It is not crisp and my phone's ringtone is better than what I am hearing. I truly believe there is a problem here, not that I am judging the quality of sound... I believe something is not functioning properly. Sometimes the sound is either somewhat muffled or muffled beyond recognition. (Plugging either the lime green or black plug into the lime green jack makes no difference. As long as one is in the lime green jack, audio is heard but obviously terrible.)

I have had these speakers for a few years and they have served two previous computers magnificently. I cannot fathom that it's just "that bad".

I ... Read more

Alright well first off, I just moved a new hard drive into this computer, the hard drive had Win XP 64 bit on it, and it worked just fine on my other computer.
This computer is:
Windows XP 64bit/Linux Slackware
Acer Aspire M1201
Mobo: RS740M03A1-8EKRS2

So what's going on is, my computer detects my sound card to be used with Realtek audio driver, so it automatically installs it. But, in Realtek, all of the sound tests work but in the playback menu, there is no audio devices. When I go to Volume Control I get the "No mixer selected" error. In total, I basically have the exact same problem as this person:
http://forums.techguy.org/all-other-software/349298-no-audio-mixer-device-realtek.html
And on this site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/no_active_mixer_devices_available.shtml

But unfortunately, both of them, I went through all error procedures and neither worked. I DO have audio enabled in BIOS, I DO have windows sound service enabled.

The only thing that I believe could be causing this is ATI has automatically installed another sound driver, I disabled it in Device Manager but I still get no sound.

When I plug my headphones into the front port of my computer, Realtek detects it and says something was plugged in, it will play the speaker test and the 3d sound test out of the headphones perfectly well, but nothing else will work.

What is going on? I do not want to reformat this hard drive for that it has all of my personal data and files I need, and I do not ... Read more

A recent Windows updated is causing the following error message on machines supplied with Realtek sound cards:

Rthdcpl.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation

Or

The system DLL user32,dll was relocated in memory The Application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because DLL C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for windows system DLLs The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DDL.

Microsoft have released a fix for this problem, which can be downloaded from the following location:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/

I suspect that a later Windows Update contains a fix for this, so ignoring the thing may well pay off!

Hey, I recent put together this new rig. I'm using the onboard sound card for my Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 mobo. The sound chipset is Realtek ALC889. I've updated the latest drivers, but there is crackling/static noise when I play music.

Currently I mainly use a 2.1 speaker system. But Ive tried testing it with headphones the static/crackling noises persists. It is not constant, but it shows up periodically. Furthermore, when there is no music/sound playing the noise is not there. This leads me to believe its a hardware/driver issue and not so much a speaker/interference issue.

I'm stumped on this and any help would be appreciated, the noise is annoying.

A:Realtek onboard sound card: Static/Crackling noises

Do you have a wireless (wi fi) connection? They have been known to cause this. A cordless phone or cell phone sitting close by is also a potential. Video card/drivers have also been another issue.

There are many possibilites and many forum posts about this problem, here, on the Dell users forum and other internet computer forums. No "one fix" for the problem.

Hi.

I have a P300 with Realtek internal sound card and updated drivers.
I NEED a stereo mix in Recording Devices but I currently only get a MIC input, even after checking "Show Disconnected and Disabled Devices"

Yes, I HAVE updated the HD Audio Drivers from both this website and Realtek and still nothing.
The only other thing that might affect this but I can't see how is that I use ASIO4ALL sound drivers in conjunction with the Realtek drivers.

I'm running Vista 32bit Home Premium Edition

A:Satellite Pro P300 has NO Stereo Mix in Vista with Realtek sound card

Hi mate

I?m confused? do you know why?
Because you are talking about Realtek sound driver and sound chip and from my knowledge the Satellite Pro P300 has been equipped with the Conexant sound chip!

It?s NOT Realtek chip! It?s Conexant!

From my experience Conexant sound chip does not support stereo mix in Recording Devices!

My problem:

I hear a weird fading (laserlike sound) when I plug in speakers or headphones. I can,t hear any normal sound.
The sound begins to come out upon the whole startup process.

It was working fine and one day i added a hardrive to the machine just to extract some data I needed. I removed the harddrive and booted up like normal, and sound was not working.

*When I open the master volume i can see the sound waves but cant hear them*

Ive already:
-Uninstalled drivers and reinstalled from realtek website
-Check in BIOS to make sure integrated audio was enabled
-I tried updating the drivers
-Also uninstalled and rebooted allowing the system to automatically detect and it installs properly, however I can SEE the wave sounds but cant hear it.
-Also already Re-imaged my machine to factory settings using the HP recovery utility and still same thing.
-I reseated the front panel audio cable , even left it unplugged to test the rear panel but rear panel makes the same weird laser fading sound.

Please help..its been about a month and Ive run out of Ideas.

I have an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo with onboard Realtek ALC850 sound, with an Nvidia 8600 GTS and running Windows XP. I've been using this system for almost 3 years, but just today my sound stopped working. I used the connector sensing and it does sense my speakers correctly, and video plays fine, but no audo is made. However, when I boot up my computer, the windows boot-up music plays, but nothing after that will work.

I'm trying to use just normal, 2-channel audio, but I've also tried headphones with no success. My audio driver is version 5.10.0.6280.

Thanks!

I got the updated drivers from the realtek site, and to no avail. Can anyone direct me to a source of information or a set of drivers that work?

Games that do not work:

Disappointing - installed new ASUS A8V-e deluxe. Sound system (5.1) wrosk from disktop, meaning I can validate all channels. Then, in Counter-Strike, only center, subwoofer work. Any suggests would be appreciated. The A8V-e has limited PCI slots, not much room for a sound card! Plus, I bould the board so I would not need a sound card.

A:Problems with RealTek Sound Manager

You could just tell the drivers to use a head phone anyways by going to "speaker configuration" then clicking on headphones. If that dosen't work you can override it by just correcting what it sees in the sense connecting page.

I am hearing nothing but pops and clicks in my audio. I have looked all ove this forum, found some solutions, installed all of the latest Realtek audio drivers, un-installed, re-installed, rebooted, updated BIOS and all that, and nothing has been working. Any ideas? Also, I can't seem to get Windows to install the latest Realtec AC'97 codecs. From the website of Gigabyte, we can tell the specifications of your mobo:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=3003&ProductName=GA-MA790GP-UD4H

OK,
1. The audio compenent of the Gigabyte MA790GP-UD4H (rev.1.0) is the ALC889a.
We should install the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver but not the
Realtec AC'97 Driver to enable your ALC889a work.
You can refer this to the Gigabyte's download center for your mobo:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=3003&ost=others#anchor_os

2. The newest Realtek HD Driver is v. 2.26, you can download it from the official site of the Realtek:
http://www.realtek.com/Default.aspx?Langid=1
(You are advised to google a better place to download, every time when
the Realtek releases a new driver, their officila site shoud be just paralyzed.......)

3. I downloaded the manual of your mobo, and from page 88 to 95, there is some explanation of the configuration for the sound system of your mobo.

The above is just my imaginatio... Read more

Hi guys...
I just plugged my Onkyo 6.1 Channel (S-680) to my computer. I connected the receiver to the Digital Out port of my motherboard (Intel 915GV Chipset-Asus PTGD1 - LA). It uses the Realtek ALC880 drivers. Whenever I open Sound Effect Manager and do the Speaker Test, sound comes only from my front speakers. The rears/centre/sub all light up but no sound is played. However, while running games/music/films I get sound from all my speakers (though not very satisfactory and not real surround sound). Can anyone please help me with this?

Also, I can't open Realtek HD Audio Manager (RTHDCPL.exe). Only RTLCPL.exe (Sound Effect Manager) works. When I click on RTHDCPL.exe nothing happens. Please do help out.

Thanks.

A:No Sound From Surround/Centre/Subwoofer In Realtek Sound Effect Manager Test

try this:

1) try to go to the settings of your sound effect manager & there are selections there for 2.0,2.1.5.1 or what ever you may find that corresponds to your speaker channel.

2) if nothing corresponds to the given selections, try to download the latest audio driver from your motherboard's manufacturer website.

3) otherwise, you need to plug-in a sound card that has the feature to play with 6.1 channel audio.

I recently installed a new motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990FX. It has an on-board sound card "Realtek? ALC 892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC". I'm using 5.1 surround speakers from creative. Speaker fill with windows update driver, or Realteks driver from Asus' website, has the same outcome.

The problem is that the back speakers, when playing music, sound like an mp3 playing at 24kbps or something of the sort. This is not the first time this has happened, and ever since windows vista, this problem has occurred in every on-board sound card i have dealt with. I have heard different reasons such as DirectSound3D Hal in Windows Vista being removed, on-board sound cards just sucking, drivers sucking, etc.

The only time the rear speakers sound right, is when i test the speakers with windows, with the software from Realtek, Or using some media player that i cant remember the name of anymore that had an option to fix this problem only for music played in that media player. But I just want all sound to play through them right. I don't watch movies on this computer and usually don't play any games, so i don't really care about the surround affect. I just want all the speakers putting out sound in stereo.

At this point I really don't care if i need a third party software to fix this issue and just for the record, no I do not have room in my system for an internal sound card, and I really don't want to deal with an external one either. I'd rather just never fix the i... Read more

A:Realtek onboard sound card with 5.1 surround speaker fill problem

The first step once confirmed that the correct drivers and by the way sound app is installed is to set to the speaker settings for 5.1 or 4 speakers depending on preference. You may want to check on the Windows sound mixer settings as well since many often forget about that other mixer being there.

The first test once the settings are looked over is going into the Control Panel>Sound section there to run the test/configuration wizard which will verify each pair of speakers first front then back as you go along. That is found in the Playback tab when first clicking on the CP>Sound and seeing the popup window appear.
(refer to attached images for both Windwos sound mixer, Sound configuration wizard)

As you will see from the second image there for the configuration wizard I use a separate expansion card(preferred here) while you would still look through that wizard. With the Creative Audio Console/Volume Panel you generally expect a move evolved mixer.volume control panel while most onboard sound setups also provide some smaller form of mixer app you would need to look at as well.

Another trip up found with some 5.1 speaker sets is on the center speaker or other volume and balance controls where sometimes tweaking them is required when it seems sound will drop off from the rear speakers. If the bass is up a bit the quality of sound from the rear pair despite having a woofer below can suffer! Then you have to tweak the tremble if these controls are present to clean up th... Read more
