Thinkpad W500 Windows 10 installation - seems to work, but mouse touchpad does not work

Q: Thinkpad W500 Windows 10 installation - seems to work, but mouse touchpad does not work

Hello... I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W500, purchased some years ago. It was running Windows 7 Pro. Any discs that might have come with it are long lost. I made the disastrous decision to upgrade to Windows 10. To do this, I used "Create Windows 10 installation media" from this this link. I put it on a USB flash drive, configured my W500 BIOS to load from "USB HDD" first, and proceeded. After several attempts, it finally managed to load what appears to be Windows 10 (clean install w/o Product Key, for now) to the point where I gave it my Micosoft ID and it even loaded the correct wallpaper photo, etc, and there was a Taskbar which briefly appeared before hiding. But after that, nothing... integrated mouse touchpad unresponsive (in fact, no arrow pointer on screen at all). I know the mouse pad is working, because if I insert the "W10 installation media" flash drive, I can select "Repair PC" instead of "Install W10" can then get a command prompt (with a arrow pointer that moves around). But none of the other options seem to work (it detects none of my W7 recovery partitions, W7 Restore points... nothing. Startup repair reports back nothing. I don't think I am eligible for Lenovo Recovery Media, as the eligibility page does not recognize my Thinkpad S/N. At this point, I'd be happy to just re-install W7 (I have a valid Product Key), but I can't even "Submit digital download recovery order" since Lenovo won't recognize my S/N. At this point, I'm not quite sure which options I even have. Any help would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and trying SP Photo Recovery. It will help find and retrieve your lost files.

I've used it in the past to recover photos, music, videos, and other multimedia files, regardless if the file has been deleted, lost, damaged or corrupted.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/UDbKNE. (This link will open the download page so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just got thinkkpad T570 (512 ssd, core i7, windows 10 pro, 16 ram, UHD).Usually the movement of touchpad is perfect, when I just move the point with doing nothing.  However, when I open pictures, setting and access to websites ( even this website), touchpad, trackpoint adn mouse are getting slower, does not move seconds, and losing the cursor, and moves sort time, this happens constantly, then eventuall, the cursor keeps freezing. I tried to move touchpad, track point and mouse, moreover, typing keyboard, nothing happens. but when I turn it off, into sleepying mode, and turn on. Then it works. Is there any solution to this issue?

Hi, This has happened to me before, a while ago, and am afraid I don't remember how it was fixed before...But recently my mouse pointer disappeared again and the touchpad doesn't do anything. When I click Ctrl, I see where the mouse pointer should be, but it doesn't reapear. Selecting F6 does nothing. I've googled and scanned the forums, but all proposed solutions don't work. Help? Thanks!

Hi, the touchpad and trackpoint in my X220 notebook don't work. I've tried under Windows 7, 8, 10 x64, and Linux too, but no success. I've tried several drivers, UltraNav and Synaptics with no results. They are enabled in the BIOS (ver. 1.42). The device manager recognises the hardware as "This device is working properly." Hey guys, today I've got my new Thinkpad Yoga and it's really nice but I don't know if it's the driver or the touchpad it self. I can't push the right mouse button. Whether I use the double tab nor the right corner (at the top or bottom), nothing happens. left click works fine, but only if I activate the on tab option. Already tried to uninstall the driver and reinstallt the new version from the website nothing changed. And sometimes the touchpad and the trackpoint don't work at all. I'm using Windows 8.1 x64. Thanks for your help! lg

I've recognized something. Sometimes when I use a "click" function of the touchpad a small touchpad icon appears on the notification area. But you can see it only a short time. I think it is definitely a driver issue. Am I the only one?

Hi, My mouse and my touchpad are not working.. Initially it was just the mouse, so I've tried this:- to install the drivers through the Device Manager (and it didn't work);- to do a diagnostic, through the Configure a device, under troubleshooting in control panel (where he uninstalled the driver and installed it again) - not only didn't work but it took my synaptics driver of the PC! From then on, my touchpad ceased to work... Meanwhile, I've tried to install again through the device manager and also by hand. Two different drivers (I think) - the latest one from synaptics website (PS2) and the latest one from lenovo website. I tried to install them separately and also in different orders, but still with no effect.. Here are some screenshots: ????  Please, help me. I really need to put this working! Thank you,JosÚ

Hello. Last week a got a brand new ThinkPad E460 factory sealed for work. And it've had troubles with it out of the box, I have a ThinkPad T450s private and have never experienced anything like this on my private laptop. So of the bath to tends to freeze at Lenovo logo in BIOS boot screen. And I have to press a bunch of keys for it to continue. I think I might have fixed this issue by disableing secure boot and anti-theaft. It didn't always happen, but it happend every morning at work. I disabled these features now so I can't confirm or deny if that problem is competely ficked. I have of coruse updated the BIOS and all drivers. My second issue is that EVERY time, not only when I restart but also if I sign out of my account and back in again is that my TouchPad refuse to work if I don't click a key (any key) on the lenovo keyboard in addition to this left arrow key is in a loop. This is really annoying as I use this with a dock at my workplace. If I move the coursor to a textfield with my external mouse or the Trackpoint (that works fine regardless if I click on the keyboard or not) I will see the corusing being moved to the left contantly untill I click a key at the keyboard. What is going on? These issues seems really strange to me and not something you'd epxect.

Dear all,
I have a strange problem with my laptop (toshiba satellite pro U300, operative system windows xp professional). The left click of the mouse is working completely random. When I open ANY new window sometimes it works sometimes it does not. And when it does not work i cannot click anywhere else (the mouse pointer still moves though). The only solution is pressing ctrl-alt-canc, opening task manager and closing it right after (i do not need anything else, just opening and closing it). In this way it starts to work again. Other noticed problems: when i use firefox most of the time i click over a link the window suddenly loads back to the previous displayed page, as if i had pressed the backspace button. Finally when i use thunderbird if i click for example over "incoming mails" it sudden jumps over "sent mail" or some other place. It is impossible for me to work. And guys IT IS NOT THE MOUSE, because i tried to disconnect it and using the touchpad and i have the same problem. I restarted twice the computer but nothing changed. I scanned my pc with AVG, there was a virus called Gaelicum.A (see log below) but it was healed (note that the exe files within the path C:\condivisa\incidenze2.1.0 are fortran files that i wrote and compiled, they are not virus. I restarted other 2 times but it is still not working.
Any suggestion?
thank you very much
Alberto

Occasionally, my laptop's touchpad won't work on start-up. This does not happen all the time, it appears to happen every other boot. I can plug a USB mouse at any moment and have that work fine. This also only happens on Windows 7 from what I can tell, as I dual-boot with Ubuntu and Ubuntu has never given me this problem before. I can also use safe mode with Windows 7 and have the touchpad function fine all the time.

If I look into the device manager when the touchpad is unresponsive, it will say that the PS/2 mouse failed to start.

I've updated it to the most recent driver as found here:
http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers

But this problem still persists. Any ideas how I can figure out what's wrong?

I bought a used W530 with 24 gigs ram, i7 cpu.  I've installed all the latest drivers on lenovo's support.  Everything seems to work great except the touchpad (touchpad did the same thing before I updated anything).  When sliding my finger across sometimes it just stops and the cursor won't move again until I firmly tap twice, almost like the cursor is frozen in place and the taps wake it up.  Other times the cursor will jump to the other side of the screen when scrolling.  Sometimes it clicks with the slightest touch, and other times I have to firmly tap. I've read most of the issues on this forum but they don't sound like this problem.  This feels like a flakey touchpad.  I see on ebay you can get the touchpad sticker/cover, the entire palmrest with ribbon cables, or the touchpad sensor board.  If I can't fix the issue with software, is the problem most likely the palmrest piece or the sensor board?  I'm assuming the sensor board is what the palmrest plugs into somewhere by the motherboard, but I'm not sure as I haven't torn into it yet and the maintenance manual doesn't show that sensor board. I'm going to attempt disabling the trackpoint in the driver as I just found that suggestion on the forum and see if that fixes the touchpad.  If that solves the problem, is there a hardware fix for the trackpoint or is that just getting a replacement keyboard?  I doubt that will be the issue since the trackpoint and all... Sometimes when i start the laptop and the mouse driver wont load properly so i have to use keyboard to go Device Manager and click Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad and rightclick and click Uninstall. The uninstallation went successful and the touchpad is working. But the problem occurs when i shut down laptop and next when i wish to use the laptop the problem's there.

Computer help from Paltalk advised me to uncheck and recheck Synaptics mouse on msconfig and i tried that and it didnt work.

Been went to PC World this afternoon and show to man and he checking and puzzling and advised me that he think mouse driver wasnt the problem but something is affecting mouse driver so advised a reinstall of XP. That why im looking for more solution to repair the problem without reinstall of XP.

Thanks for help.

((Sorry if this is in the wrong topic. I'm very new to this.)) So about a few hours earlier I spilt some water on the top part of my keyboard - so I turned it off, took out everything plugged in to it such as the mouse, charger and battery and i left it open to dry. I returned an hour later to find that my L button didn't work as well as it did earlier (it didn't appear as much when pressed.) and at times it would consistently spam the number 9 when it wasn't even being pressed. I got someone to help me, and they blew into the keys and got rid of the dust underneath. So now I log on again, and now here's the strangest part: I have Ubuntu 17.04, and it made the same sound it makes when you experience a 'fan error' on your computer - if you get a fan error, you hear a beeping sound and your computer shuts down again, for me, it just continues its normal startup. When I get to my login screen, none of my keys work at all now, and neither does part of my wired mouse (I can move it, but I can't click.) Which I think is strange because it wasn't even near the water spillage in the first place and only the TOP part of my keyboard was covered with water, yet other parts are affected by this. Do you think I've just been an idiot and accidentally fried my entire keyboard, or could this be something more malicious? Or maybe I should just get a new computer? Please help! I really need to get my candidate notebook and my assignment finished by June, and if I can't log on by then I'll lose... Read more

Alright guys, Windows update has been really messing with my pc lately. I ran update and when it installed the updates my integrated mouse ended up not working. I rolled back update and installed the updates one by one and the one I ended up not installing was the camera codec pack. Now the problem I am having is that my touchscreen won't work. If I talk to HP support they do the most basic thing they can and then when they can't fix it they tell me that I have to ship it to them because hardware is broken. (obviously not the case because uninstalling an update fixed my problem.) If you guys know what update is at fault or if you know how to diagnose the problem I would be grateful.

Thank you.

A:Mouse won't work now touchscreen won't work. Windows updat

There's no shortcut I know of. It's a matter of roll it back so the system works normally. Install the next update in the list. Test. Repeat.

Until you find the culprit.

It may be a good idea to write down the updates on a pad of paper as you install them. Over time it's easy to lose your place in the list. Especially with rebooting etc..

Hi there, first off, I'd like to say that I am using a Dell XPS l502x. Yesterday I was cleaning my keyboard and palmrest, and i think some liquid got inside the mouse buttons and the power button, because they malfunction now. The mouse buttons do not work, and the power button only works when I press it sometimes. When I do press the mouse buttons, sometimes the laptop will go to sleep or on standby. I'm thinking of buying a replacement for the palmrest because it contains both the power button and touchpad, as well as the mouse buttons, but I need confirmation so that I don't end up wasting money if it doesn't work. Is there anything I can do?

This is my first time posting here, I appreciate any help. Thanks .

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Hello, I have spent a long while using my Lenovo ThinkPad W500 laptop with Windows 7 and with Office 2010. Recently, unfortunately, the physical device accumulated enough injuries that I decided to obtain a replacement: same W500 model, however loaded with more up-to-date software: Windows 10, and Office 365. I am trying to become accustomed to the nuances thereof: some are welcome (faster start-up, useful features), whereas other simply are frustrating (e.g., programs much more heavily demand an Internet connexion, and constantly seeks one when this is inactive; many applications have a "desktop" version as well as a "tablet," the latter of which launch by default, despite the former are more robust). Anwyay, the new laptop does not seem to have come with many of the ThinkPad features of the old: I cannot use the fingerprint reader; the multi-touch gestures of the touchpad do not function (e.g., chiral scrolling, two-finger scrolling, middle button to launch Web links); the function keys (F-2 through F-12) do not work; and a few other points. May someone please recommend the best drivers to download, as well as where to find them, for a W500 to operate on Windows 10? Overall, I am wishful to become comfortable with the new operating system, rather than just roll back to Windows 7 (which will cease to be supported by Microsoft, in 2020). Thank you, all, very much.

Hello! So yesterday morning my laptop completely shut down and I couldn't figure out what was happening. I had things to do, so I left it. When I came home, I opened it up and found out that the entire thing had been updated to Windows 10, and I don't know how since I never gave permission. Anyways, I figured there was nothing I could do so I got over it. But as the day went on, I discovered that my touchpad doesn't work whatsoever. I searched this problem and heard that I'm supposed to tick scrolling off in settings. Since then, two finger scrolling works, but NOTHING ELSE (even though all the boxes are ticked). This is very frustrating because I now can only use my laptop with a mouse, which means it's basically a computer for the time being. I got this laptop in 2014 (It had windows 8 or 8.1 on it at the time ofc) Then I upgraded to windows 10 and for about a year it was fine but then it broke for unrelated reasons. Not hardware reasons though. And I forgot about it, then I decided to install Linux mint to it and it worked fine. Then I decide to go back to windows 10 and the touchpad didn't work. So I went to linux again. Repeat x5 and now I'm at #6 and it still doesn't work! And it works on linux perfectly!

Also I have tried download the Synaptics drivers but it doesn't work

If you check Settings, Device, Mouse & touchpad, there should be some options for the touchpad.  One of those is touchpad on and Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected.
Below those options it should say "no mouse connected" if you have removed the external mouse.  I have seen at least one poster who stated the settings always showed a mouse connected.  If that were to be the case and you had turned the touchpad off with mouse connected, your touchpad may not work
Could you check those settings and see what you show.
I assume, since you can load drivers, the touchpad is showing in Device Manager..

My laptop is HP envy 15t-ae000 CTO which run windows 8.1 . Today i updated my OS and restarted the system and found out that i am not able to use my touchpad.  I tried reinstalling the latest synaptics touchpad driver from the HP support center, but unfortunately it did not fix the issue. I tried to run the HP diagnostics during bootup for the touchpad and was not able to move the mouse pointer. Although the status of the diagnostics run says cancelled rather than failed.  If someone could suggest some probable solutions, it would be of great help. Thanks in advance. Regards,Srijith

I just installed Windows 7 (32bit) on my Toshiba Satellite L305-S5955 and now the scroll feature for my touchpad will not work! I know it's probably a missing driver that needs to be installed but I do not know which one... I had prev been suggested the Value Added Pkg but that didn't seem to fix the problem at all...

Help please!

A:Installed windows 7 now touchpad scroll won't work!

Try going to the toshiba page for your laptop, click downloads, and change the OS to Vista (or Vista x64). You'll notice if you select "Touchpad" from the list, they do not list Windows 7 at all, only XP and Vista. However, the Synaptics driver package for Vista should work just fine.

Hi,

I recently loaded Windows 7 (64bit) onto my Satellite Pro P300. I downloaded all the drivers for W7 64 bit and everything happily installed, for the most part.

The touchpad, however, is not fully functional. The upgrade page said to use the Vista drivers, and did not provide any drivers for win7. The installation of the Vista drivers did not realy go so well.

Anyhow, the critical piece of functionality missing is that thing where you drag your finger up and down the right edge of the touchpad, and it scrolls for you. I can click and double click and move the cursor around. But I cannot scroll. And it is such a pain having to move the cursor all the way over to the application's scrollbar, with a widescreen.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

If I understand you right you are missing these additional mouse settings. Am I right about that?
Which driver you have installed?
Synaptics driver maybe?

Yes, this is another "my touchpad is dead after W10 Anniversary update" topic, but since i have a E 13 series laptop, i thing i should start a new oneWell, more or less, it's like for the R and S series, i have a ES1-311-P3V7, here's my situation:- Upgraded from 8 to 10 last year- After the update, touchpad didnt work, but as we know, i just had to upgrade my bios to 1.11 and synaptic driver.. So evertything went ok, touchpad was ok EVEN IN ADVANCED MODE (BIOS), SO I COULD USE GESTURES.- Yesterday my acer upgraded itself without telling me anything (thanks for that microsoft, but the way....) and BAM! It all want like last year, touchpad dead. Yes, if in BIOS i set the tochpad in BASIC, it works but common, this is not really a solution.Of course at first i thought Acer already delivered a new driver or bios for this anniversay update so i checked Acer site and nothig, drivers page shows the same 2015 drivers, nothing new...just to be sure, i re-installed everything (BIOS, synaptic driver, I/O drivers...) like last year but nothing...So what now? I heard in other forums guys contacted Acer and the answer is "You have to wait Microsoft to fix it"....common! And plus, it's my understanding that now we have just 10 days to roll back to previus build, after that we won't have the option in settings anymore. I reaaaaly dont want to format and stay in previus W10

We have recently performed a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 on a Toshiba Tecra A10.
The OS has picked up most drivers, we had to install drivers for the card reader ourselves.

Our problem is that the touchpad and buttons do not work at all.
The driver shows in Device Manager as being properly installed, but that's all. I have even installed the Alps Control Panel (Vista x64) which runs okay.
Have tried the "Touch pad and stick are automatically invalidated" settings when using an external USB mouse, all to no avail.

The hardware was working perfectly okay with Windows 7 32 Bit installed.

Is there a fix here?

A:Tecra A10 - Touchpad and buttons do not work on Windows 7 x64

Hello

Maybe it?s just a driver issue? I have checked the available downloads for Tecra A10 on Toshiba page and for Windows 7 32bit there is a newer driver available, for Windows 7 64bit not (no driver). So you must use the Vista 64bit driver?

What you can do is testing the touchpad driver for Tecra A11. There is a newer version for Windows 7 64bit from Alps Electric so the correct one. Touchpad driver is not system related so I?m pretty sure it also works on your model.

Have a look on Toshiba website for Tecra A11 driver:
