No internet access but strong signal and can access via Wifi

Q: No internet access but strong signal and can access via Wifi

I have a Dell Inspiron 700m and have recently developed problems accessing the internet. I have always used a Netgear wireless card RangeMax WPN511. Now I get "limited or not connectivity" when I choose my network but if I choose wifi network I can log on and access the internet..
I have disabled the firewall thinking that it may be the culprit but no luck.
Any suggestions?

Preferred Solution: No internet access but strong signal and can access via Wifi

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a strong WiFi signal, but cannot access any webpages from my Dell desktop (Windows Vista Home edition). Recently installed Norton Internet Security 2009 which seems to have been a complicating factor, but turning off firewall, etc. does not solve problem. After reading on-line support postings on Dell website tried a few different things, but no success, e.g. ran "network diagnostics" - found no issues; opened Internet Explorer with no add-ons - no help; from command prompt, ran "dns flush" - no change in performance. The signal strength from wireless router is "excellent", and iMac in other room connects to internet without any problems. Any suggestions???

Hi! This website is awesome as I followed the details on how to clean the malwares. It did work--- but I still have the same problem.I was wondering if you guys could pls help me with my PC as it won't connect to the internet. My PC is running on Windows XP2 - Has signal, but can't connect to the internet. My Ethernet adapter is ADMtek AN983 10/100 PCI Adapter. My modem is ZyXel P-600 while my switch is an Edimax. My Laptop on Vista - OK - successfully connected to the internet Last week everything was working fine, until my PC suddenly lost it's internet connection. The technician of my ISP came and he set-up a new connection that through WAN Miniport (PPPOE). He changed my router settings' System ModeL from bridging to routing. It was weird because it used to work fine as it is and I could automatically connect to the internet. He told me that this time, I would have to use the Wan Miniport to have internet access. So Ok. The next day when I rebooted my PC, I was back to the same problem of no internet connection, but still having that strong signal. I could access the IP Address and the Diagnostic Test said that my connection was fine. So I guess the problem is really with my PC being infected with malware. I did everything I could. I found some malwares, but after cleaning my system out-- the problem is still there. Initially when I typed ipconfig /displaydns in cmd, it displayed a lot of weird sites, so that's how I knew that I was infected. After runnin... Read more

Hi, my dad's computer had a Vundo Variant malware problem which I got rid of (I think) with Malware Bytes anti malware program, AVG8 and SuperAntiSpyware. I had to upgrade from AVG7 to 8 to get it to work.

the problem is... it is now 3 days later, the scans come up clean, but both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox cannot access the internet connection that is on his computer. actually, no software can access the net. (i.e. tiger gaming, Mozilla thunderbird, etc.) Both mine and my dad's computer are networked via a router to one internet connection. My computer still gets access to the internet easily but his does not.

However, if i send a ping from his computer to an IP it still works as well as when I access one of my shared folders from his computer the data comes up as well. So I do not think it is a problem with the router. I also disconnected the computer from the router and tried a direct access to the modem and still nothing. I've attached the Hijackthis log for you to examine. please, any help would be appreciated. oh, and i forgot to mention, i tried rebooting in safemode with networking support and still no access.

Oh, i renamed the Hijackthis.exe file to robynsleo.exe when i had the Vundo virus so that is what that file is if you see it. I just haven't renamed it back.

We are currently at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, AL. On my laptop I can connect to their G band non-secure WiFi network with an "Excellent" signal strength. However, I get no internet access.

Other devices in our rig connect and get internet access just fine.

I've spent hours with Dell Pro-tech support to no avail. I've spent many days Googling this problem and have discovered that others experience the same issue on public WiFis, but I can find no posted solution.

Dell's last suggestion emailed to me was as follows: "I would suggest clearing the ip stack and flushing the dns. To do that open command prompt on your pc by clicking start and going to search at the bottom and type cmd, the cmd.exe should come up at the top but you have to RIGHTCLICK on cmd.exe and then click run as administrator. Hit yes on the next window and the run box should pop up when you hit that. This should bring up the black command screen. In this window type this in. ipconfig/release then hit enter. That should turn your ip to 0ís. Now in the next line type in ipconfig/flushdns and hit enter. After that type in netsh winsock reset and hit enter. After that exit the command prompt and then reboot your pc and try the connection again."

This did not resolve the problem either.

If anyone has experienced this strange phenomenon and found a solution, I would be forever grateful.

Thank you

I would think about resetting the router if you haven't done so already. After resetting the router go through the wireless settings again, set your SSID, password and also use WPA2 security with AES encryption.

Hi all - you might notice this is my first post here, so patience is appreciated
So here's my story...I have cable internet through Cox, renting a Netgear CG3000D gateway from them. Starting about a month after installation the internet started freezing over wifi. I say freezing because it would just suddenly stop, and the only way to get it to start coming through again is to reset wifi from the device. This happens with every device we use...smartphones, tablets, laptops, wii, and lately it's been at least a dozen times a day. I've spent hours on the phone with Cox, had their techs out to the house three times now, and still no solution. I'll admit that I'm no expert when it comes to this stuff, but I really don't appreciate them charging me $50 a pop to come to my house and ask if I tried resetting the modem, suggesting I just unplug it for a minute, tell me it's working fine after they hold a signal on their phone for 10 seconds...one spent a couple hours knocking around outside before coming back in to say he ran all new cables, drilled holes through my house to move the modem to a better spot, and everything should be fine. It's not.
Anyway...after hours of research online I'm convinced the problem is somewhere in the modem's settings, or just a faulty modem. I've lost hope in getting any help from Cox, so am here hoping that someone with some real knowledge can help me. There are no issues with the wifi signal it... Read more

I need to amplify the signal of wireless internet. I heard about access points, but I don't really know what to look for. Something that will receive a wireless signal, then boost it back out. Any ideas for a cheap/quality way to do this? email is "[email protected]"

A:Weak wifi internet signal. Access points?

access point/router/gateway/switches are all ways to tie multiple computers together to share files/internet.

distance, walls/construcion, upstairs/downstairs, how strong the signal is, how many pc's/laptops, all play a part in how well it works as you're sharing the same bandwidth.

i keep it to about 100 ft or less from the signal to the pc/laptop.

Hello Everybody,

I just got a job at a School district that has an extremly old and basic network setup (No Firewall, only 2 accounts on the server Student and Teacher). They have two small buildings that have 1 wireless router on each floor about in the middle of the hallway.

I am having a strange issue I haven't seen before with a windows 7 laptop that a few of the teachers in the district are having. They can see the wireless router on the network but everytime they try and connect it says "Windows Cannot Connect or is Denied Access". All the other laptops in the building connect fine.

Heres what I have done so far.

-Power cycled the router, nothing.
-ipconfig /release, and renew, nothing.
-Getting closer to the router and connecting, nothing. (Also tried with a differant laptop in the room and it could connect no problem which confused me more)
-Updating the network card.(says it has the latest updates)
-Re-entering the network key, nothing

What I haven't tried is setting up manually a static IP. But do I need to do that? And if so how do I know which IP to give it is there a way I can generate a list of all the IP's on the network?

I appreciate any help, I AM STUMPED!

I have a window's 8 laptop. It is about a year old. A few months ago it just suddenly stopped getting a strong wifi signal in my room. The wireless router is in the other room. I assumed that it was just our router, a belkin, and started using an ethernet cable rather then replace it. However, I am visiting my girlfriend and the router is in her room. I took my laptop to the other room and suddenly I only have one bar of connection and nothing will load, like it does at my house. Even sitting right next to the modem get 3 to 4 bar signal strength. I have no idea what to do. I have ran virus checks and malware checks. Nothing turned up. I tried checking to see if my wireless driver needed to be updated but it says that it's up to date and functioning properly, which clearly it isn't. My wireless driver is qualcomm atheros ar9485 802.11. Please help.

I have a Netgear CG3000D-RG cable modem through Charter, and the connection is absolutely perfect when connected with an ethernet cable, but any device connected with wifi constantly drops out (even in the same room)...sometimes every 10 or 20 minutes, but just as often it will happen over and over constantly. Disconnecting and then reconnecting fixes the connection entirely until the next drop out. It doesn't get slow or anything, it's either on or off.

Any ideas? Maybe a setting I'm not aware of? Or is this a hardware failure? The last thing I want to do is "rock the boat" with Charter because I'm afraid tampering with equipment might make my whole connection unstable again, like I've had so much trouble with in the past.

Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

I use road runner cable internet from time warner. I have a linksys wrt54g wireless router that was purchased many years ago. In our apartment, we have 3 computers. One is a desktop. The other 2 is laptops. One of the laptops we use is in a room very far from my room where the router and desktop computer is located at. The connection for the wireless is pretty bad so you have to go to the living room right next to it to get a better connection.
At first i thought i fixed this problem by upgrading the firmware as i have never did this before ever. I upgraded it to firmware version 4.21.5 for the linksys router. At first it seemed like the signal got better from that room but now its as bad as it was before.
My question is what could be the problem? I put my router on top of my desktop computer so it wouldn't be on the table where so many things could block it. Thus its at the highest point i could put the router in my room.
So i tried something different. Well i then brang my laptop to that room and went on the same site as the other computer and went to load the same streaming videos. My laptop however... the connection was faster than the other laptop in that room which is far away from where the desktop/router is at. Basically you can't even stream a video in that room most of the time but my laptop could.
Does that mean that my router isn't the problem since the wireless signal works fine for my laptop there whereas the inspiron 15r goes much slower... Read more

A:Wifi Signal Not Strong Enough- Router or Laptop Problem?

Someone suggested to take the router out of my room and bring it to the living room so it would be closer to that laptop. I was going to do this but i cannot b/c there is a wire that connects from my cable modem to this other thing. I'm not sure what its called but basically it is connected to these wires on the top in my hallway. Does anyone know what that is called?

Someone suggested i could buy a usb wireless adapter like this

Does that mean plugging this into that computer possibly could make the connection stronger in that room? I'm thinking that the reason has to be because that laptops wireless card isn't strong like mine which is why? But would buying this solve the problem?

Someone said buy another router because my router is very old and to get an N router. Should i do this instead? The thing is i'm thinking its not the router fault as my wireless is fine with my laptop in that room. thoughts on this? And if i should do this, can someone recommend me a wireless router that has good range? There are soo many routers on amazon.com with good/bad reviews and it seems like the good reviews they have, there are tons of bad ones as well.
Someone said my other option would be to buy some wireless extender. I checked amazon but aren't these basically wireless router with an extender?

hi ya

I have a cheapo ADSL wireliess router (54mbps) in the front of my shop and I want to increase the wireless signal I recieve in the office in the back of the shop. The signal is strong but the connection speed drops as low as 20mbps, also I have a desktop with no wifi card in the same room which I need to connect to the network.
My aim is to get the very best connection speeds between the two rooms without cables. I was thinking that if I got a draft N router and access point then the shop front and office would have a very strong connection allowing me to connect multiple machines via ethernet cables in each room and at the same time increasing my wifi signal in the office. This way I wouldnt need to buy another wifi card and would get better signal for my laptop

I dont know if I am completly off track and would better off getting a good router a range booster and installing wifi cards when needed.

if anyone could give me some help with this and also what routers/access points you would reccomend would be great

many thanks

A:Increasing wifi signal using access point

N will give 300mbp (realtime is 240 to 270mbps) of data in / data out
Range is greater than G but just to let you know your range my vary due to interference in your shop.
2.4GHz cordless phones
Some lighting systems
Microwave devices
But the Draft-N clears up some but not much again depends on what's you have in the shop. Place the wireless router higher away from other electronic devices. Wireless access point can be use but if you want to go without wires then you need one that can do WDS. That WDS taps into the wireless signal that you presently is transmitting in your store.

Another issues you have one of those all-in-one modems that have wireless router feature. They tend to be slower than just using ADSL modem and a wireless router combination. Cable Modem from the Cable company is much faster, but you'll have to be able to get cable business customer plan. But in any case what you have reported is normal 54mbps can range from 24, 48, 54mbps. So for you N would do a better jobs.

Scope of Problem:
This is a Desktop LOADING based problem.
NOT a connection dropping, fading while in use problem.
Other Devices work fine.
Same problem with previous Modem.

Wireless icon shows spinning busy symbol.
If it connects fine, then it will Remain fine until the next Restart

If connect fails then yellow exclamation mark shows over TaskBar Icon.
Viewing connection it shows as Limited Access, but signal strength is 5 Bars
A Manual Disconnect, then reConnect will always establish a working connection (sometimes needs two attempts).

Signal Strength is ALWAYS Excellent, No other devices have issues with WiFi.

This is a persistent and long term problem which has "survived" improved Modem placement , ISP directed settings changes, and a new Modem.

[ Other threads all seem to be about No Connection OR Dropping/Fading/Poor Connection. This isn't ].

A:WiFi Limited Access, Signal Strength Excellent, works if I reconnect

Modem was the problem.

Recently the Thomson V8 was replaced with a telco provided Huawei HG630B.
The issue disappeared instantly, there is now just a little lag and then connection.

Hello. I use the main PC with wireless connection via Netgear DGB111G to access the internet, my son uses a second PC with shared wireless connection. Recently, I have started losing connection to the internet even though the router appears to be providing a strong signal. I regularly go into My Network Places, re-type my Wireless Networks WAP-PSK password, then try to connect, again via WAP-PSK password, to the router. Sometimes this works, more recently not so much. Occasionally, the connection will suddenly happen in the midst of other activities. My son seems to be able to connect even when I can not.
My technical knowledge is patchy and untrained(!), but could it be a problem with my ISP or should I be investigating my hardware/software/settings?

This is a long-shot but I'm driven to it through desperation.

Using a wi-fi (usb modem) at 3G (4G not installed on local tower yet).

The device indicates a strong signal as does the iPhone which uses the same network
however speeds are so slow that during the day I can't open a webpage with a single click & it often not possible to send or receive an email.

As there is no alternative I have to grind my teeth but after over a year it's disheartening and I am now cautious about logging into sites which I must log out of (eg bank) because I've been caught unable to log out.

The long-shot question is this:
has anyone a suggestion as to what I might check to ensure that it's not some setting in the laptop which is causing this very slow speed? I've checked the Firewall (ie turned it off and tested speed then compared with it turned on ... no difference)

First time posting but have referred to old threads in the past - thanks to all. I have Windows XP (updated w/ SP2) on a compaq laptop with a Broadcom G-card (updated driver). I have DSL through SBC on a Speedstream 5100b. Finally, tried to hook up a wireless network with a Belkin 54g wireless router - I opted to do this manually and followed the steps carefully. If the laptop is directly plugged into one of the four router ports, I get internet access (through Explorer) with no problem (only when I have the router configured for dynamic connection, interestingly). However, if I unplug it and go wireless, despite an excellent signal I cannot access the internet. Initially set for WPA, but also tried WEP - still unable to browse.
By reading other threads I have some things to try (like maybe just restarting the laptop and hope for the best, disabling encryption, etc.) but is there a more logical approach to this? Thanks in advance!

Okay. I've been surfing around for a while now and found things close to my problem but nothing that is my problem. We have a computer at work, a laptop that has been connecting to the internet fine, as of yesturday, it stopped working. It has excellent signal, says it's connected but when you go to the browser, there's no internet. After searching, we found that we have no IP address. This is our cause for not connecting (hopefully). When we did a repair...it says it's obtaining a new address...and after a couple of hours of waiting, we gave up. Is this normal? To wait for a long time to get a new ip address? If so, then we'll be patient. If not, how do we get a new ip address? Or does the IP address not even matter and it's a whole other problem?

We're running Windows XP and our Router is a Linksys Broadband Router Wireless G 2.4ghs Model WRT54GS.

Thanks for yalls help!!

A:Wireless Laptop: Strong Signal, No Internet, No IP Address...Help

Since all was working fine and you report no changes, First thing to do is power everything down, PC, Router etc. Then bring router back up first, then the PC and everything else. See if you get an IP address then, If not your DHCP may have run out of addresses or just stoppped working, Also make sure that the network cable has not worked it's way loose somewhere.

If that all fails, go into the router settings and see what it's IP address is and set your PC up manually with IP/ Default gateway/ DNS setttings

Good luck

I have Cable internet and a wireless router. I have internet connection on all computers and other devices on network except for desktop computer (uses wireless adapter). I had internet on that machine until recently. I've reset my modem and router, uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless adapter on the desktop with no success. The desktop indicates a wireless connection and strong signal but again, no internet connection.
Here's my ipconfig data:

Hi. First of all, I'm not really good in networking stuff so I don't know many terms but I'll do my best to follow the instruction properly.

Now the problem: I'm using windows xp computer that connect internet with wireless usb adapter Aztech. It used to work properly with internet at home. Then one day, when I brought my pc back and forth from my uni and to my home, it suddenly not working. It said limited connection. I tried to dc and re-connect but it's still not working. So I found out that it is the IP address is the same as the default gateway so I change the gateway to the router address. Now it has strong signal but no internet.

So what should I do to get the internet back?

A:Solved: Strong signal but no internet, pc with wireless usb adapter

Try following this post from Johnwill in the order he suggests.

Some things you can try here, listed in the order you should try them.
For wireless connections, remove all the stored wireless profiles and search for networks. You'll have to enter the encryption key again, which is sometimes the issue for connection problems.
For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues. __________________

Wireless network with two macs and one pc-- all was working great, with wpa2 protection-- but then changed to WEP (because my Olive Musica only uses WEP) and reconfigured the computers. But now only the macs work. The PC connects to the network and sometimes shows a strong signal and sometimes show limited connectivity, but in no case connects to the internet. And when I try to configure the pc it ultimately reverts back to the WPA and when it opens available networks it describes the network i use as a wpa network, even though i reconfigured the whole thing to wep!
If I sound like I know what I'm talking about, alas I do not. But I have tried opening, redoing, reading info, and everything else to get my pc back on board this wireless network.... but nothing seems to work.
What do you think? Thanks for any and all help. best, charlie

I experience huge problem with my internet connection. It started 2 months ago when speed all of a sudden drops to 2-5 mb/s when its suppose to be ~30 mb/s. I called Cable and they sent me technician 3 TIMES and it seemed like I know more than they do hardware related. First time guy swapped modems with the newest that increased my speed by ~7 mb/s but the issue was there on the other day. So I called them again and on the next day speed was fine when he came, checked all of my connections and the signal was great. As soon as he left speed dropped 10 times. So 3rd time technician came and the speed was ~3 mb/s - he checked signal and it was 7 with 9 being highest. The speed went back to normal right in front of him, he swapped modems with the older version of modem. I ruled out the possibility of the problem being a router as I have bad speed when connected directly through modem and also my computer as I reinstalled OS and ran speed test on other computer with same results. I still experience this issue and hope that you might help me. Here is a screenshot with my speedtest results http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/8113/16154317.png

A:wireless internet showing connection and strong signal but no connecction??

If you have encryption enabled, try w/o encryption until you get a successful session.

First determine if the problem PC is really communicating with the router when it claims to be connected.

To open a Command Window: Start - Run – cmd (command in 98SE) - OK

To determine a computer's IP address and router's IP address: open a Command Window and type
ipconfig /all

The "Gateway" is the router's IP address.

Now for some troubleshooting. Following is how to use ping to test for communication with your router, the internet, and the internet with symbolic name.

1. On the PC open a Command window and type
ping IProuter (where IProuter is the IP address of the router)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

IF you got replies,
2. ping (or any other internet address you know)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

If you got replies,
3. ping www.yahoo.com (or any other internet name)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

I have a Sony Vaio VGN FS 660. I'm not that great with computers.

I'm connected to a wireless connection in an apartment where there is one more laptop apart from mine.

The other laptop works fine and I compared all it's properties with my WLAN properties and they are identical but somehow, my internet works for a few mins and then stops working.

Please HELP!!

A:Wireless Connection: Signal Strength Strong but Irregular Internet

I?m actually having some problems with my WLAN as well. But since no one else have answered here yet, I can tell you about two things to check for:

1. wireless phones and similar things should be kept away from your computer and router.

2. I changed channel from the default 6 to 11 and things seemed a little better after that. Make sure that you have a different channel than your neighbors.

I have been trying for some time to accomplish the title result. I'm not techie enough to do it.

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

A:Internet access via WIFI and share WIFI via second router

Due to the age of XP this is not the best option for what you want to do

Either windows 7 or 8.1 have access to Internet connection sharing (ICS) built in

To use ICS you need at least two connections to the local LAN, these can be any mix of wifi or Ethernet.

As you have a laptop you likely already have a system to use for this

There is a tutorial explaining the basics ... and more on this site

Check it out and post back if you have any issues

So I got a new router yesterday to replace the old one, and I've been working on it for a long time. But I can't seem to figure out why there isn't any internet connection. The new WiFi Router (D-Link DR-842) Shows it is connected to the internet (green light) but in the setup page, it says disconnected. Could the PPPoE details be causing this? As far as I know everything is correctly set up except for the internet part.

I use a LINKSYS router model WRT54GS.
I am able to connect directly to my modem, but not wirlessly or wired through my router. The problem is not with my computer because I am able to access the internet through neighbors wireless, but not my own.

Iím able to get association (signal Strength), but I canít access the internet.

A:I’m able to get association (signal Strength), but I can’t access the internet.

Remove all stored wireless profiles on the machine and search for the network and connect.

If that doesn't do it, try it with no encryption on the router and see if you can connect that way. If so, updating the drivers on the laptop may be the answer. Of course, you should also have the latest updates for XP as well.

I have an intermittent problem with one of my PCs on my wireless home network. While I always have excellent signal strength, most of the time I can not connect to the internet. All the other computers on my wireless network work fine and I can always connect to my neighbors wireless network to get internet access with the problem PC(A dell latitude E6410 with windows 7). When I have no internet access on my network and I run some diagnostics it says that my default gateway is not available. Any suggestions on what might be the issue and how to resolve the issue?

A:Excellent wireless signal strenght, but no internet access

Welcome to TSG>
Could be a lot of things.
Did this ever work ?
If so what changed?Hardware/software ?>
May we see:
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
Disable encryption on the router.Any difference ?
May we also see:
Wifi test exe. Hint from Johnwill

Download and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspecto from
on the problem machine. Post a screen shot of the main screen here.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button
to upload it here.

Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

i can connect with a belkin wireless that i have plugged into side of computer but the built in wireless wont give internet access even tho it says connected and has a better signal, please give answers in plain english

A:Built in wireless wont give internet access even tho good signal

Did it work prior to this problem? If yes what did you change in the system? Go into the router administration and it should tell you if the router is connected to the internet. Belkin routers have this feature. Look and see under the DHCP (LAN) section if the wireless PC is being seen. Did you setup:

SSID: deephect
Mode: 802.11(b,g,n) Mix
Wireless Channel: 11 or set it to manually
Passcode? (password)

This above SSID and passcode have to match-up on the wireless device you're using.

On the router if you don't see connected, make sure you do a refresh and not a reset to factory default?

This started right after i upgraded itunes on my laptop, which i never do because nothing good has ever happened from that. So after i tried to upgrade, which said it couldn't complete, i turn off my computer and when i turned it back on it took longer to load and a message came up saying "Error access violation at 0x22173148 (tried to read from 0x00000060) program terminated" i've never seen that before so obviously something's wrong, the internet doesn't connect and when i click on my wireless connection icon it says "another application is controlling wireless adapter". Intelproset wireless says its searching for a connection and sometimes finds the secure one i have but and will say "excellent signal quality" but a few seconds later says "error in connection". So i'm using another computer in my house, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
