Yoga 720 Video playback randomly switches back to desktop picture

Q: Yoga 720 Video playback randomly switches back to desktop picture

While viewing either YouTube or Netflix videos, the screen will randomly switch back to my desktop while the video still is playing. This happens maybe every 10 minutes or so. Trying to get the video back on screen sometimes is difficult or will not work yet the audio and video is still playing in the background. I tried adjusting the sleep timer for the screen, but it didn't help. Any suggestions? Thanks,Steve

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For some reason, when i try to set my default playback device to my speakers, i click on then recheck and the default device has turned back onto the one i dont want.. my usb headset.

I can seem to make it stick for having my Creative Card as the primary default output device, it always switches back to my headset unless i un plug it !

Any ideas?

Also when i try to do the performance thing it comes up with an error 'windows was unable to calculate the windows experience index because the user cancelled the assement'.. i looked in my Windows folder and i seem to have a completely empty Performance folder..

Any ideas on that?

Hi. My keyboard stopped working out of the blue, and whenever I open the laptop it goes into tablet mode. Switching to laptop mode does not fix the keyboard issue. Any help?

A:Lenovo Yoga C930: Laptop switches modes randomly, sometimes thinks it's shut and just goes black!

Problem seems to have fixed itself, but I'm still worried. It's like something is making the laptop confused. Sometimes it doesn't know if it's in tablet mode, laptop mode, or closed. There's been times where the screen just shuts off, and I need to close and open the laptop again to get it to work. In fact, it was this that caused the issue in the first place. Is there anything that might be causing this system confusion?

so i re-imaged my hard drive with a previous image. before i did that, everything worked fine. now that i got a fresh image, things are acting up.

my new image doesnt have any codecs installed so i download k-lite 3.30 full version. i install it and play a video. sound but no video. reboot. same thing. i un-install it and re-install. same thing. i uninstall, download dvix total pack, install and works. reboot and back to sound but no video. download video inspector and notice that im missing some codecs. uninstall divx total pack and reinstall k-lite 3.30 full. check with video inspector a range of video and all come up with the proper codecs installed but i still get sound but no video for both MPC and WMP.

can anyone give me the 411 on what i need to do??

I?ve lost the ability to see the picture when playing videos. The problem occurred after updating to windows service pack 3. I?ve tried uninstalling all my codec?s and re installing them (k-lite mega) also tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers for my video card to no avail,

Its almost as if the files are playing fine just not showing me the picture . for instance if i use winamp to play the files it allows me to manipulate the windows as if there was a video playing and the winamp symbol disappears from the middle of it.

Video inspector confirms that all the codecs are there and theoretically its should play.

A:Service Pack 3 disabled picture in video playback

Try VLC media player

It sounds as though you may need to uninstall your Video Player (winamp ?) And do a fresh install of it, using the latest from the web.

I reinsatlled windows 3-4 times beacause of this issue. this last time I only installed the bare essential drivrs and no other third party software or anything like that at all but still got a BSOD while watching a movie

I filled in my sytem specs in the registration process but just to give you a quick snap shot :

Gday! First of all, thanks for providing a forum like this. Secondly, sorry for anything I don't describe in this post that you'd like to know- just ask me and I'll provide any details. I've included a Direct X Diagnostic .txt, though, which I hope will be useful.)

So, in brief, here's the problem- Video playback simply doesn't work as it should. More often than not, it won't work at all. Though, sometimes, it will. Sorry for the vagueness, but I'll try to give a better summary here:
I have Windows Media Player 10 installed, but I've had the same problem on all other versions I've used- I think they may date back as far as version 6 or 7.

On Windows Media Player, as well as winamp:
*Video files saved on my computer, generally, do NOT play. I'm not entirely sure which formats will play on Windows Media Player, and likewise for WinAmp, but I'm fairly sure that the formats that play on both system correlate.
*I wish I could describe this better, but video files embedded on websites which are opened with Windows Media Player will SOMETIMES stream perfectly, SOMETIMES give audio but no visual whatsoever, and do nothing at all.
*DVDs, however, will play just as they are intended.

On WINDVD 6 (recently uninstalled),
*Almost all file formats of videos would play.
*However, it was uninstalled because it was the crappy demo version that came with the computer, in which you couldn't use ANY functions beyond pause and p... Read more

I've had this computer for about 3 years now, and though it's had more than it's fair share of problems, video playback has always worked. About 2 weeks ago, I noticed Youtube videos wouldn't play, nor would songs on Spotify. Netflix won't play, videos saved on my computer won't play, and videos won't load on other websites either. I haven't done anything different, so I have abosolutely no idea what could have caused it or how to fix it. Not sure if this is related, but a few days ago my built in microphone stopped working too, and all the steps I took to fix that were ineffective. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I am having problems with video files (mp4) stopping for a couple seconds at a time randomly during playback. I shot these video files using a HD android phone then added dragons & creatures in SonyVegas then rendered them into the same HD avc format under a new name, and all mp4 files seem to have the same problem, they pause for two seconds at seemingly random spots during playback. I have klite mega codec pack + open in Media Player Classic Home Cinema. I googled the problem but didn't find anything, nobody with similar issues, nothing

A:video files on computer randomly stopping during playback

IME...the only time that I encounter delay/stoppage in a video I have made...is probably attributable to the coding done the first time.  I don't try to figure that out, I just run them through the final coding process again and the glitches go away.  I'd take the troublesome files and recode them as the final format again...and see if the problems go away.

Try the Latest Klite Mega Pak, rather than 4.

I have noticed this issue for quite a while. While watching videos on YouTube, their is a slight stutter is certain parts. The audio is fine, and if I go back its not there anymore. The videos download fine as well. I am on Windows 7 and I am using the most up to date version of chrome. The quality is 1080p 60fps. which my computer doesn't seem to have an issue handling. One thing I thought might be related is when I am downloading video, while checking the network traffic, my PC also sends data to google servers. Could this be affecting it? Thank you for your time and any help you can provide

Hi, I recently purchased my new yoga laptop (Yoga 530-14ARR)  with AMD ryzen 5 2500U processor in it. I used it regularly for about 2 weeks, but notice some problem with it several days ago. Whenever I watch x265/HEVC videos with hardware encoding (I use MPC-HC), the video always freeze exactly at 45mins mark. Everything works fine for x264 or other type of encoding and I don't want to use software encoding because it won't cut it because of the quality of the video and it ends up choppy. After trying to search it online, I found some discussion on reddit about some people have the exact same problems with ryzen and several of them conclude that the problem lies within the driver, because when they update the driver to version 18 (they are on driver version 17 when they have the problem) the problem's gone. Unfortunately, AMD does not provide driver for ryzen 5 2500U directly. I can only get the driver through lenovo's site and it looks like how they label the version is different too. I did update all my driver yesterday with the new driver that came out at Sept. 26, but the video problem still exist. Is there anything more that I can do?

At random times throughout the day, it seems my windows will try to alt-tab back to the desktop.

E.G. I have a full screen application running. Suddenly i find myself staring at my desktop without pressing alt-tab. Or if i have my browser window up, i will be staring at my browser window instead.

Seems to happen every few hours, doesnt matter what kind of applications i have running...it even happens when i have NO full screen applications running...if i only have my browser open, what happens is that i will notice the browser window gets unselected (open your browser window, click on the windows taskbar, browser gets unselected, just like that).

Its really very annoying. There are no pop ups or anything, and i am fairly sure i do not have anything installed that could be doing this....scanned for adware and virus using spybot search and destroy, malware anti-bytes and ESET smart security 5, nothing....restarting PC does nothing...

I built a PC in August and it runs very fast and plays games, videos and audio without issue. However, I have been getting occasional BSODs during youtube playback or when playing a video from my hard drive, even if i played the same video moments earlier without issue. I have updated all drivers windows updates, memtest to check ram but nothing seems to explain my PCs sudden desire to BSOD me.

I would be very very grateful if someone would have a look at some min-dumps for me and see if they can identify the issue as i have reached the limit of my computer diagnostic knowledge.

A:Intermitent BSOD during internet video playback or avi playback (Win7 Pro 64)

How many Passes did you allow for Memtest? I read your five most recent dumps and the were all of the same error as described below...

Your error is 0x124: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR and is described as "A fatal hardware error has occurred."

This error code and definition has replaced the older XP code 0x9C: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION and though it is older the definition still is applicable: This is a hardware issue: an unrecoverable hardware error has occurred. The parameters have different meanings depending on what type of CPU you have but, while diagnostic, rarely lead to a clear solution. Most commonly it results from overheating, from failed hardware (RAM, CPU, hardware bus, power supply, etc.), or from pushing hardware beyond its capabilities (e.g., overclocking a CPU).

Honestly, this is a very difficult error to work with because as it says a clear diagnosis rarely comes forth and I have never seen a minidump with either error codes give a definitive answer. I know IT techs that don't like working with it. What makes it so difficult is that it can be any hardware in your system -- and I mean any. Your dumps simply cited hardware as the issue and nothing more definitive.

Here are some of the causes that were determined to be the source of 0x124/0x9C errors from posters here and abroad: NIC, DVD/CD drives, dust build up around the CPU that caused overheating of said CPU, bulging capacitors hidden by heatsink, corrupted memory, video card, psu, mo... Read more

skype is linked to microsoft account. (skype had my old picture)

other option is that someone logged into my outlook and chaged profile picture then it got synced...

I cannot find any information on why or how picture would revert. ( even more so on a specific date )

any ideas or leads ?

Hello newbiew, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since you Microsoft account is synced by default, then it most likely automatically changed back after syncing.

If you wanted to have the same user account picture for all devices, then changing it for everything should help.

If you only wanted to change it on this PC, then you could turn off syncing for Appearance under "Personalization settings" using the tutorial below.

Hello. I have some audio issues that are causing distortion whenever I watch videos on youtube or watch streams on twitch. I updated my flash and that didn't change anything. These issues just started within the last 3 days. I tried a system restore from two weeks ago and that didn't work. I double checked my sound drivers and they are up to date. This happens in both Firefox and Google Chrome. I started Firefox in safe mode with all addons disabled and it still happened. The distortion didn't really capture very well on the video even though I can hear it. You can hear it better in the beginning. And this happens on videos that are buffered, even if I wait 5 minutes, this still occurs. I can try a different video once I get back from school(have to leave right now) if you want to hear the distortion better.

Hi, I hope I'm posting in the correct place..
I've just upgraded my comp and I now have:
Bought in the upgrade bundle:
Abit nf7
512 DDR
barton xp 2500+
cpu heatsink + fan
Already had:
gforce ti4600
case with 350W power supply
40 gig and 16 gig hardrive
dvd drive
cdrw drive
floppy disk

The problem I have is that my computer sometimes shuts down randomly and goes into, i think, standby mode....or maybe it's power saving mode. Only way i can turn it back on is to unplug it and wait for a bit.
At first I thought it only happened when I used cpu intensive programs. Championship Manager 4 uses 100% cpu usage all the time, and after a few minutes my pc shuts down.

Recently it had been doing it even when I wasn't doing anything on my pc, and resulted in some files being corrupted and having to reinstall winxp.
Any help appreciated.

Hello my problem is to me a bit of a headache! I recently purchased a LeadTek 8800GT 512mm due to a certain game that likes to melt PC's! Anyways heres the story;

I installed the 8800GT and almost immeditaly it would power off within in minutes, sometimes not getting past boot. I relieased my 400w PSU wasent going to cut it, so I bought a 600w PSU which is way past the recomended for a single GT. Again same issue, to be safe I totally uninstalled the drivers and updated to the lastest (169.09) and for about half hour it was fine. Went to setup my TV link and zooom, switched off. Same problem as before. Alittle bemused I unhooked all non-essentials and booted up, again same problem.

After examining the PC for about 45 angry minutes I noticed the pins that connect my SATA 160 where bent (i must of damaged it when moving it to slot the GFX in), so I did my best and refitted the cable, slotted everything back in, re-seated the GFX card and laid my PC on its side. 2 hours later and I'm smooth sailing, TV working (though not quite right) Loaded up Guitar Hero 3 on my PC, midway through Fire & Flames....zooom switched off again!

Now for the life of me I cannot understand whats happening - I have more then enough power, I've updated all my drivers, I replaced the PSU, check my RAM using memtest which shows its fine. My flatmate suggested that because the pins where damaged slightly on my main drive (the 160 contains XP) that it could be cutting out, but im n... Read more

Hi,
My Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 laptop switches off at completely random times. I've given it for service 3 times and the frustating part is during their testing, it works completely fine so the repair guy can't figure out the problem.
After it switches off, it doesn't boot for a while and just gives black screen and a bunch off beeps. ( 7 of them at intervals)

I did a diagnostic and got a CPU fan error 2000-0511 Validation 130122.

Please let me know what is this issue and how to solve this.
Regards,
Mandar.

A:Laptop switches off randomly

Sounds like the CPU fan is not working -- leading to overheating and shutdown.  Start by replacing the fan:
<<www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=14456>>(the fan is different depending on whether the system has Intel or AMD video).
If that doesn't solve the problem, the mainboard is the next possible suspect.

Whenever I'm playing high performance games my laptop switches itself off.

All the signs point to overheating, but I think it's something else. Firstly, I can switch my laptop off immediately after this happens with no obvious ill effects. My laptop actually has overheated before and I couldn't switch it on for a good 30 minutes afterwards.

Secondly, the switching off seems to happen somewhat randomly. On Saturday, my laptop switched itself off at least 5 times, however the next day, I played Team Fortress 2 for 3 hours straight without any problems, and my laptop was a fair bit hotter during the 3 hour session than it ever was during the LAN Party. Today it's switching off even more frequently, I can't even get 30 minutes of gaming in without this happening. Outside of high performance games, my laptop is perfectly fine.

Welcome to TSF.

I would look into other possibilities of the random restarts. It doesn't look like a malware related issue. Have you ran a memory check yet? Google for memtest and use that tool to run a memory test.

There are probably malware that may cause this kind of issue, but I'm leaning more towards a hardware related issue. Try posting in the hardware board for more help.

Hi guys. Would appreciate some help with this problem I've been having. First off, I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6Ghz, a 2-year old Powercolor Ati Radeon HD4870, an 8-year old Philips 107T CRT monitor, 4GB RAM, 600W power supply. I'm using a VGA-DVI adaptor to connect the monitor to the 4870 DVI port. Now, what's been happening is that sometimes my monitor would go off randomly. Can't reproduce the problem if I try.

Another problem which I'm not sure if it's related is that sometimes when I boot up the computer, 8 beeps are heard, and nothing displays on the monitor. I'm able to get it to display by switching off and on the system, sometimes a few times. I just re-installed Windows, got the latest updates for the graphics drivers, and I thought everything would be fine. But my monitor froze when I was surfing, and when I reset the system, the problem happened again.

Could someone kindly suggest whether it's a power supply problem, or is my card failing? Thanks in advance.

Hi,Attempt to perform a hard reset to remove all the excess static using: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768after this step, i  recommend checking the wall outlet, the light on the charger port (ensure it isn't blinking), attempt to boot to bios using F10 while the pc is restarted, if the issue persists, contact HP on 1800-474-6836 in order to get a repair setup as you could be looking at a motherboard failure.

I have dsl service through ATT. When I tried to access ESPN360 about a week ago, I could not log in to ESPN360. In trying to resolve the problem with ESPN & ATT tech support, I learned that my IP had been switched to one starting with 99 instead of 76. I was able to reset my computer to a 76 IP. Now I am seeing my IP address being randomly reset to 99.x.x.x. Besides being annoying, is this a problem and how do I stop it?

Hello,

Boot the PC into the BIOS and post the temp and voltage readings.

Install HWMonitor and post a screenshot of the program at idle and while under load.

System shutdowns can usually be attributed to heat or power problems.

We are running on a Windows Vista Ultimate (pretty old) we got it in 2007, I think.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz 2.39 GHz
Ram: 4.00 GB
32-bit OS
(not sure if any of that helps but just in case)

We hardly ever shut our computer down, just turn the monitor off. Often times, when I turn the monitor back on, there are pop up ads (sometimes explicit and I have children!) and sometimes there will be an audio ad running but no visual.

We use Firefox for online access and 9 times out of 10, the website we type in is not where Firefox takes us.

The computer is running super slow as well.

Any help is much appreciated!

Many thanks!
Barbara

The card is inserted in the second PCI Express x1 slot:

The absolutely annoying problem is that the card stops working randomly. The usual relay switch sound can be heard (the click) and then only a restart can turn it on:

Quote:
The clicks are not directly related to the power supply; they come from the relays that are used to disconnect the card from its outputs jacks to prevent pops in the speakers when powering on the computer. (There are also relays for switching to the front panel and for switching between the line-in and mic-in functions, but they sound of those is probably masked by your mouse's clicking.)

I tested the card on another machine, where it was working just fine, but when I moved it back to my machine 15 seconds after I played online radio it switched off

The computer is not even under heavy load, so it doesn't matter if I play heavy games or just browse the internet.

The floppy cable is properly connected and the power supply is more than powerful to feed it.

The weirdest part is that this same card worked just fine for like a full year and during that time no hardware changes have been made. It just started switching off like 2 weeks ago for no apparent reason.

I have rolled back to 8.1 several times whereby I have no problem at all until I reinstalled 10.

I never had this problem before while I was using Windows 8.1

Other than switching off from the mains, does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi all

This isnt an ongoing problem but since ive bought my computer at launch, every month or so, it will randomly switch off, and wont switch back on until ive unplugged the power supply for a couple of minutes then plugged it back in, then it will switch back on and work fine.

Is my power supply failing me? or is it being overloaded or is it another problem

A:Computer Sometimes Switches Off Randomly, Power Supply?

Chances are it is your power supply if it is turning itself off like that, try using a different kettle lead. If that doesn't work, I would replace the power supply unit, it shouldn't be that expensive. Are you getting any error codes before or after the system failure?

EDIT: Saying that, I have seen problems like this before simply from to much dust build up inside the system, causing it to overheat and shut itself down.

This is the same laptop that was causing problems way back in October 2003 (http://forums.techguy.org/t175403.html). To summarize briefly, I got it working again by removing one of the two RAM chips which was kaput and later installing another. Recently, however, the same machine has begun misbehaving again -- it switches off randomly. This is not hibernation or standby; the only way to get it going is the reboot.

After searching the interweb for a solution, I figured the closest answer was probably overheating: the fan did seem to be on a lot of the time. We purchased a cooling pad which certainly put paid to any heat issues -- and made life a lot quieter -- but the laptop is still randomly shutting off.

It doesn't seem to be linked to memory load -- it will fail while it is just idling -- and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to the problem: it will go days without going belly up and then fail twice in 30 mintes.

It has a firewall, anti-spyware and is anti-virus protected so I'm pretty sure this is not mal-ware related. All the relevant Windoze XP updates have been done. I even increased the size of the partition to make sure it wasn't a pagefile problem.

My next likely candidate is faulty RAM: either the chip that survived 2003's accident has finally begun to lose it, or the replacement chip is on the slide.

Is this likely? Or does anyone else have any ideas?

I have a HP 6735s laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

I generally have either the 'HP Optimized' or a 'Custom Plan' selected as my power option. However, for reasons unknown, the power option on the laptop changes to 'High Performance' randomly.

Some points to note:
- This happens if laptop is plugged in or on battery
- This happens if laptop is on stable or unstable surface
- This happens if i'm watching a film or if i'm running nothing at all
- I've ensured my drivers are up-to-date
- This happens across more than one user profile
- This also happens if just starting up the laptop or if it's been on for a while

...and the odd point:
- This occurs in what appears to be a sequence, i.e. the laptop will be on my chosen plan for a period of time then it will change to High Performance, after say 10 seconds it switches back to my chosen plan for 5 seconds then again back to high performance. This repeats three times but will then not happen again for 20-30 minutes where the same sequence repeats.

I've read that it may be an issue with internal wires getting caught up, however if this was the case, i wouldn't have thought the sequence would occur as described above.

If anyone knows why this is happening PLEASE let me know as it's driving me mad!

Many thanks in advance,
Matt

Today while typing in notepad, the keyboard suddenly switched from Dvorak keyboard layout to Qwerty. Yesterday Opera did it. Before Opera did it, Open Office did it. When I close the offending program Dvorak is restored.

I am NOT using the language bar and do not have qwerty set as a default layout, Only dvorak.

Is anybody else having this problem and/or know how to prevent it?

A:win 7 64bit RC randomly switches from Dvorak to Qwerty

Try using ctrl-shift. If that causes your keyboard to switch that might be your culprit, not capricious randomness.

I use Qwerty and Dvorak key layouts and this switches between them. Tried to configure with the Regionalization control panel and that doesn't seem to remap this keystroke. It's definitely inconvenient for spreadsheet users.

Y720 GPU switches randomly iGPU for split second and causes frame rate drop.More exactly since yesterday I was experiencing frame drops in one particular game it was late at night and I tought its windows 10 at it whit updates and stuff.Today I investigated and it turns out that my gtx 1060 core usage drops to 20%ish and iGpu spikes up from ~15 to 60, 70% as if the main gpu crashes and and everything falls on the iGpu.I downgraded from latest intel drivers and geforce to the ones from lenovo but.....to no avail but I noticed every game has an improvement in FPS with 5-10 fps.Everything is set to maxim performance, laptop is plugged in.While using the laptop with an external display there are no fps drops, iGPU stays at 0% usage and performance in games is improved again. Also I dont have DSR factors option in nvidia controll panel( this is supported by pascal laptops)I tried reinstalling buth drivers with DDU.All I did was to install avg tuneup utilities and debugging some slow windows startup before noticing the frame rate drop.Theres nothing else happenieverythg the frame drop, ram cpu disk temp  voltage everything stays constant altough gpu power usage fluctuates from 75W to 60w, but constantly.Tried overclocking undervolting...nothing.
