Q: Solved: Processor speed takes a dive while playing games, etc.

Just recently I started to have a problem where my processor speed would drop from its usual standpoint (1.9GHz) to this (600MHz). I can't play any games with it all the way down there and I have no clue what is causing it. I have never had this problem before and the only significant changes I have made recently would be a change to Spyware Doctor Antivirus as my main Anti Spyware/Etc program.

Preferred Solution: Solved: Processor speed takes a dive while playing games, etc.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got a huge problem. First of all, i got Windows xp. I got a 2500+ barton amd. 1024 ddr ram. geforce fx 5600.

When i play a game the computer reboots after like 5-25 min. at first i used a geforce 4 asus 128 ram, however it had the same problem.

i've downloaded all updates for windows, and it still dosent work. It shows a quick bluescreen before it boots (only like half a sec or so). It's impossible to read what it says.

somebody gotta be able to help me out, it drives me insane. I even formated my computer and installed a older version of windows xp. I haven't had luck to find anything about this problem on www.microsoft.com or nvidia.com

(i read about some computeres freezing inside the game, however mine just reboots)

pleeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaasee somebody help me out!

A:HELP!. My computer is rebooting when playing games (takes 10 min or so)

first thing you need to do is stop the computer from rebboting that way you will be able to read the details of what is causing the problem when it bluescreens.

start/control panel/system/advanced/startup and recovery/settings under "system failure" uncheck the third box "automatically restart"

the next time it crashes it will remain on the bluescreen and you will be able to read and copy what windows is telling you is causing the problem.

Last few days my broadband has been slow. I've had a couple of trojans and worms put into quarantine, using ewido, thinking that was the cause but it made no difference.

I've done a speed test and my download speed is 178 Kbps and upload speed is 242Kbps. My broadband is supposed to be 512. I don't understand a lot about these figures but other than the trojans and worms, I can't think what's made my broadband speed so slow its an effort to download one page sometimes! A 5mb file download takes as long as dial up.

Hi folks,
I'm having some fun and games with my processor at the moment, as it has decided it no longer wants to run at its full speed.
The CPU I have is an Athlon 1800+. I understand this runs at just over 1.5 gig. However, when I start the PC, it is showing up on the boot-up screen as 1150MHz.
Now, I'm no great shakes when it comes to techy stuff, so I've no idea why this is happening.
I recently upgraded my mobo and CPU, and had them professionally installed. When the fella put them in, everything was running dandy and the CPU was showing up its correct speed on start up. It just seems to have been in the last couple of days that its decided to slow down. Can any of you kind folk help me out with a way to get my system back up to speed??
I'm running Windows 98, with 320 MB of RAM

When I play a game like firefall, my frame rate periodically drops to unplayable levels. When it's not in this state, everything runs perfectly. Every min or so, it'll take a nose dive and stay that way for a few mins. I happens when i play tf2 also, but waaaaay less frequently. Maybe every 10 mins or so. Could it be some sort of conflict? I close my web browser as I found out that with that closed, tf2 runs as smooth as a woman's backside.

A:Framerate takes a nose dive!

It could possibly be an overheating problem. When my 9800GTX++ was having this issue, I took off the heatsink and cleaned off the thermal paste, and replaced it with Arctic Silver thermal paste. After that, I had no issues and was actually able to overclock the card without issue.

Before trying this^^ I would try downloading the latest drivers for you card on NVIDIA.com and then, during the installation, select Custom Install, and then tick the "perform a clean installation" checkbox. This will completely remove all profiles, drivers, and software preferences before installing the new drivers.

Also, be sure to DISABLE VSYNC from the video options menu of your game. It may be causing these periodic framerate drops.

WinRT tables and other PC metro apps are still actually run partially by Win32. That's the reason Microsoft wants to cover the desktop. Think about it, all computers are run by processes held on the computer, so no matter how hard they try, Desktop will be inevitable. Windows may end up on a blank wallpaper in a metro app in almost 4 years but they have to live with it. Processes cannot stay hidden, comment your feedback!

A:Kill it! Win32 takes a dive for death.

I think you have a serious misunderstanding of how operating systems work, and in particular how Windows works.

Win32 is not the native OS for a computer running Windows. The native OS is now called the "Windows Kernel Services" but was originally called NTOS, and it's what's known as a "micro-kernel" or "supervisor". This native OS runs subsystems, one of which is Win32, although there have existed several others, including an OS/2 subsystem, an Unix subsystem, a Posix Subsystem (they are different) and of course now Metro.

It's certainly true that there are interactions between Win32 and Metro. But i'm not sure why you insis that Metro apps are run partially by Win32? What's "partial"? Can you back any of this up?

I have a dual monitor setup and I try to keep my downloads running on one of my monitors (with bit torrent or just regular downloads) while I try to play a game, even an offline game, and my download speed will immediately drop to say 20 or 30kbps where it was downloading at least 200kbps not a second before I was running the game. If I minimize the game I can watch the download speed dramatically return to normal 200kbps, putting the game back on top of course drops it back down. What the heck is going on? How do I fix this? I've already tried reformatting. Thanks in advance for your help.

Regarding the speed, will the device work only slowly or not at all?

A:Solved: Video capture device speed vs. processor speed

It is not a matter of slow or not at all. It is most likely a matter of dropped frames. If you have a cheaper video capture card [one without hardware decoding] it will probably work however you will not like the result.

Video editing / encoding is cpu intensive. I would hate to think how long it would take to encode the video file after you capture it [with that cpu]

To give you some idea, it takes me about 15 min to encode approx 1hr of video with an intel dual core cpu. With yours it will be hours.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to help me out with this problem.

A few days ago my internet started really acting up. Not the connection to the router, the speed would slow dramatically at random points and then come back up to normal speed.

I could deal with this except for the fact that I run youtube.com/grimandjakegames, a gaming YouTube channel. This problem has made me unable to play any online games without the internet connection failing. It will run fine for a while but then all of the sudden it just stops and then I'm disconnected from the server.

I've contacted my ISP but they don't seem to know anything and just had me reset my modem which did nothing.

The reason I am so confused is because nothing changed from when the internet was working fine to when it wasn't. This lead me to believe it was the ISP's problem but maybe some of you could help.

If you need any more info just reply below and I will try to help you out as best I can.

Just noticed today something that seems odd to me. While I had PC Wizard open to look at temps, I noticed the CPU frequency is running at 798 MHz while it's speced at 1900 MHz... I also noticed the CPU frequency is the same as the FSB HT Link frequency (whatever that is).

Anybody got a clue about that? I've never even looked into overclocking (underclocking ? ) and have not changed anything in BIOS relative to the processor. This is on my Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop machine with and AMD Turion 64 X 2 processor running XP Home.

A:Solved: Processor Speed

This is completely normal .

Modern CPUs (especially mobile ones - like yours) will lower their clocks to preserve energy and emit less heat while they just sit idle or when under low load.

If you launch a heavy program then the clocks will speed up until they reach full speed.

Try launching a heavy application, ALT+TAB and check your clocks again.

Hi folks, good day to all
This comp is equiped with 200mgh Pentium R chip with MMX, 64mb ram, 2.5gig hd, 98se. When this comp came to me the clock speed was set to 60, and the multiplier was set to 2 which = a processor speed of 120(I`m new to this so if I am wrong please correct me), I have no idea why this was set this way. I have pulled the Pentium chip, and it is MMX. I thought this was a waste of speed since the chip was a 200mgh, so I proceded to increase the clock to 66, and the multiplier to 3, which = 200 or so right. Well when I go into bios the processor speed is still 120mgh, and should be 200 if I am correct. Is there something I need to do more than I have to achieve 200mgh? Thanks for your time, and any info.

My opinion is that probably the processor in the laptops might be causing the slow down.

It is possible to upgrade certain components of a laptop. However, with those specs, it should run smoothly. I presently am using a Core 2 Duo 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, and everything seems fast.

Are you running games on batteries. Many laptops deliberately lower their clock speeds when using a battery so it can save power. Make sure its plugged in.

If your feeling rich, try adding more RAM, you dont really need the upgrade, but more ram never hurt anyone

Hello, I have a question. My Lenovo Yoga 720 15.6" doesn't overheat, although I've noticed something rather odd. When I play Fifa 17 with the charger plugged in, the fans are very loud and the laptop gets pretty hot. When I play Fifa 17 on battery only (charger not plugged in) the fans are quite silent and the laptop doesn't get hot at all. Why is that? For all I know, I would expect the exact opposite...Thanks in advance!Kind regards,Tijs

A:Lenovo Yoga 720 15" : hot when playing games on charger, cool when playing games on battery???

The CPU runs at full speed when it is plugged in and runs more slowly on battery to save power.  Faster = more heat.

There are still processors that run at, or over 3 ghz. The difference being that you have multiple cores now, as opposed to a single core from years ago.

Hi all,

I am running XP Home SP2 on an AMD 64 3200+ processor with all current updates installed. On the System Properties page the speed is only reporting as anything between 2.01 on the general user, and 1.81 or 1.00 GHz on the audio user, although it is not consistent. The power settings on both users are set to Always On, although there are other schemes saved. I switched both to Always On after reading that power schemes may be choking the processor speed off. It doesn't seem to make any difference, though. I changed the Computer interface in Device Manager to ACPI PC from Uniprocessor PC on advice from Creative (I'm running an SB Live), which gave me the 2.01 speed on the general user but not, annoyingly, on the Audio user. And the system RAM is only reporting 768MB with 1GB installed. As far as I can see, settings for both users are the same. I am running Background services and System Cache as priority. I have Cacheman installed but settings for both users are the same. AVG up to date and no nasties other than tracking cookies reported from recent scans by AVG Anti-Spyware or Search and Destroy.

What's going on?!

Thanks for any help, particularly from audio machine users.

Hi, I have a AMD Sempron 3200+ which was running at 2ghz, but now according to the system properties in the control panel is now 565Mhz??

My machine is running slower than normal and is having issues when playing back audio/visual, slow video normal speed audio. The task manager shows the cpu usage to shoot to 100%. I need to order a new desktop for my office to replace a 3 year old machine that runs at 3.2 Ghz. The new machines that Dell offers only has this option:

Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX6700 (8MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1066 FSB)

I don't think there is a standard measuring stick that is used to compare all the processor speeds that I can find or understand. I work with CAD programs that use up a lot of resources and I typically get the fastest available and max the RAM. With all the latest software that I have to install, I need the new machines to run faster than the ones they replace.

Can anyone tell me how this 2.66GHz processor compares to my current machine? I don't have the exact specs for it, this is what it lists on the dell support site for my system - PROCESSOR, 80532K, 3.2GHZ, 1M, 533, M0.

I am going to be buying a new computer in the near future and was wondering if backups, file copying, and defragging will speed up very much?

It seems like that at some point, the drives would not be able to keep up with the processor and faster processors would not be needed for many or even most applications.

I am using a 1 ghz Pentium 3 computer now and am going to get a new 3 ghz computer next.

Also, recently, I read an article about the new dual core Intel chips and that sounds like something that I would like but do not know if they are out yet, and if so, do not know what they are called.

A:Processor speed vs hard drive speed

The main point of having a faster processor is that it runs games smoother, compresses audio and video faster, and so on. These tasks are not particularly dependent on hard disk performance. Nearly all applications will benefit from a faster processor regardless of the speed of the hard disk.

First of all, this is my first post so apologies if I miss anything out.

The problem is my PC seems to randomly crash when playing games. It has been doing it for years but seems to have got worse recently after installing Win 7 (32 bit).

The screen instantly goes blank, the sound freezes and it just stays like that. When it reboots it attempts, and fails, to find a solution, and the only way I can get it to boot up again is by using last known configuration on bootup.

It appears to happen much less often if I turn the resolution right down to the minimum on some games, but I really shouldn't have to do that, I have:

AMD Athlon 7750 dual core 2.7g
Windows 7 32bit
ATI Radeon HD4800

I have a feeling it could be to do with the graphics card but hoping it's something more simple!

Any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

OS - Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
Original OS installed on system - Windows 7 Home Premium
OS - Full Retail Version
Laptop age - 4/5 Years
I formatted by Laptop some months ago to clean it up like I always do.
CPU - Intel Core2 Duo P8700, 2,53GHz
Video Card - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650(Updated Driver)

Its a cleaned Laptop, I had a heating problem on the past but then I had a professional totally clean it up and apply a new Thermal Paste to it and it worked like a charm, I still use a cooler :D, I don't fill my PC up and I stay with it pretty clean on pograms and such, not a heating problem.

The last BSOD happened playing Crossfire(Europe) today, I never had a BSOD playing it and then it happened at random, it isn't the only game I get a BSOD, also happened to Garrys Mod some days ago, I have a crashdump of the BSOD(from Crossfire) but I don't know how to upload it because it says I don't have permission.. heres the rest, please help! ahah

ALSO sometimes isn't the BSOD that appears, the screen just goes into colored lines across the screen and freezed with the sound looping but that only happened once when I was playing Garrys Mod

EDIT: I got a screenshot of BlueScreenView on the game "Crossfire" minidump and there it is :D

A:[SOLVED] PC crashes playing games

There are no crash dumps in your output folder.

If your computer is not generating .DMP files, please do the following:

1. Start > type %systemroot% which should show the Windows folder, click on it. Once inside that folder, ensure there is a Minidump folder created. If not, CTRL-SHIFT-N to make a New Folder and name it Minidump.

2. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Ensure there's a check-mark for 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives'.

3. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > System Failure > ensure there is a check mark next to 'Write an event to the system log'.

Ensure Small Memory Dump is selected and ensure the path is %systemroot%\Minidump.

4. Double check that the WERS is ENABLED:

Start > Search > type services.msc > Under the name tab, find Windows Error Reporting Service > If the status of the service is not Started then right click it and select Start. Also ensure that under Startup Type it is set to Automatic rather than Manual. You can do this by right clicking it, selecting properties, and under General selecting startup type to 'Automatic', and then click Apply.

If you cannot get into normal mode to do any of this, please do this via Safe Mode.

I am trying to debug and figure out why I only get the BSOD when playing games. Naturally, I updated graphics cards, motherboard drivers, bios, sound, etc. I've reduced my error message down to just ONE driver that is causing the BSOD's, which is the ntoskrnl.exe.

I've attached the required documents and I am listing my system specs below, I hope that you have enough information to make some sense of this issue. I am in school for Computer Science, so please do explain how and why you got your answers as it would benefit me greatly.
- Windows 7 ? 64 bit ?
What was original inst - Full retail purchase of OS?
Less than 1 year
Only 1 install of the OS

- intel i5 3750k
? AMD Radeon HD 7870
RAM: 16 GB Corsair(4x4GB Sticks) **I'm thinking this could be issue**
? Gigabyte z77MX-D3H ? Power Supply-Forgot, bought from best buy, 75 watt I believe

A:[SOLVED] BSOD f4 while playing games

All of the attached DMP files are of the CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION (f4) bug check.

This indicates that a process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.

If we look further into the dump as I also said above, we see EXCEPTION_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000006 - The instruction at 0x%p referenced memory at 0x%p. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error.

What's an I/O error you may ask? An I/O error is when any hardware device (hard disk, flash drive, etc) cannot perform its basic input/output actions such as reading or copying data. When this is the case with a hard disk itself, or any storage related media, it's due to the device PHYSICALLY failing. Do note that with hard disks, the connections can be faulty as well (i.e the SATA cables from the controller on the board to the hard disk itself).

Very rarely do software complications such as a driver causing memory corruption cause this bugcheck, however it does happen.

-- Also, just a note for your own knowledge related purposes! When ntoskrnl, or any variation of the NT Kernel/System driver is listed as the fault of a crash, it's simply because Windows doesn't actually know what caused the crash.

Kernel code 99.9% of the time in debugging is not responsible for a crash. If you see a process like nt, tcpip.sys, and/or any other Windows code being labeled as the fault, it's almost always a wrong diagnosis, or it's accurate in that Windo... Read more

I built my pc a couple of months ago and was a big dissapointment from the beginning. I bought this pc to be able to play high quality games but whenever i do, it eventually crashes causing a weird image on my screen either; completely orange, grey with black stripes, black screen or pink. It sometimes also causes a "buzzing" sound whenever this happens. Sometimes when i'm talking to friends on skype i can still talk to them after the crash. I can't control my computer whatsoever but i can still communicate to my friends through skype. The only way to be able to use my pc again is to turn it on and off by the power switch. At first i thought it was overheating so i got 4 new fans. My pc never gets hotter than 55 degrees while playing the high quality games. Overheating was not the problem. Then i thought it was my power supply because it was extremely cheap and came with the case. Now i have one of the best power supplies voted by the community. Turns out that was not the problem either. All drivers i can find is up to date and i don't know where to go from here.

My specs are
Motherboard: ASRock Z77M mATX
HDD: 500GB Western Digital Caviar blue, SATA 600 16MB, 7200RPM
Processor: Intel Core i5 3570K 3,4 Ghz
RAM: Corsair 8GB CL 10 1600MHz VENGEANCE
Graphics card: Gigabyte HD7850 2GB
Power Supply: Seasonic X-Series 850W 80 plus gold

Okay Hi!
So I'm a real hardcore gamer I guess, but recently (and this has been happening more frequently) I have been lagging a lot. (When I say recently I mean like 3 months+)
Anyway, specifically on the game League of Legends my lag reaches a point where I'm unable to move or input any commands and I get delayed a lot to the point where I just ALT+F4 myself out of frustration.
It's not fps related lag, it's latency related I believe, because sometimes I disconnect completely and realize my internet has dropped. Every time I lag actually it's related to my internet ... Read more

Hi, whenever I play Counter Strike Source (a game) on my Windows 7 64-Bit Computer, it sometimes hangs, and I eventually get a BSOD. I can't find an error report, but I did all the steps you asked for a BSOD report, and I included the dumps from 3 BSOD.

If you need anything else, please tell me, and thanks in advance!

If it helps, it gives the message "A Process or thread crucial to to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated" and lists no .sys file.

It also gives these codes:
