No Volume/Speaker in taskbar

Q: No Volume/Speaker in taskbar

Toshiba Satellite 1805-S253, Win ME.

Recently tried to install an 802.11g PC card, lots of issues, and had to have a local shop uninstall, fix registry, and repair video drivers and stuff.

I don't want to go back to them, but I now have no sound other than the modem will deliver the dialtone sound. Media Player is silent. No Speaker icon in the taskbar.
No way to click "show volume control in taskbar": I can see it, but it is inactive.

Specs say ALI M1535, and Trident AK4543 Codec.
Device Manager says there is an ALI WMD driver.

Looked all over for an easy driver download.... aargh.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I recently discovered a difference in the volume; the left speaker of the laptop has been functioning normally while there seems to be very low to no sound coming from the right speaker.

Any suggestions?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 5559 Audio - Right Speaker has low volume while the left speaker functions normally

Hello. You didn't mention the headphone jack, so if you have not yet done so, plug in headphones and see if the balance is okay in them. If the headphones check out okay, then most probably it's a problem related to the speakers.
The test for speakers is the ePSA audio test. It is a hardware test, which means that if the test  tones are very low in the right speaker, but normal in the left speaker, then there is hardware failure somewhere, related to the right speaker.
If both speakers sound normal during the test, then the problem is in the software. Do the usual things like re-install the audio driver, check the balance levels in the Sound properties, try different audio sources, etc.
Re-installing the audio driver resets the settings to their default configurations, so if you do it then you don't have to bother with things like volumes and balance settings, because they will be okay.(Also if the balance is okay through headphones, then it should be okay through the speakers too.)
Here is how to do a simple driver re-install:
1.    Open the Device Manager.2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device a... Read more

Hey all, my girlfriend is running Win 7 Home... she has always had the default Windows speaker "volume" icon down on her task bar by her clock. She uses it all the time to switch between her speakers and her headset, where she right clicks on the icon and selects "playback devices" and then changes between her soundcard/speakers and her usb headset.

Anyway, it disappeared last night.

Now open Taskbar, click on the "customize" link, get the window to select which icons appear... on the speaker "volume" icon under behaviors, it is set to "show icon and notifications"...

HOWEVER.

Then at the bottom click the link for "turn system icons on or off" and on that window, the icon is greyed out and set to OFF and it can not be changed to ON.

She's been bugging the heck out of me ever since to fix it.

We have no idea what changed it, or how it got changed.... we just know its been there and she's used it, for the past two years, and now its suddenly not there.

Any suggestions?

Hello everyone,
I have recently noticed that my speaker volume is going up and down by itself. It happens when i'm listening to music, playing games, everything. I have a kt3 ultra mobo, with onboard Avance AC'97 audio 5.1 surround sound speakers. I've played around with my audio options when i noticed the problem and can't figure out what is going on. Please give me some advice.

Thanks

A:Speaker volume goes up and down

Any batteries involved in your audio loop? Replace.

Any volume controls on your keyboard? Try disabling keyboard audio control.

Any Windows utilities running that control audio? Running in the System Tray, and check Task Manager. Close any extra audio-related apps.

Otherwise, it could just be your speakers, or sound card amp, going out.

Hi: The latest W10 update messed up the audio in almost every one of my HP business desktops and notebook PC's. I had to reinstall the audio drivers to get everything to work right. Two of my PC's do not have W10 audio driver support. For my HP 350 business notebook, I had to reinstall the W8.1 IDT audio driver, which restored normalcy. For my HP dc7800 business desktop, I had to reinstall the W7 Soundmax audio driver, which restored normalcy. Your notebook does not have W10 audio drivers either. So, here are two recommendations for drivers I have... First, create a system restore point in case these drivers make a bad situation worse, and then you can revert to your current status. Then reinstall the W8.1 audio driver from your notebook's support page and restart the PC This package contains the driver that enables the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59654.exe If that doesn't fix the problem, try this IDT audio driver from a newer model notebook (15t-j100) that has the Beats Audio. Install and restart the PC. This package contains the driver that enables the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. 6.10.6491.0 Rev.     Sep 30, 2013 http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe

Hi everyone,

I have only recently upgraded to Vista from XP, I'm very pleased with everything apart from this sound problem, which from what I've read is very common. I was hoping to watch movies on my new widescreen monitor, but the sound is just not loud enough with all settings on max.

The problem I'm having is that my speaker volume is very low, I'm using fairly old speakers, but these speakers were very loud on my old computer running XP.

Anyway I've installed the latest Realtek driver & it has made no difference what so ever. Every setting is set to max volume, does anyone know how I can boost the volume? Or maybe someone else has had this problem & found a solution, I'm wondering if new speakers will make any difference?

The only sure-fire solution I think of so far is installing XP, which would mean losing Vista, as I've not got a disc with it on, the computer came with it loaded already.

Please help! :|

hey there. recently my sound was working fine until i installed this sigmatel driver update from gateway's web site. after installing that it made my sound icon get the damn red x icon and it didnt work. i then read on here about the realtek and tried that but nothing. it seems though that i have to now do the setup again for the original sigmatel driver under the cabs folder (64 bit system) and then it goes back to green and the sound works. i don't restart it though i just click no on that. i don't know if that will help depending on your system i suppose.

I'm not sure what measures you've taken in trying to natively adjust the sound (like in this video: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Adjust-the-sound-level-on-your-computer). I find that more times than not, you can usually right click the sound icon and select "open sound mixer" and adjust the sound to your liking from there.

I have a computer running some crappy speakers, and for some reason I can barely hear anything from them. I read other posts that talked about not having amplified speakers, and that I should just get amplified ones and be done with it. The only thing that gives me pause is that when I shut down for the night, and you get the windows "shut down" sound, it is really loud. So I tried them on another new computer of mine, and they worked fine. I have obviously checked all the volume settings and they are all on and turned up all the way. Any ideas why this might be happening.

Thanks in advance.

If you go into the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel and then select the Sounds tab can you play some of the other system sounds at a fairly loud level?

If so, exactly when do you get lower volume levels? Does this happen with certain programs?

Can you give us the details of what you have checked so far? We have no way of know what you mean by, "all".

Some details about the sound controller hardware being used as well as what operating system you are running may help us to help you. Do you have a separate sound card or is sound built-into the motherboard?

Ok, dig, I am a Mac guy and I had to get a Windows laptop for work. So please understand I don't know anything.

First easy question : I have a Braven Balance B/T speaker, when I connected it (Which took like 15 minutes ??) it gets labeled as a headset. It's a speaker!

Then the volume is very low, I can turn up Pandora, the main system volume and I still believe it's low. Also, I do not have the Properties > Levels > Enhancements like I have read about. Under Levels I get Balance, that's it.

Can someone who is patient help me thru this starting point and maybe we can go further. I can provide screen shots of anything necessary.

Thanks so much.

I got a new Vista pc and everything is mostly set up. I have onboard sound. All the speakers work, except one barely emits any sound. No distortion, just barely audible. i noticed this when I tested the speakers individually. My guess is the wiring. The speaker in question is one of the rear ones. I turned the rears up but no change.
Anyone?

I have Klipsch ProMedia 4.1, got around 4 years ago.

They worked fine in my old XP machine, but while turning the volume knob, there was a staticy sound. There was major static in the new machine for the first 2 days, then it died down and the speakers were normal, except for that one rear.

A:One speaker=low volume in 4.1 setup...???

One thing I learned long ago is don't mess with the volume nob that is on the speakers. Crank it up to about 3/4 and leave it there, using nothing but software to adjust the volume from there on out.

That "static" sound you hear is usually dust that gets on the contacts inside that volume knob. It can cause low volume in one or more speakers, or it can cause a speaker to stop putting out sound at all. I've tossed out at least 4 sets of speakers because of overuse of that unnecessary infernal knob on the speakers. If you set it to the max you could ever want, and leave it there, using only software to adjust, it won't wear out or have static problems.

The fact that you have those static noises when you use the knob, combined with the low volume in one speaker tells me the two issues are cause by the same thing. A worn out, dirty (inside, where the contacts are) knob.

I am trying to set volume (or mute/unmute) for a wireless Bluetooth speaker in an executable file that I could set as a scheduled task so that my wireless speaker will be silent until such time as the task is run. I have a stock market analyzer running at all times but I only want to hear alerts after 4am, so I really only want my wireless speaker to have volume after 4 am. Now I’m no tech guy so let me explain what I have tried so far and maybe someone could suggest something else to try.

I have tried using executable mixer or volume programs such as Mute, Wizmo, NirCmd, QuickMix, eeePC Wave Control App, etc. Then setting them to run via Scheduled Task. This works fine for the mixers relating to all of my other sound cards but will not work on the Bluetooth mixer.

The mixer associated with the wireless speaker only changes the volume in the “Wave” fader. The “Speaker” volume or “Mute all” have no effect on the wireless speaker. And conversely all of the above executable volume programs only have access to the “Speaker” channel. (they can access other channels for other soundcard mixers but not the Wireless mixer)

Now this is pure speculation on my part, but I think the fact that the wireless speaker itself has a wireless volume control is what blocks other programs from having access to the “Wave” channel. The speaker has a USB dongle that connects it to the comp... Read more

Our tech person doesn't have time to deal with this "personal" issue. Could there be something in the sound card or some other hardware issue that just doesn't allow louder volume? I'm no expert on how computers run, so maybe there is something I'm overlooking.

Is the master volume or any of the other volumes set low? Checking threw
Start -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices
In there are a few different volume settings that might be set to low. In the volume tab If you click the Advanced button under the Device volume it brings up a few different audio options, inculding master volume. I'm not sure if you checked that yet if not, I hope that helps. I've just purchased an HP laptop (G62-415NR) with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). Naturally, there is very little documentation included, for either the computer or the operating system. I'm new to Windows 7. (I've set my system specs in my profile, in case further info is needed.)

I don't know whether this would fall under customizing the laptop or the operating system; I plan to also find an HP forum in case this is not the appropriate venue for this question.

The issue is that I cannot set Internet Explorer to fullscreen using the F11 key, because pressing F11 causes the volume control to pop up instead. Worse, when I use the View menu to set the browser to fullscreen, I cannot F11 it back.

Does Windows 7 map the F11 key to the volume control, or is this an HP-specific setting? If this is a Windows 7 setting, how can I change the keypress that launches the volume control, so that I can get back to the browser functionality I'm used to?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

The problem occurs when I want to edit my dictation and I want to play back my words. It seems there is a speaker buried deep in the computer. The volume on that speaker is so low as to be almost useless.

I would like either to adjust that volume or direct the audio through my normal speakers.

Your guidance will certainly be appreciated.

A:Volume on internal speaker

This probably should be in the hardware forum, but here goes.

I am guessing you do not have the speakers plugged in if you are not hearing anything through them. When you plug in the speakers it will usually stop using the internal speaker. You want to plug your speakers into a like colored port on the back of the PC coming out of your sound card. It will have lots of tiny holes in it like you would plug a headset into. If it is not the same color then it will probably show you an arrow pointing out from the center.

My ideas of what to try will be:

1) Connect a different kind of speakers (normal ones, not USB) to the M700 machine and check if the sound is fine.
2) Connect the AIO LCD to another machine, a laptop or any PC (that is not the M700) and see how it sounds.

With that two things you have been doing some "trial and error" to see if the problem is the M700.

3) Try to check how the AIO 22" LCDs USB Audio gets recognized by Windows. Play with the sound settings on Windows just to be sure that the "USB Audio" is the default one.  Also you can check the drivers of USB Audio device to see if that may be the source of the problem.

I hope this can give you some hints.

Regards

Quote:

1. Right-click on the Taskbar (the bar at the bottom of the screen) and choose Properties.

2. Under the ?Taskbar? tab, look for the button that says ?Customize? and click it (this is to customize the notification area).

3. In the new window, look for ?Volume? under the list of icons. Out to the right, click the drop-down menu and choose ?Show icon and notifications?.

4. Click OK to close that window, then OK again to close the Properties window.

Hi, I have a pair of old Yamaha speakers and an SB Live Value sound card and I'm running XP. The speakers have a volume control and a headphone jack on them. Up until recently they were working fine but then my children were playing around on the PC and now neither the volume control on the speaker nor the headphone jack works (if I plug in the headphones the sound continues to be played through the speakers).

I've searched through the archives but haven't spotted anyone who has had a similar problem and since I've been banging my head against the wall for a couple of weeks I'd really appreciate some help.

If I read your post correctly, you are still getting sound from the speakers, right? It kind of sounds like the speaker controls and the headphone jack have been damaged somehow. Do you have another set of speakers you can test with or another PC to try these speakers on?

Hi,

First of all let me say that I really appreciate the fact that there are people out there willing to do this. I've spent hours trying to fix this problem this morning and am in desperate need of a solution that I haven't thought of trying.

My Computer specs:
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium , 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 3838 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9500M (GF 9400MG + GF 9200MGS), 256 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 290205 MB, Free - 152242 MB;
Motherboard: Dell Inc., 0K183D, A07, .25L78K1.CN4864398T0532.

It's a laptop with integrated speakers. Randomly, the speakers stopped working. I've done the following:
- Run 32 bit diagnostics - everything is okay and the speakers work when used by that.
- Toggled the mute and the volume controls - still no sound.
- Checked to see if the sound card works by using headphones - the headphones work.
- Unchecked the box that allows programs to reduce sound in the speakers when in use.

Interestingly, if I bring up the volume mixer window from the system tray, I now get two tabs. One is for headphone volume and one is for speaker volume. There is no sound from the speakers, but if I repeatedly click on the headphone volume adjuster (which I did out of frustration once), it freezes and shuts down Volume Mixer, which temporarily allows me to hear sound.

I also recieved a Skype call while trying to fix ... Read more

Just did a system restore to try to get Windows back to the settings before my sound disappeared. The system restore completed but the sound is still missing.

Still looking for advice....
