RJ11 to RJ45 adapter to connect wgt624v3 to the internet

Q: RJ11 to RJ45 adapter to connect wgt624v3 to the internet

Hi

Bit of a problem here and wanted to see if anyone could tell me if the following is possible and will work.
I have a wgt624v3 Netgear 108 Mbps wireless firewall router and wish to connect it to the internet, and then use the wireless signal to connect the other pc's to the net, my problem is that I have tried to use a RJ11 and connect it to the back of the router in the RJ45 port that is marked internet, but it won't pick up the internet connection, I have searched other sites that say it is possible for a RJ11 to work in a RJ45 port but it's not working for me, so I found a RJ11 to RJ45 adapter and was hoping that if i use this and convert the RJ11 cable connection to the RJ45 connector and then plug this into the back of the router this would give me an internet connection, would this work?

Thanks for the help

I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds to me like you might be trying to teach a router to function as an ADSL modem. That won't work

What's the other end of the RJ11 phone cable plugged into? That Netgear device is probably not an ADSL modem, hence the "ethernet" (RJ45) plug on its back, as opposed to a phone (RJ11) jack. It would need an ADSL modem upstream of it do actually handle the phone stuff.

Then again, I've never owned one of those devices and I could be dead wrong.

no, that will not work as it is only a 'wire connector' and not a signal converter.

here's how; do not put anything into the RJ11 slot on the ADSL WiFi router.

connect an ethernet cable from a LAN slot on the router connected to the phone line
TO another lan slot on the WiFi router. This will cause the WiFi router to act very much
link a switch. Just be sure the DHCP service (on this device) is disabled and only the primary router has DHCP active.

You will still need to setup the WiFi configuration (but do so ONLY with a wired connection to it).

Hi guys,
Is is possible to get a cable RJ11 ( laptop 56k modem socket ) to RJ45 ( ISDN ) ???

If so where??
Can a 56k modem directly connect to an ISDN line ( obviously this is not an "ISDN" connection so the benefits of 64k and 128k are not going to be possible but, is the above feasible??

Hi,
Do you think that would work or we have any such convertors?
From my wireless connection I ppoe cable instead of phone cable, so the end is an RJ45 connector, my router input for wireless is RJ11, so if i convert that RJ45 to RJ11 and connect to the router.. that should be able to project the wireless connection right??

I can't find any RJ45 TO RJ11 convertors??

Thoughts

Cheers

A:Convert RJ45 to RJ11

think that won't work .. don't know.. the internet transmitter is wireless. so I have an antenna sitting on the window, connecteed to a none wireless router which got special inputs to receive and convert the radio signal to normal internet signal. Therefore I have a ppoe network cable that comes out which I connect to my computer as a RJ45
But I want to connect that network cable to a wireless router which has an input of RJ11 (PHONE JACK) input for internet. So i need I convertor to convert the RJ45 TO RJ11.

If I do that, the router will generate its own IP address and so there will be a conflict between both routers as both will try to generate an ip address, so if i put the second router which is a Thomson TG585 to have static ip address and convert the router to a repeater, it should be able to project that internet connection signal as wireless??

Who thinks thats possible??

cheers

All,

I live in a house that has a pre-wired network (model homes have a bunch of upgrades).

All of the telephone, network, and TV lines come into one closet, where the patch panels take in the outside lines and split them up.

I am looking to finally get my network up and working, but I have hit a snag.

I am trying to get my DSL modem to be shared by the network.

The telephone line patch panel has one output line remaining, and it is an RJ45. But the DSL modem only has a RJ11 input, which is industry standard.

From the modem, I can patch it into the distribution network.

The problem is that stupid RJ45 set up and the modem.

Most of the searches I have found really do not answer this question, so I come to you experts to hopefully lead me in the right direction.

Thanks!

is there any more conectors othere than rj11 and rj45. becuz the kinds we bought fit really tightly into the slot. and the lil clip mechanism dose not even have to be pushed to take it out i can just pull it

A:is there any more conectors othere than rj11 and rj45

Yes, there are other kinds on RJ connectors other than RJ-11 and RJ-45.

A tight fit is not unknown. You didn't say the more important thing, does it work once the connector is pushed in, maybe with more force than normal?

If so, your problem is more than likely one of manufacturing tolerances more than the wrong connector. Connectors can be made just a wee bit over sized or undersized depending on the machine settings or dies that make them.

If it works, inspect the connector. If the amount of plastic seems a bit fat, you can trim it by laying a piece of fine sandpaper flat on the table. Rub the connector over it to remove a bit of the material, pulling usually works better than pushing. Normally you do this on the sides first. Be very careful not to position it to remove any of the metal of the wiring part. Usually you are trying to remove material on the outside surfaces, this will allow it to fit better.

Use care and short strokes and inspect after each stroke. Test the fit frequently. Don't have to remove much to improve the fit.

Hi,

May I access Internet?

A:Internet with USB Female to Male Ethernet RJ45 Connector Adapter

Its depend your airtel dongle speed, but I will suggest if you plug in directly to USB port, because LAN port will be another barrier which also affecting your airtel dongle speed, it not good idea, because if your LAN port having some issue it will
wasting your time to do TS.
I think this device very useful if you using it to connect a USB ADSL modem to a router with an RJ45 socket, not for the female USB. Yes, it can add more USB port option in your PC, but I prefer to use other USB port extension with many usb port
rather than this device
But that's my point of view, its still depend on you

I have never run into this before.

I have a dsl modem/gateway (actiontec) which i use to connect to the internet

when I connected a Linksys WRT54G v.4 router to my laptop thru RJ45, WITH wifi disabled on the router, I lose connectivity to the internet on the wifi connection.

I'm used to XP with independent connectoids. Looking at the properties on each connection, they appear to be correct.

Has anyone run into this on Vista?

I thought surely by disco'g the wifi on the Linksys Router it should just be a standard wired connection.

both routers are setup for DHCP. Is that what's confusing Vista?

weird. appreciate any help. I am so out of troubleshooting ideas.

Hello, this problem has really confuzzled me. I have just bought a new wireless USB adapter, ran it through the setup entered the password etc. Fine. Nicely connects to the router everytime (well ok most the time). But it cant seem to find the internet, which i know is there because my house mate has no problems with it. I've read quite a few complaints about this adapter. Is it worth just returning it and trying a different one? Or does anyone have any ideas?

It finds the submask, ip address, sets a channel automatically. One thing i noticed though is it doesnt create a gateway. (i asume cos i cant find the net). I did have internet before but they were wired. I've since then disabled the normal ethernet adapter and disabled the old connections. So i dont think theres anything conflicting.

Please help?!!
Thank you in advance i really appreciate it.

A:Belkin Wireless adapter - can connect to the adapter, but not the internet!!!

I'm going to guess that the IP address that it finds is 169.254.x.x and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0, right? It's really NOT connecting to the router, which is why you don't have a Default Gateway or DNS servers.

You don't have to disable the wired interface to connect wirelessly, there's no conflict.

I'd suggest you first disable the encryption and see if it connects. If it does, then you need to make sure you enter matching passwords for the encryption on each end. Note that for WEP you should ONLY use the HEX password, do not use the passcode option.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

The name of your ISP and country of residence.
Make/model of the broadband modem. If dial-up, please specify.
Make/model of the router (if any).
Connection type, wired, wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.)
Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built).
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2.

Hi All,  I am new to this community. I have had an Acer Asire V5-571P for a year or so now and am frustrated by the internet connection port. The laptop came with an adaptor which has a VGA and a Cat5 connector. This has worked fine for most of the time I have had the laptop, but recently it started to work intemittently, so I bought a new one - an acer product, and that too has failed, leaving me just with WiFi. WiFi is fine, but by no means as good as wired. Are Acer providing replacements free of charge for these failed adapters. To be honest its a really very poor design - there is too much weight onthe cable and I suspect that this has caused the internal widers to break. This shoudl have been a rigid piece of kit and not as it is designed. Not at all happy with this feature on the laptop.Any thoughts/advice before I go direct to Acer on this issue?CheersPer

I'm looking into buying the new Carbon X1 2017 as soon as it comes out. I tend to need an ethernet connection often and want handling with ethernet cables as effortless as possible .   On my current laptop (Dell XPS 15, Win10Pro64) I use an ethernet-USB3 adapter. Honestly, these adapters are crap and constantly annoy me. Mine seems to re-install it's driver (or at least somehow initiate thru the system) every time I plug the adapter in. About 60% of the time the system looses the IP configuration and I have to re-type the IP address. Also the system gets confused occasionally when I connecte/disconnect the adpater and tells me that my IP is already in use. I suspect this happens because the adapter is embedded in the system via software, not hardware. I really hope this is much, much better with the X1, as it comes with a designated connector for this... still, I need a dongle to connect an RJ45 cable which is a good source of error. Maybe someone who is actually using the OneLink+ to RJ45 adapter can give me a bit of insight, what happens in the system with this connector.Does the ethernet port actually disappear from the system, when there is no OneLink+ to RJ45 adapter connected? Do I need to re-configure the settings every time the adapter is plugged in?I think it would be great if the ethernet connection just sits there in the system and keeps it's configuration neatly, also if the RJ45 adapter is not connected. Can anyone explain ?Thank you... I am thinking of buying an X1 Yoga, but am a bit concerned about the lack of ethernet port. I am looking for feedback on the OneLink+ to RJ45 adapter - Lenovo part #4X90K06975. This is the adapter with just the ethernet port - no other ports. I have found some feedback on the docking station, and the adapter with more ports.., but I am interested in the ethernet-only adapter. Does it work well? I've read about a variety of issues with the other adapter and the docking station. one thing that concerns me a bit about the adapter is that the OneLink "plug" looks like it sticks out a lot from the side of the laptop - is it the kind of thing that can easily get dislodged, or broken.., or worse yet.., damage the port in the laptop? This laptop will occasionally be used in a bumpy environment. I see that i also have the option of a USB-Ethernet adapter, but I would rather leave my USB ports free for other devices - connectig to instruments is one of the main jobs for this laptop. Additionally, I assume that the USB-ethernet adapter will need a driver, and i am worried about driver conflicts with the drivers for the instruments. Presumably, the OneLink to RJ45 adapter does not need a driver - is that corect? Thanks for any help

Notebook: HP Pavilion zv5434rs PC series, refurbished
Operating software: XP, ? pro or home
Problem: Can't connect to Internet via broadband
RJ45 Adapter: Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC #2

I have always gotten the message "Network cable not connected" when I've tried to connect this notebook to my existing DSL connection, even when using the network cable that is now connecting my PC to the net to post this message (so, the cable works). I contacted HP's online chat service yesterday about it and received some good help. Unfortunately, it didn't work. One of the things they gave me was an updated driver for the Realtek adapter (above). If that didn't work I was to reset the TCP/IP settings by typing "etsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" in the open field. Before getting offline to try these things, I confirmed with the tech that I was connecting the notebook correctly by inserting the RJ45 plug in the above adapter and the RJ11adapter into the phone jack. He said yes, and I should also check the cable and adapter, too. Well, neither the driver nor the reset worked; I knew the cable was okay but I got new RJ45 and RJ11 plugs. Those did not work, either. While poking around, though, I've noticed in Device Manager that the adapter properties are not picking up the new driver. I installed it correctly last night, and this morning went in and redid it all manually; it all went well, and I rebooted, and the device propert... Read more

A:Getting notebook RJ45 adapter to recognize driver/cable

Just a follow-up, in case anyone else has the problem. Finally did get through to HP, and they had me download an updated BIOS and then reinstall the drivers with the Application Recovery Disk. It did not help. HP kind of ran out of ideas, and I decided to use the OS disk to repair the Windows XP that came on the system. Unfortunately, this is a refurbished notebook, and I assumed the seller (Radio Shack) had cleaned it up first. Apparently not; it asked for the administrative password before it would repair the OS. Of course, I didn't have it. The folks at Radio Shack couldn't help me, either.

So I bought a new Dell notebook. :-(

But I suspect, if the problem was the BIOS, that the OS probably got corrupted and likely repairing it, or at worst, reinstalling it would have solved the problem. If that didn't work, I was going to upgrade to XP Professional.

Hi all,
I guess I am kind of desperate at 1:45 am haha...
I just got my XPS 13 9350 and it is awesome. I ordered the DA200 USB-C to USB3/RJ45/VGA/HDMI adpater. Unfortunately I am experiencing a few problems with the device. They are listed below:
1) plugging in, computer does not recognize the device. If I right-click and uninstall in Device Manager and do a "scan for new hardware", it works again - but not for long.
2) The device and the Realtek gigabit portion connect and reconnect every second in device manager and that is annoying.
3) Disabling the wireless card/connection seems to actually help the device connect and it works at 100%. ONLY when the wireless card is disconnected.

Basically, windows is having a real hard time keeping this adapter connected...almost like it can't recognize it. I tried installing the device drivers for the adapter - nothing. I updated all the thunderbolt firmware from Dell (including chipset) and the BIOS...nothing. Same thing. If you do a google search, there are a few threads on this exact problem. There is a nice sized one on Reddit.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on? It is a real shame a beautifully designed and pricey adapter is not working with a Dell computer.

Thanks, AJ

I have 2 PCs in different rooms. I was wondering if connecting PC1 to a router then the RJ45 then back to the modem as well as PC 2 directly to the RJ45 would work... or if there is another solution I need. (See image)

Aside from the fact this would make cabling easier, my roommate needs to constantly reset the router (laptop keeps loosing connection for some reason) and I don't want my net to suddenly go down while the router is being reset, thus bypassing the router on PC 2.

So a few years ago, my sister moved away and left me her desktop computer for gaming and stuff. It's an Acer Aspire, and it was pretty old when she gave it to me, so it's super old now, but it still works and operates on Windows XP. I then brought it to university when I moved away this past summer, where I hooked it up with the school's wireless internet and used it successfully for the better part of a semester. One day, the wireless connection suddenly stopped working altogether, so I tried a few different fixes but found that the software for my adapter was ridiculously unprofessional (full of typos, etc). I gave up on it and decided that it was probably just a cheap adapter that stopped working, so when I went home for Christmas I got a new one (D-Link DWA-130).

I came back and installed the drivers, plugged in the adapter, set everything up. The Found New Hardware Wizard kept popping up insisting that the adapter was an Ethernet Controller and that I didn't have the software for it, but I kind of just ignored that. When it was all ready, I tried to set up my wireless connection to the school network through the D-Link connection manager, only to find that it was the exact same program my other adapter used and wouldn't let me put in my login credentials. Hi, this is a problem that has been bothering me for months.(about 10, as we've been too lazy to do anything about it) We own 2 PCs and one laptop. The main PC has a router connected to it, which sends out signals to the other PC and the laptop. Both the main PC(because it's bigger ) and the laptop get internet access just fine. However, for closing on like 8 or 9 months now the other PC in my room will not connect to the internet, although the adapter says it's connected to the router, it never brings up the message that it's connected to the internet. I've turned off windows firewall and such, but I'm starting to get to the point where I've just messed around with too many settings and would like some more expert help.

Because multiple users use this PC, I do not know the specific cause of the problem, but there was a windows update that I think was installed around the time of the loss of connection.

I also do not believe there is any connection at all, as the netgear activity chart is at about 1% if that helps, although the computer says it is connected to the main router. And yes this is a wireless connection that is having the problem. Windows XP 2000.

I have also restored the Internet Explorer 7 Default settings, and tried a copy of Firefox aswell. Niether of them can display the webpage.

Hi all,

I got a problem with my newly installed win 7 64 bit.

When I tried to connect it wirelessly to the internet (using the wireless USB adapter --> Zonet ZEW2546), it cannot detect any single network available, even though the router is just one floor below the PC.

But, when I tried to plug the USB adapter to the other PC, which runs on Win XP, on the same floor as mine, the adapter works perfectly, and I could surf the web from the Win XP.

What do you think the problem is? Hardware or driver?

Btw, I have specifically looked for the newest driver for the USB adapter (which also supports win 7 64-bit) and installed it to the new system, but still to of no avail.

pretty much deals with wireless or connection with a PC. You can even call me if that would help. (970)903-2713

Hi

I have a Netgear 108 Mbps Super Wireless ADSL router (DG834GT) which is directly connected to my 1st desktop. Just bought another PC and trying to connect using the Netgear WG111T Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter. Both computers are running Windows XP Pro SP2. The 2nd PC can detect the wireless network, plus a few others from neighbouring houses. However, cannot seem to connect to my home network at all. Security options have been disabled as I firstly just want to get it working. Incidentally, I can connect to one of my neighbours access points but notwithstanding, cannot bring up any web pages.

Please advise!

Thanks in advance.

I have exactly the same problem with my wireless adapter. I have surfed around on the net looking for answers and solutions, but none appear to work. I fear it may be a problem with the WG111T device itself. What other options are there?
any advice welcome

I have a Dell Studio 1537 running on Windows Vista

I'm not much of a Technical Savvy, so forgive my inability to explain my the issue better. Anyway, my computer stopped being able to connect to the internet a few days ago and a "Dell Wireless WLAN Controller closed and stopped working" (or something along those lines) box would keep on popping up. I did some reading around on the internet and decided that maybe I needed to update the "drivers" for it so I went to the Dell website and downloaded the most recent version for my Dell Wireless 1510 WLAN mini card...

that didn't seem to help any after I installed it. So I went ahead and uninstalled it (I assume I must have uninstalled something I shouldn't have) and now I'm stuck at the same problem. I can't connect to the internet!

In Network Connections, it continually says that "Windows cannot find any networks". In Device Manager, under Network Adapters, it doesn't list the card there, although it lists "Broadcom Netlink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet". And from some suggestions I found on the net, I tried ipconfig/all in the comand promt and it says "media disconnected"..WHAT THE HELL?!?!

Can somebody help me out here????

First...try at least one other browser.

If second browser encounters same/similar connectivity issues...I would suspect malware.  But I would check some data before concluding that malware is an issue.

ok here it goes. I have a hp tx2000 laptop using vista with a alfa awuso36h usb adapter to connect to the internet. Ok heres the problem i was using this setup to connect to my neighbores wireless internet with no problems for about 2 weeks(yes they know and are fine with me using it). But within the past week (actually all of a sudden it wont work) my program that came with the adapter shows alot of networks with full signals but when i connect to any of them it shows connected but wont actually bring up the internet. When i click on i.e. It says i.e. Cannot display the webpage. And if it actually does take me to google it will disconnect for no reason and reconnect to a random network thats available. my neighbors connection i was using just all of a sudden quit working and if i try to connect to it , it says cannot connect to frontier87. Also the other networks that show up sometimes will say the settings saved on this computer for this network dont match the requirements of the network, but sometimes the same network will connect but wont actually bring up the internet. I guess i just want to know what has changed to make me not be able to use a network that worked fine for me last week. Please help.

A:My computer won't connect to internet. No network adapter?

Hello Srsasquatch and welcome to TenForums

You can view the device in Device Manager and it will show up with a yellow exclamation mark if it needs a driver installed. Right click on the start button and select Device Manager. Then scroll down to the Network adapter and right click on the adapter to update the driver. You may need to download a driver from the ASUS website if windows can't find one automatically.

Alright to start off, before the incident:
-Network connection and internet working fine last night, shut down computer and left it off till I got back from work today.
-Perhaps sometime during the course of the day we experienced a power outage (perhaps related)
-Got back from work turned on computer no network connectivity

The run down of our home network has 3 desktop computers connected to a router -> cable modem as well as a wireless signal to the laptop. My computer (one of the desktops) is the one without the connectivity while the other computers have full connectivity. I've spent a few hours doing different solutions but I cannot pinpoint the exact problem.

Here's what I've done so far:
-Turn power off for router
-Switched around network cables (I plugged my cable into a different computer and full connectivity)
-Turn off cable modem
-Switched around cables to router
-Connected directly to cable modem
-Reset TCP/IP
-Renewed IP
-Ran and windows network repair and diagnose
-Tried a system restore but that failed

Under device manager my Network Adapter has WAN Miniport yellow flagged.

And here's a list of the network diagnostic:

Think I would investigate a bit further the error indicator on the network adapter.Display it,look at all the tabs and the content there.

Hi

My Belkin wireless usb network adapter isn't connecting to the internet. The router and everything is fine as other computers in the house are working. It's just one desktop pc that isn't connecting.
Our internet was running slower than it should and that was because we had too many wires and so in order to speed it up we decided to use a wireless connection instead of an ethernet cable.

The problem seems to be that the adapter just isn't connecting. The little icon showing the status of the connection keeps going back and forth from no connection to attempting to connect.

I've made sure the box about the ip address is ticked and things like that. Is there any other way? Or maybe the adapter is no good.

My computer is Windows XP.

Thanks

I'm not sure how to get the specs needed for this question, but i'll give what I know.
Windows XP, trying to connect to Nintendo Wii or XBOX 360 using a BUFFALO WLI-U2-KG54-YB Wireless LAN Adapter.
My Wii can find the access point, then when it tries to connect I get an error saying 'Cannot connect to Internet'.
Firewall is turned off during connection testing.
I am using a computer without a router to do this. I am sharing internet without another computer on the other side of the house via wired router connection.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Side note: I have the official Nintendo Wi-Fi adapter and it works perfectly on my computer and Wii so I can't see why Buffalo doesn't.

Could this be mis-matched encryption keys? That seems the most likely scenario.

Hi,
I have windows xp sp2 on my pc and three days back I faced some problem with my machine due to spywares.. I ran my xp setup hoping to rectify it. After that I have not been able to connect to internet thru my adsl model connected through my lan card. When I try Ip /release or renew i get an error saying:
the operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible...
I have tried netsh commands to refresh winsock, including catalog command.. i have also manually deleted winsock and winsock2 from registry and refreshed tcp/ip manually.
I have dhcp connected to my adapter since i have obtain ip and dns set to automatically.
I have ran netdiag /test:winsockxp and it passed all the tests. So my winsock is not corrupt going by these test results..but when i do msinfo32 i see only two entries in protocol:
MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]
MSAFD Tcpip [UDP/IP]

When i do ipconfig i see my ip as:
169.xx.xx.xx an apipa.
I can ping
127.0.0.1 so my tcp/ip is ok
i cant ping :
192.168.0.1
My adsl modem is MT880 i tried reseting it by the backpanel reser button and then i tried connecting thru IE to http://192.168.0.1 it asks for uid/password and fails authentication when I give admin/admin.
My default network connection is configured to always dial .. it is set up to connect as pppoe.

I have run out of all the options now.. and i wud greatly appreciate any help i cud get on this issue..
thanks a million in advance.

For about a year or two now, my pc will not connect to any network at all. I've tried pretty much everything so i decided to come on here and get some help. When the problem first occured, i thought maybe it was just my ethernet adapter not working so i went out and bought a wifi adapter. It turns out, it still doesn't work. When im connected via ethernet it says "identifying no internet access", and when i use my adapter, it says im connected, but it also says "unidentified network". If someone could manage to help me with this and get this problem solved for me, i would be super greatful because i've stayed up night after night trying to fix this issue and still haven't had any luck.

hopefully someone that can help me will find this - I am finding this entire experience REALLY frustrating.

I have a Dell Latitude laptop running Windows Me. It worked fine for the past year with Belkin network adapter to main computer with linksys router...then, it didn't work. I bought new Belkin adapter - it got a signal from the router but couldn't connect to internet. So I bought a new Linksys network adapter. It is also definitely getting a signal from the linksys router - but can not connect to internet.

I am desperate here....and very frustrated. I went thru all sorts of "suggestions" from the Belkin support folks (or should I say "morons") none of which worked. So now I sit here with my Linksys network adapter with the some problem. The worst part of all this is - THIS WORKED A FEW MONTHS AGO. the only thing I can even remotely think of that might have had anything to do with this is I took the laptop to a hotel and went to connect to their wireless system - but they wanted a huge fee so I didn't connect....came home and forgot about it....but when my kids went to get online - we never could.

PLEASE - any assistance would be greatly appreciated. (fyi - I am a Mom and a Registered Nurse, so while I am intelligent, I am not familiar with tech lingo and computer stuff - please be very specific with your help...thanks)

When I tried to connect to the internet it says I need to install a network drive or something. I've done that but it still can't connect to my modem. It doesn't even detect any connection coming from the modem and I'm connected through a ethernet cable.
Any ideas on how it can be fixed?

A:Unable to connect to internet cause of network adapter problem.

go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc right click the devmgmt.msc icon in the Search Results and Run As Administrator. In the Device Manager do you see any devices with yellow marks? If so, these devices need to have drivers installed. If you have a name brand computer (Dell, HP etc) go to the manufacturers Support/Download Drivers site and type in your service tag # or your make and model # and download the Network Adapter for your specific computer. And any other drivers you need.

I have recently just moved to a new city, and i am trying desperately to get my desktop computer connected to the internet. This computer is fairly old, and hasn't been used in a while but it worked fine when it was last used. It is a Gateway computer, with Windows XP. I have always used a wireless USB Network adapter (Linksys 2.4GHz - fairly old) and it has always worked fine in the past. I bought a new wireless router, which is also a linksys. My laptop connects fine.

I have tried EVERYTHING, so I'm not sure if I did something that made the situation worse. I have tried renewing my IP address, changing my security key for the router, configuring the IP settings to match my laptops, installing the same program that i used on my laptop onto my desktop (which i think might be the problem but i don't know how to uninstall it.) The program I installed was for the Linksys router, but it wouldn't finish the installation b/c i had already installed it on my laptop.

Anyways, I think i made a mess of things. When i try to connect to the internet using the task bar icon, it says that Windows cannot configure the wireless connection, and if i have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, to use that software. So, i tried using the half installed Linksys program, and I type in my security key then it takes a while trying to connect. Finally, it will say that it could not connect to the wireless network, but it shows at the bottom that there is e... Read more

Hello,

The network adapter driver is reported missing by windows on my Acer M5630 desktop running Windows 7 32bit and i cannot connect to the internet (using another computer for this).

I am using a Ethernet cable connected to a router which also has 3 other Ethernet ports that are working fine (have other devices plugged into those), as well as wireless that is working fine with my laptop and kindle. Also, there is no Network Adapter category listed in the Device Manager and some "Multimedia controller" & "Multimedia Video controller" items listed under Other Devices with yellow exclamation points.

This problem started after i plugged in an iPhone and it auto installed its drivers, i did what i needed to do with it, and then the problem started next time i turned on the computer. Now after turning the desktop on and not being able to connect, i try to shut down with the windows button, it enters a shutdown-reboot cycle until i do a hard shutdown. Previously, it was starting up into this shutdown-reboot cycle too, and i could only start in safe mode, but that problem seems to have fixed it's self.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hey all,

I've been away from the PC world for the past few years because I've been running a Mac.
I decided to get back into some gaming on picked up a Dell XPS desktop running windows 7 ultimate x64.
I bought a Asus USB N10 Wifi Adapter and it won't connect to the internet. It gets a limited activity logo over top of the connection.
Today I tried plugging it rite into the router with a LAN cable and still, no dice. Came up with an IP address error.
I'm guessing this is a router issue? When i run ipconfig in cmd prompt, it doesn't even have a default gateway?
Could someone explain what is going wrong here, and why It wont connect? We have 2 Macs, a PS3, some android tablets and a HP laptop running from out D-Link router.

Thanks for the help in advance, I really appreciate it guys!
