Sony Monitor flicking on/off everytime pc is accessed

Q: Sony Monitor flicking on/off everytime pc is accessed

Sony LCD is about 3 years old. Each time I get on the computer the screen begins flicking quickly, eventually slows and finally stops. As long as I keep the screen active it does not seem to happen. And every so often the screen goes green for a second or two (sometimes blue) and then comes back on when I click the mouse. Any suggestions?

Preferred Solution: Sony Monitor flicking on/off everytime pc is accessed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good Day
I have a View Sonic G90f 19in monitor and is about 8 or 9 yeasrs old.
I have a Nvidia 8800GTS that is about 2 years old.
Lately I have been having problems with the monitor turning Off and then back On some times once in a while and sometime continuously.really no pattern to when it flicks on and off.
The Drivers are up to date for the V card.
I checked all the connections and everythings seems OK but still problem exist.
Settings are at 1280 x 1024 75 HTz 32 bit color.
I will open the cover and jiggle the V card but not sure if this would do anything.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?

A:Monitor flicking On and Off

If the problem only started recently and the monitor is 9 years old, it's likely it's dying. The only to know for sure is to swap in another monitor and see if it does the same thing.

My monitor is just spazzing out, and I have no idea why. In fact I know it's not the monitor that's the problem because I switched my tower with my brother's tower to see what would happen (using the same monitor), and it works perfectly fine.

Just so you guys have some background...

My computer decided to crash at one point whilst I was playing music and using MSN messenger, not even letting me bring up task manager using ctrl+alt+delete. I had to manually restart the computer, but when the startup screen came up it had a really strange graphics issue where there were sketchy lines running through the screen, and when the DOS-looking screen came up (i.e. when checking if there's anything in the CD drive) all the characters were jumbled and scattered. What's worse, Windows didn't even start up...the screen just stayed blank after the Windows load screen. I attempted Safe Mode and the same thing occurred, so I'm guessing it is a hardware issue?

Just to be sure I tried putting my computer through system recovery with the disk that was provided with the computer, and surprisingly it did take me to Windows...the part where it starts checking for hardware drivers and goes through all the stuff that it does when you recover the system...however when it said it had to test the keyboard and mouse, and the screen may flicker for a few seconds my monitor started off with its very own issue. I waited at least 10 minutes, and it didn't stop.

I just purchased 2 new hard drives and a new copy of Windows 10 for my desk top set up. I removed my old hard drives and put the new ones in with the intention of installing the operating system. However, when I start up my new system my monitor only displays picture for a couple of minutes before it goes blank and flicks between HDMI and Analog not displaying any picture.

What I have tried:

Using a different brand monitor with a different socket into my graphics card.

Using a different graphics card.

Using different ports for my graphics card in the board.

Removing and cleaning graphics card and RAM.

I even got desperate and changed my system back to what I used a few days ago and my monitor still plays up.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get my picture back?

I have a dual monitor set up running off an ATI Raedon R7770 and if any videos are played, at all, monitor 1 (main) does whats in the picture. The only way to fix it is get lucky 1/100 and hit esc or push and hold the power button.
I've updated java, flash, and my vid card drivers and now it seems worse instead of better. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have read other posts about this issue, but I don't believe my problem is my system. Everytime I boot up the computer monitor goes into sleep mode. Won't let me in safe mode or anything else. I connected the monitor to a whole other system and it does the same thing. So this would mean it has to be the monitor correct? And if so, what causes this kind of thing and can it be fixed? I tried getting into the monitor menu and it just goes down into sleep mode.Thanking everyone in advance for any help offered.

A:Monitor Goes to Sleep Everytime PC Boots Up

If you have tried the monitor on a known working system, then you pretty much have your answer. The monitor has failed. With the price of new lcd monitors so cheap now, it does not make any sense to try and repair an old monitor. A new widescreen lcd is all of $99

As for troubleshooting, I would check the pins on both the monitor and the cable. If you have another cable to swap in, then do so. Other than that, there is not really much else you can do. While it is possible to open a monitor and replace, a failed component, it is not really cost effective.

Here's an imaginary situation...

For curiosities sake, two independent motherboards are present in a case, installed in such a way that only one could be on at a time. Let's say that one motherboard is an intel chip with hardware configured to run windows 7 and let's say that the other is an apple motherboard configured for OS X Lion. And there is a three way switch on the case giving power to only one board at a time.

If the motherboards were both run to one hard drive, could both motherboards access the hard drive and function normally so long only one of them was on at a time?

I am assuming that they would be able to, the board set up for windows would search the drive for its partition and read and write to it, and the board set up for mac would search for its partition and read and write to it.

And before things get nuts, yes, I know that you don't need to do this and that you can dual boot mac/windows blah blah blah. I am just curious as to whether or not it is possible.

If you have to know why I ask, I am considering a mod to put an xbox1 mobo and a ps2slim mobo into an xbox1 case, in with a micro atx psu and a 2.5 hdd. the case mod being a homage to phantom crash and slai, the setup would only run these two games off the hdd.

A:Can one HDD be accessed by two motherboards if accessed at different times?

In theory, if the power to the HDD also switches to the corresponding motherboard, yeah it should be possible. (see EDIT below)

But this switching-idea must also be applied to the data cable running to the HDD. The cable must not be connected to both motherboards at the same time, that would cause internal confusion.

But in theory, a multi-port power switch could do the job, sure.

Keep in mind, for your splendid idea: you need (at least) two separate partitions on the HDD, one formatted in FATX, and one formatted in (whatever format the PS2 uses). It is possible to format two different partitions on a drive in different formats, but it is tricky.

I'm at my mum's house and I've decided to try out MapleStory on her old laggy computer. She recently updated her internet, but it still runs terribly slow.
When I download MapleStory (client on the nexon website), everything downloads perfectly fine and within 2 hours, it'll be finished. Installing it takes time, but it ends up installing everything perfectly fine (including the finishing bits when you run the game).
It runs fine and I can log in and select a server and channel, but the moment it goes to the 'character selection' screen, the whole game starts flicking around and it makes it impossible to click 'back'.
If I select a server with no characters, the images stay fine, but if I go to create a character, the images begin to flick again. (Oblviously has something to do with the characters...but what)?
MapleStory doesn't close or anything, but I can't exit it. I can, but only by the task manager. Just want to know what's going on and if anyone knows how, how to fix the problem.

i got a new laptop a month or so ago, but since using it the screen is doing my head in. it keeps flicking from filling the whole screen to having a black bar about 1 or 2 inches wide on either side and everything on the screen then fills only that area, not even the cursor can go in the black sides.

my tabs on google crome also get smaller, for example, the twitter tab when the screen is big will say twitter/home with a little gap after and when it is small only twitter/ho will fit. it happens constantly no matter if i'm touching the laptop or not. the screen will go back then swap size. however, if i'm typing it will carry on during the balck screen that's on for like half a second, but the cursor will go back to being in the middle. sometimes it can be like 15 mins between size changes, but sometimes it like happens about 10 times within 30 seconds.

i checked the screen resolution but when i change that the font just gets bigger, and thats not the problem.i get a message each time it changes saying...

I recent bought a Sony LCD monitor off of ebay that normally comes with the Sony Slimtop PCV-L600.

Does anyone know if there are any adapters available that would allow me to connect this monitor to a regular computer via serial port or any other standard port?

Thanks everyone,

A:Question about My Sony Monitor

The Sony Vaio power supply is usually low (I have one). First make sure you have at least around 300-350 watts; 250 is the lowest. If that is dvi, which it looks like, the GeForce 6600, or the ATI Radeon 9800 will probably work.

Just wondering if I could get some advice on the following monitor.

Its a Sony SDMX73 TFT Monitor.

Now what I was wondering was does anyone have this monitor or know of anyone that does, and what is it like to use?

Also is this a good monitor for gaming and graphic design?

Hoping someone can give me some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

A:Advice on Sony TFT Monitor

Just general information about LCD vs. CRT monitors (since you're using it for graphic design, the comparison may be of interest): PC World Article.

My understanding (and I am not an expert on monitors) is that CRT monitors are still better than LCD monitors in the graphics department, although LCD technology is improving every day. The upside to the LCD are: 1) Looks cool; 2) takes up less space.

I couldn't access the system after reboot because it stayed at 100% utilization. When I hooked it up to an old monitor, it worked fine. So I downloaded the latest driver for the Sony flat panel, model sdm-s81 and installed it when I was still using the old monitor. Then I brought up Outlook and switched monitors while it was working. The new monitor read the mail fine and continued to function until I restarted it. Then it repeated the previous routine of locking up right after reboot with the desktop icons visible, but the system tray icons not shown and an hour glass whenever I tried to do anything. I brought Windows XP up again on the old monitor and everything is accessible, so I switched to the new monitor but am not going to turn off the machine until I hear from you. You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved.

Run HijackThis. Click "Do a System Scan Only", and place a check next to the following items (if found):

I am interested in purchasing a new LCD display (used primarily for gaming). I looked up "The Beast" in the pc powerplay magazine, and found they recommended the monitor: Samsung 930BF 19" 4ms LCD.

I went to the store asking for the monitor, and the sale attendant said it was good, but also suggested this monitor: Sony SDMHS95PS 19" 12ms LCD. http://www.pcshopper.com.au/product.php?productid=45273&cat=429&page=1

I was wondering, since I am using the monitor primarily for gaming, which monitor would be better? The Sony monitor has a glossy finish, meaning the image it produces is sharper than the Samsung. However, the Sony has a lower response time of 12ms when compared to Samsung?s 4ms.

Would you notice much ghosting with the Sony?s 12ms response time? Is it justifiable to have a slower response time, but a crisper image? Any advice would be most appreciated.

EDIT: I actually heard that Sony's response time is 8ms rather than 12ms. This is because Sony time their response time in REAL TIME, where'as Samsung do it internally in the pc itself. (In otherwords, if Sony were to time their monitors in the pc itself, their response time would be 8ms not 12ms).

A:Monitor: Samsung vs. Sony

Always Sony, nevermind the response time, you won't tell the difference beetwen 12ms and 8ms.

A:Flicking on screen and noise in my laptop

First of all, welcome to BC. See, it's a great site, your problem has gone away already !
On a more serious note, what sort of noise is it ?  Sort of a fan whirring noise, or is there an element of click to it ?  There are three things I would do as a precaution / check.
First off, back up my data - work, photos, music, that sort of stuff. Depending on how much you have, you can use anything from a USB stick to an external USB hard drive. But back it up, just in case you do have a hard drive problem.
Secondly, run chkdsk /r on you hard drive. You do this by opening the Command prompt which you will find at 'Start / Programs / Accessories'. RIGHT click on 'Command prompt' and select 'Run as administrator' in the drop-down box that appears. This will produce a black window with white text. Just type 'chkdsk /r' (Note - there is a space between 'chkdsk' and '/r') and press enter. You will then get a message saying it cannot run, do you wish to run at next boot Y / N. Type 'Y' (= Yes) and press enter, then reboot your computer. Chkdsk will run when it starts up.
Dependiing on the size of your hard drive and the speed of your processor, this may well take upwards of an hour, don't turn your computer off until it has finished. It will then tell you if there are any faulty sectors on your hard drive.
Thirdly I would download, install and run a little program called 'Speccy', you can get it here :

However, I cannot select 1920x1080 resolution...I can force it to display 1920x1080 resolution as an option in display settings, but when I select it, it will not take (the TV looks the same).I was able to add the TV to my devices and printers section (probably because it is on the same network), but I still cannot select the TV as my monitor in my display settings. It only shows up in display settings as a generic non-PnP monitor.

How do I get Windows 7 to recognize my specific TV and use it as my monitor?

I would guess the installed GeForce graphics driver is not totally Windows 7 compatible.
Check the NVidia website for a driver which is intended for Windows 7:

For some reason my monitor is showing black as a purple gray. The brightness is set to its lowest point yet its still too bright. There are also very faint horizontal lines, (about 5 of them,) that appear in a 45-degree angle across the screen. Usually they are present on boot up when the screen shows black. What the hell is happening here?

Any help would be appreciated. I got the feeling that when I take it to a repair station they are going to RIP me off. Any help on what to look out for would be appreciated as well.

So I turned my computer on this morning and my monitor seems to have failed... Its a Sony GDM-5402 21" CRT display, yes I know its ancient and very obsolete but it worked perfectly up to last night and it could run all the way up to 2048x1536 with no problems.

Below is a youtube link to what it does now, there is no PC connected but it doesn't matter, does the same thing either way-

It definitely failed, but my question is what caused it? It had no symptoms leading up to this, and 10 hours ago it worked perfectly. Could it be some simple/cheap fix such as bad capacitors? I would like to try everything in my power to fix it.

The monitor on my VGC-LT16E (all in one) just started started shutting off while loading windows. The power light stays green and the monitor button that is next to the power button on the top doesn't turn orange like it normally would when the system goes into sleep or hibernate mode. If I press the monitor power button once it will turn orange (as if I turned it off), when I immediately press it again the monitor will turn on, orange light goes off but this only lasts for a few seconds. The more I do it the faster it turns itself off.

Seems to be a common problem with the "All-In-Ones"...typically from the power supply.

Im going to buy a new monitor, im having a really hard time finding a decent 19 inch.

i went out shopping recently and ive seen these new monitors with reflective screens - example Sony LCD Monitor 19 Inch, SDM-HS94PB

At first i thoufght no way i dont want a monitor that looks like a TV screen with horrible reflections in bright light but since then ive been wondering about it, does anyone have any experience using a monitor like this?, how is it when working with 3d graphics?, are the colours any more vibrant?, and is the reflection an issue?

Thanks, Ric
ALSO - im going to be running it along side a Samsung 171s, will having a reflective monitor along side a non reflective monitor be an issue at all?

I opened a similar Q a while back, pertaining to the same type of reflective screen on the new laptops....got no responses. I guess nobody has any experience with them?

I didn't like what I saw in the store! Don't think I'll be buying one.

Sony monitor (17" LCD) flickered from full color to dark blue then back to full color just a couple of times and then..tadaah! now only displays in dark blue. I'm guessing something has happened to the red and green channels? Is there a circuit board I can replace?

Thanks for viewing my thread....

A:Sony monitor displays one color only.

Have you checked the VGA cable is plugged in tightly on both the monitor and the video card?
