Laptop Does Not Detect WiFi Card on Boot 50%~ of the time.

Q: Laptop Does Not Detect WiFi Card on Boot 50%~ of the time.

When I boot up my laptop I would say it's a coin flip whether or not it detects my WiFi card on boot--I can tell whether or not it has been detected on boot because the WiFi symbol (instead of the LAN) symbol will appear in the bottom right corner of the home/login screen. When the card is detected the WiFi works PERFECTLY fine. This problem started happening when I used and uninstalled Technitium (a program that allows you to easily change your WIFI card's MAC address.) The reason I was using this program was so I could keep using an airport's complimentary free 30 min WiFi service for a few hours without having to pay--surely I've been paying for it in problems the last few months. Could anyone offer any insight as to how I can fix this? You guys have been my heroes since I was a kid.

Preferred Solution: Laptop Does Not Detect WiFi Card on Boot 50%~ of the time.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Every time I restart or turn on my ASUS U36JC laptop (functioning on Windows 7) after shutting it down, I cannot connect to any WiFi networks because it tells me that no connections are available, when I am 100% positive that there ARE networks.

I temporarily address this issue by going to Start >> Device Manager >> Network Adapters >> Highlight "Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless Network Adapter" >> Uninstall >> Scan for hardware changes (which reinstalls the adapter) >> Problem temporarily solved, but passwords for wireless connections I've previously connected to are wiped out.

This isn't solving the problem because every time I shut down my computer, the issue comes back when I turn it back on. I have tried to reinstall the WiFi driver from ASUS but to no avail.

I am a complete dummy when it comes to these hardware / software things. Could someone help? Thanks so much!

My building has a free wifi service. There are routers on each floor. My computer has built in wireless lan. It will recognize signals from those who have installed ATT's 2wire system, but not a single signal from and othe routers in the building. I am now using a usb wifi adapter which has detected all the signals. I have reinstalled the drivers and tried to connect the wireless lan but it has been unsuccessful. The windows connection software will not work. It seems strange to be able to detect the ATT connections but not any of the buildings signals.

guys this one has me stumped cold. Dell Inspiron laptop, very clean software wise, had original mini-card [internal] which could not detect any wifi networks - known good wifi AP's. All the windows checked showed the device working properly but I finally replaced it with one of the better "n" cards out there. Same thing all over again. Put it right next to a working AP, cannot detect a thing. Antennae is hooked up properly.

If I plug a good WIFI stick into USB, it works immediately, no drama.

I have no idea what is preventing this from detecting anything. What should I be looking for?

A:WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

Hi zapp22,

It appears that the 'Wireless Card' is currently 'Disabled'; please check its status in 'BIOS' and 'enable' it if needed. To access 'BIOS' you may follow the steps listed below:
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on and at 'Dell splash screen', repeatedly tap 'F 2 key' (BIOS screen should appear) > Usually 'Dell Inspiron' laptops have a 'category' named 'Advanced' > Ensure that WLAN is enabled > 'Save Settings' and 'Exit'
(Note: BIOS setup may vary based on different laptop models)

If the wireless card still does not detect any networks in 'Windows', try tapping <Function><F2> or only <F2> if the previous key combination does not work. This is the 'radio control' for the 'Wireless Card' installed in the system.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the finding; would be glad to assist.

For the usb detection error it is an adapter that plugs my micro sd card into the usb port so i can move music onto it to put it in my phone, i had to reformat the sd card while it was in my phone so my phone could use it and now i cannot get it detected on my computer no matter how i connect it (usb adapter, SD card adapter, micro sd port ) and i have yet been able to find a solution to this problem. the device status is "This device could not start. Good morning. Betweent 2am and 3am this morning my laptop restarted. However when it booted back up I could not get on the internet. I checked my networks and no wifi was there. Now it wasn't like when you use airplane mode and you get the msg that networks cannot be detected. In my case that doesn't even exist. The computer is acting as if I could never get online via wifi. I can only get online using my ethernet cable which isnt ideal for me since I need to be on the go often. I checked my device manager and I see my ethernet and a few other adapters but not the one for wifi. I restarted my computer many times. I went to hp recovery and reinstalled my driver for the network card to no success. Sadly my warrenty had expired last month. I need all the help I can get.

Hello all, I have this J8B81PA#ACJ product named laptop, I had this wifi issue since I have been using the laptop but then I installed updated drivers on Win 8.1 and wifi issue was resolved. Later when upgraded to Win10, the issue began like Wifi signals disappear or suddenly my wifi network doesnt appear at all. After few days updating the drivers from MS resolved this. It has been quite a while and again this issue has begun, my wifi network doesnt appear even if I connect wifi adapter to it the network doesnt show up, whereas all my near by networks are available. I even tried resetting my wifi router to see if my Wifi router has some issues but the problem seems to be in laptop itself. Currently, I either need to use the internet by LAN or by USB/Bluetooth tethering from my Android mobile. Hereby, I look for a final solution to this recurring problem of Wifi. Kindly let me know inputs needed from my side.   Hoping for a help. Thanks in advance! Nirmal

Hi frnds,
My Laptop cant detect any wifi connections.I have already tried Updating Network Adapters, its all Up-to-Date.
My Problem in brief - Few days ago I downloaded a Nvidia gfx update for my Card (Geforce GT 720M 2GB) with Win8.1(updated using a update previously downloaded from Win8 to 8.1). After Installing Nvidia driver update all my Games was unable to run,so i searched for it, I found that my Intel drivers are out of date as i was using latest Nvidia drivers,so I tried to download Intel drivers but the installation says that these drivers r not compatible with my device(i dont know wtf happened), Then I shutdown my Laptop.

Next Day I started my pc, I shows a blue screen just before the Login page of WIndows, Its Says..."Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you. (100% completed)"
under which error was given - VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (igdkmd64.sys)".
I waited for 15min but the blue sceen was stilll there. I restarted and it was again blue...I started using f8, recovery etc...login to system somehow...then got its solution by something to do with memory sump setting.and now its all gone...

But my games were still not running and so many programs stopped working showing "BEX" as error and after few days I wasnt able to connect/identify to my wifi hotspot. even newly installed games wasn't running...

Please Post back the results in device manager as requested below

Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the screen shot and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

how to access device manager for different windows versions

Hold the Windows key and press Pause key, should now open to allow device manager to be seen, see the menu on the left hand side

on a laptop you may need to use Hold the Windows key and press FN key + the pause key

If the above does not work then
For Windows 8 or Windows 10

If you happen to be using a keyboard with Windows 8, the quickest way to open Device Manager is via its shortcut on the Power User Menu, accessible by pressing the WINDOW key and the X key together.

I have an older Medion akoya p6618 laptop running W7 x86. The option for wireless in windows has vanished, like the pc doesn't have a wireless card, just as it would appear on a normal desktop pc - only LAN. It works fine with cable. Device manager shows no wireless option either. I have tried system restore, then formatting and dl'ing wlan and lan drivers from the medion website. Same problem. When i try to enable wifi using the Fn keyboard shortcut, nothing happens. The little led does not turn on.

At this point I'm feeling like card is just broken and that it is a hardware issue. What do you think? I'm considering buying a dongle like this one (TP-LINK TL-WN725N Netv?rksadapter USB 2.0 | Model: TL-WN725N | pc-lager.dk). Would this thing enable me to have wifi?

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that when I did a system restore it worked temporarily and I had internet access, but after a restart it stopped working. In the past it was hit or miss whether or not it would work, so again I'm leaning towards a hardware issue. Maybe there are some things I missed, though.

Hello, I have never had this problem until about a week ago. Let me first explain the problem. I turn on my laptop, and it is not connected to the wifi. It does not even show my wifi network, but it shows other ones. I have confirmed that it is not an issue with the wifi itself, because all of my other devices are able to connect. I have also confirmed that my computer is able to connect to the other networks that are shown, but I would like it to connect to my wifi network. So, if I leave my computer to sit for several hours and then come back to it, I am usually able to find the network and connect to it, but then if I restart my computer, it is gone again. I have Windows 10. If you need any more details, please let me know.

Hi there. i have been at this for about 6 and a half hours now. I am trying to connect a windows 8 laptop to a windows 10 desktop homegroup via wifi. The desktop created the homegroup with no issues and if i go into the "media streaming options" i can see the laptop in the list.
But when i go to connect the laptop to the laptop to the desktop homegroup all i see on top is "There is currently no homegroup on the network."
if i try to create the homegroup on the laptop i cannot find it in the desktop as well.
i was hoping that someone here can help me troubleshoot this issue.
thanks. mike,

here are the things i have tried so far.

-in cmd.exe
-ipconfig /renew
-ipconfig /flushdns
-ipconfig /release

-turning off all computers after leaving the homegroup. turning on one computer creating the homegroup on that computer then trying to join on the other computer afterwards. (done for both computers)
-reset all network settings
-make sure ipv6 was enables on both computers
-renamed both computers
-reset modem and created a new ssid and password.
and thats about all i can remember.

I have installed the most recent drivers for my bluetooth and wifi devices. I have also installed the latest Win10 updates. This wifi and bluetooth problem has been around for a while. If my laptop starts up with bluetooth on, I cannot connect to the wifi until bluetooth is off. Then when i can turn on bluetooth while the wifi is still on. Sometimes, if i turn bluetooth on while wifi is on, the wifi will turn off and there is no possible way to connect to the same wifi connection again (I can connect to other wifi), until i restart my computer. Sometimes when i disconnect bluetooth by going out of range or closing the flap, sometimes it reconnects, sometimes after turning the bluetooth off to start it up again, it just wont start. I have a feeling that running wifi and bluetooth at the same time is sacrificing significant wifi speed.

I have a HP A1100y that will freeze at start up with Netgear pci wi-fi card installed. I can take it out and it boots up fine and for 1st time after I put it in. But then when I shut down, it will freeze again at start up. Have been able to get it to go by repeatedly pushing "enter", but was told that is not good to do. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi, I have a HP 250 G3 laptop and I'd like to upgrade the N wifi card on it to a Dual AC wifi card. There are quite a few options available  on Amazon but I don't know which one to pick up. Vendors and Users have conflicting ideas. Where can I get sound information about the right AC wifi card? Thanks for your time, Aaron

A:What is the right AC Dual Wifi card for HP 250 G3 laptop?

Your notebook has a 1x1 antenna. It would have to have a 2x2 antenna setup to use 802.11ac. Unfortunately, That means that an  802.11ac wifi adapter won't broadcast or receive any signal broadcast by an SSID using 802.11ac protocol.  I suggest  that you save your money and purchase a notebook that already has the capability of using an 802.11ac adapter. This is the list of optionally installed adapters that could be in your notebook now.

Hi, I am looking to upgrade the wifi card in my laptop as I do not get optimal Network speeds, and I get conection issues at my university. The IT department said its something to with HP not finishing the autentication process properly.  I would also like to have dual band(2.5 and 5Ghz) and bluetooth 4.0. This is my Laptop's Info:Product name:HP 15 Notebook PCProduct number:M4X88PAProcessor name:AMD A8-6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics The current Wifi card is:  Broadcom Ralink Radio Module Model: BCM943142HM. I have read and understood the steps required to switch out the moduel itself.  I would like to know what card/s would be compatible with my device- something affordable(<$20AUD) preferably. Thank you in advance.

A:Upgrading Wifi card in Laptop

Do you have 2 antennae? If not, you cannot effectively upgrade to a 2 x 2 card with 5 ghz capability. If you do, the card to get is the Broadcom Azurewave: https://www.amazon.com/AzureWave-Broadcom-BCM94352HMB-BCM94352-867Mbps/dp/B00JY6X9HM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U... A little more than $20 but still an excellent value. You cannot use the Intel cards because you have the AMD processor and this Azurewave is the best non-Intel wifi card in your form factor.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

So just recently my LINKSYS WPC54GS WiFi card will freeze the touchpad and my external mouse and I have to restart my laptop without the card inserted to get the touchpad to work again. If I restart the laptop with the card in it, the Windows boot screen will hang up and stop booting. Any clues to my dilemma?

I was thinking BIOS maybe, but I don't have enough knowledge with computers to try to mess with that stuff.

has that resoved the issue or not
it maybe the signal is broadcasting on channel 12/13

can you connect the pc directly to the router with a cable and then
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

enter you details
Download this file "DOWNLOAD WI-FI INSPECTOR Vx.xx "
( the site now appears to allow webbased emails like gmail, hotmail, outlook and yahoo now )

There is also a xirrus gadget, But that does not have all the fuctionality "DOWNLOAD GADGET Vx.xx

Hello! Registered because I really need help.

My Compaq laptop (Vista) was working just fine last night, connected to my home wireless network all right and all. Today morning my laptop couldn't detect my home wireless network at all, but it could still detect a bunch of other networks from the neighbours. My iPhone can detect my network with no problems, my desktop computer is wired up to the router, works fine too. It's a D-Link DIR-655. This has happened before but usually gets solved when I reboot (switching off and on) my router. I've tried that, tried restarting my computer too, no use. Haven't tried anything beyond that because I'm an idiot with computers.

Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

A:Solved: Laptop cannot detect home network, can detect others

Huh ok nevermind, I reset my router, blabla, it's working again. I guess it's solved?

A:Problems with netgear wifi laptop card

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On the W98 machine, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type COMMAND to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

Here's the Service Manual: Manual See pp. 47 and 49-50 for "how to".  The Manual says you have 2 wireless antennae but I would open the service door and be sure of that.  If you have 2 antennae, you do not have a whitelist so you can install any card with the correct form factor. The best for AMD processor systems such as yours is the Broadcom Azurewave.  https://www.amazon.com/AzureWave-Broadcom-BCM94352HMB-BCM94352-867Mbps/dp/B00JY6X9HM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492460405&sr=8-1&keywords=Broadcom+Azurewave This ia n 802.11ac card that operates in both 5ghz and 2.4 ghz modes and gives the top end Intel cards (which you cannot use) a run for their money in terms of performance. It also provides bluetooth support.  You must however have 2 antennae for this to work right.  If you have only one antenna wire, post back for other options.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I have a 2011 Asus k53sv laptop with an i7 processor and 8 gigs of ram. I recently upgraded my wifi card because I had an old centrino 100-n card. I upgraded to an intel 7260ac in order to get better speeds in general. Currently my ISP is giving me 100mgbs download and 20 mgb upload. On my girlfriends newer laptop she is getting around 75 mgb download on speedtest.net, however, when I try speedtest on the same network using my laptop, I max out at 20 mgbs. These tests are done one right after another so bandwidth issues aren't the problem. I have all of the correct drivers for this card installed so I don't think that is the issue either. Any ideas on how to fix this on my laptop?
Thanks in advance!

I'm preparing my system for a Win 10 upgrade. Installed a new motherboard-memory-cpu etc
With the new graphics card Geforce GT 740 sc (2 gig) the system initiates...but then nothing

If I remove new card and replace it with the old Geforce GT 630... and system works fine - replace with new GT 740 and nothing happens at start up ? Card is seated properly in slot...fan on card spins...but no video

Do I need to unistall the Gt 630 drivers...etc and then install the new GT 740..? Or what else would keep the New GT 740 from initializing at system start up ?

Hi All,

Recently i have upgraded my wifi card in my laptop to allow for the Intel Widi functionality that my tv has. prior to installing this my pc would boot in about 15 seconds as i've also recently installed a SSD.

However since installing this wifi card (Intel ac 7260) on windows 7 x64 i have encountered numerous problems. The first few reboots after installation were kind of slow and i thought this would be the computer installing files etc to deal with the new hardware however this is not the case.. Before the boot screen for windows appears theere will be a blinking white cursour in the top left hand of the screen which will eventually dissapear and then the boot screen will appear which is also painfully slow. i've upgraded to the latest drivers however this has not solved the problem if anything it's made it slower.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what i could do ?

A:Computer Hangs at boot after Wifi card upgrade

I would first enter the BIOS Settings and see if the WiFi device is enabled (recognized).

If it is, then try disabling it in BIOS Settings and see if the boot/startup issue resolves itself with the card installed but disabled.

Then try physically uninstalling the card and see if the boot resolves.

You are testing to see if the card is installed correctly, or if the card may be faulty.
On thing I've noticed is that on some laptops the two wires that connect to the card are "keyed" so you can't (easily) switch them, but on others the two connectors are exactly the same. It does make a difference which way the wires go.
