I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

It's possible that TWAIN DSM is missing on your Win 7 machine. You can get it here and try again.

Edit: Think my hard drive may be failing and was the cause of my file synchronizing crash. I use it mostly to stream music and video and access the hard drive a lot. Any advice thanks

HDDStatus - Tool to check hard disk status, health and reliability

I've been using GoodSync for the past couple of months to chain synchronize 3 hard disk drives and ran into my first issue today. GoodSync stopped responding whilst synchronizing changes to files so I used task manager to manually end the process.

I'm not entirely sure how much damage has been caused but when I re-analyzed the file changes a lot of the changes prior to the crash was no longer listed.. So I'm unsure of the file integrity but have so far noticed some music video files are corrupt with cyclic redundancy check errors but is not easily visible to check corrupt files because they still play but parts of data are missing.

I think I've experienced cyclic redundancy check errors before when my external hard drive fell flat on it's side whilst it was playing music (3 years ago). It took me a long time to filter out the bad files because all the mp3 files worked but some songs would randomly play in others etc.. is their some type of automated CRC scanner or method to check all my files ?

This looks to be a tricky one. I have two PC's running windows 7 Pro with SP2. One can detect and run Canon Toolbox for scanning, the other does not. When running it states error "Unable to open Twain Source". I have not been able to identify the reason why the windows 7 installation runs differently. I have re-installed the windows 7 (upgrade/repair) on the PC that does not work.

I have read forums that recommend adding a system variable to the path. This does not work. I have tried to compare paths, setting, etc between the machines yet they are the same (at least so far).

Windows scanner and camera properties (c:\program files\windows photo viewer) shows the scanner (Canon 8400F). I ran diagnostics and scanner executes successfully. I select scan profiles and it states "No scanner detected". This is puzzling.

I worked with Canon to delete driver, and re-install (after reboot of course). Re-installed Canon tool box 4.9, the driver is for the windows 7 64 bit. Those seem to install correctly. There seems to be some issue with windows 7 as it seems to see a scanner until you run and then it cannot detect it.

It has puzzled Canon, nothing in the forum so far has a solution and I am puzzled as I have spnet many hours on this. Yet it works on one machine but not the other. I have been un-installing several applications but nothing seems to be in conflict. The driver is shown as installed and ok in device manager.

I hope this is enough information to... Read more

A:Canon 8400F - "Unable to open Twain Source" error message

I can fully relate to the problem of installing the train driver for the Canon 8400f scanner. I suddenly found my scanner not working and spent hours trying every idea I could find on the Internet without success. I tried loading and using the scanner on an old XP computer and it worked fine so I knew the scanner wasn't the problem.

I decided my problem somehow involved Windows 7 software. I downloaded and installed all of the upgrades from Microsoft, including over 40 optional ones, and after this the scanner worked fine. I've no idea which of the many upgrades solved the problem as I didn't install them one at a time..

Judging by posts on the Internet many have had or have this problem so perhaps my solution may be of help to others.

I'll start by saying thanks just for giving the time to review my request.

My computer recently was infected, I'm not completely sure what it was exactly, but first thing that occured was AVG caught multiple attacks. I told avg to clean them, but somehow it managed to get past avg.

The first symptom was google redirections, on almost ever link from google searches. Then I noticed certain websites were completely unaccessible, e.g. microsoft.com. I noticed all this in Internet Explorer, I then attempted to try google in Mozilla Firefox and got the same redirections. After that first time I used firefox since the infection, I can no longer open firefox.

Using Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and TDSSKiller to fight the problem, the first two programs failed to acclomplish anything even though they found errors. TDSSKiller found some rootkit and cured it, I'm sorry I cannot remember the name of the rootkit, which seems to have cured the google redirections and website blocks.

--Edit-- I noticed before I ran the TDSSKiller, taskmanager was showing an svchost.exe which was gorging my memory, running at 99% and well over 350,000K. Since the TDSSKiller run the svchost no longer shows as a problem.---

The problem left if Mozilla Firefox still does not open, and I'm still worried that maybe something is still left over that could be stealing information.
Thanks again, Matt

I am running Vista Home Ultimate and my Fax and Scan program only works intermittently. When trying to send a fax I will sometimes get the message:

"Microsoft Windows Fax and Scan has stopped working"

"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Then, the program closes without further response. The weird thing is I can send a fax moments before I get this error and then eventually at some point later in time after repeated re-trys it will suddenly start working again.

There is nothing on the Microsoft website (or anywhere else that I've been able to find) about this problem.

HI! I have been trying to install a product called Thumbsplus which was giving me a ODBC Driver Manager Error - Database source name not found and no default driver specified error.

After trying a fews things I starting looking at the ODBC Data Source Manager in windows 8 and noticed that I could not access the System DNS tab. ( I would get a warning " you are logged on with a non-administrator privileges. ) even thought the account Is an administrator account. So I logged off and entered in as administrator and still the same message.

Something is wrong and I suspect it has little to do with the thumbsplus program as I should be able to enter into the system dns tab without receiving this error message.

Can someone plz shed some light on this issue?

PS: If I say OK after the dialog message the manager with open up and allow me to click the add button but since I dont know how to add the apropriate info there I did not go further, hence to say the error message probably did cause thumbsplus to not install correctly.
Here is a video of what happens http://www.webcandesign.com/bugs/odbc.mp4

A:ODBC Driver Manager Error - Database source name not found

The "non administrator" message you are getting is very annoying but it will still let you add a system DSN. It is a known issue but nothing something you should be worried about in this instance.

That being said, I just installed the application in question and was able to without issue. It also didn't create it's own DSN. During my installation I selected the first option for the database creation "Shared database but separate settings"
This creates a Microsoft access Jet database in "C:\ProgramData\ThumbsPlus" folder.

Not sure if this matters, but do you have MS Office installed?

I have been using Windows Fax & Scan to scan in my artwork ever since I switched to Windows 7. I have a Canon Pixma MG5220. I had defined a scan profile, "lineart," to be black & white, 600 DPI. Now, when I start up the scan dialogue, it gives me this error: "Windows can't load your scan profile. Your profile might not be compatible with this scanner. Windows will scan using the default settings." And though it is titled "lineart," the Color format is set to "color" and cannot be changed to anything else.

No matter what angle I come at this program, this is the problem: The Color format is set to "color" and cannot be changed.

To clarify, I have used this profile "lineart" with this scanner successfully many, many times.

The possible cause of the problem is that I moved my computer and printer/scanner from one house to another in the last week. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, activated and deactivated Fax & Scan (with a computer reboot after each).

The Canon drivers did not come with any useful scanning utilities so I really need this to work. Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance for your help!

I recently bought a Seagate multimedia drive and had to return it because of bad sectors. I just got the replacement and the first time i connected it to the pc the "Scan and Fix" error message appeared. This also happened with the one i returned AND an Iomega multimedia drive (which i also had to return due to bad sectors).

Thats 3 drives all with the same error message and 2 with bad sectors. Could it be vista that is causing this? I have other removable hard drives (not multimedia) and the error message never comes up with them.

The common denominator in all this is my pc and windows vista. Any suggestions?

Please help me fix it.HI Kashinath,I myself have not come across this error before, hoping another person will advice alot better than myself ! it looks like a malware infection or something. if you are able to install a program and open up safe mode, please follwo these steps at you're own risk. 1) Download and install Spybot S+D 2) Download Super Anti Spyware3) Install both (if allowing) then fully update.4) boot into safe mode (if possible) and run both scanners. 5) this wil ltake around 30minutes to maximum of 5 hours depending on how infected and the size and speed of you're computer. let them scan and post back with a list of results. 6) This may not remove anything or detect anything but that is my advice take it as you wish and please respond ;) -Chris'#

The Lenovo Solution Center performed a hardward scan and it returned 1 error and instructed me to click on the link to submit an eticket. So I clicked on the link and got nothing but confusion from that point on. I can't find anywhere to submit a ticket to just find out what the error code is. All I get presented with are charged support options. I'm not experiecing any hardware issue as my systemseems to run just fine. But I would like to know what this error code points to. The code is"W1AH5U4VT-G4H1Z4". How can I find out what this is?

A:Hardware Scan Error Code

If you re-open the Lenovo Solutions Center and select Hardware Scan, on that page there is a See Last Results  link that will show you the report created during the last scan, and in that report it should show you what part of the test caused the error.    It may be something simple to fix with an updated driver (a lot of times it is just a video driver failing the Mathmatical Operations test), but hopefully that information will help you find a solution.    BTW  If it is the Mathmatical Opertaions test that failed, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for your video card, or just updating to a newer version will usually fix that error. Cheers,

Hi and welcome to Tenforums.
The System File Checker (sfc /scannow), sometimes needs to be run several times, with reboots in-between, before things get fixed. Please see the tutorial here:
SFC Command - Run in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

If after at least 3 runs, with reboots in-between, you still have issues, please open an Administrative Command Prompt, and type

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
Find the text file on your desktop, and paste it here so we can have a look at what's being flagged.

Basically, my system is

W98se on a P4-2.4gHz w/512 megs RAM. I'm on a wireless cable internet [NOT using AOL of any kind ... never installed, never will!!!]

When I run Norton Utilities' WinDOC program, I see an ERROR during the scanning process in the:

ActiveX/Com section.

The scan continues through top the end.

Sometimes there are errors displayed to be fixed. Mostly they are of the 'Shortcut' variety. No problem to fix.

However ... NOTHING ever shows up regarding the ActiveX/Com error that was seen during the scan.

I at least curious about these errors, and would like to resolve them.
Any insight would be much appreciated.

I've been through the Symantec site, but have not been able to find any pertinent info on this problem.

Again ... THANKS for any insight. If there is any additional info needed, I'll do all I can to provide it.

A:update error 8007370A (can't run SFC Scan )

Try running the SFC scan from the Repair Environment....

Reboot the computer, and tap the F8 key until you get the advanced boot menu up - one option should be 'Repair your computer'. Pick that one.

Log into your normal account.
You'll get a set of options - pick the Command Prompt one.
At the command prompt, type DIR C:\
- if we're lucky this will bring up a listing of your normal C: drive contents, including the Program Files folder(s) and the Windows folder.
If not, try D:\ or E:\ (etc. until you get the right letter)
then type the following command
sfc /scannow /OFFBOOTDIR=<drive>:\ /OFFWINDIR=<drive>:\Windows

where <drive> is the letter you found above.
(example - sfc /scannow /OFFBOOTDIR=P:\ /OFFWINDIR=P:\Windows)

Wait for the command to complete. (make a note of the response!).

Once it has, type EXIT and the pick the option to reboot.
The post the new CBS.log file (we don't need the rest this time - but you'll have to copy the file to the desktop before uploading it)

MBSA command line / off-line scan returns "An error occurred while scanning for security updates.  (0x8007000e)".

Scanning 32 bit Windows 7 professional, on a system w/ 4GB memory, that cannot be connected to the internet, but still required to be patch compliant.  Scanning with .cab file identifies required patches w/ no problems (no error as above).
Patches applied, including upgrade to .NET 4.5.2 and WMF 4 (PowerShell 4), etc.  After patches applied, re-scan with the same .cab results in the error listed above.  Problem occurs on three identical systems.  Problem does not occur on other

Hello maraden,

Try running the steps listed in the malware removal forum. Run as many of the steps as possible. If unable to complete any step make note and move to the next.

After completing the steps you will be advised to post a hijackthis log for one of the experts to examine. Please post the log in that forum not back in here.

Be patient and it may take some time for someone to assist you as that is a busy forum.

Almost immediately after my warrant ran out I got a message stating that a Hardware Scan had Detected an error. Result Code WHD01V001-WM7WMF  It seems related to a Targeted Read Test and a Smart Short Self Test.  I had warnings on each of the Wireless Test also but I'm not sure the Wireless Network Adapter has ever worked on this well. At any rate, the computer is dragging so something is wrong but I can't pinpoint it. I don't have any known issues with virsuses or programs running in the back ground.  Unfortunately we don't have the money to get it fixed right now and I'm hoping that I can find some solutions or answers here. Any help would be much apprecited. Thank you.

Sounds like a disk problem.  Get a copy of CrystalDiskInfo (freeware) and see what it thinks of your HDD.
