BIOS v40 flash failed on Lenovo Z410. No boot (screen blank). InsydeH20 invalid image firmware!

Q: BIOS v40 flash failed on Lenovo Z410. No boot (screen blank). InsydeH20 invalid image firmware!

My Lenovo Z410 came with v37 BIOS dated 2013.I went to Lenovo website and downloaded and ran 8DCN40WW.exeInstead of taking normal time to flash, Windows started rebooting after only a couple sec. No bootup. No beep. No Lenovo logo. Power light comes on. Blank screen (no backlight). After 50+ bootup attempts I sometimes get the blue error message at bootup:InsydeH20 invalid firmware image. After changing RAM positions, and trying the Lenovo "rescue" bootup button, I got a bootup.CPU-Z still shows the BIOS is V37 (ie it didn't flash). I know I have Secure Boot enabled. So, to fix this I believe I need to force flash the old v37 BIOS image. SUGGESTIONS?HELP?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Forgot to mention.I already tried "draining power". IE disassembling my laptop, and disconnecting the battery and AC adapter, and holding power button for 60sec+ many times. It doesn't fix the issue. Also, the RAM position etc, obviously has nothing to do with anything. I was able to bootup with exact same 2x DIMM config as originally.

Im working on a Toshiba Laptop A105-4284, Model #: PSAA8U-0FH02K that froze while trying to flash the BIOS, so I didnt know what else to do but shut it off. Now, when I try to boot it up, it gets stuck in the same place it did during the flashing; on the Toshiba splash screen with the status bar at the bottom showing about 20% complete. I cant get into the BIOS and cant boot into Windows. Other options available on this screen are Press F2 for System Settings and F12 for Boot Menu. Pressing F2 results in a beep and the status bar changing to "Please Wait..." but nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Pressing F12 doesnt do anything. Pressing ESC takes me to a screen that shows the typical system info -- Phoenix Technologies Version 6.00; Intel Calistoga CRB.T3A Reference BIOS; VERSION.MAK 1.53; (looks like its running POST and recognizes CPU, Cores, No TPM or TPM has a problem, and system RAM and stops there. What is my best course of action?:

- shorting out the CMOS battery (I've tried this on the solder pads marked C88, with no laptop battery, with and without the wi-fi, ram and hdd installed; Im either doing it wrong or its just not working )
- trying to reflash BIOS chip (I tried this; turned the laptop on and held down the 'c' key to boot from cd, but still got stuck at the same place)
- replacing the BIOS chip
- something else?

Any guidance or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

A:Toshiba A105: Failed BIOS flash; now no BIOS access & won't boot

Im trying to figure out why I've had no replies yet.

Have I asked a stupidly easy question that everyone is rolling their eyes to and cant bear to tell me the answer? Or have I stumped everyone?

I have a hard time believing this is a stumper. I've found the same question posted elsewhere on the net and shorting the CMOS seemed to help. That or removing the battery altogether (its soldered to the board), but I dont think Im doing it right. Can someone give me directions on that?

or is this just a lost cause? :-/

Hi, If you're installing to a gpt drive, try creating the installation media again using MBR for UEFI computers - FAT32. Also, I'd definetely make sure to insert the installation flash drive when the machine is on and then power it off via the power button - hold it down for 15 seconds just to ensure the machine has powered down.  Then tap away at the esc key as soon as you power on, select the Boot Manager ( f9 ) option and see if the flash drive is now listed. Regards, DP-K

Hi nikar15 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number? Check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential.
Was it previously on Win8.1 ? Did you manage to create a recovery media ?

It would have to power drain the machine by removing the charger , battery and harddrive and to press and hold down the power for 12 seconds.

Without the harddrive and battery , try going to the BIOS by FN + F2 or use the Novo button to start. If you manage to get the BIOS set up screen , go to the Exit Tab and load optimal defaults and save and exit. Turn off and put back the battery and harddrive and check.

Update us how things go.

Hello, I recently bought a Lenovo z50-75. A few hours ago I wanted to update my bios. It was updating and suddenly the laptop restarted and there was just a black screen. I could hear the fans running, but the keyboard doesnt work because if I press Caps Lock the light won't turn on. I searched on google and there I found some solutions (with pressing keys, removing battery, etc.), but none seemed to work.I also found something about the CMOS battery. I opened my laptop but I couldn't seem to find it. What can I do now?  Best regards, Max

A:Lenovo Z50-75 bios update failed > black screen

Welcome to the Lenovo Community Max !

From viewing your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual there is a motherboard CMOS battery.  Unfortunately from the illustrations in the manual it would appear that the CMOS battery on the Z50-70 is soldered directly to the motherboard and can not be easily removed.  In that case try removing the main battery pack again and then press the power button for 60 seconds or longer.  Hopefully the CMOS battery will not be able to keep up with the power drain and will clear the CMOS.  Then reinstall the main battery pack and try powering it up.

For your reference, here is a link to the Hardware Maintenance Manual......

If that doesn't resolve the problem then I recommend you contact Lenovo Support for additional warranty service.

HelloIn a couple of weeks I want to install fedora 24 on my Lenovo y50-70, but I don't want to have problems again with secureboot. The problem I had when I installed fedora 23 (or any other Linux) is that I can't put off secureboot, every time I disable secureboot in BIOS it automatically sets it back to enable (I save of course) so I installed fedora 23 with secureboot, the problems were slow start-ups and a lot of problems with virtualization (the problem is secureboot, I have enabled virtualization in BIOS). I know now how to fix virtualization with secureboot, so that's not my question. My question is could I flash the firmware to something different where secureboot is off or not there? Or anyone has a solution how I can put off secureboot completely?A second question is do I lose performance when I don't install my OS in UEFI? So in BIOS mode. I have read some articles some say not, some say it depends.Thank you for reading my postGreetingsGraham

I'm horrible with computers so I don't really know anything about my computer except that it's a Dell Dimension E521 and has Vista Home Premium..

My problem is that when I start my computer, after the BIOS loads and where it would normally go to a log in screen it just stays a blank screen (no cursor or anything.) I tried loading it in safe mode and it just freezes at "crcdisk.sys" and I also tried using system restore which says "the disc OS (c:) has errors) and tries to repair it (to no avail.) I also tried the "Repair Your Computer" thing and left that running for about 12 hours and that didn't do anything and so I finally tried to reinstall Vista but I couldn't even do that (the disc loads and lets me click install but it freezes after that.)

I guess I should say when my problem started.. I clicked a youtube link and then some error came up saying (I don't remember but it did say something about C (not the disk but the code)) well after that error Firefox froze so I tried closing it (through the task manager) but it just said access denied so I tried to restart my computer but explorer was frozen so I had no choice but to use the power button after which my problem started..

Also in the system settings error log it says there's a POST error Keyboard error every time I try to restart my computer..

My computer has been running normally for quite a while now. Just the other day though, it started having a weird problem. I will turn it on, it will load the BIOS screen, then it will dislpay a blank screen for about 10 seconds before loading Windows XP. Windows loads normally and works fine after that. I think that this problem may have started after I installed and then uninstalled Dameon Tools, but I am not sure; that's just an idea.

Hi everyone. Please help out here. I have an HP Pavilion G6-1d40ca. It crashed the other day while I was using it, and when I restarted it, it went to BIOS update. It froze while updating, and died in itself (I think the battery died, it wasn't plugged in. I never knew about BIOS update, so I wasn't expecting for the battery to die during the update, so I didn't plug it in.) Second time, booted it up (it was plugged in this time), and went into BIOS update once again. All's good, was able to use the laptop for about five minutes, then it crashed once again. Now, when I boot it up, nothing comes up on the screen. No nothing. The power button is on, the wi-fi is on, the LED light is blinking non-stop, more than 6 times than what is referred to the HP website.

I tried doing the remove battery and adapter, press power button for 30 seconds, plug it in without the battery, but to no avail. I also did the whole win+B, but doesn't work either. I tried pressing f11, but nothing comes up on the screen. I don't remember where I put the recovery discs that came with the laptop. I thought I put it on the box together with recovery discs for our other computers at home, but I guess I didn't. The thing is, I don't know where to begin, since I don't have anything on the screen itself. Not even a start-up logo or something.

I only had this laptop for about 3 months, and looking at the other threads, it might be a hard drive failure problem. I could return it to HP, but was just wonderi... Read more

Did you run a BIOS update, because it wouldn't restart into one. What exactly did the screen say that made you think it was a BIOS update being done without running it yourself (unheard of).

What LED light is blinking nonstop?

Can you boot into HP Factory Recovery: HP Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using HP Recovery - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

You can try these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot which will tell you if you can boot a disk to do repairs. If so besides links to the Win7 installer to use for repairs, there are also links to HD and RAM bootable CD tests to check your hardware.

But if this cannot get traction quickly what I would do with such a new rig is call HP Tech Support and have them walk you through steps to determine if it should be returned or if there is a known issue.

Hi,  I have an HP Envy 23-d010ea, which doesn't boot - at all. It switches on when pushing the power button, and doesn't react to any input, then restarts after about 60 seconds or so. I've read many posts addressing this issue, and tried all the proposed solutions. In particular I've tried- different keyboards, it's own, and others connected through USB - all USB slots. (btw not one LED switches nor flashes on the keyboard!)- hard reset (15 seconds power button while having disconnected everything).- switching it on with Windows button+B pushed down, in order to restore a previous BIOS, in case it's corrupted. Everything has failed. Can I mention that Windows 10 was recently installed (upgrade) on this machine, and I was merely doing a restart, aiming at reinstalling Windows 7 on it from scratch.  Please Help!Appreciate all the input. Many Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I have a Dell XPS 17 L702x that I was prepping to sell.  The basic specs are:
Intel i7-2760QM
16GB of RAM (4GB x4)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M with 1080p 3D screen
500GB 7200 RPM HDD x2
A19 BIOS
Windows 10 Pro
Like I said, I was prepping to sell the laptop.  The laptop was functioning properly.  I had wiped the HDDs clean and was in the middle of performing a clean install of Windows 10 pro from a USB drive.  I have done this before and never had a problem.  The install started correctly. I selected the drive that I wanted, and the installer wrote the files to the drive.  The laptop then restarted.  The power came back on, the fan started up, and I could hear the optical drive and HDDs spin up.  However, the screen stayed blank/black, and the Dell splash screen never appeared.  The activity light on the USB drive never comes on.  The normal functions keys do nothing.
Here are some troubleshooting things that I have tried:
I removed the RAM and HDDs.  I get the typical 2 beeps from not having any RAM.  Motherboard seem ok.
I have tested the RAM in my work Latitude E6430.  The E6430 will boot with the RAM from the L702x.  The RAM seems ok.
I have tested each stick of RAM one at a time in various slots in the L702x.  Same problem, blank screen, and no beeps.
I have connected the HDDs to the E6430 with a SATA to USB cable.  I can format and read/write from/to the HDDs.  The HDDs seem ok.

Hi guys,

Need your input on this.

Yesterday, while I was using my PC, the screen suddenly went black, and tried to 'restart' itself - ie it would go black, and turn on again, but there's no image, so it would go black again. After a while it would freeze and I would have to do a hard reboot.

It rebooted normally and I could use it again - for a few hours. This time, the same thing happened, except that at the BIOS screen, there were graphical anomalies (Checkered boxes with vertical lines) on the screen. This went on to the Windows XP boot up screen (the one with the progress bar), and then the blue login screen. The blue login screen was in fact blank without the Windows XP font in the middle.

However as soon as it got to my desktop, it would freeze and the same screen-blank-and-restart (forgive me for lack of a better term) thing would start looping again. Basically I cannot boot up Windows.

At first I thought it was an overheat issue so I let it to cool down for a few hours before turning it back on - but to no avail.

I did some searching on the net then and tried the following:

My laptop was working fine while i was playing (league of legends to be exact) when suddenly my fps went down greatly then i found out the problem was my laptop was running on 800MHz (using realtemp) and won't go up. I could not find the problem much less the solution. When i couldn't find anything i tried the one key recovery to revert to factory settings, but still the problem persisted. I found on the net that most people with this problem used throttle stop so i did too. It was working fine but then my charger broke (my battery is dead too, broke around a week or two before my charger). I thought that my charger was causing the throttling because my laptop worked great again after buying a new charger. But that lasted only for a day. It is now throttling again at 800MHz. I am afraid that something will break again but i can't seem to find the problem. temperature is consistently around 40-60 degrees C. I hope someone knows or previously had this problem that found a solution. or at least knows exactly what the problem is. A few days ago I had some problems with my HDD so I brought a new one.  To install Windows in the new drive I plugged in the DVD drive that Lenovo ships with the laptop and tried to boot from it. That failed and BIOS got like "programmed" or stuck with configurations that doesn't let it recognise any boot media no matter if it is a USB stick or HDD, no matter if I try to change the configuration of the BIOS it would always get back to the initial state of not being able to boot I even tried to reset it by unplugging its battery and the laptop battery but the only thing that happens is system time starting from 0 while any other configuration stays the same.  I thought this could be fixed using crisis recovery mode, but the laptop doesn't recognise the BIOS loaded on the USB and never make any sort of beep or alert noises, the screen doesn't show anything either and fans just get to 100% I really need help to solve this problem, it's like the BIOS got stuck in the last configurations before plugging the DVD drive in. (The Boot menu still showing that there's a USB booteable device even when it is not plugged in).

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

I have had my Lenovo IdeaPad Z410 since around January, and I have just recently expierienced the problem of the battery dropping to zero. What happens is my battery will be draining at a normal pace then all of a sudden my laptop will shut down and will not go back on as it thinks the battery is dead. If it is plugged when this happens then the orange battery low light will begin flashing and the message goes from saying "Fully charged (100%)" to "1% remaining (plugged in, charging)". This is quite annoying as I cannot take my laptop anywhere without fear of it randomly dying on me. I would assume I wouldn't need a new battery after only having the laptop for a few months. Also, if you are not familiar with this model, the battery is built in internally so I cannot try removing it and putting it back in myself. Any advice would be appreciated; I'd rather not deal with Lenovo's customer support unless I absolutely have to.

A:Lenovo IdeaPad Z410 Battery Suddenly Drops From 100% to 0%

hi LordMothim,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Based from your findings, it's possible that:
- the battery circuit inside is not working to unload the charge, or
- one of the battery cells have already reached its life span
- the chip that handles how the battery gets charge/discharge and checks the charge level of each battery cell (both are controlled by a firmware) is malfunctioning.

Batteries degrade overtime due to heat and daily use. If you're still under warranty, I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you most likely need a replacement battery.

V200 I can easily find but that does not help when its a bios for V100 I need! Hope someone can fix this and link to the correct page for drivers and bios updates. Thank you in advance JBJ

I was updating some drivers today, and the Lenovo system scanner recommended that I install the Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 700 Scalar Fonts Improvement Firmware.  Big mistake.  After rebooting, the screen remains blank no matter what.  I can hook the computer up to an external TV via HDMI, and the computer works (even the touchscreen!), but I can't get anything to display on the screen.   I confirmed that I used the B5 version of the firmware for the 24" screen, and I have tried reinstalling several times, but to no avail.  I have also updated the graphics drivers and tried rolling back Windows 10 to a previous restore point, but nothing seems to work.  Any recommendations? Thanks,Rob

Hello. i must apologise for not scripting the text off my pc correctly as my keyboard is malmunctioning

Can not get my into windows proper.

This is a new build with new hdd.

Using xp pro sp2

I have followed links to microsoft to fix this. But I have the same problem still.

I think that if you can guide me through a rewrite of the boot.ini file I might be in business.

I have no floppy and only an orriganl sys tem builders edition of xp pro sp2.

how can I rewrite in dos,, it has been over 18 years since I have this.

A:Invalid boot.ini file ,,..NTDETECT failed

I assume you've tried this:? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330184

or

You'll have to use the XP cd. Select the option to repair, but make it go into "Recovery Console mode." From there, you can bring up a help menu by typing help or a question mark (?). You're only interested in two commands in the list called "fixboot" and "fixmbr."

You want to run "fixboot" first, then exiting the Recovery Console and seeing if that fixes your issue. If not, retrace your steps back to the Recovery Console and run "fixmbr." You shouldn't have to run "fixmbr," but there is always a possibility.

Tried to install the correct scalar fonts improvemen firmware for my AIO 700-27ISH. I mistakenly though it installed properly, but apparently it did not. When I rebooted, the screen when completely blank. Repeated attempts to reinstall as administrator have been fruitless-it shows 0% install and then goes blank. Can the display be recovered?? If yes, how?

I'm having the exact problem as Eric above but the instructions provided from Microsoft's tech support does not solve my problem. I bought a brand new Hp DV9608nr and removed Vista because it was too much for the specs of the laptop. I installed Windows XP Professional and upon rebooting, got the error:

Invalid BOOT.INI file
Booting from c:\windows\
NTDETECT failed

Like I said, I preformed the instructions step-by-step listed here:

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=k...30184&x=7&y=16

But, when I reboot the computer, it still gives me the error and runs the reboot process repeatedly.

Any thoughts?

Hi and welcome to TSF.
I wonder if you've got traces of Vista left. Did you reformat before installing XP?
