Nvidia Geforce 7800GS 512Mb Gainward not getting power

Q: Nvidia Geforce 7800GS 512Mb Gainward not getting power

the card after playing a game for a bit claims its not getting enough power so lowers its performance and makes any newish game unplayable. i replaced the psu and the problem remains. please tell me it isnt broken its reasonably new and i just upgraded my whole system around it

Preferred Solution: Nvidia Geforce 7800GS 512Mb Gainward not getting power

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i recently upgraded my Gainward Geforce FX5700 Ultra to a Gainward BLISS 7800GS+. i was fully expecting my new card to require its own power but the adapter that Gainward sent to me to change the molex plug into a 6pin plug allows for 2 molex plugs to be plugged in....
does this mean the card needs 2 power plugs? i currently have it running with 1 plugged in, what would happen if i plugged another into it? (or should this just not be done?!?)

any help would be nice on this....before the urge to plug another molex plug becomes too strong and i damage the card

Many Thanks

I keep getting the following message on power-up:-

Your Nvidia graphics card is not receiving sufficient power. As a result the graphics card has lowered its performance to a level that allows continued safe operation.

My system specs are as follows

Gainward BLISS 7800GS AGP
Driver date 07/10/2008
Driver version

M/B Asus A7N8X 2.0 Deluxe with XP2500

2 x1mb sticks OCZ PC3200 ram

500 watt OCZ Stealth X Stream psu

Ok it?s not the newest system in the world?haha?but it does me.

The psu is brand new and I got the same message on a Hiper 580 psu.

Any ideas. I?ve searched the web but could not find a single answer that was specific to my problem without the psu being at fault.

ps..The card is connected direct to the psu via a 6 pin connector.

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if the 512 MB nvidia geforce 8500GT was a good card? Basically I want to know if it will run the sims 2 better then my nvidia 6150? I think the answer is obvious, but I just want to see if upgrading to the 8500 is worth the investment.

I presonally would go for the nVidia 9600gt for light gaming.

A:Nvidia GeForce GT 200 1Gb only showing 512mb!!

im fairly sure the gt200 uses shared memory, same as the gt 250 in my macbook. which means it will use 512mb all day long and then take the rest from your ram when it needs it.

either way 512mb or 1gb its not going to make much of a difference in terms of performance. the rest of the cards spec are the real bottleneck

I want to ask some of you that have knowledge in graphic cards if this card will run with my system. Currently I have a Radeon 9800 SE 128 bit edition and for even simple graphic games like Fifa 08 or NHL 08 it lags in either offline or online multiplayer mode. So I'm considering getting a NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT 512MB. I Wouldn't mind personal choices for alternatives in the same price range. Thanks.

With some help from www.crucial.com it appears your pc has an agp x8 graphics port. So far I have only found the NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT 512MB in pci-e format.

If you have the proper slot for it,it should.
Low profile cards are made for slim cases,

I need help. My laptop has died on me. Toshiba Statellite/Satego X 200 Serie

When I try and start it Power comes on the harddisk light glows for a milli sec and then gooes out the DVD light is on but I cannot open the DVD player, you hear no fans working, It makes not difference if Itry and start it with the batterie or take the batterie out and use the power cable, the screen stays black. I tried a restart (I took the battrie out and pressed the start butten for 1 min) still nothing.

I finaly took it to a comp shop they think (why I am I paying??) it could be the graphic card ( costs about 300,00 Euros) or the mainboard or??
NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT SLI 512MB which is in a Satellite /satego x200 does anybody know where this sits in the laptop?

can I get at
it by taking the back off or do I have to take the whole laptop apart.
Thx for any help

Yes, it could be an graphic card issue.
In such case the whole motherboard needs to be replaced.
And you are right; new motherboards are expensive notebook parts? a new parts cost around 300Euros?
So what to say? it?s your personal decision? maybe you could get an second hand goo mobo from internet?

I have an old Dell Dimension 8300 in which the original Radeon 9800Pro had burned out. I purchased a BFG Geforce 7800GS OC and a BFG 450watt PSU with which to run it. I have installed the new PSU and it works fine but when I connect the 7800GS, the computer starts to boot but I get no picture to the monitor. I suspect that it is an incompatibility issue between the PC and the graphics card, does anyone have any suggestions as to how it can be resolved, BFG tech support have been quite unhelpful, they tried to convince me that I needed to disable the embedded display adapter in the device manager, but it only shows whatever is connected through the AGP slot, no embedded display adapter is present.

A:Dell Dimension 8300 with Geforce 7800GS OC

These old Dells were very picky about what hardware is installed in them. Does this 8300 have a VGA connector on the motherboard near the Mouse/Keyboard connectors? If so, it does have on-board video. If the old 9800 was AGP, the motherboard video settings should be ok. Check to make sure that you have connected the power supply to the 7800 if it has a power connector on it... Then try another video card. The BFG might be defective

Hello! I don't know which one is worth it, a lot of people prefer nvidia but I always used ATI and worked great, i want to give it a try to nvidia but I was confused with the brands, BGF, PNY, eVGA, XFX, MSI, wolfram recommended this last one but can't find where to buy, I was also reading about the next gen of DX10 video cards because I want to wait and buy one of these but I guess there's gonna take a while for this to become affordable and also compatible. My question is which one of this video cards are better? and which one will provide longer gaming support for actual and future games, I'm getting tired of the low perf of my 9600XT, thank you! BTW my specs:

MOBO ASUS P4P800E-Deluxe
P4 HT 3.4 Ghz 3GB PC3200-DDR RAM

The best future-proof video card would be the 7800GS. The Nvidia Geforce 7 series are more updated than ATI's X800 series.

Hi all,

I recently upgraded my graphics card from a radeon pro to a nvidia 7800gs (agp). My monitor is a Sony X-black HS74P. Everything is fine with the display (desktop icons, wallpaper, games, bmp's, etc.) but viewing text is a bit of an issue. Whether it be in notepad etc. or viewing a webpage, written text seems to be blurred eithier at the top or bottom of every letter of text. It's difficult to explain exactly but it seems to either merge in with the background colour or have a double thickness of pixels at the top or bottom of each letter of text.
This has left me a bit puzzled as everything alse about the on-screen display is perfect. Could it be a refresh issue (60Hz), a driver issue (nvdia 81.98 Forceware) or something else?
Any help would be very appreciated!
Thanks, Pete.

After claiming warranty on my BLISS 9800GTX+ , and after approximatly a month till they accepted to give me a new one, this new Geforce 9800GTX+ came in a new box, and doesnt mention the name "BLISS" anywhere on it, it is smaller and lighter in size.

What confused me is that i cant figure out how to plug it to my Power Supply, the box says to use "1 6PIN Connector" , and the package provides one 6PIN cable, but the graphic card itself has Two available slots for 6PIN cables, now what to do ?

My power supply has couple of 6PIN Cables already by default, should I plug TWO of those 6PIN into the card, or just ONE ? Or should i simply plug 1 using the 1x6PIN cable that splits into 2 Molex, the last one is provided in the box. So what to do ? :S

A 350W PSU is going to be underpowered for a 660, the minimum requirement for a reference card is a 450W with 24a on the 12V rail. I'd recommend looking at upgrading your PSU as soon as possible, ideally go for a 550W to give yourself some headroom and look for a good quality PSU, my personal recommendation is always Corsair.

I'm using 2 because I made an earlier post about this and screwed up a detail, and I feel like nobody will even notice that thread.

So, I got a GTX 660 GPU to replace my dead ATI Radeon HD 5770. I have a 600W Diablotek PSU, but every other time I start my computer and open Chrome, my computer shuts off then restarts. When I play a game, it runs fine for ~10 minutes, then my computer shuts off and restarts.

I made a mistake in my last thread saying my PSU was 350W, so I bought a new 530W power supply to replace it. I took out the old one, and the out-of-view label said it was a 600W PSU. So I put it back in, sent back the 530W PSU, and bought a cheaper 700W PSU that was on sale. I still want to know why this is happening in the first place though.

A:EVGA Nvidia 7800GS - DVI to HDMI sound

no, the sound will not be carried through the DVI connection. if you were using a direct HDMI output on the card it would work (if the sound had audio processing) but only the video will be carried (i.e. DVI does not support sound)

Hey guys,

I have an unusual situation and I'm hoping it might be something that just got goofed up from playing Battlefield 2 a week ago.

Basically, I was just running the game using an AGP nVidia 6600GT card from ASUS and the game and system locked up completely. I rebooted and I believe at this point I lost the use of the DVI on my monitor.

My first thing to do was see if my video card got fried, so I bought a nVidia 7800GS. Although this did not allow me to use the DVI, I did verify the video card was not the issue.

Bought a new DVI cord, still not the problem..

Unplugged the monitor and let it sit to "reset" itself. It still works fine on VGA, but not DVI

I next updated the motherboard BIOS and downloaded the newest drivers for my new card. Nothing is helping the situation at this point...

I can say that the system will not identify my monitor, where before it would actually list my particular monitor brand and model number. I'm not sure if this is because the VGA connection does not carry information and DVI does...the biggest issue is that because of this, I do not get XP offering me the widescreen resolutions (I cheated by making a custom resolution for the system, but it does not allow me to get widescreen resolutions in games that would otherwise offer these options).

Ok, so I've given as much info as I can and now I'm hoping that someone will tell me that there is an option that I've ... Read more

A:Replace 512MB GeForce 7950 GT

As long as the power supply is up to it as the 550 Ti uses more power than the 7950, it's as easy as,

1. Uninstall the current driver and power down.

2. Remove the old card and put in the new.

3. Boot up and install the driver for the new card (latest from Nvidia and not what is on the disk).

If the power supply isn't up to it ( a good quality 500W or higher), then you will also have to get a new power supply.

The fan will cool better, but is subject to failure and creates additional noise. The fan is pointless if the case does not have proper airflow. Well designed case airflow will emulate a fan on the dissipator.

If you do not stress the graphics card, it makes little difference.

I just wanted to share with anyone my experience with Windows 7. I couldn't get my GeForce 6200 to run Windows Aero in Windows 7. Every driver installed in fact didn't even get my GPU to start.

Thanks to a tip by "johngalt" I used DriverMax to save the working driver in Vista and brought it over to Seven.

I used an older driver to have complete Aero experience (beware: one driver I had gave me clear windows but no clear taskbar, make sure you have complete aero). However Vista updated and Aero stopped working. So I rolled back to a driver from 8/22/2006, I used DriverMax to export it, moved the DriverMax installation and driver exported file to my Seven partition and restarted.

I booted into Seven, installed DriverMax, registered, and then imported my Nvidia driver. Took 30 secs. After a reboot, I went into System Solutions Center and did the Aero Theme Wizard. It evaluated my GPU and Windows Aero popped up in all it's glory. It really does make a difference. It sets the mood. I don't know what it is about it. I like really fancy and appealing GUIs, and aero is the best by far. It's neat, clean, and gorgeous.

If there is anyone running the same or similar card, or having a similar problem, I will gladly make a step by step tutorial.

Hi all,

First post here, so let me know if i miss anything or there's anything i need to do.

Received my new Asus Geforce 8800GTS 512mb (65nm) TOP Edition card through the mail at the start of this week (Monday 21st January). First time i put it in i ballsed up the drivers, and installed the card before uninstalling the old drivers, ended up locked out of XP Professional (32bit) and so had to format.

Formatted C: Drive, reinstalled windows, all with new card installed. Ended up getting lots of BSODs, though NOT when playing games. These BSODs were coming up generally when idling in windows desktop, or running something minor like windows live messenger, nero, or other minor software like that. The most frequent BSOD was Windows Event ID 1003, Error code 0000000a = "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". Unfortunately i don't have a minidump of this with me on this computer, but should be able to get hold of one later.

Anyway, i took this card out after about 14 formats in a different pattern each time. Put my old Asus 7900GT TOP back in, all was running fine until i started getting the BSOD "PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA", referencing the file win32k.sys, which now reoccurs every so often. My old card has never had any problems with BSODS, and nothing else in my hardware has changed recently.

It's annoying because the new 8800 card actually WORKS brilliantly when i'm in games, it runs things like crysis smoothly without AA on high graphics. B... Read more

I personally think you'd be better off getting a Geforce 8400GS, or ATi HD4350, or Geforce 210GT for that kind of money. I've no idea which is better of the three, but they're all under 50 bucks.

I would have recommended the HD4670 if it wasn't over 100 bucks, which is shocking given the price I paid for it here in the UK a year ago!

im afraid i cant view the link.....

but if your currently running onboard GFX, & you have an empty AGP slot.....it should be fine.

i'd certainly look into getting more system RAM though, an extra gig will help no end...

Hello everyone..

I am lookin for updated driver for this graphic card for windows ultimate 64bit.

I also got a problem with unsupported display when I connect my laptop DELL D820 to my plazma tv 42" if someone encounter this problem before and know how to fix are welcome to share.

All help is needed

A:Nvidia Quardo NVS 120M 512MB

Hi Reverence,

From what I read on that card, it's designed for 2d business not 3d applications. Might be why it's not working well with the 42". ?????

Here's a site I found reference for Vista and the Quardo NVS 120M on a Dell D820. For information purposes:

Now, here's your driver download link: (click on the Driver (in black at top) to dowload)
Note: If Vista installed a generic driver for it, it might be better than this one. You can always try then uninstall if you don't like it.

Hope this helps,

Hello, everyone, i had a question in mind for a very long time, and i tried to search many websites, but failed to find the answer. I need settings for over-clocking my GPU, i have every tool i need to over-clock the GPU. However i do not know the perfect settings which it would be able to take. So my question is' What are the settings for my graphics card to be at optimum.

Thanks in advance

A:Overclocking GPU - PNY Nvidia 9500GT 512MB

Current Settings are the following:

Core Clock: 550
Shader Clock: 1350
Memory Clock: 550
Fan Speed: 50
I'm thinking to set the settings to:
Core Clock: 730
Shader Clock: 1790
Memory Clock: 590
Fan: 50 (Normal)

Hey, Im new to building pc's. I am currently building a pc which will have a athlon 64fx57 cpu and an asus a8n32 motherboard. I am going to do sli so I was wondering what video cards to get. Also, any recomendations would be welcomed gladly. Thanks a lot.

A:GeForce 7800gtx 512mb or GeForce 7800gtx 256mb

welcome to Techspot.

I heard the A8N32 arent so good at handling two video cards running in X16 SLI
I cant find the thread where someone posted the reasons why. might wanna google around first and read some reviews of the chosen motherboard.

also it might be better value to run two 7800GTs on SLI isntead of two GTX's on sli as the performance increase going from on GTX to two isnt prolly much

Hello everyone!

Up to 2 months ago I was using an old 4MB Matrox Millenium PCI graphics card in my system, and I thought it was time to upgrade. I thus bought this (inexpensive) Nvidia-based Graphics [TwinTech GeForce 7600 512MB AGP8x ] card since I installed in it my PC, I started having the following problem:

1. 50% of the times I try to boot, before the POST routines come up, the BIOS beeps the error code "No Graphics Card Present" with the screen not even displaying the Graphic card's message (Serial number, Graphics BIOS etc)

2. The other 50% of the times I try to boot my system, see the Windows XP boot screen (with the scrolling lights) and just before I see the Blue Logon Screen of Windows XP the screen either goes blank (with some HD activity) OR the system hangs (the mouse pointer stops responding). This case 2 scenario happens 90% of the times I manage to get past the pre-POST error codes. In order to reboot the system without the chance to fall into scenarion 1, i press the reset button on the tower case.

I have tried modifying EVERY possible BIOS setting (and this QDI has many options to fiddle with), but no difference. There can be a whole month where I can boot 1 out of ten times successfully, and there can be 5 days in a row where I can boot without ANY problem (i.e. no pre-POST beeps and no hanging in the Windows logon screen).

I should note the following:

Hi, and welcome to techspot! Try moving the pci devices as far away from the agp card as possible. Also, try taking the card out and blowing in the agp slot in case there is dust in there.

Hello, I am buying a new computer, both with about equal specs and equal prices. The only thing I am wondering about are the video cards. One has a ATI HD 3650 512MB and one has a Nvidia 256MB 8600GT. Im just curious because I dont follow ATI cards, and I want to know if im making a good decision. This computer will be used for Counter-Strike:Source and possibly other graphicly intense games.

Thank you, Armen

Hello people, this is my first post here, I was wondering should I change my 2x ATI radeon hd 4850 for 2x Nvidia 9800. I hear a lot of good things about Nvidia cards albeit i've only ever used ATI.

A:2x ATI Radeon HD 4850 or 2 x Nvidia 9800GT 512MB SLI

No real difference for most uses... unless you are a gamer or a designer or a photo editor.

Hello guys, so I've had this video card for awhile now but it's been really buggy. The main reason is because the disc that came with it (the exact one shown here http://e-techsiliconvalley.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3966) had some kind of indention on it preventing from being read at all. I tried using drivers of all sorts on the nvidia and EVGA site and all of them end up in failure. As in, the screen stays blank right before the Windows welcome screen or everything loads up but when scrolling, the screen lags and doesn't move to the next frame smoothly.

So can someone point me in the right direction for drivers or some other kind of fix I'm not seeing?

A:EVGA Nvidia 7600GT 512MB AGP Driver

You might have the right drivers, just the wrong settings. If the screen is blank until windows loads, then the onboard video card is still enabled. You can probably disable it in the bios. As for the scrolling....What is your refresh rate set to? Right click > Settings tab > advanced > monitor. If it's at 60 try changing it to 70 or vice versa.

I was looking at the EVGA Nvidia 7950GT KO 512MB GDDR3 for my Dell 8400.

But it comes with a 6 pin power cord, how come?

Shouldnt I be able to slap this into the PCI-E slot and be good to go?

A:EVGA Nvidia 7950GT KO 512MB GDDR3

Nope, it needs extra power. PCIe can only supply 65W (I think...) the card requires more than that.

I'm not a gamer, but rather an enthusiastic net surfer and would like my present graphics card to be as fast as easily possible. To do this, it has been suggested that I update my card's driver with downloading/installing Nvidia's latest driver (285.62 WHQL, Win7 64-bit...4G RAM, Firefox 9). Would this be the the right thing to do?

O... Here's my dillema.   My HP NVIDIA card (HP p/n 466762-001 rev:M03) in my HP Model: 9520f Windows 7 Ultimate machine failed.   I replaced it with an ASUS NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT card (p/n 5188-8004, asus p/n C403H) that came from a spare HP Pavillion Model a6150y Vista machine I had on hand. The initial VID/Graphics card failure and susequent replacement caused much havock with Windows and some other stuff (ie, not booting/loading Windows etc...) and after much effort I was able to get everything loading & working reasonable well again.   But the problem I'm still having is with the old drivers (removing them and all their remnants) and loading the new drivers for the ASUS NVIDIA card that is now in my machine.  I've tried normal uninstalls as well as the GURU 3D.com DDU uninstall.  I think (and it appeares) that all the old NVIDIA drvers and other software has been uninstalled because I can not find any of it in the normal locations.   But I am still unable to install the NVIDIA 8500GT drivers for the ASUS card from the NVIDIA site or even the NVIDIA drivers/software updates that Windows Update has detected and suggested in Windows updates.  The insalls start out fine but soon fail to complete. Evidently I (and my brother who was in my machine remotely for a good 6 hours because he is an IT/Computer tech and is ten times more knowledgable than I on this) are missing something very... Mermiatwd, welcome to the forum. I suggest that you try Revo Uninstaller free version to see if it solves you problem.  I use the Advanced option.  It removes the program from the HDD and the remnants from the BIOS.  I have used it for years with great success with removing those difficult to remove programs. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.
