Q: default monitor settings

Is there a way to rest the pc monitor to default settings?

Preferred Solution: default monitor settings

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So, I turned on my computer, and for some reason... everything seemed larger. Well, not larger, per-say. The Start button and time jutting off of the screen. Nothing seemed noticably 'larger', and it was all proportional to eachother (just not the screen).
Anyways, I tried fixing this through the Control Panel and manual Monitor controlls (yay spinny wheel!), but now everything seems awkwardly sqwished.
How can I set all of my Display and Monitor settings back to their Defaults? I'm sure I can figure it out better from there than here <.<
Also, any idea what my have caused my display settings to randomly change in the first place?
It's Windows 2000, by the way.

It's so amazingly hard to find answers to questions like this, I swear. For something so simple, I've spent an hour searching on assorted help/FAQ sites, posting on other sites (which are slow, to say the least >.>) before I resorted to creating an account here specifically for this question... I hate computers.

A:Setting Display/Monitor Settings To Default

Right click on your desktop, select properties, settings, then play with the slider until you get the desired aspect ratio. Try 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768.

Is there a way to force Windows to use the default monitor settings as used in Safe Mode, but when running in normal mode?
My Nvidia GE 6100 graphics began scrambling the screen. Safe mode works ok, but on normal startup, the screen is scrambled or goes fuzzy and everything freezes. I think it's a hardware problem (it started after I added memory) but I want to keep running until it can be fixed. I have updated the drivers but it did not change anything. I tried deleting the Nvidia driver, but Windows keeps finding more.

A:Using Safe Mode default monitor settings

When first boot up hit F8 right after the BIOS screen and choose "low resolution video mode" if it still scrambles the screen it may be a hardware issue with the RAM. I can't remember if it's a laptop card or a desktop card or both.. anyways, If you can get to the device manager quick enough uninstall the video card and choose "delete the driver software" when the dialog box pops up to prompt if you want to delete the driver. This should force windows to use the default VGA driver and then you can download the latest one, relatively speaking, from nVidias site. I would do this while the new RAM you added is out. Once you get the drivers updated plug in the new ram and see if the issues happens again. If it does, get different ram or get all new ram of equal types. I have seen Integrated GPUs freak out over different types(speeds)/sizes of ram..

Has that particular monitor ever worked correctly on that particular computer and video controller? If so, have you installed or changed any hardware or software?

Hi,
Yeah, you may think this seems like just a normal message from oc'ing too much, but a problem-I haven't overclocked anything! It booted to that point, then my hard drive went mad clicking and crashed. This was after it being turned on and off to see if my graphics card was booting because I had no video, but it turned out I had just been downright stupid and plugged it into the onboard graphics. Anyone know what could have happened? Thanks

P.S. would the power drawing thing (molex on my case fan) need to have a seperate connector or just draw power from another device? Thanks.

A:'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

If this happens just once then I wouldn't worry about it too much but the PSU or HDD could have something to do with it.

You can connect a molex connector fan to its own power connector or you can put it on an optical drive's connector for example, but it's ok to do either as they don't use much power.

(windows 7) I accidentally messed up the security settings in the "Default Folder" (a shortcut?) of the Users folder.
I removed administrators permissions , that caused my pc to be unable to restore to previous restore point correctly. However, I was able to re-add the admin permission and everything now is fine.
Yet I need help here.
1 could anyone post screenshots of the default "default folder" security settings? I need to set it back to the default one even though now it works fine.
2 why the hell does that folder NOT HIDDEN? Are yours not hidden as well? Of course the option to hide all system file is checked on my pc. The only reason I messed with that folder is because I thought it was just a normal folder and not a system folder. Anyway to get it back to be invisible?
Thanks for helps in advanced. And I don't want to go to Microsoft supports because they always give robotic replies with no helps at all.

Hi Everybody!! I recently messed up real bad. I was playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 for PC. And I went into the documents folder to try to delete the last saved game. When I did I made a mistake and changed the folder with a GCF file in it to open the GCF files with adobe reader. Now I can't figure out what program it originally was suppose to open with. So my question is: How do I change the GCF file folder back to it's default settings so it will open with the program that it's suppose to open with?

A:Default Settings

Hello Wan, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If this helps, this is what I found for this:

Valve Corporation uses .GCF games cache files both with its Steam computer game online content delivery platform (used for downloading computer games and content from the Internet), and with its Source 3D game engine (used to render realistic 3D graphics in their games). Valve Corporation also developed the game Half-life (along with its sequels) and the .GCF files is sometimes specifically associated with this game, although it is entirely possible that .GCF might be generated by any of Valve Corporation's games..

If you have Half-Life or another Valve brand game, then reinstalling the game to repair it without uninstalling it should fix the file association also.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Can I change the default settings for Font and Font Size, and the Page Margins in WordPad and Microsoft Works 2000? If so, please tell me how. I am getting tired of having to manually change the settings every time I start a new document. Thank you, Robert

A:default settings

I don't believe this can be done in WordPad.

However, in Works:
Change Works Default Font
Selecting the default font in Microsoft Works is a simple matter. Open the MS Works word processor and in the menu bar to Format | Font | Style. Click on Font and Style and a dialog box pops up. In the dialog box, choose your font by highlighting it, then highlight the font size that you prefer. Select a color if you choose or leave the color on auto. Move to the right side of the dialog box and click on the Set Default button. This font choice will appear every time that you open Works. If you are changing the font for a single document only then click on the OK button. Click to expand...

and
Q. Every time I create a new document, I want it to follow a specific style, such as using default margin settings. How do I do this?

A. To specify custom settings that apply to each new document, you should create a blank document with those setting, and then save it as a template. To do this, use the instructions below:

Create a new document and apply any settings you want in your new documents. For example, if you want all new documents to have a .5-inch margin, apply that change in the Page Setup area.

On the File menu, click Save As.
Click Template.
Type a name for your template. To use this template for all new documents of that type, select Use This Template For All New Documents.
Click OK. Click to expand...

Using this second bit of advice, you can change both the font ... Read more

Everytime the computer is turned on all those programs still start up and the tool bar at the bottom is loaded with program icons.

Why do the programs keep going back to the default settings and how can i fix this.

There are ways to restore defaults to individual applications or OS components, but I am not aware of any "global default restore" capability. The closest I know of is with XP where you can roll-back the system to a previous checkpoint if the right options are enabled. But, there is even a problem here... if you don't know what you're doing you can "un-do" legitimate changes to the system. You may have better luck by figuring out how to use "permissions" to restrict what the users can and cannot update.

A little while ago my laptop began to have problems. The computer would turn on but when I entered in my password or did the fingerprint swipe log in, the screen would turn black and start dumping physical memory. The problems began when my battery went completely dead so I bought a new battery with no improvement. I was able to enter my desktop through Safe Mode before and after the battery replacement. I ran system diagnostics and the only problem that showed up was that my disc drive failed to read CDs and DVDs - an issue that I was aware of earlier and that I thought might be related to the power issues with the battery. Hello, have you researched this on the forum? Questions about this have been asked so often.. the forum is a useful resource tool.

Note that you cannot change defaults from within programs- true from Win 8 on.

Please see:

Have you tried by these means?

Also note that there are special instructions about Chrome which you can find which many have had difficulties with.

Note too that a couple of old version programs e.g. Winzip if installed have caused defaults to be reset on restart.

Hope that helps and points you in the right direction.

Hello, I'm new on SevenForums and I need to help.

So I launched the Command Prompt via Run, and the size was also 4?6.

I can show you screenshot of Properties window. (I'm using WindowsBlinds 8 with Mac skin, where active tab texture is same with inactive tab.)

How can I restore font size to 8?12?

You could try sfc /scannow and that would undo all changes/modifications, and then you could just reapply the settings in windows blinds and see if that helps.....maybe something went funky when applying the theme.

Hello, I am having trouble with pop-ups to the extreme, and I have tried using AVG Antispyware to remove them. Every time I scan with AVG I get the exact same Adware and I remove it but it doesnt remove, in any case it has got so annoying that I had decided to use system restore, allthough this was Jan 1st, and I could not go back in the calender, so there was no way to restore. Now I have decided to just restore my computer to complete default settings, Ive done it before, but that was when my computer wouldnt fully start and it came up with the option to restore. I have to clue how to restore to defaults otherwise, could someone kindly walk me through these steps? (I did read other posts on this topic but I did not find any of them solving my problem, for they all required the use of 'System Restore')

A:How to Restore to Default settings?

Well pending on what kind of computer you have and how new it is, when you first turn on your computer there will be a Recovery option, press applicable key and it should start a recovery, remember this deletes all your personal files and programs

I prefer to view details versus icons when I open a folder. I change the views to details but eventually, icons always return. Is there a way to change the default folder views to detail and have it stay that way?

A:Default view settings

Hi,
You may try this:

Open "My Computer", menu Tool/Folder Option, Under tab View, check "Remember each folder view setting"

It use to be when I would open something it would put icons on the task bar on the right hand side. It would only show two at a time and you could Click the arrow to scroll through. All of a sudden it stopped doing that and it adds them on the left and shows all the programs. Any ideas how to get it back?

A:Taskbar Default Settings.

Hi whilst working on a recent device set-up issue on Windows 8 - I have noticed some discrepancies on some of OS's in the registry and wondered if some of you could be kind enough to take a peek at your registry on Windows 8 and confirm a default Binary for me please:
Thanks so much
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE

DEVICE METADATA

Next to last item in tree: Prevent Device Metadata from Network - Binary Value does it read 0 or 1? If have conflicting issues here and someone with an unamended registry can perhaps tell me the default value please? This will assist me greatly - As I see different values on my Laptops I am now unsure of the default

I recently tried out a new .gif viewer for all of my joke email .gif's. It was kind of like a slideshow viewer. I didn't like it so I deleted it.

The problem now is that every time I go to view one of my .gif's in "My Document's" it tells me it cannot locate the program I deleted to open the .gif's. I think it may have taken over as default for my .mpg and other video files too.

I beleive that the way I used to view my .gif's was in a separate Internet Explorer window.

Is there any way I can change my settings back to the original default?

Please help .

I can't get my IE7 to keep web page settings (ie. my login settings for this forum) so I don't have to keep re-typing in my logins. It works on the new PC that I have at work. I am thinking about resetting the default settings. I checked the add-on list and it is pretty long. If I reset to defaults, it says that it is going to wipe them out. Will it automatically reload as needed or will it just further screw up my IE7.

A:Change Default Settings

When you open one or the other you should be told that it's not your default, and given the opportunity to change it.

I have noticed that my default setting in the Add/Remove Program are not staying as what I set them to be, thus I am having problems with the Windows Media Player not playing the downloads from Limewire or Ares. I have tried to rollback the system, nothing changes.
Am using Windows Live Onecare on my system as it is better than what Road Runner was offering for free (it didn't block viruses and had a mess cleaning them all out).
Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
