Having trouble downloading Windows 8.1

Q: Having trouble downloading Windows 8.1

While I was downloading Windows 8.1, I accidentally shut my laptop off (which it clearly states not to do during the download) and now I cant download 8.1

It used to give me an error code but now it just says "cannot download windows 8.1" or "your windows 8.1 download could not be completed" in the windows store.

I'm not a techy so English words would be much appreciated.

pls halp.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently bought a program online and while going to down load it it starts up fine but about half way through it stops and says a problem has caused the program to stop working. I have tried using chrome, internet explorer! Firefox. I even tried the fire fox download manager called download them all but always the same thing. I have tried restarting my computer and internet, disabling my antivirus, going direct into my modem instead of wireless. But nothing, I'm freaking out that I may have wasted 200 bucks. though when i try to download the game client via the link on the website, It always downloads as a .JAR file and everytime i click it, all it does is duplicate the file and put a (2) or a (3) next to it , depending on how many times i try it, It's getting very frustrating considering none of this stuff happens on windows 8 or mac.

I recently installed Windows 7 on my HTPC. I have installed all of the drivers for the motherboard and GPU. When I go to windows update I see that there are about 83 that I need to install. When I highlight and click install, the download never takes place but rather hangs and eventually gives me a message that says:

"Windows Modules Installer has stopped running"

Can anyone help me work this out before I have to reinstall the OS, reinstall the drives, partition the drives and all that fun and exciting stuff again?

I recently had to replace the HD in a Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows XP Pro SP3. I rebuilt the HD installing Windows, FireFox, Malwarebytes, and other needed software programs. I tried to download the printer driver for an HP printer which was 70 MBs. After restarting the download a few times I was finally able to get all of it. The client would like the HP software package as well which is 500+ MBs. When I attempt to download this file, about 25 MBs download and then then it stalls and times out. I have tried on different days but had the same result. The laptop is connected to the internet using Charter Spectum with an ethernet cable to the modem. This is a very fast connection at about 60 mbps. The 500 MB download should complete in about 7-10 minutes. Smaller downloads are almost instantaneous. It seems to be specific to the large file downloads that take more time. I have tried resetting the TCP/IP protocol and running the WINSOCK fix. I have also tried disabling the firewall in VIPRE Internet Secuity but nothing I have tried has resolved the download issue. Would appreciate any and all suggestions. I have googled the problem but have not found a solution there either.

A:Trouble downloading large files with Windows XP PRO SP3

Easiest solution is to download the file on to a computer off site using a different service provider. Put the file on a USB stick and take it to the client.

I think the client needs to contact Charter about the difficulty downloading items from the internet.
1. Does Charter still support XP? That might be part of the problem.
2. Is there a limit on data downloaded? Comcast has caps in some areas. I'm not sure what happens when you approach or go over the limit because I am no where near any data allowance cap.

Yesterday I was attempting to clear off a friends hardrive of Windows XP Professional and reload it with Windows XP Home Edition which I have on disk because her computer seemed to have a virus but to my dismay everytime the download got to a certain point which was 98% into copying all the files the screen would say that it could not copy a particular file and give the option of skipping that file to continue. The problem is once I would prompt it to skip it and continue the download the whole download would start all over again instead......HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And when I try the Media creation tool, it appears to begin downloading, and stays on ?progress 0%? for a half hour or more, until I cancel it.

Help!

A:Trouble downloading Windows 10 Anniversary edition

Download the ISO, not the creation tool. Windows 10 ISO If it is not working for the tool, it can be third party security software causing the issue.

Make sure that you go through and turn off all of the Telmetrics stuff and change in updates to not reboot when you get the ISO installed as a Clean Install. Just make sure that you back up your system before doing the install, along with have all of your product licenses to reinstall the software.

If you wish to store your documents and other stuff off site if you do not have a Pocket Drive, Amazon allows you 30 days free for their unlimited Cloud Service. Well worth the price for the long term to keep photos on there.

Boxergirl I don't know HOW you are downloading Win10, but the best way to do it is using the Media Creation Tool:  Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help With this tool, you have the option of (1) creating Win10 installation media (USB or DVD), (2) downloading an ISO file, (3) updating the PC directly.  What I recommend is getting an 8GB USB stick and using option (1) to create installation media, then inserting that media and running the Upgrade. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

I'm just going to copy and paste what I have posted everywhere:

-----------------------------

I recently installed WinXP. I had WinME before this, very few problems.
I formatted, installed WinXP, and everything is fine, except one thing. I
cannot downloading anything. for instance, I go to http://www.aim.com , and
I try to DL AOL Instant Messenger. The dialog may or may not pop up, and
when it does, I select a folder to download to, and the Time Remaining stays
blank, Transfer Rate is blank, and the Progress Bar does not move. The file
doesn't download. One of my friends told me something about having an NTFS
system instead of FAT32. I dont know if this will fix it, but if there is
something easier, I'll take that instead. I have RoadRunner Cable, I Obtain
IP and DNS addresses automatically, and am through a router. I have released
and renewed my IPs twice. I did not have this problem before WinXP came
along. I'm not a computer newbie, so I have tried all the menial things,
like Virus Scanners, Cookies, IE options, etc.. I would greatly appreciate
help please!

Thanks,
Ryan

I also took a screenshot of what happens:

Update: I have reformatted my computer, this time with NTFS (just because). There is no change in my problem. I need all the help I can get, because I'm not going back to WinME! Please help! E-mail me also if you can, [email protected] Read more

The icon you see traditionally means that there is no application set to open the file in question. or that the file in question is corrupt. I don't know whether this is an XP or an IE thing...

I inhereted this laptop at my company. I have full admin rights to it, btw.

This is kind of tough to explain. When I go to download certain types of programs - not files with a direct link to the file, but something that's supposed to run an installer on my machine - I don't get a prompt to download the software and the files don't start to download.

For example, go to http://download.sidestep.com/get/k00...&param=onlyGet

If you click I Agree, it should start to download a file. Except on my machine, it won't. I've had this same problem at other sites and it's becoming a major issue - I can't DL the webconferencing software we use, either.

I've gone into IE tools/Security/Custom Level and made sure that everything in ActiveX will download (or at least prompt me), but I don't get the pop-up box to download these types of programs. I've dropped my security levels to the bare minimums, but that didn't help either.

For what it's worth, the Sidestep site listed above gives me this error message:
-------------------
This is taking too long.

Then same thing happens whenever I try to download things from my email too!

Is there some way to fix this problem?

Certainly. Make sure all drivers are installed. And try getting Microsoft updates then downloading and installing other software.

The worst case scenerio would be : you had a bad stick of ram and windows installation was corrupt. However I think you will be able to solve this problem with windows updates.

it wont download anything, it will seem as though it is for instance

i went to download firefox for him

downloading its not there, the download screen just disapears
upon completion even though box isnt checked,

so i tried just to run it and it gets to point where window pops up
to install and click instal and window vanishes and nothing happens

ive check temp folders and cleared them ive tried system restore
set all internet options to default closed all virus programs,
no firewall up and still nothing
and it does this on everything thats downloaded or rather attempted

its funny because there is no errors that come up it just acts as though
nothing happened , created a folder for downloads and assigned everything to download to it and following downloads nothings there..

im wondering if the windows defender is a culprit here but i deleted it and still nothing, but maybe still remnants in registry or something

i hope that made sense and if any1 has any ideas please help

I am having trouble downloading anything from any website whether it's through IE, Netscape or AT&T browser. When I go to any website to download, computer acts like it's downloading, but the end result is a large solid window, except for a small white square in the upper left hand corner of this large white window. Within that small white square there's a even smaller red square in it's left hand corner. Then below that is a blue triangle. Then to the right of those two small objects, there's a small black circle. I have searched and searched the internet for any explanations, but to no aval. Even AT&T couldn't explain it either when they tried to use their remote assistance to help me with downloading their software. I have taken a picture of this weird looking icon with my cell phone. If anyone out there would give me their cell phone # I'll send the picture to you. I have dug deep into IE's internet options, but don't see anything that should be blocking me from downloading. All options are checked that allows downloading. Please help!

Hi all.

I couldn't find any threads that cover my exact issue and I assume that this is the correct section of the board to post in... anyway, my issue is as follows:

IE8 won't allow me to download any programs. The download box pops up as normal and the progress bar goes to 100% but then it just closes and the download is nowhere to be seen. The search function won't find it either; the program is not on my computer.

The only bits of advice I've found online is to download Firefox (which would be great if it wasn't for the initial downloading problem) and also altering permissions in the Component Services bit (dcomcnfg), which did nothing.

I've also turned off Windows Firewall and am using Kaspersky 2011 with all permissions set so that it doesn't delete stuff automatically.

I also had an issue with uTorrent that I believe to be related: Whenever I clicked on a link to download a torrent, uTorrent wouldn't pick up on the fact that I was attempting to add a torrent to the download list. I was able to add a new torrent by inputting the URL but they would invariably fail.

(Foolishly, I had a bit of a tantrum and uninstalled uTorrent so as to install BitComet but then realised that I couldn't download that anyway. I blame quitting smoking.)

Any ideas?

You may be infected with Poweliks or Xswkit (aka Gootkit, a Poweliks clone) which typically affects the ability to browse or download files using Internet Explorer and causes PowerShell error alerts. Task Manager typically shows numerous occurrences of (COM Surrogate) dllhost.exe or dllhst3g.exe. If using a 64-bit version of Windows, then these entries will be listed as dllhost.exe *32 or dllhst3g.exe *32. These processes are known to spawn and consume a large amount of system resources. When attempting to download files in Internet Explorer you may receive the message "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." or you may see a pop-up alert advising that "powershell (powershell.exe) has stopped working".If you are having trouble downloading files with Internet Explorer, follow these instructions to re-enable downloads/reset all Security zones to default.

Two things:
First: there is no safe way to deal with P2P, and my firm is inundated with calls and computers everyday from people who don't believe me, and thought some free AV program on the web would help them.

Second: the likelihood of pirated data being passed over torrent or Limewire is about 100%, give or take, and I'll answer no question about them.

You have a simple file associations problem, but given the context, I can't condone the process, and won't be helping on this one.

Here is my original problem in a nutshell. I am a beginner. I installed an old windows xp i had (2002). After installation i couldn't connect to the internet. I checked the drivers, and sure enough, they had a ? next to their name. I needed these drivers: ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, video controller. I have only 1 computer, so i thought i should try the ubuntu (linux) cd i had. I installed ubuntu, and now i have internet. I went to dell.com/support and tried downloading drivers. I get this "delldriverdownloadmanager.application", a plain text document, 9.3 kb in size (not the 3.3 mb size i expect). I don't think this is the correct driver application. I cannot open it in winzip. I don't know what i am doing wrong. Can i download these drivers using a linux OS? Any help would be appreciated.

A:Trouble downloading drivers

It looks like Dell is trying to make you use a download manager to download the drivers (why they do this I do not know), try looking for a direct download link, if you can't find one, you can try using a friend's computer to download the ethernet drivers.

What do you think????

Help...Dianne

I can't seem to download the XP_CodecRepair.inf. I am using IE7. I have followed the instructions below. When I click on the link to the file I get an Error 404: Page Not Found. While on the error page I try to use the file-->save as instruction. I done get a File -->"Save page as" option just the "save as". I save the page using the "webpage complete" option but this only save the 404 error page and image file.I know this is probably supposed to be easier but I can't seem to get around it. My pc was infected by the Viruswebprotect2008.com. I have already run the SDFix and Malwarebytes. I have manually restored the missing items to my start menu (Control Panel, search, help and support, etc..)I am still missing the following:When My Computer is opened the "C:" drive is missing alond with "D:"(cd/dvd), but the link to control Panel is back in the main window and on the shortcut menu on the left side of the window. I can however see the "C:" drive when right clicking on the start button and choosing Explore.I can post any log files that you may need.To fix the restrictions put in place by this infection, please open the SDFix folder or download XP_CodecRepair.inf and save it to your desktop. RIGHT CLICK on XP_CodecRepair.inf and select Install from the Context menu.Note: To download the .inf file, go to File, choose "Save page as" All Files and save XP_CodecRepair.inf to your desktop. Then log ... Hi all,

I am having trouble downloading attachments from emails on ie9 or downloading anything other than pictures.
When i try to download items i get to 100%, and then look in the file at where the item was downloading, and it is listed as 'partial download'. I then can't do anything with the file, when you double click on it it just takes you to the 'view downloads' window.
Resetting ie9 doesn't do anything, can anyone help?

Cheers, Kris

So I am trying to download a game called TalonRO. The problem I am running into is that I download the file in google chrome and when it finishes downloading I click it and then nothing happens. After a while the screen pops up saying "Are you sure you want TalonRO to change your computer" - The normal message I get when downloading anything. Then after I click yes nothing happens. I had the game working before and all I did was kept trying and kept waiting and after a couple days it finally opened the installer for me and once that was opened I had no problems with anything. I don't know what the problem is and I thought maybe I just need to re-download the file from the website so I tried to delete the file I had already downloaded by searching for it in the search bar when you press the windows button, and then right clicking and deleting it. But when I right click the file my computer gets really laggy and weird and I end up having to just shut down. Also my computer has been acting really weird lately, so I of course (being the computer moron I am) jumped the to conclusion that it has a virus, but when I did a full scan my computer said everything is fine, my friend told me to download ccleaner so I did but I don't really know how to use it well so I'm pretty sure I didn't use it correctly and that's why it didn't help me very much. I also used windows basic defrager and defraged my computer. But none of this has really done anyt... Read more

Okay, i am not sure what causes this, not even really sure what forum it belongs in, but here is my problem.

When downloading things, whether in IE or Mozilla Firefox, the download seems to think its done about halfway into it, if not less. Anything I download does this, it starts, and finishes...and me, thinking its done, open it. It of course doesnt work and i look at the file size and its way smaller than what its intended to be.

My question is, what causes this, and if you know that...how do i fix it?

I'm trying to download Steam so I can get some nice games ect ect ect.

anyway when I try to download it, it goes to my computer fine but all that happens is I get a message saying:

"the windows installer service could not be accessed this can occur if you are running windows in safe mode or windows installer is not correctly installed"

I reckon it's to do with my installer... but Im not very good with software issues... any ideas?

Im hoping that you are not referring to a p2p'd movie
in trusting that you have downloaded it via a legitimate source may i ask what file extension the movie is? .DVX .AVI ect
however i feel that this could be a case a fake file downloaded by a source not condoned by vista forums

In response to your Report:

If you have solved your issue you can post back the solution and mark the thread as solved using the Mark Solved button above your thread; this lets other people know the solution and lets the helpers know that you no longer need assistance.

Also be be advise that the Malware Removal section is very busy due to the high number of infections and it can take 24 hours or more to get a response and if your thread has been lost you can also bump it up by posting to it again. Patience is required as their is only a limited number of quality helpers giving their time for free. Also if you still need help with TIS 2010 or having your HJT log read and checked for infections you can post it.
