[NEW] The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

Q: [NEW] The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

Has Microsoft changed something in the latest April Windows Updates?
I create a default Windows 8 Enterprise VL image on my laptop in audit mode as I have always done previously. Nothing has changed from my side.
When I install the image via WDS, everything installs fine.
When I use my WIM file to install via USB, it now comes up with:
The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.
right after selecting the install language.
I have checked EI.cfg and it is normal:
[EditionID]
Enterprise
[Channel]
Volume
[VL]
1
I then tried adding PID.TXT with my Enterprise KMS key and, rather than error it then prompts me for a product key.
Surely using the VL install media it should never ask for a product key. It never has before. (And I've never had to before)
I prepped the image as normal using:
C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:C:\Windows\win8unattend.xml
Any ideas? I can't but help thinking something has changed in the latest batch of Windows Updates. It's quite frustrating as not all my machines are capable of PXE, so I have to use USB.
The reason I think it is a recent change, is if I do a default install and DO NOT do any Windows Updates, it all works fine. Only when I install the latest WU does it start doing this.

Preferred Solution: [NEW] The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: [NEW] The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

OK, So I've fixed it now, but I will still like to know WHY this has changed.

If i do this to my WIM, it then installs from USB:

imagex /flags "Enterprise" /info c:\temp\WIM\ME\install.wim "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86" "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86"

I wonder because I use the WDS capture image if this has somehow changed recently.
Very annoying, but now at least I can install my custom image :)

So short story, I work at a college tech site that fixes student and faculty computers. A foreign exchange student from Japan with a Sony Vaio (most likely from Japan as well) managed to get a virus on his computer and he was blocked off our network. Our policy is that we wipe and reinstall the OS to ensure that the virus is gone. However, we didn't have any Windows 7 Home Prem media CDs so I downloaded a Win7 Home Prem 32bit iso off of MSDN and burnt it to disk. However, when entering the product key given on the bottom of the laptop(and I've checked 3 times now to make sure it's correct), I get a:

"Product key does not match the current Windows SKU" error.

Why is this happening? Do I need a certain burnt iso (from Sony in Japan?) because of the laptop's foreign origins or is something else causing the problem here?

A:Product Key Does Not Match Current Windows SKU (Foreign product key?)

Yes, you need a Japanese iso, they have regional editions.

I upgraded from windows 7 home premium to windows 8 pro with my valid product key that i purchased from Buy Windows - Microsoft Windows for $39.99 with ease. Then I requested a free media center key from windows here Add features - Microsoft Windows and i have still have not received the email. (I know i was stupid but,) I told my friend and he put his key in the the add features box and it says its valid and works for three hours. Then a blue screen pulls up asking to activate windows so i put in my valid product key and it says "This key didn't work. Please check it and try again, or try a different key". Under "Current product key" the last five digits do not match my valid product key. I'm assuming that the add features changed my product key and also my windows version so it wont activate. Kind of like using a Windows 7 home premium key on a Windows 7 ultimate os. I was looking around in the windows 8 help and found this Add features to Windows 8: Frequently asked questions that you cant remove added windows features unless you do a clean install. Which i don't believe i can do because i have a upgrade key.

A:Windows 8 Pro Product key fails after Media Center Key is entered

I assume your friend had already used the WMC key and that is why yours stopped working. You may have to re-install Window 7 and then your Windows 8 Upgrade key will work. I know it is a PIA. I make a image on my system before I do any updates so if something goes wrong I can restore back to the original. Also look at System Reset as it lets you restore to a clean version of Windows 8 and asks for your key. I do not know if it will work with the Upgrade key or not but may be worth checking.

I just spent the last three hours on the phone. I was transferred 5 times and no one could help me. I want to rage beyond words right now.

So here is the problem...

I have a legitimate copy of Windows 7 ultimate. (that I bought in 2010 from my college.)

When windows 10 came out I made a mistake and did a CLEAN install not knowing the idiotic rule of not being able to validate the old windows 7 key. (validation only works if I did a windows 7 to 10 upgrade FOR SOME STUPID REASON.)

Now I am stuck in windows 10. My windows 7 key will not validate to re download windows 7 in order to UPGRADE to windows 10.

I have the disc of windows 7 but I do not have a CD rom. (so I will need to do a USB install)

When I call Microsoft they check my key (to ensure it is valid) they say everything is fine with it, but like I said I cannot use it.

I have not given this key to ANYONE. I also did not deactivate it before the windows 10 clean install.

When I attempt to download the windows 7 download and enter my key I get this response...

"Error
The product key you entered appears to be for software licensed through an Enterprise Agreement. Please contact the Volume Licensing Service Center for software recovery options or visit the Volume Licensing Home Page for more information on Enterprise

Hi,

I ran into a weird situation where I was putting together a pc from spare parts for a friend. He bought a hard drive and a copy of windows (win 7 home premium 64). As it turned out the cpu I was using could not do 64bit, so I installed the win 7 home premium 32 bit trial, as I understood I could use the product key from the copy he purchased.

Now he is not happy with the performance of this computer and wants to purchase newer components to make a faster system - including CPU and 8 gb ram, so the 64 bit version would be more appropriate. I checked and the 32 bit windows had not yet activated. I used SLMGR to remove the product key from the registry and uninstall it. I think this puts it back into trial mode, if I'm not mistaken.

What I need to know is that, from Microsoft's point of view, has this key been used up and tied to this 32bit install, or can I still use the key from the 64bit product he bought on a 64bit install. If he's stuck tied to this 32 bit install I will tell him not to buy more than 4gb of ram.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:entered product key, but not yet activated, can I reuse on diff hardw?

The Key is valid for either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows.
The only problems arise if the License is an OEM one, rather than Retail, and the system was activated.
Upgrading CPU and RAM will not affect activation status anyhow, even if the system had been activated.
It's only the motherboard that is critical - and then only in the case of an (activated) OEM License.

Feel free to swap anything you like

Hello,

I bought my Medion PC about a year ago and it came with Vista preinstalled. Yesterday when i turned it on i was shown the above error message on a black background, with three options - 1. Access your computer with reduced functionality 2. Enter different product key 3. Contact Medion AG to help resolve this problem.
These are my only options, i have no access to deskstop, or start key etc. I have reentered my product key numerous times and also reentered a new product key given to me by microsoft customer support on the telephone but neither was accepted and i received the following error message with both product keys: Code 0xc004f050 . The people on the microsoft customer support number could not help me any more and refered me to Medion, who referred me back to microsoft!

I have not performed any updates to Vista or uninstalled any drivers etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have an important deadline looming,

thanks very much,

Last night I tried updating to the latest version of SUPER Converter by eRightSoft. I thought I unchecked all of the optional installations during the setup process, but as soon as it started to update, different install windows started popping up and my AVG Anti Virus Free started detecting Trojans and stuff and removing the threats. I started to cancel all installations, and shortly after my whole screen was taken up by the "Enter a Product Key" message.

I shut my computer off and rebooted in safe mode to run an AVG scan. But the output in the scan command window kept saying "File locked. Not Scanned. Is Ok." And it didn't resolve anything. Then I went to control panel to uninstall SUPER, which I did. Then there were 4 recent programs I didn't recognize, and was able to uninstall 2 of the 4. I got some kind of permissions denied message when trying to uninstall the other 2. Maybe because I was in safe mode?

Then I booted back up normally and after auto-logging in to my windows user account, shortly after the desktop loaded, the product key message took up the whole screen again. I shut off the computer again and found this help video on my phone:
It looks exactly like that, and following the steps allowed me to navigate on my computer normally with the product key message taking up a small portion of my screen. I reformat my laptop, however i used a downloaded version of Windows 7 cracked (which is not genuine). When i bought my laptop it comes with a product license, and i wrote it down before i reformat. Now i cant seem to find where i should enter the product key. I think it was disabled or something because the copy is cracked. Even in My Computer>Properties the genuine logo is nowhere to be found. I went to this site www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/ and tried validating but upon scanning it suddenly stops and got an error. What i want is to make sure that my pc is telling me that my windows 7 copy is genuine since my pc should be. So is there a certain software to uncrack or deactivate this copy of windows so that i can enter my product key or is there another workaround.

Yesterday, I tried to help my father to activate some used laptops. 3 of 4 proceeded without difficulties. The last one has only 2 days left for activation.

I tried entering the product code key that is stored in the battery compartment. it is registered as a windows 7 Pro.

Upon completion, the activation program responded: "The product key you have entered will not work with this edition of Windows 7. You must run a windows 7 home premium product key."

To my surprise, yes, the current software says it is windows home!

I called microsoft. they verified that it is a genuine registration number but since it is a pre-installed program they cannot help me with it. They said I need to contact Lenovo. I haven't been able to find technical help on their website.

Of course, there is no warranty left on these used computers and they did not come with any software cd or usb.

I am hoping someone can help us figure out how to go about making this laptop usable.

Anyone know whether the product ID on --Computer>properties>windows activation-- should be changed to the product key during activation or just as it is ( with OEM in between numbers)?

the reason is that I did clean install to my laptop and managed to get a copy of installations CD which is OEM. during installation and when finished, I entered product key that found at the bottom of my laptop (with COA , etc. it is genuine).

Strange enough is that after I finish the activation process, the product ID still as it is and not the numbers I entered.

I did some checking with microsoft and asked me to input product ID, which identified as a chargeable product ID since it is OEM and I should contact the computer manufacturer.

can someone please explain if happened to know the situation between Microsoft , Computer manufacturer, and customer who in need to clean install their computer so that we , as customer, know at which step of the process we are actually in, and what other actions needed.

The code with -OEM- in it is the Product ID - not the Key.
If you used the manufacturer's Recovery media to reinstall, you should not have needed to enter the Key at all - it seems that you used some other media.

Hi, before I signed up I scouted this site and others for answers as this is a question which has came up often, I've gone through the steps to the same position.

I bought a Windows 7 ISO/Product Key from this site https://softwaregeeks.co.uk. They have good ratings so I thought "This isn't some rip off like the last Windows I got from Ebay". I did the installation with their ISO Windows 7 Professional OEM. They sent me a code which doesn't work, I've tried emailing them to no avail.

I know that the letter N doesn't work when typing an activation code yet I got one in my key they sent. The 2nd line of the key is NB8H3 the rest do work.

It's so exasperating after the counterfeit ebay Windows 7 I got the last time.

here's the code, the end product key here is completely different to the one I bought:

We use the information provided by the Security Update Guide API to do automated patch auditing & reporting for windows machines - we fetch a list of missing security updates (by KB-Number) from our machines and map it with the info from the CVRF file
provided by the API to derive which vulnerabilites and more specific which CVEs are relevant in turn.
To do this with a high precision, we need to evaluate which CVEs are relevant for the given products installed on the machine to be audited. In the CVRF-File, every vulerability (CVE) has a list of "Known Affected" products. These products are
identified by Product IDs which are mapped to Product Names in the ProductTree.
Now our problem: We have not yet found a way how the extract a list of installed Product IDs or even Product Names from a machine to be audited. But we need this list to match it with the Known Affected Products in the CVRF file.
Is there a way to solve this? How can we get a list of installed Product IDs from a running windows machine that can be extracted as some kind of text file for offline processing?

I will not question whether this is legal or illegal. This comes from Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q328874

For non-corporate users there is this from my own experience: I have on occasion run into three or four customers who attempted what is known as casual piracy by installing his XP onto a second machine. I have had to get only one customer out of this mess (about two years ago or longer) but the workaround was easy. (By the time his grace period was up, he had installed many programs and didn't want to be forced to do it again.) We called Microsoft, gave them a credit card number and they worked us through some steps that fixed the problem.

We then rebooted and was asked for a valid key.

I do not remember the steps as it was quite some time back and I saw no reason to keep notes on it.

Microsoft asked no questions about why he attempted piracy. I think they are just happy to get the money.

Hello all,

I recently purchased a computer from CowBoom and it states that it comes with a BIOS sticker located near the battery. When I boot up the computer, I get the following message "press any key to boot from floppy mbr error". I have the product key from underneath but anything I try to press doesn't seem to work.

I tried pressing F2 as soon as the Toshiba symbol pops up but this gives me a blue screen with a large gray box that just gives me info about the computer's SSD, date, time, etc. F12 brought up a small gray box that gave some information about the hard drive and somewhere it states "enter setup" but when I press enter nothing happens. I am in desperate need of some help. Many thanks.

A:BIOS sticker has Product Key but where to enter?

I'd be sending it back as defective. If you're having a problem already who knows what other problems are lurking in the shadows.

A:how to enter product serial number model

Hi,I think the BIOS chip has to be "re-tattooed" again with the correct hashes for hardware and exact model details by HP directly.HP has its own proprietary BIOS modification tools for doing it. We have no access to these. Please contact HP to correct this. You may have to give your product to then for few weeks to get it done.http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/Phone Assist:http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.htmlRegardsVisruth

Just a thought, did you authenticate the license with microsoft by registering?

Hi,
I purchased a Dell Laptop Inspiron 14R 5421 (Windows 8) in 2013. I used it for 4  years without any issue only until last month i had a problem of the laptop not starting (only DELL logo appearing). I ran the F12 diagnostics & it found a problem in Hard ware. I took it to a local service center (not authorised) in India & they formatted the hard drive. Post which, they installed a temporary windows 8 software & asked me NOT TO UPDATE. Now my laptop does not have the normal factory configuration & i have lost all dell diagnostics support & windows apps which were factory installed. I need to install a clean version of Windows 7 or 8. Can anyone guide me how to do this? I understand that the product key is encrypted by Dell in BIOS for all machines after 2012 or something.

Hi Guys,
the laptop in my hard drive dead so I was advised to buy a new hard drive and restore in using the OS disc that came with new laptop. Unfortunately I don't have the disc so I was advised To get the recovery disc's from the Dell Site, but when I put the Express Service code in I get this message
"no OS image for this Tag, though images exist for this product"
So where do I get them from?

A:no OS image for this Tag, though images exist for this product

Not Express Service.  Service Tag.
Two different numbers.

Hello,

I just built my first desktop and this is making me very anxious. The system itself looks like it works. Although the when I plug in the USB in order to install Windows, it starts to behave irradicly. It loads the windows sign and thenot takes me to product key registration. It then restarts and repeats the whole process indefinitely.

What do you think is wrong with it and what can I do ?

A:System runs but restarts before I enter product key for wind

Recently I've been having some problems booting XP on my bootcamped Macbook Pro. I've been attempting to do a repair install in order to fix it (although I had to do some stuff in the recovery console for it to even recognize my existing installation and give me the option to repair it). I managed to get to the part where it reboots and goes to setup. I'm stuck at 33 minutes remaining at the part where it asks for my product key. At this point my keyboard won't respond so I can't enter the product key to continue setup.

Before that it was freezing at 34 minutes remaining at "Installing devices." After looking the problem up, I unplugged everything but the power and tried booting in debugging mode by pressing F8 before setup showed up (Thus proving that the keyboard works fine before it enters setup). Even so, it took several tries to get past the 34 minute mark.

Any ideas on how I can get my keyboard to respond so that I can complete the repair install? I want to avoid having to a fresh start from a clean install if at all possible.

A:XP Repair Install: Keyboard not responding, can't enter product key

Have you tried using a USB keyboard? The likelihood is that the bios supports the keyboard because it is inbuilt (hence why you can select F8) but when you get to windows it doesn?t have the necessary drivers to support he keyboard.

Try using a USB keyboard that you know will work on XP (so not a Mac keyboard) and then install the drivers once you?re in.

I wanna dual boot Windows 8 Consumer Preview with my existing OS, Windows 7 Home Premium. I have created the necessary partitions and also created the bootable pendrive from the ISO downloaded.

When I begin the installation, everything goes fine until the Product Key screen comes up. I have tried 'NF32V-Q9P3W-7DR7Y-JGWRW-JFCK8' and 'DNJXJ-7XBW8-2378T-X22TX-BKG7J' but I get an error message saying 'We couldn't verify the product key. Check the installation media'
When I enter a random product key like '00000-00000-00000-00000-00000' it gives a message saying that the product key is wrong, but when I enter the correct product key I get the error message which I have put in bold statements above.

What shall I do? Please help.

Abhishek Sharma

Hello Abhishek, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The latest version of Windows 8 is currently the Release Preview. You might consider installing it instead.

If you're like me you've never even noticed the Sticky thread called "X1 Convertible Ideation". Behind that kind of odd name lies an entire forum section for discussing future products and product improvements, and presumably Lenovo reads it. If you have product improvement ideas or feedback about exisiting products, please post there. And while you're at it, vote for some of the posted ideas.  Link to the Feedback forum: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X1-Convertible-Ideation/idb-p/id_tp01_en

I picked up this lenovo laptop and shortly after I got it the HDD went out. I replaced the HDD and Installed a full version of Windows XP SP2 then used the Win 7 upgrade disc I bought. I did a clean install of the Win 7 then I activated it at that time without any issues. Some time after that I started getting the message it wasn't a genuine copy. I rearmed the time period but I'm not able to activate the copy again with the PID. I get the message this product is for upgrade and not a clean install. I need to find out if I will be able to register this copy or if I will need to start over from scratch. I did try putting in another PID but it didn't activate with it. I haven't been able to change the PID back due to the message I am getting about the upgrade not clean install.

I appreciate any help I can get with this issue.
