Vizio TV connection to HDHomeRun device

Q: Vizio TV connection to HDHomeRun device

Hoping this is the best place to post this.

I recently purchased a gadget called a HD HomeRun Prime from a company called Silicon Dust, Model HDHR3-CC (www.hdhomerun.com). They are located in Plesanton, CA. It is supposed to stream live TV at 1080i to “any screen on your home network” , i.e., “Smart” TVs, computers, media players, game consoles, laptops, Blu-Ray players, Android devices, etc. It has three digital tuners and connects to my Verizon FiOS cable with an Ethernet cable going back to the Wi-Fi router. There is a slot for a Motorola “M-Card” (CableCARD) which I have obtained, installed and activated. Verizon charges $4.99/mo. to rent this card. This is supposed to give you the ability to stream the live TV to three devices (wirelessly) without having to rent additional set-top boxes from Verizon at $11.99/mo. The product literature stated that it was “dlna certified” but did NOT mention that devices intended to be used with it also HAD to be dlna certified or compliant. The only requirement it places on TVs is that they be “Smart.” (See http://www.hdhomerun.com/company/about/ for a more detailed technical explanation.)

Soooooooooooo, I went out and bought two Vizio E241i-A1W TVs. They are “Smart” 1080p technology. The software supplied with the device is installed on an ACER NetBook running Windows 7. This is able to connect to the device, wirelessly through the Wi-Fi router and displays all of the channels (including premium) I am able to see on the TV attached to the set-top box.

Now, the issue: I can find no way to connect the Vizio(s) to the device. The TV is set up and connected (wirelessly) to the Wi-Fi router, i.e., it sees the SSID of the router, is assigned an internal IP address from the router (192.168.1.xx), and the TV is "visible" on the router's browser home screen. This is as far as I can get. I can find no configuration option in the TV’s menu that gets me anywhere. I was thinking there would be a screen that showed me the device and/or its three tuners and let me “pair” the TV with one of them. No dice. Or, I thought there would be an option in the device set-up that would allow me to enter the local IP address of the TV and pair it with one of the tuners. Nope. There doesn’t seem to be any kind of downloadable app from the TV’s Yahoo store that will allow this connection.

Soooooooooooo, I presented all of this information to the Support sections of both Vizio and Silicon Dust. Vizio, for it’s part was completely clueless about this device (HD HomeRun Prime), what it is for and how to connect to it. Since there is no way to install the device software on the TV (as I did on the NetBook), the only thing Vizio could tell me was that in order for the TV to obtain programming content from the router, it (the TV) would have to have a CableCARD slot of its own (which it does not have) for the card to be plugged into. This, of course, is in conflict with the concept of the HD HomeRun device. Silicon Dust replied that “Vizio TVs do not support DLNA and thus will not work with HDHomeRun PRIME.” (Would have been nice to know this from their literature before I purchased the TVs.) From what I have read on other forums, this may not be strictly true, only that the dlna implementation is “not ideal”. Then, in a later email from Silicon Dust they said. “Connecting devices don't need to be DLNA certified, but they do need to actually implement DLNA properly. Vizio TVs have something that sort of vaguely resembles DLNA, but isn't remotely close to a proper implementation and doesn't work correctly. Sony and Panasonic probably have the best implementations. Samsung sometimes works and sometimes doesn't - they have a lot of issues with device discovery.”

Do some Vizio models incorporate dlna and some (including mine) do not? Is there any way around this issue? Am I screwed? Do I need to buy different (brand) TVs that are more dlna friendly? Anybody want to but these Vizios?
Is there a more appropriate forum in which to discuss this issue?

Preferred Solution: Vizio TV connection to HDHomeRun device

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Vizio TV connection to HDHomeRun device

The two methods would be via app/software or DLNA.

DLNA support is a feature, and isn't supported on all models/brands. If it's supported, it should be listed in the specs. I didn't see it mentioned in the User Manual for your TV.

If Silicon Dust states it won't work, then it sounds like you are out of luck. If there was a work around, or even a solution that works on some models, they would be the ones to know.

I was looking for a supported TV list on their site, but couldn't find one.

Hi - Not sure this is a networking issue but I don't see an obvious category. I've got a Vizio Model D50-D1 tv and wanted to add a Vizio 38"soundbar and woofer. I asked Vizio if my TV is Bluetooth compatible and got a silly answer that did not answer my question. My conclusion is that it does not have Bluetooth and so my question is whether there is an external device I can add to the TV that will allow me to pair it with the Bluetooth soundbar. I know that the small USB dongle to a computer does not work. However, are there other devices out there that might plug into the TV's USB or other port?

Hello Tech Support Gang,
I have 20mbps TimeWarner Cable internet.

I have a Motorola Surfboard extreme cable modem SB6141 and a TRENDne tAC1750 Dual Band Wireless Router.

When I use http://www.speedtest.net/ on my pc I get 20mbps download speeds. This is wireless and through the router.

However, my Vizio M651D-A2R TV and PS3 both experience limited internet speeds... 9mbps or slower when I test their connections.

The internet connection affects my viewing of 3d and super highdef videos on netflix. When I try to play 3d the message indicates my connection is not fast enough.

I then plugged my TV directly into the cable modem... there was no impact on download speed. So it is not the router.

My next step is to try using my PC as a proxy like explained here: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=34192

Ideally I would not have to do that. Any suggestions?

I tried searching for a resolution for the past couple days, but nothing seems to work. A couple weeks ago everything was fine, I could stream wirelessly my media from my PC (Windows 7) to my Vizio E60i-A3, then all of a sudden my PC stopped showing up in the device list in the media menu. As far as I could tell, nothing had changed, so I was not sure why it stopped working. I could still stream from my android phone, but I could not see my PC from the TV.

I have checked my PC settings, streaming is on but the TV is not listed in the devices, network discovery and file sharing are both on, and under WMP both allow remote control and automatically allow devices to play my media are both checked under the stream menu.

After days of trying to figure this out, I have tried resetting TV to factory defaults and setting it back up, I have formatted my computer so it's a fresh installation (I have also tried turning off all firewalls and antivirus), and I have also reset router (Verizon FIOS router MI424WR) to factory defaults. I still cannot see my PC under the dlna media list, but I can see my android phone.

One other thing to note is that I can ping the TV from both the router and the PC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me crazy!

Vizio is the only site I have seen a problem with.

I tested on 2 PCs (Win 7), with Firefox 9, and IE9 - same problem.

I have at&t Uverse with a 2Wire Gateway ( Internet, TV, Phone ) in Greensboro, NC.

Has anyone else ever seen this kind of issue?
Is it an ISP DNS server problem, or could there be some issue in my home?

I'm having no luck getting my XPS 13 running Windows 10 to output video to my Vizio 4K TV. My XPS has DisplayPort (not Thunderbolt), so I'm using an DisplayPort male to HDMI male adapter cable. I have tried every HDMI input on my TV and adjusted numerous display settings on the XPS, all to no avail. The only thing I ever see on my Vizio screen is "No signal". My XPS has integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400, driver version Also DirectX version 12.0.
This problem seems to be specific to my Vizio, because when I connect up the XPS to any other monitor or TV via HDMI, the video displays perfectly. The Vizio has no trouble with any other device connected to it via HDMI, such as a Blu-ray player.
Any settings or configurations I should try on the XPS and/or Vizio? I have rebooted the XPS, switched HDMI cables, and so on.

Hello. I have a GTX 1080 and two displays. One is a Qnix 2710 Evolution II @ 100hz, and the other is a Vizio D50u D1 with 3840x2160 @60hz.

A few days ago, I was able to switch from my monitor to TV by simply turning it on. After I pressed the TV's power button, the monitor would automatically shut off, and the TV would run at 4k 60hz.

With no new driver updates/noticeable changes to the TV or graphics card, the TV display has stopped working as a monitor all together. I get "No signal". Nvidia control panel does recognize the display, but now shows my TV as "SGD FRCX". It was "D50U-D1" a couple days ago.

My Qnix monitor runs just fine by the way.

It gives me options to set the resolution (which does nothing since the display doesn't show), but does not give me the option to set it to the native 3840x2160 @ 60hz like it did before.
I re-installed my graphics drivers and the problem still persists. I'm not too sure what to do.

I have a Vizio 32L and run an HDMI and a separate sound cord from my HP Window 7 computer. I can get both the video and the sound to work great, just not at the same time. If I can get video on HDMI 1, sound is on 2, and the opposite. Please help before I go insane.

A:Vizio HDMI to Laptop

Are you running HDMI from point to point or is it being converted from DVI to HDMI? If its HDMI all the way, you shouldn't need an extra sound cord and somewhere in the audio out settings should be for audio over HDMI (might have to dig through some documentation to find it).
If you have to run sound seperate, is there seperate audio ports for each HDMI on the monitor? Usually there's only one for one port. Are they hooked up opposite for some reason? You are hooking up video to HDMI one and audio to HDMI one analog audio and the audio only comes through when switched to HDMI 2? Very strange if so, and hooking up audio to HDMI 2 with video still on one produces the same result?

I have a Vizio VBR122 Blu Ray Player. It worked fine the first few months I owned it. It even read a 500GB external hard drive that I had plugged into the USB port on the front, even though it didn't state it would playback video through USB.

Since the player isn't supposed to support video playback from USB, customer support is worthless. I had the hard drive plugged into it and set up like a media library.

All of a sudden it stopped reading from it one day, no idea why. It also won't play brunt DVDs. I have attempted to burn movies to DVD+RW (which it says it supports) in AVI and MPEG format but the player doesn't recognize it. It simply ejects it back out.

Any ideas?

A:Vizio VBR122 Blu Ray Player Issues

Regarding the external drive - these are typically less reliable than internal drives and fail more frequently - often because of a failed interface converter board in the enclosure rather than the drive itself. Have you tried it on a PC recently to see if it's still working properly? You can also test it for possible failure on a Windows PC with Seagate SeaTools for Windows (doesn't matter what make it is).
Click "Downloads" on this page: http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

As for the Vizio not playing AVI & MPEG, does it expressly support those formats?

Hi guys,

I was in the middle of watching a YouTube video when suddenly the screen went black - the sound still played and the backlights continued to function, but nothing on the screen otherwise. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a small defect on the panel: on the bottom right corner, there is a circle/cluster of pixels, about an inch around.

Again, my TV is a VIZIO M50-C1 50-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2015 Model), and I've only owned it for 3 years.

I've attempted power cycling, pressing suggested button combos on my remote control to reactivate the screen, but nothing's worked. Am I screwed here, meaning, do I have a faulty panel, or could it possibly be a less severe problem?

Any ideas?

Thank you everyone for reading this far and for any suggestions.

Hey all.

First time posting on the forum for me. I just got home from college and started using my wifi, thinking that it would be insanely faster than my horrible dorm wifi. However, I noticed that my speeds weren't that great. So I did a speed test on speedtest.net and found these results - 1.78 down, 10.60 up.

This was immediately after I was playing an online FPS, so that may have been why it was ultra-low. However, even now after I have stopped playing, i'm getting a mere 6.41 Mbps down.

I thought maybe it was Comcast/xfinity that was the problem. however my brother did a speed test and got like 80 down 11 up. Anyone know what the problem might be? It seems like it has something to do with my computer since my brother's getting such good speeds.

I tried this one fix on the internet that told me to reset my isp or something like that. After doing that I got around 11 up, but that quickly deteriorated back down to 1-3 up after I started my online game.

Please help me fix this problem.

I work at an airport and we just purchased a 42" LCD monitor for our flight information display monitor we are putting near our ticket counters. We hooked up the TV this past weekend and took a VGA cord from the back into the office behind it.

Today I took the laptop we are using down to the office and went about my business.

Here is the rundown:
-At home, I just plugged this laptop into the VGA cord connected to my Samsung 32" and wah-lah, it worked fine as you can see in the photo below. The laptop screen turned off and the resolution was perfect on the television.

-At the airport, I had numerous problems. For one, the laptop screen would turn off as it should when it connected to the VGA. Secondly, the resolution, as you can see in the image below, is a royal mess.

I would appreciate ANY and all support on this! I am going back up there Wednesday when I work again, so I have a good 36 hours of time to hear your input and to answer your questions.

FYI: When I used it at home, I could click FN-F4 to turn the monitor on, to have it running on both monitors, or to turn it off. When at the airport, this was not working at all.

Thank You!

Have a Dell Inspiron 531s, and it came with a Dell 17" rectangular monitor, connected by USB. After changing the OS from Vista to XP Pro, I've now upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium, so I though ti would be great to add a new wide screen monitor. I looked at the Dell offerings, the the model I use at work is a 24", and the price is $270. Looking around at WalMart, and I noticed a Vizio 24" LCD TV was selling for $148. Looking at the box, it states it is PC compatible. Great - $270 vs. $148 - I'll bite!

The only means of connecting from my Inspiron to the Vizio is via a VGA cable (HDMI would have been nice). The idea of going to the wide screen was to allow either split screen or two windows side-by-side, but that's not working out. Seems as though I can't adjust the resolution. The Vizio is identifed as a generic PnP monitor with 1360 x 768 DPI and 60 Hertz refresh. I though perhaps my graphics driver just needed to be updated. The graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430, version

The big question - can I change the resolution? Right now the icons and print are at about 125%. Please keep the tips simple, because I know enough to be dangerous! Thanks much! Rich

A:Added Vizio 24" LCD monitor - Can't change resolution - Need help!

Make sure the laptop is set to show ALL resolutions possible, the video card may just not display that resolution.

The VGA connection may be the problem.

What is the native resolution of the Vizio 24" TV

Is it 1080p or 720p?

All this information is on the box.

Post a manufacturer`s link to the Vizio TV.

I would never use an HDTV as a computer monitor ( they look terrrible ) you can get a 24" PC monitor much cheaper then $270, keep looking.

I only use my Sony Bravia for the occasional movie from the PC.

Other then that it`s strictly for Blu-Ray or HDTV

Hi, I went through all forums I could think of searching for an answer to this issue I'm having and found nothing remotely close to it, so now I'm creating a new thread.

Here's what happened:
Decided to use 32" Plasma Vizio tv for my monitor. Connected it through HDMI to my Nvidia 460 GTX graphics card. Image was terrible, sound did not work for anything but video games... unless I ran the video game then turned on something else like music or a movie... the sound would not work causing whatever program being used to crash. So I said to myself, picture isn't great enough for the sound issue and I disconnected the tv and returned to my old monitor using a VGA cable with DVI converter for the graphics card.
Since this terrible decision I've had a recurring issue with my sound not initializing when trying to play music or movies and sometimes even games. This is what happens.
My system starts up and all system sounds work great! Then I try to play music on Windows Media Player... it loads a song continuously but never plays... so I turn it off and the window closes but the process remains open in Task Manager forcing me to end its process. To get sound to work again I have to go to youtube.com and play a video (which sometimes fails because of the same issue).
WMP aside, some other issues that have arisen include games not starting up because of sound failure. For instance, Counter-Strike Source will load, reach the splash screen of the main menu and will crash... ... Read more

When I connect a cable from my Toshiba laptop (running Windows 7) to my Vizio TV I can see on the TV what I see on the laptop but I can hear only from the laptop's internal speaker.

I've tried this using 2 different HDMI cables and with 2 different Vizio TVs. I've verified in my laptop that the Realtec sound driver is enabled (but that's only possible when the laptop is connected to the TV) and selected as default.

What can I do to hear the laptop video through the TV?

A:No Sound in Vizio HD TV Speakers from Toshiba Sattelite Lapt

You have to change your default sound device once you make the HDMI connection. Right click your sound icon (with the TV connected w/HDMI cable), select playback devices, then select the HDMI connection and set as default.

Hi I am posting this to find a solution to the resolution issue

Before i bought the hd6870 i was using a hd5770 that i still have but when it comes to switching resolutions the new card doesnt reconize the 1920/1080 it only reconizes the 23 inch 1680 x 1050

it kinda bothers me it wasnt like this before now it wont give me a option to fix resolution it says 1920x1080 but in turn it is really 1680x1050 i dont know if i need to re do the driver or what can someone give me a idea?

A:hd6870 not reconizing the native resolution on vizio 37 inch hdtv

dont know if i need to re do the driver

If that means what I think it means and you swapped the cards without uninstalling and re-installing the driver, then that is what you should do.

I am letting those who are having trouble connecting to Netgear n600 Routers Dual Band Gigabit Router, with their Vizio Smart TV with built in Wi Fi.

I went through a very exasperating day today, trying to resolve this problem.

It took these tech's about 3 hours to resolve my problem. Be prepared to be patient and have them repeat questions over and over, you will not be able to tell what they are saying, they speak fast, do not listen when you tell them to slow down. It was a session of repeating each question and what I needed to to at least 2 or 3 times. My experience was one very unsatisfactory. The only thing is it does work now.

You can get it done by calling support for Netgear, they connect to customer service in India which is a third party company with a completely different name. I paid $39.99 to give them remote access to my PC to be able to connect. It was so difficult to understand what they are explaining with very thick accents from India. The price I had was because my Router was within a 90 warranty period for the software itself, but not any tv support options. They did a remote scan of my system and did in fact connect the Vizio. I could not tell what they were doing to get it going. I would of let anyone know if I knew how they did it. They did mention doing a firmware update and at one point wanted me to connect my laptop directly to the router. I was unable to do this because my battery is missing and using ac power only, so to unplug and p... Read more

Looking for help on ad-hoc wi-fi network between Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop running Win 7 Ultimate and Nokia N79 running Symbian S60v3

I want to view live tv on my phone. A USB TV tuner card is connected to laptop which is in turn connected to Satellite DTH receiver. I can see TV in my laptop in Win Media Center and dedicated app provided by USB TV card maker.

I know basics - I have to connect phone and laptop via ad hoc wi fi connection. Run VLC player, select source and use rtsp:// protocol with .sdp extension.

I do all this but yet get unable to connect on real player in phone.

Pls share details about configuration settings of ad hoc connection ipv4 settings etc.

What am i missing?

A:Ad Hoc Connection between Lap and Mobile Device

At best I'll be of minimal help here, as there is so much I do not know about the phone and the special apps you are using.

For the ad-hoc wireless I recommend to get it working unsecured before trying to add encryption. You can leave it as a dynamic connection and then each device will be assigned an APIPA (169.254.x.y). This is a pain, however, because it takes a while for the two devices to get talking to each other and you don't immediately know the IP addresses in case you need to do some troubleshooting. So, I recommend assigning static IPs--suggest on one machine and on the other. Mask

When you think that the network should be working open a Command prompt on the laptop and

ping (assuming the phone was assigned that IP)

If you get replies you know you at least have one way communication.

If you have a non-Windows firewall or security suite on the laptop you may have to configure it for the desired access.

I Have An Hp Desktop With Video Integrated On The Motherboard Rather Than A Separate Video Card.

I Want To Have A Second Monitor So I Can View One Document While Typing Information From It Into A Report.

I Purchased A Usb Connected Second Video Device So I Could Avoid Having To Open The “box” And Deal With Inserting An Additional Pci Card.

The Manual That Came With The Usb Device Says That If Your Computer Has An Integrated Video On The Motherboard That There Is A Utility In Its Software That Always Sets It As The Primary Display Monitor.

It Further Says That There Is Also A Utility That Disables This “always Primary Monitor” Feature, And It Can Be Run By Clicking On The “safely Remove Hardware” Icon In The Task Bar.

The Manual States That The “usb Device’ Setup Must Designate The Monitor Connected To It Must Be Set As The “primary Monitor” For This Device To Work.

I Tried To Change The New “usb” Monitor To The “primary” In Windows Display Settings But When I Make The Changes And Do The “re-start” Windows Requires To Effect The Changes, The Original Monitor Always Appears As The Primary Again, As Indicated Above, In The Manual For The “usb Device”

When I Click On The “safely Remove Hardware” Icon In The Task Bar, I Do Not See Anything That Refers To Disabling The “on Board Primary Monitor”.

Going To Windows Device Manager And Clicking On Monitors, I Can See The Original Primary Monitor And The New “usb Monitor” And They Both Show As “device Op... Read more

Ok, here is they story. I got a new laptop and while it was on the docking station accidentally unplugged the cord. The computer froze and i shut it down and turned it back on, alright. Now I go to connect to my dial up provider and in the white action log box in the upper left hand corner I get the message..."the connection device assigned to this phone number or connection was now found". I can not sign onto the internet now . I do not know what happened here. I assume its something modem oriented...I don't know how to fix it or where to go to fix it. Please, all help is appreciated and detailed steps would help because I am a noob.

I encountered a problem with my internet connection and I believe it may have to do with DNS. I can't access the internet at all on my laptop, neither Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox work. I ran a diagnostics test and received this message: "The remore device or resource won't accept the connection." More details state that "the device or resource (www.microsoft.com) is not set up to accept connections on port 'The World Wide Web service (HTTP).' I've searched through many forums and tried countless possible solutions:

Resetting my computer
Power cycling the modem
Resetting Internet browser settings
Flushing the DNS via cmd
Releasing and renewing the IP address (Note: cmd is unable to renew the IP because it fails to connect to the DHCP server)
Disabling Windows Firewall
Checking for proxy settings that may be checked

I'm using a wired connection that goes directly to the modem, no router. An interesting thing to note is that I am able to connect to the internet via mobile hotspot on my Android phone. I've already contacted my ISP (Comcast) and they believe it's a computer related issue but through my trials, this doesn't seem to be the case. It looks like a DNS issue.

A:The remote device won't accept the connection

Oh, here is my ipconfig (I couldn't include it in the original post because I'm using my phone and the length of post ate up lots of memory)

Is there a way to monitor all device's internet connection into a log ? (computer, laptop, tablets and phone ... all in one)

Deeper explanation :

because I do not like AT&T DSL 5M internet provider, but that is the only company in this area that has it.
(no Hughes dish etc ... no)

anyway, I am getting sick of disconnecting and reconnecting ... not sure if that DSL is fluctuating ... or along the DSL lines thru houses/business re-wiring DSL ... or etc etc etc ...

how can I know whether is it guaranteed disconnected/Reconnected by computer or DSL or etc ?

I was playing a 8 ball tournament online and lost one match dues disconnecting (no, hack/cheat involved because I played on mobile)

only thing I noticed is that AT&T cellular data still connected forever without getting disconnected ... but I can not use data plan because of the limited bandwidth/data usage.

so, I tried nearly everything I can think of and researched hard ... and tested it ... I still can not find an issue, even DSL guy came here to check it out ... nothing's wrong here ... BS ... there is something, somewhere that is causing disconnecting and reconnecting ...

already did flush dns, clear cache, etc etc ...

I just need networking monitor log because I am can not watch all 6 devices and test it when disconnecting occurs ... I thought that is a great idea to pinpoint even further down, for example : laptop #2, tablet #1 and this computer gets disconnecting reconnecting when ... Read more

This isn't exactly a Windows7 problem, but I don't know where else to ask it.

I've purchased a small (single 2TB) network assessable storage unit - a Western Digital MyBookLive. I'm having trouble connecting the MBL device to the LAN. My LAN config is consists of an Actiontec GT701-WG router/DSL modem/ WiFi access point, a LinkSys 5-port ethernet switch, a Win7 desktop PC ethernet-connected to the router through the switch, a wireless-connected XP desktop PC, and a wireless-connected Vista laptop.

The NAS device supports UPnP so I can connect it directly to the router or any of 3 computers on the LAN - a Win7 desktop, a Vista laptop, and an XP desktop. The device is visible (but not necessarily usable) in each of thse cases. However, if I connect the NAS device to the switch nothing sees it. I've tried multiple ports on the switch (including ports that work for the PC) and multiple ethernet cables. Nothing works.

The NAS device supports 10M/100M/GB ethernet. The router and switch switch support 10/100MB (although the router reports it has a 10MB connection to my PC so maybe one of these devices doesn't actually support 100MB). When directly connected a PC or laptop the NAS device's ethernet status LED is green. When directly connected to the router it shows yellow. (I may have those colors reversed.) When connected to the switch the status LED is off. I suspect the color is an indication of the connection speed, and no speed has been determined whe... Read more
