Image doesn't show on thumbnail view for videos on my computer/win explorer!!!! Help?

Q: Image doesn't show on thumbnail view for videos on my computer/win explorer!!!! Help?

My problem is that in my computer with windows xp I used to always use the thumbnail view in the windows explorer to know which videos where which and also for images. But then my computer got all screwed up and I had to reformat it and install the windows xp again and downloaded all the new service packs and stuff.

But now, I go to either the windows explorer or my computer and for images I can see the thumbnails but for videos it only shows either the windows media or realplayer logo but no thumbnail image of the video. It is driving me crazy because I really need to be able to see the thumbnails in order to identity them fast instead of having to open all of them!

I have tried changing options in the folder options and everything and nothing works! Can somerone please help me out????????????????????? Thanks

Preferred Solution: Image doesn't show on thumbnail view for videos on my computer/win explorer!!!! Help?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hiya and welcome

Do you have the media files in a certain folder, say My Music, or jotted all over the place? The reason I ask, is that I have some in My Pictures, but they won't show as a preview, just the pictures will. But, if I move them to My Music, it works.

Do the media clips work okay, apart from the preview part?

I have a folder with about 20 images and 20 folders (with avi's, images, and txt files inside).

When I initially check the disk size (while the folder is being viewed in Icons View), the disk size reads 28,415,404,695 bytes.

When I change it to Thumbnail View, the disk size increases to 28,415,444,631 bytes.

I know it's only a 39,936 byte difference but I'm just wondering where this is coming from? When I change it back to Icons View, it still reads 28,415,444,631 bytes. How do you get it back to the original 28,415,404,695 bytes?

Hi, there, this is my second request on this one. PLEEZE help. I lost my ability to view thumbnails in Explorer. I've tried View, I've tried Customize this Folder, Web settings, etc. Please someone tell me how I can get back my Thumbnail view. I work with a LOT of images, mostly .jpg, and it's frustrating to open a folder and not be able to view them all at once. I have to view them one by one on the frame on the left of the page. I had the capability, but somehow it got lost. I have not installed any image program that would have taken it out. What to do? Thanks a million! Oh, and I have Windows ME OS.

Windows Explorer is not giving me a Thumbnail choice under View:

Also, in System Properties, Advanced tab, Performance button under Settings, when I check Show thumbnails instead of icons, then click Apply and OK, if I click the Performance button under Settings again, Show thumbnails instead of icons is unchecked. I can't get the change to take effect.

I suspect I changed something awhile ago but I can't remember what.

A:Windows Explorer has no Thumbnail selection under View

Hey Rich,

There wouldn't be a thumbnail preview setting in view. Instead, you would select either Medium Icons, Large Icons, or Extra Large Icons to be able to see thumbnail previews.

Go ahead and make sure that you have thumbnail previews turned on at both locations you mentioned to see if that may help.

A while ago I had an error on my PC saying that the c: drive was very low in memory. As a result, I went through a few steps of removing unused programs, defraging etc to clear up the drive. I now cannot see the thumbnails of pictures in windows explorer (i'm not sure whether this was as a result of the clean up or not). The thumbnails come up for a second and then go to the default blue icon.

I have followed all suggestions I can find on this forum and others such as checking folder options in explorer and in the performance settings, checking that windows photo gallery is default optionin registry editor etc etc and nothing has worked! Could the low memory on c:/ drive (a problem which has resurfaced again) be affecting this...?

Please help!

My Windows 8.1 64 bit started forgetting the view settings from a folder. So if I go in a folder and I set it to List-View for example, whenever I close that folder and I reopen it the view is set automatically to Details view. And this applies to every folder in my computer except Desktop. It drives me crazy, especially in my pictures folders.

Also with this problem another one came.I can't set a program to open some files,so the file associations for some files is broken. For example i can't set qTorrent to open torrent files. It just won't open them and the files apear as white documents just like I hadn't had a Torrent program installed already.I find it weird that both problems appeared together.
I previously had to reinstall windows on my machine, because of this problems. It worked normal at the begging, but today these problems appeared again.
I tried scanning SFC Scan with no result.
I hope I will get a fix here.

I like to navigate my media files in thumbnail view but didn't take to the changes made in vista & seven where the thumbnail is slightly skewed so as a work around to restore the view as shown in XP I convert folder images to .ico files 256x256 but have recently found new icon files I'm creating are 512x512 will 512 or 768 icons display better quality/definition in Windows Explorer or is Windows 10 the only operating system which makes use of them? Can I change a setting in Windows 7 to use higher resolution icon files what is the maximum they can use?

Thanks in advanced

A:Icon Files Displayed as Thumbnail View in Windows Explorer 256/512/768

256x is extra large icons size as far as I know :/
If they're bigger I have no idea what will happen it might distort but all of this depends on what your dpi is set at,
We'll assume is set as 100%
Anything larger would increase the size of everything and every where

In short, the problem I'm having is that when I open the Folder Options control panel, the only tabs that appear are File Types and Offline Files. I would like to change some other folder settings that normally appear under the General and View tabs, but they're not there!

Relevant Info:
Windows XP SP2 (completely updated)
No spyware or viruses
Logged in as an administrator
Tried safe mode, same results
Have restarted multiple times

The only other possibly important issue is that I recently replaced a stick of bad RAM in this machine that was causing flakiness. The machine is very stable now, but could this have affected Windows? I doubt it, but am pretty much out of ideas for what might be causing this.

Any help would be much appreciated. Also if anyone needs more info, I'm happy to provide it.

Thanks, Pete

See if IconShop or IconEdit32 either one will give you the option of associating .ico files, through their "settings" or "options". If you have an image viewer that supports .ico file extensions, you can associate them with it.

What is your default image viewer? If it has the ability to view .ico files, then you can associate them with it.

If you can't associate it through one of the programs interface, then you can do it through any Windows Explorer window.. Just click Tools in the menu at the top and choose Folder Options>File Types>then find the extension and change the program that opens it.

Using Win XP SP3. This morning, all the folders in My Documents, except Word Documents, are gone. Windows Explorer doesn't show them and Excel can't find saved spreadsheets and Picassa can't find saves photos. However, Nero does find all the files when I used it to see if the files could be accessed. Quicken also can find its' data files. I did mess around in the Folder Options of Control Panel yesterday to reveal hidden files in recycling that Trend Micro Antivirus said had trojans in them. I did not touch the files, I simply emptied the recycling bin. I have reset all my changes in Folder Options to the default setting. I am hoping the files are still there, just hidden or not accessible. Anyway to tell that for sure? I have a full backup from last week, and I could restore the registry to yesterday morning, but I don't want to do anything if the files are still on the drive. Thank you for any suggestions.

A:Win Explorer doesn't show My Documents

Maybe you inadvertently hide the folders. Open My Documents and in the address bar type something like My Music right in front of My Documents, for example; My Documents\My Music you're my music folder should appear. Now right click in an empty spot, select properties and uncheck the Hidden attribute and click apply. If this work, do the same for each folder.

This is a 1.5 TB USB 2.0 external HDD. When I connect the drive, it does not show up in Windows Explorer. However I DO see it in Disk Management as

Unfortunately, the only action available is Delete Volume. I would like to assign a drive letter, reformat, partition, etc.

A:HDD doesn't show up in Windows Explorer when I connect it

If the drive has been on a Linux PC, I'd probably wipe the disk completely to get any Linux code off of it.

I'm not sure if "delete volume" would do that. I'd likely use Diskpart's "clean" command in Windows or a third party application to wipe it. Then make a new partition and format. If that fails, try a "clean all".

I have been running XP PRO on the same custom PC for several years. One disk (IDE, secondary slave, 500GB) has 3 partitions; today win explorer will not display folders or files on the third partition (letter E, 270GB) of that drive. Other 2 partitions on same drive display properly and are accessible. I made a new test folder on E; it was accepted; but then it disappeared. I tried to make another new folder with same test name, it was rejected: ~"a folder by same already exists." Drive E is shown as "healthy" and its properties show drive 75% used, indicating data is still there. Attempts to copy folders/files from backup drive (fortunately copies of most data exist on another drive) give same response. Check disk dies in Phase 2: "Windows was unable to complete the disk check". I have searched net and not found any help. Is this a disk problem, OS problem, Windows explorer problem, or other problem? Are any obvious fixes available? Would a sector-by-sector clone to a new disk fix this? Thanks in advance for any help.

A:win explorer doesn't show folders on drive

If check disk failed, the chances are the HDD is failing. Has too many bad sectors in the E: partition. You can download the ISO image for Drive Fitness in my signature and burn the image to CD using IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and Advanced tests on the Drive. If there are any errors it can't fix, the drive will need to be replaced.

I know this is probably a very simple fix but I can't seem to remember it. When I open windows explorer (xp home) to view files and folders it is not showing me all of them. For example, under c:\documents and settings it does not show "local settings\..." and all the subfolders. And, when I installed Office it created an install cache folder but it doesn't show that either. How do I turn it on to show all? There is no prompt to "show hidden files". its probably something real simple that I am overlooking.

A:Windows Explorer Doesn't Show All Folders

I think what you are looking for is Tools (on the top menu)/Folder Options/View.
Scroll down and tick "show hidden files and folders. You can also "untick" Hide extensions..etc and Hide protected operating..etc BUT use with caution. These files are hidden for a purpose and should not be messed around with too much.

I'm using Internet Explorer (WinXP). I have not knowingly changed any settings. On various web sites, I am no longer able to perform certain things, such as register for a class or purchase tickets or log in. I suspect it's some sort of a cookie problem, although the settings look correct to me.

Some examples:
* http://www.ticketmaster.com - When I go to this web site and click on "Find Tickets" for anything, none of the windows show the BUY TICKET button - and the mouse cursor does not indicat that there is anything there. This used to show. It also shows on my computer at work.

* http://www.aol.com/ - I can no longer sign in. When I attempt to sign in, I get a dialogue box that says ENABLE YOUR COOKIES.

* http://www.uclaextension.edu - I can no longer register for classes. Nothing happens after I hit the SUBMIT button.

These are just several examples. All these started happening around the same time. All worked before. Any possible solutions?

Hey! Now I've got a problem of my own for you guys to figure out. Internet Explorer on my own personal home computer has been giving me trouble for the last few months and I'm finally tired of it.

Here's the issue: about 75% of the time, it won't show very small images on a web page. For example, this image: will usually show up as the red "X" (as well as very small images from any site). Now, if I hit refresh, I've got another 25% chance of them loading. On the other hand, if I right-click on one of them and choose "Show Picture", all instances of that picture on the page will appear INSTANTLY.

Ever hear of such thing?

Fresh install of Windows Enterprise 8.1
Connected PC to domain, logged in, drive mapping worked as it should.
Rebooted a few times after installing software that I normally install on my computers (from the same sources/locally from my file server, etc).  Rebooted a few more times all is well.
A few reboots later, the only drive that is mapped is X: which is my user drive done via the user profile in AD.  The rest of the mappings that normally show up done by the GPO no longer show up.
After some digging, and noticing no errors in any logs I ran NET USE in a CMD prompt window, low and behold the drives are actually mapped and I can access them via the CLI without issue.  I can navigate via their mapped drive letters, etc.
They just don't show up in Windows Explorer at all and I cannot navigate to the drive letters via the address bar.  Strangely enough, it still kinda works since the Downloads start menu item is mapped to a network drive and that still works (Q:\) and
Chrome can access it as well if I try to download something.
I'm really not sure what else to check/try here.
Have other Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines (my laptop) and all works just fine, so it's only this specific install on my desktop that is showing this issue.

This behavior just started within the past week or so. When I delete or move files in Windows Explorer, the files just stay in the right-hand pane. They DO get deleted or moved, but I have to hit F5 to refresh the view.

This never happened before, until about a week ago.

Any help?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Ken, Have you added any programs, or did updates just prior to the start of your problem?

I am no longer able to set .jpg files as the background image I only get a black desktop bacground if I do so (.bmp works alright), further the pictures folder & all other folders which used to show a thumbnail preview no longer do so I just see the file name preceded by a blank placeholder.

I have a problem similar to this thread

But this thread seems to have been closed without a proper solution.

Apart from this I also have a problem with online videos, i do not hear anything ! there is no audio being played with youtube, ..... . Actually windows media player & vlc player work fine but the startup sounds/ alerts no longer seem to be heard, even when the volume is increased i do not hear a thing (the usual beep sound is gone)

What should have gone wrong ?

Thanks for the help,
