I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a samsung n140 netbook running windows xp home. I have tried to add a Brother HL 2140 printer. I get a message stating rpc is unavailable because the spooler is not ready.. When I try and start that i then get a message saying the print spooler is unable to connect to the server. I then get an error 1053 message SAYING "UNABLE TO START PRINT SPOOLER SERVICE ON LOCAL COMPUTER". I am also getting a spoolsv error message saying it needs to close down. I have been in to services.msc and attempted to put the relevant services on start and automatic but still no joy.I am going round in circles trying to fix this so I can add a printer. Any easy step by step guide would be enormously gratefully received. Thanks

I've searched everywhere and I can find nothing that actually helps.

The problem: The print spooler won't start when my computer comes on or when I try to start it from the services window. I get an error 1053 which says it didn't respond in a "timely fashion."
Steps I have taken (none worked):

1. I reset my computer.
2. I opened Run and did "sfc /scannow" which scanned but nothing seemed to happen.
3. I booted from my XP Installation CD and chose to repair windows (it had recognized that it was damaged). The repair was successful and fixed a few of my other problems but no print spooler.
4. I made sure lexbces worked and ran properly (even thought it wasn't listed as a dependent).
5. I removed all traces of lexbces.
6. I made sure RPC was working.
7. I ran the Microsoft Fixit program for the printer spooler. On light mode it processed but changed nothing. On full mode it "failed to process."
None of these helped at all. The spooler still will not start and I get the exact same error. I can't install my printer and I can't even frigging SCAN (all I actually want to do, I never print) Because photoshop won't make a TWAIN for my printer and when I select WIA Support it says that no WIA devices are connected.

Have a Canon PIXMA MG6120 that's ~ 3 yrs. old. It has stopped printing from the large black cartridge. About 2 weeks ago, it started printing very faint or only partial black text, then nothing. Thinking it might be a faulty cartridge, I inserted a new one. Still not printing. Have done head alignment and deep cleaning several times. All the color cartridges work, black does not.

I have removed the print head and have it soaking in methyl alcohol. Don't know if that's going to do anything, but in the meantime, any suggestions from anyone who's had the same problem would be helpful (like washing the head in water with detergent; I've read threads where that was done.

A:Solved: Canon MG6120 will not print black

Having read more articles about clogged print heads, and the fact that there is nothing "electrical" in them, I decided to try soaking the print head in warm water containing some Dawn dish detergent. After about 4 hours, I removed the head and rinsed it thoroughly until I saw no ink coming out of the slots on the bottom. Replace the head and cartridges, did a realignment. The nozzle pattern printout at least now printed the black cross-hatch at the top, but it was not perfect (some lines missing). So I did 2 deep cleanings. The nozzle pattern printout is still not perfect, but when I print a document, it comes out perfectly.

In hindsight, I think the problem occurred because I was using a black (225) cartridge that was over a year old. I suspect the ink had "congealed" to some degree, clogging the head. I inserted a new cartridge, and everything seems to be A-OK.

I will mark the thread 'solved'.

I have a fairly new PC computer running Win 8 64bit. Initial setup went off without a hitch. Wireless printers and such all worked fine.

Now, I select "print" from Microsoft Word, or Notepad, or any program for that matter, nothing happens, i.e. no print que, no printer page, nada. My control panel shows several printers installed. I have tried to delete all printers to start from scratch, however, the printer icons pop back up as quickly as I delete them.

I tried to install a newly purchased printer, but a message was returned stating, "no printer spooler service running" or something to that effect. I then opened the service page and turned the print spooler "on' in automatic mode. Nothing changed. It still returns a message about "Print Spooler not running", even though it is turned on in the services page!

I might add that this computer is part of a home sharing network with two other desktop PCs. They both perform flawlessly, interfacing wirelessly with the two HP printers on-line. The other desktops are running win 7 64bit.

I am truly out of airspeed and ideas. Thank you for your help.

I'm running XP Professional. Junk print jobs keep showing up on my Brother MFC 7840-W printer. When viewed in the print queue, the file has no name, but shows a size of 87 bytes.

The printer is installed on my computer. My computer is set up as a print server. I am still able to scan, make copies, and fax from the printer, and fax remotely from my computer. I have restored my system multiple times. I had AVG anti-virus on this machine installed a while before this started happening. I tried installing McAfee Security. The Tech Support at McAfee said there is no virus on my machine and that I should contact the printer manufacturer. Tech Support at Brother said to delete and reinstall the printer drivers. I have deleted and reinstalled the printer drivers multiple times.

I do not want to reinstall XP Pro because it may mess up the setup of an important business application which is no longer supported by the software creator.

The print spooler chokes on both of my Windows 10 machines when trying to deal with certain pdf files. For instance when I tried to print https://thebasscase.files.wordpress....01/so-what.pdf via my browser (Chrome), it printed the first 6 pages, but the printer showed an error when it came to the seventh page. When I then tried to create another job just to print the seventh page, it just hung around in the print spool and nothing happened at the printer. I tried this several times on two machines. It was also impossible either to cancel the job in the print queue manager or to stop the spooler in the services manager in order to manually clear the print queue, which meant that the only way I could clear the queue was to restart the machine. I got the same behaviour whether I was printing to my physical printer or to the MS pdf printer. I also got the same behaviour when I tried to print from a different browser (Edge). This is not the first time I have had a problem with an unprintable file like this in Windows 10. Is there a solution?

A:Print spooler chokes when attempting to print certain pdf files

Chrome has had an issue with printing PDF's from the built in PDF viewer. There is nothing wrong with your printer, Windows 10 install or Print Spooler.

Save the PDF and then print from Acrobat if you need the pdf printed.

Google refuses to fix their problem.

If you open it in Firefox, it will print.

Hi,

I would suggest you can try doing System Restore to a date when your system was working fine. If you successfully restored your computer to a previous state, and the computer performs as expected, then Uninstall and reinstall the printer Driver and check the functionality of the printer.

If you are using windows 7 you can connect your USB printer by following few easy steps mentioned below:Plug in the printer, and ensure that it's turned off. Also, set up the printer with ink and paper and all that other good stuff, according to the directions that came with the printer.
Connect a USB cable to the printer and to your laptop.
Turn on the printer.
Since you're using a USB printer it installs software for you on its own. After the printer has been set up and recognized by Windows, you can either print or save some energy and turn the printer off.

If you're having trouble adding your printer, open the Control Panel and double-click the Printers or Printers and Faxes icon to display the list of printers available to your computer. The Add a Printer or Add Printer task can be clicked to run the Add Printer Wizard, which helps you complete the printer setup task.

You can even refer to the HP support URL mentioned for further troubleshooting: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-topics/printer-installation/printer-usb-troubleshooting.html

Share your comments if it solved your problem.

When printing from Word (or any other normal application) the documents just sit in the print queue with Status = "Error - Printing".

If I stop, then re-start the Print Spooler service, they then print.

Strangely enough, this does not happen if I print from the HP printer diagnostic utility.

I've done complete re-install of the entire printer driver suite and I'm pretty sure everything that end is OK. So what's happening with the spooler? The error message isn't exactly very revealing .

Any help gratefully accepted!

Welcome to TSG...What make and model is your machine? Which version and service pack is your Windows O/S? Make and model of the printer might be helpful as well.

Go to services again-double click the spooler service, click the 'dependencies' tab, and see if there are other services besides RPC which your print spooler requires. Some lexmark printers, for instance, require that a service called Lexbccs (not sure about the spelling) must also be running for the spooler service to start.

Ok here's my situation. We have a Windows 2003 Print Server sharing 133 printers with approx. 300 users. We have 4 Terminal Servers hosting about half of all of our users, which all connect to printers on the print server. We're experiencing extremly slow spooling on some printers on some larger documents (larger meaning 50MB). Other printers receiving print jobs from the thin clients via the Terminal Servers, get stuck in que. We end up having to restart the print spooler, printer or deleting the job. We have recently upgraded our memory (to 4gb) but with no success. The CPU's do not max out at the time of the problems. There are no unusual errors in the event log. Our C drive has 28GB of free space.
I had set up the server to reboot and auto-login weekly thinking that might help, which it has minimally. We're still experiencing problems with this and I'm all out of ideas. I wouldn't mark this as urgent, but the CEO's new secretary was trying to print a page from a .pdf and it took extremely long. She made sure everyone knew about it.
Thanks in advance!

Greetings

Look in your Event Viewer (Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Event Viewer) and look for an Icon with a red circle and a white cross in it. These are your error messages. Find the one that describes your printsvr problem and see what it says. If it still makes no sense, then post the full text of the message, plus it's Event ID number.

Searched this site for possible fixes and tried a number ... went into services.msc and tried to start the print spooler, including putting it in automatic, but said 'could not start print spooler service on local computer - error 2 - the system cannot find the file specified'. also tried adding a printer but window said print spooler is not running. also tried the MS 'Fix It' but that too failed. Everyone's sharing put me on the right track. Unplugged my printer from the desktop and power source. Rebooted and plugged it back in and YES it was working and all my printers were restored to my list as well. You guys are the greatest!!!!!!

Okay, so I have tried everything that is available currently even close to this particular issue; even a great video posted by this forum that I really thought was going to solve the problem but still did not.
There are currently no printers listed and there is in fact no printer option in the ‘Device Manager’ settings either. Could this be a virus? It occurred just after a Windows Update and upon the installation of Webroot security software from Best Buy. My Windows Restore is not functioning either.

Here is a list of what I have utilized up to this point:

I am currently running this troubleshooting technique and hopefully it will negate any response from this post: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824869.aspx

Please see the attached screenshots as well indicating some of the issues I have run into while following instructions in the above links.
If ANYONE has a solution to this problem please let me know.

Hi - First let me admit I've not read all the links you provided. You did say this issue occurred after a Windows update and Webroot installation. Have you tried uninstalling the Windows updates then reboot? You might try that because you can always reinstall. Same goes with Webroot.

Because there is not a printer in your Device Manager have you tried to install a new driver for your printer? It could be the Windows update does not play nice with your printer.

Good luck.

The other day I tried to print a file and got the print spooler stopped msg, did my best to follow all the great tips in a previous post (568893). I've removed all printer drivers, used cleanspl.exe to empty my print spooler, updated to Win service pak 3 so I could run fix-it. Didn't help, my spooler stopped itself before fix-it got very far and fix-it said I needed to restart my print spooler to fix the problem. I restarted the spooler manually and ran fix-it again and it said I have no printer installed. But of course I can not install a printer because the install software says my print spooler isn't running. I restart spooler again manually, try to install the printer again and the spooler stops itself, and my printer install software says the spooler isn't running again. Can't tell you how frustrating this is. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Running Windows XP and am trying to make a Canon MX 870 printer work.

A:Solved: Print spooler error

Problem solved, posted by Eric01 in another thread.

"go to start --> run --> type in "regedit" without the quotes, and from there you can navigate the
path that I gave you.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\PRINT\

then you check the providers folder and delete the ones that aren't the defaults.

Defaults are: LanMan Print Services and Internet Print Provider"

I then was able to start my spooler manually, reinstall my printer drivers, and am happily printing again.

Okay guys...I'm about ready to shoot something.
I've been at this for 3 full days. The problem is basically the Print Spooler keeps shutting off. I've done all the basics (i.e. set startup to automatic, subsequent failures, etc...). In the event log, there are 5 error codes the persistently show up that are the cause, but I don't know how to go about fixing them.
They are:

What happens when you run this Microsoft.com Fixit? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-printer-problems

Have you tried uninstalling the printer software for the Lenovo?  You may have to go into Regedit to the following key, to delete the printer from the Registry, if it does not remove when you uninstall the software HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows x64\Drivers

Sometimes updates for Windows cause problems, other times it is the mfg of the product, that screws things up.  There is no really easy fix, when it comes to fixing printer or scanner issues.

My problem seems to be so universal with Windows that I'm sure this request has been answered somewhere on this forum. I just don't know what to call it ?

What continues to plague me with MS-Windows print spooler is trying to delete a print that has already been spooled out. You go down to the task bar / open active printers / highlight the print you want deleted / Windows says it's in the process of deleteing the file.... and then just stops ! Ten minutes latter, Windows is still trying to delete the print. (And naturally, you can't print anything else in the mean time.)

Shutting off the printer doesn't help. Nor does rebooting or shutting of the computer. The pesky SOB is still there preventing anything else from being sent to the printer. And you just can't get rid of it. The only thing that's ever worked for me, was to make PrimoPDF my default printer and go in and delete the HP5500. Believe me, uninstalling and reinstalling is faster than the endless wait on the spooler as it "tries" to delete the print.

I've run into this on so many computer / printer combos I've lost count. If memory serves me correctly, this has been a problem ever since Windows 3.0 !

Any ideas of how to get rid of an unwanted print hung up in the spool ??

Thanks

Joe Ashe

What's the model name and complete model number of your HP printer?
What's the exact product number(P/N) on it?

What Windows version and bit number is your computer using?

Have you installed the software driver package for that printer?

I'll start by asking for any answer to be as low tech as possible. The print spooler on my computer isn't running. When I try to start it, I get "error 1068: dependency service or group fail to start." I have been able (through much trial) to
determine that the RPC dependency is running, but cannot determine the same about the HTTP dependency. Please help.

Hi!
I'm trying to install Adobe Acrobat Pro and it's need to run print spooler service. I'm getting a message "Windows could not start the Print Spooler service on Local Computer. Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified" and "Check that you have administrator
privileges". I have an admin privileges.
I checked spooler properties, the field "Path to executable" is empty (I think it should lead to system32\spooler\... but there is nothing). On the "Dependencies" tab,  says that the service is depends on HTTP and RPC. Both of that are running.
I've checked folder c:\windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ and there is nothing.  I have also check in registry in HKEY_L_M\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\spooler for any additional dependences; there is no any.
I don't know what else I can do.
Thanks in advance!

A:Cannot start print spooler service; error 3

The DisplayName and Description values are correct (I think that was what we were looking at before) but the ImagePath
value is missing.
I would suggest to create the missing value.
First create a Restore Point.
Then open regedit and navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Spooler
registry key and right-click Spooler > New > Expandable String Value > then name the value
ImagePath then double-click ImagePath and type (or copy and paste) the following under "Value data":
%SystemRoot%\System32\spoolsv.exe
Then press "OK"
Close regedit and see if you can start the Print Spooler service.

I am running Windows 8.1 and have recently downloaded a new printer to my computer. My home printer was a HP and was working fine but at work I use a Canon MF4800. I thought I could have them both installed and designate where to print based on my location home/work. However, now I keep getting the message that my print spooler isn't working. I have gone into services.msc and made sure that the designated places are running, but am still unable to print. In my device manager it lists the Canon printer in my software devices category, rather than under printers.?? There are no printers listed under the printer category. But is I go into add a new device, I can see both printers although both are inactive. I need to be able to access both printers.

Hello to all. I'm new to the forum and hoping someone can help with an annoying problem that means I can't use my printer. I have an Acer desktop with Windows 7.

I believe it's the print spooler being off that's the problem, but it won't turn on. I went to Services, and P S is set to auto, and if I try start it, I get am error message saying "Error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start."

Would be grateful for any ideas how to fix.

Hello, I am trying to install my new Canon Pixma MP 330 printer, and cannot install its software because of this error:
"Processing cannot be continued because the Print Spooler Service has been stopped."

It told me to restart so I restarted, which did not start the Print Spooler. I went to manage services and tried to start the Print Spooler, where it gave me "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."

I looked up its properties, where I found that it is set to Automatic. The Print Spooler depends on Remote Procedure Call (RPC), and hpdj00 depends on the Print Spooler.

HP deskjet 5700 series was my old printer. I already uninstalled all of the HP Deskjet and Officejet software using its uninstallers, and I force uninstalled it all again using RevoProUninstaller. After the uninstalling and restarting, I still cannot start the Print Spooler, and continue to see the hpdj00 dependency and Error 2.
I can think of two possible explanations:
1. In uninstalling the HP printer software and deleting the leftover folders, I accidentally deleted a Print Spooler file that I need. Everything can be reinstalled from the HP CD or restored from the recycle bin, so this should be reversible.
2. Some piece of HP printer software is STILL on my computer, disabling the Print Spooler.
I have an HP Pavillion a1101n, Windows XP Home SP3.

The HP printer programs I uninstalled are: HP PSC & OfficeJet 4.7
HP Deskjet 5700 Series
HP Deskjet Printer Preload

Hey everyone. Yesterday I tried to print a document and got an error that there were no printers installed. I checked and all three of my printers were uninstalled somehow...

I tried going to My Computer > Manage > Services and Applications > Services > and starting 'Print Spooler' but got the error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

From that point on, I have no ideas as to how to solve this problem. Please help =(

Hi,

While checking out the Event Viewer a few days ago I saw this entry:

The print spooler failed to load a plug-in module C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\UNIDRVUI.DLL, error code 0xc1. See the event user data for context information.

The printer is a HP C-5580 Photosmart All-In-One that I have been using for the last few years while using another computer with WinXP 32-bit.

First off ... I have to say I can get the printer to do most everything it did with my old WinXP. One of the things I can't do is check my ink levels as I could previously. I am just concerned about the above error message in Event Viewer.

The original software disk that came with it was for WinXP. However, when I hooked it up to this new computer running Win 7 it worked right away.
I tried downloading and installing a new Win 7 64-bit driver for it but got a fatal error while trying to install it.

I am wondering if I uninstall the printer via Device Manager and then reboot will the computer recognize it so I will still have a printer. Perhaps then it would ask me to reinstall the Win 7 64-bit driver I found for it.

Just curious if anyone has any suggestions as to how I might approach this error message.

Thanks and regards,

2harts4ever

A:Print Spooler error in Event Viewer

Hi again,

I did a little more research on this print spooler error message and discovered the following:

(1) It only happens when I try printing something from the computer from the 'Open Office' file folder.

(2) If I print something from the same folder but specify 'Open with' ... 'Word Pad' it prints just fine and there is no error message in Event Viewer.

I will keep searching for the fix but if anyone has any suggestions after reading this update I would be glad to hear them.

Thanks and regards,
