Q: ThinkPad T440p not charging

Hi, Yesterday my T440p suddenly stoped charging while battery is connected. If i disconnect battery it works like normal. I have tried uninstalling battery drivers. It worked for couple of minutes, but then it stoped charging again. Link to video tutorial. I'm using windows 10.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I've been using my Thinkpad T440p for only few months, When I plug in the charger, battery doesn't charge and doesn't show anything (as if the charger is not plugged in at all). - The charger itself is working.- If i removed the battery and botted the laptop with cahrger plugged in it works.- if the laptop is off and i plugged in the charger the battery will charge.- Whenever I plug in the charger while on battery, the power light blinks but without charging. I've tried to uninstall ACPI Power driver and didn't work, I've tried to update BIOS and it isn't possible as the update require both the battery and charger to be connected which is not possible. Please help

Good afternoon, I am currently having issues with my Lenovo T440p laptop being plugged in to the AC adaptor but the charging icon does not appear and it doesn't charge the battery. I have had this occurring a couple times over the past couple months and usually manipulating the power cord in the charging port of the computer works. The AC adaptor is all connected tightly in the outlet, computer and brick. My computer has now turned off because there is no charge and I am unable to determine if it is charging or not. I also do not have another device that fits the AC adaptor so I cannot determine if the power cord is malfunctioning or if it is the charging port of the computer. Is this something that can be repaired? Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time, Bonnie

Hello, I have reinstalled Windows 10 Pro with the ISO image from Microsoft. I had to, because after installing Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings from Windows Store and updating all the drivers (and 2 BIOS updates), my computer stopped working. Now my computer runs on clean Win 10 Pro and with the latest Business branch updates only. Yesterday the dreaded "Plugged in, not charging" problem has started (I've experienced it before on my TP E430 and I had to change the battery there). The battery is stuck at 79%. I emptied the battery two times, but it didn't help. Any ideas what I could to? I'd appreciate your help. Thanks.

Hi, My laptop died because the AC adapter wasn't charging the battery. The AC adapter makes sounds similar to chirping when it is plugged in to the laptop and to an outlet. Hi, I have a T440p running Windows10 (64-bit home edition) that I purchased new a few years ago and about a year ago I believe after a Windows update I started having the battery not charging problem where the AC adapter is plugged into the laptop but the battery isn't charging, and in fact while booted up only the battery is recognized, not the AC adapter (although the opposite is true when running off the AC adapter only). If I am running off the AC adapter only and insert the battery while booted up the laptop will suddenly switch to the battery as its power source and it also simultaneously stops recognizing the AC adapter as being still plugged into the the laptop. Initially I thought after doing some research on the internet my original battery was perhaps too old and I wound up replacing the battery twice with no luck. I also tried changing my AC adapter to the more powerful 4.5 amp version which I thought might fix the problem but that hasn't helped unfortunately. The battery charges fine (for all 3 my batteries now) when the laptop is turned off on either the docking station or when the AC adapter is plugged in and the battery holds a 3-4 hour charge when it is fully charged so I don't think I have a hardware problem. After going back to the internet and doing some more research I saw a lot of the same suggestions, reinstall the battery and AC adapter drivers in Windows (with various suggestions on how the reinstallation should proceed), change the power settings in ... I think my gpu and cpu is kind of overheating. GPU reaches at 47-50C idle, CPU temp stays around 58C-69C when in idle. When i use heavy task like photoshop and dota 2 game session it reaches cpu 90-91C, gpu 78-80C. Is it normal to heat like that? I used to have G580 and HP pavilion 15 before. But they never reached above 76C. If yes i'm planning to dissassemble and clean inside. Sorry for my terrible english.

  Hello,

I upgraded my lenovo thinkpad t440p (20AN00CBRI) from Windows 7 professional x64 to windows 10 . Now, after all the updates (provided by microsoft and lenovo) to the laptop I encounter the following problems :

>> the Power Manager aplication from windows 7 it's not present anymore on windows 10. I understand that on Windows 10 this it is not needed anymore but this is a big issue : " The CPU FAN is not working at the same speed like on windows 7 and It is very slow (!??!?!) " because of this the laptop heats very bad and it is very deficult to use specially for typing . :(
>> Another thing, I thing the heat dissipation in the design is poorly done for a laptop meant for business .
>> Also, the heat (left side of the laptop CPU, GPU and SSD ) always present by heating I mean > 50 Celsius degrees even in idle mode with the battery out from the laptop and no aditional software installed but only the default upgraded windows 10 .

Please let me know if this is " known heating issue with lenovo thinkpad t440p product code 20AN00CBRI " with this product. I want to get a replacement but hopefully without the heating problem . And let's not forget this is an expensive product designed for business ussage and it is kind of disappointment that it's not delivering the necessary fiability for a business product !!!

New ThinkPad T440p and the first issue I encountered is there is no option to disable the touchpad when an external mouse is detected. I don't want to do it via the bios or some other hack as I use the touchpad when it is not convenient to use an external mouse. So it should be able to do the switching as needed, this is a simple feature that other manufacturers have had for years and years.  I already upgrade the UltraNav Driver to the latest v18.0.7.57 and that didn?t present a solution. I am running Windows 7 SP1 - 64bit.

I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

You didn't say how old that laptop is and if it has the original battery and charger.

A laptop battery will lose the ability to charge and have burn time as it gets older.

I have a BRAND NEW ThinkPad P71.  The A/C adaptor is plugged into the laptop and the green light next to it is illuminated.  On the screen in the lower right hand there is the Lenovo Vantage battery icon showing the percentage of power level in the battery.  There is also the system battery icon in all white showing the same power level when you hover over it.  BOTH icons display, "plugged in, not charging" and I have confirmed the outlet my laptop is plugged into is working properly to supply power.  When I unplug the A/C adaptor and the battery power percentage reduces and after plugging the A/C adaptor back into laptop the battery power percentage does not increase. I have also done what Lenovo recommends which is to unplug the adaptor, remove the battery, and re-engage BUT nothing has changed.  For some reason the battery is simply not re-charging.  Anyone else have this problem OR does anyone know another solution?

A:Battery NOT Re-Charging for ThinkPad P71

Win7 or Win10?  Probably the latter.

Is the latest Power Management Driver (for 7/10) installed?  Power Manager (for 7) installed?

Barring a defective battery or some other hardware issue with your P71 (and worst case, it's under warranty so you can call Lenovo to open a ticket and get a technician to come out and solve your problem with appropriate parts replacements, whatever it might be), it might be that the software is simply deciding not to "charge" because of a battery plan agenda or Registry values set so that no charging is occurring (under software control) even though you've now tried to drain it a bit so that it really should have reached its lower-threshold to reactivate charging.

I recently learned of a Registry hack to set the low/high limits in Win10 to match the customizable values for the Lenovo Win7 Power Manager (which does not exist in Win10).  After installing this REG file Win10 battery charging behavior will work like it does in Win7 with Power Manager, meaning there is your own low threshold value above which no charging occurs but below which charging once again kicks in.  And then charging continues until the upper threshold is reached at which charging stops (thus avoiding charging all the way up to 100%, but stopping below it... say at 96%).  Curiously, Win10 seems to reset the primary parameter values of the REG file whenever a Windows Update is applied (e.g. overnight) or on other unknown circumstanc... Hi Andy,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

I believe you are using Windows 10, then you can use Lenovo Vantage to control the Battery Charge Threshold from there below is the referenced attached snapshot:
Open Lenovo Vantage>Hardware Settings>Power and then scroll down you'll get the option of Battery Charge Threshold.

I have a BRAND NEW ThinkPad P71.  The A/C adaptor is plugging into the laptop and the green lisght next to it is illuminated.
