Lenovo g550 @ and quote keys switched

Q: Lenovo g550 @ and quote keys switched

Hi, I just bought a brand new g550 and found the @ and quote keys are switched. Hitting the @ key produces quotation marks and vice versa. I'm new to notebooks and laptops, so please tell me whether I'm missing something, or whether I bought a lemon. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A few keys on my keyboard have switched, is there any way to get them back to their original settings?
Thanks,
Mark :)

A:Keys Switched

Let me guess, the @ and " keys to name two?

Your keyboard is set for English (United Kingdom) (or some other non-US version) instead of English (United States) (or vice versa. This assumes you want US layout).

Control Panel | Regional and Language Options
On Regional Options tab, select English (United States)
Click Languages tab, then under Text services and input languages click the Details... button
Under Default input language, select English (United States) - US
Under Installed services, highlight and remove any Non US entries
Click OK
On the Advanced tab, under Language for non-Unicode programs, select English (United States)
Under Default user account settings check the box to Apply all settings to the current user account and to the default user profile
Click OK

I want to do a clean install and replace the pre-installed Vista with Windows 7. I see that the Lenovo G550 download page has drivers for Windows 7, but where is the pre-installed software, like Veriface, camera software, and all other pre-installed Lenovo software? I looked at all OS options for the G550 on the download page, and NONE of them had the G550 laptop software, all they had for each OS option was only  the drivers. I understand that I can make a recovery DVD, but as I understand  it, it will return the system to the factory fresh state (all pre-installed programs installed, but also with the factory installed VISTA  - yuck!). I didn't see any option to only re-install the  Lenovo software without also re-installing the OS. When I look at the download pages for other Lenovo  laptops, I see that they have drivers AND SOFTWARE, but the G550 has no software except for the drivers. Since the G550 came with no software disks, and there doesn't seem to be any of the software online, how exactly does one do a clean installation of an operating system, and then re-install the Lenovo software, on a G550? I was able to find downloads of programs like Veriface on the Lenovo site for different laptop models, but unfortunately those were much older software versions, and for a different Operating system. Why can't Lenovo post all of the software online? If they aren't going to provide the software on DVD... Read more

A:Where is the software for the Lenovo G550???

A week later and still no software? Come on Lenovo, I looked through the forums and saw that I wasn't the only one looking for the downloads. The only thing I can find is older Veriface software for G530s, and that is 32 bit ( I need 64 bit) G550 owners need the software downloads for Veriface, EasyCapture and whatever else you installed on the machine. Why did Lenovo not provide reinstallation DVDs with the computer? Since this wasn't done, then you should at least provide us with download links for this software. There are a lot of folks waiting to upgrade to Windows 7, and they would like to be able to use their built-in webcams after a clean install of Windows 7. DELL provides both reinstallation Disks AND  download links; why is Lenovo incapable of doing the same?

I'm on ABOUT a $500 ... (not inc tax and not REALLY that low) ... budget, but that isn't SOLID though if I find something worth breaking my budget OR YOU suggest that I will be very happy with a particular item and I'd have to break my budget. I'm also trying to sell an old HP Pavilion just to generate a few extra bucks.

And I don't want to sound like I'm complaining so don't take it like that, but I'm in a wheelchair which is WHY I have to do work that I can sit down in, and I DO spend A LOT of time in front of my PC... so MY PC is very important to me... which is why I'm asking for your help with this.. Now, I want to do multimedia and a BIT of gaming. I'm going in to Media Design (maybe even GAME DESIGN itself) in school next year (this is why I need a new machine) ... so I need to be able to (for example) run TWO extremely CPU intensive apps at the same time.. like a multitrack mixer and a track editor (so I know I'm pretty much having to go with the duel core).

SO...

I already have a case (the simple black anatec one everyone else bought when it came out in '02) ... and they just have to put in a new PSU for me for the 64 bit mobo. I also already have piles of disk drives and a DVD writer that is just fine.

i would go with an intel core2 duo processor, asus 680i motherboard, and at least a gig of corsair DDR2 800 ram, in dual channel config. i reccomend two smaller hard drives as apposed to one big one, so you could run them in a fast raid 0 array. raid 0 combines the capacities of the disks involved, so two 160GB drives would give you single 320GB volume. as for the power supply...go with a name brand (that's important for pretty much all computer parts) known for quality, such as antec or PC power & cooling.

if you get a single video card, i would say get the antec neopower 550w, which is quiet, efficient, and supports modular cabling.

as for the USB usage you mentioned, your USB controller (mobo) is going to be the limiting factor in determining how much power can be drawn.

i would edit your post and remove your email address, this is a public webpage and can be viewed by anyone.

Hello everyone!
I own a Asus 1015cx netbook.
This problem i am facing since many days and not able to figure how to make my keyboard work properly again! I have tried like almost every method to get the keyboard back to normal but no method is working!
Searched on the web for the solution but nothing makes the keyboard back to normal!
The problem is the keys U and O are switched to left and right arrow keys and 8 and K are switched to Up and Down arrow keys! Some keys are not working aswell and i've tried almost every method formatted my netbook and tried every fn key combination nothing works!
Space and few keys aren't working aswell! I suppose this isn't a hardware problem because the keys are working properly !
The up and down arrow keys now work as page up and page down.
Any solution will be much appreciated!
Thank you!
I've attached pictures of how the keyboard looks like!

HELP....I have a Lenovo G550 that is running Windows7 and has been for several months! Anyway, it will connect to the internet via wireless, but it only stays connected for a few minutes. I have other computers in the house and they remain connected, so that leads me to believe it's not the router.

Thus far I've done a few odds and ends suggested on other sites to eliminate my problem, like taking the battery out for 30 minutes, changing the power setting....I ran spybot to see if there was some bug lurking around and none of that helped.

My 3ys old Lenovo G550 has stopped accepting power from the power jack. It's been fluffy for a while and has needed massaging to work, but now it's game over. It's doesn't with/without the battery. Been surfing around and partly concluded that it's a weak point in this design. Was on the Lenovo support today, and it will be too expensive to let them work the problem. Also learned that the power jack comes as a pigtail that can be purchased, but the laptop needs a total tear-apart to exchange the cable. Have not been able to find instructions/videos showing the needed tricks. Anyone in here that can help, or has experience with the same issue?

Sorry to hear this as I own a G550. My first thought after receiving and plugging power cord into it first time " what a cheesy weak and wimpy feel it had" - I've been waiting for it to crater ever since. Frankly surprised it has lasted this long. However, when it does, I'll not hesitate to tear that sucker apart to attempt a fix.

Good luck on getting it working. If you do find a maintenance manual, please do share.

Hello, I bought my Lenovo G550 model 20023 around 4 years ago. When I recieved the laptop there was not any operating system on it and the seller told me that this model does not have one. But now, after years!, by accident I came across this link that shows all the G550 series have windows OS preinstalled on them. My CPU is Intel pentium T4400 with 2 DDR3 gigabte of RAM. My hard disk is 250 GB. I could not find exactly a g550 laptop with these specifications in that link, but there are two models with the same CPU. Does my laptop have a windows os? If yes, can I take it back by lenovo company?

A:Lenovo G550 Model 20023 OS

Hi yashar2014, welcome to the forums,

the odf you linked to only contains models manufactured for the US market, I don't believe there was a document of this type for systems sold on the European market at the time.    You can tell they are US systems by the "U" on the end of the type / model numbers e.g. 2958-2CU.

Do you have a similar 7 digit type and model number on your system or any other identifying numbers except the serial number?  Do you have the Lenovo order number for the system?   I'm pretty sure there were versions of the G550 on sale in Europe with DOS preinstalled, no Windows OS.

The service center in my area stated that there is no product, and that I needed to pay them for installation plus the product. Sounds a little off.... If there is a product I can purchase to restore the seven (7) drivers, as I cannot access the internet from my computer at it's location and must go to a public computer. So, I've posted this a couple of days ago on the "Tools & Utilities" board, but haven't gotten any answers yet, so maybe I should be more patient. But, since this board seems to be slightly more active, I thought I'd try it here as well. Who knows, maybe some people with a Satellite S have experienced the same thing!

I've looked for an answer on google and on this forum for days, but haven't been able to find anything useful (especially in combination with 'windows 10', I have no idea if installing it had any effect in this).

I installed Windows 10 last week, and I'm not sure if that's when the "problem" started, but since yesterday I've been aware of the fact that the "special function modus" of the F-keys (i.e. the function in which you don'thave to hold the funtion key to access the special functions under the (former) F-keys) doesn't work any longer.

I've already tried:
- Restarting my system
- System Settings > Keyboard > Function key modus (but that was set correctly!).
- Tried any combination of Fn with any other key possible.

So I don't know what the problem is. Could it have something to do with the installment of Windows 10?

Details:
Toshiba Satellite S50-B-14M
Preinstalled with Windows 8.1, upgraded to Windows 10 Home last Tuesday

Thanks to anyone who can help me!

A:Satellite S50-B-14M - Function key and F-keys switched

I solved it myself! Turned out I just needed another obvious solution: reinstall the function key utility driver. Why didn't I think of that before...

I read there are some problems with updating drivers in Windows 10, so that was most likely the problem: the function key utility driver wasn't installed properly after the installment of Windows 10.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

So I had one of those TDSS Google Redirect virus things. It wasn't too much of a problem but it was irritating. Anti-virus things would automatically close a few seconds after I started any scan. So I figured that it would be much easier to just put it back to factory settings (I didn't have much saved any way).

So after the factory reset, during the Windows 7 Installation the mouse wasn't moving. Then I plugged in my USB mouse in and it started moving. I don't have a USB Keyboard so I used the on screen keyboard to fill out the rest. However when I try to use the inbuilt Keyboard and Touchpad they don't respond. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for both, I have updated the BIOS, I've tried using function and F8 all to no avail.

The keyboard works in the BIOS (I can select Safe Mode, etc) but not in Safe Mode or actual Windows.

BTW the laptop is Lenovo G550 if that helps anyone.

Can someone please help? Thanks!

Dear techsupport guys,

My keyboard has switched keys around in Microsoft Word 2003 so that when I hit SHIFT + 2 to get quotation marks ( " ) it now gives me an at ( @ ).
The other keys affected are:
# which gives me \
~ which gives me |

This is infuriating because it only happens in Word - this text box works fine. Also when I press CTRL + ' to get an accented e, it has stopped working.

Have I hit a setting by mistake?

Additional Information: I am on a laptop running Windows XP Proffesional, Service Pack 2 and in my inbuilt keyboard is apparently "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft PS/2" driver 5.1.2600.2180
I hope someone can help me its driving me nuts!

Many thanks,

Edo

Now, when I click the Bluetooth icon, click the adaptor on and then click 'Show Bluetooth devices', nothing really happens. The adaptor turns on and then after clicking 'Show Bluetooth devices, the search for locating bluetooth devices continues but no device is located. ( & this is when the bluetooth on my samsung mobile has been turned on).Earlier, it could easily located my cellphone. Similarly , if I try to browse files on my laptop by using the bluetooth on my mobilephone even then it doesn't work. I just get a message on the cellphone ie.  'connection lost'.I have carried several scans on my PC in past few days and the files always come out as clean so that's not a problem.I can't understand why I can't browse files when the bluetooth on both the laptop and mobile are switched on and both the devices are on discoverable mode.
Also, my hot key combination Fn + F5 does not show wireless settings menu now. However, it had been working fine for several months so this is a recent problem.
Please help. Thanks.

Hello,

I have Lenovo G550 with windows 7! It shows that the Internet is connected but the IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity says no network access. I updated and reinstalled drivers, typed in some cmd command and restarted computer with no success. I also called tech support and they had me go into safe mode, the Internet didn't work there so he said it was a driver problem but wouldn't help me fix it because I didn't have two hundred dollars. Also when I connect the Ethernet cord i get the same message and the other computer in the house is working fine. Please help! Thank you

Hello, first of all, here the necessary informations for my Laptop: G550 Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 2958 - Model 29588MGT4500(2.3GHz), 2GB RAM, 320GB 5400rpm HD, 15.6in 1366x768 LCD, Intel 4500M, CDRW/DVDRW, Broadcom 802.11bg wireless, 10/100 Ethernet, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Home Premium 32(taken from the lenovo page via serial-number) I'm trying to fix the laptop of a friend. He deinstalled a lot of drivers for some reason, and after that the laptop wasn't running anymore.I thought, sure no problem we just format the hard drive and reinstall windows. Unfortunatelly after formating i couldn't find the chipset drivers on the lenovo web page. I contacted the german lenovo support but they told me they do not provide the driver for windows 7, only xp and vista. I asked if it would work when using vista but he didn't know.  And now i wanted to ask if anybody could please help me with this. I thought the driver must exist because the laptop was bought with windows 7.  Or did they just use vista and it works more or less? Help would be very much appreciated, thanks!

Came across this site while searching for help on this problem.

Tom had same problem here:

http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/1012670-lenovo-g550-keyboard-mouse-problem.html

I have done a full Lenovo Factory recovery & had to use USB KB & mouse upon installation.
Have tried it twice - both were working fine & work in Bios/Dos.

Anyone have any idea?

A:Lenovo G550 Keyboard & Mouse not working after Factory Recovery.

What exactly isn't working? The laptop keyboard/trackpad, or an external keyboard and mouse?

If it's the internal, you may need to get the drivers from the laptop manufacturer. If it's the external, it could be USB drivers.

Have you checked Device Manager? Are there any devices with yellow ! ...if so, those devices need drivers installed.

I have been trying to fix a friends Lenovo G550 running Windows 7 Home Premium. The laptop won't boot and gives BSOD error "STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x887925C8, 0x88792734 ...)" the codes in brackets change each time. It then does a crash dump and reboots.

There has been no new hardware or programs installed recently (apparently).

These are the steps I have taken:
Boot in all versions of Safe Mode (same BSOD).
Boot to Last Known Good Config (same BSOD).
Windows Startup Repair (can't solve problem reboots to BSOD).
Windows Restore (can't restore).
Windows Memory Diag (no problem found).
Removed one stick of RAM boot (BSOD), replace and remove other stick of RAM boot (BSOD).
Remove and reseat HDD.

My instinct tells me it is a HDD fault. Does anyone have any other suggestions or is the next reasonable step to buy a replacement HDD and reinstall Windows?

Thanks in advance.

Good day all I have installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on an old Lenovo G550. It used to work well on Windows 7, but now I cannot install or update the display drivers in order to connect an external display (LG 49" TV) at 1920 x 1080. Windows installed its own useless drivers that obtains at least 1366 x 768 on both the laptop and the TV when displays are duplicated. Then the highest I can go is 1366 x 768. When I select "Show only on 2" (which is essentially what I want to do), it goes down to an even worse display resolution, but this also disables the Resolution drop-down.  I have downloaded every version of drivers know to God and man from Lenovo's and other sites, but all of them tells me: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirement for installing software." I have deleted the driver and reinstalled via "Scan for hardward changes" as well. I have done a Windows update as well. I have no idea what to do next. How do I fix this stupid problem? Please help me. Thank you in advance.Kind regardsRenier

Hello there. Yesterday, I bought the Ideapad 310-15isk, and it's phenomenal in many aspects. However, I'm a bit bothered by the extensive keyboard this laptop has, most importantly, the pagination commands on the arrow keys. I've been meaning to find a solution to disable those and just make them work on the Numpad since it's really bothersome to type on and then go all the way back because of the return pagination key. Is there any solution for this to unbind those commands only on the arrow keys?

Good afternoon, Not sure if anyone has seen this before. I previously used an ASUS laptop but have moved on to a Lenovo Y70-70 Touch Laptop. All of a sudden (22nd October) something happened overnight and when I used laptop next day it seemed really really slow and when used for football manager 17 (beta) the preference screen stated I had a really low quality graphics card. I then started looking more depth and notices that the desk top picture had reverted to the screen picture my old ASUS laptop had, which was simply a picture of the laptop itself. I have no clue how this happened or how I fix it. I seem to have lost a lot of quality the Lenovo laptop had and seem to have revert to ASUS on my new laptop

Hello all, I have the following problems with my Lenovo P50: 1. Lenovo ThinkPad P50 charges only when switched off. Charging light is switched off when laptop is switched on. 2. I removed the battery and plugged in the AC adapter power. The laptop won't switch on. The Ethernet lights switch on momentarily. Does anybody know what's wrong? Many thanks. Ioannis

Hi Guys, after about 10 years now, I switched from Apple to Lenovo. The lack of Skylake in their 15" and TB3 made the decision more then easy after a while. I waited a few months, but after the WWDC I couldn't wait any longer. First I thought I go for a XPS 15, but I'm glad that i didn't. I always had 13" Models (or similar sizes) and the last time I saw a Thinkpad in real life was a long time ago. I bought my 20EQS00600 online like it'll be ok. So I got it last friday and since that I'm very happy with my decision. I followed your discussions for weeks, also the talkings about the Display qualities which made me first felt a little bit uncertain. So it arrived and I was sure that this one would be bigger as my 13" MBP (no suprise) but it's way smaller as I thought. Possible my 24" Eizo gets jealous now. But there are a few questions left. I made a fresh Windows 10 install and I was installing most of the drivers with the Lenovo driver tool. Do I need the Lenovo performance tuner? Should I download the Intel 530 driver for the internal graphic from Intel itself or isn't that necessary? I think thats for now.

Dear all I am using a switched power connector strip for my PC environment devices (monitor, powered speakers, and the like) which is switched by a usb cable plugged into the PC. If the PC is off, there is no power on the usb port, so the connectors are all off which saves some electricity. Up to now I used a Lenovo basic usb 3.0 dock, where this worked flawlessly. Once the pc was switched off the USB power on the dock (at least at some usb sockets) went out. So I could switch the connector strip. I recently bought a OneLink Pro dock (in the meantime, and after a series of annoying problems, everything is up-to-date: Windows 10 drivers, dock firmware, Thinkpad BIOS). But there is one problem left. I first connected the dock to the Thinkpad, with the monitor attached and tried which usb ports would switch off power when the Thinkpad was off. When the PC was shut off only the one usb socket at the front (the one which is not labelled "always on") went off.  All others stayed on. Now it seems that out of a sudden /all/ ports stay on if the Thinkpad is off (completely off, not standby), also the one which was switched in the beginning. Only if the thinkpad is switched on, the usb power goes off for half a second or so and then is switched on again.  This is not what I want; I do not need all usb ports to be "always on", but only the one designed to be at the front of the dock. Is there a way to get the dock's u...
