Q: Ideapad Y700 Battery Drains Quickly

I got a Lenovo Ideapad Y700 about 5 months ago and recently I've been having the issue where my battery says it's at around 50 or 60% and then just drops to 7%. Not sure why this is happening. Does anyone have any ideas?!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got a Lenovo 320S a few days ago and started it up plugged in. Unfortunately at 100% it says it only has like 2 hours and 15 minutes remaining. It goes through the first 20% pretty quickly but then it slows down and goes up to 4 hours or so. I just left it there for a few minutes or so at 33% and it went down to 5%. Is the battery still stuck in Ship Mode? It's supposed to last for 7 hours. I don't think I can remove the battery and I have already tried an apparent solution where you press the power button for 90 seconds with the PC turned off and then you plug it in again. That does not solve the problem. I'll need to be carrying this PC around so it's pretty urgent.

Hey everyone,

I have Windows XP SP2 on an Acer Aspire One A110, 512MB Ram 8GB SSD, Intel Atom, 1.6GHZ Processor, 3-cell battery blah blah...

We'll i used to have 2:47 battery life etc. I have a USB Mouse but the USB is only an adapter not one of those massive hub things... I've decresed my brightness to it's darkest, muted my speakers, cut down on as most apps as possible (Firefox and MSN and ManyCam only running.) I've also applied that hotfix which was supposed to help, but no luck. When i run on battery I get 1:26...MASSIVE difference. I don't think its the battery as I put my brothers battery in and he gets 2:30 on his battery but when it was on my laptop it went to 1:57 Don't know what to do...I don't have an anti-virus EITHER because i was so mad on getting my battery life back up.

Thanks

A:Battery life drains quickly!

Most likely your battery might not bre charging fully due to the A/C adaptor plug may be loose and or the connection on your board is loose (common problem with laptops). Another thought is that over a period of time laptop batteries get weaker due to their nature. It may be best to take your computer to the shop and let an expert technician look into this. Really doesn't cost an awful lot...If you are handy you may be able to check this out yourself but sometimes laptop cases are a little difficult to open (without damaging)...I know from experience (cracked my Sony Vaio case when trying to attempt fixing the very same issue)...

Hey Im the almost happy owner of and Y700-17ISK, but Im having issues with the battery. If im watching a movie, or playing a game, meaning the laptop is on for ~2h or so with heavy usage, charger is plugged in. At some point it will shutdown unexpected, I can then power it right back up and now it will run on the AC adaptor. It does remember where i was in the game or movie, so its not a complete shutdown. This time however, Im sitting at a battery on 0% power, and it says not charging. Uninstalling the battery drivers from hardware management, have not helped. So im stuck with 2 problems: - Laptop drains battery to 0%, then shuts off -> turn it on, and it runs on battery.- My battery is now at 0% and wont charge. What do I do?

A:Y700 ISK drains battery, then shuts off.

Just a follow up. I tried using the AC adaptor of my friends laptop Lenovo Y70 Touch. It now goes straight to charging no issues. My laptops AC adapator however wont work on his Y70, it doesnt even recognize it as plugged in. This got me wondering....I bought a demo laptop from the store showroom, at a great price though! But it came without the box, only laptop + charger. It came with a 3.25A adaptor, his Y70 came with a 6.75A adaptor.Im sitting here thinking, how can you run an i7 + 960M and charge a battery on ~65W ?

I have my lenovo x230 laptop set to sleep when I close the lid. When I close the lid the "sleep" icon on the back of the screen lights up. But the batter will not last through the night on sleep mode. Within five hours or so, the battery is completely drained and I have to plug in and boot up the system. I've never seen such poor batter performance during sleep mode on any other laptop I've ever owned.  Another thread in this forum blames the USB port that allows you to charge mobile phones/etc. during low-power states and recommends disabling the "always power on" option fo this USB port in the Bios settings. I've done so, be it doesn't seem to have helped. At least my laptop still will not make it through the night in sleep mode.  At this point, it seems my ownly option is to use sleep mode only when the laptop is plugged in and hibernation mode when on batter power, which is disappointing. I've never had to worry about this in the past with other laptops.  Perhaps/probably related is the fact that the lenovo ThinkVantage Power Manager (v. 7.16) hangs at the splash screen when I try to open it, so I've been trying to manage the power through the windows control panel power settings.

Hello!  I just  purchased my LENOVO ideapad 310, a month ago. During my observation on its battery since I got it, its discharging time takes atmost 1 hour and 45 mins while its charging time takes atmost 4 hours. Given the fact that I am not using any application or software, it's not even connected to internet, just leaving it open, it drains so easy. I know its battery is below average but given the fact that its charging time consumes more compare to discharging, i am beginning to wonder if its still normal.  Your answer will be deeply appreciated thank you!

My ideapad laptop has had decreased battery life since the end of last summer.  I chalked it up to playing too many games for an extended period of time - leaving battery and AC adapter in for days (in hindsight, bad idea, but I didn't want to crack it open quite yet). After running some tests here and there, I figured probably the best thing to do was replace the battery.  I had previously had to replace the AC adapter for a very minor issue, but I bought the replacement from Lenovo.  I also bought a new replacement battery from Lenovo. Today is the first day I've placed the battery in the laptop (it's been boxed for a few months while I've been at college).  While there is a drastic increase in performance (the old battery would last maybe 45 minutes at BEST on power saver mode), I am still only getting maybe 1.5 on my new battery.  I've tried updating the battery driver.  I tried updating the BIOS, but I'm getting an error which says something along the lines of the rom is the same, leading me to believe my BIOS is already updated. I've tried calibrating the battery using this guide by howtogeek.  (edit)  I don't think it's very effective, as I still see sometimes the time suddenly drop or increases, no steady prediction of time, and the percentage seems to drop very quickly as soon as it is unplugged.  I am not sure when or if it levels off. Is this an issue with calibration or capacity?  I ha... Hi, I have 2 of these laptops and one has a battery problem. In Win10 it shows that it can only charge to 93%. I can leave it for few hours and it will still only say 93%. If I take power brick from the other (that can charge to 100%) charging stops at 94%. The light indicator is white when on 93% but the % in windows indicator is bothering (not to me, but to the user). I think that there is a problem in Win10 indicator (since light indicator lights white), but even formating (and converting from Legacy to EFI) didn't solved the problem. Is there a problem with battery? EDIT: At what % does LED turns from orange to white? I checked indicator for white LED when laptop was turned off and charging. So I can't confirm if it charged to 100% and if it charges to 100% when turned on.

Hi I recently bought an Ideapad Y700-14isk. The model is 80NU000WUS. I am having issues with the battery. Since the first day the battery life has been very poor. While using windows 10 power saving settings, and also graphics options set to power save, I am only able to get 1.5-2 hours when running minimal programs and no games. I just use chrome to study but the battery life is incredibly poor. Has anyone else been having issues with the 14" version? I was wondering if the battery is upgradeable to a higher capacity, and where I could possibly buy one from. I understand its a gaming laptop but 2 hours on a full charge while studying power point slides in the chrome browser is just too poor for me. Please let me know if any of you have this issue, and if there is a way to buy a higher capacity battery. Any input helps. Thanks in advance.  I spoke to tech support twice and both times they seemed very clueless. Not helpful at all.

Hello. I have a 3yr old Toshiba Satellite laptop that I use every day, on avg. 8 hrs per day for school. The battery used to last about 2.5 hours without needing charging. In the past couple weeks, it only seems to last about an hour before needing to be charged.

Even more troublesome is its action when the charge is gone. I have set the power settings to pop up a notification message at 22% battery level and take no action, then at 10% battery level, pop up another message THEN go in to hibernate. However, last week it would give me only about 20 seconds' notice of a critical battery level, then it would hibernate. It wouldn't give me any notice before the critical level.

Now, it has taken to just hibernating, with no warning notice whatsoever. I could keep it plugged in all the time, but my concern is there's something more at issue that will get worse over time. I don't need any crashes at finals time.

Any suggestions? Could the battery need replacing? Thanks.

Hi, I've been having some trouble with my HP Spectre x360 battery draining while powered off (completely off, not just sleep mode or hibernate), but I couldn't find much online about it. It's been happening for a while, but I only recently paid attention enough to realize that almost 10% of the battery drains in about 12 hours while off. I've tried running the battery component test on the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, and that passed, saying the battery doesn't need to be calibrated. I know batteries usually drain while the pc/phone is powered off, but from what I've found it shouldn't be this much. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

I have owned a Spectre x2 12 myself and then I purchased one for my wife. I also recommended this system to my uncle who bought one. I must say that I have been happy with the performance and build quality of these units. However, there is one glaring issue with them that HP seems to be totally ignoring and in my opinion it is a deal breaker. I have since sold mine and am looking to do the same with my wife's system. I have recommended to my Uncle that he should do the same thing. What is this one glaring problem? The system discharges the battery even when the system is completely turned off. We have tried all the recommended things on all the HP and 3rd party forums to fix the issue but nothing has worked. We have tried everything from turning off fast boot and USB charging in Bios, to updating the Bios and all the drivers, to making sure no WiFi dongles are connected to the device when turned off, and even separating the keyboard from the device when it is turned off. Nothing has solved the problem. On one forum for an HP spectre x360 there was a fix offered which allowed the user to update the M.2 hard drive bios which fixed the problem the same problem for those systems but no such fix is offered by HP for the Spectre x2 12. I suspect that this system along with many other HP systems are suffering from the same issue of the M.2 not completely shutting down when the device is turned off which allows it to slowly discharge the battery. Is it normal for a Thinkpad T470 to drain battery after it has been shut down completely? I first observed this after not using the notebook for about a week. After switching it back on, the external battery had lost more than 10% charge, while the internal battery's value hadn't changed. Curiously, while using the notebook, this behavior is reversed, i.e. the internal battery is discharged first. Things I tried so far: Disabled Wake-on-LANDisabled USB chargeDisabled Thunderbolt deviceDisabled the fingerprint readerDisabled Fast BootDisabled all wake events and timersChanged power planPerformed a full shutdown via shutdown -sUpdated BIOS and Embedded Controller to latest version availableResetting Windows to factory defaults I also ejected the external battery and disabled the internal battery before shutting down to make sure that they don't discharge by themselves. However, no drain occurred under this condition. Effectively, none of these options have helped. The external battery still loses approximately 2% charge every 24 hours.

Hello All, I have been having some trouble with my battery on my new laptop (which I got less than 6 months ago). It is an HP Envy 15t touchscreen, and the battery doesn't last for more than about 2 hours. I've tried some basic fixes, like decreasing brightness, but that hasn't really helped. I've also noticed that the fan runs pretty loudly for long periods of time (I just timed it, for example, and it was making loud noises for 15-20 minutes straight). Finally, recently the laptop will freeze for a couple of minutes (it will usually freeze when the fan starts running). Like I said, this is a relatively new laptop, and I don't use it all that much (maybe a couple hours of browsing a day, and a few hours of streaming over the course of a week) so I'm not sure why its having this problem. When I first got the laptop, I was getting about 6 hours without charge. Now, for example, it dropped from 100% to 84% in about a 20 minute span. Any help on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Battery drains fast on new laptop

Measure, measure, measure. If the fan is speeding-up, it's because the motherboard has detected "excessive" temperatures, and has increased the fan-speed to try to cool the computer. What causes those temperatures?  Basically, the CPU is working "hard", and generating extra heat. Use the Windows "Task Manager" and/or "Process Monitor" to see which tasks are consuming the CPU.
