Q: Popping sound from keyboard/trackpad after using for a few hours (2 month old 13.3" Yoga 720)

Hi, Has anyone else experienced an infrequent but dull and audible popping sound from the keyboard after a few hours of usage? Seems like some parts are expanding unevenly and releasing the built-up stress. Is this normal? Thanks, will

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, i work in a school and the majority of our students use the Yoga 11e laptops. Recently we have recieved a few with keyboards and trackpads that seem to be disabled. My guess is that the laptop is stuck in some sort of "tablet" mode that triggers when the screen is flipped fully back.  Any help with this issue would be very much appreciated, thanks!

A:Yoga 11e disabling trackpad and keyboard

Hi JamesOasis.
Welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of the machines? Are you using Windows 10 ?

Let me share some ideas.....

Tablet mode on Windows 10 does not disable the trackpoing or the keyboard, if the computer is on Laptop layout. (not bended)

Let's try to see first if it is a configuration or software issues.
Check out the "Control Panel - Mouse" and see the "Thinkpad" tab. See if the trackpoint is disabled, just in case.

After that I will check the Mouse driver.
Check the support site for the Yoga 11e:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...
- Search for the mouse drivers, and just in case install the latest version.

If that does not work, I would get into a firmware and driver update rampage
Check out any BIOS update for the computer and be sure to use Windows update to be on the latest level. Check some other drivers on the Lenovo support site that may need to be updated.

This are only some ideas... let us know if you have any progress.

Regards

So I booted my PC after an update the other morning and the keyboard and trackpad weren't working. I tested the brightness keys on my keyboard and they still worked so it couldn't be a hardware issue there, and my mouse still worked so it was just the trackpad that had something wrong with it. The trackpad has a driver error (code 10) but the keyboard says it's working correctly. Here's what I've tried in hopes to resolve the issues so far: -Reinstalling trackpad drivers -Uninstalling both trackpad and keyboard drivers then restarting -System Restore -Chkdsk on both drives -A trick I read on these forums where you flip the device into tent mode, then after a few seconds flip it back round to laptop mode. I am utterly confused as to what's wrong here as nothing has even slightly helped my problem. Any help?

Problem: It seems as though my brand new Thinkpad Yoga 12 doesn't know that it's in laptop mode and turns the keyboard and trackpad off as soon as the log in screen (Windows 8.1) comes up.   But if I lightly press the screen back, both come back to life. I let go and they switch off immediately. I also found out that if I put something under either one of the front corners of the laptop, the keyboard and trackpad work and stay on for longer ... with 90% success rate.   What's weird is that when I go directly to the BIOS, then the keyboard works perfectly, which gives me the impression that it's a sensor problem.   Touchscreen works always and perfectly.      Previously troubleshooting attempts without success: Re-install all drivers. (Keyboard, sensor, etc.)Update all drivers.2x 8.1 Windows reinstall. All (non-Microsoft) services off.Sensors and HID keyboard off / uninstall.Safe Mode      System Details: Windows 8.1, BIOS Version 1.03, i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Wacom Digitizer etc.

It is not happening when i use an external board. When it happens, i have to either wait, or to move the mouse a little bit with the trackpad (i usually only use the trackpoint) ant then in starts reacting again.  Quite annoying, as i use it to evaluate it for business, and i really like the device exept of this annoying problem.  Best regards and thanks for the help!  EDIT: The title was somehow bogus!

Simultaniously my keyboard backlight, touchpoint and trackpad stopped working. They do not appear in device manager and reinstalling drivers did nothing. On Lenovos advice, I purchased replacement palmrest, trackpad, keyboard etc and fitted them successfully but this has made no difference. Could it be a power management issue? I've updated PM drivers. Motherboard damage? As far as I know no water or physical damage has occurred.

i have searched through the forums and have not found a decent solution for this problem.  When I power on my laptop from off, or wake it from sleep, I will randomly lose functionality to either the Touch Screen, or both the Keyboard and Trackpad, or at other times I will lose functionality to all three.  Other times all three regain functionality and work perfectly fine until the next time it sleeps or powers off.  I see the keyboard and trackpad in Device Manager at all times, even when they don't function, on the other hand, the touch screen with swing in and out of Device Manager, The touch screen works 100% of the time it shows in Device Manager, and fails to function 100% of the time it does not show.   Any Ideas Why?

I've got a real freaky problem here. I searched the threads, but I didn't see anything that even looked close to what I'm talking about. On to the problem:

A few months ago my computer just seemed to die. No warning, no known reason, one second I'm looking at the regular screen, the next it has reset itself and can no longer get anywhere. It never makes it to post, let alone past it. The standby light on the monitor stays orange, and the CD-ROM drive seems to stay active, but that's all. This is what happens for the next two or three days until I finally give up on it.

Flash forward to last night. I turned it on more by accident than anything else. Amazingly, it works like normal. goes to the windows screen like a champ. about an hour into trying to figure out what was wrong, it resets itself. This time it goes all the way to the windows screen again, but it resets itself almost as soon as I click on an icon. It continues to reset itself like this a few more times until it finally goes back to the original problem of not booting up at all. The only symptoms I've been able to see are the CD-ROM light is continuously flashing, the monitor doesn't come out of standby, and there's a strange clicking noise. The clicking seems to show up at a rate of two clicks per second.

From www.viahardware.com/ibm120gxp.shtm :
The revelation that IBM?s 120GXP line of drives was only rated for 333 hours of usage per month kicked off a storm of controversy and discussion both here at VH and at other websites as well. With little actual data to go on, however, speculation has run rampant and official response has been scarce. VH launched its own investigation into the issue with the goal of examining IBM?s claims regarding the 120GXP?s optimum usage, whether such claims were sufficiently documented, and how consumers may wish to respond to the situation. We?ve organized this article in a question-and-answer format to allow for simpler organization and easier reading, with the questions themselves designed to walk a reader through the situation.

IBM, unfortunately, would not provide additional information or official comment on the 120GXP situation, despite repeated phone calls and requests for data.

I want to remove the monitor, basically gut it, and turn the keyboard and trackpad of my laptop into a keyboard with built-in mouse for my desktop. It's an old laptop that I was thinking about throwing away anyway, so I might as well turn it into something useful.

My desktop is right next to my bed, so I sometimes swing the monitor around and put the keyboard and mouse on the bed. But it's damn hard to use a mouse when you have bedsheets and blankets and other stuff that's soft as a surface.

Also, I can't have any compatibility problems, it needs to work with all 3 systems in my house that I may want to connect it to. Mac OS, Windows XP/Vista, and Linux (Ubuntu and Fedora)

I have a new X1 Yoga 2nd Gen and the track has the following problems with two finger scroll. 1 When scrolling with Internet Explorer or Edge it scrolls smoothly but then the page will start jumping up and down. It often does this during a smooth two finger scrolling stroke. 2 When scrolling through a text document, directories and most things that are not browser related the effort and number of strokes with my fingers required goes up hugely. It is like the page is stuck and difficult to move. I write software so scrolling through documents with various editors and android studio is part of my daily work. I have the latest Bios, latest drivers and Windows is fully up to date. I reported the fault to Lenovo and they signed on to my computer and agreed there is a problem. They offered to swap the laptop or to get an engineer out to replace the touchpad. When I told the consultant that this is the second X1 Yoga laptop I have had because of this problem he said it was probably a bad batch of hardware. I doubt this as it seems more like bad drivers. Does anyone else have these problems? I am currently using a Thinkpad T420 which I think is perfect machine in all ways but just too slow now. Phil

I recently (as in, yesterday) bought myself a Yoga 710-14IKB. Straight out of the box, I found that the trackpad didn't work as it should. The side of my thumb, i.e. the way I would naturally click, simply won't work with attempting to left-click except on the rare occassion. Attached is an image to give you the idea--I'm not certain I described it well enough.I returned the first one, thinking it might be a hardware problem when updating and deleting the driver did nothing to help, but the replacement does the same thing. It seems like uninstalling Synaptics does show that it's not a hardware problem, but obviously leaves you with a sluggish cursor and no scrolling. It runs on Windows 10 and uses Synaptics Pointing Device v. 19.0.17.116, I'm assuming it's an issue with either Windows 10 or the latest Synaptics driver, but rolling back did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue? Any remedies out there? I can adjust to clicking differently, but I'd prefer not to. I'm very set in my ways, you know.

This may work for others that have the same material the trackpad on the Yoga 2 Pro is made from... I had noticed right aways that the trackpad on my Yoga 2 Pro looks oily/shiny/blotchy after a little use, and have been trying to track down a source for a vinyl or skin to protect it.  So far I haven't found much other than full device skins. In doing so I decided to use a piece of clear packing tape to clean the trackpad and was surprised that not only does it remove dust, but it makes the trackpad look like new removing any oil/buildups on it. Since I use the screen and a mouse now, I like that I can have the trackpad looking pristine until I find a source for a vinyl or skin to protect it.... if only they used glass instead like the mbpro...

I recently cut over from my X1 Yoga Gen 1 to the Gen 2.  I have used ThinkPad for 20 years and I never use TrackPad--always disable in BIOS.  Now I'd be working fine with it disabled however I recieved several BIOS update notifications, which I accepted.  I had no luck getting the two new P27h's to work via DP chaining...  Well good news as this fixed that issue however after the BIOS update the TrackPad was active.  I double checked BIOS and it was disabled (that said I was unable to F9 and reset to BIOS defaults, ended up disconnecting the CMOS battery and pressing reset)...  BIOS setting cleared and I was then able to reset to BIOS defaults using F9.  I made sure TrackPad was disabled, restored my time/date and other settings and booted into Windows 10.  Arrrrg that stupid TrackPad was still active!  Unfortunately when I go into Mouse settings there is only check box to enable/disable TrackPoint, nothing at all to disable/enable TrackPad--just a silly link "Windows Precision Touchpad Settings", which opens the Synaptics Control Panel--again, there's no relief to be found in there (the Advanced Settings takes me to the same place as the link).  There's no uninstall that I can locate in Add Remove Progams or even in the C:\Program Files\Synaptics subdirectory.  From device manager under HID I found Synaptics and Uninstalled + delete drivers...I hope someone can please help here...Pete

Yoga 900 trackpad began acting erratically within last few weeks.  Even though "activate by hovering" to select is turned off, the cursor acts as if its randomly auto selecting and clicking functions, making it impossible to operate.  A dirty fix is to deactivate "tap to click", but this eliminates an important functionality and increases work effort.

The synaptics driver hasn't been updated in two years.  A crude suspeicion is that system updates intended to support precision trackpads are intefering with legacy (i.e. non precsion) trackpads.

I've tried all the fixes (reinstalled driver), reduced sesitivity on trackpad, confirmed all updates are current, etc.

Any insight or suggestions?

This has been plaguing my Yoga 900 since I bought it and only gotten worse over time. I don't have tap to click enabled, so I have to click the trackpad down to do a left click. However, sometimes the click is not registered and other times it registers as two clicks. Is there any software setting to reduce the effects of this, or at least make the double clicks not happen? I tried reducing the double click interval and that hasn't helped.

Hello, When I put the Laptop in Tablet Modus the pointer and the trackpad are automatically disabled. When I want to use the Laptop function again , I simply put the the laptop slowly in its initial position. Here I have the problem that the trackpad is still disabled. The only solution that I have found so far is to restart the computer.Restarting the computer is not a convinient solution. Can you please advice? I have downloaded the userguide and I am sending you in the attached file the proper explanation of "disabling trackpad" when changing the modus. I would be very thankful to read how to enable it again. Thank you in advance!Angelina

I'd like to use my trackpad solely as one finger click for primary, two finger click for secondary. I've set it this way in options (disabling corner click). However, it appears  that I cannot left/primary click in the bottom right area of the trackpad, nor can I two-finger click in the left bottom area of the trackpad.  Are the bottom left and  right areas of the trackpad seriously hardcoded to left and right click? Need to find a way to fix this ASAP as it makes the usable portion of the trackpad very tiny. Tons of unregistered clicks as well. Thanks

Dear Community, I bought my Yoga 920 this week and comming from an 2011 MacBook Air, I'm really struggling with the trackpad clicking everytime I tap a little too hard (in the normal motion of moving the scroll across the screen.I searched everywhere in my computer and over Google, and can't find a way to turn off this feature. I've seen that Lenovo's older models with Synaptics drivers have the option to disable tapping over the mouse's hardware proprieties, but that's not the case for this model (I can't even find a driver for this trackpad). Any ideas on how to disable this trackpad tapping? Much appreciated.
