Solved: Excel/Task toolbar problem...

Q: Solved: Excel/Task toolbar problem...

Posted this on another forum on this site and didn't get a solution.., come on Bomb#21 etc - don't let me down...

I have attached a screen shot which shows 3 programs running on the task bar at the foot of the screen.

Immediately prior to taking the screen shot, I had clicked on the middle program button which read "5 Microsoft Outlook", as (for the slow of mind) I had my Outlook inbox open and 4 mail messages/attachments open. The 5 Outlook 'files' were then displayed at the foot of the screen and I could click on any one to switch to it.

To the right of the Outlook button I have an Excel button which doesn't tell me how many Excel files I have open (there were actually 3 at that point) and (here's the problem !) doesn't allow me to click on the task bar button and click again on the file I want to switch to.

It's not a major problem, but it is a major source of annoyance.

At the risk of sounding like an ungrateful git, could someone tell me how to sort this once and for all, rather than "try this" or "try that".

A few weeks ago it was definitely do-able and I don't know what I have done to change things. I have tried changing the toolbar properties to group/not group similar files, but can't seem to get the result I want.

OK - rant over. I'm using XP Pro (2002 SP2) and the Excel version is 2000 (9.0).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have created a custom toolbar with buttons using the .OnAction to call macros that I have written.

For some reason, the .ClearContents command does not work when the macro is called from the custom toolbar button.

It work fines when I call the same macro using "Run Macro" or step through it with the debugger.

WHY DOESN'T IT WORK WHEN CALLED BY THE TOOLBAR?

I've been trying to set up a toolbar button in Excel that when clicked will bring up the Windows Calculator, but I just can't seem to find the way to do it. I know it can be done because I used to have it on my previous installation of Excel (Office Basic 2003 and my current installation is the same version).

Now I know I can just click on the Start Menu while I'm in Excel and then just go to Accessories and Calculator, but this is just a personal preference to have a toolbar button that will do the same thing.

I thought there was a Command Option that would allow me to just type in "calc.exe", but there's not. I tried a hyperlink to "Windows/System 32/calc.exe" and that works for the button (Custom button), but it gives a bunch of warnings before the Windows Calculator comes up. And as I recall, I never got those warnings before (one warns about hyperlinks and the other is similar).

And I looked on all the toolbar choices and I couldn't find any Windows Calculator button. There IS an Excel calculator button(s) to recalculate spreadsheets, but that's NOT what I want - I want the Windows Calculator.

I tried recording a macro and assigning it to the button, but the minute you go out of Excel the macro recorder doesn't record.

I also tried VBA, but I couldn't find any simple code to execute the calc.exe program. I thought maybe there would be a simple "run" statement, but I don't think there is. Actu... Read more

A:Solved: Excel toolbar button for the Windows Calculator

Actually... I'm running Office 2003 Pro and it has the Windows Calculator as a button called "custom". Under Toolbars> Customize> Commands Tab, clicked on Tools in the left window and scrolled about 2/3 of the way down in the right window. I've got two "Custom" buttons listed after "Camera" and before "Select Names"; one with a deck of cards icon and the other with a calulator icon. Drug it up to my tool bar, saved the settings, and the Windows calculator opens from it. Solitare opens with the deck of cards icon

I didn't even know they were there.... cool.

Hi,
I know this is probably an easy question, but I've searched repeatedly on the web and I can't find advice there or in the forums because I'm missing some kind of terminology.

I want to be able to highlight multiple words in Excel and see the home toolbar open every time I open a spreadsheet.
Longer explanation:
I'm using Microsoft Vista 2007 with Excel 2010. I use Excel to make quite a few spread sheets to study for school, and I often have to selectively highlight multiple certain words by hitting ctrl and holding ctrl while highlighting the words. Next I would underline all of the highlighted words. About a month ago it was working fine.
Suddenly out of the blue whenever I try to highlight multiple words by holding ctrl in Excel it won't work. Also, previously when working in excel 2010 the top menu bar would stay on home toolbar with all the option listed, meaning I could keep tinkering with the font uninterrupted. Now after underling just one word at a time the toolbar keeps disappearing with the File tab highlighted green, and I have to keep clicking back to the home tab, then click underline. Have to repeat highlighting each individual word,, clicking home tab, and then underlining. Ugh!
I would love to hear some advice before I tear my hair out in frustration.

Hi all,
Been reading posts for a while now and thought it about time I registered and raised a cracking plee..!

I have a spreadsheet showing columns of amongst other things, start dates and finish dates for many tasks rec’d and completed each day, everyday.

The dates are used to show when they were booked in and when they were finished however I need to show how well we are doing in meeting our targets.

Without using pivot tables or autofilters against the data page I need to formulate in another worksheet:
1) a running total of how many tasks we booked in (and thus started) in a certain period, how many were finished in the same day, how many took 1-2 days, how many took 3-5 days, how many took greater than 5.

With this information I will be able to then say whether I am meeting the targets set... eg 90% within 1 day, 95% within 3 days and 99% within 5 days.

Currently I have to add it all up by hand and now we have over 3000 records and the task is getting crazy. I'm sure excel can do it.

The following formula waas given to me by another colleague...

{=SUM((H6:H65536>=Q10)*(H6:H65536<=R10))}

...This answers the first question, by me entering a start and finish date (in Q10 and R10) and the array returns a value relating to how many tasks were opened. Very clever.

But from there to use the same date range of Q10 and R10 to work out the no. of days each individual task was open for, and then to add all these up in the way needed, is WAY beyond me. I am abs... Read more

"Without using pivot tables or autofilters against the data page"

Why? In all honesty, your best bet is a helper column on the data page, but that might be verboten too.

"how many were finished in the same day"

A big question is: if finish date = start, does "days taken" = zero?

"array ... Very clever."

Indeed. And sometimes, very memory-hungry.

With some start dates in A2:A5 and some finish dates in B2:B5,

=SUMPRODUCT(($A$2:$A$5>=$Q$10)*($B$2:$B$5<=$R$10))

returns number of tasks started on or after Q10 and finished on or before R10.

=SUMPRODUCT(($A$2:$A$5>=$Q$10)*($B$2:$B$5<=$R$10)*($B$2:$B$5-$A$2:$A$5=0))

returns those "within" the dates that took "zero" days (finish = start).

=SUMPRODUCT(($A$2:$A$5>=$Q$10)*($B$2:$B$5<=$R$10)*($B$2:$B$5-$A$2:$A$5=1))

returns those "within" the dates that took "one" day (finish = start + 1).

And so on.

I have just been upgraded to Excel 2007. I find that some of the macros that were recorded in Excel 2003 no longer work in Excel 2007. We use the Analysis Toolpak VBA add-in and I have added this in to 2007 ok, but when running a macro I get a run time 1004 error ATPVBAEN.XLA cannot be found. After some searching it would appear that some of these functions have been renamed in 2007 e.g. it is now a .XLAM file rather than .XLA which is why the macro code can't find it. I guess I could manually edit all the macros and change the fucntion names but there are other colleagues in my team that are still using 2003, so I don't want to break things for them. Is there any solution to this? Thanks

Hi,

I installed a Wireless kit and Livebox that my IE company sent me, but didn't really think very much of it because it caused too many problems with IE and browsing, so I uninstalled it. Trouble occurred and it wouldn't uninstall properly or completely. It left a stupid toolbar on the IE page that can't be properly removed.

Can anyone help me by checking my log? The IE isn't affected (at least I don't think so), but I just wanted to make sure as another modem from the same company did something similar a while back:

New to this OS on my net book. Ar times i have to click on "OK" in the process of downloading a driver or something..Because of the toolbar, it cuts off that section and i cannot click on "OK". I tried to move the toolbar and nothing happens. Then I checked my resolution and the lowest i can make it is what it is set for now 800 x 600...if i go higher than the info gets much smaller for my eyes to read...any hope here to at least move the toolbar? Thanks

A:Solved: Resolution and toolbar problem

If you are taking about the Windows taskbar that normally stretches across the bottom of the screen, it can be moved to any horizontal or vertical edge of the screen.

Here is a link to a page on the MS site that will give you information on how to do it:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Unlock-and-move-the-taskbar

Are you saying that you tried to do what is in the instructions and can not move the bar?

I have the latest version of Firefox (computer runs on Windows XP Home with latest patches and service packs). I'm having problems with my Google toolbar and my booksmarks toolbar. They function just fine. Now, when I right-click, then I can choose which toolbars can be displayed or not. I encounter the following problem. If I don't want Google toolbar to be displayed, the bookmarks toolbar vanish. And if I turn off the bookmarks toolbar, Google vanishes. So obviously, there's a confusion between the toolbar-paths. De-installing Google toolbar and re-installing didn't help. How can I correct this problem?

My girlfrield told me today that in the toolbar(down by the clock) of her HP laptop, it showed about 8 simultaniously indication icons (you know, that little green square) for the Task Manager running at all at the same time.

What in the world could cause that? (besides someone pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del repeatedly...which she says she did not do).

Any thoughts, please?

A:Many simultanious instances of Task Manager running in toolbar, Why?

It happens. Sometimes i have seen it occur when you get the computer confused for example on start up if you get impatient trying to do things while the start up stuff is being loaded.

if it happens all the time then that is another story

I downloaded a program called Paltalk. It put an icon on my quick launch toolbar. I am using WinME. I went into MSCONFIG, deleted the checkmark next to the program on the startup tab, clicked apply, then OK. I then restarted my computer but the icon was still there. I can exit that program from the icon by right clicking it, but it always reappears when I start up. Is there any other way to find out why I can't delete it, or stop it from appearing when I boot up? Thanks.

I have IE7, I had it set up so that everything was on one line, file Edit, view etc, back forward buttons, address bar. Over the weekend I got hit with some kind of redirect thing. That has been fixed, however now my IE is totally different and when I try to set up as I had it, I go to the command bar and right click then click add/remove commands but it will NOT open up that window so I can do that. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Thanks much.

Happy New Year,

I'm using XP with 2 gig memory. I used to have 7 or 8 application shortcuts on the quick launch toolbar. When my computer booted up this morning I noticed no shortcuts were showing up. When I right clicked on the taskbar to select the quick launch toolbar I got a dialog box saying "can't create toolbar". Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Hi There..... It's Aaliyah. Unnecessary toolbar & me seemed to have a relationship. The other time I had this Neo Toolbar problem & Finest Ranger did an incredible job helping me!

I have this irritating toolbar that is giving me a headache. It is blue in colour & stays at the bottom of the screen. I am unable to close it & clicking on it does not show the regular toolbar menu.

I have used the Ad-Aware & Spybot Search & Destroy, but it is still there. I also see this entry DSO Exploit.... have deleted them but everytime I run the Spybot program... it still appears.

Recently, I download this program called No-Adware for a free scan on my pc & it shows that my pc have a parasite called IST Bar/Powerscan & the danger level is severe. I don't know if any of this information helps but pls help me to remove the blue toolbar.
Many thanks in advance!

Uninstall Office the usual way through Add/Remove Programs
Run the Eraser 2000 utility
Uninstall Groupwise
Reinstall Groupwise
Reinstall Office

Hi Guy's Long time no post

I have a buddy that has a problem that is driving us nuts. I figure if anyone can figure this out, you people can.

He's running Win 7 Pro SP1

The problem is: You can see the "quick launch / taskbar" at the bottom of the monitor BUT as soon as you open a website like "YouTube", everything is gone. No start button nothing. The site page opens too much and hides it.

I hope I've explained this so you can understand our problem?

BTW: Those are my old specs. I need to update my profile.

Wish to use Task Scheduler to run the SyncToy backup program daily and found the following instructions on the Web:

Open Task Scheduler and Schedule SyncToy to Run Daily
1) Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Scheduled Tasks to open up Task Scheduler
2) Click on Add Scheduled Task, Click on Next
3) Scroll down and click on the SyncToy option, click on Next
4) Under "Perform this Task" choose Daily and click Next
5) Now choose a start time, I would recommend either a time when you first turn on your computer or late in the evening when you are done for the day. Choose Daily again for when to perform this task and choose the current date then click Next.
6) Here's the tricky part, in order for the task to be scheduled, you'll need to tell the scheduler which user to perform the task for and the username for that profile. Enter the username and password for this profile in this section and click Next.
7) On the next screen check the box for "Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish" and then click Finish
8) When the Advanced Properties box opens, look under the Task tab for the Run line. It should look similar to the one below.
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft\SyncToy\SyncToy.exe"
Make the Run command look like the following to allow SyncToy to run all the folder pairs.
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft\SyncToy\SyncToy.exe" -R
9) Click Ok and close the Scheduled Tasks window.

I'm running Windows XP home edition. When pressing ctl alt dlt to access the task list I only get the bottom portion of the window. All I can see is the bottom half of the 'end process button'. Could this be a virus? I run AVG anti virus daily and update it daily. I also just updated spybot search and destroy and ran it. Still have the problem.

Also, right after startup, I get a program with no name or text showing up on the task for for a few seconds, then it disappears. Not being able to access the task list I can't identify what actually is running.

Any and all help is very much appreciated.

OS - XP Home SP2
When I open Task Manager - either by right-clicking on the Task Bar or via Control Panel - I no longer have the tabbed options to select processes running or performance indicators. All I get is the single info window showing me which programs are running with the options end/switch/new.
I can't think what I might have done to cause this. I suspect that it may be some customisable option that I may have tinkered with and which relates to my user profile. When my wife had her own user profile on this PC I'm pretty sure that all tabbed options were available to her. (I have since deleted her user profile). My account is as Administrator, and is now the only user profile on the PC.

Any help on this would be much appreciated. Bob Jones
