Error 1067 - for various processes - Audio not working

Q: Error 1067 - for various processes - Audio not working

hi. I am not sure what happened to my computer. I was surfing the net, then tried to watch a movie and all of a sudden there was no sound. I tried to listed to a song in iTunes and had an error that there is a problem with my computer's audio/video settings configuration and the playback may not work properly.

when I go to settings/admin tools/services and try to start windows audio - I get the error "Could not start the windows audio service on local computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly". Plug and play is started and seems to work. I get the same error for a few other services, eg, restore backup.
I tried to do a restore backup, but I get that restore backup is not able to protect my computer and I must restart.

also, the start/task bar changed from the XP to the windows classic mode with a larger font.

I have AVG as my anti virus and it was clean (only a few cookies that it removed). Malwarebytes; anti malware does not open for some reason.

chkdsk.exe (in read only mode) came back clean. the only thing it said "Warning! F parameter not specified" at the very top.

also, I used an aircard to connect to the internet and now the program would not connect to the internet. I am using another computer to post this as I am not able to access the internet from the infected computer I cannot copy and paste things.

also, my computer is much slower all of sudden, responds slower.

any suggestions as to what the problem may be and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

Preferred Solution: Error 1067 - for various processes - Audio not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello! This is my first time asking for help; thank you for your time.

I have an Asus N550JV laptop with windows 8. It has been working great the last year, but after a recent windows update, my audio completely stopped working. After running the troubleshooter, it stated the following:

One or more audio service isn't running
Not fixed

Both the Windows Audio and the Windows Audio End Point Builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. Atleast one of these services isn't running.

After doing some research, I was able to view the local services running on my laptop. I found that Windows Audio Endpoint Builder is running, but Windows Audio is not. When trying to start Windows Audio, I got the following messgae:

Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer.
Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

How do I get my audio back? I have Online Lectures I need to watch for school, so any help would be great! Thank you for your time

Do you have a System Restore point that is BEFORE the last update?

Sadly, you may have to do a reinstall or if you have a backup a restore from the backup. My Windows 8.1 was corrupted by the last update (my suspicion). Fortunately I had a recent full backup and restored from the backup.

I have recently installed Windows 7 on my new computer. My sound drivers are all up to date, and the Device Manager knows they are there and working. However, the Volume Adjuster has the speaker with the red and white cross, and when the audio troubleshooter pops up, it does nothing to fix the problem, just acknowledges that there is one...

So, I looked up solutions, and was told to enable the Windows Audio service. I tried, and got a 1067 Error (Unexpectedly terminated). I have started, and successfully run, all of the dependencies, yet Windows Audio still won't run. I ran the 'sfc /scannow' as I was told that might work, but no luck. I also uninstalled and reinstalled my audio driver numerous amounts of times, still no luck. I'm running out of options, so I came here.

Please, any help would be appreciated.

I have a small windows 7 laptop used only by one person for their email. In the last few days, updates stopped working. Currently, the Windows update service is stopped and will not start. It tries, but returns an error 1067.

I have tried a number of KB fixes. The Eventvwr shows error x080080005 regarding the Update Server "Server execution failed." Nothing much else.

SFC /SCANNOW reports no problems at all.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 outlines steps to potentially solve the problem, but has not solved it.

Antivirus from MSE, MalwareBytes and Kaspersky have found no problems, although MSE is now a few days out of date, as I cannot update it due to this problem.

I looked for any recently installed programs that might be badly behaving, but nothing has been installed within the last 30 days. I did choose to uninstall some much older programs of questionable value (odd brand PDF print tools).

The computer had a problem where it thought software was "currently being installed", when in fact none was, but the use of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 seems to allow forcing me to deletions and actually fixed the Programs and Features component to allow uninstalling software just fine. However, the Windows Update from the control panel or from the Action Center still does not work because the update service will not start (as stated at the top of this post).

I am running Windows XP Home SP3 on a Lenovo SL500.
The laptop suddenly stopped connecting to the internet (stuck on acquiring network address). Then suddenly sound stopped working (even though I have the correct drivers installed).
I have tried the following:
1) going to the previous working version - no luck
2) I went to services.msc and found the DHCP client won't start. When I try to force start it, it gives me error 1067. ipconfig gives an error saying "an internal error has occurred. the system cannot find the file specified". I have no idea what file this is. Also, in services.msc when I restart windows audio to get sound back, it starts and then stops again. I also noticed other services like Wireless Zero that should be running are stopped. When I turn them on, they stay on for a short while before stopping automatically.
3) I ran winsockxpfix.exe, sfc.exe /scannow - no luck
4) I did a registry clean - no luck
5) I did a repair install of Windows again and still no luck.
Does anyone have any clue what's wrong and how I can fix this? I don't want to have to format and do a fresh install if possible.
Thank You.

WLAN AutoConfig service gives error 1067 when trying to start it.

What I've tried:

Reset winsock settings
Ran SFC /scannow
Did system restore
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers

I tried all of these in normal mode AND in safe mode. None of it worked.

Then i thought the service dll (C:\Windows\system32\wlansvc.dll) itself might have been damaged/outdated, so I decided to delete it and put a new one from donor pc. NOPE.
It wouldn't give me access to the file. No matter what i tried, safe mode, unlocker tools, auto rename it on startup, doing everything in administrator or even messing with permissions under file properties. It just wouldn't give me access to the file.

Wi-Fi was working smoothly few days ago and i literally have no idea why it stopped working.

I purchased a Netgear Push2TV PTV3000, and updated the firmware, downloaded the latest Intel WiDi, and tried to connect. The search for WiDi adapters found the PTV3000, so I double-clicked to install it. Add a Device ran, but could not find the PTV3000.
Searching the Web I found I needed to insure WiDiApp and Wireless PAN DHCP Server were allowed through the firewall. I found that the WiDiApp was listed in, and allowed through the firewall. I could not find any mention of Wireless PAN DHCP Server in the firewall.
I found the entry in Services, and it was listed as Manual. I set it to Automatic and tried to Start the service. I received an Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.  I am running Windows 8 on a Sony SVS15118FXB.
As a possibly associated issue, since I believe Bluetooth also uses the Wireless PAN DHCP Server, I cannot get Bluetooth to function on the same computer. Attempts to connect Sony Bluetooth speakers also fail.  Maybe the same issue?
Any help would be most appreciated...

Hi, I have an issue with ATA 1.7.

I have deployed ATA in my lab environment (VMware ESXi) but the ATA GATEWAY service keeps on Starting. When I manually tried to restart, it showed an error:

Windows could not start the Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics Gateway service on Local Computer.Error 1067: The Process terminated unexpectedly.

Then, I tried to deployed my lab in my laptop (2 VMs / VMWARE Workstation) and ATA works fine. These same VMs don't work on ESX, the network configuration is good but error 1067 again

Is there some special prerequisites/configuration on ESX ?

Hello people who read this,

Note: I am Dutch and my English is not that good.

I got an error from Windows right after a BSOD that Windows unexpectedly closed. Happened 100+ times on my computer, nothing new, seems unsolvable and I could not find a solution for it.
Windows sent me a message that it found a solution for the BSOD. "There is probably a problem with your RAM.". I runned a scan and it hasn't found anything.
When I opened the solution for the millionth time or something, I discovered a button and clicked it. This was the first time I saw the word "Superfetch".
I thought it was just nothing and went on with whatever I did on my computer.

Lately I was thinking that Superfetch could be the thing that keeps 'BSODing' my computer.
I did some research on Google and have found out that the service is called SysMain and a related folder Prefetch. I also found out how to start Superfetch.

When I started it I got this error where it's all about in this thread (it's in Dutch):

Can not start the Superfetch-service on Local Computer.

Error 1067: The service unexpectedly ended.

I Googled it many times in different ways, but I was not able to find anything about this problem.

So my question is: What does 'Error 1067' mean and how can I solve it?
Do not worry about the BSOD thing, I got an other thread for that .

OS: Windows 7 Home Premiun 64x

About a month and a half ago, I was fiddling with my laptop (an IBM ThinkPad T23 with Windows 2000 Professional) and I deleted the SuperSavage and Utilities, not realizing it was vital for my resolution. I tried reformatting and all that jazz, but no luck. I just got the driver onto a CD-R from my other computer and installed it into my laptop. My laptop resolution is perfect and back to normal. However, the laptop's audio isn't working. I can hear the error sound when I play Freecell (haha) but I can't hear an audio CD. Sounds like you are missing the audio drivers. Go to the makers website and download them. Pretty sure that'll fix you up.

You can get them here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-39415

I bought the Editors Keys Studio Series SL300 Microphone. The Mic is supposed to have all of the required drivers already installed inside of it so that when you plug it into the computer it will be ready to go (it's a USB Mic btw). The problem is when I plug the mic in, it says that the USB Audio Device is not working properly. When I look under the properties for that device it says: Device Status-This device cannot start. (Code 10). I've tried troubleshooting the device and everything but nothing is working. All of the other devices installed in the mic are working properly, just not this one. Since it won't work properly the mic does not even get detected by my laptop, it doesn't show up under detected recording devices.

In case it helps, my computer is an Acer Aspire V3-571

I think I tried everything.
-I did troubleshooting.
-I reset my computer back to factory defaults, so I don't have previously installed drivers conflicting with this one.
-I've reset my computer multiple times and reinstalled the mic multiple times.

If anyone has an ideas it would be great, Thanks!

A:Microphone not working. Audio Device Error.

Hi mattster15,

'Error Code 10' is generated when the 'external device' has no drivers installed on your computer; or the drivers are configured incorrectly. You may want to refer to the following link: Description of Code 10-related errors that Device Manager generates in Windows-based computers

I failed to find related drivers on the manufacturer's website; says that the device is designed to work with Mac/PC: The SL300 Condenser USB Microphone - Both Mac & PC Compatible - Used by thousands of professional recording artists | Editors Keys

You may try the following steps to see if they work for you:
Open 'Device Manager' > Expand 'USB Controllers' > Right click and uninstall all 'USB Root Hubs' listed in the list > Go to 'Action' in 'File Menu' (top-left) > Select 'Scan for hardware changes' > Check if the 'Microphone' installs itself now

If it still does not work and shows a 'yellow mark' besides it, you may want to contact the 'part manufacturer' to check the 'device compatibility' with the 'operating system' installed in your unit.

Good Luck!

A:Realtek ac'97 audio drive not working, error code 10

No sound?

Try the simple things first. Speakers on and working? Plug them into a MP3 player, test that they actually amplify. Speaker plug in the correct socket in the PC? ( I mean not the Mic socket?) Have you looked in 'Device Manager' for a yellow warning by the entry for your sound option? Assume you know all the above, it's most likely still to be the wrong drivers. Go into 'Device Manager' and uninstall any sound drivers. Then go to www.drivereasy.com and download their free program, scan your PC and you will get the right driver I would think. You might also find a few other drivers out of date too. And NO it doesn't cost you to use that program. Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem:

I also tried to install that vinyl_v700b
but every time the installation starts, my conputer tends to restart. That's why I can't install that one.
what's wrong? Can you guys please tell me what to do?
thnx. I cant really watch videos nor play music files.

Thanks again.

A:Realtek AC'97 audio controller not working -- error (code 10)

Apart from the audio driver, it is critical to have the right chipset driver installed. The VIA southbridge needs to work properly to interface with the vinyl audio processor.
So try installing the chipset driver first, and then the audio driver. And of course make sure all MS updates are installed, including the MS UAA driver.

hi, my comp is having some audio problems and I really need help. -windows 7 ultimate 64 bit-

I haven't been able to start up windows properly without a blue screen followed by restart. I can only start in safe mode.

It says one or more audio services aren't working.
it says i have no audio playback device installed. One or more audio service isn't running. Both the Windows Audio and the Windows Audio End Point Builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. Atleast one of these services isn't running.

looking at a previous thread, when I checked services. My windows audio and audio end point are at automatic, however when I check properties>discrepancies, there is not information.

What do I do??

Hey muddly, welcome. So, an Acer Aspire huh?, I always have trouble with these, I don't know why . Acer doesn't like me at all. Did you installed the OS and drivers yourself?, or it came like that from the OEM?

I do not know what happened. It just suddenly stopped working one day and now the sound icon in the toolbar has a red "X" on it. When I click on it it runs a trouble shoot which eventually comes up with "ATI High Definition Audio Device has a driver problem." I have tried to go to Realtek and download the "ATI HDMI Audio Device" and run that but it hasn't worked. I also tried to do the driver only download from the website for Windows 7 but that didn't seem to work either. I eventually received a message that stated "Install Realtek HD Audio Diver Failure !! [Error Code : 0x000000FF]." I looked in Windows Update to see if maybe there was a new update for a driver to fix it but it didn't have anything.
I come to you all because it's what I did last time I had an issue and you all were very good to me. You all are a lot more computer savy than I am so you all are able to think of things to solve issues that I never even think about. I really need you alls help. Also, I have heard that this type of information may be important in trying to solve this to by motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3.
Again, please, any help will be much appreciated. I have tried a lot of things but nothing has worked.
Thanks in advance

my guess would be sound card went bad. replace that bad boy!

HI there,

I'm having terrible problems with my machine. I upgraded the memory thinking it was that causing the problems.

With no real change I'm starting to wonder if the machine is infected and I just can't find it.

Even typing this I'm watching the charaters appear one by one.

The main problems are as per the title.

Can you see anything that I can't?

Is this possible?

I'm running windows XP Pro 64 I have good specs on this machine, an i7 quad, 12 gig of ram and an edirol UA 101 (usb) sound card. But whenever I open and close an app (well most apps) with any other audio devices running (Windows media player or my Daw FL studio for example) I get severe buffer underruns and my whole system stutters very badly until the apps have finnished their startup, during their startup process any audio playing becomes extremly distorted.

I'd like to find a permanent solution to this problem, a few things that have worked so far were, 1 using a pci sound card an e-mu 0404 (That helped) but I no longer have this card, the second solution was to raise my buffer size way up to arround 30 ms or over, obviously this is not a desirable workaround as this card can run quite happily at latancies between 3-6 ms which I need it to do during normal audio processing tasks such as running my Daw.

So, it occured to me that isolating all the audio processes to a single CPU core might stop the distortion/interuption of the audio signal that I'm expieriencing, but from here on I'm a little stumped, I can't find any trace of any processes that are linked to my sound card, or any audio devices at all infact, none of them show up in my task manager.

Isolating the apps themselves didn't work, isolating the sound card seems impossible, am I perhaps barking up the wrong tree here?

Any advice would be most welcome... Read more

Hello,I am running Windows XP SP 3. I always use Chrome as my normal browser but over the last few weeks have noticed multiple iexplore.exe process running in task manager. The iexplore.exe processes are always running under the SYSTEM account. When my audio is on i can hear the IE "click" indicating a window is opened, yet no browser actually opens. I also hear audio clips of commercials, such as Slim Jim commercials and other random ads. I also receive Internet Explorer error windows asking me to either Continue or Cancel.I ran the recommended Anti-Malware software and that seem to just masque the problem. While the iexplore.exe processes are no longer visible in task manager, they are running as hidden processes, with all the same symptoms as mentioned above. If i try to actually open the IE Browser, the computer thinks for a bit, but never actually opens the window. The DDS Log contents are pasted below and i'm attaching the DDS Attach and GMER (Ark.txt) Logs. Hi all,

I've been hunting around, but, basically, I don't know exactly what to even search for. Here's my setup: I have my PC hooked up to a standard monitor and computer speakers. I also have a digital audio out running to my receiver and a VGA hooked up to my LCD TV. Whenever I want to throw on a video for the kids, I have to go into sound properties, set digital out as my default audio, hit "OK" then go over to "Screen Resolution" after right-clicking on the desktop, setting the "Multiple Displays" to "Extend these Displays" hit OK then OK.

It may not sound like a ton of work each time, but I do it really often and I'd really like to automate it to one or two clicks. I was looking at ways to do it w/ VB Express, but couldn't figure out how to control video/audio settings. Any suggestions?

A:Would like to automate some processes - change audio output/display

what you need is to download and install autohotkey and use the scripts below

Windows 7 Tip: How to change the default audio device with a hotkey

you can click on the source of the article to get more information

this will deal with the audio part

then use this script that i wrote to deal with switching the video

place the scripts in your startup folder if you want them to launch at startup.

i have a similar setup so hopefully this will solve your problem.

thanks for the impunt~!~!~

A:OC E6600, Asus P5B, Patriot ddr2-1067

the core2's o/c great, but i doubt your memory will be able to keep up. increase the FSB clock in small increments, verifying that the system is fully functional after each increase. before long, you will get to a point where the system crashes upon boot or will not POST. you may need to reset the BIOS, so make sure you know how to do that and that you write down your settings. once this happens, revert to the last clock speed that worked. run memtest to ensure that the system is really functioning properly.

in addition to increasing the clocks speeds, voltages can be increased to allow for higher speeds. increasing voltages will cause a lot of extra heat to be produced, and a dramatic increase can damage/destroy parts. i wouldn't mess with the voltage until the system has stayed running for a few days with a maxed-out FSB. leaving the voltages alone is a good idea for novice overclockers.

overclocking can irreparably damage and/or destroy your hardware if done wrong, so it's important to be patient. remember that you are going to need to keep close tabs on your CPU and northbridge temps during the entire process. if you see temps that exceed the mobo's specs, back off. even if the system seems to be running fine, heat will, in time, kill it.

it would not hurt to consult some online literature on overclocking and to familiarize yourself with your mobo's manual and BIOS.

I have a HP Compaq Presario with Vista 32bit OS. This problem has been going on for a few days now. When I boot up my notebook, the sidebar doesn't appear, the network icon in the taskbar has a red X on it (but I'm still connected to a network), and the task manager won't appear after pressing ctrl-shift-esc or right clicking on the taskbar. When I try to bring up the task manager, all I get is a green grid icon in the taskbar which cannot be accessed. If I try to initiate task manager multiple times, I get multiple green grids in the taskbar. The missing sidebar is kind of grayed out with inaccessible menu buttons at the top, and when the cursor is placed in that area I get the "thinking" cursor. I also cannot download windows updates nor adobe acrobat updates, as it just shows the download bar at 0%. I tried to pull up the Back and System Restore folder, and it never comes up...all it shows is the blank window for it. Am I hijacked?

I ran Avira virus scan, to no good. If anyone can help, I would glad to give you more info and I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks.

Hello all.

Yesterday evening I received several alerts telling me that various processes had stopped working and had shut down. Fearing malware I disabled my internet connection and ran a virus/spyware scan. None turned up anything notable. Spyware removed a few items as usual, but soon after this my laptop became unresponsive, and I had no choice but to force a shut down.

I restarted in safe mode and attempted a system restore, which seemed successful until I logged in and it told me it couldn't be completed. I tried again, but the next time I tried to log in the login screen froze completely - IE, when I entered one letter of my password it was deleted the next second, the same happening when I attempted to shut down from the screen; it simply flashed black and returned to how it was. Today I managed to log on and continued to receive messages about processes being shut down but I managed to download HJT and get a log.

This certainly seems longer than most of the rest on this forum, I don't know what that means. Certainly some of the entries seem like things I haven't used in a very long time.

This is my first post, so I apologise if I miss anything out or misquote anything. I've read all your 5 steps, and completed most of them, however I don't think I have a spyware problem so have not yet run tools such as HiJack. If you think I do, let me know and I'll run the reports.

I have this problem with IE7. The reason its posted here is because I don't know if IE is causing the issue...

If I open multiple tabs, or windows in IE, or if I'm online browsing web pages for over 10 minutes, I suddenly get where new pages won't load up. The green bar at the bottom continue's too move across at a really slow pace but nothing happens and the pages stay blank. If I close IE and reopen, the problem is still there. If I close IE, I find in task manager that the process is still running, often at around 115000k. If I click end task, nothing happens.

After i've run into this issue, i notice similar problems with other programs. For instance, WMP. If I close it, the process still runs and it cant be end tasked. Note that the process does not appear under programs in task manager, just processes.

It appears that when I have a process open, such as IE or WMP, there are 2 running in task manager. If i close WMP manually (After the issue with the internet), only one of these processes dies. The other just stays there, and can't be end tasked.

Ive tried swapping to Firefox and Opera, but both run into the same issue. Strangely, while I can no longer view web pages usi... Read more

I have a self-assembled desktop PC - full specs in the signature below, but in short, it has an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor on a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P mainboard, which uses a Realtek Azalia ALC887 on-board sound system. I have no loudspeakers and listen to the computer sound exclusively through a Microsoft LX-1000 headset. I also have a Logitech C270 HD webcam that has its own microphone. My PC has 16 GB RAM, a SSD and a large HDD. It runs Windows 8.1 Update 1 with all Windows updates (Patch Tuesday was this week, but my problems had started before that and I'm sure they're unrelated).

Everything is working fine, except the audio, which started behaving strangely a few days ago. The problems started suddenly and I can't think of anything that could have caused them. There were no hardware changes or any intervention in the hardware, nor did I install any new software that could have messed up things.

When playing music, it sounds muffled, with the volume very low and the voice and several instruments muted, while other instruments in the background arrangement sound louder. No graphic equalizer is on, and this happens with any player software (Windows Media Player, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc.), and any source (MP3 music, audio CDs, DVDs, videos, etc.). There appears to be no hardware problem with either my headset or the onboard audio: when I run both Windows' native and Realtek's driver sound output tests, the test tune comes out loud and clear in the tested chann... A:Realtek audio, Gigabyte mobo: strange-sounding audio, mic not working

First thing to do is disable or disconnect the Web Cam. They have been known to cause various sound problems. It may not be the problem, but eliminate it as the problem.

Stereo Mix needs to be set as the Default Recording Device.

Refresh the RealTek by going to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry in the Sound section then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will reinstall the sound. This usually fixes any Windows/Sound corruptions. If this does not fix it, download and reinstall the RealTek sound drivers.
