How do I change the password box background colour on Windows 7 login?

Q: How do I change the password box background colour on Windows 7 login?

Hi Everyone,

My son was playing with my PC today and since then, the password box on the Windows 7 login has a black background instead of the traditional white. In addition, the Toshiba Wireless LAN detector also has a black background. I have looked at the Ease of Use settings and nothing seems to be altered. He's only 2 so I have no idea how he was able to do this. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

Preferred Solution: How do I change the password box background colour on Windows 7 login?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After downloading and installing NVIDIA driver 280.26, my desktop background changed to a solid black. Now I cannot change it to anything other than a solid colour. If I try, it'll just change back.

I did a System Restore to before the driver was installed leading me to think that it wasn't actually the new driver. I'm currently running the sfc/scannow command to see if it fixes anything but in the meantime, has anyone got any ideas?

You may have to run your WEI again after updating your graphics driver. It sounds lame but I've seen it fix graphics related problems like Aero not working etc, after updating drivers.

It's in the aero.msstyle in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero & you can use Ave's Windows7 Style Builder or Restorator - Bome Software - Restorator - the resource editor for customization, localization, and translation. to change it.
If you are using the default aero theme I have WSB & can change that for you.
If you are using a custom theme you will need to ask the theme maker. It's not cool to change someone else work.

I've managed to figure out how to do it - despite staying clear of Metro through using a third party normal start menu.
When I press the correct item in metro to customise the colour, absolutely nothing happens.
Any idea what could be wrong?

I know I can hack this colour straight in the registry but I prefer not to.
I want to trigger the GUI based colour selector

A:Can't change the Metro (win 8 start) background colour

You have to use one of the third party utilities to do it. Brink has the info here. Start Screen - Change Background Color and Image Save it as a favorite. Windows 10 it is a little harder to do the Lock screen, since Microsoft made it that you have to go about a whole different way with that version.

Hi jamtart98,

I would suspect that the software you installed did something to the Graphic Drivers. Do you mind booting into Safemode(Press F8 during startup > Safemode with networking). If the problem is gone in safemoode, Reboot the machine into normal mode and:

1. Uninstall your current graphical drivers.
2. Download the latest ones from nVidia's website.

Any ideas on how to tweak the colour of the menu background of W7 applications?

To be specific - as I'm not sure of the correct name - I'm talking about the pale blue colour which appears behind "File Edit View History " on Firefox (and other programs), below the title header. It is used as the unselected tab background too.

I don't like it!

I want this colour to appear uniformly grey, as in XP, and without the light slim horizontal embellishment cutting through the words.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure I'm overlooking something really simple, but how do you change the Sign-in/Login Screen picture in Windows 10 Anniversary Update?

This is the sign-in page I get when I boot the PC (it automatically signs in, as I use Bitlocker password instead):

These are the settings I have set in Settings > Personalisation > Lockscreen. I have the Lock Screen set to 'Picture', and 'Show lock screen background picture on sign-in screen' set to 'On', but Windows still uses it's own photo (the beach pic).

Is there another setting I'm overlooking?

I upgraded my PC from 8.1 and I had a black background for the login screen before and after I had upgraded it had grandfathered that background color.
Now that I did an in-place upgrade (to fix some bad windows files), it seems it has taken on the default blue since I have accidentally changed themes. I can't seem to find my old theme from 8.1, or change the background color without changing the accent color.
In 8.1 I was able to set a whole wack of colors to different things, including the login screen independently from the accent color but now it seems impossible
So, how do I change the color on the login screen?

Actually, it's not the application background colour - but I'm struggling to know what it is. I've attached two screen snaps. 001 shows an image (the block of colours) as seen in Corel Photopaint. 002 shows how it looks in "Full-screen Preview" from that application. It's the second image I'm concerned with. I would like the space beyond the image when seen in "Full-screen Preview" to be #000000 (black) not #F0F0F0, as you see it. This may be specified by the application (Photopaint) but nothing seems to control it there. Is it a Windows thing? Can it be changed?

Greetings,

First of all, I'm a complete noob at customizing, so please bear with me.

I've been searching for a way to change the Windows Explorer navigation (folder) pane background colour, the panel that (by default) can be found on the left and shows things like Favourites, Libraries etc. The default colour is white, and lately it has started to hurt my eyes more and faster than it did before. That's why I would like to change it to grey.
I've 'already' managed to do this for the reading pane by editing the shellstyle.dll file (C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero\Shell\NormalColor), but I cannot find any information on how to do this for the navigation pane. That is, I found some topics but most of the time the answers point towards downloading/buying a program that can do it, or needing to send some files to a helpful person who can change it him/herself, and by doing so probably avoid a lot of explaining, which of course I can understand. However, I would like to do this myself so that in the future I'll no longer have to rely on someone else to change that colour. Furthermore, I'm not interested in any other scheme than the standard Aero (yet...) so I would like to do this without downloading/buying any program (which I'll most likely never use again after I changed that one colour - but you never know, of course).

So, where can I find the code for the background colour? Can it be found in the shellstyle.dll file as well? Do I need to look somewhere else? It doesn... Read more

On our domain when we check the "User must change their password at next login" box on their user account they don't get prompted to change it the first time they log in after that (even after waiting awhile). Instead they log in one more time with their OLD password (and if they try and access Outlook they get the UserID/Password/Domain prompt). They then have to log off and relog back on a second time before it prompts for a password.

Any ideas why this can be happening this is on 3 types of clients so I am thinking its domain related but I don't even know where to begine.

All users are able to access all domain resources fine have the correct IP and DNS information for the AD server

Oh yeah a few more wierd things. The second I tick and apply the "User must change their password at next login" our exchange server asks them for a username password and domain as thoguh exchange has already wanted to force a password change.

Woohoo yet another symptom any Domain user ID that has not been changing the passwordi n the past is having theis problem but a newly created domain user does not have this issue at all.

1 Notebook with wi-fi receptor

Question: Why a need to change my default login and password in wireless router IF:

1 - The connection is encrypted with WPA2-PSK and AES with a very strong password (25 characters including letters, numbers and symbols);
2 - The SSID broadcast is disabled;
3 - The router have a MAC filter for only the my home computers;
4 - I allocated the number exactly of IP numbers to my home computers;
5 - The router Firewall is enabled and all computer of my home network have a good Internet Security (Firewall + Antivirus + Antispyware + Antispam + Antiphishing etc).

Can somebody invade my home network with this settings?

Is stricly necessary the change of my router default login and password?

Welcome to the Seven Forums
I am not and expert on security but at least anybody on your network could get to the router settings and change them and there could be a possibility of someone outside your network getting to your router settings I'm not sure.
But setting up your own user name and password and is just good security.
